Happy Birthday, Darlene!

Welcome to Tennessee weather.  We spent 45 minutes in the hall on Wednesday night because of tornado warnings, after a high of 74*. Thursday morning, the weather was clear and 21*.  Today (Friday), the high was near 60*.  Sighhhhhhhh![/b

p.s.  Sorry, got the days wrong - tornado warnings were on Thursday, etc.]

jane, I'd never heard of the trial you are talking about, but today, it's on live on all the news stations.  ?????

More crazy weather here - it was 80* yesterday, breaking a record set in 1897.  And we may break another heat record today. Then back in the more-normal mid50s tomorrow.  ;D

Here in southern California it has been cold , rainy &  hail .  In our town it was 39 F this morning .

Well, Mary; I am actually wishing I had never heard of the Murdaugh trial, or the man, or the murders & money problems.  Above all, I would rather see the National news nightly begin with what is going on that affects our nation and the world.  This is all about a man I never ever heard about previously and dearly hope to stop hearing about.

Good Evening, Babes.

We had an ice storm and then the temp was 2 degrees this morning....so no melting.  My driveway is like an ice rink.  However, temps to warm tomorrow and Sunday and then rain on Monday.  I'll let that "un-ice" my driveway.  The walk is fine, but then later tonight, we got snow, so that's covered the walks again.

Nothing else new here.  Hope you're all safe and healthy,

Today in the live chat along with the live streaming of the Murdaugh trial, there were 80,000  people in the live chat.  It went so fast, it was impossible to keep up.

Well, I haven't watched one single minute of it, only a brief, live capture, inserted in my 5:00 news program from yesterday when he took the stand. And I kept wondering when lightning was going to strike! (I'm guessing he is blaming the murders of his family members on an unidentified Perp?)

I had DVR'd almost all of PBS programming for Black History Month, and spent my time,  worthily, (IMO), watching these well-done documentaries.

That trial must really have grabbed the interest of the posters in SL's Library forum, as so few relatable posts to that Forum showed this week.  I thought the mighty "servers" had gone down! Have a good weekend everyone, especially those in the areas where blizzards are predicted, or have already occurred!

MaryPage

Tomereader, I could not get away from it!  It was the FIRST thing they covered on World News Tonight on ABC and then in the next half hour of World News on NBC.  As far as I'm concerned, this is a South Carolina story, and we have shootings (he shot his wife & son to death) all over this country ALL the time.

jane

Good almost afternoon MaryPage and Tomereader and all the others here.

I think the attraction to the trial is a man who stole so much for so long and was finally caught.  Estimated theft of 10 million, but I think it was actually more.  So, for me, it's a "high and mighty and arrogant person of privilege and special treatment" got caught, finally.  Tomereader...of course, it was someone else [who literally blew the brains out of his son and shot his wife with 5 shots from what is described as a type of AR15...the last shot to the back of her head].  His present story is it was someone from social media who said such vile things about his son.  {I don't buy that either.}  I'm not sure ol' Alec ...they pronounce it "Ellic" had the guts to shoot them.  He didn't have the guts to kill himself.  I still think he was dealing the drugs.  People who seem to know about these drugs say NOBODY would survive taking that amount of oxy, etc.

So...things here in Iowa are quiet...thank heavens.  My driveway is still a sheet of ice, so hoping for a lot warmer Sunday and the rest of the week.  I'm glad I have plenty of food in my freezer and can get by.

Laundry is going...and I'm catching up on some emails and going to watch ice hockey this afternoon.

The sun is glistening off the ice on the tree limbs and bushes.  It's pretty.

Hope you're all well and safe.

We did break a temperature record again on Thursday - 85*! Then back into the 50s yesterday and today.  The weather gal I watch calls it "weather whiplash". Very appropriate.

All doing well here. I'm knitting a baby blanket right now. It's going to be nice, but I like doing the little sweaters more - they knit up faster.  They all keep me busy, though.

