MaryAnn.  Now as I have a tendency to write long ones then When I go to post it doesn't go but comes up in red saying.  (Someone else was posting at the same time. Place hit Post again) and then it goes. I don't seem to lose any.
Did it happen to you when you were still using W7?
JeanneP

Mary Ann

Yes, JeanneP, I am using W-7 on this computer and that's where I lose the post.  I get that message occasionally but I seems when I do lose a post, someone has posted, I get the message and I lose my post.  I am considering getting a new laptop and it will be a Windows 10.  I haven't made up my mind yet.

Mary Ann

Beverly

The dental appointment I mixed up last Friday was this morning. It went very well. The tooth came out easily so no problem. I took the Ativan beforehand which made me sleepy all day. No pain and I haven't even had to take a Tylenol. Hope this continues.

Mary Ann - Do you return to the post you've written and post it again after the red warning comes up?

We are re-thinking the church we attend. They've laid out some more plans and it appears it will eventually be a mega-church. We like small and friendly.

Good night all.

angelface555

Beverly, my church, St. Matthew's Episcopal is on the historical register so cannot be redesigned and or redone. The new addition from around 1921, looks just like your old house's side view  in Vermont . There are other Episcopal's churches locally , but we like this one for tradition, older established families, and a nice mix of Natives and Whites. I love history and we have Native Deacons and sometimes the service is rendered in Gwich'in, Athabaskan or Tsimshian, among others.

Sometimes we will head up for communion while Native singers sing hymns for us  in their language. It was only about forty to fifty years ago that some were still trying to destroy or forbid these languages and now there are several attempts to attempt language saves. They are teaching them before they disappear as about 200 in our area alone have done.

Father Scott is a bit of an activist, he led a fight to get memorial caches for those killed by hate crimes and he is well spoken of in the community by all groups.

Mary Ann

Beverly, yes, I return to my post after I get the red warning about another post - if it can be found.  Usually it is there, but sometimes the post disappears.  I try to click twice when I want to post.  My post will take and I'll still get the red message so I can see what was posted as I wrote.

Now, today, I clicked on reply, typed a B to start my message and there was no Reply box.  I had to click on Reply again.  I am having computer trouble as I've written before.  I don't know whether to have this computer looked at, or if I should consider a new one.  This computer is W-7 and a new one would be W-10.

I will have my hair cut this morning, then Tom and I will go to breakfast at a restaurant next to the hair salon then who knows!

It's 71 degrees and it is too warm for mid-October.

Hi everyone on another beautiful South Carolina morning with blue skies and zero chance of rain today or tonight.  I seem to be operating on slow this morning as didn't get up until 8 am and just taking things slow this morning.  Fortunately, other than some kitchen work there is nothing on the schedule until Pat's 4 pm Chiropractor appointment so I have no need to hurry this morning.  We had a nice men's meeting last night at church, a good steak dinner and a speaker from the Palmetto Shooting complex, which is quite an operation with one of the aims being to teach the younger generation to hunt safely as well as providing a shooting range to shoot skeet, clay pigeons and target shooting.  Even though I have never been a hunter I have to say I enjoyed the program.  This facility is about 25 miles from our town in the next county.

Patricia, I am a bit surprised they told you about the spraying before they were almost ready to start as it probably leaves everyone worked up. It sounds like you are having some pretty cool weather up your way.

Mary Ann, glad you had such a positive experience with the ENT doctor and it is always good to hear no need for a followup appointment.

Beverly, sure you are glad that appointment is over and that it wasn't a difficult extraction.  Glad you have had no pain and hope that was the situation last night as well. Like you I have no intentions of ever belonging to a mega church.  I grew up attending a very small country church and over the years have generally attended churches with smaller congregations.  Our current church has around 500 people in the three services each week and that is big enough for me.

Patricia, it sounds like you have an interesting congregation at your church.  It would be wrong to try to destroy or forbid native languages.

I just lost a lot of hair by way of a haircut.  My regular stylist was back; she had an accident before my last appointment so had a different stylist.  I liked the job the sub did, but I think she did not cut it short enough as I had a lot of hair to cut today.  I usually say I lose 10 pounds after a haircut.  It was nice to have my "regular" back.

Afterward, Tom and I went to the restaurant next door for breakfast.  I got a Sunrise Scramble and forgot to mention I wanted a Jr size.  I would still have taken some of the Jr  home and I did the regular too.  It has chicken, broccoli, tomato and some other veggies mixed in with the eggs and it is good.  Just too much for me at one setting.

