Oldiesmann: Finally got the AmazonBot situation under control. I basically changed some server settings to tell AmazonBot that it's not allowed to access anything on the site. That should fix the speed issues we've been experiencing lately

Rick, you have found two old-time greats...and two of my fathers favourites...

Another version just found although i have not heard of them...

RAMMEL

Jackie, go back a page for another Jeannette MacDonald and Nelson Eddy song. Marilyne posted it.

I remember the song you posted from around that same time, but it wasn't by The Browns. But I don't remember who did it.

Even Ray Stevens did it (and, unlike most of what he's known for, this wasn't a comedy version)

Almost the end of Summer, 2025.  Here's a  farewell song, sung by Frank Sinatra, lyrics by Johnny Mercer:  The Summer Wind

Where would the wild west be without music written and performed by talented Italians? One of these days I should attempt to watch some of these movies.

Music written and performed by a guy you've likely never heard of, but you've likely heard him playing at some point. Alessandro Alessandroni was an Italian composer, multi-instrumentalist and whistler who worked quite a bit with Ennio Morricone.

An emotional recitation of the lyrics of LaVern Baker's 1954 hit "Tweedle Dee" with piano accompaniment ;D

Another funny one from Cactus Pryor and company. I wonder what the original songwriters thought of this. This is at least the second recording to destroy this song - Spike Jones and company did a politically incorrect version called "Chinese Mule Train" with banjoist Freddy Morgan singing in a terrible Asian accent.

Even more fun from Cactus Pryor and company. This time he's marrying "The Thing" from Phil Harris' hit song of the same name...

A nice rendition of an old standard by Jackie Wilson. This was the B side of his R&B hit "Reet Petite" and later appeared on the Lonely Teardrops album.

A fun upbeat rendition of the classic "We'll Meet Again" by The Turtles from 1966. This was the flip side of the single "Outside Chance" in the US and "Happy Together" everywhere but the US (a different song was used for the B side of the US release of that single)

I've always liked the song Autumn in New York.  The lyrics are great, and it does sound "so inviting".  Makes you want to go back in time, when things in our World were really like this.   Never to return again.

A great September-related song. This was written for the 1960 play The Fantasticks, but the song is probably more well known than that play is these days. This is one of three versions that was a hit in 1965 (Ed Ames and Roger Williams also had success with the song that year). This version hit #10 on the "Easy Listening" chart in the US in early December of that year.

Fun from The Turtles. This was their answer to country breakup/love songs of the 60s. "Ever since the day we separated, there's been too much heartsick feeling to forget!". This album, released in 1968, was presented as a fictional "battle of the bands", with each track being a different style and credited to a different "artist". This was the group's attempt to move away from the sappy pop style they became known for after the popularity of "Happy Together" (and includes "Elenore", which was specifically written with over-the-top sappy lyrics and became a huge hit as well because many people didn't get the joke)

Rick -  Yes, we remember, when Moments to Remember, was a huge hit.
Those were the days!

Michael -  Wish you had been there with us . . . You would have loved those days.

Oldiesmann

Continuing where I let off, here's The Turtles' take on hippies, surfer dudes and hot rodders, all in one song. "Twenty seven girls follow wherever he goes!"

This is what happened when the folks behind the satirical British puppet TV show Spitting Image had heard "Agadoo" by Black Lace one too many times - they wrote their own catchy song with pointless lyrics. "Agadoo" originated in France in the early 70s and an English version by German band Saragossa Band was a big hit in parts of Europe in the early 80s. The Black Lace version was released in 1984 and hit #2 in the UK. Lyrics can be found at https://genius.com/Spitting-image-the-chicken-song-lyrics

That was a huge hit for Bobby Vinton. Good song.

Here's an interesting rendition of the march from the movie The Great Escape, complete with what sounds like kazoos.

"Roses are Red". . . much better than "The Chicken Song"! 😩
I remember the movie, The Great Escape, but not the music?   The movie was good, so I assume the sound track was too?

Vanilla-Jackie

Jim Reeves also sang it but i feel his version came along after Ronnie Carroll and Bobby Vinton..
