MarsGal - Thanks so much for the, Alice Springs Chicken  recipe!  I had no idea that recipe would be available online.  I'll figure out if I can manage to prepare it okay.  Arthritis and other hand issues have left me with very few cooking options. I can always wait until daughter Shelley comes next month, and she can do it for me. (for us) She likes to cook, and always takes over the kitchen, when she is here, which I am grateful for.    AJ is good for heating up a Stouffer's meal in the microwave, but that's the extend of his cooking ability!  ha ha

Jean - We are also watching the Ukraine tragedy, every day and evening.  I flip  around to all the many news channels, to get different perspectives from the various reporters who are right there in person  Both right and left wing  oriented news shows are all on the same wave length this time, and reporting everything the same..  My favorite reporter is Martha Radditz, on ABC.   She is amazing for a woman, who will turn 70 years old sometime this year!  A tireless reporter, with all the facts.  We are pro-Ukraine also of course.   I doubt there is anyone in the USA, or other countries, who is pro Russia?  Maybe China?  They aren't saying much at all.  Enough said.

MaryPage

My heart is flying the blue & yellow flag, as well and all.  Anytime any nation invades and tries to annex any other free nation, it brings a deep sadness to me that I cannot get rid of until, and if, the peoples of that nation are freed once more.  So I am hoping so hard that The Ukraine knows freedom again soon.

I feel so bad for all of those mothers trying to get their children away from death & destruction.  That could very well be one or more of us!

I have been watching Saturday Night Live for nearly half a century now, and once in several blue moons they have an opening sketch that blows me away.  Last night was one of those nights.  For those of you who missed it: they had the Ukrainian chorus from the New York church singing at the top of their lungs, and when they had finished, kate McKinnon and another regular said the magic words very quietly:
"Live from New York, it's Saturday Night!"

And pointed to the word KYIV spelled out on a table.

It was a real tear-jerker.
[/i][/i]

MaryPage

You may, or may not, be interested in a tidbit of Ukrainian life: namely their religions.  It is all rather fascinating.  Like us, they count every religion in the world in their population, the two major ones being Orthodox & Roman Catholic Christianity.

I rent my condo from a Roman Catholic priest, who bought several units years ago to be part of his retirement income. He came to this country as a child, along with 2 brothers and 2 sisters.  These five were the children of a Roman Catholic PRIEST!  I swear.  It seems the Pope permits Catholics in the Ukraine to have married priests, as the Orthodox do, as long as they pledge allegiance to the Pope in Rome.  When my landlord grew up and became a priest here, he came under the rules for Americans, and had to remain celibate.

Mary Page:  That is indeed interesting . . . about the many religions, and interpretations of religion, in Ukraine.  I plan to look it up online, and learn more.   I'm also interested in listening to the Ukrainian Chorus, so will see if I can get Saturday Night Live, On Demand.

Jenny - I'm glad you kept after the doctor, and will be getting that nerve test.  They've been putting you off long enough!    I can't believe that it's been a whole year since you fell. :'(

The war in Ukraine is tragic.

I live in a multicultural complex  here for
low income Seniors And we have many elderly
families from Russia,  Ukraine,  and the Congo
(Just a view of the diversity of my neighbors.

This apartment has over 155 apartments and I think
a lot of places where people of like origins meet
(before Covid, of course) ..

I find this war Tragic  but mostly the fact
that some people here of great influence
are rooting for that miserable bastard Putin...

We are headed to hell here in the USA.

I know much of the world is against what Putin
is doing including much of Russia.

This needs to end before the end comes
to all of us.

JMHO..

I'm with you, Babe.

The news on ABC and NBC tonight was downright uplifting; at least when you consider how very depressing it has been for absolutely ages now.

