Good evening, well the blizzard stopped around 6, but they said the wind would stay around all night, along with falling temp. I am going to leave the water running in both bath rooms. They say we could still have power outage, as the snow is so heavy on the lines and trees.

I haven't heard the final results of the snowstorm up north, but me managed to miss most of the worst bit. It did come down very heavy and fast for a while, but than it managed to warm up enough afterward to melt a lot. I got the rest of my snow cleared yesterday afternoon when the sun was out. I have so much more energy on a sunny day.

Patricia, I once had a Siamese cat (Baby) who, along with Sammy Katz and sometimes Midnight, would sit at the bottom of my bed, quietly, and just keep an eye on me when I was sick. Baby was the eldest and a female so I suspect the other two just followed her lead. I appreciated the quiet company.

Hi everyone.  It is a bright clear morning here in South Carolina and we are headed to 53 degrees today.  I have to have my car at the dealer for an oil change at 10:15 and want to get a haircut this morning so will be brief today.

I wish I could share our good weather with all of you who are dealing with snow.  We have the tulip trees in bloom now and some other bushes are blooming.

Patricia, I didn't know all of that info about cats.  Farrah wants to comfort you as she must sense you are ill.  I am sure we overfeed our cat.

Marilyne

Our son and dil brought their dog over last night, for a four day visit.  He's a sweet, calm, chocolate Lab named Cocoa. No problem, except that Winnie is afraid of him, because he barked, the first time they saw each other. (years ago.)  I think there's a possibility they could be friends, now that they're both old and mellow, but I don't want to risk having a problem . . .  so Winnie stays down in the basement while Cocoa is here.

Son and wife are flying to Los Angeles, to attend the Grammy Awards. (Sunday night.)  Her brother is one of the producers, so gets tickets every year for them and other family members.  Tonight they're going see Tom Petty, at a  dinner theater.  It's not a concert, but more like a show.  Last year they saw Paul McCartney.

Larry - I didn't know you also had a cat! What is his/her name, and how old?

Mary Ann

Marilyne, the story is that Kendrick was raised with dogs.  He was five months old when Annie bought him.  However, he is now 3 1/2 years old and hasn't seen a dog since Annie bought him so I think he and a dog would not get along.  Heck, when someone strange comes here, he gets away in a hurry.  I think sometimes he's under my bed and other times down stairs.  He has learned when his "mother" (Annie) comes and doesn't run away, but he doesn't race toward her either.

Kendrick will be on my bed, or beside me on the davenport, and when/if I cough, away he goes.

No new news on the babies today.

Mary Ann

We are at 49 degrees and the sun is shining.  Hopefully this white stuff will melt now.

Good afternoon here in the Interior at 12:26PM. My sinuses seem to be on the mend, at least the headaches have decreased in severity into a dull feeling. I think the air pressure contributed to much of it and as the pressure stabilizes, so do my sinuses. At least that seems to be my experience.

Larry, aminal science like human science is never very static like most fields. The biggest debate still raging is about nature versus nurture. There are two distinct camps or theories and of course many in the middle. "The nature versus nurture debate is about the causes of differences between people. Like all living things, people have inherited innate qualities. ... the public debate is all about humans, the principles apply to any living thing, plants as well as animals. ... "Whereto nature makes him toward, but that nurture sets him forward".

I think Larry once had a cat but no longer does, Marilyne. And yes, Farrah and other animals sense and react to those around them and scientists believe we do send out smells and changes in electricity that they, the animals, react to. Look at the various types of therapy and service animals.  I love and studied, very briefly genetics. And the similarities between human and animals is startling. We just have to realize that we are just different parts of a whole, evolution-wise. For example, feral and barn cats don't meow among themselves. That vocalization came about purely to communicate with humans.

MarsGal, I had an apple head Siamese, Beijing, for twenty years before she died in January 2011. I actually stole her. Some boys were tormenting her outside, throwing rocks at her and chasing her. I went in and quickly scooped her up, but not before getting a rock to the shoulder. The boys said that's our cat. I told them that we should all go to the police and let them figure it out. Suddenly the boys weren't so insistent.

I took her to my vet, called in to say I couldn't come into work, and paid 300. for a vet exam and other bloodwork, etc. I left notices at the local Animal Control, the newspaper, and my vet. No one ever came forward, and Beijing was the most Oriental name I could think of. The vet said she was about a year old at the time.

