Hi everyone.  It looks like we will have another hot day up to 97 degrees this afternoon.  Yesterday afternoon we had a thunderstorm and got about a quarter inch of rain.  It was enough that I turned off my sprinkler system for this morning.

This will be my usual Thursday activities or picking up my friend to take to coffee and then after taking him home will go on to the church for the Wisdom group.  I also intend to buy some flowers for Pat's birthday Saturday.

We had a most delicious lunch and good time at the Chop House yesterday. Scott and I had the grilled shrimp and crab cake that came with pasta under the shrimp  We were happy to have Scott go with us. Pat had a ground sirloin with brocolli and mushrooms that had been fixed in a wine sauce.  She really liked the mushrooms. Scott gave us a weather station that measure's the indoor and outdoor temperature and humidity as well as barometric pressure and also forecasts what our weather will be.  It works with a wireless sensor outside and can run on batteries or has an AC Adapter for the inside unit.  As much as the gift was appreciated, it was a joy to see how much he enjoyed giving it to us.  He also gave us a beautiful anniversary card with a very touching personal note inside as well as a nice birthday card for his mother with another touching note inside.

The builder brought in his heavy equipment and is in the process of digging the trenches for the main foundation.  So we will have activity that I can watch as the house is being built.  Our quiet little cul-de-sac won't be so quiet for a few months as the various workmen come and go.

Thanks to each and everyone of you who wished up a happy anniversary and Pat a happy birthday.

Joy, I have to admit that I never expected to live to see a 54th wedding anniversary or to be 75.  However, I am very grateful for each and every day.

Sandy, what a scary event you experience. Sure glad you didn't have to go to the ER.   I guess the Fried Pickles are something you will have to stay away from.  I don't think I ever had a friend pickle and doubt that I ever will.

Mary Ann, hope your shoulder is feeling much better today.  Does heat or ice help relieve the pain.  Pat uses an ice pack on her lower back to relieve the pain.

Mary Ann

Larry, I have to admit I haven't tried either heat or ice on my shoulder.  I read something about rotator cuff that mentioned ice.  I checked with my doctor and he suggested going back to the orthopedic surgeon I went to a couple of years ago.  He had suggested because of my age, he would not suggest surgery.  I know Gloria Z who posts in Soda Shoppe had it done several years ago and I think she still is not back to normal so I am reluctant to have surgery.  On the other hand, I am not going to stand for the constant pain either.  Tom is going to be out of town the week of the 17th and I may be foolish but I may wait until after he returns before I call the orthopedic doc.  Tom is my transportation.

We are expecting another warm one today, up in the mid 80s, maybe higher.  The lawn men are here and it is cool enough now, but I imagine they'll get in warmer weather elsewhere this afternoon.

Mary Ann

Sandy

Good Morning (afternoon here)
from the Rocky Coast of Maine.

I got up this AM and went to the grocery store
via the bus and had no issues.... Just took it
easy and went with the flow...

The temps have dropped here in Maine so
no AC is needed today.

I no longer will be eating fried pickles,
in fact,  I will be limiting myself to
things I know don't bother me.
:tissue:

All is well, I still can eat  lot of good things,
for me ..
I am wishing everyone a very good day.

MaryAnn.  Ask MaryZ about the Rotator cup Surgery. I think she had it done.
I have a little problem with mine when I lift heavy or reach doing stuff. Had it for years. I have had the shots in a couple of times but I can take a Advil just one and it so far takes care of it.
Same with wrist when overdoing. I think most comes from years of office machine. Typing, adding machines and then into computers. 45 years of this type of work just got our joints worn out I think. I am not big on replacing or cutting into anything.
Don't use him in a long time but I do have a good Orthopedic Dr. He is not for surgery until things really need it. Now he got for me different braces. Says to use them when doing things that put a strain on joints. Medicare took care of them.  I do use them if I think doing to much.  There is one  for the Shoulder he says if I would need it. I have the ones for Wrists. I use these all the time as on the computer a lot. Have one for back. Only used that one time. They custom make these.  But here if I need it.  Tore my Achilles Tendon few years ago and he fitted for that when another Dr. was saying going to do surgery. I keep that brace handy but not used it in few years.
So when you go to him ask if he will order a shoulder brace for you or give you a Prescription to take to the Medical supply store. We have 2 big ones here attached to the Hospitals.

Prevention is better than the cure I think.

Talking about weak Wrist. I had been trying to open a bottle of Gatorade all morning . Never got it open. So the mail truck was just here putting into our boxes. Big guy, so thought would just ask him to do it as he was getting back in truck. Handed it to him and he Said. Oh! thank you very much". Guess he thought I was being nice. Didn't have time to ask him to open it for me. He did open and took a quick drink so I figured that it for my Gatorade. So funny. He must have really been thirsty.
I am off to Walmarts soon so can get another one.  Bet he wondered why I was laughing on the way to the house.