Russians protesting in most of their cities.  Americans protesting in many of theirs.  Europeans in many of theirs, AND, although they've already taken in waves of refugees, readying to take still more.  And think about it: the fathers were not allowed to go past the Ukrainian border, so these women only have young children and very old men with them.  Tough going for both those fleeing death and those trying to come up with shelter, food, health care and DIAPERS for the hordes arriving.  How would you, personally, manage with a woman and several children for an indefinite period of time?  I would have also said "speaking a foreign language," but, I don't know about you, but I was terribly impressed by the enormous number of both young and old on the streets of the Ukraine who seem to speak English, and very good English, at that! Me, I don't know a single word of Ukrainian; do you?

Anyway, the human race seems a tad more hopeful to me this night.  As for Putin, I think all the money and the power have pushed him over the edge and around the bend.

Sandy

Apparently ,
being evil and crazy out of ones mind is a
prerequisite  to becoming a leader in this
"messed up" world.

It bothers me
when I see irrational people taking power
and abusing that power to the point of
invading other countries and threatening
nuclear war.

I find it unbelievable and depressing
that fellow Armoricans have sunk so low
as to encourage these circumstances.

Otherwise,  I am having a great day,
and hope everyone else is having one also.

Good Morning to all who are looking in.  Just a quick hello, as I'm getting ready for a trip to two grocery stores today.  Almost totally out of food, so have to stock up on some staples . . . bread, milk, canned goods, produce, and everything else!  It will be an expensive trip, thanks to the supply shortage, and sky high prices as a result.  :o  I heard from my daughter this morning, that she cannot find any canned cat food, in the Central Valley town where she lives!  None in any of the regular markets, or in stores like Petco.    Fortunately, she does have plenty of kibble for her kitty.    So I'll check the pet food counter at Safeway this morning, and see if there's any in stock here?  if so I'll buy some, and keep it here for her until they come for a visit in about two weeks.

FlaJean

Good morning.  A bright sunny day so far.  Supposed to get up to 72° this afternoon and back down to the 40s tonight.

Marilyne, I don't envy you your trip to the grocery stores.  Larry said he thought he would make a quick run for some eggs.  We always have eggs and a piece of bacon for breakfast but Larry always likes an egg sandwich before going to bed at night.

Tonight is President Biden's first state of the union message tonight.

My thoughts are with the Ukrainian people.  They are in for some terrible needless suffering and heartache because they want to live free in a democracy.

I hope all of our senior friends are feeling good today.

Good Tuesday....Fat Tuesday and HAPPY MARCH 🦋🦋

I have enjoyed reading all of the posts.....love thinking about all of the things we talk about in here‼️

I am off to my physical therapy.

Have a wonderful day.

Marilyne, canned cat food is scarce here too. There is very little to choose from on the shelves. However, I have been getting my canned cat food shipped by the case (some are 12 can, some 24 can) from Amazon each month, and I haven't had to switch brands or flavors. Yet. The cats are now on Blue Buffalo; it might be a different story with Purina.

Denver

Good morning 🦋  Ash Wednesday today, and another beautiful day in store for the Mile Hgh City.  A storm is forecasted for Friday, 😩 but this week sure has been enjoyable 🥰. I am definitely ready for spring🐝🐝

MARSGAL, and MARILYN. cat food is in very limited supply here in the stores also.  I bought a case of it on line from Amazon.

I am SORE, SORE today after a good workout at PT in the morning and a good workout at the pool in the afternoon.  Doing my very best to get this arm stronger 😩. My PT is certain that I have a palsy issue and she is most anxious for me to get the EMG test done on the 24 to see exactly what we are dealing with😩😩🤔

I wish you all a wonderful day.

Jenny, you sure have had a lot of trouble with your shoulder since you fell.  I hope you find what the problems are and get some relief soon.

Today is sunny and warm.  My pansies have lasted all winter and still look so pretty.  We will have to replace them in April when the weather will be too warm for them.

It is very quiet here today.  Earlier the bombing was noisy but only lasted about a half hour.

