  ,  JaneS!

Dil and I had a wonderful time together yesterday. It had been months since we'd had a "Just the two of us" day. Soup/sandwiches/cookies here for lunch and then she took me to a "maintenance" medical appointment.

Asking prayers and healing thoughts for my other DIL.  She's 51 and has had four back surgeries and both hips replaced. She's developed terrible pain around the last replacement and, after multiple CTs/MRIs/etc. last week, the diagnosis is that the "stem" on that replacement is loose. (I didn't understand Google explanation of "stem") .
Orthopedist says the stem can be replaced but recovery time is 4 weeks to 6 months, depending on how hard it is to get the old one out.
Son is still recovering from double fusion back surgery last summer and you can imagine how badly this news is affecting them. (They have no children).

On a happier note - I was able to renew my car tag and my driver's license at the same time this morning.
Process for license with Real ID sounded complicated but was easy-peasy to do on-line last week.
I also expected a long wait at the tag agency but was the only one there.  Guy who runs it is usually frowning and grumpy but, today, he was smiling and very chatty.
Unexpectedly pleasant experience - and ALL DONE!!!!!

Lunch time and then laundry time.

Hope Everyfriend is having an Enjoyable Day.

Amy

Good morning.

Going  to be overcast day 25° out there now. Counter top is in so picking that up this morning..

Going to finish up cleaning that cupboard/pantry. Got sidelined yesterday and need to get it done. I did make chicken soup so lunch is taken care of  for the rest of the week!! :2funny: Can't just make a small pot of soup.

Callie, prayers for your DIL and hope her recovery time is short. Nothing like doing things together in that family. How is your son progressing on his surgery?

Gloria, lets hope they will send somebody that knows how to work! I don't understand how workers can go to a place and not work yet hold their hands out for the paycheck. Times sure have changed and not for the better.

Phyllis, so good to see you here. Take your time and don't rush it...easy does it as the saying goes.

Lloyd, hope you got a good night sleep...

Shirley, are you busy preparing for Thanksgiving dinner?

Patricia, I think our "warm" weather has past for now. From here on in and will have colder temps and they are calling for snow on Mon.

Better get ready..

Enjoy your day and stay safe.

Good morning AMY and everyone else that follows. it is 49º and sunny here now. I rested pretty good. I have already hooked up to the machine and sent my vitals to V A. I have to do that first thing every Morning. quite of a machine, it takes my blood sugar reading I get, per% of oxygen level and heart rate.it talks to me through doing each  them all them and tells me to have a good and then send the report to VA on line.

Lloyd

Amy

 There is a strong possibility that if all goes well Jane will be home on Mon.
Please keep the prayers coming as they ARE working!!!

Gloria

Good morning everyone, every thing is covered in frost again outside and it is 27 now at 8:05, makes me wonder jus t how cold it got overnight. The sun is shining so it should warm up.

AMY  just this place has so many lamps around the parking lot it is impossible to see any stars but even wi th that a car was stolen from almost under a light  a few years ago.

LLOYD  I slept much better last night, over 8 hours and feel better today. I just cannot  sleep at  night when I know I have someone coming so early in the morning.

PHYLLIS  cold here,  too, this morning and I pushed the thermostat up to get warm. At times in the winter I wonder if it feels warmer when the snow covers everything.

AMY  you mean Jane was peeking in here? Must mean she is starting to feel better.

JANE  if you peek in again know that you are missed big time and many prayers are said for you.

CALLIE  of all the orthopedic doctors I have seen only one  talked about surgery before he even saw my back and he was kind of pushing the surgery. Arthritis just cannot be taken out of the back and I have seen enough of them as it is. One  told me  that no guarantee with it and might end up spending the rest of my life in a wheelchair. I pray your son and DIL have some relief soon from what they are going through.

AMY  one thing tha t really gets me is people who come t o this count ry and don't bot her to learn the language and then ecpect us  to unders tand them. Seems mos t of these workers lately have been foreigners. I feel like telling the one in charge to send Americans only or those who can speak English. Yipee looking forwa rd to Monday and Jane going home.

Have a good day and stay safe.

