Marilyne, I think Shirley has been having computer problems of late, but she also goes from one computer to another, depending on what she wants to post.

I had trouble at one time with getting only half of a post from side to side.  I think when I disabled my touch pad (I use a mouse), things straightened out.  It still is not easy reading the default font if it isn't bold, but it is uniform size.

And as I wrote, don't change anything for me.  If I can, I'll read it and if I can't make it larger, I'll ignore it.

Bubble, I'm with you, for me it is not a bother to "bold" and "color" my post.

Hal, I'll go back to read the link on Uber.

Hi June - good to know that there is someone besides me, with a Mac computer!  I love mine, but it's very old and worn out, and I should get a new one. Purchased it in 2002, so that would make it 15 years old!  The only problem with a Mac, is that they keep on going forever, so you tend to hang on, even when they get slow.  That little rainbow colored ball now spins and spins before it finally opens up a website! I'm not complaining, because we've never had to spend a cent on this old machine.  My husband has a newer iMac that I think was purchased in 2010?  It's probably just like yours.

June Drabek

Marilyne, this is my fourth Mac. First was a 11SI, then in 1999 I graduated to an iMac G3. In 2003 I changed to the eMac...a great little machine, but in 2007 my son said it was time for iMac OSX, and we are growing old together. We have both slowed down, but the days have plenty of extra hours, so I am content.
As long as we are here, let's dance.

Marilyne

Mary Ann - If Tom attends the funeral of his friend, he may want to read his personal tribute to her at the service.

I'm sorry that Terry had to be hospitalized in California.  That surely did take the pleasure out of his trip to see the new baby, but it's good that he is being well cared for.  I hope he will be feeling well asap, and can enjoy some of his remaining vacation days.

Mary Ann

I think when we hear about murders we first assume guns were involved.  It turned out the son stabbed his mother, then evidently stabbed himself.  She was dead when the sheriff's deputies arrived, but he did not die until on the way to the hospital.

Tom and I both save obits and I am also saving the articles from the newspaper and TV; I do not subscribe to a newspaper but read articles on the computer.  I saved Tom's story too.  We don't know when the funeral will be.  Tom hasn't had contact with the husband (also a good friend) but he did send him an e-mail.  Tom will be there for the husband when the time comes.

It is another beautiful morning but will only get into the low 70's this afternoon.  We had a severe thunderstorm last night but we needed the rain.  I was pretty useless yesterday and guess buying the recliner was as much excitement as I could take.  I spent most of the rest of the day laying down.  Our granddaughter did fix a delicious chicken dish for us along with a vegetable and salad.  Today Pat is going to attend her craft group at Church and while she is there I will go on down for coffee at the cafe.  She did get the report on her MRI and I could understand enough of it to know that her back is not in good shape.

Mary Ann, thanks for your compliment.  It took me awhile to get used to putting in the code for the larger print and the dark font but now it is just habit.  I have that code saved in a document that I can quickly open when the computer has rebooted and I keep it open all the time for quick use.  It just goes at the beginning of the posting.  It is [ size=14pt][ b] [ color=black] without the spaces after the [ in each of the three commands which I had to put in so you can see the code.

Joan, is Candy moving back to California so she can keep the dog or just leaving it with her sister and going back to Arkansas?

Marilyne, I think you have certainly gotten your money's worth from your computer as 15 years is ancient in computer years.

Mary Ann

Larry, my method for posting isn't as simple as yours, but it is not hard, at least after I've done it for ages.  I highlight my copy, scroll up to B, click on it, go over to Change Color, scroll down to Blue, click on that, then Post.  It has gotten to be habit so no trouble at all.  I don't know what font I use, but it isn't 14 pt.  Being bold, I think it is readable, at least it is to me.

Mary Ann

Larry, Candy is staying about 2 weeks with her sister and then going back to Ark alone.  She wants to get an apt. there.

Good morning from the same, holding steady, temperature wise, Interior. We may have lows in the twenties, highers in the mid to upper teens still but you can see Spring is working hard just under the surface. The snow has that shrunken look and is less each day and the birds which overwinter are changing their winter behavior and becoming more visible. The male bears and teenagers are already out scrounging with the lone females soon to follow. It will be another month before the ones with cubs will surface. The newspapers are already warning folks on the outskirts and in the bush, to stay vigilant, keep garbage and dog or bird food locked up and a light when people are outside.

I am still steadily working down my to-do list and will be "hunting and gathering" sometime today. My doctor wants me to go to the hospital to get my nose, deviated septum fixed so my sinuses will stop working overtime, but I'm not ready so that is something else I'm putting on "Future me's list."

Farrah is having breakfast, but I asked her if she wanted to say hello, she made an affirming sound, so there you go.     Speaking of cats, Dora says Alan threw out Duchess's old cat food and bought her a new more improved version. Do you think he needs an intervention?  :smiley6600:

I did my font exactly as Larry does, even have it saved on Notebook. However, if I couldn't see it to tell when others said it was working, and now others tell me it wasn't. It became simpler to go back to default.

