Nothing much from this part of the world, either. Tomorrow should be lovely for midSeptember around here - highs in the low 80s, no rain, and low humidity.

Margaret's had a bad cold (negative for Covid), but is still going to take me to my hair cut/mani/pedi appointment tomorrow.  :D

Happy almost-Fall to all the Buddies!

Mary...enjoy that "beauty" day out with Margaret.  I got my hair cut yesterday and have had to let the pedi slide until the ortho gives the OK.

We're in the "is it summer or fall" weather cycle...this morning is long pants...a first since probably May...but I may go shorter by the end of the day.   :2funny:

Ankle is slowly progressing...I've not had to use the walkers, but I do take the cane when I'm out for groceries, etc.  We have a very rainy weekend forecast, so that'll be a good time for me to drag up some fall decorations from the basement.

Stay safe and healthy,

jane

Lots of change coming to the UK this morning with the passing of Queen Elizabeth II.

I had an appt. this morning with my oncologist . All was okay but my breathing is giving me fits .  I was out of breath when checking in & my blood oxygen was lower & heart rate was higher .  The doctor is scheduling me for a CT scan .  I have a portable oxygen machine & she said to not hesitate to use it .

jane

Alpiner....I hope the oxygen you have available to you can help you breathe easier.  Ray had a portable unit, too, but he needed more oxygen than it could provide, so we had the big "tubes" delivered every week and used two concentrators here...one downstairs and one up stairs so I could switch the tubing between the two when we went up for bed.  I hope you're not experiencing rolling blackouts or have a generator at home.

So far the tropical storm hasn't gotten here .  I need to do grocery shopping today & plan to leave early so I can get back home  early .

jane

Alpiner...we're supposed to get a lot of rain tomorrow, so, I, too, got out early to the grocery and FarmFleet for birdseed.

The wind has really picked up and the temps have fallen to 83 from the low 90s.

Stay safe!

Good morning to all...pretty quite in my small space...it has cooled down some...we don't usually get a cold front till last Oct...I had Dr Appt yesterday..he changed my B/P med again...seems it's hard to get one that keeps it in a good range...hope everyone is well and staying safe...have a great weekend

When I arrived home yesterday from grocery shopping my husband told  me  a 70ft.  Torrey Pine tree had fallen over about 10:00 a.m.   It was along our driveway & I didn't see it !

Hi Gals. The passing of Queen Elizabeth is truly the end of an era. I remember her coronation. She seemed to be a great leader for the UK.

Not much going on here either. Light rain this morning with more predicted later. I'm not going anywhere until dinner, so no problem for me.

Melanie's infusion was changed to Sept 19th so that's good. Her energy is about back to normal now and they left yesterday for Chicago & the wedding and a get-together with Lori.

I made reservations for my trip to Lori's and Jocelyne's for Oct. 21. I can't wait. John decided not to go because it was so expensive.

I got all the pet pictures in the newsletter this week. Quite a hassle to get them all placed right and with the captions. So the 1st page is finished. I have an article written for the 2nd page too, but will have to wait for the activity pics and new residents list till a little later.

Jane, glad your ankle is improving.

Alpiner, I hope you get rain but not floods or mudslides.

Darlene, how's your son?

Mary, hope you don't catch Margaret's cold.

That's about all I can think of of interest here. Just doing laundry today.
Sharon

maryz

alpiner, sorry about the loss of your tree. And such a big one, too.

Darlene, glad you're getting a coolness break.

Sharon, good to hear some good news about Melanie. I know you'll enjoy your trip next month.

Like all of us, I'm sure, I've been watching a lot of the coverage about the Queen. Such a lovely lady she was. And to go so quickly (at least as far as we know). We'll keep watching and sending good wishes to the new King.

It's a real fall day here today....temps in 60s and rainy.  I got up early and went down to Farmers' Market for banana bread with nuts.  NO luck.  Only the kind without nuts, so I'll have to try next Sat.