Well, we finally have some sun today.  Has been windy  and cloudy with some rain for days.  :(  Nice to see that bright globe in the sky.   ::)

JeanneP

For anyone who like Steam trains.  I got this from my HOme town in UK today. I use to love this one when I was little. Now it is back running again. Got to see and ride it.

Hi everyone on another beautiful morning.  It will get pretty warm this afternoon going up to 86 at the hours of Pat's Chiropractic appointment.

Around 10:30 this morning I will make a trip to the church to take the casserole and the cake that we made for the church bazaar today.  My neighbor is going with me as he wants to see the room arrangement of where he will be speaking and to show his pictures he will use to the lady in charge so she will have the proper projection equipment available.  He will speak next week at our Adult Fellowship Luncheon on the Assassination of JFK.  This evening is the Wednesday night dinner with our son and then he will come out to visit with us again.

I spoke with the builder yesterday and he told me they will be closing on the new home across the street a week from yesterday.  They laid part of the driveway yesterday and are all ready pouring the cement for the sidewalk and the rest of the driveway.

Mary Ann, your Sunrise Scramble sounds like it would be good and a hefty breakfast.  Where I go to coffee they make very large and tasty omelets and my son and I have, on occasion, split one and it was plenty for me.  However, the last time he had a full omelet and had no trouble eating it.

Joan,  glad you finally had some sun.  Rain is good but days of it become a little much.

JeanneP, I read the article about the train.  It has quite a history.  The scenery would certainly fly by very quickly.

Mary Ann

Larry, the Jr Sunrise Scramble would have been too much for me and I would still have brought some home.  So, by forgetting to tell her I wanted a Jr, I got the full scramble.  I ate some yesterday for lunch, and I'm not sure I'll finish it today or toss the rest (not much left).  We are going to a pizza place for lunch today with others in the family which is why I am considering pitching the last of it.

Annie came over last night to return a griddle to her dad; she had borrowed it.  She came with the family she lives with and they had an electronic skate board that they were riding on our street.  It was early night so little traffic.  Recently our road was resurfaced so is nice and smooth.

In the process, against my wishes, Annie let the cat outside.  And, of course, he refused to come back in.  I knew he'd return, but the question was "when".  He still was not back by the time they left, maybe around 9 pm.  I forgot about him until 9:30 and went to the door to see if I could see him.  I could not see him, but I opened the door and he dashed in.  I cut down his treat because he was a bad boy!!!  (I know, he didn't know the reason).

I got up with the idea of getting dressed, but Tom had been out for breakfast and brought back my breakfast.  The coffee was still a drinkable temperature, so I ate the breakfast and at 10 am I still am in my nightclothes.  When I finish with S&F, I'll get dressed.

Mary Ann

Marilyne

Mary Ann - I'm glad Kendrick is back inside, safe and sound.  Cats will usually return to the entrance where they got out, but will stay out of sight until the door is opened or they are called.  My Winnie spends some of his daytime hours in our back yard, usually sleeping in the sun on the deck.  The area is enclosed by a high fence, so he can't get out of the yard. He can no longer climb or jump, (too old!) so is content to check all corners of the yard, then have a drink of water from his outdoor crock, and then settle in for a couple of hours of sunshine and sleep.

Guess I will fix myself some breakfast. Not quite 8:30 here, and I hope to get lots of things accomplished today! (famous last words! ha ha)

Mary Ann

Marilyne, I have a raised deck and let Kendrick out there for 10 minutes at a time, but as often as he wants to go out.  He would walk around the plants I had out there in the summer but I've brought them inside for the winter.  He has only jumped off the deck once and that was when Tom forgot he was out there, so the cat spent the night on the deck.  In the morning when Tom got up and turned on his light, the cat jumped down and went to the window to let Tom know he wanted IN.  He's on my bed now.  We recently bought him a bed and he sleeps there most of the time, although he spends time on his tower too.  The tower is too small for him as he is a big cat.

I don't know how high Kendrick can jump.  If he can get away with it, he has been on the kitchen counter but that is very seldom.  Tom brought home some cat food that I left on the counter and there are a couple of holes in the bag.  We don't have a fence around our complex and we're near a couple of busy streets which is why I do not want him out of the house/comdo.  I'd like to get a harness to see if I could walk him - to the mailbox, for instance.  But I don't want him to get any ideas!

