Chilly Sunday morning greetings!

We stayed in all day yesterday as did most everyone else from the almost zero people we saw on the beach and the street.  We have a corner unit, so can see both and on over to the Laguna Madre Bay three streets over.  The island is VERY narrow...3 streets wide! :coolsmiley:

Today we're meeting Iowa Friends for dinner at 1:30.  We're trying to eat a larger meal at the lunch/noonmeal time frame and then lighter in the evening.  I also want to see the GB-NY Giants Wild Card game and that's at 3:30 CT.

The winds appear to have died down and the sky is much clearer than Fri or Sat.

The good thing about being in all day Sat was I got the bed linens washed and back on, all laundry caught up, my Quicken set up for 2017 and caught up....whooo hoo....all up to date...and I gave myself a mani-pedi with a new color I found I had brought with me! [So...saved $40.00 plus tip, too~~

SharonE

Wow, Jane, you're on a roll!  Wish I had gotten that much done!  Eating a big meal at lunch and lighter for dinner is supposed to be healthier, but John is gone at lunchtime most of the time and just not sure I could revamp my day that way.

It's still about 29° for a high here, but the sun is out and a lot of the snow is melting. The streets were dry and clear for our trip to church. The early service and SS were both cancelled for today, so just the 11:00 service which is what we attend anyway.

I started my new book last night, WHEN IN FRENCH, which is about a NC woman who marries a Frenchman and ends up living in Geneva, Switzerland and not knowing any French, so so far it is mostly a discussion of culture and attitudes toward language. Eventually she takes French lessons, but I haven't gotten to that part yet. So far, not particularly entrancing. Hope it improves.

Mary, is your snow gone already?  I do hope you can get out a little today.

Sue, I noticed SC beat AU, so you must have been somewhat happy.  IU & Butler both won their games yesterday.

Thanks, Marilyn, for the degree sign info. I think Jane had given that to us once before but I couldn't get it to work, but it did this time.  Glad your snow is gone and you can walk Freckles again.

I hope everyone is having a good day.  Sharon

Nothing happening around here.  It's only about 30 right now (tried the Alt 0176, but it didn't come up), but sunny.  Margaret is at the Lady Vols game in Knoxville.  She's going to stop here on her way home, and we'll go out to dinner (nearby Chinese place).  And I guess I'll be back in the normal routine in the upcoming week.  (Yawn!)

Hello everyone, we are home from church and had some lunch. I have heard so much about Nathan's skinless  hotdogs that we bought some to try with home canned Sauerkraut that my friend Ingrid gave me. I am still trying to eat very healthy so I con't know how healthy this meal will be. I used to fry  cut up wieners, onions and potatoes for an evening meal when the kids we you young. That has always been a favorite  cheap meal for me even growing up back when I didn't have much income to feed my family. My 4 older kids dad would only give me $1-0 a week to buy food and  2 cartons of cigs had to come out of that too. WE ate a lot of beans, tortillas, rice, hamburger and hot dogs.

jane

Happy Monday Morning Greetings!

We've had a walk on the beach and it's beautiful out there....a southern breeze and mild temps in high 60s or low 70s.  PERFECT for me.  We're having a brief sit-down before going to the Library to return a book and to the HEB grocery store over in Port Isabel.

It's kind of weird...I had a skin tag on my neck which was rubbed by a necklace I wear all the time.  The dermatologist wouldn't remove it because insurance won't pay and it's not a dangerous thing.  He said I could take it off myself.  Well, I looked around the internet, and decided to try Vit E.  The instructions were to buy the capsule, pierce one and apply the oil topically to the tag and with two weeks it'd be gone.  Uh huh, I thought...but what the heck.  I did...and it's GONE!  I hated it because it'd get rubbed and sore and bleed.  Now...just a little red mark there...nothing sticking out.  HURRAH!!  I knew Vit E applied to open sores help healing, but I didn't know about this.

Have a good Monday, Babes!

