Larry.  Yes you have to buy Pat that new phone if she wants to go onto the "PokeyMon" or what ever they are calling it.  People have gone crazy. Running around town here . i have no idea what it is all about. Seems to be causing fights though.

It is as Dark as night here at the Moment.  Storming all night and now starting up again. Thunder and lightning something awful.  Lots of trees down and few roofs damaged but the worst one was Saturday when a large company that  has been in business 76 year. Sort of takes in damaged cars, Old cars. place to get  parts and things. Has about 80 people working there.  A fire started and  completely burned down  the whole 5 building. Main office that had files covering 30 thousand Titles  . They take in a few thousand cars a month.  They will rebuild they say.  Rain just didn't come in time.

Hope nothing serious for son as he was getting blood taken.  About time for my Yearly Blood Panel soon. It try to do it early also . Have to go 3 days prior. Just down the road . Not eating for 12 hours not easy for me. and so make it about 7:30am.

Larry, what was so nice about the ending of the golf match was that Mickelson and Stenson are friends, often play golf together.  And there they stood, arms around each other, no rivalry.  When they were interviewed afterward, each complimented the other; it was refreshing.

I received word today that my deceased nephew's widow will marry again after the first of the year.  We're happy for her because she lives in the Detroit area, across the state from us so she is not included in the casual get-togethers we have occasionally.  I know we will lose track of her eventually, not on purpose, but she will have another life.  We'll probably keep in touch at Christmas.

Marilyne

Patricia and Mary Ann - I have to chime in here on the cat discussion.  My cat, Winnie, ate nothing but dry kibble for many years, but as he aged, it became difficult for him to chew the kibble.  I started buying Fancy Feast, but he seems to be tiring of that brand, so I've been trying other brands from Petco.  Fancy Feast is reasonably priced, but the others - not so much!  He likes Nutro Max Cat, and a couple of other expensive brands . . . Of course!

He'll be 18 years old in August, so I look for the cans that say "older cats", or "12+ years". I want to cater to his needs from now on.  He is still very active, and alert, and seems to have lots of energy.  His hearing is good, but I can tell that his eye sight is poor.  He has bad arthritis in his back legs, so it's hard for him to jump up on anything higher than a standard chair or couch, or to sit with his rear end on a flat surface.

angelface555

About the feline food of wet versus dry. I used to believe that dry was better as it would also act as a sort of tooth cleaner and that wet food might rot their teeth since cats don't usually brush or floss!  ;).  Now vets are saying wet is better so it is like everything, changing and then changing back again.

I leave a serving of dry out and change it every couple of days as Farrah, won't eat it if it sits out more than that which is probably instinctive. I first tried 6-ounce cans, but it was wasted as Farrah eats little servings and won't touch it after it has been in the fridge.

So I went to Fancy Feast, which is the three ounce, but she only eats the cake variety and now is turning up her nose at that. The FF is 30 cents a can here and for $6.25, I can usually find a box of 24 cans which will do me for the month.  Others are $1.25 a can.

However, if she insists on changing her mind and wanting two or more packs of 16 ounces of treats for $8.25 a canister, that isn't going to fly. She might find herself eating dry period with a can of wet for an occasional treat! Farrah's treats are small pellets that are said to be crunchy on the outside and soft on the inside.

Winnie sounds like my two old furbuddies who died in January 2011 within three days of each other. They had been together since they were kittens. Beijing, an apple head Siamese and Peter, an orange tabby, depended on each other and were 22 years and 20 years respectively and indoor only.

Mary Ann

Marilyne, thank you for the information about cat food.  I'll see if the small Fancy Feast cans are available at our store.  Kendrick has been doing well with the dry food and hasn't refused any yet.  His "mother" (Tom's daughter) got a deal on some food at a local supermarket and bought two large bags that I really have no place to store them.  The deal was in price, not in brand or quality.

Two and a half days of heavy, steady rain, and we are under a weather watch for the river runoff, uprooted trees, brush, etc. to come through the valley of the five rivers, primarily the Yukon and the Tanana rivers. I wish I could send all of this down to you folks needing rain. Do you want it? We got it!

Farrah isn't taking too kindly to the new stark regime. She just came over to my computer chair, rose up and placed her front legs on my thigh and cried loudly and somewhat hysterically, "WIN!!"and that's my day....At least she isn't  afraid of me!       ;D

And how was your day?