Just a suggestion:while writing a post and the red squiggly line appears:
COPY it and when you decide to post again, you can PASTE it and nothing is lost.. When I make up Trivia Quizzes, I find by doing this, I save a lot of time when trying to answer someone..and that red squiggly appears

JeanneP

Larry.  Yes. trains in UK are fast but the best public transportation in the World. That one is 8 hours from London to Scotland but  on thing makes it nice is you can buy a train pass for 3  days, 7 days 14 and 30.  Can plan to get off any train any place and then get on another. do it as many times as you want in one day. Once stamped on the first trip of the day that doesn't get done again for the whole day.  With been a small country I have at time had a 7 day one and covered lots of places. Now I just buy 3 day ones. Fact after age 60 most public transportation in UK is free between 9am and 5pm and 7pm to 10pm  Makes it nice for Retirees to just go all place for a days run.

My glasses are ready and so off to get them . Took them just a week. Only ever use glasses for close reading but going to try some a little different. Maybe not have to keep putting them on and off all the time.

Chia, when my post takes too long to appear, I copy it so I'll have it when/if my post disappears.  I don't know about a red squiggly line, but when the message about another post appearing while I was writing appears, I usually have lost the post by the time the message in the red box appears.  I'm not sure that is what you wrote about, but that is what happens to me.

We were going to go to a pizza place for our family luncheon today but Terry called that he could not make it.  Tom and I decided it would be a good day to go to Robinette's, an apple orchard with a restaurant (basic food).  I had a chicken salad, broccoli and cheese roll and hot cider - cost less than $10.  Tom had a cranberry, walnut, chicken salad that was $1 more and he said it was very good.  The problem was the noise and it is hard to get away from that because their restaurant is in a barn-like structure.  We didn't shop but they have a lot of small items for sale.  Especially Christmas items, candles and ornaments.

Hello, I have been busy all day, between cleaning out, stacking, bagging, and sticking household items in plastic crates, getting my new glass prescription to the clinic and going to a fire presentation. The presentation was excellent as not only were the men involved in fire education, they also worked in arson investigations and training at the fire academy.

The Life Line installer stopped by at noon and got me set up with Lifeline.  The waterproof pendant works only in the building but she felt I should wear the waterproof necklace 24/7 so I don't lose it or to forget to put it back on. I was surprised to find the responders were based in Mass.

We finally after over a week of uncertainty, received notice that the spraying will be done next Monday. That means I will have more time to finish up. Then to leave it outside as they will spray three separate times to eradicate the bugs entirely. I have four library shelving units of paperback and hardback books piled on towels on the balcony.

Since bedbugs love books and the spray will ruin them, I have to wonder if there might be some when I finally bring them in to reshelve. Getting relevant knowledge is like pulling teeth with the pest control company. I have been on the couch as I keep thinking there must be bugs in my bed. I have become paranoid. Yesterday I had a tension migraine, and my psoriasis is back.

Surprisingly, Farrah has stuck close and been more affectionate. That is if you don't attempt to pick her up.

Hi everyone.  I got up early this morning and fixed a batch of sausage muffins for Pat to have for several breakfasts over the next week.  She generally alternates between the sausage muffins and the scrambled eggs with bacon bits every other day.  My morning chores are done, the trash is at the street and I got a birthday card into the mailbox for my oldest great grandson's 14th birthday.

I got the casserole and cake to the church on time and took my neighbor, who will be speaking next week, with me so that is setup.  We had a good dinner last night and Scott and I both enjoyed it.  The bazaar was apparently a big success although they have enough stuff left over for another one.  However, it was much less than I saw piled on the tables  with homemade items before the event started.  We had the best evening with Scott we have had for sometime as he had gotten some extra rest so he wouldn't go to sleep here as he had done for several weeks.

Today will be coffee with my church friends and I will pick up my friend and then take him home after coffee and return to the church for the Wisdom group.  Then we plan on going to a new (to us) restaurant we have heard about for our main meal for the day in the early evening, at least after I rest.  That will be it for today.

Mary Ann, I had a chuckle on your cutting down the cat's treat because he had misbehaved.  Your dinner at the apple orchard sounds good.  In Independence, Missouri for many years they had a fine restaurant featuring all type of apples in the recipes along with a big menu of other items.  It was one of our favorite places over the years but unfortunately they closed it down several years ago.  Pat does have one of their recipe books and everything she has made from it is good.

Marilyne, I bet your cat loves the warmth of the son and being able to spend those hours in the back yard.

Chia, it is always a good idea to have that backup, although I seldom do it other than copy my postings when I first make it so I can use it in the three discussions I try to visit everyday.

