Okay,Shirley and Rammel. I believe I have seen yours while browsing Amazon, but yours, Shirley, look new to me.

In a little while I will be heading up to Jack Williams to get a whole new set of tires for my car.

Wishing a Happy Thanksgiving to all of you!

This will be my first holiday without Chape. Not having him at the table is going to difficult! Donna is having dinner at her house. Granddaughter, Erin, her husband Keith and G-grandson Brody are here from Vermont. I'll be riding over with Michael and Jennifer. Donna is adding a touch of the south to her dinner with sweet potato pie and corn bread stuffing.

Marilyn - I don't know if it's that way for you but music just doesn't sound the same with my hearing aid. It could be because I have only one ear that hears!

For watching TV Michael gave me some high quality speakers. They have Wi-Fi and I can wear them anywhere in the house or yard and listen to music channels, etc.

MaryPage

I have never cottoned to listening to stuff with ear thingies, except for listening to audio books while walking back in the day when I walked for miles.  But for TV watching, so I can mute my set or have it at a decent noise level, one of my sons bought me a set of SENNHEISER ears that I can also push a button and switch to people listening.  I never use them for the latter, though.  They are quite wonderful for the TV, as I don't have to let the whole world know I am watching TV.  These condos are actually very well sound proofed; but I worry anyway.

HAPPY THANKSGIVING TO EACH & EVERY ONE!!

Beverly

MaryPage - Mine are Sennheiser also. They're great. I like that I can be here in the office on my computer (I use a PC) and listen to the TV in the living room.

CallieOK

My son gave me some TV Ears (as are advertised in the AARP magazine).  I like them but wish they were earphones instead of earbuds.
May have to investigate the Sennheisers.

Sons/dils/Grands are spending the day with "the other side of the families" (i.e. "the in-laws").  So my dinner will be catered...by Stouffer, Birds Eye, Del Monte and Jello.  ;)

Back to watching the Macy's Parade.

HAPPY THANKSGIVING MORNING!
A beautiful sunny day here so far.  Supposed to be in the low 70's today.
Older daughter and granddaughter have been here for a few days, and will be leaving on Friday for home.  Younger daughter will be here soon, and they will start preparing the TG dinner.  It's actually already "prepared", but still takes some time to heat and cook everything.

Our son and his family will not be with us today.  They always spend TG with is wife's parents and her brother and three sisters and their families. We will see them next weekend for the annual Lutefisk dinner.

Best wishes to everyone, that you have a wonderful Thanksgiving, with family or friends! ❤️

A good day after Thanksgiving Greeting to ALL 🦃

I hope you all had as happy and enjoyable Thanksgiving Day as we did. We joined our son, DIL and Jonah at DIL's parents home.  They prepared the most delicious traditional Thanksgiving Dinner.  It was wonderful.  We are so blessed to have been included🦃. We had to drive 40 minutes south to their beautiful home.  Her mother decorated their home to the nth degree. Big beautiful tree....just lovely. 🌲

The only problem with being the guests is NO leftovers😩. There were 8 adults and three little ones, so we pretty much ate most of the food, so not much to share🤪🤪

My typing arm is so painful I can barely type, so I am sorry I have not been posting.  I have taken three breaks to get this done so forgive me if I did not comment to all.

I can not stand ear plugs in my ears, so I purchased a set called  Aftershokz and they fit in front of my ears on the bone that transfers it to your ears.  Because the ear is uncovered you can freely hear everything around you.  I even swim with mine..... not underwater....of course.  I love them.

Enjoy this beautiful day and prayers for all who are in need.

Hope everyone had a nice Thanksgiving dinner. We had a lovely dinner at Donna's. I had something "new to me", a baked corn pudding made with sour cream and cream cheese (plus some other things). It was really good!

Callie - Your "catered" dinner sounds like my idea of cooking! I don't cook much anymore.

Jenny - It's nice to have dinner sometimes where you can just sit and enjoy it!  :) Donna sent leftovers home with me so I had that for supper tonight. Still have enough for another day.

Marilyn - You'll have to tell us about your Lutefisk dinner!

When I got up this morning Michael was outside trimming the shrubs and doing other landscaping work. I suggested that we hire someone but he insisted he wants to do it. Like father like son!

