I don't know the year Norm got online.  I know he was on something that cost about $3 a minute but he got me on with a warning to not dally because going to SN or whatever it was called was free.  Boy, did I ever hurry so I wouldn't cost Norm any more money than that one charge.  I think I got on in 1996.  I know when I visited Norm and Dot in Florida the first time, we had to share his computer (he had a desktop and they drove to FL in those days).  I got a laptop to take with me after that so we didn't have to share; he was on the computer much more than I was.  I don't remember the year Papa John, Cornelia and Wrinkles stopped to see us, but it was after 1997 because he was in Sun City Center by that time.

As I posted the above message, my Random Image showed a picture of Papa John and Beverly.  How timely!

Hal, I'm sure our Joan (Bis) was having a great time on this folder. I'll bet she got busy right away and got interested in starting Bis' Nest..So many did the same, in various forums. I'm just a plain old poster. I was so busy back then with family stuff, and then moving to Sunwest Village where I joined everything and started several new programs there where I lived. Still was an avid Sr. Netter though, and intend to remain as long as the good Lord keeps me able.

Mary Ann, Norm's Program was my other favorite spot to visit. He and Papa John kept us in laughter almost every day. They were a wonderful pair of friends. Corneiiia was such a lovely lady, and Papa John was no slouch in the "looks" dept. either. As I recall, they were retired Missionaries weren't they?

I am due in 10 minutes for Choir practice……so off I go. June

A good Thursday to all.

I have had a bit of a problem getting in here, so hope it will continue until I finish my post.

I love reading about the old fun we all had back in the days of Senior Net.  I still refer to this group as SNetters when I speak to friends or family and am making reference to us.  I think I joined in the latter part of '97. Love thinking back on all of the "box" friends, as my family referred to all of you.  Then I got to meet so many of you, that they could no longer call you that.  My thoughts are vivid and as I think back to so many that we have lost.  It sure is a wonderful memory.

JACKIE, I am happy that your baby is home with you again.  Please do not beat yourself up over the timing of his demise.  Just thank the Good Lord that you had the ability to put him to rest so he would suffer no more pain.  A big HUG to you as I know how difficult this process has been for you.

MARYANN, I will always regret not getting to meet Norm in person.  I felt as,though I did meet him, but it is and will continue to be a regret of mine.  I can not believe it will soon be a year, and yet...the time really does pass much too quickly.

We've had our first snow storm of the season...it was to be just a skiff, but right now we have in excess of three inches on the ground.  It was not suppose to stick as the ground is too warm.....haha, so much for the weather guessers!  I just talked to my cousin in Laramie and she said they were to get a doozie of a storm, but they got the "skiff"!

Enjoy the rest of your day, EVERYFRIEND.

CAN YOU BELIEVE THANKSGIVING is one week from today?

Mary Ann--It's fun to read how and when various folks came to
SN and what equipment they first used.

June--It wasn't too long after I came to the site that I was allowed to open the Nest.  We had lots of fun--good memories.  Unfortunately many who participated back then are no long with us here.

Jenny--Snow--yuck.  Maybe your trouble getting here was due to Oldiesman switching us to a new server last night.  Sometimes it takes some providers a bit of time to recognize the new location.   You. like myself, enjoy reading about those early years of SN.  No, I can't believe is next week.

Got to Choir practice on time. I think I did baaaaad. Ears decided to block up, I can't get used to how quickly they sing certain verses, and there are changes from men to women that we have to watch for. My problem may be ME.

Then went for a bandage change, learned that healing is taking place...slowly...but my artery problem doesn't help in healing. Then I went for Balance and Mobility class, but was 15 minutes late..had a good time anyway.

The rest of the day is mine....to visit with you, to catch up on emails, or more sorting of paperwork. However the Spirit moves me. Life is great !

Mary Ann - It was an honor to meet Papa John. Such a dear man.  I'm thankful I had the chance to meet so many SeniorNetters.

I found SN in either 1996 or 1997. My husband was traveling a lot and we lived in Oklahoma, far from family. His business was computers and writing software for the livestock markets. He kept coaxing me to get online to pass some of the time he was away. I finally gave in and got the internet. Got brave enough to search and found Senior Net! The International Cafe was where I got started. Also Boot's forum (the name escapes me right now). From there on I was hooked! My first big bash was in Dallas, Texas. We were all so nervous about meeting all these "strangers" (and some of us were warned by families  :) ) It didn't take long before we were one big family.

Joan - Do you remember when Jane Walker and I drove to Arkansas and met with you at Esther Barber's? I have pictures of that day.

Tomorrow we will be leaving for a week in Aruba. Kind of an early celebration of our 60th wedding anniversary, which is next June.

Hope you all have a good week.

June Drabek

I have eaten my supper, taken a sponge bath...just like the old days...I don't want to get my bandage wet, and I'm not supposed to even try the shower unless I have someone alerted and waiting till I finish...phooey...Oh well, I have no right to complain. I did it my self...no one pushed me into falling, so I will sponge till the leg is healed. I am good and tired now...lots of exercise goes in to cleansing the body, and I am content, sleep will come quickly.

