Domestic Goddess: Is this correct, if one would like to post/share a recipe, we do so here?  If so, was searching to see if there were separate recipe categories?

I have something called Pellucid Marginal Degeneration, which is causing me to go blind. There is no cure; at least, not as yet.
My eye surgeon laughed as she told me, some years ago. that I would probably be dead before I went blind.  Well, that did not work out, and so I am quite bad and growing worse.  It is very hard.  Strangely, though, some days are much worse than others.

jane

MaryPage...I'm sorry to hear of that diagnosis.  Thank heavens your son is there to help you and you have other family to support you.

There really isn't anything new here.  I'm trying to catch up with my checking account and I baked some choc ship cookies for the freezer.

I guess I'll look for some basketball or hockey games as I'm caught up on laundry and dishes.  I may try to get a short walk in.  These days those walks are mighty short.

Stay safe and healthy, Dear Friends,

jane

There's nothing calling my name today either. I spent most of yesterday afternoon paying bills and buying groceries. I met with friends for lunch and, as usual, descended in mass to the grocery and malls. I found everything on my list except for Fels Soap; I know they still make it, and it's great for laundry; but it seems not to merit being sold here. I guess I'll have to check Amazon.

alpiner1

patricia19....Our local Walmart carries Fels Naptha .   I  buy it for my husband to use after working on his Model T Fords .

patricia19

Thanks, Joanne, I'll have to call them here to check

Hi y'all. Sounds like folks are improving.  I'm finally feeling some better - even got to the dining room yesterday and, so far, today.  Still coughing and blowing, though. The nurse here called my doc/PA and got me some stuff for the nebulizer. He also gave me a five-day course of prednisone and I have an appointment next week.

jane, I spent years agonizing each month balancing my checkbook to the penny. We eventually were at a point where we were not going to run out of money before the end of the month - and when I finally figured that out, I realized I didn't have to work so hard at it. For a good while, I've just checked over the totals, and let it go at that. Lazy, I know, but it works for me.

Margaret is at the beach (Gulf Shores/Orange Beach area) for a few days. She'll be back home late Monday. Jean's coming to visit for a few days the end of next week. It'll be good to see her. I've lost a lot of weight, and I'm going to ask her to help me go through my clothes, and cull out what I can't wear any more.  Also I need a new phone, and I'll get some help getting a setting up a new one.

Sue went with Randy on a business trip last week - unfortunately for her - to Reno. She's turned into a real South Carolina gal, and doesn't like snow at all. Haven't really heard about the trip itself, but obviously the trip back home yesterday was pure hell. Granted it was clear across the country, but with the storms and winds to screw flights up, they spent hours in Memphis, and hours in Charlotte, before finally getting to Greenville/Spartanburg and their car. I'm sure they're just resting and unwinding this weekend.

We're getting some lovely signs of spring now - with daffodils, forsythia, pink magnolias, etc. It is always a time of rebirth.

I've lost a lot of weight also, Mary.  My personal physician has me taking what we are calling "Naked Lady bodyweight" each morning now, and this morning I weighed 108.8.  Wow!  I haven't weighed THAT since High School!

MaryPage, I miss our emails and even our political gripes! It's good to see your post.

We always have lots of snow in March when the temperatures warm, and our humidity returns. I always welcome it because I lose the dry skin feeling of being sunburned and know spring is coming. Before climate change, the snow was always gone by Easter but not in the past few years.

I lost several pounds during my recovery from the fall of February 2021. At the time, it was too painful during those eighteen weeks to stand for any length of time, even with the provided walker. The pounds never come back, so I donated clothes here. I tried to look at it as getting to go shopping, but that was stretching it.

Cottoncandy

Hi buddies....we are having warm sunny weather...time for me to get back walking...have yearly eye check up next month...thinking I need new glasses ..Mary Page..just got to ask...what is naked lady body weight? Is it a drink or exercise routine..lol....Hi Mary..Sharon...Jane and others reading...does Marilyn post anymore..?  Have a great week everyone...

SharonE

Hi Gals. I don't like the sound of Mary's continual cough, etc. I hope the Dr can get it stopped.

Mary Page, I'm so sorry to hear of your eyes. John is facing the same thing. He is down to 40% of his optic nerve left due to glaucoma. It continues to worsen despite meds. He can still drive and read large print books and watch TV but it's getting harder everyday.

Jane glad Patricia will be with you for your cataract surgery.

Darlene, good luck on some treatment for the psoriasis.

I've been really busy lately. I play bridge Tues and Sat afternoons and I went to our Sunday movie showing yesterday of SeaBiscuit. I hadn't seen it, but it was good. Wed, we have a Women's Day high tea, which should be fun. Thurs we are going to a funeral counsellor to discuss preplanning and prepaying for our funerals. I guess it's time to do that to make it easier for the kids.  Then, Friday, I'll probably start on the April issue of the newsletter.

I wish I had lost a lot of weight! Though not the way you gals did. I haven't gained any and have lost perhaps 5 lbs since we moved here, but I would really like to lose another 10, but I doubt it will happen in spite of the exercise and giving up desserts. I took a walk down to the lake this afternoon, the first in a long time. I've been going to the therapy gym to exercise.

Well, I can't think of any other news.  Stay well & warm. Sharon

MaryPage

Naked lady body weight is what I record FIRST thing every a.m. these days.  I am on page 5 of my composition book, which I have to show to my darling personal physician every visit.  I am on monthly visits now.