Cats are funny. So far, my two will eat just about anything. My best friend has five, but only two will eat most of what he trys on them. He is constantly on the hunt for something that appeals to all. They definitely don't like the pate. That may change in the future; previous experiences tell me that it usually does.

Since my Oscar has allergies, I try to feed him and Lucy food with no or less corn or wheat or dyes in it. It doesn't help with his snotty nose, but it does seem to help keep him from scratching and pulling his fur out.

I don't know what it is about Meow Mix and Fancy Feast, but the cats love them. I refuse to give mine any of the Meow Mix (dry) because my previous cats went nuts on it, but barfed a lot more after eating it. I don't know why, but it could be the dyes they use or it could just be that they liked it so much they gobbled it down too fast.

Hi everyone.  The day is starting out with bright and sunny skies.  We will likely see in the mid 90's this afternoon.  We just escaped a severe thunderstorm late yesterday afternoon at was just North of us.  It does look like there was a little rain during the night but no storm.

Nothing on the schedule for today, which is welcome after the busy day yesterday.  The crew has just arrived to lay the cement block on the foundation for the new home across the street.  The cement mixer just arrived and there are five or six men over there to do the job.

I did get the results of the blood tests I had yesterday and my PSA count was up less than 1/2 point and my cholesterol is well under control.  So I was pleased with the results.

JeanneP, the new phone Pat got was just a basic phone without any apps.  She really didn't like the smart phone.  I would certainly hate to give up my smart phone but I won't be doing the "PokeyMon" thing.  What a waste of time hunting for something that really isn't there.  From what I am reading people are doing stupid things as they hunt for whatever it is they try to find.  Hope your storm yesterday did no further damage to your town or your property.  The fire you mentioned will certainly affect many people's lives in your community.  Our son was just having routine blood tests preparatory to an upcoming visit with his cardiologist, who is also the cardiologist that both Pat and I.

Mary Ann, while people play golf together they still are playing individually against themselves. I expect there is a lot of friendships among the players.

Patricia, it must be very soggy up your way with all the rain you have been having.  I just now noticed your winning photo at the top of the discussion and it is very pretty.

Larry, one thing we have is water, five rivers in and around town provide plenty of that along with the necessary hot springs, ponds, lakes and streams. And trees! We are covered in trees!    :)

A new alert came out just now which is simply the same as the one from Monday, "SPECIAL WEATHER STATEMENT UNTIL 12PM AKDT TUE
... HIGH WATER ON RIVERS AND STREAMS...
FROM 1 TO 3 INCHES OF RAIN FELL OVER CENTRAL INTERIOR SINCE SUNDAY. ANOTHER INCH OF RAIN IS POSSIBLE IN THIS AREA THROUGH TUESDAY. THIS INCLUDES THE BEAVER CREEK... CHATANIKA... LITTLE CHENA... AND TANANA RIVER BASINS. IN ADDITION TO THE RAIN... VERY WARM TEMPERATURES LATE LAST WEEK RESULTED IN SIGNIFICANT GLACIAL RUNOFF INTO THE TANANA RIVER AND THIS PULSE OF HIGHER WATER IS CURRENTLY MOVING DOWN THE RIVER.
RIVERS AND STREAMS IN THIS AREA ARE EXPECTED TO RISE TO BANKFULL LEVELS THIS EVENING AND HIGH WATER LEVELS ARE EXPECTED TO PERSIST THROUGH THE END OF THE WEEK AS THE SURGE OF WATER MOVES DOWNRIVER.
A FLOOD ADVISORY HAS BEEN ISSUED FOR THE CHENA RIVER UPSTREAM OF THE MOOSE CREEK DAM. DETAILED INFORMATION CAN BE FOUND IN THE FLOOD ADVISORY STATEMENT.
PEOPLE NEAR THE RIVERS IN THIS REGION SHOULD BE PREPARED FOR HIGH WATER AND INCREASED DEBRIS MOVING DOWN THE RIVER."

The Nenana river is running full.   http://www.borealisbroadband.net/vid-nenanamega.htm

Meowmix and Fancy Feast have lots of sugar and fats which cats will prefer over a more healthy diet, sound familiar? The problem is cash & SS, FF is 30 cents a can, healthy foods start at 1.25 a can.

My younger sister has an eight-year-old Fox Terrier that is barely holding on with multiple allergies. He looks shredded and has a special diet and multiple medications, poor thing.

angelface555

EDIT:

Farrah just came and sat by me. I looked down and asked, "What you say?" and she replied sadly, "Win."

