Thanks, all. Shan is a little blister to try and hold long enough to see anything. Yesterday his was fairly quiet, remarkable for him. He is go a little a twice in the morning, but since then I haven't been able to catch him at the box and he still looked swollen. Today he is back to his feisty self, so no luck at getting a good look. He is not bleeding so that is an improvement, and I am glad to see that he is drinking . I ordered a case of urinary tract health cat food to see if he and Lucy will eat it. With Lucy, though, it is the kidneys that may go because of her thyroid condition. She is lasting longer than I feared for which I am grateful.

The cats are getting a new cat scratcher, a self-heating pad, and a pet blanket for the bed or couch. The scratcher comes sometime this afternoon. Can't wait to see their reaction. It looks like a cactus. My sister asked me if I ever buy anything for myself!

My next door neighbor is getting a new car this afternoon, but instead of trading the old one in at the dealership, she decided to try Carvana. They offered her a better price. The thing has zombie stickers all over it. That should strike someone's fancy if they leave them on when they put it up for sale.

It is a partly sunny 76o here now.

Mars - Good that Shan is full of energy this morning, so he's probably feeling better.   All the new items for the cats sound like fun, and hopefully will distract Shan from his misery!  I agree with your sister, and hope you buy yourself something for Spring or Easter!

My two skirts came yesterday.  I didn't mention that I ordered them from Amazon?  Not exactly high quality merchandise, but all I care about is fit and comfort.   One is definitely going back . . .  too big.  The other one fits okay, but the color is not what I was expecting.  I ordered blue, but it turned out to be a bright neon blue that practically glows in the dark!  I'll exchange it for a pale pastel blue.

Jean -  Sounds like we're about the same size.  I used to be 5'5", but have shrunk an inch, and now 5-4, or maybe even less.   I plan to look online today at the National Catalog you suggested. It might work for me too.

A good Maundy Thursday🙏

I am guilty of being a non poster and I apologize.  So many warnings on here and having issues finding my spot.  I read all of your posts and enjoy them so much‼️

Since I have posted my daddy had his 98th Birthday.  I wanted to be there with him so bad! It just could not be helped, but it still made me feel sad😩

I got through my tests at National Jewish Pulmonary Center. They would not do my CT scan with contrast because it was not in my records that I had a adverse reaction to the dye back in 2006.  Now I go tomorrow for the scan with no contrast‼️‼️  Most of the tests I did pretty well on, however I failed the sleep home study miserably and that opens up a new can of worms😩  The results at this time are that I continue with 1.5 liters of oxygen at night and 2 when I am walking etc.  I am to get a portable concentrator however there are non to be had due to Covid‼️‼️🤪🤪

I will meet with the sleep doctor next week to find out her suggestions for my issue.  It appears ANOTHER seep test but in the hospital with the ability to utilize the different CPAP machines that are available.  I know a LOT of people on CPAP....I just did not want to be one of them🤪🤪🤪🤪

MARILYN, I did not know about the fire at your Home Depot....wow, the pictures you shared, RICK, are something else.  Thank you.

MARSGAL, sad to read about your kitty having issues.  Glad he is feeling better and back to his feisty self.

JEAN, good news that your son-in-law will be getting his MRI and biopsies in Jacksonville.  I hope and pray he will get encouraging news.

BEVERLY,  I am sad to read about the news that your son dealing with cancer.  I pray the new tumors will prove not to more of the cancer.  Optimism is the best hope many can have😩 Hugs to you😩. So happy to read the twins have been down to visit you.  The pictures you have shared of them are precious.

MARYPAGE, I enjoyed reading your story again about the "marriage penalty", and how you said NO twice, but then a yes that led to a nice time in your life.  Sad that your time together could not have been much longer😩😩. Congratulations to your Emily.

My best to you all.