It's 39 degrees at 2:30 in the afternoon here in Dallas.  There was a smattering of rain earlier, but the clouds are still hanging around. I'm glad I got the flowerbed cleaning done the other day when it was very warm.  Spotting all the other little things I need to do out there IF it warms up again soon.  My yard guy will be wanting to mow my grass, but as of now, I don't have any, LOL.  I have some short weeds.  I guess I need to get him to come and pick up all the pieces of limbs, trim a shrub and maybe put some lawn stuff down. Is it too early for weed & feed?  I just know we're going to have another freeze, probably around Easter, and all the ladies with the pretty spring frocks, will have to put their big coat over them.  Have a great weekend, stay off the ice!

Cottoncandy

Good afternoon...sounds like we all are having different kind of weather.. I think also we will have another freeze around Easter...I'm having some trouble with psoriasis....skin problem...have any of you dealt with that...I have been to Dermatologist...who is just giving me tropical medicine...which isn't helping. Much...Hi. To all looking in...stay safe and well

Tomereader1

Hey, CottonCandy.  I have eczema.  The dermatologist has given me several different topical creams/ointments, but through trial and error, and reading up on it, I've discovered my own treatments.  I bought some Cetaphil, several different items.  I use the Cetaphil soap to wash the raised, itchy places, then a lotion that I apply to protect from another "flare-up" (which can show up any time, and mine is usually my right arm, left lower leg, and under my boobies).  Another treatment for the really itchy leg, is Aveeno Eczema Therapy, which is a thick, balm-like cream, oatmeal based. It works good for the itch.  I don't know if these products would help your Psoriasis, but I have noticed there are several over-the-counter products now, specializing in basic treatment of Psoriasis.  Look next time you are in the CVS or Walgreens for any of these. I had several friends who had psoriasis really bad, and nothing, even prescriptions, seemed to help.  I hope your case is a mild one. I know how troublesome even a mild case of eczema can be.

Have a good Sunday.

Our daughter has  Psoriasis & it has spread to her bones .

diglady

I had a bout of eczema. Very uncomfortable. Dermatologist prescribed Clobetasol. Miracle ointment! My grandson had it when he was here at Thanksgiving. I applied the ointment to the site --2 inches by 4 inches. Redness and itching gone within the hour. Hope this helps.
Crazy weather here in Tucson too. 80* one day the next snowing and in the 30s!

jane

I feel so bad for all of you with psoriasis.  My BIL has it, too.  Alpine...psoriasis of the bone sounds awful.  How to they treat that?

Nothing much new here.  It's finally warming up and most of the ice is gone from my driveway.

I got my drugs portioned out for the next two weeks and have some refills to call in.  And I need to call rheumatologist for a new appt.  I canceled on the day of the ice storm.

Stay safe and healthy,

jane

I thought psoriasis would be treated by a rheumatologist or some other specialist in autoimmune diseases.

I believe it must be many types of the condition or many variations. One time  I had been in a house visiting that I later found had bedbugs. By evening I had hives and psoriasis, per a nurse, but no bedbugs Both conditions lasted about a week.

Cottoncandy

Thanks everyone for your input...right now it's just on my elbows...have appt with my primary Dr next month..will see what he suggest....

alpiner1

Jane  I think our daughter sees a specialist . It is now affecting her joints & will be having  shoulder surgery soon .

alpiner1

Mean while my husband had a bug on Friday & I got it Saturday .  It is like the 24 hour flu ,  upset stomach , loose bowels .
We are both feeling better  but I have lost my appetite .  The thought of eating dinner tonight gave me a gagging feeling .

Alpiner, I just saw this on MSN; Drug-resistant stomach bug spreading across US: 'Serious public health alert'

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention has issued a "serious public health alert," warning of a nationwide spike in "extensively drug-resistant" shigellosis.

The highly contagious bacterial infection attacks the intestines and causes inflammatory diarrhea, according to the CDC's "emergency and preparedness response."

