Finally, a good night's sleep last night . . .  it really makes a difference.    Now up and dressed, and ready for older daughter Shelley's arrival.  She comes over on Wednesday morning, and helps me with some housework chores that I can no longer do.  Then we sit around and drink coffee, and discuss the latest news . . . of which there is always plenty!  Claire comes with her sometimes, but won't be here today.
I'll return here for more conversation later this  morning . . .

Marilyne

I'm back again after a pleasant visit with Shelley, and Claire.  Claire  did come, and brought us a Water Pie that she baked last night.  Some of you probably remember back during the Covid lockdown,  when we were posting simple recipes here in B&T, that  called for only a few inexpensive ingredients, and were quick and easy to prepare.  Most  of the money saving recipes were old ones from back during the Depression era of the 1930's.  The Water pie was unique, easy to make, and tasted good!  So tonight we will enjoy Claire's for our dessert.

OLM and others who are interested in eliminating dyes, and other chemicals from our foods,  I read an encouraging story today in my daily newspaper.  Kraft/Heinz, is the first major food company to announce changes that have already started being made, to remove all artificial colors from their foods like Kool-aid, Jello, Mac&Cheese, etc.  They're wanting to get an early start in  RFK's movement to  Make America Healthy Again.

I'm here Rick.

Been spending way too much time on the computer today trying to find just the right bedroom furniture, among other things.

Good morning! I tried 8 times to post this last night, but the winds were so high my signal was too intermittent:

I'm just blown in by the cold 22 m.p.h. Winds. We wanted to continue visiting but it was just too chilly!🥶

Its nice that you had Shelley and Claire for a visit today, Marilyne. Please describe "Water Pie?" Sounds interesting.
I also saw an article this morning about companies switching to safe additives, though I didn't have time to read it. Its excellent news though!

Hey Rick and MG 👋🏼

Today was a relaxing day for Alex and Justin. The Gkids took care of entertaining themselves. Ron finished building the door frames and installed both tree fort doors. I visited with whomever was available, and played pizza delivery with the kids in the tree fort once the doors were installed. Which included that when the delivery person entered someone else had to leave by the other door and exit that deck via the slide. Justin smoker grilled the leg of veal. It was very good! He also made "smashed grilled potatoes" and grilled broccoli and cauliflower. The outside shower's replacement on-demand-water heater arrived and everyone got a nice hot shower before the wind came up. It was too windy for a campfire. Another great laundry day!😀 Hope everyone's day was blessed!

Something I never heard of. I'm guessing it is made with few ingredients.

Good morning, all... geez I thought I was in the movie The Wizard of Oz last night with the tornado warning going off, lightening, and wind howling and blowing everything around. My poor little Australian Silky Terrier Brinkley hates storms, and he just kept barking nonstop.

MarsGal, I find myself searching for items to purchase online and love reading the reviews to help me decided. Good luck with the new bedroom furniture.

Rick, good to hear from you, I'm a bit curious about the Water pie as well.

Marilyne, please share the recipe for the pie.  It's so nice to have help with chores and then get a bonus sitting and chatting with coffee and pie. It seems no one visits our house anymore, all the kids and grandkids are so busy and when we do get together, they want to host at their houses. My hubby and I do sit and talk about the world events, while having coffee & a sweet of some kind.

OLM, I for one am glad to see companies are making the effort to eliminate the dyes and other unhealthy unnecessary additives from our foods. I saw a post on a social site that warned it was hazardous to flush your leftover medicines down the toilet, yet they are okay for us to consume.  I didn't know if I wanted to laugh or cry.  ;D  :'(

Y'all have a great day, we are in for more storms.
Ciao for now~

Patricia,   Thanks for posting the recipe for the Water Pie.  I looked at lots of recipes on Google, and they're all basically the same.  The main thing that's stressed in all of them, is to not worry when it's finished baking,  but still looks watery.  If you let it cool before  putting it in the fridge, it will firm up and look just like the pictures shown.    If you scroll down on the "Southern Plate" site you posted,  you'll see a delicious looking Lemon Pie, that makes it's own piecrust.  I love any and all  lemon desserts, so I plan to try that one.

Marilyne, when I looked at the link, I immediately knew it was a Bisquick recipe!😏  That series was all over the place at one time.

I was looking at the links and was surprised to see my blender listed as "Budget Friendly."  I wouldn't pay over three hundred for a blender, unless it did magic tricks...