How lovely to hear from you, Jenny.  I can sense the frustration you try so valiantly to bury, and I cry inside: not for myself or only for you, but for US.  Our allotment of Full Freedom to come and to go, to be free of handicapping ailments, would seem to be gone.  The spirit that keeps us getting up and getting through these later days of our lives is Family: all Family.  We love 'em, and we want to hang around and see how they are faring.  I'm right in there with you, Dear Jenny!

It's a perfectly gorgeous day here on the bay.  My spirits look out at all this splendor and hum hymns of thankfulness for the beautiful planet we inhabit.  One feels compelled to add a P.S. to that swelling up of gratitude and wish that we, the dominate species here, could behave in such a way as to show our appreciation of both our environment and one another.

Good morning.

MaryPage - That is so true. For some of us, family is what keeps us going!

Jenny - Sorry you are going through so many ordeals. I know the feeling.  :( Right now it seems like the main thing I have to look forward to is a couple of root canals!

On the brighter side, in the next couple of months Lauri and Lisa will each be coming down for a visit. They are both a ray of sunshine in my life! Lauri is the grandmother of our twins and 9 month old Keani.

I don't think I mentioned that Michael is still in Vermont dealing with the apartment house he owns. One of the apartments has had to be completely re-done. The tenant went on vacation for two weeks during their coldest time, the boiler failed, pipes froze and the basement and apartment were flooded! Each apartment has its own basement and heating system. He's been doing a lot of the work himself. Hopefully he will get back to Florida soon.

I haven't been outside yet, but it looks like a beautiful day. We had a lot of rain yesterday.

Marilyn - I also need some new clothes! I don't wear skirts anymore. I have to wear what I consider "clunky" shoes and skirts don't go well with them! Mostly I wear capri pants (or what we used to call pedal pushers!  :) ) I can order from two of our local stores, Bealls and Belk, online so if they don't fit right, etc., Donna can return them for me.

Jean - I'm going to check out the National catalog online. I hadn't heard of that one before. How are things going with your son-in-law?  I'm continuing to pray for them.

Marilyne

Mary Page -  I like that your messages are so upbeat and positive.  You have a good attitude about the future of the World.  I'm remembering  that old book . . . "The Power of Positive Thinking", and   I might dig it it out of the storage boxes in my basement, and see if it makes any sense in today's world?  Nothing seems to make much sense anymore?

Jenny -  I'm so sorry you have so many health issues to contend with!  I'll be thinking about you today, and hoping that your CT scan will be okay, and also that you get a  C-pap machine the works for you.  Please keep us posted on the results of all of your tests?    Hope the kids are all doing well, and a belated Happy Birthday, to your Dad!

Beverly - I also like to wear "Peddle Pushers", in the warmer weather.  They look okay with all shoe styles.  I decided to send both skirts back to Amazon, because I saw one I like better, in the National catalog.  I wear mostly sandals and slip on shoes in the Summer, that look okay with a skirt.

Good that Lauri and Lisa will be coming soon, with their babies! Get your camera or phone ready for some new pictures!  I always look forward to seeing them in Photos Old and New!

MaryPage

Could someone please advise me as to how I can get into Photos and find Beverley's twins.  I have gotten into Photos previously, but cannot seem to remember how to do it Now!  Sob!

I have tried and tried, and now I have to give up.  Unless one of you will take pity on me.

Happy Easter morning to everyone looking in.   I'm remembering the old days of hiding Easter eggs, and the kids getting up early to hunt for them.  Good memories.
We had  Hot Cross buns for breakfast this morning,     Every year when I see them  in the grocery store or bakery,  I have to buy them!    Sometimes they're good, and sometimes disappointing.  Today was good!
They always remind me of this old  nursery rhyme

Hot cross buns, hot cross buns
One a penny, two a penny, hot cross buns
If you have no daughters, give them to your sons
One a penny, two a penny, Hot Cross buns

Nursery rhymes, have a soothing sing-song quality.  When you read them to little children,  it always seems to calm them down.   My kids loved them and I did too when I was a child.   This one will likely be running though my head all day long.   Hope you all have a nice Easter Day.

