Good mor ning every one 51 now and supposed to get to 73 for a high. Just checked daughter 's area, 38 there. Cold early there this year.

LLOYD  my son planted  turnips this year and I expect  to get a few of them when he digs  them up.

CALLIE  my daught er has one of those cast iron cornbread pans. Have no  idea if she puts in sugar or not. My Mom never measured anything when she baked, a handful or a pinch, Regina does that with some things she makes often. She is named after my Mom and does some things like her, too. She was only 7 months old when my Mom passed away so she never knew her.

AMY  just enought bread added  to the chestnuts to help hold it  together with some melted butter. Those chestnuts were cooked before peeling, only way to get then peeled was when they were hot so no crunch to them.

JANE  just read Amy's post, so sorry you need more surgery. Prayers will continue for you.

JENNY  nothing would make me happier to have my dughter and her family move here but I know that will never happen.

SHIRLEY  hope t hat  bad wea ther never made it  to your area last night.

JACKIE  good morning.

Have a good day and be healthy and happy with God's love.

A little story about "cornbread".  My mom could do awesome cornbread. She was one of those "throw a handful of this, and two pinches of that into a bowl" and come out with perfection.  Anyway, I don't know if she ever put sugar in her cornbread.  I know when I made it (without Jiffy to help) I put a little bit of sugar in.  Now to the little story.  Mom and I had this wonderful, black friend who would come and stay with us on the weekend.  She was NOT a maid, housekeeper, baby sitter.  She was a real friend.  She would make what she called "hot water cornbread".  I think it would probably be classified as "corn pone".  White cornmeal, hot water, and have no idea what else; then fry it up in a skillet.  It was never greasy, but I loved that stuff so much, and couldn't wait for her next visit.  I never tried to make it, just let the memories live on.  (however, if anyone here knows how to do this, I'd be willing to give it a try!)

Good night and sweet dreams to Everyfriend!  It was a cloudy day here today but it wasn't cold or wet.  I'll take it!

Frankie worked late tonight and she's off tomorrow.  She's coming over anyway so Cooper is spending the night here and she's getting some much needed rest.  I'm off to the haystack.  I wish you all a peaceful night's sleep and a happy tomorrow.  And may God bless us, every one!

Good morning..

We were off and running yesterday, bundled all the items we had to go to Sally Anns and took off. Great day for driving as it was overcast with a call of rain on the way.
The list we had was long but one by one we knocked each off the list! Our stop at SA didn't pan out.again. They are now closing their doors for good so off to another place that did take it all.
We were two pooped puppies and yes we had those also in the van with us .

Jane, have fun with Cooper today..

Gloria, if time permits applesauce will be made with some of the macs.

Jenny, boy, that sure makes your heart smile to have family live close by. Now a wee baby to hug along with the rest!!

Shirley, you are right, family doesn't have to punish, the man above will have the last say.

Bubble, thank you for the recipes....both look interesting.

A lot didn't get done yesterday in the home so today is it......better get started.

Enjoy your day and stay safe.

Good Morning Everyfriend!  It's extremely foggy this morning and not supposed to leave us until mid morning.  I'm glad Frankie doesn't have to go to work today.  That road she drives can be bad on a foggy day!

Actually, AMY, I'm not spending the day with Cooper.  Later this morning, Frankie will be picking him up to go to the groomer and then she and I will hit WM.  Right now, he's still snoozing in bed.  I'm going to have to go shake him loose pretty soon.  It's way past his breakfast time.

I hope you all have a good day today...better than yesterday but not as good as tomorrow!

Good morning everyone, not quite 7 yet and already in low 60's. Crazy temperature  this fall.
When I was talking to my daughter yesterday she was dressed in layers, Tshirt and sweatshirt, my SIL had his flannel shirt and jeans on.

TOMEREADER  I don't remember my Mom ever making cornbread. Only time I made it was back when the box of Jiffy was only .10cents. One DIL got a recipe for cornbread  that called for a can of corn and she made it. Was so bad she threw it out for the birds and other critters who eat anything.