Tomereader1

there is also the "norovirus", which has stomach symptoms, as well as upper respiratory problems.  They say one major cause is handling money.  Also people  still need to be faithful to washing their hands after an outing, or transacting money.  Supposedly it is a common type virus, but seems to be spreading a lot, in many places. This noro-virus has been around for quite awhile, and is kind of like a covid virus, in that it mutates often, which is also true of the "flu virus"...they change the formula for the flu shot every year/2 yrs. or so, hence "good years" for the flu and "bad years" with lots of spread.

alpiner1

I only had an upset stomach & my appetite is gone .  The first day I slept a lot & was cold .  I have become more active but I'm not pushing it .

maryz

I've been sidelined with a brutal cold. Tested negative for Covid, fortunately.  I'm hoping this will be over in another day or two.

BABES!  What is going on with you all? I sure hope you all get to feeling better soon.  Norovirus is a weird one.  Ray and I had it on our Alaskan cruise part of that trip.  He got it first...and I was almost our of quarantine...half hour to go and BOOM! I had it.  We recovered and the ship treated us very well...but whole ship routine was changed since we were not the only ones sick.  Recovered as quickly as we got it.

We're to get more snow on Friday.  I hope there's no ice.  That's finally all gone and I don't want to see it again.

Stay safe and healthy,

jane

I'm still feeling some affects of the bug I had , mostly tired , still not back to eating as I should .

Hi Girls, I guess we all have been on a crazy weather cycle this winter. We're in the high 60's and have had 80 one day, but who knows what tomorrow may bring.

I copied a post from FB from Marilyn. Thought you all might want to see it. "
Hello everyone. Sorry for all the picture posts but I can't really see well enough to post much. that I have to type) I am doing well. Keith is continues t to decline. The latest is that he had started asking if I am Marilyn .His eyesight has  gotten very bad due to thre Atrophy of the Visual Cortex... It is so sadabd I deel like I have been grieving for the last 5 years."
It sounds like she's having a hard time. I'm so glad she moved near her son when she did.

Nothing new going on here. I got the March newsletter out today. I changed all my meds from the pharmacy I've been going to to Harris Teeter, a preferred pharmacy on my MC D plan. Should save about half.  Have been working on taxes but haven't gotten all my 1099's in yet.

My mother had a terrible eczema he last year of so. Nothing helped her much, but when I brought her up to HH to an asstd living near me, it stopped.  Later, I finally figured out she was allergic to the cat her husband brought home.

As to psoriasis, Phil Michelson the golfer, has psoriatic arthritis and advertises Embrel and says it has helped him continue to play.

As to the McDonahou (sp?) case, that is not too far from where we lived in Carolina Lakes. I haven't watched any of it except for the excerpts on the news. IMO, he's trash and did it and deserves what he gets.

Still haven't found a new dog but still looking.

Mary, sorry about the cold and Alpiner, about the virus. No fun!

Stay warm and safe and be careful on the ice if you have it.
Sharon

Good early afternoon. I hope that everyone who is or has felt poorly is improved. Our weather has also been unusual; the past three years have been different but also that unusual. I'm feeling somewhat virtuous that I had some nagging chores all done by noon. Who knows if it will last, but I hope it does.

jane

Good late afternoon.  50 degrees here, but windy, so feels colder.  Temps to drop again and maybe snow by Friday.

Sharon...thanks for infor on Marilyn.  I'm 100% in agreement that it's good she's near her son, dil, and family.  I hope her eyes are still good enough for her to drive for groceries, etc.  I don't know if she can leave K alone, though, to go out, unless she can get a respite worker.

Nothing new here...I tried for a short walk, but wind is unpleasant.

I tried to get a telephone visit with my rheumatologist, but no luck.  I can't get in until APRIL.  I suspect he's gone back to India for March.  I may ask to move that to June when I have to go down to see the hematologist and my cataract surgery will be over OR  My sister is coming for the surgery, so she and I may go to rheumatologist and then on to Iowa City and stay overnight for surgery the next morning. decisions, decisions.

More covid in my Minnesota family.

Stay safe and healthy,

jane