Beijing joined two-year-old Peter, a red cat or orange as he grew older. He was also a Pet Pride kitten who was found in an apartment with his dead mother and one other kitten who died soon afterward. The tenant of a no pets apartment was evicted, the landlord took the animals to the pound, and the pound took them to Pet Pride. I heard about it and adopted Peter. Peter also died in January 2011. Beijing and Peter died three days apart. The vet said it was like an old married couple along with simply old age.

Farrah actually slept not on my pillow but side by side with me last night. That was another first for her. I tend to sleep hard so that probably didn't last long, but there you go. She is still acclimating, and no she didn't go under the covers.

Patricia, I had two Siamese cats Toy Won and Ming Ching  I also had a Blue Point, which was so gentle  the kids use to play with her all the time, and I cannot remember her name. My son had two, but I cannot remember their names either. One was a kink tail. The wind has finally died down, it got up to 60 yesterday, but stayed around 23 all day to day.  Now  we are suppose to have another snow storm to night.

I don't have another cat tale but Tom did tell me that Eleanor doesn't have to use the CPAP now, so both babies are off them.

I don't know if we got to the predicted 40 degrees, but when I looked around 5 pm, we were at 36 degrees and now it is about the same.  One night next week we will go down to 20 degrees but otherwise we'll be higher than that.  We're fortunate that we did not get the weather that the East had, but winter is not over yet.

Gloria de., I'm glad to see you posting. It's interesting to hear about your Siamese.

MaryAnn, so good that the twins are doing well and breathing on their own.

Here are three photos of Peter and Beijing, probably from 2009.

Thanks for the photo, Patricia. I never heard of the term "apple head" cat before.

Hi everyone on a beautiful, clear 53 degree morning and we are headed into the mid-70's this afternoon with zero chance of rain.  After about two weeks I felt much better yesterday and am hoping for several days more like it.  I did get the oil changed in my car, then stopped and filled the gas tank at COSTCO and then got a haircut.  I then made a fast stop at the ATM at the Credit Union.  I told Pat I wanted to eat out last evening so we went to our favorite BBQ restaurant.  Pat had the half chicken and raved about it.  I stayed with he pulled pork sandwich.  Today should be a pretty light day as plan on staying home.  I hope to work on my income taxes this morning when I finish with the message boards.  I read my email and devotionals, as well as all the new postings since yesterday, before I got out of bed and have everything ready except beating the egg for Pat's scrambled eggs.  I expect her to sleep late this morning as she stayed up very late last night.  Today my only great granddaughter becomes a teenager.  So now I have two of my four great grandchildren that are teenagers.

Marilyne, as Patricia indicated we haven't had a cat for several years.  In our married life we have had only one cat and that was because our daughter wanted it and we gave in.  We had him for 14 years.  We had had a couple of dogs prior to that time.  We are not going to have anymore pets due to the care they require.

Joan, it sounds like you are finally getting a break in your weather.  I hope it begins to melt the snow.

Patricia, it was nice to read that you were feeling better yesterday and that you seem to be on the mend.  I hope you see more improvement today.  I guess some of the questions on animal and human science will never to totally resolved.  I saw the pictures of your two cats from the past.

deAngel, according to the weather report I saw last night you all may be in for more heavy snow.  I hope it misses you.

Mary Ann, certainly good news on the progress of the twins.

MarsGal, I have never heard the term "apple head" either for a breed of cat.

wjoan

Larry, it did do some melting yesterday.  Hopefully more today, we will see.  Too early to tell yet.  Still dark out there.

Good afternoon, some sunshine with the clouds.  NO WIND, but will come back tomorrow and Monday guest up to 50 again.

MaryAnn, thanks for keeping us posted about the babies. Each day is a gainer. It is 40 here to day

Patricia, thanks for posting those lovely pictures.

Larry, that snow storm seem to have missed, but bad again to morrow

Hello from a slowly going back to colder Interior! Well, as one of my old bosses at the Great Alaskan Bowl Company used to say, "This is why we don't have Gypsy moths, cockroaches, ticks, and many other nuisances up here!" The winters kill any remaining adult, nits or eggs.

Now you know I can never leave a question unanswered!  ::)

"Applehead" Siamese kittens and cats are known for their friendly, outgoing personalities. They are often vocal, letting their "people" know when they want something. They are big, bold and brassy."

The term applies to a later subset of the breed with a rounder head.