Marilyne

Patricia - I must have missed something??  Why is Farrah sad?

angelface555

"Win" is her word for treats as opposed to "WIN-WIN" which is enthused and  meant for breakfast or dinner, depending. I am limiting her treats to almost not existent.

I had a coupon for Purina's Beyond canned food so I bought two. They are both grain free. Yay! At 1.09 a can here, the only way I could see my way to buy it was with the buy 1/get 1 free coupon which brought it down to what I pay for the Sheba (cans). My local grocery store has now discontiuned the canned Sheba. I'll have to go the whole way over to Petsmart or Wegman's now to get it. Both are on a very busy highway that I don't like to travel most times of the day.

Hi everyone.  Another clear day is underway on this Wednesday.  The cement block layers at hard at work already this morning after a long day out in the sun yesterday.  They likely will finish there job today and the next phase of the project, will begin.  Late yesterday afternoon we went down to Pizza Hut and I had the Tuesday night buffet and Pat had their chicken wings, which she really liked.  We came home and watched an hour or so of the convention and then decided we had heard enough speeches for one day.

Pat has an appointment to get her hair cut this morning and I have nothing on the schedule.  This being Wednesday we look forward to some time with Scott probably this evening.  I don't know whether Pat will want to eat at home this evening or go out for a good late lunch with Scott.  However, I am guessing it will be to stay home and eat this evening.

Yesterday I found a customer service number to call about my failed garden hose.  I spoke with a very pleasant man and he sent me the requirements for replacing the hose under the warranty.  This involved cutting off both ends of the hose and taking a picture of it showing the fitting so they could prove it was their hose.  Secondly I needed to submit a picture of the hose failure, which I took several days ago.  Lastly they asked for proof of purchase, which I had in my Amazon order archive and just copied it.  I submitted they these photos along with a brief description of the problem.  Within thirty minutes I heard back from the man that he was putting in the order to send me a new hose.  The hardest part was cutting off the ends of the hose but I accomplished it.  So that problem should be solved.

Patricia, it sounds like you would never have to worry about a lack of water.  Farrah must think you are torturing her with the lack of treats.  You have spoiled her already and it is obvious that you have enjoyed and still enjoy every moment of it.  Farrah is a great companion for you and you for her.  Thanks for the link to the Andrew Lloyd Webber videos.  He has always been one of my favorite composers.  He and Tim Rice have made a good combination.  You probably know that he has a brother who is a classical musician of some renown.

MarsGal, it is frustrating when stores change what we are used to, especially when they discontinue a product we like.

Marilyne, nice to see your posting.

This morning I showered and washed my hair on my own - the first time since my nose bleeds.  I think I got along fine.  Plans are in the mill to get another grab bar for getting out of the tub and maybe another for the side of the tub.

Today we will go to the Score again for lunch.  I think Dot has not been there before.  If everyone is there, there will be seven of us.  This is the place where they have brought in beach sand and palm trees and we sit along water - a man-made lake.  All the comforts of home!

Mary Ann

Joy

Mary Ann,  so glad that you are feeling better and were able to have your shower with no problems.  I can understand why you still feel a little nervous.

I just googled the restaurant that you mentioned where you are going for lunch.  I would just love to be able to go with you.  Love the idea of the beach theme.  And, the menu looks great.  I noticed that they use "old bay seasoning" on their steamed shrimp.  That is a very popular seasoning here in my area.  And, I also noticed they have the fried pickles, and the lobster rolls.  Really sounds a lot like the menus in some of our restaurants here in the Chesapeake Bay area of  Maryland.  Sure wish I lived near there.  I am sure that would become one of my favorite places to go.,  Everything sounds delicious !!!!   Enjoy !!!

Good afternoon.   Jeanne P.  after a couple of very hot days, it is in the mid 70's.  I sat on the porch this moning had my coffee, and read the paper.  I see the next 4 day will be back to being very hot and highhumidity.

Larry, after you did all that work, I am happy to see you will get a new hose.

MaryAnn, hope you keep feeling better. My neighbor insisted on coming over  yesterday when I took my first shower after getting stitches in my leg Friday night.  I am not suppose to  not get it wet for 10 days, not easy.  Bought a pad that was suppose to keep it dry. $8. for 4.  I have two grab bars, and also Cyriel's old walker  beside the tub, that I can grab hold of. When I get out.