MaryPage

Marilynw, I sound like a complaining old woman, I know, but honestly, I do not believe anyone makes as good a roll of ANY kind or sort as they did from my childhood through my teenage years.

I claim citizenship in a very small town in the Shenandoah.  The population, when I walked to school while living with my grandmother while World War Two was racing to enfold us, was either 438 or 483.  It was on the WELCOME TO sign at our "city" limits, which were one of the first things I crossed when leaving our house for the trek to the schoolhouse which came just after the city limits ended on the other end of town.  BIG place, we were!  But my
memory is short of perfect re what the number actually was.
But now what that town is is more than ten times as populated!

Not only were all baked things better because of the real lard that was used (right from the October hog butchering, when the butchers came to your home and you started that day by sticking your fingers in your ears), dipping a tin cup into a humongous metal container of lard to get on with the roll-baking.

Almost every woman in town made rolls, but Miss Heath made the best.  I swear, she had a WHITE thumb!  Her plain, ordinary old dinner rolls were delicious even when you'd stolen one out of the dozen she'd wrapped in a dishtowel and given you to take home to your grandmother (Oh, My Dear,I am not talking about ME here!  Heaven Forbid! This was some Other kid I heard about!))  You could eat that roll, sans butter or jam or ANYthing, and find all the Joy of real Angel Food!  I swear!

And yes, sigh!  That was me.

Real lard makes all things tastier.

My favorites are rum rolls. OMG!  Even the church down the street where they swore to a lifetime of temperance had those very same individuals buying these up within the first five minutes of any bake sale.

They claim all the alcoholic spirits are cooked out before you get them.  Hmmmm?  I don't claim to be any kind or sort of expert regarding That!

Beverly

Happy Easter Everyone!

Late this afternoon I went out with Donna and Mike for an early dinner. We tried to beat the 5:00 crowd and succeeded! It was very warm today and storm clouds threatened but no rain.

Michael called tonight and we had a loooooong conversation. I always feel upbeat after conversations with my children.

Today was my granddaughter Brynn's 31st birthday. She's the Mom of our twins. Lauri spent the week-end with her along with my granddaughter Shea and little Keani. She took a lot of photos and sent them on my I-Phone.

MaryPage - I agree that baked goods were better when we used lard. Than after lard came Crisco, which also did a pretty good job!

Time for me to get some sleep. I didn't get much last night.

so_P_bubble

Marilyn, you brought back a memory with that song!
I was having surgery in US as a child. At the time my English was rudimentary. To occupy me, a doctor lent me a record player and one record: Hot cross buns. I had never heard of hot cross buns and didn't know what they were. So my association, trying to understand, was: why would buns (bunnies?)be unhappy, because they were hot? LOL

BELATED  H A P P Y  🐣  EASTER 🐥 AND PASSOVER WISHES TO ALL

We enjoyed a beautiful day and a wonderful Easter meal with our son and the children.  We are so blessed to have this family in our lives🙏🙏. Yesterday was 10 months since our Beautiful Michele passed away😩🙏

All of the kind words to me regarding my latest medic@l issues I am dealing with sure make me feel blessed to have the wonderful support f you all.  I thank you from the bottom of my heart🥰🥰 MARYPAGE, yours in particular had me crying joyful tears, followed by my laughing and crying at the same time after reading BEVERLY's comment, "all I have to look forward to is getting two root canal's"‼️‼️  Oh my, our lives take such turns

We will be with the grands again the next two weeks as Dr. Dave has to travel more.  We feel privileged to be able to help him out.  We just hope our Ggod Lord will give s the strength to do our best job🤪🤪. The children are pretty self sufficient, but getting them up and moving in the morning and driving them to school is definitely needed.  Dave always plans easier meals and buys everything so even getting dinner ready is as easy as it can possibly be.  He is a wonderful and extremely thought dad/son. 🥰🥰

Our Boston Family are vacationing in Washington DC this week.  Sadly, the youngest grandson , 12 yo, managed to twist his ankle in his soccer game Saturday and has a hairline fracture in gis growth plate and is walking with a boot🤪🤪 Not a good time for this as we all know the walking that will be required‼️

My best wishes for a wonderful day to ALL.