Good morning!  So good to know Jane felt like peeking in. :)  Soon all of us will be back chatting again.

It is taking me forever to get things back to normal here at home but getting there slowly.  One foot in front of the other.

Take care, All.

Sorry I forgot to make font larger.

CallieOK

Good Morning,

Fingers crossed that Janie will be home soon.

Phyllis,  it's great to see you!  You're not slow; you're just doing things "leisurely".

Amy,  son is slowly getting back to "normal". Still not comfortable sitting for very long but has set his watch to remind him to get up and stretch during working hours. He's currently having p.t. to stretch scar tissue that had formed around the abdominal incision and was affecting his sciatic nerve.
Thanks for asking.
They are having her Dad/brother and family at their house for Thanksgiving.  Son usually does the turkey in his fancy smoker.

Have learned that Miss Ellen and a few others are having a "Friendsgiving" dinner. She and a friend who is also a celiac (very gluten intolerant) are doing the cooking.  Others will bring their choice of drinks and help pay for the food.  She will be home for a week over Christmas.

I have "politely declined" joining either "in-law" family.  We all get along but my hearing issue makes group conversation confusing and mobility issues make moving around in a crowded room difficult.

The only holiday I insist on having with my family is Christmas.  However, many years ago, I opted for Christmas Supper at my house because one family celebrated on Christmas Eve and the other on Christmas morning.  It's become a tradition for everyone to come here late afternoon for either "hearty" snacks or something easy from the slow cooker. Then we have a rousing (as in "the neighbors may wonder... ;D ) game of the domino game Mexican Train.  DIL and I have decided on "hearty" snacks this year.

Nothing on the agenda for today except OU and OKState football.

Wishing you a Satisfying Saturday, Soda Shoppers.

Good late morning from a chill Interior at minus 26 degrees and both a wind chill and a stage 2 air quality alert. Ironically, we have perfect air quality  99.8 % in the summer, barring forest fire smoke and so many winter issues.

Gloria, I also have anxieties keeping me from sleeping before appointments.

Amy, I had chicken soup last night, but I have enough left to feed an army or at least this floor!  It is lovely to hear about Jane and Monday!

Callie, so sorry to read about your son and DIL's medical issues. A good friend of mine is going in for similar surgery in December. Unfortunately, her family lives too far away. Another friend is planning to keep them informed for Thelma.

I hate going to the DMV for a state ID! If I had to get a driver's license, tags, or whatever, I'd take a sleeping bag!

My hearing is also not that good anymore. It is one reason I took early retirement.

I've never played a game of dominoes. However, my group can get rabid during a game of 7 card stud. That is if we can keep the guys out of the bank...it's filled with oreos!

Amy, we're diametrically opposite per our winter temperatures!

Phyllis, you heard, I'm sure that old saw about "Slow and steady wins the race?"

A good Saturday HELLO to EVERYFRIEND‼️

I continue to have so much pain in my so called GOOD SHOULDER that typing is very uncomfortable.  I can read your great post but have trouble using my arm to type. My therapy is going great.  I had therapy on Tuesday and Thursday, then worked out at the pool Wednesday. My therapist asked me to take a few days off and let my shoulders rest a bit as I have been doing way too much ‼️  She is very happy with my progress.

So pleased to hear the continued progress JANE! Thank you AMY for all the updates.

PHYLLIS, so good to see your posts and to read you are getting stronger every day🥰.

SHIRLEY, thank you for the sweet comments on Bob and Jonah's picture. I plan to do exactly what you said😘

PATRICIA, the mountains are getting a bit of snow, but not enough! A couple of ski areas hoped to open by TGivng, but have been forced to delay.  A good friend just moved to Montrose, so I have been watching the temps there regularly and they have been very close to ours here in Denver.

GLORIA....not very encouraging news regarding YVETTE possibly healing sooner so she could be back sooner😩

CALLIE, sorry to read the news about your DIL and the hip socket.  I returned to my surgeon to see if that might be the problem with my hip pain, but he says no, it is soft tissue pain!  Prayers for both your son and DIL.

Got to go...this ha# taken me forever to type.

Have a good rest of your Saturday.

