MaryAnn, I'm glad you're feeling better. When you mentioned the ninety-two-year-olds, I had the impression of someone getting a bowling alley strike, one pin and then another.... ;)

Sometimes I believe Farrah must be bored as she doesn't play with her toys as much as she spends time sleeping. I try to remember to play with her the expected ten minutes daily, vets recommend but don't always succeed. However, if you look down from above, she is still concave rather than convex.

She is smart as she will often go to the yoga mat and tell me WIN which is her word for treats. In the morning she will come up on the bed and rub against me and lick my arm in a show of affection to get me in the mood to get up and feed her!  ;)

I hope you can have this woman or someone come in and clean for you or even as Joan said, only monthly. I am coming to the conclusion that I need this type of assistance as well.

larryhanna

It is now 3:40 and we are in the midst of a lightning and thunder event and now we are getting a nice soaking shower which has now turned into a downpour.  We just had a momentary lose of power but didn't shut down the computer.

Mary Ann, glad you are getting someone to help with the cleaning.  Happy Birthday to Tom.

MaryPage, these are aluminum windows and it is the entire bottom section with the frame around it.  They are insulated with two panes of glass.  They tip out and can easily be removed and replaced.  At our other house we had to replace some glass and it was much more expensive to do so with a glass company.  This window replacement cost just $38.  I was shocked as expected it to be much higher.

deAngel, I think I have finally recovered from the other morning when I trimmed one of the bushes in the back yard and took the trimmings to the street.  That just about did me in and won't do it anymore.  If my son isn't up to doing it I am certain I can ask my new neighbor to quickly do the job as they have already offered to help us if needed.  They also have a 17 year old son who probably would like to make $5.  It isn't a big job but just too much for me to do but had to find out by experience.  Sorry your leg is hurting you today.  Great neighbors are indeed a blessing.

Joan, I agree with you on having someone come and do periodic cleaning.  We have had to have this service for several years and it is nice to have the entire house cleaned up at once. We find that every two weeks works well for us.

I am a lazy good for nothing without a domestic bone in my body, so I have budgeted for cleaning ladies for years and years now.  Did so back when I was working.  Some people spend money on stuff, clothes and the like, but I like services.  I love gardening, though, and still keep my 22 potted plants outside going on my own.  I used to have a service come to mow the lawn and treat it and so forth, and trim the privet hedge, back when I owned a house with a lawn and hedge, that is.  My cleaning ladies come every other Monday, now.  Condo fees pay the other outside work.

Mary Ann

MaryPage, I seem not to be too domestically inclined, never was.  However, when I had a house and lived alone, I did keep things going.  But this condo is smaller than I should have come to and I've never adapted to the smaller space.

Patricia, I am feeling somewhat better, however, I don't want to exert much because then I get tired and weak.  I feel sorry for the cat because I can't get down on the floor and play with him.  He's only three (July 17) and doesn't get much exercise, in fact, he sleeps a lot.  I do make it a point to go on the deck with him, not to play, but to give him some attention.  I know there are loads of little old ladies who have cats, but I don't think I should be one of them.  I am not going to give him up, though, unless Annie can take him - and at present she cannot.

I just returned from my brunch out with friends, not something I can afford to do a lot of but it was interesting and nice to get together with friends.

This place is one of the restaurants in a local hotel. It's the type where waiters carry napkins over their arms and you need a reservation. The Sunday brunch is locally famous and you almost need to donate blood to get in.

But today was nice. A server carved prime rib, other meats, vegetables, rolls, several salads, garnishes and what not. But I had a craving for fruit and there was a small table devoted to that alone. Grapes, apples, cherries, oranges, peaches, papaya and pears to only name a few. I loaded up and almost expected the server to ask if I needed a bag with that? Ruth, one of my friends was astonished that I didn't want prime rib.

And yes I came home with a small selection of whole fruit. At the price of the brunch, I didn't feel the least guilty and I had ice water rather than wine so felt quite virtuous actually.

Junee, thanks for thinking about me.  We oldsters have to stick together.  I know I'm old but even with this bleeding spell and its aftereffects, I don't feel old.  I know you're older than I am so you know what we're going through.  You're doing fine!

Patricia, sounds like a great lunch.  While I like fruit, I also like prime rib!

Mary Ann

Hi everyone.  We have a very nice morning starting out at 72 degrees. The high is suppose to be about 92 with another chance of heavy rain this afternoon. Yesterday afternoon we had a 30-40 minute deluge of rain with about 1 3/8th inches falling and then later another half inch fell.

Scott's phone died a couple of days ago and so Pat wanted to give him back the phone that our DIL had.  It is a smart phone and she really wasn't using it.  So last evening, before dark, we made a quick trip down to where he works and gave him the phone. We also got to spend a few minutes with him as they were not busy and he could take a break.  This afternoon, after we have lunch, we will go to the phone store if it is open and get her a new basic phone.