I get entirely naked and take my weight.  Then I dress and record it.

PATRICIA, I miss us, too.  I sleep so much these days, that I just barely get through the things that are necessary.  I do not go out at all, except to medical appointments.  No one is allowed in except my children and my cleaning lady.  The granddaughters all have their knickers in a twist, and the great grands are likewise shut out.  I do not need any germs right now.  All photos and news items are MOST welcome.  I live for them!

Sharon, I am so sorry about John.  I can still read a little, with my glasses AND a magnifying glass, most days.  Some not.  I can still see the rooms I am in and, with my walker, of course, keep from bumping into things.  I just never imagined all this!

Sending prayers your way..Mary Page...

MaryPage

Thank you so very much.  That is the greatest gift anyone can send me.  I add my own prayers to yours and sail them back to you with my wishes for a wonderful, magical rest of Your Life.  I have been listening since Seven A.M. Eastern time this gorgeous Spring day here in Maryland on the beautiful, sparkling Chesapeake Bay to the incredible women at the conference in Abu Dhabi.  Even the First Lady of Ukraine is there!  My heart is totally strengthened by the things they are encouraging women to do!

patricia19

I fully believe that even in the darkest moments in time, it is women who nurture and fan the flames to light the way.

maryz

My four daughters, two granddaughters, one great-granddaughter in utero, and I celebrate Women's Day every day!

MaryPage

My 5 daughters, 13 granddaughters and 14 great granddaughters and I (populated the planet, didn't I!) do the same, Mary!

patricia19

On a very much smaller scale, my sister, myself, and my two nieces celebrate the same.

jane

What a pleasure to read all of your support for women!

Oh, ENJOY your spring days.  Ours are still far ahead.  We're to have snow again this afternoon/evening to add to that we got on Thursday.  Thankfully the roads and sidewalks are clear, but it's still hovering around the freezing temp.

Stay safe and healthy,

jane

patricia19

Jane, same here, more snow and colder temperatures. :(

MaryPage

Yes, Jane, this should not be considered political. I have BEEN that single (divorced) mother with three small daughters.  I have had BETTER credentials than the guys with the same jobs, but been paid much, much less.  I have even had one boss explain to me that this was because they wanted to encourage the guys to stay and be part of their management team.  (I quit on the spot with that one!)  Fortunately, I had a very good reputation and was a very desirable employee.  I was never without a job.  But it was all hard and unfair.  No, it is not political.  It is cultural.  It is impossible for me to NOT support women.  Dyed into my personal culture.  All women should stop and THINK about it.

jane

Oh, MaryPage, I hear you 100%.  When  I went for my first interview..which my Educ Professor told me to NOT come back to the college with a signed contract.  This was in my senior year, even before I had student taught.  Anyway, this nut of a principal had his office in the basement...across from the gym!  He told me, after trying to find out a lot of things that were none of his business, that, of course my salary would be less than the band director who had a lot of children, and I had no dependents.  I knew right then that this was not the place for me. The choice of children had nothing to do with his teaching schedule or abilities.

I've had an...expensive morning.  I got my water heater removed and replaced.  I"m lucky to get such quick service in this small town.

So, I treated myself to lunch out.   :2funny:

Take care and stay safe,

jane

Hi ....not much going in with me...enjoy reading yalls post...trying to get use to the time change..now it's dark in the early mornings...but really don't bother me that much...my granddaughter just stopped by....good timing....I was having a problem with my cell phone and she fixed it in no time.....hope everyone is doing well...have great rest of week....]

maryz

Our morning temps have been down in the 20s. So crazy! Our local strawberry growers have all had plants in bloom, and that makes it tough on them.

I had to get a new cell phone. Margaret transferred all (or almost all) my data from the old phone. Now I have to figure out where everything is and how to access it. That should keep me busy for some time.

Lots of birthdays around here and in my family. My oldest grand is 40 today; the youngest will be 34 tomorrow; and I'll be 87 on Thursday.  Plus there are five birthdays at this facility this week.

Happy Birthday, MaryZ.  Sorry I'm late with the wish.

Good morning...sitting here with my second cup of coffee..watching it rain...so peaceful and thankful for it...I'm just getting over a sinus infection...and it always affects my ear....which I've always had trouble with...even though it's normally a kids problem...MaryZ..I think I wished you HB...but saying it again just in case...Hi to all stopping by...hope all are well..warm and may God meet all our wants and needs as HE sees fit".....

maryz

Thanks for the birthday wishes. It was a nice quiet day - and I don't feel any older.  ::)

We have been having a tough time in our family lately.  Daughter Pam came down with serious breast cancer and has been on chemotherapy.  Daughter Debi came down with Covid.  Daughter Anne's house burned down last night.  She was here, as it was her turn to take care of me.  Son Christopher came up from Fredericksburg, Virginia to take care of me.  Anne went home to Claiborne, on Maryland's Eastern Shore.  Chip was able to change his flight plans and get home tomorrow, a day earlier than planned.

We are all unharmed, and we have the strength as a family to see this through.  A neighbor saw the flames and ran over and pounded on the door and got Greg and the dog out.  We were called here and then were up all the rest of the night.  Now the insurance adjusters have been already, and Anne & Greg have had many offers, but have chosen to stay right next door in a home owned by friends for whom it is a 2nd home they use just for the summer sailing.
So Anne & Greg can have it indefinitely, and will be able to watch over the work on their house. We are told everyone in their village, population 100, was out for the fire.  It is a Great place.

This, too, shall pass.