SharonE

Jane, cool on the Vit E/skin tag. It's amazing what we can find on the web. Glad you're having nice weather.  It's still pretty cold here, may reach 33. Most of our snow is gone except in the shade. To be in the 40's tomorrow, 50's Wed & 60's the rest of the week!!  I wonder what it would be like to live somewhere where the temp is almost always the same like San Diego or Hawaii.  I suppose I'd get bored.

I took Bunny to the vet to be weighed. She has been acting like we're starving her.  We have cut her food a bit in order to get her weight down. She has lost 4/10 of a lb in the past month or so, so that's a pretty big amount, so I decided I would increase her noon meal a little and see if that helped her feel less abused. I've thought about putting her on a diet dog food, but she likes the one she is on and we've had such problems with her digestion, I'm afraid to change it.  She is very active and wants to play and has been running around in the yard, even in the snow. We're so happy to see that after this past year's problems.  Then, she wouldn't go farther than 6-8 ft off the patio.

Marilyn, how were your Nathan's hot dogs and sauerkraut?  I don't think I have ever fixed them together, but sounds interesting.  It sounds like you had a hard time with your former husband.

I' going to try to clean out my bookcases and dust them all. I'm not throwing anything out, but they're kind of messy.  I also need to get on Amazon and order some books for Sean for his birthday the 19th. He will be 15! Hard to believe. He was always my little guy and now he's taller than both Braeden & Brian by a bit.  Brian's 6'1" and Braeden is a smidge under 6'.

I've been out and de-iced and refilled the bird bath and think I may go put some mealy worms out for the bluebirds.  They have been flocking to them according to people on the Carolina Birders on FB.  I usually wait until Feb, but with the cold weather, I think they will like it.

Mary, you sound bored.  I hope you can find something interesting to do. With swimming and bridge today, you ought to be entertained.  This time of the year, it is easy to get a bit down though and you're still adjusting to lots of changes.

Sue, where are you?  Ginny, you need to check in too.  Jeanne, are you thaawing out yet?  Hi to Darlene too.  Sharon

maryz

Back into the routine on this "warm" (42 degrees) day.  I went to the regular swim class, and then to coffee.  I'll be going to duplicate tonight.

Sharon, I think last week with the snowy weather and over the holidays, regular activities were just curtailed.  Now the routine is picking back up, and I'll be getting out and around.  I have the two knitting projects that I'm alternating working on, and that's keeping me busy, too.

From the lack of activity in the various boards here, I think everybody is sort of in the winter doldrums.  LOL

Sharon we didn't have the Natha's hot dogs last  night but will., tonight.

The Social Worker from Hospice called this morning to tell me my client had passed this morning and to offer  grief counseling if i wanted it. I'm OK I don't need Grief counseling.

Freckles and I have a free week this week without any visits. It is good to have a breadk, necxt week we have 3 visits and the library children's reading program.

GinnyAnn

It sure must be the winter doldrums that has me in the dumps. One thing I like about left overs, no cooking  ;D  Right now Ray is watching the news. I don't like to watch the news any more because it upsets me. Ray likes it and doesn't get upset for the most part.

Just said a prayer for all of you and yours.

SCFSue

HI Buddies.  I was busy all day yesterday.  I went to Sunday School, Church, home for lunch, went to the AU Arena for a women's basket ball game.  My neighbor Cheryl picked me up and used my extra ticket to go with me.  She won't be able to go every time, so I'm looking for other friends who might enjoy women's basketball when she can't go.  Our gals played really well and won by a significant margin over Ole Miss (Mississippi University).  The game didn't start until 3:00, so it was dark when we got home.

Today I did some laundry, did my morning walk, showered and dressed.  My friend Carolyn invited me, Libba, and Terrell (who I don't know well, but have played bridge with her before today).  Libba lives in my neighborhood, so picked me up and drove me out to Carolyn's home.  I had a good time, some good and some bad cards, and enjoyed getting out of the house.

