For those of you who remember Adrienne in San Francisco and Gene and Nadia from Western Australia, here is a photo from November fifth, 2016 when they visited Adrienne. Shirley Thomas had passed sometime earlier.

Mary...glad you're home!

Marilyn....Good job on training Freckles and going to Funeral.

Jeanne....our yard guy was here while we were in Chicago this weekend.  Our trees are bare, so I assume they're finished for the year.

Angelface...thanks for the photo!

Hi to GinnyAnn, MaryPage, Joy, Sue, MaryPage, Sharon, Darlene,

Beautiful day here, and a nice drive home, after a late night with the wedding and then reception until midnight.  I'm not used to being out and driving at that hour.   :D

Jane

SharonE

Mary, so glad you're home and able to get around.  Sounds like you have plenty of people checking on you.  My knee has been bothering me this week, the one I had a partial replacement done on.  Your having this surgery has brought back all the bad memories of my surgery. I sure don't want to have it done again!  I may try the new thing where they implant stemcells in the knee and let them regenerate the cartilage. Sounds a lot easier--if it works.

Jane, glad you got home from the wedding safely.

We actually got some rain today, the first in 35 days!  It hasn't been a lot, but a drizzle throughout most of the day.  The temp has been in the 50's so combined with the rain, it was really cold today.  We did go to church & SS though. Our leaves are only about half down.

Marilyn, I'm glad there was no unpleasantness at the funeral and that they appreciated you coming.  I'm sorry that link on the vertigo didn't work. Wish I knew what would.  Has the dr ever given you an Rx for Antivert to use when you're dizzy?  Mom had Menieres disease and that helped her some.  Freckles is such a sweet dog. I'm so glad you have him.

Jeanne, how nice of the workmen at the condo offering to take care of all of your leaves.  There are still good people in the world.

Not much happening here. We go to Duke tomorrow & Tuesday.  Wish us well.  Sharon

SCFSue

Hi Buddies.  I slept late this morning--didn't get to the kitchen until 8:30.  Olyne picks me up for Sunday School and church at 9:30, so I had to eat quickly and get ready in a N.Y. minute.  I didn't get to finish reading the paper--the sports page was pretty sad about Auburn's loss to Georgia yesterday.  Instead of lunch at Burger King, I had Olyne bring me home after church.  I fixed a nice plate of meat loaf, sautéed peppers and mushrooms, and cottage/tomato salad.  I missed my BK friends, but enjoyed a nice lunch and a leisurely time to read today's paper.

Sharon, I'm so sorry about the knee pain.  I had some cartilage removed from my left knee about 4 years ago and have had no pain since.  I did go to rehab three times a week and worked hard at home, too.  Fortunately, no problem since.  Painful knees are no fun! I hope the stemcell plants work if you decided to go that route.

Jane, I wish my trees were bare.  Every day I have more leaves down.  I'm glad you made it home safely.

Angelface, in March 2002 after my husband died, I went to England and took a train north to York.  On the way back, I stopped for a few days in London.  I'd e-mailed Adrienne who I think was originally from a small city near London.  She came in to the city and we met for lunch at Selfridge's (I think it was a department store).

Mary, it must feel good to be back in your apartment and with your own things.  Will you have more rehab now that you're home?  Are you going to attend the women's basketball games?  I have received my tickets, but still can't drive.  I'm going to try to find someone who would like to go with me and would hopefully drive me there.

Marilyn, I'm glad you and Keith went to the funeral and that is was pleasant.  But I am so sorry to hear about your Vertigo.  Is this something new?  I don't recall you mentioning it before.  I hope it won't recur.

Jeanne, I have so many leaves down, it's overwhelming--and many more to come down. I'm just leaving them alone until they are all down.  My neighbor across the street has blown off my driveway twice after he finished his, but I have so many trees, especially oaks which are leaving more each day.