Can't seem to get away from the war.  Don't know why but For some reason I started reading an old Helen MacInnes book about a World War II story happening in Brittany. At least it is just a story.

Think I'll go get some lemonade and spend a little more time reading.

Marilyne

Looks like we might get a few sprinkles of rain over the weekend.  Not enough to relieve the severe drought conditions, but hoping it will clear our stagnant air of pollen and pollution.

Jean - We are being asked to please NOT plant annuals this spring, so I won't be replacing my stone planter of pansies with Petunias, as I usually do in the spring.  The planter is in front in full sun, so does take lots of water.  I'll use most of my allotted yard water, to keep the backyard birdbath filled.

Today I will be seeing my hairdresser and dear friend, for the first time in about four months.  She had surgery in December, and during her recovery, the shop here in town where she has worked for 25 years closed down.  :'(    So sad, but the owner couldn't keep up the mortgage during the long Covid lockdowns.    So, my friend  has moved to another shop in a neighboring town.  I'm looking forward to seeing her, and finally getting my now long, shoulder length hair, cut!

lots of businesses closed for good during the many lockdowns.  Mostly restaurants, diners, bakeries, etc.  Since we rarely go out for a meal anymore, we have't missed the restaurant closures.  However, we are having a hard time finding lots of our favorite food items at the grocery store.  Not that big of a deal, and I would never complain about such a minor issue, what with the really serious, life changing problems going on right now in Europe.

FlaJean

Marilyne, I've been so upset over the news that I had to stop watching for a while.  How sad and so unnecessary.

I know you'll miss your flowers this spring.  Larry was out this evening watering the yard and our flowers as it hasn't rained for several days.  The azaleas in the front have already finished blooming.

Covid never was bad here and everything seems pretty normal, but we still wear our masks in the grocery store.

Our neighbors just flew to the north for a wedding.  I hope they don't have any problems and run into any of those weirdos on the plane that you read about.  It will be interesting to hear about their trip.

There's not much going on in this area for which we thankful.  We're having some nice weather but I really haven't gone outside to enjoy it.  It is allergy time and both Larry and I have some allergies.  To tell the truth I just don't seem to have much energy, but I'm not complaining.

It has been so quiet here in the forum.  I hope all is well with everyone.

MONDAY 🎶 MONDAY.....Good morning to all.  After a week of lovely weather, old man winter returned😩 The entire weekend was cold and snowy.  Now we warmup a bit until Thursday when we get hit with another storm🤪🤪 Never should complain as we need all the moisture we can get‼️

My son surprised me yesterday with the news that he is taking me to see my dad this weekend.  It is going to be a very quick trip, but a short visit is better than no visit.  He said, "we need to go"!  I just hope I can do it🤪‼️

Yes, JEAN, it has been a long year of recovery with this shoulder. I appreciate your kind words.  Hopefully the upcoming nerve test will tell what we are dealing with.

MARILYN, I am sorry that you will not be planting your flowers this spring due to the drought.  I know you will miss them.

We are with our grands for a couple of nights as dad had to travel again.

Have a good Monday.  🙏🙏 for peace in our world 🙏🙏

When I hear the street sweeper going by outside at around 6:00 AM, when it's still dark outside, I know that another Monday has arrived!  That strange looking machine is loud enough to wake me up, but not an obnoxious sound . . . more like an extra large swishing vacuum cleaner.   So many cars parked on our street now, that it's never is able to clean in front of every house.  Remember the old days, when people parked their cars in the garage . . .or on the driveway?  ::)

Jenny - So glad to hear that you will be visiting your Dad this week!  Here's hoping that he is doing as well as can be expected at his age . . . I think you said he is 97 now?    He will be so happy to see you and your son!  :) ❤️

Jean - I had an unusual spurt of energy yesterday, and actually got a lot done here in the house.  AJ was busy repairing some of the slats on our plantation shutters, so I decided it was time to do some heavy duty work as well.  The living room, the kitchen and bedroom are now,  much improved! Too bad things seem to revert back to a "cluttered" state, so quickly!  ::)

Masks mandates have ended here in California, but I plan to continue wearing one when I'm in the grocery store or other indoor places.  Some school districts are still requiring masks on kids, but there is a huge backlash from parents, so I don't think the masks will last much longer.