God Bless you dear hearts. Sleep peacefully, God is watching over us. I love you. June

Happy Anniversary (early), Beverly and have a wonderful time!  Nice to make a year of it.

June, I just woke up from another nap.... twice today to make up for 2 nights this week of only 2-3 hours each.  The old bodies do rule, don't they?  Glad they take such good care of you.  How long has it been since you sold your house & gave up on washing your car.  Funny how some things stick in our mind, picturing you washing your car always made me smile because I love doing that myself.

Our family Thanksgiving will be THIS Sunday so I am still gathering up stuff for my share.  When I bought the 2 turkeys & bags of Pepperidge Farm stuffing mix + celery & onions that go in... and they only had the 12 oz packs of Reames noodles & down to 2 of those, so I need to get a couple more.  I do make a huge pot of the turkey & noodles so all can have some take home.  One of the turkey breasts goes into that dish & that way the ones that like drumsticks have 4 to fight over.  Since we have 6 or 7 birthdays in one week and another baby due the 20th or 21st.... we have birthday cake for dessert.... this year ice cream cake from Dairy Queen.  I start baking one turkey for the noodles on Sat & will bake the other on Sunday since we aren't getting together until about 4:00 pm (kids get naps earlier... 5 gr-grands so far)...We do the family portrait at this time so have camera batteries charging & got out the tripod.  Big deal.... 2 of the grands & families are planning over-seas trips during Christmas holidays so this is the only time this year that all will be together.

Good night, Jane.... we'll turn out the lights together.......... :smitten:

Now I'd better go see if any of the cats want a midnight snack.  Must check weather, think it is supposed to turn cold tonight, I missed the news.  Sweet dreams to all and to all a good night.... Shirley

CHUCKLES

At the Movies

After I had purchased movie tickets for myself and my girlfriend, she went inside to find seats while I got some popcorn. By the time I was served, the previews were being shown. I stumbled my way through the dark, sat down and gave my girlfriend a kiss.

Then I heard a familiar voice say, "John, I'm back here."

Food For Thought

The Winning Streak
(By Roy Irwin)

It was a long time coming, but it finally happened! It probably wasn't big news where you live but it made the headlines of the papers here. It was even mentioned on television during the evening news!

What did you miss? What was this milestone event???

My old high school football team finally won a game! For the first time in 35 games, a span covering 4 years, the longest losing streak in NC high school football finally came to an end!

As I read the details the next day in the newspaper, what caught my attention wasn't the final score or the action photo from the game, it was something that the coach had told his players when the contest was over.

He told his team, "...we need to be a lot more interested in starting a winning streak than ending a losing streak." What was important to the coach was that his players not worry about the past, but rather focus on today and the future.

I couldn't help but think about how true this is in our lives as well...

Someone once concluded that 92% of the things that people worry about fall into one of three categories: things that have already happened, things that haven't yet and may not happen, and things that we have no control over.

Perhaps you can relate to that...

But Jesus gave us a different example. With Jesus, what was important was today with a focus on the future!

As Jesus was dying on the cross, there on either side of him, were criminals who were also being crucified. One of these men acknowledged Jesus as the Son of God, and asked Jesus to remember him when he came into his kingdom. Jesus answered him, "I tell you the truth, TODAY you will be with me in paradise." Luke 23:43 (NIV - emphasis mine)

In that defining moment, what was most important wasn't the man's past - it was his future!

And so it is for each of us!

By the shed blood of Jesus Christ, our past - our sins - have been forgiven! It no longer exists! The Bible describes it this way in 2 Corinthians 5:17 "Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; the old has gone, the new has come!" (NIV)

How about you?

Ending a losing streak or starting a winning streak. Frederick W. Faber said it this way: "They always win who side with God."

Are you living in the past or looking toward the future? Are you ready to start a winning streak in your life by living for the Lord? It can happen today!

"Dear Lord Jesus, thank you for forgiving our past, and giving us a hope and a future. Help us to be more like you each day. Amen."

Good morning everyone.

We are on the road again, off to the city. The quilting group meets today to sew but I am not staying to do that, just dropping off the camp quilts. We are meeting up with daughter in love for brunch and to give her a bushel of Cortlands. Have a bit of shopping to do, not much and then head back home.

Sandy :hb2: happy birthday.

Joan thank you for breakfast.

Enjoy your day everyone.

Good Morning Everyone!

And a big Happy Birthday to Sandy.  I hope you have a great one.

The cleaning lady is coming this morning so I kinda gotta get my coffee and clean myself up so I can go pick her up.  Our cold front is suppose to be coming in around noontime with scattered showers and boomers.  No serious rain is forecast.

Hope everyone has a great day.

Mary Ann

Happy Birthday Sandy.  May you have many more birthdays.

I saw two weather-related things online this morning.  One was to be careful on the pier this weekend because it will be quite windy.  The other was that we should not expect a lot of ice on Lake Michigan this winter as the water is too warm and will stay that way for some time.  Lake Michigan is very choppy this morning.