I hope to make the Impossible Lemon Pie, sometime over the weekend.   For once, I happen to have all the ingredients here .. . even a box of Bisquick.  I have four lemons left over from Winter/Spring on my backyard lemon tree.  Hoping they will still be okay?  The only thing I'm not sure of is my blender?  I haven't seen it in LONG time, so might have loaned it to one of the two daughters?  I haven't looked in the basement yet, so it might be there. 🤔

I call my basement "The Burmuda Triangle".  All kinds of things disappear down there, never to be seen again. :o  ;D

Sounds familiar, but mine has no room for a name  ::)  ???            There's also an attic in the same condition.

We have lived a long time and collected a LOT of stuff.  My husband collected a ton of stuff in his workroom.  He was always going to make a thing out of it someday.     :2funny:   Sometimes he actually did!

I went down to my  "Bermuda Triangle"  this morning,  and didn't spot my blender anywhere in sight . . . which doesn't mean it isn't there.    The many shelves, boxes, bins and cabinets contain 54 years of items that were once important, beloved, and worth saving.   That's how long we've lived in this house . . . 54 years this month.  Too difficult now to lift something off a shelf,  or bend over to go through a box.  Things will have to stay as-is, for now.   At this late date, it really doesn't matter anymore.  Someday  soon our kids will have to decide what to do with everything?    Just as well that I won't know what they decide.

I never had a basement, with two military husbands, we moved constantly so kept our possessions tight and easy to pack up and move to the next base. Even now, I'm constantly decluttering.

Ciaobella

Not sure about the Water Pie after seeing the recipe but Marilyne I think the Lemon pie looks tempting.  So, you have lemon trees, how exciting!

Phyllis, The Bermuda Triangle... :2funny: We have a finished basement with a family room we use for entertaining at Thanksgiving & Christmas Eve. My hubby loves going down there to watch his old cowboy tv shows and sports.  It's very warm and cozy in the winter and nice and cool in the summer.  We keep it pretty organized for living here for 41 yrs. I have been getting rid of a lot of things I know the kids won't want or need donating it to our church rummage sale. It can be a bit overwhelming at times, and I just go back upstairs and say another time.

Marilyne, I like your attitude about not having to know what they decide to do with things, although I have a lot of collector dolls, figurines, Dicken's village, and ceramic angels so I intend to pass some along to my grown grandkids, and if they end up selling them on EBay one day I hope they get a good price for them. I collected these items with joy and sentimental feelings, but I know they won't feel the same.

Patricia, I find decluttering has to be in phases because if you wait too long it's almost impossible to consider taking on years of things stored.  My garage attic is next for me.

Ciao for now~

Ciaobella, with most of my life being a military dependent, I've never been able to collect many possessions. And now, 34 years on, I've never gotten into the habit with moving here and there for various reasons. The 11 years I've lived here are the longest outside of childhood, I've lived by myself, in one place.

OnLonelyMountain

good afternoon! My family has left and I am resting. While they're here I hate to miss a minute!

I hope you weathered the storms alright Ciaobella. How did it go? Yes! I did a letter to the editor for a friend concerning a waste water reclaim project the city near our farm was doing. They were going to dump the reclaimed water into one of the irrigation canals. Yikes! I researched thoroughly. My son had worked for the environmental engineering company that was designing it. My husband had worked with the firm as well. They were so angry with my letter they called Ron up and chewed him out for "not controlling his wife!" They stood to make a couple of million. My disclosures substantially threatened their profits. The skinny is that no waste water treatment plant currently cleans anything but solids and 3-5 bacterial coliforms from the water. All kinds of toxic substances are dumped back into the river, or are "recycled" for municipal use. So drugs, laundry, bathing and cleaning products, road films, agricultural run off and industrial waste, to name a few are aggregated with every city and farm they pass along the river's route. I didn't want to bring it up before, but I won't swim in the rivers now knowing the levels of contamination. 😬 The sad part is that its entirely possible to clean those things out of the water, it just costs the cities "too much." The state and federal government don't require more than solids and 3 coliforms. Cleaning for 5 (with toxic chemicals) is above the norm.

I remember those bisquick recipes Patricia. The Impossible Lemon Pie one was even in my 1979 edition, Betty Crocker Cookbook. Hope your lemons were still usable Marilyne.

EPA has a virtual labyrinth of information, laws and guidance about pertaining to all kinds of water use and conditions. https://www.epa.gov/regulatory-information-topic/regulatory-and-guidance-information-topic-water#drinking You can get lost in here clicking on all the info that is available. I know. I spent hours doing research for a college technical paper regarding aquifers, their uses and regulations. I still wade in on occasion. There is probably somewhere in there that discusses irrigation canals. They may even be similar to regulations for regarding aquifer water being used for irrigation. Fascinating subject, IMO.

OLM, I assume you have already made use of this site.