Joy

Good morning.

Marilyne,  the message that I see from Amy is also very tiny.  And, I don't have a Mac.   I do have a hard time reading it and usually have to skip over most of it.  I think it is strange that different computers would cause the font to be different ????

MaryAnn,  I change the font of my messages the same way you do.   Not a big deal.

I, also, appreciate your messages, Larry, and the way they show up.  Nice and big and bold.

It is a very cold and windy morning here, but the sun is shining.  Supposed to be up in the 70;s by the weekend.   Sure hope it will stay that way for a while, anyhow.

Have not gotten anything  accomplished this morning.  I do get up around 7, but I am just not a morning person, and takes me so long to get navigating. If I start to read for a while, I get so sleepy, that I have to nap for a little bit.  It doesn't take that long for me to realize that most of the day is gone.  Where to, I have no idea?  LOL

Hope everyone will have a good afternoon.

It is not the computer but the browser that causes problems with font size and style evidently. Opera browser shows it while FireFox does not. It is interesting that Jeanne Lee and Janie were adamant that my font was showing as posted while others wrote me or posted just as adamantly that it was not.

MaryAnn.  I have tried using your system for using Bold and colour. got tired of doing it. Doesn't alway work anyway.

Well I guess it worked this time.  If one could get in the habit of doing it, it would become easier.
JeanneP

I don't think you can do it if posting from the Quick Reply Box. Have to use the Reply above.

JeanneP., the lighter colors such as yellows, pinks, browns or greens are very, very hard for people to read.

Marilyne

I use the Safari browser, but my husband uses Firefox on his iMac. The font size shows up the same on both computers?

Marilyne, the issue with my using a bold and 14pt. font, for me; was that some saw it as impossibly tiny while others saw it as the same as Larry used. Since I had issues seeing it on FireFox as small/tiny and as I meant to with Opera's browser; I went back to default. It cannot be my computer if the browsers show the same post differently.

It may be my computer, but I don't understand how I would see what you list as 10pt. while you are seeing my posts as 14. Why would I see some as 14pt and not mine? I select all. I then use   [font face Arial Black][font size14]  What I have seen this past week or so is what Jeanne Lee lists as 10pt while Larry and others show the 14pt. I was used to seeing with mine. Why would my computer suddenly change only the type I see in mine? That doesn't make sense to me.

On March second, I set my FireFox browser font to 18pt. and then 24pt. The posts both looked like this On March second, I set my browser font to 18pt. and then 24pt. The posts both looked like this

For the record, I am on Firefox.

Jeanne, Patricia listed those colors that don't show up well and that yellow was awful.  I don't use the Quick Reply and don't even see it on my screen.  Your red example came through loud and clear.

Patricia, most of your posts showed up just fine, at whatever font you set them, but your March 2 example was very small.

I really don't care what fonts people use.  If I can read the post, I will, and if I can't read it, I'll bypass it.  Simple as that.

I do want to thank those who do use BOLD and color when they can.  If you can't I'll understand.

Mary Ann

For those that are using a Windows system, to make your post bold simply highlight the post and go up into the box above and click on bold, the very first box, with a bold B in it.

Marilyne

Mary Ann - I don't have Quick Reply either, and I've never had it in past.  I have no idea what it is or why it's different?  I just have plain old "Reply", which is fine with me.  It's interesting that whether we have a Mac or a PC, old or new,  our individual computers seem to have minds of their own!

CallieOK

I always use Quick Reply - but I do "Preview" my message.  That's when all the icons for various fonts/colors/actions appear.

Just curious - not criticizing:  why do so many of you use all different types of browsers?  What's the problem with just using the one that comes with your computer?

Mary Ann

Callie, I'm not even sure what browser came with my computer, possibly Internet Explorer.  I've  used Firefox for years because some years ago I either had trouble or was unhappy about something.  I've been happy with Firefox, however, I know some people don't like it.  I think Firefox is available only on PCs, not on Macs, so that would account for some difference.

Grand Haven is so quiet today.

More on Tom's friend - her son stabbed her, then apparently stabbed himself.  Her death has hit Tom hard because the couple were his good friends.  That coupled with the fact that Tom's brother, Terry, was hospitalized in California for pneumonia.  That gives him another worry because we wonder how Terry will get home; is flying good for him.  If it isn't one thing, it's two others.

Mary Ann

Marilyne

Callie -  I think the Safari browser, is only available for Apple computers, but not sure?  My iMac came with Safari recommended, and I've been using it for 15 years, with no problems.  As I mentioned, my husband uses Firefox, on his iMac.  He has Safari downloaded also, so that when I use his computer, all of my bookmarks are available. Our first Apple computer, purchased in 1996, came with Internet Explorer.