Good afternoon everyone, home from a wonderful RH luncheon, desert, was the best large slice of homemade strawberry/blueberry short cake. It is so hot, radio said do not go out if you have a breathing problem.

JeanneP, I enjoyed your story about the mailman and the Gatorade.  I could not peal a potatoe the other day, my neightbor came in and peeled them for me.  I have basil cell arthritis in both thumbs.

MaryAnn, I have the same trouble with my shoulder, went to PT for 12 weeks, not much help, doctor said I was to old, as recovery takes a long time.  My friend who is 10 years younger then me had it done a years ago, and is still in pain. She had in done in NYC where thats all they do.

Good Morning from a bright and sunny Interior! Unfortunatly it isn't expected to last beyond tomorrow!

Yesterday and today I have been left in my apartment as they are laying new carpet. Yesterday the workmen tore it all up and today they are glueing and placing new carpet. I could have spent both days in the first floor main commons where they have juice and coffee and some baked goods provided by the company, but chose to remain home.

Farrah is fascinated and spends her time watching from a few feet away or scrunched up against the door looking under the door, guarding us against all workmen harm!

General Mills has issued a recall on several of its flours that were sold this year because of e Coli. That seems to be happening more and more. So far 45 people have sickened.

angelface555

Larry, I thought I had already done so, but do not see my post. I wanted to wish both you and Pat a very wonderful anniversary which it sounds as if it was! And for you to give Pat my wishes for a very happy birthday on Saturday!

And if Jeanne Lee is looking in, I'm glad that you are home again and hope you are just resting up and comfortable! We wouldn't be able to do without you, right!?  :)

Mary Ann

JeanneP, thanks for your information about rotator cuffs.  I trust the doctor I saw two years ago and he told me that at 90 years, he would not suggest surgery.  I would like to talk to him, however, because while I don’t want surgery, I also don’t want pain the rest of my life.  If the doctor would suggest a brace, I would go for that.

Jeanne, I got a kick out of your Gatorade story.

Patricia, if I was having carpet laid, Kendrick would be in any place other than where carpet was being laid.  If he doesn’t know you, he disappears.

Jeanne P. - Wonderful story about the mailman.  Call it an involuntary good deed.  :) Makes me think it would be a nice thing to do for service people who have to drive around on hot afternoons. It probably tasted much better to him than it would have to you! I have the same problem with opening jars and bottles.

Larry - Happy Belated Anniversary to you and Pat. Those notes from Scott were a gift in themselves. Your move to N. Augusta appears to have been a good thing for all of you.

Another hot day in Florida. I heard some thunder boomers awhile ago but they've passed on (and no rain).

angelface555

Maryann, I would love new carpet, but as it is, they only fix these apartments up between tenants. Last week they cleaned the walls and repainted in the hallways and common areas and this week it is laying new carpet. They started on the fifth floor and are working their way down. I think the hardest part for most will be being stuck home during nine am to seven pm, or staying out between those times. Or when they are doing the elevators and only the stairs will be available.

Farrah really feels a sense of ownership here, but as with Kendrick, any visitors and she's gone!

JeanneP

MaryAnn. I have found that these days on can't wait for a Dr. To suggest things. I bring things up and say. "What do you think of me trying this" Say my friend has one and it helps her a lot.
Some Dr. are good and doing things were Medicare with be paying their bills but when it comes to getting you something they are a little slow on writing out a prescription for it. Do it fast if it is a drug
I go to them once in awhile when in UK. they are little better. Last one took my BP and suggested he gave me a order to get a BP monitor  at the drugstore in the building. They just handed it to me for nothing.on their Social Security. Now I do have a health card for when over there . Canada does about the same.Lot to be said for Socialized Medicine at times.
JeanneP

Mary Ann

Jeanne, with the doctors I have, I find that we discuss things.  I don't know enough about medicine to suggest anything anyway.

We have a primary election in early August and I think calls are starting to come in about them.  I received three phone calls around supper time and didn't recognize any of the numbers so did not answer the phone.  They also did not leave messages.  I hate to think of what calls I'll get from now to November

We had a brief, very heavy rain about 7 pm.   The temperature dropped a good 10 degrees and hasn't recovered yet.  My outside plants got a good watering.

Hi everyone.  We are headed back up to 100 degrees this afternoon.  Nothing on the schedule for today so will just take it easy.  However, Pat just mentioned that we need to go to a fruit stand and get some of the fresh South Carolina peaches so we will do this after she eats her breakfast.

