Oldiesmann: Finally got the AmazonBot situation under control. I basically changed some server settings to tell AmazonBot that it's not allowed to access anything on the site. That should fix the speed issues we've been experiencing lately

Joy. Take a good look at Episode No. 2 on the "Canal Journeys." It does the Manchester Canal. Goes right through my home town and takes in all the villages surrounding it and through the Pennines. Villages Todmordin, Hebden Bridge all within 4 miles of my family. Clear up to the Summit. Dividing England from Scotland. So beautiful.

Quite nice here today. It was the Corn Festival Th. Fri.Sat.  Got rained out Th. Fri. Sat. was O.K after about 11am. To bad not on today.

It has been a bad year for Festivals and Fairs this summer. Illinois Fair lost about 5 days out of 12. many are saying they will not come back to Illinois anymore.  It was a bad year in 2015 also.  Sept. would be a better month to have things.
I will head for Japan house and gardens soon. A big Japanese Festival there today. Always a big crowd.

Too quiet here in the discussion.  I have not contributed and latest excuse is a long lasting cold that has me awake nights and napping all day.   Was viewing several of mine on Vimeo and thought I would post an old favorite song.  This was posted on the prior site.   Time to Remember.  View full screen.

Beautiful,  Jack !   You did a super job matching the pictures with the music.   Couldn't have been more appropriate !

Hate to think about the days getting shorter, the temperatures getting lower and of course,  that "dreaded white stuff" .  But, we know it is coming.  Meanwhile, we can enjoy the pleasant video of "September"..

Thanks for a very pleasant walk through Oglebay.  Never tire of seeing it.

I love it, Jack, and enjoyed as much as I did 2 years ago.  Don't know how you managed to get the photos in sync with the music so perfectly, must have taken a long time.  Never would have remembered all the words without you having them in.... but they came out of my mouth just fine (as long as nobody was listening~)

Joy, I can hardly wait for cold weather.  I was out working on the pool early to brush the sides & bottom & see if I can shape it up before that snow flies.  I really didn't take care of it this summer & am ashamed of how bad I let it get.  We never had such humidity as this year & was hot again today.  Got a lot done today in spite of the heat, and FitBit tells me I only got 3 hours & 17 min sleep last night.  I am running out of steam so plan to hit the sheets pretty soon... and they are clean sheets tonight, along with another whole load that I spread all over the floor in the bedroom so cat fur & food can be hauled out to shake.  Everything back in place & I still have one cat in the garage & one in the family room.  Poor Callie Cat only goes out when she can follow me, I feel guilty not letting her in the house but she can't be trusted to NOT mark her territory since she knows the others are inside a lot.  Poor baby, she is so sweet... and grateful when I stop to pet her when I feed her.  I leave a door open enough for her to go out during the day but she rarely does.  Can't open until light & must close before dark so I don't get another opposum renter, or skunk or raccoon.

Thanks for the tune, Jack, left you another message in Vimeo (had to look up my password~)

Joy

Good morning, Shirley.   You were last one last night and I am the first one this morning.

Yes, I know lots of people are waiting for the cold weather.  But not me !!!  I hate it and just don't even like to think about it coming. I like the hot weather.  I am sure it is not pleasant when you have to work out in it.  However,  I would much rather have it hot than cold.  I can hardly believe where the summer went.  Seems like it just started and now it is just about over.  Seems like the kids just got out of school and here they are back again, already.  I don't know why the summer flies by so fast and the winter always seems to drag on and on and on.  LOL

I can never seem to get warm in the winter.  My apartment is cold and my furnace runs almost constantly in the winter.  I am on the north side of my building and I hardly ever see the sun in the wintertime.

I love hearing your stories about your cats.  You and my DIL would get along great.

Enjoyed that video so much, Jack.  Hope you are soon over that summer cold.

We are dog sitting for a couple of days while our daughter and hubby take a well deserved weekend getaway.

Joy, it has been so hot this summer that we are looking forward to the winter.  This will be our first winter this far north in Florida so it will be an interesting change.

jackwv

Joy, Shirley and Joy thanks.   If sleep is a cure for a cold, I am doing my best.   Woke up this morning, let Jessie out, fed her, and back to sleep.   Think I need another coffee.  Just typed a long commentary, stopped to consider adding and then lost it.

I do not like the hot and humid, but prefer the long days and sunlight to a dreary winter.

Made a mess of my front lawn, I have bent grass taking over and sprayed it.  Now dealing with dead grass, bare spots I have reseeded.   Every thing looks great in spring, but could not wait.

JACK WV....
...thank you, I enjoyed that little piece of escapism....
...yes not much we can do about our seasons, we know that one will always follow the other....but we do have our favourites...my two, am I allowded two?  :D are Spring and Autumn...I can deal comfortably with our dry and cold weather, even rain, but just not the black slippery ice, or heavy snow that lingers on and on for days...

jackwv

Jackie thank you.  Simply a matter of taking a great song and adding a group of photos on Windows Live Movie Maker.  You add the words to a photo and set the time to display during the song.   Apple's iMovie does the same and with some super effects.

JACK WV, never knew you could actually set the time display to playing a song to our video clip...Don't think that can be done on PhotoPeach when we add our youtube music...I have often chosen a piece of music only to find by the time my video clip is half way through, the music has just started to play...

jackwv

Jackie I like photopeach but some cannot view.   If you have Windows Live Movie Maker you should give it a try.  I am sure there are tutorials on the web.  A bit more work than Photopeach but it also handles home movies.