Marilyne, et.al., here is Jimmy's obit. Sue doesn't want a large service, but it is kind of hard to keep the number down because Jim was a well known fixture in the regional jazz community.  https://obits.pennlive.com/us/obituaries/pennlive/name/byron-wood-obituary?n=byron-wood&pid=200701214&fhid=18340&f=portal He worked with many more local and regional musicians than are listed.

Marilyne

MarsGal -  Thank you for posting Jim's obituary.  It was very interesting, as I knew it would be.   He was a talented man, and lived a good life.   I hope your sister is doing well, along with the rest of Jim's family.

MarsGal - What a beautiful tribute to an accomplished musician! As someone with no musical ability, I appreciate those who have it. Family gatherings must have been fun.

Marilyne

Beverly -  I remember the long ago days of family gatherings on holidays, or friends dropping in to sit and chat for awhile.  we had nothing to take up our time or "entertain" us back then, like television, computers, etc., so we welcomed the unexpected friends or neighbors, who would visit in the evenings or afternoons.   Everyone we knew back then had a piano in their living room, or den . . . including us.  There was always someone in the group who could, and would sit down and play, with just a little coaxing.  My Dad's side of the family was very talented when it came to music, and his sister was one of those lucky ones who could sit down at the piano, and play anything you requested.

I longed to be able to play "by ear", like my Aunt Ethel, but I didn't inherit that talent.  Now, you rarely see a piano in someones house?  I don't know a single child or teenager who can play the piano, or any other instrument. (except the guitar).

Beverly, I hope you are doing well, and still have a lot of family there with you?  I remember that Donna lives near you now, so that is good.  The upcoming Christmas holiday will be especially difficult for you this year, but Donna will be there . . .  and I hope some of your other children and grands will be there as well.

RAMMEL

"I don't know a single child or teenager who can play the piano or any other instrument. (except the guitar)".  I think the expense of buying instruments and getting lessons has caused much of thin. Plus kids have much better things to do today, like texting,TV, and other entertaining things to do (not necessarily good things). I also believe that some school systems have dropped the music programs in favor of other more socially acceptable & necessary subjects.
(Don't miss the slight sarcasm hidden above).

Good morning everyone!   Same old, same old here, as far as weather is concerned.  Sunny and warm, with daytime highs in the low 70's, and nights in the mid 40's.   We did have one, rainstorm, in mid October, and since then not a single drop.   We are running out of water here, so we now have water rationing in many parts of the state.  Southern California is even worse, as they did not get any rain from our October storm.

I know I've complained a lot about our drought, in recent years.  :-[   Nothing to be done about it, until Mother Nature decides to lift the high pressure system that sits over California, and sends us a couple of much needed rain storms.  ::)

Looking through the messages of the past week, I see that we haven't heard from some of our regular members since before Thanksgiving?  Hoping we see a message today from Mary Page,  Jean,  Jackie, and Callie?

Just catching up with the posts.  We had a really nice Thanksgiving.  Our youngest daughter lives just a few blocks from us and loves the holidays and is such a joy to be around.  I think she inherited her spirit from her grandmother (my mother) and makes entertaining look so simple.

Our day temperatures are down in the 60s now and nights are in the 40s.  It is colder here than Ocala and we get more rain here, but we still have plenty of sunshine.

I hope everyone enjoyed their Thanksgiving day.  I'm not a fan of the parades but I love watching the The National Dog Show on Thanksgiving Day.  Some of those groomed dogs are a sight to behold.

Beverly, You have certainly been blessed in having two of your children close by at this time.

Marsgal, the obituary of your brother-in-law was a nice tribute to his life.

Jenny, I sure do hope you will soon get some relief from the pain you are going through.

The time just slips away from me—-not that I am busy.  I used to want regular time schedules year round, but I hate it when it starts getting dark so early.  Now I wish we had Daylight Savings Time year round.  I would much rather have more sun in the evening as I am definitely not a morning person.😒

Marilyne, Nice that you had your girls there for Thanksgiving.  Callie, you were alone but you didn't sound a bit lonely.

Good to read all your posts.  Our Webmaster has made our Seniors and Friends site so attractive for the holidays.  Thanks, Michael.