Patricia, who is the boss to day ;) When I say "Good morning" to Taffy, it sound like she says morning.  The vet told me to give her soft food.  Because of  hair balls. She like dry food better, guess that what she got at the shelter. She also likes Meow Mix, and Fancy Feast, but only if it has gravey or sauce.  She wil only eat Fancy Feast dry food .  I have tried other. She turn her nose up.

JeanneP, read your first "Letters to the Editor".  Interesting and well written.  I sure hope we don't start having that problem down here.

Mary Ann

Jeanne, it seems they have you coming and going.  I did not renew my tabs since I sold the car but I was able to renew my drivers license by e-mail and I did that.  I had my new license within two weeks, maybe sooner.  I renewed the license - just in case.  I hope your tabs arrive soon.

We had a nice lunch and there were five of us.  We ate outside.  I don't know what the others had but I had broccoli-cheddar soup and house salad.  Both were very good.  I had thought of getting fish and chips again because it was so good a week ago, but decided to go with the soup and salad.  It was warm and I ended up in the sun as the sun moved around, but I'm no worse for wear.

Good Morning from the Interior. Cloudy this morning, black clouds and wind about with 80% of rain. The storm surge passed through town late afternoon and all the rivers are full to their banks. Thank goodness, for the dam system put in after the 1967 floods.

We are due to have rain until this Sunday and then partly cloudy/partly sunny. Since August is almost always rainy, I think we've seen the last of anything above the mid-seventies.   :'(

If it holds true to the past, which is doubtful with three summers of rain, August will be cloudy with rain and September, cooler, crisp and sunny with the start of fall.

Farrah was surprised and unhappy this morning when I awoke, showered and ground my coffee beans. She kept running to the yoga mat, calling "WIN" and then to her dishes on the kitchen mat, saying "WIN-Win" so piteously. But she is stuck with dry until the end of the month and I am not going to rush out and buy her another lb container of treats until the end of the month. Right now she is back under her bed probably sulking at having only dry to eat!

Larry, if you look at a map of Fairbanks, we are surrounded by little blue tendrils. We are in what is termed an arboreal forest and watershed valley.  Which is why, years ago when they did school cutbacks and took out the swimming programs, I was very saddened but not surprised. Here there is a younger crowd, thirty is the average medium and the attitude is sink or swim to use a very poor pun!

Our main crime here is petty as it is called and mainly exacerbated by drinking and or drugs. Also, there is a huge Native presence, so we also have the issue of young people adrift, cut off from their culture. They come in from the surrounding villages for medical appointments or just to get out from under  family and friends eyes  to kick up their heels and party in a larger anonymous city.

MaryAnn I am so glad you are doing better and are back to your OTL schedule! Enjoy!

We have two short grab bars on the outside corners of the tub and one long one along the back bolted in metal and I have definitely made use of them!

Good morning everyone!

Marilyne

I envy all of you who talk about storms and rain, and dams that are filled and spilling over!   Just the usual here in Northern California . . . dry and sunny, with nary a drop of moisture.  Of course it never rains here between April and December, but our rainy season, (Dec. through March), used to be fairly reliable. It no longer is . . .  in spite of the much touted El Nino, last winter.

Mary Ann, I'm happy to see that you're feeling much better, and able to get out for a nice lunch.

Gloria de - We've missed hearing from you in the Television/Movie discussion?  Please visit us again soon, and let us know what you're watching?

Patricia - Awww, poor Farrah! :'(

JeanneP

MaryAnn. You are lucky you can get your License renewed that easy.  Here after the age of 80 you have to go and take a road Test that good for 2 years and then after 84 take one every year.  So crazy as like myself I don't put a lot of miles on a car anymore as not driven to Texas or places in last 5 years.  It is a real pain going up to do it. Always seems to be cold and raining when I take it.
Before she passed 3 years ago my daughters MIL. (Texas) just got hers renewed and it was for 10 years. She was 85 at that time and had damaged 3 cars in 2 years. Should not have been even driving.  Illinois laws are crazy.  Don't take them away for Drunken Driving but will for getting Old.

I read in here a few times a day but rarely have anything to contribute.  So, just checking in.
Hugs all around,

Good evening, did not have to have the A/C on to day.  Have the house open.

WJoan, always glad to see your post. Sometimes I feel like I say a lot of nothing, I just enjoy hearing from my cyber friends, the computer, is my outlet to the outside world.