I like leftovers, too, but never have many.  Tim does bring me things he has cooked and I always appreciate it.  He came by this morning and is feeling better, but he must have had the flu--He was ill for a week.  I'm glad he was feeling better.  Kris's birthday is on Saturday and Tim will pick me up to meet the Snyder's at The Depot for a birthday lunch.  Ard and Dave's Army grandson, wife, and 2 small children will come, too.  Tim didn't say whether Dave is feeling well enough to come to the restaurant.

I'm waiting for the Clemson/Alabama game to come on.  I'm keeping my fingers crossed and hoping that Clemson will win.  I, of course, am supposed to hate Clemson as they are South Carolina's biggest rival, but I'd pick them any day over the "Crimson Tide"!  And Bill went to Clemson with a grant to earn his PhD, so I like it for that.

Have a nice evening, Buddies--and GO CLEMSON!
Sue

maryz

I went to duplicate tonight.  We had really yucky cards - usually not even enough to play decent defense.  I did get into one difficult hand and played it well and made the contract.  That made evening not a total loss.  LOL  Such is life playing bridge.
"When someone you love dies, you never quite get over it.  You just learn how to go on without them. But always keep them safely tucked in your heart."

jane

Morning, Babes!!

Sue...WHOOO HOOOO.....Clemson beat the Tide last night..what a game.  I started to go to bed several times and then one or the other would score and it was sooooo close.  Wow! Tuscaloosa is probably in deep mourning today!

It's a beautiful day here...Ray's gone off to golf in B'ville, and I'm about to walk and then take my containers up to the IGA to get water refills.  A person doesn't realize how much water they use daily until they just use filtered/bottled water for cooking and drinking!

maryz

My granddaughter's boyfriend is a Clemson grad, so I know they're over the moon today!  As are all Tennessee fans, too!

Good almost afternoon Buddies, I'v ew been to the Chiropractor this morning, Freckles went along with me, then came home and vacuumed  most of the house until Keith came in  from the garage and he took over, All he  had left to do was the master bedroom,  and half of the hall. I probably should not have vacuumed after m,y adjustment. I'm not going to the gym today though, that would really mess up my adjustment.

They showed that winning touchdown on the news last night, Wow, Way to go Clemson.

It sure is wet here, but now half as bad as it is in California.  I hope this rain and snow breaks their drought, and doesn't do  so much damage in the areas that had the forest fires and the land is so barren.

joyous

I, too, was delighted that Saban lost  :)although I hated to see an SEC team lose.
Most everyone down here in Louisiana don't have any "love" for Saban after his
leaving us (LSU) for Alabama some years
ago. >:(
The last second of the game winning TD was indeed spectacular :)

Another warm and sunny day coming....80s again.  Nothing much on our calendar for today, except a walk before it gets too hot.

[Yep...more sports talk following, so feel free to skip...

I think it's better when one team...hs, college or pro...doesn't always stay #1.  UConn Women are the next one who needs an upset... :2funny:]

Jane

SharonE

Hi Gals, I don't have an opinion on the games, but I will say that there are a lot of happy South Carolinians this week! :)  Panthers are a bust this year, IU started out strong, but doesn't seem to be able to pull off the wins they need. Butler, however, is going strong. It is ranked 12th this week and has won again since.  That's my sports input!

Marilyn, I agree with your concerns for southern California. They certainly need rain, but not mudslides and floods.  Hope your back is okay after vacuuming.

I didn't accomplish a whole lot yesterday, just bits and pieces, nothing significant.  I hope to get some things done today. Top of my list is cleaning my fridge before I go shopping tomorrow.

Ginny, the winter doldrums can be depressing. We need to fabricate activities to keep us going till the sun comes out.  It is rainy here today with a high of 50 or so.

Hi to Joy, Mary, Jane, & Sue & anyone else I've missed.  Sharon

SCFSue

Jane, UConn has been needing an upset (and a different coach!) for quite some time--I was hoping Dawn Staley could get a win from him with South Carolina Gamecocks, but it didn't happen when they went to Connecticut!  But Hallelujah for Clemson!  I love Dabo!