I've been reading this afternoon and am going to watch PBS programs until after Poldark is over at 10:00.  Right now they are having the second episode of the Dust Bowl drought.  What a sad time in the mid-west's history.

MaryPage must be having company today.  She usually posts on Sundays.  I hope all is well.

Sleep well this evening, Buddies.
Sue

I haven't been doing much exercise this weekend, but gradually gaining more confidence.  This is a good thing, too!  I guess they'll be setting me up with a PT schedule tomorrow for several weeks here at the Terrace.  Jean will be heading home tomorrow midday.  She's really dong yeoman service, helping me, but it's time for her to get back to her house and her puppy.

Sue, I have my basketball tickets, too. I don't know when I'll be released to drive.  My friend who was going with me last year will take me as soon as I think I'm able to go.  I don't know when that'll be.  There's always the radio before that.  Good luck with finding someone to go with  you, too.

GinnyAnn

Evening my friends.  Life is about the same. I read all the posts but didn't take notes.

maryz Great that you are gaining confidence getting around.

Take care Buddies.

jane

Beautiful mid November morning here...clear and sunny and just a bit cool.  We're working down through our list of things to get done in the next two weeks before we begin packing up the car.

Lots of laundry for now.   :P

SCFSue

Hi Buddies.  It's sunny and bright and a bit cooler here today.  I received a post card from the city on Saturday.  It reminds residents that we are in drought conditions.  I will be permitted to water only on Tuesday and Thursday from 8:00 p.m. through 8:00 a.m.  I still have some rain water in my rain barrel, so will use that first on my pansies.  My azaleas are really suffering, but I have too many to tote buckets to, so hope daily for rain.

Jane, it sounds like your morning is a lot like mine.  Two weeks is a pretty short time to get organized.  Will you leave before Christmas?

GinnyAnn, I hope you've been out on your deck enjoying some sunshine this morning.  I know that might help a bit with your depression.

Mary, you will miss Jean.  She's been such a help all the time she's been here.  I'm going to call the Women's athletic director to see if she'll put out a message for ticket holders who might be willing to pick me up.  I have 2 tickets for each game and would give one to the driver.  Our women played a game prior to the men's game last week--both were with smaller schools.  I think the season starts in January.  There will be more games with opponents other than SEC players before January.

I have book club this afternoon and am presenting the book.  Like a dummy I volunteered because I thought the title, Braiding Sweetgrass was about the Gullah/Geechee women who line the beach highway east of Charleston, SC.  I have seen them in action and their baskets are beautiful.  This book is mostly about the Indian ways learned by the author who is a botanist.  Her story includes the sending of young Indian boys to boarding school to "make them like white men" (her interpretation).  I'm sure there is truth in her thesis, but it is complicated.  When Lue and I went to Phoenix before she died, we spent half a day in the museum which depicted the times/students/education/etc. of the young boys there--and it was sympathetic to the Indian youth.

Have a good day, Buddies, and if you have sunshine, try to get outside to enjoy it.
Sue

Marilyn

Sue I have had this vertigo off and on for many years it worsened after I hit my head on a tree 5 years ago. That happened as I was walking Happy and Bebe  at the same time of two different leashes. Happy stopped to use a tree, Bebe got wrapped around my legs and down I went hitting my head just above my right eye and splitting it open.  Some of you may recall that I never did go to the doctor for that, I just washed it real good and butterflied it together. By the time I did call the Dr She said it was too late for an MRI to see if there was a concussion.

Graduation from the Hospice class is tomorrow, then my interview on friday and then just waiting for a Hospice patient for need some one who has a dog.

SCFSue

Good news on the basketball tickets.  One of my book club friend's husband died during the year.  They had women's tickets which she didn't renew.  She was at book club today and when I asked if anyone who could drive would like to go to the games with me and could drive, she spoke up, so she'll be taking me to the games.  I'm VERY HAPPY about this!