Good Afternoon,

Beverly and Marilyne, I understand about the shoes/skirts issue!  I haven't had on a skirt since I had to start wearing these  :tickedoff:  braces.  Long slacks/jeans kinda sorta hide them but not entirely.

MaryPage, I remember lard - and also the can of collected bacon grease that was always available for seasoning green beans, etc.  I used to love fast food burgers and French Fries - until everyone started making them "healthy".  There used to be a "diner" here that still made them the old way - but they've gone out of business.

A beautiful large butterfly was flitting around the holly tree as I was eating lunch.  It was black with blue at the base of its wings.  Didn't think I could zoom in enough to take a picture from the window and didn't have on the right shoes to try and go out to the tree.  So I hope it comes back.

Our family gathering was an early dinner on Saturday.  Family brought ham, scalloped potatoes, fresh green beans, carrots, and hot rolls.  I made the favorite chocolate dessert and a dump cake with apple pie filling and butter pecan cake mix.

Miss Emily and Sir Carson brought their "Plus Ones" and Emily used FaceTime to get Miss Ellen on her phone so she could "be" in the family pictures.  Lots of good chatter, good food and good fun.

Speaking of the "favorite chocolate dessert".  Neighbor had brought me some back copies of "Southern Living" magazine.
There was an article in the August 2021 issue about the author's "Mamaw Ouida" from Mississippi that included the exact same recipe as I got from OUR Mamaw Ouida who was also from Mississippi!!!  The dessert picture looked a lot better than mine ever does!
(Article starts on page 104 - if anyone has the magazine and wants to look.)

Sunny but chilly in central Oklahoma.

Hope Everyone had a Blessed Easter.

CallieOK

Yes, it is!  Thanks, Patricia.

Recipe I have says "makes a 9" pie".  Since I usually have to make a double recipe, I do use a glass baking dish. However, I make a graham cracker crust and leave out the nuts (family's preference).  I think finely chopped nuts could be sprinkled on the top.  I also use Chocolate Fudge instant pudding mix and have never thought to drizzle top with chocolate syrup.

patricia19

Callie, I loved the recipe and posted it in our recipe database. I included your notes.

I am SO HAPPY to post something positive today.....

My sleep doctor appointment went better than I could have ever hoped for ..... I am going to get a portable oxygen concentrator as soon as they have one available.

I will not be doing a in hospital sleep study as told last week, rather my Doc will have me do one at home in six weeks that will just monitor my oxygen saturations.

I eill return to see the sleep doctor in two months for a re-evaluation.  I hope to be able to tell her I am doing GREAT and put this all behind me‼️

YIPPIE... HAPPY HAPPY🥰.

Today I had PT and my therapist said she noticed a lot of improvement in my shoulder.  I showed her how I can lift it to the side and forward with the support of the table and my bed at home.  She was so excited.....and I was too.  Do you suppose I have entered the turning point FINALLY?  I sure hope so🥰🙏🥰

Callie - Your Easter sounds like an old fashioned holiday,   like back in the  day,  when everyone came to dinner,  and the young ones brought their significant others.  so nice that Miss Ellen joined you, via FaceTime.     I had forgotten about your braces, and  can understand that a skirt would not be comfortable for you.   I ended up sending back, the two that I chose.  I'll keep looking, in hopes of finding one in a color I like.

Jenny - It looks like things are starting to look good, as far as your shoulder is concerned, and also your oxygen/c-pap devices. You sounded so worn out in your last message, but this one sounds hopeful!  I think you've finally turned the corner!

MarsGal

That's great news Jenny. Sounds like things are looking up finally.