Lindancer

Jack, I tried to get your video, but it comes up and said my browser is outdated. I do not know how old my computer is, but I am still on Vista, old just like me.  :)

Click for Riverhead, NY Forecast

jackwv

Gloria the age of the computer should not be a problem.  When they mention Browser they are addressing Internet Explorer, Edge, Firefox, Safari etc. Have someone check and see if you need an update for yours.   If any question you might post in the computer discussion.

Shirley

Gloria, I'm still using Vista on one computer (and like it best) and have settings so updates tells me when there are new ones available and I okay the ones I want to allow.  I use Google Chrome browser but do have Internet Explorer and Firefox on .... but both of them need to update completely new version, not just little updates, and I just have not bothered to let it and don't use them.  I think there is a site under Start that is for updates & where you can click on to allow.  Good luck, you'll love Jack's video!

Got to go shower.... been out cutting weeds out of the berm & sprayed myself with OFF.... so am itching from it.  Got part of the little mulberry trees cut down & a whole lot of what I thought was milkweed & had been letting it grow because "Monarch butterflies like milkweed"....  I did a Google for photos of milkweed & not what I am growing so got a dumpster full & bundles tied up of the mulberry trees & other junk.  I really don't like yard work but few years ago when I asked the lawn guys what they'd charge to clean the berm (not nearly as bad as now).... they thought about $500.  I thought that was way out of line but would probably want double for the way it is now.  I have all the tools & equipment because Cas loved yard work... got the job about half done & will maybe wait for cooler weather to finish.  Supposed to be back in the 90s for a few days.

Take care of that cold, Jack.... and do your body a favor.... sleep all you can, best medicine in the world.  Gargle with hot salt water.... I put a lot of salt in a microwave safe mug & re heat it about every hour when I think of it....  gargle & don't have to mix every time.

The local Rotary Club has put on their yearly Octoberfest.  It is held in the Winn Dixie parking lot a few blocks from us so Larry and I went over for a while tonight.  People were really enjoying themselves and the kids were having a lot of fun.  The weather was very cooperative and it was so pleasant.

Mary Ann

Jean, it looks like a lot of fun.

Mary Ann

jackwv

Thanks Jean, agree with Mary Ann, lots of fun.   Oglebay has theirs in two weeks.

FlaJean

It has been a while since I made a video and wasn't sure I remembered how.  :).  Thank you Mary Ann and Jack for your comments.  The tourist season is pretty much over and the local festivals start in the fall.  The summer has been unusually hot this year.

SCFSue

Jack, your recent video (which I just saw this morning) is lovely.  I've always loved the music and your pictures fit beautifully.  I'm sorry to hear that you are not feeling well and hope you will be soon.  Big Hugs for you from me here in Alabama!

Sue

jackwv

Sue, thanks, appreciate the comment and the hug.   The cold is about gone, now have to quit taking naps.

jackwv

Sue I posted a photo of the Grist Mill at Babcock state park.   Patricia commented  on rivers and believe you know that the mill is not far from Beckley where we once met.   The Mill is on Glade Creek that flows into the New River.
The New River  flows north to the Kanawa and is one of the oldest rivers in the world.  get this comment that it was prior to the existence of the Atlantic Ocean.
The age of a river is difficult to determine. Generally, the age is estimated based primarily upon the age of any mountains it dissects; the age of the sea or ocean to which it eventually outflows can be irrelevant; for example, several rivers of the east side of the Appalachian Mountains are older than the existence of the Atlantic Ocean, which did not exist 130 million years ago.[If a river fully dissects a mountain range, then this generally indicates that the river existed at least at the time that the mountain range rose.
Posting this also in the Photo Discussion.

JeanneP

Jean.  that looked like a great Festival they put on.  Our Rotary don't seem to get involved doing anything anymore.  The Lions Club put on a Scarecrow one last weekend but nothing like yours. Lots of people selling and a Motorcycle showing but nothing for the kids.  It was in the park down the street from me. They have a big playground and so I suppose they think that enough.  Seem like none bring in the big Blow up things for the kids anymore.  Last year 2 children got killed . One was on like the big slide showing on yours.  It collapsed with children on it. The other was at the County fair.  Suppose they are now afraid of Insurance problems
A little 4 year old girl drowned last Thursday in a City run nursery swimming pool. and so I suppose it will be closing now.  Seems people dont watch children anymore like we did.  Glad you had a nice day for yours today.

Watching Sachiko in her garden brought to mind "In the Garden"   I made a short piece using Oglebay photos and limited to just one verse.   Still getting over a cold, but wanted to try the voice recorder that comes with windows 10.  Not much of a mike just a plug in usb one, saved the recording and put it into Windows Live Movie Maker in place of music.

Mary Ann

Jack, you did very well.  I wish I could have sung along with you; I'm an alto so like to harmonize.  In the Garden is one of my favorite songs.

Mary Ann

FlaJean

Jack, I really enjoyed your video and song.  The photos were ideal for the words to the song.  That was one of my dad's favorite hymns.  You sound like you are pretty much over that summer cold.  Keep getting plenty of rest (at our age do we have a choice :D?)
Mary Ann, I'm also an alto.

jackwv

Jean and MaryAnn thanks.   Years ago I sang tenor.   In a group I usually had to sing lead or would end up singing lead  :)

I now sing in a small Funeral Choir, but we all simply try to sing on note.

Joy

Jack, that was very nice.   That was one of my mother's favorite hymns, and also one of mine, too.   As always, enjoyed "walking" Oglebay with you.   Thanks for taking us along.

Joy thanks.  I was tempted to just use a version off the internet, but decided to wing it and sing it myself.  The hymn hits home with me.   I have Jessie with me on my walks but have lots of time to just sit and listen.