Marilyn, good luck with your graduation from the Hospice class and your interview on Friday.

Goodnight, All.
Sue

Sleep well, Buddies.

Great news, Sue!  Coach Foster (the calm, even-tempered guy) really unloaded on our gals last night after their loss to Florida.  That so rarely happens, I hope it gets their attention.  LOL

Sitting in the eye doc's office waiting for him to check Ray's corneas....they're running late....surprise!

Good news, Sue, on a friend who also loves basketball and can drive you.

Congrats, Marilyn, on graduation from Hospice class.

Hi everyone, our trip to Duke had a wonderful conclusion: The dr did 2 separate sonagrams on his eye and even talked to his dr here, but he couldn't find a thing!  We are so relieved. Who knows what his home dr saw, but it wasn't there today!  I will sleep a lot better tonight.  Anyway, he was finished at 10:00 and we were home before 3:00 even with lunch, a gas stop, and dropping off a book at the library!  Bunny was so happy to see us. She had stayed with a couple down the street who do this regularly. Her husband has alzheimers, although is still fairly lucid and he loved Bunny. Apparently she paid a lot of aattention to him and most of the dogs don't.  It was also his 84th birthday, so I was so glad she made him happy.

Jane, your getting ready is probably pretty much a science by now.  I do hope you enjoy your extra month down there.

Mary, I know you will miss Jean, but she certainly was wonderful for you to have with you through the worst of it.

Sue, you didn't say how your book review went.  But I'm so glad you found someone to take you to the games. I know how much you enjoy them and it sounds like the widow will really enjoy going too.

Marilyn, I think it's wonderful that you are graduating from Hospice class. You do so much good.  And I'm sure you get a lot of satisfaction from it.  It's too bad you never went to the dr. when you hit your head.  Lori is still having some repercussions from her concussion and she went the next day, I think and followed all the protocol.  However, the problems she's having may also be related to all the work she's been doing on her condo.  She thinks she has a pinched nerve in her neck.

Hi to Ginny. Do hope you got some sun today.  It was beautiful here.

Hi to everyone else too. I have to go fix dinner.  Sharon

maryz

Wonderful news, Sharon - as you said, I know you'll both sleep better tonight.

Congratulations, Marilyn - I know your work is so appreciated.

Jean is a happy camper - at home tonight with her sweet dog.  It was great to have her here, and she was such a help.  Sue is in town now - to help both me and Randy's family.  She was here with me this afternoon - actually here when the home health care nurse came and the PT tech came to make their assessments.  They were both impressed with the progress I've made, with suggestions and plans for other stuff to be doing.  Each will be making additional visits.  I sent Sue to spent the evening/night with Randy - I think he needs her more than I do right now.  She's going to take me to get my overdue mani/pedi tomorrow afternoon (and getting herself a pedi, too, of course).  Jean took me for my overdue haircut yesterday.  That ought to keep me going until after I see the surgeon on the 29th - and hopefully by then, I'll be released to drive.

Happy Tuesday to all the Buddies!

Woo Hoo, Marilyn on graduation from the Hospice class.  I think you and Freckles will do a great job.  I also hope the vertigo has left you.  Take care and enjoy your Hospice visits.  I admire your service with Freckles.

Mary, your daughters really step up to the plate for you and the rest of your family.  I'm glad Jean was able to come and now Sue to help you and Randy's family.  I'm glad the PT Techs were pleased with your progress and also hope you can/will work on their suggestions.  BTW, I've already missed one bball game--a double header with the men's team--and no parking allowed to anyone without a Men's sticker.  YUCK!

Sharon, hurray for the trip to Duke with good results!  I'm glad John's eye sight is OK and hope you can get an explanation from the local Opthalmologist.  (I thought I spelled that correctly--but must not as I got a RED LINE under it.)