I am terrorizing myself thinking about how I am going to keep me and the cats from stressing too much while the guys are redoing the kitchen and where the heck I am going to stash all the stuff in the kitchen in my other rooms and still have room to  move. I've added a dishwasher and garbage disposal to the makeover.

Marilyne

Update on the huge fire that totally destroyed a  Home Depot,  in San Jose last week.  A suspect was arrested yesterday, and booked for arson.    Apparently he has a long rap sheet of arrests locally for drug offences, theft, et al.    So much crime here in California.  I don't see how it will ever end, unless things change drastically, as to prosecution and incarceration.  Perps don't serve time anymore in this State.  It's a catch, book and release system now.  As a result,  crime is only getting worse every day, and citizens are beginning to accept it as a new way of life.

FlaJean

So good to hear you so upbeat, Jenny.  Let's hope for sure that you have turned the corner.

Marsgal, I don't envy you going through the work in your kitchen, but I'm sure you'll be glad you did when it is finished.

We've been having several all night storms and rains and wishing we could send some of it to Marilyne in Calif.  it was sunny here but now overcast.

Got a small roast pork yesterday and will put it in the oven for some pulled  pork sandwiches later today.  Haven't found any eating place in Florida who knows how to prepare a good pork barbque sandwich.

Have a good day everyone.

MaryPage

Jean, I am with you on that subject.  Chip and I have sussed out every barbecue place within miles of Annapolis, and we have a favorite over on Route 214, also known as Central Avenue.  They know how to do it.  I have sworn for simply years now that if they start your order by sticking a couple of slices of white sandwich bread on the side of the plate they are holding, they know their barbecue.  For those not in the know, it is not the sandwich bread that matters.  It is the symbol it shows.  Yep, these cooks were raised on the real thing.  It is sort of a guarantee, if you will.

I guess, Jean, you are going to have something there that suits your sensitivities as to barbecue.  The only alternative open to you would be to take a speedy run up to North Carolina.  They are the kings and queens and all other royalty of perfect barbecue.

Bad Jean! You have made my mouth water!

Me, I like a spoonful of creamy coleslaw on my sandwich.  Coleslaw like Grandma used to make.  The cook at Palate Pleasers does that to perfection!  And the barbecue shack Chip & I love makes beans the very best way:  they cook about six or eight varieties all thrown in together!  The mere thought of these delicacies is doing me in, Jean!

Beverly

Jenny - So glad things are looking up for you! Not having to do the hospital overnight breathing test must be a relief. I have a hard time sleeping as it is so can't imagine sleeping in that environment.

Mars Gal - What will you do with the cats while the work is being done? My cats used to freak out whenever furniture, etc. got moved around. Hope the makeover won't take too long.

Callie - I love homemade scalloped potatoes and haven't had any for a long time. I put small chunks of ham in them sometimes. With Chape I needed to trim every bit of fat off the ham.  :) It was the same with most meats. Your butterfly sounds like some we have here. I don't see the big blue and black ones often.

Marilyn - I hadn't heard the fire was arson. I hope they keep him incarcerated this time! Unfortunately, catch and release is happening in cities all over the country. What color/type of skirt are you looking for?

Jean - I like a good pulled pork sandwich. What do you use to make yours? (other than pork!)

MaryPage - I like coleslaw but on the side.

MaryPage

Beverly, I have had that same aversion Chape had, all of my life.  My family was upset that I was determined from the youngest age not to touch a piece of meat on my plate, ANY type or kind of meat, if it had so much as a bit of fat or gristle on or in it.  I do not remember any type of onset to this behavior, although I do know that I was, and still am, like that.  The fact is, if someone tried, when I was a child, to get me to eat such meat, I would gag.  And it was not done purposefully.  I have always been curious as to why my family members could chomp away happily on fat, but I could not without shuddering and gagging.  Even so much as a thread of fat in the center of a slice of beef or ham or whatever will meet a high level of resistance from my bodily being.  I did not like the family confrontations, and I still wonder what caused me to be like that.  Did Chape ever offer an explanation of any sort?
