From December through January, we've managed with icy surroundings and little to no snow. Several times we've been promised snow, and each time it was a no-show, and the ice and cold continued. Last night was supposed to be three to five inches, and it went somewhere but not here, so the slips and slides continue.

I'm still trying to get things fixed since Google finally let me out of their dungeon.  (I hope).

It's a cool 6 degrees here, but I got out for a haircut and to the P.O.

Stay safe!

Jane

maryz

Glad you're getting OK with Google, jane. And are getting out at +6*. I got out at a "balmy", cloudy 55*.  Two doctor's appointments. Regular checkup with cardiologist (all OK - come back in 3 months), and a post-hospital visit to a pulmonologist (expected "mild COPD" diagnosis - no return appointment needed).  All good for me.

AH, Mary....Your appts are my favorite kind...no change...come back if you have a problem.

It was a verrry crisp -21 when I awoke this morning, but it's warming {hahahaha} to a -9.
'tis a very good day to stay inside and back in my nice warm house.

Nothing exciting here aside from the cold air.

Stay safe and healthy,

jane

We've had no real snow but lots of ice for most of January. This is despite numerous doomsday snow forecasts and warnings of violent clashing storms of highs and low pressures. Through all of this, we had frigid temperatures, clear skies, and perhaps 0.1 inches of snow.

Yesterday was the latest doomsday forecast of a two-day snow of five to seven inches. It did warm up into the plus twenties and gave us cloudy skies to hold the warmth in, but only 0.4 inches of snow.

And February, normally our coldest month is now forecast to remain in the teens and twenties and to snow almost every day. I'm going to be digging out my most arctic gear.

Tomereader1

We are still in the mid-20's with the ground and streets covered in sleet and freezing rain. (couldn't locate any snow in my accumulations. I know that's warm for most of you, but here in Texas, it's almost a blizzard.  Here in N.E. Texas, most schools closed, along with a lot of businesses. Personally, I am walking around here with several layers of clothes on, heat turned up, and decisions to be made whether I'm going to read or binge some more TV.  If I go in for a nap, and a book, I will get the nap whether I'm ready or not.  LIkewise, if I sit on the couch and watch TV, I fall asleep quickly. One way or another, I'm bound to catch up on some sleep!  Y'all stay warm, stay in or stay safe, however that works for each of you.!

maryz

Tomereader, where in NE Texas are you?  My parents were born and raised in Bonham, and an aunt & uncle lived in Hughes Springs during and right after WW2.

And Happy Feb. 1!

Tome...I heard about the ice problem in the Dallas_FW area.  I hate ice...absolutely no control if driving or walking!

Patricia...the arctic cold we've been having is suppose to end this weekend.

Mary...good to see your smiling face this morning.

I did get my lazy body out for my prescriptions and then to two grocery stores looking for the thin buns.  They used to be everywhere, but are now hard to find here.

Nothing new here.  Afternoon for watching Nicolle Wallace and reading.

Time to catch up with my checkbook for Feb.1

Stay safe and healthy,

jane

Jane, they keep pushing back the dates for this huge snowstorm that has had multiple false start dates. Now they are saying Thursday into Friday. It's dangerous out there presently attempting to walk or drive on that ice.

Tomereader1

MaryZ, I'm in Dallas.  It has been a real trial for anyone, especially the 18 wheeler drivers.  There are so many jack-knifed, plus some stalled 3 abreast, and only way around is if there is a partially thawed lane.  There were some Jeep club members yesterday hitching up to each other and pulling the 18 wheelers up the slope or where ever they were stopped.

It is still 28 degrees. A lot of the sleet that was on the sidewalk or porches has melted a little, but is still a skating rink out there.  Now that some has thawed, it is freezing over again.  They are still looking for more freezing rain.  Hope they miss that forecast.  I need to get to the store!

Stay warm and be safe!

Jane, I'm a Wallace fan as well and all.  I think she's Great!

Oh, Tomereader: I had not picked up that you were from Big D!  My 2nd husband (we were married for 34 years before he died) was from there, and I spent a lot of time there.  David's parents lived on Bryn Mawr Avenue in Highland Park.  David went to St. Mark's and SMU.  I think I got those items right.  I seem to disremember just about every little detail these days!  Anyway, my Dad was born in San Antonio. By mistake, as he always said.  His Dad was an Army doctor, and stationed there at the time.  My family are actually Virginians, and there is family lore that says Daddy was three when some gentleman called him a Texan and Daddy drew himself up as tall and straight as he could and said: "Suh, Ah'm uh Virginian!"  He had never, as yet, stepped foot in our blessed state!

I am also descended from some Texans from Sherman, surname Hare.  I understand one of them was the or one of the first congressmen from Texas.  Hare had the good sense to marry a Virginia gal named Rector (we have a Rectortown).  My great grandfather was General Luther Rector Hare, a Texan.  A book was written about his time with General Custer.  I was raised with the details of what we did to the Native American tribes, so the current ups & downs as to whether or not those facts should be taught bothers me not at all.  Truth will always out, we used to say!

SharonE

Hi Gals. Sorry I've been AWOL for a while. No excuse really.  I've been exercising at the gym 3 days a week and playing bridge all of 2 afternoons a week and reading and messing with the computer. Tomorrow, I need to get started on the March issue.