Good morning everyone, yesterday when I got here I saw the site was down and going to a new server, never did check back to see when it got back on.

JANE  your post to Lloyd about worrying about family sounds like me. They are all doing good but I still worry about all of them.

JOAN  I have the disk from the MRI but will know when I see the doctor. Will have to call and change that appointment, cannot find transportation that day.

SHIRLEY  I do like scrambled eggs but I did not save that link you posted. Will have to back track to look for that post.

LLOYD  did you save me that first crusty slice of bread?

MARY ANN  seems like when I even have one thing different to do in one day I am worn out. I think I have become a creature of habit and dislike changes.

JOAN  I copied yesterday's One out of Ten. That is too true.

JACKIE  you can be sure you did the right thing. You would not want him to be suffering in pain.

LLOYD  those church suppers are always wonderful. I know I enjoyed them when I used to go.

AMY  there are mornings when I wake up and just do not want to get up. If you can sleep longer just do it.

PHYLLIS  glad you enjoyed getting out and doing what you enjoyed.

JOAN  like you I had and old IBM to start with, It was my older son's first PC and his son took it to his first year in college. I did not want it but I sure would be lost without a PC now.

JANE  I saw an article in a local newspaper about SN and checked it out. Mare emailed me and invited me to check out the Nest. I well remember the fun we had there Mare and Bunnie were always teasing each other. In  Missouri it was fun, too, with Martex and her “trips”. Then I found PSP there and was fascinated at what some were doing on their computers.

HAL  the fun we had in the Nest was light hearted and laughs. Nothing really serious.

JENNY  we sure have lost some good friends over the years and some who never made the change to S&F.

SHIRLEY  reading about all the cooking you still are able to do reminds me of when I did that, too. Now I wound lot be able to do any of those preparations.

JOAN  will enjoy breakfast this morning, looks yummy. Food for Thought really is something to think about. Thank you for all today's goodies.

AMY  Cortland apples are great, nice flavor.

Good morning, Joy.  I was wondering where you were.:)

Good morning, Phyllis.

halkel--Good morning.  They say temp is to go much lower this weekend, but still no rain in the forecast.

Mary Ann--Good morning.  Interesting about Lake Michigan's change for this year.

Good morning, Gloria.   I must have missed the downtime here yesterday--when I came everything was up and running.  It's too bad you have such a hard time getting a ride to your appointments.  If you lived near me, I'd take you.

Good Morning Everyone..

Wow..  Thank you very much.   Birthdays
are something that I
would like to forget,
but then again,
considering the alternative,
I  will enjoy the day
with gusto!!!

All is well here on the rocky

weather is on the way,
but we do have
a couple more pleasant

in for good.

I hope that everyone has
a nice weekend,  and
thanks again for
the good wishes!

Hi everyone on another beautiful day here in South Carolina. We were not under an alert for the wild fire smoke either yesterday or today.  The housekeeper is due here this morning and later this morning Pat and I are going to COSTCO.  My new glasses are ready and she needs to select some new frames and get a new prescription filled as her eyesight has changed.  That will probably be it for today.

I did fix her breakfast this morning.  However, last evening she helped fix the dinner.  We had a spaghetti squash that we fixed in the oven and a topping of Italian sausage heated in Marinara sauce with a green salad.  We have enough of the main dish for another good meal.

Phyllis, are you experiencing any of the smoke from the forest fires?  It has been a long time since I just went to the library and slowly browsed around but always enjoyed it.  New libraries are always nice.  Our library here uses a service called Hoopla for ebooks and audiobooks and movies and it is great.  When it started there didn't seem to be much of a selection but that is no longer the case.  We still haven't decided on what we will have for our Thanksgiving meal.  Mrs. Smith does have some very good pies as does Marie Callendar and Mrs. Edwards.  I wonder how I know that!  :)

Sandy, good to remove clutter from our lives when possible.  Happy Birthday.

My first computers were the Atari 400 and then upgraded to the Atari 800.  This was before the days of the WWW and communication was done on bulletin boards, which seemed very up to date.  I then got an AT&T desktop computer that was quite expensive and extremely heavy.  From there we have had numerous other desktop and laptop computers. Over 20 years ago, about the same time I joined SeniorNet my son gave me an HTML book and started doing some basic HTML work.  I would sure miss not having a computer anymore and am thankful for the smart phones, which are really sophisticated computers.

Joan, I think you and I found SeniorNet about the same time.  I know Joan Grimes bet me as did Pat Scott and Ginny Anderson.  Boots had her Tidbits (I think that as the name of her discussion and many other discussions developed from there.  I haven't tried to keep up with more than two or three discussions so didn't become acquainted with a lot of folks who have been posting as long as I have.

Shirley, you have a very busy family and I bet you all have a wonderful time when you get together for big family events.

Mary Ann, when Pat became interested in the computer we shared one but that didn't last long and she wanted her own.  That was probably because I was always on what we had then.