Marilyne

It's eleven o'clock here, so I still have some of my morning left.  Seems that if I don't get all the housework and such done by noon, then it waits until tomorrow.  So far, only the kitchen is done, and now will get to making the bed and picking up the mess that accumulates every day. ::)

I don't know if any of you have watched the news, and seen the storm damage here in my part of Northern CA?  The mudslides are so frightening, and cause billions of dollars in damage to roads, houses, people, et al.  I live right in the midst of the mess - as far as roads are concerned.  The winding highway 17, that runs from here in my town to Santa Cruz, has been closed off and on for a couple of days because of mudslides.  In this mornings paper, they reminded us that 50,000 commuters drive between here and there, every day! :o  So when the Hwy is closed, the people going south, are trapped here in town, and back into San Jose.  To say it's a mess is an understatement.  The restaurants sure do a lot of business though!

wjoan

Marilyne, I remember the last mud slides that S;F. had  Was terrible to see what happened that time.  I have not seen pics of this latest storm.  I do not watch TV.  Hope none affected you or yours this time.

Marilyne

wjoan - Those mud slides that you're remembering were terrible.  Houses in the Santa Cruz mountains were completely buried by mud, and lots of people lost their lives. So far only one person killed this time by a slide - a motorist on the road to Santa Cruz.  My brother & wife live up by Guerneville, and are now trapped in their house, because the Russian River has flooded the only access road in and out.  Fortunately they still have power, and plenty of food, so will be okay.

JeanneP

A few people braving walking on the beach today.  Looks cold still.  Not bad here today. 50 deg.  Would like to take a walk but taking a strong pill at this time that is making me like a Zomba. Better
not be out walking.  If you get the Deluth Web.  2 people walking that and really looks awful.  Not seen any ships go through in awhile

JeanneP

Marilyne, I remember when I lived in Marin <Novato> and the rain was So bad it closed all our roADS TO 101.  wE COULD NOT GET out so no one could get to work.  Was stranded for 4 days

Johann Mc

Hi, Friends! I'm really sorry not to get here more often but I seem to sort of race through every day getting the necessary things done, getting Windell to cardiac rehab and his doctor appointments, getting meals, and trying to keep the house reasonably straight and clean.

Have also been dealing with Time Warner Cable in the last two weeks to sync my internet and printers to a new modem.  After we got my desktop and my laptop working, I called Dell's help service to get my printer working on both of them.  The Dell tech installed a new printer driver for my desktop this past Wednesday and I arranged with them to sync the printer and laptop yesterday afternoon but when they called, I couldn't get online with the laptop.  Had to postpone that and call TWC back.  Their technician got my laptop connected again but now the printer won't work with either computer again so I'll have to spend some more time with Dell this coming week.   :tickedoff: #&$%#  Oh, well, this too will pass!

Like Larry said, it's a beautiful day here in South Carolina.  The sun is bright and it's 65° F.  I tried to see the lunar eclipse before we went to bed last night but the moon stayed bright so I guess I missed it.  Didn't manage to see the comet, either.

Joan, I hope you get some melting with your snow soon!  You don't want too much of a good thing!

Gloria, hope your weather doesn't get too bad.  I know your cat is a lot of company.  A lot of our "snowbirds" from the northeast are still here and are happy not to be shovelling snow.  Take care of yourself.  BTW, there is going to be a Tall Ships festival in Charleston in mid-May.  It is advertised on a page in Facebook.  I think it's May 19 - 21. We may try to go see our daughter then.  I love the tall ships!  They are so graceful looking.

Windell has lost two first cousins on his mother's side in the past two months.  One was 86 and died in early Dec. with Multiple Myeloma and the other one passed away a week ago and we went to her funeral last Sunday.  He is the last living sibling from his parents and also the last sibling on his generation on his mother's side now.

Marilyne, CA has been hit hard with the storms and rain.  My daughter was in Santa Cruz working at a veterinary clinic in 1989 when the Loma Prieta earthquake hit.  She was extracting fluid from a dog's lungs when the floor rippled under her and threw her off balance.  She said she immediately grabbed the dog around his middle with her left arm and jerked the needle out with her right hand and they both fell on the floor with bottles falling off the shelves and breaking around them.  They were both OK but the wife of one of the vets dashed in their front door 30 minutes later shaking and crying.  She had watched half of their house go over a cliff.  Stay safe!

Patricia, hope you are feeling better.  I've had some sinus drainage and a cough for about ten days now and I think it's beginning to get better.  Sure makes me feel draggy, though!

Mary Ann, our pets can be very entertaining!  I really miss having one!  Was wondering how Norm's widow Dot is doing these days.  I tried to go back and catch up with the posts last night but not sure I read them all.  You stay warm, too!  So glad your nephew is staying with you!

