Thanks for bringing back memories, Bubble. It's been 40 years since I have been to the City. David retired and moved down here to NC 20 years ago and he still misses it. He lived very close to Washington Square and spent a lot of time there, also, in Central Park. That helped him wind down from his stressful job down on Wall Street.

They rented a lovely house for those last days, sourrounded with a forest in changing colors.

The last photo shows a fallen tree with tiny muchrooms that look just like silver coins, amazing!

What a great idea, to spent a few days away from the city, and see some of rural Americana. It looks like they made the very best of their short vacation. Hoping they return someday, to see other partsof te country.

Your family is staying ln Ulster County, west of the Hudson River and my house was directly across on the east side of the Hudson in Duchess Co. Autumn in NY is unbelievably beautiful because the leaves are changing to many vivid colors. The roads are crowded with "leaf peekers" that come from all over the world. Glad your family are experiencing a special time in America

The fungi on the tree is known by many names but we called it turky tails. Common growth on deciduous trees in the north.

I agree with Marilyne, It's nice to get out of the city on such a trip. Although, I would be interested in their perceptions of the grocery and prices versus their own.

I am glad to help, Bubble. The latest picture is taken in the Catskill Mountains. A large number of these lakes were created by mining stone and shipping it down to the City to be used for creating the skyscrapers that make the famous NYC skyline. Also, many of the large reservoirs are the City's source for fresh drinking water. And, the Catskills have all kinds of resorts for people to escape the noise and crowded City for awhile. Besides being scenically beautiful it also is essential to the creation of the City.

Now, I will step out of my reference librarian shoes and just enjoy the beautiful pictures they have sent. Your daughter is a talented photographer.

Today the family is on the way back, over 20H flight!

But today I received up to date photos of little Pailin and I find her adorable. They plan to come on a 10 visit by the end of the month so I will have the opportunity to see her and meet her mom.

The USS Cod submarine docked in Lake Erie in Cleveland, Ohio. The sub is open to the public and you can walk through it for $15. I can post more pictures from inside if you'd like.