JeanneP, that rail pass sounds like a good way to see a lot of the UK and not be tied to a specific time as you see the country.  I just looked up to see what the Amtrak system here in the States have and found this:  Multi-Ride Ten-Ride Ticket. Ten-ride tickets are valid for ten rides within a 45-day, 60-day or 180-day period depending on your origin and destination cities. I don't intend to try the system out to find out how it works.  :)  I don't think there are any free transportation on buses or subways here either but I haven't researched it to see if that is correct.

Patricia, at least you now have a target to plan for with the bug spraying.  Is your balcony enclosed so your books are protected from the weather?  I am glad to read you are now using the Lifeline alert.  If you are out and about there would likely be other folks about also who could call for help for you if needed.  However, it should be comforting to know you can summons help while in your apartment.

angelface555

Good morning from the Interior! It is another chilly but snowless day. After all that summer rain, we were expecting an earlier snow.

Now it appears that we will be right on time. Farrah spends her days watching the winter flocks dip and swirl in the air currents outside, or when a hawk comes and flushes them out to every direction.

I am still packing, crating and storing stuff in the balcony. Larry, it is enclosed by rock paneling over cement walls. The front has a four-foot concrete center wall with a two wooden railings over that, bringing it to five feet. The floor area is probably four foot by eight foot. Still, I hate putting my paintings and books out there for who knows how long?

The sister who has the religious group was yelling at one of the men in the breakroom this morning. So much so that security escorted her out. Evidently, she is moving her brother because we are "a filthy sloppy place with needing to spray."

She is also giving up her religious discrimination suit, (Translation, no one would take her up on it!). One of the maintenance men said she had been asked to find another place with more Alzheimer's care for her brother. However, because our building is being sprayed, the state nursing home will not take him until afterward. The group is also losing their meeting place.

We had a newcomer who has moved up here with her husband. She said she went out shopping but kept getting lost because her GPS was malfunctioning.  We told her to think of it as many different areas or regions tacked together. Some street will stop for a period and then take up again a block or two later.

The central core area of ten blocks was once surrounded by homesteads that were eventually absorbed as the city grew. There was no clean layout as it began as a gold miners camp and supply point. It was incorporated in 1903.

Plus there are so many rivers, creeks, and ponds in Fairbanks that navigating can be confusing at first. She seems nice and another addition to our morning coffee group.

Anchorage, down south, was set up by the railroad in the nineteen thirties and it was set up with all the streets going one direction were numbered and the other direction's streets, had names. So it is easier to find your way.

Larry. Now my Town. Champaign/Urbana have a fantastic Bus service. It being a big Universtity town with 47000 they have great buses. Now we over 62 get free bus passes and 50% off Taxis. I don't use the bus often but should as one stops by my house (On the city outskirts) every 15 min. The on Urbana Terminal is just 5 min away and the Big Train/Bus terminal for Champaign just 10 min. From there buses go everywhere within a 10 mile radious. Never have to wait more than 5 min. to change buses. May use them more in Winter time.  They also have a service for people who need to go to Dr. Appt. Libraries etc.  and other things. The will pick people up at their homes if they let the bus office know the time 24 hours before.  Almost as good as the one in England that my family used.  US on just does not use for Trains or going out of the area for free.
In England it all comes under the Government Transport.  Here in US. Comes under just your Local city service although I know that the State gives money to it.  Now in Chicago I believe that it covers the Inter City trains for Seniors also.

I just saw in photos that Jack has lost Jessie, It had evidently come on suddenly.

Mary Ann

Patricia, how sad for Jack.  I think he said recently Jessie was 14 years old, which is old for a Golden.

Tom's family had a Golden and she had arthritis at 10 and had to be put down.  Oh, how we all miss her.

I'll bet you're not sad to see the "religious" sister leave.

Mary Ann

SCFSue

Thank you, Angelface, for the heads up about Jack's beautiful Golden, Jesse.  I met both of them in West Virginia when Jesse was just a new pup.  I know Jack must be heartbroken.

Sue

Marilyne

Larry - I keep meaning to comment on that great picture of you in the "Meeting Friends, Old and New" discussion!

Patricia - I'm glad they finally set a definite date for the spraying.  You said they will spray three times.  Will that be on three consecutive days, or all three on Monday?  For your sake, I hope they do it all on one day.

Mary Ann - I like the way you describe the food that you and Tom order when you go out to eat.  You make everything sound so good.  I liked the menu at the apple orchard restaurant.  The chicken salad, broccoli and cheese roll and hot cider, made me wish we had a restaurant like that here.

larryhanna

Hi everyone on another clear morning.  After today our temperatures are suppose to be a lot cooler getting only into the 70's during the day.  I am more than ready for some nice cooler days.  The housekeeper is due here this morning and Pat has an 11:30 appointment with the Chiropractor.  While she is there I will go on down the street to Aldi's to pick up a couple of things I didn't have on the list the yesterday but which we need. I may also make a quick trip to COSTCO for a couple of things rather than try to go on Saturday, which they are super busy.