We will go to Sunday School and Church this morning.  I am once again bringing the Devotional reading to the class.  Our Church sponsors a youth camp each summer where the youth spend a week and do repair work for people who are not able to do it themselves nor can afford to have it done.  This is done in cooperation with the local United Fund that pays for the materials needed, such as shingles or bathroom fixtures.  The youth will be in the church service this morning.  There are several of these summer camps over the State.  The youth stay at the church during the night and have their breakfast and evening meals there.  Our fine minister has organized and directed several of these camps over the years.

MaryPage, just because you preferred not to do your own cleaning certainly doesn't make you lazy as I am sure you worked hard at whatever job you had.  Like you this is a priority in our budget.  Glad you still enjoy tending your potted plants.  I have also enjoyed doing that this year, especially the flowers.

Mary Ann, I know from Stacey's experience in very small apartments it is hard to have a place to store a lot of things out of sight and thus housework is hard.

Patricia, glad you could enjoy such a nice buffet with friends.  It has been years since we ate at a hotel dining room buffet but they were always good.  One year when we lived in Maryland we got reservations at the Marriott for the Easter brunch.  We also ate at the Marriott dining room several times where we used to live in Georgia, but that hotel was sold.  I am afraid I would have had to have a slice of that prime rib had I been with you.

Junee, like you I feel blessed for each day I wake up.  As you say "Tomorrow is another day and a fresh page in our lives".  We lose the joy of today when we stay focused on the past or on what the future might bring.  It took me a long time to learn that lesson.

Larry, you say you are leading the devotional today - this last sentence of yours could be the basis for a discussion.  Or at least meditation.

Hi to everyone!
MaryAnn, good to see you getting around a little bit & hoping you continue to improve.

Patricia, still enjoying your kitty stories!

Junee, glad to see you are getting thru your days.  We all have to keep trying to do that.

Now MaryPage, I find it very hard to believe you are/were a lazy good for nothing.  I have read some of your previous posts that tell me otherwise.  Tsk! Tsk!

Joan, and the rest of you lucky people, I wish I had a monthly cleaning woman.  It is not that I can't afford it (if one wants something bad enough, they find a way to afford it), I just haven't investigated where to get one.  But I am sure doing a lot of thinking, now that I cannot get down on my hands and knees, nor can I get on a ladder to reach up high. Things are pretty clean in between.   ;)

You all have a good day ~

Top of the mornin' to you, Miss Shirley!

You are up early, as usual, Larry!

We had a good hard rain last night, and are experiencing one of those delicious mornings.  But it also has all the signs of getting quite hot and humid as the hour hands move on all the clocks.  The early Sunday morning bay is splendidly empty of boats, but I expect it will be full of white sails by early afternoon.

My granddaughter Melissa turns 37 today.  Impossible!  TRUE!  I cannot figure why I am still lurking around, what with all these generations pouring into the family tree charts!  That whole branch of the family went to an Orioles game last weekend: Anne & Greg, Paige & Alex with Ezra (5), Melissa & Adam with Bella (13), Will (7) and Miles (1).  Will wanted to run the bases with about a bazillion thousand other children, one at a time, afterwards.  Ezra was worn out, so Paige and Alex went home (they live in Baltimore, so home was not far away), while the others stayed and waited in line with Willem.  Oh, my gosh, but he was excited!.  He took off in a rush from first base, and then, half way to second, ran back and tapped first, just to make sure.  When he finally got to home plate, he stepped on it grinning like a banshee, then ran back a little ways and, in running towards home this time he THREW himself on the ground and SLID in!  All this was reported to Debi and Becky and me by his doting grandmother, my daughter Anne, at lunch last week.

Have a great day.  I'm planning on a quiet one.

Mary Ann

I'm up, but I'm not sure I'm attem yet.  I haven't had breakfast because I want to wait to see if Tom brings me anything.  If not, I'll raid the refrigerator.  Our day is overcast, however, it isn't raining.

I'm watching the Open and my two favorite players are tied for the lead - Stenson and Mickelson.  I'll be back later after I wake up!!!

Good afternoon, and I am not even going to mention the weather, as you all know what it is.

Junee, it is always wonderful to see your post.

MaryAnn, glad to see you are getting around more,  I will have to set still all day with my leg up, I guess.  last night it started to bleed real heavy, this morning just a little, I had set at the PC couple of hours. guess I should have been keep the leg up.  A friend from RH's came to change the bandage.  She also Vol. on the ambulance.  I did not take and asprin last night, also still have not taken the blood thinner this morning.

Patricia, I am with the others, I would have had that prime rib, and maybe a peach.

MaryAnn. You sound to be feeling much better. Loosing blood most probably why you feeling week. It replaces itself fast they say.  (You need a couple bottles of Guinness).  The English Cure all. Does work though.

Was a artical in our paper today explaining how as we age . Specially over 80 that we can bruise and bleed  so easy . I know I get a bruise from just a tap anymore.  So many also take the blood thinner meds. They don't help the heavy flow if you cut the skin.

Was getting ready to leave but then it turned dark and within 15 min. Such a storm. Still going and so I guess I will stay home.
Time to put Don's Sunday concert on. I thought I would have done my running and been back by now.
Sure put the temps down. LIke sleeping better without the A/C on.