Three of the four little birds left the nest as of this morning and I expect the other one will by tomorrow morning.

Mary Ann, Pat usually finds ice does the job of easing the pain.  She has been using the ice pack for several days, first for her hip pain and now for the pain on the front of her upper leg. People who suffer from Fibromyalgia go through something they refer to cycling where different parts of the body hurt for days and then it stops and usually moves to some other area.  Hope you can find something that gives you some relief soon.

Sandy, glad your outing was without incident on the bus and store.

JeanneP, I enjoyed your story about the Gatorade and the mailman.  I would have liked to see the expression on your face when he took that sip from the bottle.

deAngel, glad you were able to attend the RH luncheon yesterday and got back home without incident in the high heat.

Patricia, hopefully you will be able to leave your apartment today.  The elevators can probably be re-floored in a matter of a few hours since not a very big space.  Perhaps they will just do one and keep the other(s) working so that you all are not trapped.

Mary Ann, we did not vote in the primary for local, county and State office this year, which is probably the first time we have not voted, but didn't know any of them.  We certainly will vote in the General Election in November, hopefully by absentee ballot.

Again thanks to your all for the kind Happy Anniversary for us and Birthday wishes for Pat.

MaryPage

Stay cool, Larry!  Hope you and Pat have a lovely day.  I'm going to have to make a trip out to my closest fresh produce stand and get some of those heavenly peaches.  I prefer the yellow Freestone variety.  No white or clingstones for me!

I have a lazy summer day in store.  Will remain mostly inside and work on a whole bunch of birthday cards I have to get out this week.

Mary Ann

At 10 am it is 75 degrees, so I don't know how far up it will go.  I stay inside mostly except to cross the street to the mailbox.

Larry, I have a call in to the doctor's office but they haven't called back yet.

MaryPage and Larry, Michigan is well known for its peaches too.  I don't buy the white ones, but I do buy what's available, either cling or freestone.

We had about two inches of rain yesterday afternoon, then it was over, humidity took over and it will be humid today.  I'll turn on the air soon.

Mary Ann

Mornin all.  We had rain last night and supposed to get more this afternoon.   Don't get too much of the wet stuff here in the desert.

Son just left with my grocery list.  He was so early this morning  that he sat out in the hall till I got myself up and about.  Woke up a bit later than usual so was not even awake when he got here.

Having my coffee now.  Think the Tuscan melons are in the stores now so hopefully he can find a nice ripe one.  Had my fill of cherries.  When August arrives the nectarines are my favorite.  After that fresh fruit will wait til next year.

Have a great day all and Hugs all around,

angelface555

Good morning from another one of our few precious sunny days.

Farrah has been getting on the bed in the mornings to say hello and probably to get me moving in the morning. She also regularly walks or lays down on the side of the tub when I'm washing up, so she's comfortable here. There are still times of skittishness, people visiting, sudden noises just out of the blue. After an hour or so, she returns, ready to socialize again.

Larry the carpet laying was only for two days on my floor, and now they are on the third or second. I don't mind staying in, there's plenty for me to do here or on the computer, I'm comfortable on my own. I wonder how it will be when they hit the first floor, however. Many of the men spend their entire days in the kitchen slash common area where there are coffee and some baked goods 24/7.

In the summer afternoons, a group of folks will be out on the benches and picnic tables in the courtyard, visiting, but the men like to be near the coffee.  It's become their hangout.

I almost pulled a Jeanne Lee today, but not quite.  I didn't have to stay in the hospital.

About 3:45 I had to blow my nose, and I had blown it often during the afternoon, and my nose started bleeding.  I couldn't get it to stop.  I pressed on my nose as I had been instructed by a nurse at a previous visit, but nothing worked.  I called down to Tom and he came up with an old towel for me to use.  And we went off to the Urgent Care Center.  I bled quite a bit while the doctor was trying to get the bleeding stopped.  I have a "bump" on the septum of the right nostril and I have been aware of it for some time.  That is what "let go".  The doctor cauterized it and made sure the bleeding had stopped before he sent me home  I cannot blow my nose for 12 hours from when I left and there are a few more restrictions, but I am now home alone.  Of course, if I have trouble, I can get in touch with Tom quickly and Dot is always nearby.  I will put a towel on my pillow just in case, in fact, I have a pillow case that Tom bled all over and I'll put that on my pillow, again just in case.

Here is it 9:17 pm and it is still light out.

Mary Ann

MaryPage

So sorry about all that, Mary Ann.  I know what that is like.  You should be right as rain by tomorrow morning.

Sweet dreams to all!

Mary Ann

So sorry to read of your adventure and hope you are fine during the night.