John's computer quit working Fri and I couldn't get it to turn on either, so he took it to computer guy we use and it had a frayed cord! He ordered a new one and it came in but too late to pick it up until tomorrow. So he missed 2 or 3 days of bridge. That doesn't make him a happy camper, but IU beat Purdue yesterday in basketball, so that made him happy.

I had a fall Friday night trying to pick a book up off the floor in the entry. Apparently my stance wasn't stable and I just kept going when I bent over and ended up flat on the floor and hit my head hard on the closet door! So yesterday I woke up with a black eye! I felt so dumb, but I was hurrying as usual and that's not good.

Melanie got bad news from her CT and MRI. The chemo is not working and the tumor is growing again. After a week, the radiologist/oncologist said he felt she could have more radiation--10 sessions plus he found an oral chemo he thought might work, but things don't look very good. Needless to say that has raised our stress level pretty high.

I called my granddaughter-in-law Tues to wish her a happy birthday and had the bonus of hearing little Ceci shouting "Hi", ever 2 mins and then Bye when we were finished talking. Also Hugs. So sweet! She's 18 mos now.

Patricia, I hope you get snow, if that's what you want. Not me. Your temps are beyond my comprehension. The NE really got a frozen weekend too.

Mary, so glad you're doing better. Stay warm. Good on the Dr's reports too.

Darlene, sending hugs to help you get through those special days without your hubby--also to others in the same boat.

Jane, I have been throwing birdseed on my balcony this winter,
and you would be surprised at the variety of birds I get.

Stay warm & safe.  Sharon

patricia19

Sharon, it has to warm up to snow and besides helping to melt the Ice, it also allows traction on the ice.

Cottoncandy

Good morning...it's finally warming up here in my space....Sharon that's good you are going to the gym..due to weather and company I have not walked in 2 weeks..planning on starting back today...sorry about Melanie reports...praying for her...yes it's hard to deal with losing your spouse...every year about the day of his passing..I miss him so much..but God was good...our anniversary was Jan 17 and he passed on the 20th....life goes on....HiJane and all reading....have a great week

maryz

:balloons: :balloons: HAPPY VALENTINE's DAY!!   :balloons:  :balloons:

I've been doing nothing, so nothing to write about....except for doing the dreaded income tax paper gathering.  I think I'm finished with that now and ready for the accountant in March.  I HATE doing taxes, but it's so much better since we retired.  Easier now, too, that I consolidated a lot of separate issues into one account.

I am consumed by the Alex Murdaugh murder trial in S.C. [I watch it live on YouTube on my Ipad] What a guy...stole money from just about everyone for years, it seems and may have murdered his wife and younger son.

We're to have some dreary days beginning today with no sun and rain.

Has anyone heard from Marilyn?

Stay safe and healthy.

jane

maryz

Nothing new going on here, either. All I do for my taxes is keep notices in an envelope to send to the account. I've never actually done any of it myself - just collect paper and hope it's all the right stuff ... then pay the bill.  ;D

Same here, dreary icy darkness and basic chores each day. I did receive some nice valentine's messages and email cards from friends, even one from a friend's Doberman to my cat! Hope your days are going well and yes, I also farm out my taxes.

alpiner1

It is a rainy Valentines Day  but we are going to a Mexican fast food restaurant for lunch .  Its "Taco Tuesday !!

Cottoncandy

Happy Valentines everyone...I'm going to a banquet tonight at my church....it's always very nice....hope everyone looking in is. Having a great day.....

SharonE

Hi everyone. I hope you all had a good Valentine's Day. The center here has a lovely valentine luncheon for the couples who sign up for it. Beautiful decs, champagne, and excellent meal. We've attended the past 2 years.

This afternoon, I'm going over for a birthday party for a church member who turns 100 today! I can't even fathom that and there are 3 or 4 cententarians here!

I've had phenomenal bridge the past 2 times I've played. Sat, I even bid and made a small slam.

Other than those things, not much going on. Oh I did have a dental appt yesterday. Routine. All was well.

I'm waiting to hear from Melanie about the echogram she had Monday. Other than that no news on her.

The kids had a wonderful time in New Orleans last weekend, but I haven't heard the details yet.

No other news here. We've been having up and down temps. To be 75 today, 55 tomorroW, 60's next week.

I hope you are all warming up. The cherry trees are in bloom and there are daffodils out too. Now watch us have a deep freeze.

Stay well. Sharon

patricia19

I'll have the deep freeze for you as it's minus twenty here. February is always our coldest month with March warming us up and Easter normally brings in Spring

jane

Hi, Buddies!

Nothing new here....well, we're getting a new layer of snow! Temps in 20s...and our old snow was almost all gone... :2funny:

I haven't done much except the usual...laundry, and bookkeeping my checking account.  AND watching the Murdaugh murder trial in SC.

Take care and stay healthy...and good thoughts for Darlene's son and Sherry's daughter in their cancer fights.

Nothing new on this Saturday morning.  Blue sky, chilly temps, but no more snow.

I went to grocery store for one item...came back with 3 bags.  Someone must have been sneaking in things! :2funny:  :2funny:

Quiet weekend here and Monday, too.

Stay safe and healthy,