Denver

Good morning 🦋

🥶🥶 out there this morning, but we have sunshine and the day is to warm up to 32°‼️ It does look mighty pretty with the snow glistening ❄️❄️❄️

MARILYN, my, my you were mighty energetic yesterday ‼️  I agree that our home seems to return to the "clutter" stage very quickly too😩😩 Yes, my dad is 97.  He will turn 98 the 9th of April.  I am so glad we are going soon.  I would love to be there for his Birthday, but that remains to be seen.  My son told us that things are loosing up in SFRAN as well, but you still have to show your vaccination card to enter a restaurant.  We continue to put our masks on when we go in any store or restaurant.  I am wondering if we will ever feel safe without one?  Do they ticket the cars on the street when they are not moved for the street sweeper?  A workman was on our sons street and got a ticket for $85.

Sad to not see more posters here in Norm's.  Oh what fun we had here back in the day with all the wonderful friends chatting away😩

I wish you ALL a good day.

Good afternoon everyone from the
cold and windy,  rocky coast of Maine.

All is well here.    I have been sleeping later
and later these days.   I use to get up very
early every day but my habits have changed.

I didn't get up to after 10:30 this AM..
YIKES!!

I am doing well,  getting  plendy of
sleep and trying to keep my mind off
geographical wars.

But of course it is always on my mind.
Sure glad that I don't have to put gas
in a car and the price of gas is blowing
up..    Oh well,  that is the least we can
do for our beautiful World..

Have a good day everyone.. Stay warm
and don't take any wooden Russian Rubles.

Today was a beautiful day.  It was good to see the sun after a couple of days of rain and overcast skies.

It will soon be day light savings time and I'm looking forward to the change.    I'm not an early morning riser so like more light in the evenings.  There are several dogwood trees in the neighborhood and they are starting to blossom .  Spring is in the air!

Some nights I really have a sleeping problem and last night was definitely one of those nights (which come far too often these days).  Got up and ate breakfast around 9 am then went back to bed for a couple of hours.  Had no trouble sleeping then.

I had my first experience today of ordering a food pickup on line.  It was much easier than I thought it would be, even paid online.  Before we got several pickups but had to wait and wait for someone to answer the phone.  We only had to wait a couple of minutes for someone to bring our order to the car.  Everything tasted so good.  I got a small sirloin steak (well done) and a loaded baked potato and have enough left for another meal tomorrow.  Longhorn Steakhouse has the best small brown loaves of bread.  I do love good bread.

Marilyne, next time we get a meal pickup, I'm going to try Outback and order Alice Springs Chicken.  If and when I do, I'll let you know if it is as good as I remember.

That was my big experience of the day.  Larry has had his head in a book and I've been talking to the TV and complaining about all the bad news.  Just hope and pray things start looking better.

We have a fast & furious snew this morning.  Yes, I meant to say SNEW.

The bayside is covered in fog.  The shore across the bay and the two Bay Bridges are hidden from my sight.  On this side, we have pelting rain, coming in on a slant.

On the front of the building, Snew.  Snew is my own word for it, and it means rain that is coming down as snow, but becoming water before it hits the ground.

This side, too, it is pelting and coming in on a slant.

Typical March.

I wake each day now feeling like a very disappointed little girl.  A 92 year-old little girl, if you will; but a sore-hearted little girl.

All of my life I have depended on the grown-ups to make things right.  But babies, some as yet to be born, some brand new for a few minutes or hours, and little children are dying.  And me, I am trapped on this planet, this world, to see the photos and hear the unbelievable news and feel a sob in my throat because these little souls will never see a tree, smell a flower, know the blue of an October sky.