And I guess everyone who is a football fan knows why he's called Dabo--but if not--he called himself Dat Boy when very young which morphed into Dabo.  And he's been Dabo ever since.  And he graduated from Alabama.

Sharon, as a one time South Carolinian, I am very happy about the win.  I'm sorry about the Panthers as I still like Cam although he's been a bit sulky/testy this year.

Joy, you can just imagine how happy we Auburn Fans were when sulky Saban stalked off at the end of the championship game.  What a jerk!

Hi Mary, GinnyAnn, and others looking in.  Have a nice day.

Jonathan and I have had breakfast.  I'm going to play bridge at 1:00 and I think he'll go to Tiger Town, but maybe not.  He loves to read and has already chosen some of my re-readables--and probably stayed up late to finish the one he started before I went to bed.

Sue

GinnyAnn

I hibernated most of today. Still fighting a cold.  Talked with a friend on the phone.  She is a friend that God put in my life. :-)   Haven't listened to the news because it is so depressing.  Ray just told me that it is nice outside and encouraged me to go out. So going now.

SharonE

Ginny, I agree on the news.  I watch the national CBS news with Scott Pelley at 6:30 (I think) and the local news at 11:00, and that's it. John is a Fox News addict and watches it several times a day, but it just stresses me out. I want to know what's going on, but I don't want to wallow in it and let it color my outlook.

I just read an article from the NY Times on partisanship that I thought was quite good. I did share the link on FB, but for those of you not on FB, if you are interested, here is the link.  https://www.nytimes.com/2017/01/11/upshot/the-real-story-about-fake-news-is-partisanship.html?smid=fb-nytimes&smtyp=cur&_r=0

Marilyn

I see I haven't posted yet today. I took Shadow in to be neutered this morning and found out he is already neutered. I did get all his shots for him though.

Sherry I didn't mess my back up by vacuuming and I am very surprised about that. I forgot to go to tai Chi today but I did go to the gym this morning after watching part of Trump's press conference. All I can do is shake my head and what he says because I just do not believe what comes out of his mouth. I left while the lawyer was speaking.

maryz

Good to hear from everybody today.  I went to the Y this morning, and then to the financial counsellor with Margaret late this afternoon.  That was it for me on this gray, rainy day.

Hugs to all the Buddies!

SharonE.

Yes. I am still here in the Cold Illinois. It just going up and down. Never the same each day. On a few days it went to 40 we had 60 miles a hour winds. Something awful.  For some reason I am really tired of winter and not even into the worse part of it yet..
Saw where Indiana beat Us the other day. Haven't been following the games this year. No idea who is even playing now.

Your little dog seems to be doing so well.  Had us all worried last year. Though you would loose her. Amazing how animals can get through things.
4 years ago I brought the bird of mine home because it was laying on this breeder cage floor where she had at least 20 birds in there. Not a feather on it and just chewed up. Stayed up tube feeding it thinking would not last the night. then 2 nights. Still not in good feather but great company. Improving daily. Just received another shipment of Vit. Powder at $35 dollars a shot but we do it.
Surprised to see the weather further down South getting so cold these nights. May as well stay in Illinois.
JeanneP

maryz

Jeanne, glad your bird is recovering.  It was very cold here last weekend, but it supposed to be in the mid-to-upper 60s for the next week.  Crazy!

Morning, Glories!

We met friends for supper last night at a favorite "pub" we can walk to easily.  The male part of that couple doesn't care for seafood, so we have to go places where he can get a burger that's decent.    They drive because of her heart and pulmonary hypertension issues, but we walked.  It was dark when we walked back, but during the winter here, there's nobody out walking at night.

I'm hoping to get a walk in before it gets too hot.

Have a good Thursday!

