I guess this was to take advantage of the popularity of things like "I Want a Hippopotamus for Christmas" (a hit featuring 10-year-old Gayla Peevy in 1953) and "Nuttin' For Christmas" (a hit featuring 7-year-old Barry Gordon in 1955)

A fun seasonal tongue twister from the Andrews Sisters. How they managed to sing this so fast without stumbling over the words is beyond me but I'm also not a professional singer.

One of the bluest versions of "Blue Christmas" I've heard, featuring the vocal talents of Nancy Wilson from the rock band Heart (not the other Nancy Wilson who was popular in the 60s and early 70s) with her sister Ann on guitar.

Mannheim Steamroller's iconic arrangement of "Stille Nacht" from their 1984 Christmas album. Still my favorite arrangement of this song 30+ years after I first heard it.

Back to the regular music now that Christmas is over. Here's a classic from Raymond Scott. You may not recognize the name but you've likely heard this many times as it was used in quite a few cartoons.

A forgotten vocal version of the Martin Denny classic "Quiet Village" by a woman whose main claim to fame was as a child actress in the My Gang shorts from 1935-1941.

A fun arrangement of the Brazilian jazz tune "Tico Tico". This has been recorded by numerous artists over the years, and at least three different people added English lyrics to the tune as well.

A somewhat obscure Roy Orbison track from the early 70s. This was a big hit in the UK and remains quite popular in Scotland, even becoming the unofficial anthem of the Glasgow Rangers FC soccer team.

A wild one from the 1938 film Garden of the Moon featuring John Payne, Jerry Colonna, Johhnie Davis, Ray Mayer and Joe Venutti.

A true exotic gem from the 50s. Sondi Sodsai is a Thai (Siamese at the time of her birth) actress and singer, who moved to the US for several years to study dramatic arts in North Carolina. Once she finished her studies, she returned to Thailand. According to Wikipedia, she's still alive today and is now 91. This song was written for the 1949 musical South Pacific.

A nice instrumental version of "Red Roses For a Blue Lady" from 1964.

A nice instrumental rendition of "Old Fashioned Love Song" from German pianist Horst Jankowski (of "A Walk in the Black Forest" fame). This was written by actor/singer/songwriter Paul Williams and was a big hit for Three Dog Night in 1971 (at least in the US - apparently it didn't chart in the UK).