Jenny,  I finally asked Google the right question and found out what a "stem" is in hip replacement surgery.

What is hip replacement stem?

During the procedure, surgeons insert a stem into the patient's femur, or thighbone, for stability.

That's why she's having such pain down her leg .

Off to get a meat loaf in the oven for dinner.

Good Night and sweet dreams everyone. I am going to put this to bed early so i can do the same.

well I could not go to sleep, so got up and came In here and by accident I learned something new. I use a mouse to work this laptop computer. I was using the wheel to move around up and down, I accidently pushed down on the wheel hard, and it put  it in gear so you can put it in the bodiey of your printed aria and it will go up or down fast or slow enough to read at your likening. it is a wireless mouse.

Lloyd

Amy

Good morning...

Warmer this morning temp is 31°. A day of rest here today..just coast for the day.

I always check my mail to see if any news about Jane, no news yet and will post as soon as I hear any.

Callie, meat loaf to me is comfort food. Good hot or cold in a sandwich with hot mustard.

Jenny, hope your shoulder stops hurting soon!! Constant pain is not good.

Patricia, I made biscuits to go with the soup yesterday. May end up freezing some soup...we shall see. Have a new bread I want to try...will find the recipe and post it.

Gloria, we have lost most of our snow but never fear it will be back on Mon so they say!! We used to have camp fire at night, roast hot dogs and  roast marshmallows. When the fire had died down to just coals.....lay back on a blanket and look at the maze of stars. We would try to pick out different constellations.

Lloyd, who says you can teach an ol person (young at heart) new tricks? Good for you on learning this.

Enjoy your day and stay safe.

Gloria

Good morning everyone, no frost this morning but feels damp and what  I just  saw on t he TV will be cloudy most of the day and tomorrow rain. Cloudy for Thanksgiving, too.

PHYLLIS  glad things are slowly getting back to normal for you. I could read your post so the font size was OK. Did not need to squint or get up tp the monitor to read it.

CALLIE  my grandson always has Thanksgiving dinner but this year I am hesitating. He also has parents, brother, me and then his in-laws. This year one of my DIL's sisters and BIL showed up at  my son's without notice. They just drove in from California.  If David invites them, too it  will be pretty crowded and I cannot take a crowd anymore. I will call David later and check with him.

PATRICIA  when I was still working and setting the alarm clock every night I would try getting early appointments on Saturday mornings then I had  the rest of the Saturday for shopping or whatever I felt like doing. Now no alarm setting and sleep and wake when nature says to. Some mornings I wake early and some late. At my age I think I am allowed to do that. This company knows I do not want  anyone here before 11 am and  that was  the second time last week she sent someone early. I have to talk to her and straighten her out. I know they are short handed especially with CNAs but that is what I need. She sent homemakers all week and they cannot give me a back massage. Heck some cannot  even wash dishes right. After they leave I have had  to was dishes over. Wonder if they eat on plates that have bits of left overs st ill on them of drink from a mug that has a coffee ring around inside. I don't, I like mine clean.

JENNY  the doctors told Yvette she would be out of work for 3 months. This is the first time she ever had surgery and she never had much pain before so she was not  prepared for the agony that pain can be. I am about ready to call my doctor to see about  getting a cortisone shot in my left shoulder-the good one. About  a month ago I twisted it somehow while doing some thing and it keeps getting worse. After 8 years my right  one still feels good. Wish I asked at  the time how long the replacement lasts.

LLOYD  I wonder how many of us found that out by accident about the mouse scrolling up or down for us to read without us moving it.

AMY  when I used to stay over at  my son's when I helped at the orchard I would go out on t he back porch and lookup at  the sky. No lights back there and the house blocked most of the light from the street light. So nice looking up at all the stars and picking out  the dippers and others. Never can see stars here, too many lights in the parking lot and on the front porch and corners of this building.

JANE  hurry home, you have been away too long and are missed so much.

Have a good day and stay safe.

Good morning!  Sunny and chilly here but I am up and beginning to get my usual routine going.  Finally got all my e-mails straightened out...what a lot of junk mail I get!

I actually cooked  a small meal last night so I am getting my strength back...slowly.  Planning to have spaghetti in the InstaPot today.  Still keeping it simple.