Where the schools have fallen down as to supporting music education, others have continued to volunteer their time mentoring various youth groups. Jim's best friend, Ronnie Waters, is such a person. He has spent many, many years with a local youth jazz group. Jim used to volunteer his time to a local summer program at a local park.

I remember when I was working, I used to prep for print the yearly summer program that the Maryland Recreation and  Parks held. Music instruction and theater were among the listings. Maryland Parks had an impressive listing of summer programs, and not just for the young. I suspect they have had to curtail many of these programs because of COVID-19. They do have several other programs throughout the year including a monthly book discussion series that they hold on Zoom.

When the parents get involved, they often get what they want.  The bottom line is, WHAT do they want?

Our 5 year-old Ava takes violin at school.  Sam took cello, made the Kansas City all High School Orchestra, got a full 4-year scholarship to the University of Missouri, and is now in his 3rd year, with paid orders for compositions on the side.  His brothers Simon & Max, still in High School, play the violin and the viola, respectively, and both play the piano.  Ezra, almost 11, in Baltimore plays the piano.  Bella in Easton plays the banjo and writes her own songs.  I should, in all fairness, mention 6 year-old Miles, also in Easton, who writes his own, well, actually does not write them down, but memorizes them and forces us to do the same, words and music.  To EVERYthing and everyone.  In the loudest possible register.  No talent there, but tons of zeal.
Mebbe the talent will appear later?  While there is life, there is hope!

And 6 year-old Solo in St. Louis: he has the theatrical talent.  He dances, sings, and soon will get into instruments.  Watch out World!  Bundle of Energy on its way.

Jenny -  HAPPY BIRTHDAY!
Have a great day today, and may all your birthday wishes come true! ❤️

Mary Page - Looks like you have a large group of musically talented Grand, and Great-Grand children!  Much to be proud of!

MarsGal -  Some school districts here have a limited music program, but most only have the high school marching bands.  When my youngest was a teen, she attended the San Jose Children's Musical Theater, during the Summer, for a couple of years.   They did productions of, "The Music Man",  "Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dream Coat",  "Annie" and a couple of others that I can't remember.   It was a wonderful experience for her.

I thank you MARILYN, for the nice birthday greetings‼️   I truly enjoyed a wonderful day, with so many birthday calls and so many friends and family reaching out to me.  I had a 2 hour PT and they even made me feel special there🥳🥳

I finally have some relief from my painful, "good shoulder"‼️ I saw my surgeon for my 12 week post op, and he was very pleased with my surgery shoulder....he said he knows that my recovery is going to take time to heal due to the trauma I went through and and the 8 months of the shoulder not moving.  Because of the reversed replacement it is going to need a lot of muscle building, but he liked what he saw in the arm.  We discussed my good shoulder and he feels  I will need another reverse shoulder replacement down the road as my rotator cuff is so messed up and the arthritis🤪🤪🤪. He gave me a cortisone shot and I can tell already it is showing good improvement I hope it continues‼️

RAMMEL, one of my grandsons plays the piano.  He also composes his own music.  He is a natural and we are sure proud of him.  All grands have taken lessons and can play, but one by one  other Interest have taken over.  Our only granddaughter is a very dedicated dancer.  It is her life and she dances every day, and some days are for several hours‼️  I do not mean for this to sound like a grandma bragging session, but it seems I am.  Our oldest grandson became a Eagle Scout at almost 12.  He is a excellent student, President of his Sophomore Class and is on student council.  He plays lacrosse and football and has lettered in both last and this year.  These are the children that lost ther mother this past June to metastatic colon cancer!  We are just so proud of how they all have kept up with all that life has dealt them.

Smiling at your precious grands and their talents as well, MARYPAGE.  These days it is refreshing to read what our friends family members are nfolved in.  There are MANY talents here and we are all so proud of them.

Oh, and I just wanted to share that our Joan, aka Bis', Grandson Finlay turned 15 a few days ago.  Remember how we all watched him grow up with pictures taken with that big ol bear?

Pleasant dreams to all.

A very Happy Birthday to you Jenny. I am glad you have such wonderful people who care.

Last evening I got the call that my doors are finally in. The guys will arrive in a few hours to replace them. Tomorrow would have been a bit warmer, but I am just glad it will get done.