The Baby Girl the niece and nephew were expecting to be Grandchild #2 arrived about 1:00 today.  Alex went into labor about 4:00am...went to hospital about 8:00 and baby arrived 5 hours later.  Patricia's mother and dad aren't well...Dad's in the hospital in Kalispell with sepsis, pneumonia, had a mild heart attack, UTI, etc.  She just called to say she's flying out tomorrow. Those of us who've been through this stress with our own parents understand her stress level.

Stay safe and healthy,

jane

Good morning..Sharon...my son..Johnny is tolerating the chemo pill well..so far labs been good..thanks for asking and appreciate continued prayers..ALPINER sorry you lost a tree...I love trees in the yard...I have lost a couple also...Jane glad you are able to get around with just a cane...I have to be careful...seem to be so clumbsy sometimes...have a great blessed Sunday...I too was saddened by The Queens passing...awesome lady

Good morning.  Everyone has so much going on in their lives and such warm temperatures compared to here. We have cloudy and 35, and I have another day of legal and seasonal paperwork, with one related appointment Monday and a last on the 19th.

Last week's cold spell and days of rain brought out the orange colors in the greenery, and I expect the other colors to follow soon.

jane

Good Morning, Patricia and Darlene.

It's a delightful 60 this morning...and  I went out and walked around the yard a bit.

So wonderful to hear Johnny is doing well with the chemo pill.  My neighbor thought that's what he could do...but oncologist said no...so he goes for the infustion every three weeks.  He seems to be handling that well.
His melanoma has spread from his head to his neck, at least.

Take care and stay safe.  Off to watch football this afternoon.

This evening we had just gotten home from Sunday evening church service & I was removing my hearing aids when I dropped one . I heard it hit my wood dresser ,  we couldn't find it & thought we look for it in the morning .  Then I looked at the front to the dresser & there it was hanging on one of the ornate drawer pulls !   The dresser is a victorian oak dresser which had been my husband's grandmother's .  I learned some thing from this .  I will sit on the bed from now on when removing the hearing aids !!

Good morning; they say the latest cold spell has moved east and our overnight low rose from yesterday's 35 to this morning's 47. However, in an arctic August, the rains will return. Radar shows it all around us with the bulk to the northwest.

Brown colors have joined the intensifying orange colors in our outside greenery with the orange carnations pulled across the street and their beds winterized. With the last two record-breaking winters in mind, everyone is preparing for more broken records.

Claire and her neighbors are busy preparing for winter, and most of the nearby grounds have been cleared, raked, and turned over. Dora, Alan, and others in the foothills are also finishing their winter grounds preparation. It's as if everyone knows that the shoe will drop, and they want to be ready for it this time.

Nothing newsworthy here other than I'm finishing a round of inspections, meetings, and paperwork. Monday's appointment on the 19th and two forms are waiting to finish, and I can officially end this summer.

jane

Alpiner...great the hearing aid was hanging on your dresser drawer.   ;)

Patricia...leaves are changing slowly here and some trees are slowly dropping their leaves.  It's pleasantly cool...and today has been a bit of a drippy morning...comes and goes.  With a purse and cane, I can't also manage an umbrella...so I got a bit damp...but SURPRISE! I didn't melt!! :D

My key fob for the car suddenly started giving me strange messages.
It wouldn't open the doors unless I pressed the unlock, and the car said no remote when I tried to start it, but it did start.  I stopped in the Chevy/Buick/GMC dealer ship and a young man in service dept switched the battery for a new one...and it works perfectly now.  I didn't want to be caught somewhere where the doors wouldn't open or the car wouldn't start.

After my grocery run to WalMart, I brought that stuff home and went back downtown for lunch.  Home now to relax, watch some News programs and read.

Stay safe and healthy,

jane

I got a call today about an appt. with a pulmonary dr. & will be seeing him next week .

jane

Alpiner...good news you can see the pulmonologist so quickly.  He'll have good ideas for you to ease your breathing problems, I'm sure.

Nice, cool day here.  Getting into the 40s overnight.  Fall is definitely here.

jane

maryz

alpiner, let us know how the visit with the pulmonologist goes. I was glad I went to see one about 5 years ago. I was diagnosed with "mild to moderate COPD". I had been a smoker, but had quit in the early 1980s, so it can happen even if you smoked and quit a long time ago. Good luck.