I want to thank EVERYBODY here who has been so encouraging to me when I was feeling so sick and down.  You are all good friends even though we have never met.

Hope to hear from, or about, Jane today.  Think about her everyday and send good thoughts and prayers her way.

Take care, All.

Good morning Amy and Lloyd. Amy, I'm thinking about making more biscuits to go with my soup again. I make small amounts as I don't think they store well, even in the freezer. I prefer them fresh, hot, and flaky. Then I eat too many!

 :cheer: YAY for Jane!

I can make up a quick pot of soup or stew, use the slow cooker or on the back of the stove all day with leftovers, herbs, and spices. I'm getting so I rarely follow recipes or at least not to the letter. I start too many times to think, "What if?"

Good morning, Gloria. I set the alarm because of my insomnia. I need time to go to sleep, to do breathing exercises to relax and turn off my thoughts, and still wake up multiple times at night. If I don't keep to a set schedule, it's even worse, and some nights I haven't slept, and then I crash during the day, and it's harder to get back into a rhythm again.

For me, a routine is best. I try to do the dishes immediately and tidy up as I cook. One habit my mother taught me, and I'm surprised at how many don't, is when I put back a dish or a piece of silverware, I put it on the bottom, underneath the others. This way, I'm evenly rotating what I use. Since I spent cash and time buying containers and scouring YouTube videos for ideas over recent years, my apartment is organized and uncluttered, with a few exceptions. I want to keep it that way, so I put things back after use and try to have a place for everything within its site. Of course, barring Farrah, I don't have a roommate, so it's routine now.

CNAs and homemakers are still in short supply or back-ordered, so I feel for those who need help. It simply isn't there as this city climbs out from underneath Delta.

I have never seen the stars here because it's 24/7 daylight in summer, and there's cloud cover in the winter. If it isn't cloudy, it gets frigid with no clouds holding in the heat. Plus, with the earth's curvature in the Arctic, many eclipses, comets, and other space events aren't viewable. When I spent those years in the South, I never had time to stargaze with work and my family.

Lloyd Hammond

Our grand daughter was telling us awhile ago, to grand up the walnuts and put some butter and flour In them and make a pie crust, Like grand cracker crust Bake it the same way. she says it is better. think I will try it.

Lloyd

Shirley

Sounds like a winner, Lloyd. Lloyd, long time ago I used my husband's bench vice to crack nuts, works pretty good & doesn't splatter them like I was doing with a hammer! Hickory nuts are also hard to crack. I used to bring some back from the campground at the lake & crack them for the squirrels here. Wasn't any on the ground last time I was there. They did cut out quite a few of the trees.

Bedtime in Kansas. Hope everyone not home in their own beds has a peaceful night, hugs to all, and all snuggled in their own beds, sweet dreams! Pretty chilly, will see if Callie wants to come back in for the night. One night this week it is supposed to be unusually warm so they may want to stay out. I will get sound sleep if they do. Tom & Callie are having problems & my utility room floor will have to be replaced "someday". They have a litter box in there and get a fresh training pat every day, but Tom soaks it over the top even though I bought the largest & thickest they make. Not sure why he does this, he manages to use the litter box in my bedroom without any accidents. It is getting serious with the two of them but will be such a challenge getting them to a vet or even having the one come to the house to put them to sleep. They will fight & panic at another human getting near them. Not a pleasant thought but difficult to keep up with their accidents these days. Don't want to think about it. They love sleeping outside when not cold. I'm heading to bed.

Amy

Good morning..

I hope today  is the Jane that Jane is sprung from the hospital!!

We had a light dusting of snow...doubt if it will stay when the sun peeks out. Domestic duties this morning after we get back from town. Froze the chicken soup and will make a different one today.

Lloyd, I had not heard of walnut crust and had to look it up. Here is one I came across.
https://www.diamondnuts.com/recipe/walnut-pie-crust/

Shirley, would you or rather could you give the cats Rescue Remedy?? This is just drops and maybe something they really like can be doctored up with it?

Gloria, the odd time we would see a shooting star and a wish was made!!Kyle used to get the cortisone shots in his shoulder and they really helped for a while.