Sandy, I like Jason Day, too.  MaryPage, I don't know who James Norton is.

I just finished watching the most exciting golf match.  In a way, I wanted Phil Mickelson to win because he's 46 years old and with each year walking 54 holes in four days gets harder.  But Stenson is 40 so he's no spring chicken either.  I like a lot of the younger players and would be happy whoever won.

Jeanne, I am feeling much better but I'm still not back yet - if I can get back.  I don't do much, but I try to do something constructive, even if it's to put the cat out on the deck and let him back in.  I know blood does replenish but I don't know how soon.  I don't feel as wobbly as I did.  As far as bruises are concerned, I have two doozies on my arm where they tried to take blood and failed and put an IV in the other.  I see another one on my right wrist and I don't know what that is for.  I know our skin gets thinner as we age.

Good afternoon from yet another rainy day in theInterior!

It's funny about the fruit. When I have a craving, I usually believe that I must be down or low from a mineral or vitamin contained in what I'm craving.  My friends were also surprised about the prime rib and one even offered to get me another plate, in case I suppose, she believed I'd forgotten the meat. We were out again this morning to visit yet another friend and had some rosehip tea and cannolis while there.

Farrah is very talkative now and will answer back with sounds, not meows or the usual kitty sounds, and often goes over to the yoga mat and loudly announces, "WIN" which is Farrah speak for treats. I'm ashamed to say the sixteen-ounce container I purchased on the 28th, has only a bottom covering now. It was supposed to last until the end of the month.  :-[

Not much else going on here. I did finish my last graphic for my PSP class and did some piddling around and back to visiting with you folks now. A very quiet day, no golf here.

MaryPage

Mary Ann, James Norton is a gorgeous English actor.  He plays an Anglican priest in Grantchester on PBS (a BBC production) and was Prince Andrei in War & Peace, among other things.  He REALLY makes my heart go pitter patter, or is that what little feet are said to do?  Anyway, take my word for it, he IS a hunk!

Well, it seems he has a sweetheart, but I am glad for him.  He loses the Love of His Life in Grantchester, and also in War and Peace.  This actress played his sister in War and Peace (which was just SO great, and you can buy it on DVDs now), and the two of them LOOK as though they belong together.  Oh, my heart!  If he would just SMILE at me, I would most likely perish on the spot, totally happy!

Mary Ann

MaryPage and Patricia, I looked at the James Norton link and he is cute, isn't he!  I don't watch those plays so was unaware of him.  I think I have no favorite public personality.  Is age catching up with me?

It's been a warm day here today but good old a/c!

Sandy, such a beautiful looking family. Were they at an amusement park or a fair?

MaryAnn, even when I was younger, I liked the music or the acting or the whatever, but could never settle down with a particular person, actor or musician. I loved the archetypical "Tall Dark & Hansome, typified by Richard Boone in Have Gun Will Travel, Sean Connery,  Dean Martin, Frank Sinatra and an actor named Rudy in the television show, Combat.

My husbands were both well over six feet, green eyed, black hair and quite handsome. The trouble is, they thought so too.

Farrah is unhappily going through treat withdrawal and has decided she doesn't like her Fancy Feast cat food any longer. She is in the wrong place for those types of behaviors. Until the seventeenth, she'll find nothing but coal as in dry food in her stocking, uh dish.

Mary Ann

Sandy- such a good looking family.  Fe is growing fast.

Patricia, Kendrick gets only dry cat food with treats at night.  A treat is one that is not his regular dry food but something similar, only more moist.  Perhaps if I did the shopping I might buy something extra, but poor Tom does yeoman duty anyway and I hate to ask him to do more.

It's 72 degrees here already so I think we'll have a warm one today.

Mary Ann

Hi everyone.  Another hot day here.  This has already been an interesting morning.  I had to have some routine blood work done for an appointment I have on Friday so went to the Hospital Lab at little after 7 am.  As I was standing in line to check in I glanced around and there sat our son, Scott.  He was shocked to see me and I was to see him.  When we finished at the lab we stopped at the place I have coffee on Thursdays and had a nice omelet breakfast.  It was quality time totally unplanned. I brought half of my omelet home for Pat's breakfast.

We will go to the AT&T store next this morning to get Pat a new phone and then I plan on attending my normal Monday noon meeting.

Shirley, thanks for the nice comment about what I wrote.  What I wrote is what I sincerely believe and the way I try to live my life. I encourage you to find a housekeeper.  We found ours by asking the guys I have coffee who they use.

MaryPage, it sounds like your family had a great time at the ball game.

Mary Ann, I didn't get to watch any of the British Open as it was on so early.  This weekend there is a major tourney here in the USA and I will try to watch some of it.  It sounds like the last round was quite a battle for the win.

deAngel, glad you didn't have to return to the ER and the friend could dress the wound for you.

JeanneP, glad you didn't have damage from the bad storm.

Patricia, like you I like almost all fruit.  I also like most vegetables raw much better than cooked.
