So those must be the trugs?   I wondered what they looked like.  Very nice - bigger than I thought they would be.

Aviv's Bar Mitzva

Marilyne

Two beautiful photos of Aviv's Bar Mitzvah.  He looks calm and serious and handsome.  I know that you and the whole family are so proud of him.  Sending my Best Wishes to Aviv, on this important occasion.

MarsGal

I second Marilyne's post.

Thank you!
Pity I cannot post here the short video from that last photo , where one can see everyone pelting him with hard candy, as good wishes for a sweet future. The sweets were bouncing loudly on the scroll while Aviv was trying to move his head to avoid the projectiles  ;D

Bubble, try right-clicking on the video while it's playing, click on save as and then post in a downloads' folder. You should be able to post from that link.

Picking mulberries - what a treat!

patricia19

So adorable, so absorbed in getting the right berries, Bubble!

Amy

Lynn is so cute!! She know just right where to put them also! Are they like a raspberry?

I find them tastier and quite juicy.

Here are some views from the Dead Sea
 this sunny weekend

so_P_bubble

Next to the Dead Sea there is fresh water spring that is quite welcome in slacking thirst and alleviating the burning eyes from the Dead Sea concentrated water.

Marilyne

Bubble,  I so enjoyed looking at the photos of the Dead Sea!   I Googled for more information, and then spent the better part of an hour, learning all about it . . . and I'm not done yet.  It's always surprising to me, how little we know about different parts of the world.  Now we have good information online,  with accurate maps, to find and read about any place in the world.
So much still to learn, and so little time left!

patricia19

Bubble, thank you for the photos. I knew about the Dead Sea, and seen commercial photos, but these are better, more personal.

This week end is the Shavuot holiday - when in biblical time people used to go to Jerusalem and bring the first crops to the Temple.

It is traditional to make cheese cake and have dairy meals on that holiday.

In kindergarten the children are asked to come in festive clothes and to bring a basket of fresh produce. Then they help baking the cheese cake.

Bubble, she's always so intent and serious.

Bubble ,first have to say Lynn is such a sweetheart!

Patricia, oh my those are nasty dark clouds! Did they drop snow or rain? Or just intimidate?

Bubble, thank you so much for posting these photos for me! Lately, it will be partly cloudy to cloudy during the day and heavy rain in the evenings and overnight. I don't know what this late cold will do to the various area farms and local gardens.

Amy, in the foothills, 1500 levels, we had frost! Unheard of for this time of year, but when has normal still been something we counted on?  Every other evening has brought these ominous clouds and steady, relentless rain.

This weather pattern has usually come in August when the summer weather cools down in preparatory for winter. Last year we were in the nineties and up, this year, we may not go over seventy-seven and that, not until late July.

You can see they are finishing the demolition of the old Polaris building from the nineteen thirties in the left of one of the photos. Unfortunately, the owners left it to rot, even with all the history from the thirties and forties, including a gentleman's club one time. The absentee owner ignored several court summonses until the city garnished the vacant building.

Michael,  Thanks for posting this lovely photo of  Earl Hammer, Jr's boyhood home.  It looks like you're having a wonderful  vacation, visiting some historical sights, and maybe some of your favorite Theme Parks as well?  Looking forward to seeing you back here in Senior's and Friends, when your vacation is over.

I tried posting a photo again. I had to send it to email to get it to reduce the size. It just gave the jpeg#, no pic. Hints?

patricia19

OLM, send it to me, email is in my member's profile and I will post it for you and send you the coordinates' explanation so you will have it for any following photos per size.

I've changed the attachment settings to allow for files up to 2MB, which is the largest I can do without changing PHP settings.

Here's a picture I took from the Grand Overlook at New River Gorge National Park in West Virginia. This place is quite large, with several hiking trails, river access and a couple of overlooks. I didn't spend much time exploring due to time constraints the night I got into town (I did a bridge walk tour that night and the location of that was about 40 minutes from the overlook, which in turn was 20 minutes from my hotel) and the desire to get home at the end of the trip (I stayed in West Virginia at each end because it's about halfway between here and the amusement parks I wanted to visit in Virginia) because I was tired after spending 4 days out in the heat at the beginning of the week. I may head back out that way in the fall to see more of the park.

Thank you Patricia, I emailed it. Sometimes I get lucky and it goes out quick. Most times I'll find it still in the outbox in the morning. Then I have to take it out to a spot with better reception. Worse, they can get "hung up in the trees" and don't show up as sent for a couple of days. I appreciate the help. I tried a number of apps this afternoon but could not find one that worked for various reasons.

Thank you Mike. Nice pic! Sounds like you're playing hard. :D

Oldiesmann

I had a lot of fun on my trip, put well over a thousand miles on my car and visited a new amusement park and state that I hadn't even planned on visiting this trip (I planned on visiting one park near Richmond, VA on the 22nd and 23rd, but there was a water main break in the area on the 21st that prompted a boil water advisory through Sunday, so they didn't open on the 22nd and I ventured two hours north to a park outside of DC in western Maryland - my first time in Maryland and first time in that part of the country since we visited DC when I was a kid).

Basic rundown of my trip:
21st - drove from here to Beckley, WV. Briefly drove up to the Grand Overlook at New River Gorge before venturing off to the bridge walk tour in nearby Fayetteville (about half an hour north of Beckley)
22nd - drove from Beckley to Bowie, MD, then drove two hours back south to the hotel in Ashland, VA
23rd - spent the day at Kings Dominion. Ended up getting to ride everything and see one of the shows, so missing a day didn't really affect me. I had visited the park a couple days in 2019 as well so it wasn't my first time there.
24th and 25th - spent both days at Busch Gardens Williamsburg, about an hour east of Richmond. Also visited the park in 2019 but didn't see any of the shows. Got to see most of the shows over the course of two days and had a blast riding everything
26th - I had planned to spend this day seeing some historic sites in the Williamsburg area, but decided I didn't want to spend a 5th consecutive day out in the heat all day, and a good portion of a historic/scenic road through the area is under construction as well. Ended up driving 30 minutes east to Hampton, VA and did a harbor tour cruise. Got to see part of Chesepeake Bay, part of an old Army fort and a bunch of ships docked at the piers at Naval Station Norfolk. Grabbed lunch in Hampton afterwards and headed back to Williamsburg for the day. Dropped by to see a friend who owns a meadery in town (former member of Christian rock band Downhere, whose forum I ran for a while years ago), crashed at the hotel for a bit then walked to a nearby BBQ restaurant for dinner.
27th - Drove to the Walton's Mountain museum in Schuyler, VA. Mom is a big fan of the show and it was fun seeing the area that inspired the setting of the show as well as where the creator grew up. Afterwards I continued my journey back west to Beckley.
28th - Drove back home

I was originally planning to see more of New River Gorge before I left, but didn't want to wear myself out when I had a four and a half hour drive back home. I was also planning to see the exhibition coal mine in Beckley while I was in the area, but they didn't open until 10, which meant I'd be sitting around the hotel for another 45 minutes after breakfast and again delaying my trip home.

The trip was a lot of fun even if it didn't go quite as planned, and allowing more time to just do things at a leisurely pace helped (last year I did 5 amusement parks in 6 days, so most days I was checking out of one hotel and driving an hour and a half or more to another amusement park - I didn't stop to see anything along the way other than hitting World of Chocolate the night before I went to Hersheypark and I was exhausted by the end of the trip).