Phyllis, good to hear you are slowly improving ,take your time.

Patrica, they were calling for more snow today but when I checked I don't see any in the forecast  .

Better get..

Enjoy your day and stay safe

Good morning everyone, a gloomy raining one here. Have not heard if I get help today and I really am getting disgusted with this company. Then I just might spend my day laying on the couch with the TV on. Only way I can get through a day like this. Had trou ble getting TV onto the local channel. Was getting all this crazy stuff and trying to get away from it I got Tubi channel and Our Miss Brooks was on then had to use the  Contour on the remote to get where I wanted to be, local news. 52 here and 52 in Arizona where my daughter lives. Never saw that before.

PHYLLIS  know how you feel catching up on everything after being in the hospi tal and  then rehab. I felt  that  way in the beginning of the year. Never did cat ch up on all email just  start delet ing most  of what came in those weeks and only read what was important to me.

PATRICIA too cold where you are, guess I will stay where I am.

AMY  thanks for the updates you post about  Jane. She sure has thoughtful daughters and son. Wish my daughter could come here but then I am not  as ill as JANE has been.

LLOYD  walnuts in a piecrust would be tasty.

AMY  I had sho ts in my right shoulder before it  was replaced and one back doc put some in my back but when he wan ted me to have one every month I said no. I always heard no more than 2 a year  because it makes our bones weak.

Have a good day and keep safe.

Rainy today but we needed it and it isn't snow!  Please, all of you keep it up North, or in Alaska, for awhile.

Amy, do you ever slow down?  I hoped we would hear that Jane came home today.  Fingers still crossed.

I actually felt like cooking dinner yesterday.  Just spaghetti in the IP but it tasted good.  Couldn't have done it without David's help but we made it.  I'm doing better.

Lloyd, walnut pie crust sounds good but you can have my share of the deer meat.  Sorry, I'm not a fan of deer meat.  But, sounds like you are keeping very busy.

Shirley, that's warm for this time of year in Ks., isn't it?  Or, maybe I've forgotten.

Gloria,  I deleted most of the emails, too.  They are mostly junk, anyway.

Take care, All.

I've been & read half a dozen times today but don't see my purple replies. Really???

Amy, I'm not sure I can get anything past the cats to help their fright, I've tried over the counter stuff from the pet stores & even children's Benadryl & they won't eat whatever I've tried it in. You'd think canned salmon would cover any smell or taste BUT........

Hope Jane gets sprung tomorrow & all is going well. Little by little our birds are back in the nests. Let's get through the holidays without anyone else needing ANY surgeries or getting sick.

My oldest gr-son's father in law has been critical for over a week, Covid. Diabetes & a massive stroke 10 years ago put him in nursing care. There is no hope of recovery because he has a Do Not Resuscitate form on file so that limits what Hospice can do. So sad to watch the family as they stay with him, but at least they are allowed (in full cover).

We were doing the same with my mother (over Thanksgiving) in 1988 when we first moved to this house. I spent from the end of Sept until she died Nov.25 back & forth from the center of MO to the center of KS. But I didn't have 3 little kids to worry about during that time. My gr-son can handle taking care of everything, but I have taken over a couple meals during the time. Never a good time for death but the holiday will carry that memory forever.

I have my lists to make up so I don't forget what I need to do next. I will start thawing the first turkey tomorrow... it goes in the oven Wed morning so I can have the oven ready for the next one Thanksgiving Day. It's all the stuff that goes with the turkey that everyone loves (dressing, noodles, etc). I hope to get back in but think I am losing control over TIME lately!

Sweet dreams to all and God Bless.

So nice to come in here and see Jane first thing in the morning! :smitten:

Our temp took an Olympic dive and it is at 14 ° at the moment. Baking and sewing are on my list for the day.

Shirley, this is an all natural product. I didn't think I could get it past Babe but she did eat the bread and meat that I put it on.

Phyllis, yes....when I get a moment I do. Not many moments at times though..

Gloria, hubby doesn't have them any more either and surgery is out of the question now. Dr said it would be like sewing up butter.

Better get ready, exciting day Janies coming home!!