Mary Ann - I can imagine that you're all worried about Terry, being stuck out here in California with pneumonia. I think you mentioned that his son and wife live in Pasadena?  I'm wondering which hospital he is in?  I'm sure they will have definite advice, as to how soon he will be able to fly.

Mary Ann

Marilyne, I do not know which hospital Terry is in.  Tom said he will be there two more days, then go to wherever he and Jan have been staying.  Jan went out two weeks ago and Terry went to CA a week ago.  They were supposed to come back home this week.  Jan is an RN and is in charge of a Hospice unit here.  I know she won't leave Terry out there alone, but she can't stay away from her job forever.  Tom wonders if it will be OK for Terry to fly home, but I don't think driving home is the answer, either.  If driving is "it", Tom will fly out, they would rent a car and take four or five days to come home.  This is all speculation, so who knows!

Okay, about Browsers, Edge is supposed to be the "New In thing in browsers" for Microsoft and is to replace Internet Explorer. Edge is an extremely bad browser, there have been issues that Microsoft has been very slow in dealing with. It uses Bing for a search engine and the new W10, Cortana is simply Bing with a voice and a memory hog. Yahoo search and Google are so much better.

Chrome has been hacked recently and its code is easily available on the web which makes it attractive to scammers. However, Chrome, because of its features and ease of use, has the market share of the browsers, over 56% of usage with the last record. Firefox is good but it is also open source which leads to vulnerability. Opera is a nice browser. However, it doesn't have all the features of Chrome and Firefox. Browsers are like cars, different looks and features attract different folks.

I was out for a few hours this afternoon. I was supposed to be grocery shopping but instead was invited to a friend's home for gossip, lunch and a pretense at a few hands of gin rummy. The afternoon was thoroughly enjoyable and the salad she served was wonderful. It had carrots, spinach, various types of sweet peppers, banana peppers, hardboiled egg, bacon, olives and blue cheese with a ranch dressing.

One of the guests remarked after we all mentioned enjoying the salad, "You got this at Walmart, right?" the hostess said yes a little red faced. First, I thought that was a trifle mean-spirited and second, I thought what a wonderful idea, especially if you serve the salad already on the plate.

I brought some turkey breast home for Farrah, who recently decided she enjoyed tuna. I thought she would love the turkey. I put some down for her and she came over and sniffed it. She then looked up at me with that familiar expression of hers that conveyed an eye roll and the thought, "You eat this stuff?" So much for turkey!  :-\

larryhanna

Hi everyone.  It looks like it is going to be another nice day but getting only into the low 60's.  I plan on picking up medicine this morning at Walmart on my way to get my friend to take to coffee.  After I take him home I plan on going back to the church for the Wisdom group meeting.  I have a couple of chores to do in the kitchen if I have any energy left after a full morning.

I have a neighbor across the street from me whose home is under contract and the neighbors on one side of me listed their home yesterday.  I think they will probably be moving back to Texas where they have a home.  At least that is what he told me sometime ago if he decided to retire from his job as a nuclear engineer at the Savannah River Project.  They have only been here a little over a year.  I will hate to see both families leave as they are good neighbors.

I almost forgot that the college basketball playoffs continue today so know what I will be doing this afternoon and this evening.

Joan, thanks for the info on Candy.  Too bad she has had to give up her dog.

Patricia, hope your "hunting and gathering" continues to go well.  That sounds like an appropriate phrase for a person living in Alaska.  Say hello back to Farrah and tell her I appreciated her morning greeting.  Nice to see you enjoyed an afternoon out with friends.  I think your picture that you posted was the first picture of you I have seen.

Joy, glad my postings are easy for you to read.  The days do go by very quickly it seems, at least they do for me.

JeanneP, you can do the code in the Quick Reply box although you don't have access to the command that do it for you.  I always use the Quick Reply but I have the code saved and can easily copy and paste.

Callie, I have used most of the browsers at different times but really prefer the Chrome Browser.  I do use Internet Explorer for a couple of tasks but generally do not.

Mary Ann, I think all Microsoft computers come with Internet Explorer installed.  However, any browser or combination of them can be used.

Marilyne, the Safari browser works well on PCs as well as Macs.  I have used it from time to time.  Safari is Apple's browser and they do recommend it on the iPad and iPhone but they allow other browsers to be used as well.

Marilyne

Larry - I know how you feel about good neighbors moving away.  You can only hope that whoever buys the house, will be pleasant and neighborly.  We have lived in this same house for 45 years, so as you can imagine, this cul-de-sac of 15 houses has changed a lot over that long span of time.  We are the only "originals" left on this street, but there are two other old couples on the adjoining street who are still hanging in there.  Last week a neighbor woman died, who lived behind us.  She was 99 years old, and had lived in her house since the 1950's.  I didn't know her, as her house sat all alone at the top of a hill, and was only accessible by a private road.

Patricia - I enjoyed looking at the photos of you and your roommate! Love that "selfie"! :)