Love you all!  I think spring is on the way here!

We just got back from taking Tom's MIL back home to Sheridan.  She has wet Mac D so does not drive any more and Tom went to Sheridan to pick her up, then take her back home.  The purpose of the trip was to take her to the hospital to see her new great-granddaughters.  The grandmother is in California so won't see them for a couple of weeks yet.  I don't know when I'll see them because Tom is usually on his way somewhere when he goes to the hospital; it may be when the babies get home in late March.  It is nice that neither baby is using the CPAP and I found out they have opened their eyes.  Any pictures I've seen their eyes are closed.  Well, they are not a week old yet.

Johann, it's always good to see your post.  One of the twins has been names Johanna, but pronounced Jo Hanna.

It sounds like you are taking one step forward and two steps back with your Internet and printer.  Frustrating, isn't it?  I have that too with my Windows 10 laptop but I have another laptop where my printer does work.  I just printed out a lot of stuff, only to find that I need a new cartridge.  Tom ordered one from Amazon, it is here, I have only to put it in the printer.

Dot is doing fine.  She keeps so busy, it is hard to make contact with her.  Her daughter lives across the main road in our township and they see each other often.  She and I attend church together, then go to a hamburger joint to eat and talk and we do a good job of both.

Marilyne, I've seen some of the damage and weather in your part of the country.  Where I live we don't have mudslides.  We lose trees in bad storms, however.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY to LARRY!!

shirleyn

larryhanna

Hi everyone.  While the morning starts for me at about 63 degrees we will be close to 80 before the day is over.  Pat and I will attend Sunday School and Church, get something to eat, come home and rest and then go back to the Church this evening for the Valentine's Banquet put on for Seniors by the young people of the Church.  We attended last year and it was delightful.  I did stay home all day yesterday and did get my tax information together except for one document that should be here later this month.  Yesterday afternoon I fixed cole slaw for dinner using a sour cream dressing recipe from Bobby Flay of the Food Network.  It turned out well.

Shirley, thanks for the Birthday greeting.  Today is my 76th birthday.  We will celebrate with our son and granddaughter on Wednesday at a nice restaurant.

Patricia, thanks for the explanation of the "Applehead" Siamese cat.  We have not had enough cold weather down here to kill anything so we will probably have a lot of bugs this next spring and summer.

Marilyne, it sounds like a lot of people won't be able to get to work tomorrow with those mudslides especially if they destroyed the roads.  Glad you are OK.

JeanneP, hope today finds you feeling better.

Johann, it is very frustrating anytime one has to deal with the cable company.  Not all of their people are knowledgeable of what they are suppose to do.  It is always sad when we lose members of our family circle.

I am short on time this morning so didn't attempt to comment to everyone but have read all of the messages.

Mary Ann

Happy Birthday Gloria De and Larry.  I hope both of you have good days.

Dot and I did our usual with breakfast at Mr Burger, aka The Cholesterol Pit.  We alternate in paying each week and we usually get the same things - hamburgers but sometimes we split a tuna melt.  And we also split a sweet roll; this morning it was a long john.

Some time ago the fire department put free smoke detectors in all of the homes in Plainfield Township.  I think they put 8 or 10 here, both up and down.  Tom got home about 2:30 last night from Uber driving and he just told me that about 4 am the one in his room went off and it was very hard to disconnect.  He said they had a 10-year battery and it was only last summer when they put them in.  My bedroom is on the first floor above Tom's bedroom and I never heard a thing.  I didn't know I slept so hard because earlier in the evening, I hardly slept at all.

Marilyne

wjoan - Now I remember way back in Senior Net, when you were living in Novato!  A couple of rivers up that way that always flood during heavy rains.  The Petaluma River overflowed it's banks this year, per usual!

wjoan

Marilyne, in all the years I lived in the Novato area there was only that one time we could not get out of Novato due to flooding.

                                        HAPPY BIRTHDAY LARRY.

You say you are having 80 deg. weather today.  I have just got to move down South. Just getting to hate our winters.

You enjoy your Birthday dinner Wednesday.  Nice that you now have a granddaughter living close. She is company for you son also

WJoan.  I remember one time I had been staying Scottsdale . Arizona. (Loved that Place).  Had to get back to Illinois fast.  It started to Rain night before and area flooded so fast that I was stuck there for 3days.  They just do not have the drainage systems like we do.  Say it is because they very seldom get bad rains.