BUBBLE  if I could still bake I would  try one of those corn bread recipes. Sadly none of the CNAs I have had can bake or are cooks, even Yvette "bakes" cookies for her grandsons, the kind sold in a roll, refridgerated and sliced and baked. When she tells me she baked cookies I ask =from scratch?= and she says yes. I just look at her and she laughs.

JANE  I pray you are no t worrying too much, really does no good to worry, as June used to say leave  it in God's hands.

AMY  I have no idea how  the SA stores are doing here, been a few years since I have been near any of them.

Have a good day and stay healthy and happy.

Those recipes are for what we called Corn Cakes, Bubble.  I suppose you could just pour in the whole bowl of batter, Tomereader, though I've never tried that.  Just watch it that it doesn't brown too much before you flip it and brown the top.  It's good but it's not corn bread, IMO.  Corn bread needs to have buttermilk, preferably, or milk will do instead of hot water, and with or without sugar.  We all grow up calling the same things by different names.  In the Northeast these corn cakes are called Hoe Cakes.

Take care, All.

This was sent to me and yes it is a long read but a good one. Grab a kleenex!

In Phoenix, Arizona, a 26-year-old mother stared down
at her 6 year old son, who was dying of terminal leukemia.
Although her heart was filled with sadness,
she also had a strong feeling of determination.
Like any parent, she wanted her son to grow up &
fulfill all his dreams.

Now that was no longer possible...
The leukemia would see to that.

But she still wanted her son's dream

to come true.

She took her son' s hand and asked,
'Billy, did you ever think about what you wanted to be once you grew up?

Did you ever dream and wish what you would do with your life?'

Mommy, 'I always wanted to be a fireman when I grew up.'

Mom smiled back and said,

 'Let's see if we can
make your wish come true.'

Later that day she went to her local fire

department in Phoenix, Arizona, where she met
Fireman Bob, who had a heart as big as Phoenix.

She explained her son's final wish and
asked if it might be possible
to give her 6 year-old son a ride around the block on a fire engine.
Fireman Bob said,

'Look, we can do better than that.

If you'll have your son ready at
seven o'clock Wednesday morning, we'll make

him an Honorary Fireman for the whole day.

He can come down to the fire station, eat with us,
go out on all the fire calls, the whole nine yards!

And if you'll give us his sizes, we'll get a real fire uniform
for him, with a real fire hat - not a toy -- one with the emblem of the Phoenix Fire Department on it, a yellow slicker like we wear and rubber boots.  They're all manufactured right here in Phoenix,
so we can get them fast.'

Three days later Fireman Bob picked up Billy,
dressed him in his uniform and escorted him from his hospital bed to the waiting hook and ladder truck.
Billy got to sit on the back of the truck
and help steer it back to the fire station.
He was in heaven.
There were three fire calls in Phoenix that day
and Billy got to go out on all three calls.
He rode in the different fire engines,
the Paramedics' van,
and even the fire chief's car.
He was also videotaped for the
local news program.
Having his dream come true,
with all the love and attention that was lavished upon him, so deeply touched Billy that he lived three months longer than any doctor thought possible.
One night all of his vital signs began to
drop dramatically and the head nurse, who believed
in the hospice concept - that no one should die alone, began to call the family members to the hospital.
Then she remembered the day Billy had spent
as a Fireman, so she called the Fire Chief and
asked if it would be possible to send a fireman
in uniform to the hospital to be with Billy as he made his transition.
The chief replied, 'We can do better than that.
We'll be there in five minutes. Will you please do me a favor?
When you hear the sirens screaming and see the
lights flashing, will you announce over the
PA system that there is not a fire?
It's the department coming to see one of its finest members one more time. And will you open the window to his room?'

About five minutes later a
hook and ladder truck arrived at the hospital and extended its ladder up to Billy's third floor open window --
16 firefighters climbed up the ladder into Billy's room.
With his mother's permission, they hugged him and held him and told him how much they LOVED him.

With his dying breath,
Billy looked up at the fire chief and said,
'Chief, am I really a fireman now?'

'Billy, you are, and The Head Chief,
Jesus, is holding your hand,' the chief said.
With those words, Billy smiled and said,
'I know, He's
been holding my hand all day and
the angels have been Singing...'
He closed his eyes one last time.