Patricia, your living place certainly isn't boring with all the drama that has been going on.  Thanks for the info on your balcony.  I remember how easy it was to get around in Anchorage.  We lived on "I" street just a few blocks from the downtown area.

JeanneP, what great bus service you have in your town.  We have no bus service in our little town and I really don't know anything about the Augusta service across the river.  I have seen a Senior transportation van a few times in this area.

Marilyne, thanks for the compliment.  I have aged since them quite a bit.

Mary Ann

Marilyne, the orchard restaurant is really more of a cafeteria since we have to stand in line to order, then pay for our food.  The other side of the counter is the kitchen and all foods are prepared there.  It is nothing fancy and one retiree friend won't go there because (1) it is in the north end where I live (the other four retirees live in the south end, so I must go there to meet them) and (2) you have to stand in line to order etc.  Their menu is very limited, but all who go there, know that.

Larry, Tom got some glasses at Costco recently.  He likes the glasses but disliked the person who waited on him and said he would not go back again.  I think one reason he won't go back is it is in the SW corner of Grand Rapids and we live in the NE corner; it is quite a distance from here to there.

At 11:11 we have not yet reached 50 degrees and I doubt we'll get much higher, if we do reach that.

The trash and recycle are out and the recycle has been picked up already.  I put the recycle tub back in the garage.

Mary Ann

Marilyne

Mary Ann - We have a place like that too . . . first stand in line, then take a tray, order, push tray along the counter, while someone dishes up your food, salad, drink, et al.  I don't like to stand on my feet that long, but I do like the food, so it's worth it! Ours is called the Garden City Hofbrau, and is one of those restaurants that has a huge fresh roasted turkey, roast beef, and ham.  The server stands there and carves whatever you want, as much as you want.  Or, you have a choice of other entrees, like lasagna, chicken, spaghetti/meat balls, etc.  Very reasonably priced and always crowded, so you  have to stand in line a long time!

angelface555

Good morning from a snowy Interior! I had just finished putting half of my paperback books on the balcony yesterday when it began to snow, and it is still snowing with little to no accumulation. It took me two hours to put out the second half today.

I am wondering, if there are bugs, enjoying the backing's glue, if they will live through the cold and regenerate when I bring them back in? The pest company doesn't seem to know much of anything and not even the two cities appear to coordinate their pest information!

The books sit on four bath towels, but I had no coverings, so they are in the elements. All wooden bowls, figures, cups, steins, etc. are out as well as 23 large paintings and my office equipment. The weekend will be the kitchen and bedroom.

Farrah has been very close and affectionate. I don't know if she is trying to comfort me, believes we're moving, or thinking she's going out on her own again. With the skies pouring sleet and snow, all her birds she liked to watch have taken cover.

I do not know about the timing of the sprays, only know it is to be three separate times as to get everything and they did the fifth floor yesterday and will again today. Monday will be four hours in one of the other floor's common rooms, so no coffee!

About the gossip floating around the building and by the guys hanging out in the common room slash kitchen, well, what can I say? None of us here have such interesting and varied lives to rise above such speculation. Two guys used to be in commercial fishing; one was a cop, one ex-Elvis impersonator,  one was a cook at the youth's jail and another was a pharmacist.

Together they represent over sixty years of Fairbanks and probably know everyone or have heard of anyone in those past sixty years or so. After those regulars, there are about five or six guys that come and go.

The regulars pretty much spend the day there, playing cards and gossiping. The maintenance men and security are close in age and stop in for treats and coffee between their other business, so it is a busy place!

The women tend to congregate in apartments or on the higher floor's common rooms.  Other than the ones on the first floor, one man and I are the youngest of the entire group here, so it's like my parent's generation, listening to talks, gossiping and visiting.

angelface555

We have one or two restaurants that have something similar only just for Sunday or holiday brunches. You pay a flat fee and there are several tables with various types of food, and lastly, a carver serving various meats..

We used to have a cafeteria type restaurant, but they had health concerns, were closed for a month but no one came back after they reopened. I think the owners sold out to a Joann's fabric shop.

Sandy

I am worried about you Patricia...
With all of your allergies...  living in where
they are spraying doesn't sound good.

Did anyone check your apartments to make
sure that there are in fact bugs there?   Or
perhaps you have noticed some.

I wish you the best..

Sandy
