Oldiesmann: Finally got the AmazonBot situation under control. I basically changed some server settings to tell AmazonBot that it's not allowed to access anything on the site. That should fix the speed issues we've been experiencing lately

Anyone who has Disney+ channel, you are in for a treat if you watch "The Idea Man" which is a lovely documentary about the guy who did Kermit the Frog, and Sesame Street characters, and all the succeeding Muppet movies.  It was wonderful watching how this all came about. The guy's name is Jim Henson (I was having a memory erasure there for a moment! Sometime the "memory lightbulb" turns back on; sometimes it "don't")

RAMMEL

Tome, - I don't have Disney, but did a search for "The Idea Man" and came up with this -    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VivJA8VKCPg    Is that possibly what you were referring too?  As an adult, with a couple of boys, I often watched the Muppets, and admired the "behind the scenes" aspect of the show. Amazed me what they could do. Not ashamed to admit, I had some favorites there

Thanks Rammel, but the entire documentary was about an hour long or more. Some of the intro scenes to content in the link you sent, appear in the documentary.  I'm sure Ron Howard makes it interesting, but the doc began with Henson's entry into puppeteering and moved on up to the time he left us.  Excellent show.

Lotsa stuff on Henson, but this was a presentation on Disney+ streaming channel. It was very thorough, and I enjoyed it tremendously.
Thanks.

Here's the Disney trailer on YouTube. It was at the end of the link.

GOOD NEWS!
Four hostages kidnaped from the Music Festival have been rescued!

MarsGal

Today the cats got a present. It is a big, and I mean huge, pad to lounge on while looking out the patio door. I did measure the space in front of the door, but forgot to check how far it would encroach into the living room space. I had to push the furniture down the room a bit to make some space to walk between the sofa and the pad. Shan has already tried it out. He is such a big cat. He often likes to stretch out when sleeping. I wanted to make sure there was space for both him and Oscar. It has a bolster around it for Oscar, who likes to prop his head on me, or a pillow. It will be a lot warmer for them when they spend time at the patio door during the winter since the floor gets a bit chill there.

It has clouded up a bit, but that hasn't stopped it from getting up to 88o today after several very nice sunny, breezy days in the low to mid 70's. Last I looked, the weatherman says we will be getting up into the nineties by next Tuesday.

Marilyne

Good morning MarsGal, and anyone else who looks in: Nothing much happening here over this Father's Day weekend.  Son and wife are out of town for a few days, and older daughter Shelley has been sick with a flu like illness. Fever and cough and headache, et al.  She took a Covid test, and it was negative.  She has lots of ongoing health issues, so she gets hit hard by stuff that doesn't bother most people.
Younger daughter came yesterday, and brought AJ a present, along with lots of food items that she knows he likes.  So that's the extent of any weekend celebrations here.

Mars, your extra large lounging pad for Oscar and Shan sounds like a nice addition to your new digs.  Do you have to step on it or walk on it if you want to go out to the patio?

It's been a long time since we've heard from Mary Page?  I hope she's doing okay, and will write soon.  Also a while since Sandy left a message?  I'm wondering about her new art project?

I'm mostly watching movies on TV, and trying to stay away from the news programs.  I have a couple of new books to start, but will mention them in Library~Bookshelf later.
Hope we hear soon from those who post here, or anyone else who looks in and has something to say or to comment on.  Everyone is welcome here!

MarsGal

Marilyne, I will either have to step on it or move it out of the way. Oscar and Shan have been taking turns on it. I had hoped that they will both use it since I got it big enough that they will have enough room to stretch out and not be in contact with each other. I have seen them both on it twice. The first time they behaved, but did not stay long. Last evening they had their first fight on it. I had to intervene. Shan is so much bigger and heavier than Oscar, and with Oscar not being able to hear anymore, Shan has an unfair advantage.

I bought a griddle pan a few weeks back and have used it twice so far. I am very pleased with it. Nothing else exciting to report. All is quiet, mostly. I managed to get more reading done.

Marilyne

Mars - Is your new griddle electric or stove top?   I had an electric long ago, as well as a skillet - both stainless steel.  Used constantly over the years, but eventually they wore out.  I tried replacing them, but the new ones weren't as good.  I'm sure there's a bigger selection out there now, so may take a look at Amazon.

Speaking of Amazon . . . I've been making an effort to stop ordering all the everyday stuff that I can easily get at CVS, Walgreens, etc.  So many small businesses closing here, because no one shops in person anymore. Same with the big drugstores.  I've heard that Walgreens is going to downsize to Pharmacy only, in some cities.  People buy all the other  items online now.   That was the reason  Bed, Bath and Beyond  closed across the country. Everything in that store could be purchased online, and delivered to your door, which is what people want.    I feel kind of sad when I drive past that big empty  BB & B,  near me, that used to be a busy and fun place to shop.  Also J.C Penney.  :(

RAMMEL

The new minimum wage won't help that.

MarsGal

I know what you mean Rammel.