Oh, my, Amy, the tears are blinding me. Now isn't that what we should ALL be about?  Hope you don't mind if I copy & send to some special people in my life. Thank you. Hopefully anyone reading this (true or not) will be inspired to touch someone. I even have a couple firemen I'd like to send to.

Bubble!  Thank you so very much for the recipes for hot water cornbread!  The first recipe had the great picture showing a closeup of how the fingers patted them out. My friend would do that, even let me try it, patting out the pieces with love! Thank you again!  Have to check now and see that my cornmeal is still fresh!

Shirley, please do send it on. I lost my cousin to leukemia...she had just turned 8 yrs old.

We had a good day so to speak ending it with a little excitement that we could do without. Kyle wanted to remove a log cabin and shorten the board that it was sitting on. All went well , I had just moved everything to the other side of the shop when I heard a commotion.........he fell.  Missed the last step on the ladder and down he went! After checking him out to make sure nothing was broke  I helped him up. When he fell he popped both hearing aids out when he hit his head.  Didn't dampen his humor and he said the floor broke his fall........ MEN!!!! Gosh !!

Patricia,, where are you? How is the renovations coming along?

Oh, what a scare, Amy, but bet he will be a little sore & stiff tomorrow. Does he take any blood thinners?  Got to watch any fall/internal bleeding if so. Tell him bubble wrap will be the NEW fashion if he isn't more careful~~

I went to Walmart to get their cheapest cans of salmon for the cats, out but some due in tomorrow, so went on to the dealership to get the first oil change for the Encore.... it has 2 recalls & one is a 2 hour update to the radio so they asked if I wanted to come back in the morning & they will bring me home (in my car, of course) & pick me up in 3 hours (2 for update & hour for oil change & free car wash)... better idea so anything I did today I get to do over tomorrow. After they pick me up I will head back to Walmart & sit there until they unload that salmon! These cats are living pretty high on the hog with the raising prices!!!

Better get something to eat before bed time, no sleeping in or going back to bed in the morning. The cats need a lot of time to get organized & have breakfast & even tho I have clothes ready to jump in, takes some doing to move very fast. :-[   Hey, maybe a nap while I wait for them to fix the car.... plenty of jobs waiting to be done.  ::)

Sweet dreams & God Bless, wishing everyone a restful, peaceful night.

Boy, I'm tired tonight!  Frankie and I did a WM run and I'm all stocked up for company.  Cindy is probably in West Chester, Pa right now.  She was getting ready to board her flight around noon today.  Her daughter lives in West Chester and is going to college there.  Her plan was to spend the night with Courtney and come up here tomorrow.  I haven't seen her since the pandemic shut us down last year!  I'm ready for a visit!

She's been working from home for the past three years and she's bringing everything she needs with her and staying until after my surgery and will work from here.

Frankie and I did a WM run this afternoon and I think I got everything she needs to be comfortable here.

AMY, I loved the little Fireman story.  And, like Shirley, I had tears in my eyes.

I copied the cornbread recipe, too, BUBBLE.  Don't know if I'll have time to try it but it actually sounded good to me.  And I've never been a fan of cornbread.

I'm off to the haystack a bit early tonight.  I think I wore myself out tonight.  I wish you all a peaceful night's sleep and a happy tomorrow.  And may God bless us, every one!

Good evening, EVERYFRIEND  ‼️

I went to the pool this afternoon...it was FABULOUS....rode the recumbent bike.  Then in the pool for an hour then hot tub.....more of a work out than any physical therapy I've had. I probably will be good and sore tomorrow, but feel quite good right now‼️. Did not swim per se, rather just moved my arms and legs....was able to stretch my sore leg real good.....big marching steps!  It was so great! I am feeling really good about it😘

GLORIA, oh I know how happy you would be if Regina and her hubby would move to RI.  Now we have both the left and right coast covered with 2 sons, and 2 sons here in Colorado.  Feeling pretty blessed🙏

JACKIE, I hope you enjoyed the afternoon fun session about things we grew up with!  What did you end up taking?  Sounds fun.

Good night and pleasant dreams to EVERYFRIEND.  Good morning to you, JACKIE, when you come in.