Jane, I hope Ray's eye exam went well today.  When I saw my local eye doctor, he told me I didn't need to see the specialist this year as the spot on my retina has stayed the same as it has for years.  I was happy to not have to get someone to drive me to Montgomery for another exam.

Were any of you Gwen Ifill's fans?  I have enjoyed her news coverage for many years and have missed her for the past 6 months.  She died yesterday after a long illness.  She was one of my favorites and I am sorry she was so ill and passed away.

MaryPage, where are you?  I hope all is well.

Have a nice evening, Buddies.
Sue

jane

Sharon...GREAT news on John's eye exam!

Sue...yes, I watched Gwen on the PBS Newshour and Washington Week.

Jane

Marilyn

I watched Gwen Ifil also.  Sharon go to hear the good news about John's eye exam at Duke.  My next eye exam is on Dec. 31st. I wish it was next years so my deductible would get met  before i go to the Chiropractor. I sure can't afford the $186 deductible when I have to pay back $182 to SS for an over payment, I was going to file for a waiver but there were 12 pages of financial report to fill out for both our incomes and obligations. I am not going to do that. It is none of their business what our financial expenses are nor do they  get Keith's.

Maryz.  Looks like you are getting such good treatment through you health system . My daughter is not old enough to be on Medicare and now her health insurance has raised to $1000 a month in 2017 With a $1000 deductable. She has paid that for this year and so will still get in her 2016. She gets her knee done this Friday. Doesn't look like they give all the services that you are getting. Told her she will be able to go home on Sunday. No talk of going to another place for PT.  Will see.  She live quite a way from the Hospital . All her family live close and Husband and youngest son in the house and so maybe when they think you have lots of help they just let you go home. Not like us who live alone.
JeanneP

maryz

Jeanne, I'm sure it's a combination of things.  I don't know what would've happened if I'd still had John and been in our house.  In any case, however we get it, the followup physical therapy is the most important.

Hi Buddies.  I've had a nice day.  Terri and Bonney came to my house about 9:00 this morning and about 15 minutes later Dorothy picked us up and drove us up to Peggy's on the lake.  Peggy had prepared brunch, scrambled eggs with cheese, grits, biscuits, coffee, which we ate immediately and a yummy apple cake which we had after the second round of bridge.  Then we played a final round and went home.  The weather was beautiful (although we'd all have loved some rain--we're in a terrible drought here).  The lake is lower, I don't think the power company which owns the lake lowered it--Mother Nature did.

This evening I've watched the news and now have the Carolina/Saints football game on.  Carolina is ahead and just got a blocked kick and made a touchdown, but came back on an illegal block in the back.  I'm thinking of turning the sound down and reading--just to look up occasionally.  I really am not much of Pro football.

I hope all have had a good day--and has ANYONE heard from MARY PAGE?

Sue

jane

Sue....no, I haven't.  I hope MaryPage posts soon and is well and just busy.

Today, regular November weather is to hit us....highs in the 40s, cold wind, etc.

Have a good Friday!

Jane

Hi gals - It's been quiet in here. I guess we're all in the post-election/pre-holiday doldrums (or something).

I've seen the home health/OT/and PT gals over the last couple of days.  PT is coming soon to take me to the in-house space for measurements and evaluation.  Sue has been here this morning, and is heading back to SC later today.  It's been good to have some quiet, chatting time with her.  Our Lady Mocs lost to Indiana last night - another game I didn't get to.  I see the doc after Thanksgiving and hope he'll release me to drive then.  Plus I need to continue regaining strength as far as doing anything "outside".

I've e-mailed with MaryPage.  She's okay - just not doing anything on the discussions right now.  I've told her she was missed.

I hope everybody has some good football games this weekend.

Mary...thanks for getting in touch with MaryPage for us all.

SCFSue

Good Morning, Buddies.  It's almost 11:00 here and I've already had a short visit from Tim.  He was out attending yard sales in hopes of finding something he can sell later.  I gave him the toasted pecans I'd made for him last week and forgot to give him.