Good Morning, Buddies.  Jon left about 8:30 and is on his way to Atlanta.  He'll help Damian pack up the truck they'll take to Arizona for the winter Rock shows/sales and will be off for 3-4 weeks of selling rocks and minerals.  He'll leave his car in Atlanta and will probably stop here on his way home in February.  I enjoyed his visit and will be glad to see him again for at least an overnight then.

Tim is coming by at 10:30 to go to the bank with me.  We'll talk to one of their investment counselors and I'll possibly add something to my accounts there.  It depends on what they are offering.  I have a CD maturing soon and it's making only a pittance, so would like to get something that earns more.

I just got the guest room sheets into the dryer, so need to shower and dress now.  I'd like to get my morning walk in before Tim gets here.  According to the morning news, our temperature is going to get up into the 70's today and for a few days also.

Have a good day, Buddies.

Good luck with your financial stuff, Sue.  Margaret and I met with my financial gal yesterday.  We had thought we had finally gotten everything taken care of.  But no! mail showed up last week addressed to "JDZ (Dec)", so we're having to jump through some hoops for that one.  But we're close!  These folks are SO good (even Margaret is pleased), and I'm so glad to have them to manage stuff for me.

I've been to Silver Sneakers this morning, and that'll be it for the day.  I've watched some of the Senate hearings, but can't stay with it for too long - so mostly the TV is off during the day. They're painting in the empty apartment next door to me.  The maintenance guy doesn't know if it's rented or if they're just getting ready to show it to potenetial renters.  We shall see.  It'll be nice to have a new neighbor.

jane, glad you're getting your walking in. It'd be nice to have someplace close enough to walk to.

Hi to all the Buddies!

Mary, we did get to the bank and renewed the CD, but the man who works with new investments wasn't there.  We made an appointment to see him next Tuesday afternoon.  We'll listen to his spiel, come home and talk it over, and go back later if we decide to invest in whatever he's selling.  I know Tim will go online to research the investment before we discuss it fully.

Afterwards we went to our favorite Mexican Restaurant for lunch.  I had the usual #5 lunch meal which is 2 tacos, rice, and beans.  He had something I didn't recognize, but we both enjoyed the lunch.

I still have Christmas stuff out.  I didn't put up a tree this year.  My neighbors gave me a little table top tree and I need to return it to them.  Instead of getting busy on the decorations, I found a book I hadn't read in a long time and am about halfway through with it.  My plan for the rest of the evening is to watch the news (and hope it doesn't upset me) and watch some basket ball games if the TCM movie or one of the other movies doesn't seem interesting.

Sue.  Hope you go a better deal on CDs. than we have here.  I use to invest mostly in them for years. What did we get.? At least 4 to 5 percent. Been watching money sit making .001. There is one bank here in town advertising some at 1.25 for 2 years. I am getting tempted as I don't think things going to get any better in 2017 interest wise.

I have already broken my NY resolution. One was to stay of computers until I get other things done.  this was my day today.  Watched a dvd 3 hours program last night and went to bed at 12:15am. Got up at 10:30. read paper, had breakfast. made bed.  I now have Desktop, Ipad. Amazon Fire tablet. and went and bought a 10.5 inch tablet. at Christmas time. Decided I would spend a minute seeing what it did. And was surprised to notice that every thing I put on the 7'" Fire which  is books to take with me on appointments as it goes in my purse.  Well every book I have on the fire now appears on the new tablet. I do a E-M on the Amazon fire and over it shows on the new tablet also. So ended up playing until 3pm just to see what would happen. I am at a loss now as to how all these things work. Must be something that works through Google.  As none on my things are the same make. I tunes seem to by billing me for books on IPad and Amazon bills for Fire all from the same CC number. I ordered a book from the library on the Amazon fire today. and i is showing up on both Tablets. Soon there will be nothing about us that will not be known.
I did manage to go outdoors and clean all the leaves that had pilled up from the 60 mile winds yesterday. Also went to pick up the laundry. May as well just forget my NY resolutions.