It is beginning to look like I will have to chauffeur Sue to the cemetery on Friday. This terrifies me. First I rarely ever have had anyone in the car with me when I drive, so I hope it doesn't cause a distraction. Secondly, we will have to take US81 to get to the cemetery. That road is an absolute horror to drive with more than its' share of speeders and accidents. I've never been fond of driving.

To top it off, I have an appointment with a Cardiologist as a follow up to my lovely little trip to the hospital early last Thursday morning. No heart attack, but they caught very high blood pressure and something funky with my heart beat/rhythm. More scariness.

MaryPage

Jenny (Denver Darling), I am late in wishing you a Happy Birthday, but be assured the feeling is deep.  I am all at sixes & nines these days, and trying to pull my strings all the way back to Earth, as it were.

In pointing to those of my great grandchildren who are musical, I skipped the granddaughters, as they are all fairly old now, and hardly the Future.  What I was trying to do was reassure Rammel that there are some pockets of hope.  One of, if not THE, highlights of my 90th back in 2019 was the entertainment put on by both the granddaughters (I would remind you I have thirteen (13) and nary a grandson) and the great grands.  I adore music, but am not musical.  I did take Piano, but it did not take me.  I am unable to sing a note in the proper key.  Yet I am crazy for Opera and am a lifetime concert and symphony goer. Well, there have to be those who do and those who attend!

MaryPage

MarsGal, I relate to your feelings about driving.  Have not always been like this, but now I no longer drive at all and don't enjoy riding in a car.  Chip, fortunately, is a good driver.

MaryPage

The program for my 90th was not all musical, though most of it was.

I cannot get out of my head nine (then) year-old Drake (we call her Drakie) who does calisthenics.  You cannot possibly believe this, but I swear to it: that child got herself into a pretzel shape, and visions of hospital corridors flew through my mind.  As it was, she undid herself with no harm.

RAMMEL

Mary Page,
I'm glad to hear there are still those interested in music, other than guitar plunking. As a teen ager there was an attempt to teach me to play a clarinet. While ultimately I could play the notes off a sheet of music, I never excelled at it. So I just stepped back and became a listener and critic.  I love music and can detect a slightly off note. But can't sing worth a hoot. So as I age a bit I just turn the volume up a little and enjoy other peoples efforts. I don't care for Opera, or jazz where there is a ten minute take off by a drummer (do like a more sane jazz).  But other than that I like most music. Will even listen to bag pipes or an old Calliope. Recently as posted here on S&F I listened to a Lisa Stoll and her Alp-horn - talented and nice listening (Thanks to whoever posted that).

Rick . . . Lisa Stoll and her Alp-horn!  How did I miss that?
Sounds like something I would enjoy listening to, so if you can remember who posted it, let me know.  Maybe Oldiesmann, or possibly MarsGal posted it in, "Just Plain Old Music"?

Like you, I can't sing worth a darn.  That was always my secret fantasy when I was young - to be the girl singer with a big band, standing at the microphone, and singing all those lovely pop songs with the great lyrics,  from the 40's and 50's.  Peggy Lee, Helen Forrest,  Doris Day . . . maybe in my next life?  ::) :D

Lovely sound, but how do they "do" the notes?  I don't see any fingering holes and looks like her hands never move.  Thanks for the posting.

I believe it's like a trumpet or bugle.  I have seen her switch mouth pieces but not sure of why.

A most unusual sound, and fascinating to watch her play.  I liked the second selection, "Amazing Grace", the best, but enjoyed them both very much.

Thank you, MARSGAL, for my Birthday greetings.  Happy to read the doors have finally arrived.  I hope they are installed and look lovely.  I read the concerns in your post about driving Sue to the cemetery.  I am sorry this is concerning you and I hope you will be able to do it without too much stress. Best of luck at the cardiologist...... I hope it is just stress related and not something too serious.  🙏

MY thanks to you for the Birthday wishes, MARYPAGE.  I am so thankful that you seem to be feeling stronger everyday.  I absolutely love all kinds of music.... However, I do not recognize some of the so called music these days as music‼️  I appreciate some of our younger generation using their talents and making the best of them.