Tell me again how we serve as sentinels of the sanctity of Life.  Tell me, and then hear me tell you the unvarnished truth:

We are killers.  We are squashers-out of Life.  There is no where to go to escape our barrenness of souls.

MarsGal

It is currently a sunny 17oF here this morning. The sunny part I like, not so much the temp.
Yesterday afternoon, after the snow stopped, I shoveled off the sidewalk. All that is left is to clean off the car.

The Great Lakes canal opening dates are Welland Canal, March 24 and Sault Ste. Marie, March 25.

And to think, MaryPage, that we will be taking all of it with us out into the Solar System and beyond. Another "cheery" thought that. I disagree somewhat with Darwin's "survival of the fittest" remarks. It seems to me it is more like survival of the nastiest or most brutal.

Marilyne

Our older daughter Shelley, age 63, had a heart problem yesterday and was admitted to the hospital.  Long story short, she has seen diagnosed with A-Fib, plus other issues as well.  She's had the auto-immune illness, Graves Disease, for about 12 years now, which causes serious heart and blood pressure problems.    She'll have to stay in the hospital, until they get her stabilized and on new medication, so we'll be driving over to the Central Valley today  - about 120 miles from where we live. The drive takes about two and a half hours.

As I've mentioned in the past, she lives with her autistic adult daughter,  Claire.  Claire did okay alone last night in their apartment, but another night would be chancey.  Anyone who is familiar with autism, will know what I mean.  A friend and neighbor has been checking on her, but I'm worried about her.  if Shelley has to stay in the hospital another night, we will bring Claire back here with us.

Sandy

I agree MOM!!

And it feels like this has sneaked up on us,
but it really hasn't...

The last few years have been hell for us.
Not the war hell like is going on now
in Ukraine, but the Hell of knowing that
we had and idiot for a President who thinks
only of himself,  all while praising Putin
who is  a demon President and has chosen to let
every know what a beast he really is.

My thoughts are with Ukraine,  but I
believe this is only the beginning.
More hell is going to move into Europe.

IMHO the end of a peaceful year is upon us.

Prayers for all
Peace

Marilyne, will be thinking of you on your drive to your daughter's.  I hope all goes well with your daughter and your granddaughter will be OK.  No matter how old we get, we always worry about our children.

We are seeing sunshine today and it is warmer after several cold and rainy days.  But the world news is still bad with little hope in sight.

I enjoy my iPad and computer but life was simpler before all this mass media.  Hope everyone is having an OK day.

🍀🍀🍀🍀HAPPY ST PATRICK'S DAY🍀🍀🍀🍀

My quick trip to visit my Dad was FANTASTIC🥰🥰🥰 My son took the best care of me getting there and back and we all enjoyed our time together.  It was FAST....left at 5AM SUNDAY Morning with daylight savings time change over going on.....and returned at 8AM on Monday. Whirlwind for sure, but a short visit beats out a NO VISIT!

Got home Monday in time to go to my pulmonologist appointment.  The doctor was wonderful.....very caring....not in a hurry at all.  She does not anticipate me having any serious issues at all, but wants me to do 4 tests that will rule out any problems at all.  I hope I pass them but if I do not at least I will know about them and get them taken care of‼️ Of course these tests are nearly a month down the road.

MARILYN, I am sorry to read the news about Shelley.  I do hope she has stablized now and is possibly home with Claire🙏🙏

So sad and upsetting to continue hearing such sad news from Ukraine.  I wish we could help them more without it sending Putin over the edge😡😡 How dare he kill all the innocent people in that country.  I am not old enough to have first hand knowledge and feeling of hate for Hitler.  That being said, I learned why he was such a terrible man.  Putin is someone I have known to not trust and now I have a personal reason to know that he IS INDEED a very hateful man.