It's sunny again today.  No rain in sight and my only days of permitted outdoor water use are Tuesday, Thursday, Saturday--but only between the hours of 8:00 p.m. and 8:00 a.m.  Yesterday I used some  of the water in my rain barrel for my recently planted pansies.  I'm very worried about my azaleas--I sure hope we get some rain soon.

I've had my morning walk and my plans for the remainder of the day are to make a grocery list for tomorrow's trip to Kroger with a volunteer/friend/driver.  I wanted to make a sweet potato casserole for our Thanksgiving dinner, but Tim told me the rest of the family want me to bring my pineapple congealed salad, so that's what I'll make.

Mary, thanks for getting in touch with MaryPage for us.  I put out a request at book club last week, which I've probably already mentioned, for someone who'd like to attend women's bball and would be willing to drive me and use my extra ticket.  I was pleased that Sally told me her husband died sometime this past summer and she didn't renew their tickets and was happy to take me.  And yes, I'm in a post-election slump--Big Time!

I've been trying to clean up my mail--I have been neglecting to answer some of it and need to get my kitchen table and hutch cleaned off.

Have a good day, Buddies.
Sue

SharonE

Hi Gals, not much going on here. Just the usual grocery shopping yesterday for the ingredients for the oyster dressing and giblet gravy I'm to take to our neighbor's TG dinner.  I've done a load of laundry this AM, but not much else.

One of the key players for the Panthers got a concussion last night, Luke Kuekley (sp?)  I just hate to hear about any of the players receiving a concussion. You never know what lasting effect it will have on them.

Today is my dil's birthday.  We will call her this evening.

Sue, we got a whole .10 inch of rain Sun/Mon.  No significant rain expected till Christmas.  We were fortunate to get 5" from Matthew, so we are in the abnormally dry designation. The western part of NC & SC are in Severe Drought. That's why we're having so many forest fires.  I hope all of the SE gets some rain before long.

Jane, Brrrr!  Where are you having TG?

Mary, it sounds like all is proceeding well with your. I do hope you'll be able to drive soon. I can't remember how long it was for me. I know you enjoyed Sue's visit.

The hospital called me today to ask questions and get a chart set up for me for Monday and to tell me which meds to stop.  I have to be there at 10 and she said to count on 4-5 hrs.  I don't remember it being that long last time, but that was 3 yrs ago.  I'll be so glad to get it over with and to find out something. I see the Dr at 3:00 to go over the results and find out what he recommends.

Well, I better go get lunch.  Hi to all.  Sharon

maryz

Sharon, what procedure are you having done?  I'll charge this up to my anesthesia - that I don't remember.  LOL.
"When someone you love dies, you never quite get over it.  You just learn how to go on without them. But always keep them safely tucked in your heart."

Mary, I'm having a myelogram. The neurosurgeon couldn't see enough detail in my MRI.  After seeing this, he should be able to make a recommendaation. Don't apologize for forgetting. We all forget details other buddies have told us and have to re-ask and that's without anathesia!!  :D    Sharon

Marilyn

Hello everyone. I received my first Hospice patient that I will probably be visiting early next week.
Keith is have a urinaty tract problem and is catherized until Monday so we won't be going out to dinner tonight.

s|Sherry so the procedure is to see what is wrong with your spine? Back problems?

maryz

Congrats on your first patient, Marilyn - I know you'll do a great job.  And I hope Keith gets over the UTI quickly - no fun.

I remember now, Sharon - sorry.  I hope they find something with an easy fix. 8^)

We had a gorgeous fall day today.  I got out on the back deck for awhile. The front is better for being in the sun, but, I wanted to have Max with me. Lately he hasn't been as good with staying right with me. The back deck has a rail and a gate.

Last evening we met our good friends at a favorite restaurant. All had good meals. Afterward we came back to our place for cards and desert. We all had an enjoyable evening.