All going well here. We're having a touch a fall, too. No colors on the trees yet, but temps were in the 50s last night. We're back to the upper 80s by the end of the week, so summer isn't over for us yet.

My breathing problem goes back to when I wa in the 3rd grade, I fell when I was playing on the rings (rings suspended on a chain ).  My parents were poor & I wasn't taken for a check up .  The fall caused my back to be crooked & I have scoliosis now .  My right ribs are pinching my lung & making it smaller .

jane

YIKES! Alpiner...hope the pulmonologist can help you breathe easier.

One of those early fall days where it's sweatshirt and pants weather on arising...49...and shorts and tee shirt by 11:00.  I even took this wonky ankle out for a very short walk this morning.

Stay safe and healthy,

jane

MaryPage

Same with me, Mary.  I was always a light smoker:  no more than half of a pack a day, EVer.  Quit when I was pregnant, and when the mood struck me.  Quit forever in 1983.  Yet I have C.O.P.D.  I have oxygen on hand all the time now.

I find that when I get in a conversation with  the younger generations, and right now, in my daily world, there is no other kind or sort of generation, and I try to explain to them that EVERYone smoked beck in those days, I really feel they don't believe me.  They just cannot relate to such a statement, and they think me more than a little tetched in the head.

Now THERE's an old expression for you!

jane

MaryPage...BUT, you're 100% right.
TV had commercials with doctors smoking; it was in every movie and glamor photo.  My neighbor, a retired MD, said he smoked so much there was a lighted cig in EVERYONE of his exam rooms.  He added, "I don't know how my patients stood it."  I remember smoking in a hospital room after my appendicitis was removed.  One of the "not so good" old days.   :idiot2:

Hi Gals, I was a light smoker from college on but quit when the kids were small then restarted when I went back to teaching and finally quit in 95. I don't have any lung problems, at least yet--knock on wood.

It is wonderful weather here this week! Very cool in the morning and about 80 in the afternoon. Have taken a walk the past 2 days. Really no news here. Not much going on.

Oh, one piece of good news, the tree trimmers came and trimmed thee heck out of the trash tree that is right by out entry. It sheds bark, flowers, leaves, and berries that all get tracked into the house! I've been trying to get it cut down for 2 years, but the most they would do was trim it dramatically. It looks so much better. I don't know what kind of tree it is, maybe a variety of crepe myrtle, but I've never seen one with berries or shagbark. I definitely did a happy dance when I saw the men with their saws.

Darlene, glad your son is able take oral chemo and doing ok on it.

I'm worried about the side effects of Mel's new drug, but if it does the job, hopefully it will be worth it.

Jane, glad you are able to get out and walk a bit. I haven't gotten any winter clothes out yet but have put on some long-sleeved tops.

Hi Mary & Mary Page.

Found out today that we will have a clinic soon for boosters and flu shot. Definitely want to get them before I go north.

All for now. Enjoy the cooler weather.  Sharon

Hi back 'atcha, Shirley.

I am over the moon this morning.  Daughter Becky has emailed me from Kansas City, Missouri that my great grandson, Simon Whitty, is a national semi-finalist in the merit awards, or whatever it is they are called.  Becky is a retired teacher, and understands these things.  I do not, but she tells me it is a really big deal.  Please excuse me for being puffed up and insufferable today.

jane

Morning, Sharon and MaryPage...Congrats to Simon!

 Nothing exciting here either...nice day.

Stay safe and healthy,
jane

maryz

Congrats to Simon, MaryPage. My daughter, Margaret, was a National Merit Semi-Finalist in the 1970s, and it is a big deal It definitely helps with scholarship applications.

Glad you got your trees trimmed, Sharon. We have our flu shots scheduled, too. 3 October, I think.

Our cool weather was just a tantalizer. We're to be back in the mid90s into next week. I think the first day of fall is currently predicted to be 95. Yuck!