I hope our Good Lord will help this country through these horrendous times......we all want to help them out and are doing this, but I wish the air strikes could have been avoided.  😱😱

Best of thoughts and luck to all today🍀🍀

Good Afternoon, Everyone from
the warmer and sunnier Rocky Coast
of Maine.

It is a new day and a new life.

Just last year I was hold up fearing that
I would catch the dreaded Covid.   But somehow,
I think that I am the only one in my
family that hasn't had it.

Fortunately they all caught theirs after
they had had all three Covid shots,  so
they did fine with it.       I either didn't get it
or what I did get was so mild that  I didn't even
know I had it.

Now that everyone seems to be letting up
and not wearing masks (except me,  who plans
on wearing them for a long time as I don't
need to get Covid or the flu or a bad head
and or chest cold...)

Mask wearing and
hand washing seem to be the best
way to prevent having to deal with
any of these issues.    (and staying home
and isolated still, of course)

And to top it all off,  that A-hole Putin is
having a breakdown and determined
to murder as many people as he can get
away with murdering.

He is wanting to
go out in a big historical way ,  because
other wise  he is just another  failed
dictator ...   what a coward.

And I can sit here on the Rocky Coast of
Maine in the middle or the Arts district
with a view of my city's center,  but when I
turn on the news,  all I can see is deadly and
gloomy for people in Europe who have to
live next to a murdering dictator.
Who continues to Murder and Dictate.

I am so fortunate.   My children are well
and close by my eldest daughter has
me right at the top of her list of
"must do's"  to "Take care of Mom"...
I am so blessed.

The rest of society which is not
as blessed as I am,  still have families
to take care of and parents to care
for and jobs ( if they still have them) to
go to..    So many single parent families
that are trying to survive after being sick
them selves and perhaps losing their jobs
and a chid or a parent who didn't survive
this horrible pandemic ....

I can't forget the  horrors that they
have been through,  nor the horrors
that we all might face again when
Putin launches World War 3.

You see,  this is all he can do to be
a big deal dictator is be known as the
man who started another world war,
with blessings from the idiot failed loser
Trump.

Imagine only having that
to be proud of ...

Ok,  I am done,  again.
And thanks for listening.
I don't expect anyone to agree with
me..

I just feel fortunate we
STILL live in A FREE SOCIETY where
we do not have to fear speaking our minds.

Blessings and good luck to everyone .
Stay safe and enjoy what  a good life
we have,  while we still have it.

It is sunny and suppose to be up into the
50's today.   Yeah !!!

Well, I agree with you, you Daffy Pumpkin!

I cannot figure out a way to save this world, so it will just have to live or die according to whichever Fate has in store for it.

I am certain we will not be the last life form running a planet who will fail in the task set them.  There are hundreds of millions of these in this galaxy alone, and hundreds of millions of galaxies.  I am pretty certain in my little grey cells that other top-of-the-heap life forms have failed to keep control of things, just on this planet alone, in the deep Past. I would very much have liked to have seen Mankind display the great good sense to find a way to put a stop to the deeply mentally ill who follow their very worst instincts regarding their fellow creatures.  We have shootups every day now.  Killers roam our streets and schools and houses of worship and shops with the aim to Kill as many as possible, yet scores of adults who are elected to take care of the rest of us refuse to enact laws to make it more difficult for these to obtain the means to fulfill their goals.  We know perfectly well that if folk don't learn the many lessons to be learned as they bumble their way through their lives, they are setting themselves up for failure of their very species.  I think it should be added to the oaths officials take that they will swear to uphold laws for the greater good and not to make or take any personal gains from their endeavors in the positions they are about to take on. Maybe if they can take no personal gain, they will employ more good sense and entertain fewer dreams of (dollars &) cents.  "They" are continually telling us Putin is the richest man in the world.  Okay, so they know a lot about him, and we have no power to check these "facts."  No one, though, no one at all seems to be able to come up with a way to stop this one maniac from carrying on with HIS shooting spree!