My daughter has been on a well earned trip away on a boat trip from Buda pest to Amsterdam where she is this week end.  I have not enjoyed flying solo and look forward to her return on Monday.

larryhanna

Hi everyone.  We are in for another 100 degree day if not higher.  Yesterday afternoon our new weather station showed it was 106 degrees on the back patio and that is in the shade.  We did go out yesterday morning and got some fresh South Carolina peaches from a farm stand several miles from us.  Yesterday afternoon I moved our insurance package to COSTCO insurance  It was not a big savings but over $100 so felt it was worth doing.  That was about it for yesterday. My plan for today is to get our main meal for the day at noontime so that Pat doesn't have to cook on her birthday.  I will make a quick stop at Aldi's as there is a small appliance they have that Pat would like to have to chop up vegetables.  I plan on staying in where it is cool the rest of the day.

MaryPage, I also prefer the Freestone variety and seldom see the white peaches.

Joan, glad you are getting some rain.  I don't remember ever seeing Tuscan melons.  We also like the nectarines and just about any citrus fruit.  I like grapefruit but not suppose to have it so don't buy it.

Patricia, it is better for the men at your apartment building to be socializing than to sit all day and watch TV.  However, I don't think I would want to spend all day doing that as like my quiet time.

Mary Ann, sure glad they were able to address your problem and you didn't have to be admitted to the hospital.

Junee, that sounds like a great trip your daughter is taking.  Was this one of the river cruises?  I know you will be a happy person to see her safely home.

wjoan

Larry, I love grapefruit also but it is a no no due to the Thyroid meds.  Miss it terribly, but it does wipe out the thyroid meds so best to stay away from it I am told.

Yes, Hal; I read something similar published here in the States some years ago, but the premise is fascinating, however it is worded.  I forget now how many the article I read previously stated there were, but we can each pretty much figure them out.  I find in my old age, I like the boy meets girl and THEY fall in love and live happily ever after one.  The bad stuff is just too much of a downer for me at present.  One thing pops up on practically a yearly basis though, and I don't see how they can continue, as I have probably read the plot twice as many times as I am old: orphaned because both parents have been killed in a plane crash, auto crash, train crash, or plague, child has a rough life of it until a mysterious unknown uncle or aunt or godmother or father appears out of the blue and gives orphan the life they were really born to!
Lovely plot, but overused.  Thanks for pointing me to that article.

Joan, I have the same problem;  maybe even more so, because grapefruit was one of my dad's favorites, and I was raised on them.  A half grapefruit, with each segment carefully cut loose by a knife and well sugared with a maraschino cherry in the center, was often the first course at breakfast at our house.  And I love grapefruit juice and a bowl of grapefruit segments.  Oh, those ruby reds!  Haven't been able to eat a bite of grapefruit for years now.  Thyroid, and also other medications.  Bummer!

wjoan

MaryPage, you would think that in this day and age they would find a way for us to have grapefruit.  Love the Ruby eed ones also

JeanneP

Grapefruit seems to be one that you can't drink or eat if on certain Medications. Wonder why?

MaryAnn . That blowing you nose must have caused the bleeding. Amazing how blood spreads and look to be so much. I have had nose bleeds from being a child but seems to have tapered of now. My ENT. did some kind of operation up my nose to help sinus problems 3 years ago. Not had a nose bleed since.  I used it to trick people for years. Wanted out of School early I could just shake my head and out the blood would flow. Got my brother to do anything as if he didn't I would again shake my head. Say that he hit me. Use to scare my husband and girls all the time. Dr. never could give a answer as to why it did it so easy.
I do take Allergy meds part of the year and a spray. May be this is what stops the nose bleeds now. Back then they didn't have meds for Allergies. You just put up with them.
JeanneP

Mary Ann

Well, I have a new "thing" today.  While getting dressed this morning I noticed my right shoulder was very discolored, purple, pink and in between.  Yesterday the doctor looked at it but did not say anything to me.  I showed it to Tom this morning and he said it was internal bleeding.  He called his sil (Jan, Terry's wife, who is an RN) and she suggested I talk to the doctor on call at my doctor's office.  I ended up talking to a triage nurse who asked a lot of questions and suggested I make an appointment with my regular doctor.  When we finished, I went to the computer and have requested an appointment.  The doctor's office will get back to me Monday and we'll take it from there.  I do have an appointment with an orthopedic doctor in two weeks because of the rotator cuff and arthritis in my right shoulder.

I've had more happen to me in the last 10 years than what happened in the previous 82.

Mary Ann

JeanneP

MaryAnn. Was you shoulder hurting when it got a pick colour? Had you just gotten up?