Marilyne, I have missed all of you in T&M, I thought it was gone like spell check. Please let me know how to find you.

JeanneP, My licence is good until 2018 also.  My DIL checks my driving when she comes to visit. She said I am still OK, but as I have wrote before I now only drive to STop & Shop large supermarket, with my bank in it. I go once a week, a neighbor generaly goes with me, and brings a shopping cart out for me to lean on,  I take my time, walk up and down every aile for exersise, which means I sometimes buy something I do not need. :) It is good for this old mind to be on my own.  Of course I also meet people I know, and do a little good gossiping.  By the way the picture on my licence was taking 20 years ago.   So much for ID

Click for Riverhead, NY Forecast

Lindacer.  Now how can your picture be the same on your license. Don't they take a new photo every time you go to get a new license?  How can anyone use it as a ID if 20 years older. I know Mine sure doesn't look like I did when 60 years old.  Even your passport pictures have to change every 10 years.

Had a cool morning yesterday, so I mowed the front yard and part of the back. Going to finish this morning which is also cool. The next week is going to be hot, hot, hot again, and I saw they are calling for one of the nights to get no lower than 80.

Ordered a laptop the other day. I am expecting it today. Excited! This will be my first laptop.

MaryPage

Good morning to all.  We are expecting a full week ahead, starting today, of a rather dreadful heat wave.  I thank heavens for the lovely breezes off of the bay, and plan to just make a quiet week at home of it.

Well, Our Rebecca flew out of here midday yesterday and landed safely back in Kansas City by a hair, as it were!  She JUST missed being part of the huge computer glitch that grounded Southwest yesterday.  Becky misses us already, but is happy to be home with her husband Sam and their 3 Bichons.  She will catch up with my granddaughter Jenny and her 4 children, Emily, Sam, Simon and Max, today.  They are experiencing a heat wave, as well, but lack the relief from bay breezes.

Keep cool, everyone!

larryhanna

Hi everyone on an overcast but warm Thursday morning here in South Carolina.  The outside work of watering the plants is done for today and the trash is at the street along with the bush trimming from the two bushes we have in our back yard.

MaryPage, glad that Rebecca didn't get caught in the computer glitch and have to spend countless hours waiting at the airport.  The Kansas City airport is quite a ways out North of Kansas City so when you get there you still have a fairly good drive to get home.

Today will be my normal Thursday schedule with coffee and the Wisdom class this morning and then a quiet afternoon and evening.

We had an enjoyable evening with Scott and Pat made a delicious dinner including a great dish of mac and cheese.  We gave most of the left over to Scott and he really liked it.  He enjoys his mother's cooking but he is also a good cook.  He moved my outside weather sensor to the front porch so hope to get a more accurate reading.  He also trimmed the other bush that needed trimming.  I did the other one last week but decided it was just too much for me anymore.

Mary Ann, glad you will be getting more grab bars for the tub.  I am a firm believer in them and find in the last few months I am depending on them more and more while in the shower.  If you can't go to the beach it is nice the beach was brought to you all at the restaurant.

Joy, I bet you have a lot of good eating places for crab bakes and other good things from the Bay and ocean.

JeanneP, it sounds like your temperatures will be much like what we have had for quite a few days.  Our high today is predicted to be only 89 degrees.  As I checked the weather report just now I see there is a severe thunderstorm in our county North of us headed South.  However, this is a very large county and it will probably miss us.

Patricia, I sure would enjoy a few mid-seventies days but it will be several weeks before we see that again.  Our morning start out in the mid-seventies and it is up from there.  I remember the large population of Native Alaskans living in Anchorage years ago.

deAngel, hope you can stay in where it is cool during the hot weather headed your way. It is nice that your DIL advises you on your driving.  Glad you can still get to the supermarket on your own or with a neighbor.

MarsGal, it sounds like you got your lawn mowed on the right day.  I bet you will love your laptop.  I always find it exciting to get a new computer.

Marilyne, I sure wish you all could get some much needed moisture out your way. Are there any of the fires close by to where you live?

Joan, glad you checked in so we know you are OK.

Mary Ann

At 9:15, it is already 80 degrees and supposed to go to the low 90s before the day is over.  I was able to sit on the deck last evening (about 9:30 or so) and it was very nice.  I can sit on the deck earlier in the day as long as there is shade, but when the temp is way up there, I have no desire to be there.

It's Thursday; I can tell because our lawns are being mowed.  The men do a good job.

Mary Ann