Sue and I are going to lunch on Wednesday and will be stopping at the nearby Ashcombe's garden center. Ashcombe's used to have a farm where you could pick your own strawberries. Their farm market grew into a rather large enterprise. Mostly, I think, they just have greenhouses now. I will see when I get there. It has been at least 50 years since I visited.

MarsGal

Sue and I are postponing our trip until next week even though it promises to be as hot then as now. Sue wants to buy some plants for the porch planters, but doesn't want to plant in such hot weather. Also, I made an error in scheduling my grocery delivery, thinking it would be coming yesterday morning. It comes this morning. Both of us are finding excuses to stay out of the heat, I think.

Today is Juneteenth. I hope those who are celebrating enjoy the day in spite of the heat.

Marilyne

Mars,  Ashcombe's Garden Center, sounds like a place I'd like to visit.  I love those big old fashioned nurseries that used to be orchards or farms.  We have a couple left around here like that, but most have been sold and torn down to build apartment buildings, housing tracts or Big-Box stores like Home Depot.

Hoping your hot weather  is not so bad today, and that the "heat-dome" (that's what the meteorologists call it), will soon lift and move on.  Then you can all enjoy normal Summer weather.  Let us know what you buy at the Garden Center?

I never have any luck finding the place to post about Movies.  So, I'll just post it here.  If you haven't seen "Oppenheimer" and have access to Amazon Prime, it is showing there now, and I was awestruck!  The movie is 2 mnutes short of 3 hours, but I watched half one night, and the next half the next day.  The Oscars got this one right, it deserved every one it won.  Acting, special effects, cinematography, etc. I recommend this highly. (yes it does have 2 sex scenes very short, bad language, smoking) Almost every male actor you've ever seen is in this and you might not recognize some, or you will recognize, but can't put the name to the "make-up altered" face.

MaryPage

It's been a while since I've posted.  All of a sudden, I, who have never in Life been a person notably stricken with allergies, am running a river out of my nostrils CONSTANTLY.  FLONASE is a huge help, but I cannot take it often enough.  I think the huge changes in our climate must be a contributor.  Anyway, enough complaints and Hello, All!  This ancient crone is still muddling through her days.

PatH2

Hi, MaryPage, It's good to hear from you again.  I bet you're right about the allergies.  I'm seeing the same thing here in Oregon, on the opposite side of the country.

PatH2

Marilyne

Mary Page,  it's good to see your message today.  Glad that you're doing well, and can keep us posted on your health, your daughters, and your granddaughters.   Sounds like all is well, but  sorry you're suffering with the seasonal allergies.   They're  bad out here on the West Coast as well.   We've also had a number of wildfires this past week or so, which means the smoke mingles with the pollen, and gives us a double dose of allergy!

CallieOK

Pollen is bad in Oklahoma, too ("Achoo", Sniffle Sniffle)  After floods in May, June has been HOT and humid.
{I'm not sure we'd feel as hot if weather gurus didn't tell us we were.)

I remember the summer during college that I worked as a counselor at the Tulsa YWCA camp.  It was so hot that campers could only swim in the lake in the early morning. Counselors not on bedtime duty would take a rowboat out on the lake after dark.  That's when I learned to gig frogs.  ;D

phyllis

Callie, in Kansas if a guy wanted to take you frog gigging it never involved actually having anything to do with frogs.    :winkie:

Or Snipe hunting, here in California!   ::)

CallieOK

Have heard of Snipe hunting but never got asked.  ;)

RAMMEL

We had Snipe Hunting also, but it was more of a mixed company activity.  Submarine races were more of a two person activity

Admittingly, I cannot be relied upon for much recall of late, but I believe snipe hunting was a fool's search.  You were told you were going on a snipe hunt and to bring a bag to put them in, and then set loose to hunt someplace on your own. More fool you, my small recollection tells me now!

CallieOK

Mary Paige.I remember snipe hunting the same way. Others would try to scare the "hunter" in various ways.

MaryPage

Apparently, Snipe Hunting was the same kind of tomfoolery all over this country.  Well, those were the days when practical jokes were highly popular and you never heard of mass shootings of anyone, let alone children.  I have a hard time, as the ancient old hag I am now, keeping up with the technology of these days, but I do miss the simple times of yore.  Yes, small children did not die from gunshot trauma in those days, but the trade off, I suppose, was that many a mother lost her babies to pneumonias and such diseases without the wonder drugs readily available today.  Yep, the centuries are quite different, as are the sensibilities of its people.  And I WOULD dearly love to be back in my grandmother's kitchen in Virginia while she served me up a plateful of scrapple and eggs.  Anyone know what scrapple was?

Saw my personal physician this week,   and she confirmed what I had already discovered for myself: this is one of the worst, and may well turn out by summer's end to be the very worst, allergy times we have ever known.  FLONASE works the best for me, and I keep it close at hand.

patricia19

Scrapple, for me, is a highly spiced mush with pork, often served with fried eggs on top.
