I have had a Bird Clock in the Kitchen. Works by Battery. I use to change them but finely got tired of the birds chirping on the hour.  Need to take it down now or just put a battery on the side that will just show the time running.

My one daughter has a beautiful Westminster Grandfather clock which chimes beautiful every hour. Keeps me awake at night as it is so close to the spare bedroom. Just go to sleep and it chimes again.
I am content to have a Parrot that I can cover at 8pm and it never makes a sound until I uncover. No matter what time.

Junee. Glad to hear that your beautiful birds  are still coming to visit you. Are they the same ones. Have others joined them?

Kendrick was on the deck and having a ball.  Birds would fly over him and he'd lift his head and really swirl it around as the birds flew over him.  He was on the deck when the chime clock chimed and he heard that.  It kind of sounds like a bird and he came to the door as the bird clock went off.  I think it was 1 o'clock but the birds don't chirp the number of the hour.  He stayed on the deck for a long time while I sat inside.  He is inside now.

Junee, I would think if bird clocks were available in Australia that you could get one with bird sounds of Australia.  They are fun to hear and their noises are not offensive.  I started something when I mentioned my bird clock.  A fun thing to have.

Larry, I am watching the RBC golf match right now.  The trouble is later in the game they go to another match and I lose track of the players I've been watching.  I did not see the shot near the alligator.  That was an interesting story about the folded napkin.

Sandy, it's nice here too.  We did have drizzle this morning before, during and after church, but the sun is trying to shine now.  We are going to have dinner this afternoon with Annie and her boyfriend so I hope it continues to be nice.  Yesterday it was over 80 degrees, but now we have about 65 degrees.

Not that it's important, but Dot and I went OTB with a variation this morning.  Don wondered as I got into the car if Mr Burger would be open today.  They had not posted a sign as they often do so we drove there and it was closed.  We ended up at Cheers where both had Plainfield Pleasers (named for our area) which consists of eggs, potatoes and toast.  We both got hash brown potatoes only I had onion with mine, eggs but Dot's were scrambled and mine were over medium, and my toast was raisin and Dot's whole wheat - just alike only different!

HAPPY EASTER to all my cyber friends just a perfect day.

Larry, thanks for posting that lovely story.
Sahs, I have one  very spoiled cat named Taffy. When you live alone, they become your children, I do what she wants.

MaryAnn, Taffy is getting like your baby, I get up and she gets in bed and does not want me make it.  Since I am home from the hospital sometimes during the night she comes in and sleep either next to my leg, or on them.

JeanneP, my clock does not chime, when the light go off.

I am invited to my neighbors for Easter dinner, but there will be about 15 all her lovely family, but I am just as comfortable setting on my deck reading. they can not understand that, as they worry about me being alone.

I guess my bird clock has recovered because I can hear it in this room which is about 25 feet from the clock.  Kendrick is in the living area but I was unable to see him to know if he heard it.

Tom and I joined Annie, her friend and his two children.  Annie fixed a ham and bought some mashed potatoes, mac and cheese and I think something else.  We brought the green bean casserole, rolls and two pies.

The house was interesting and you could tell it is a man's house - no curtains, no carpet, little furniture.  It is a very nice house and the man has money but he doesn't want to fix it up.  He has a pool which is way at the bottom of many steps.  I am not a swimmer, but I would not even be able to go down to watch the swimmers because of the many steps.

Lindancer.

You sound a lot like me.  So use to living alone and not use to have crowds around .

My Texas family have tried now to have me join them in June for a trip to Florida.
Thing is will be 4 grown ups and about 9 at the last count of Children. ages 3 to 15.
Says the rented a house with 7 Bedrooms so I would be private when I wanted.

I will just go and visit them at home. Few at a time. They all live so close to each other.

Larry, some time backl you asked about wild flowers after all the rain we had.  Yes, we have them all over where they are not supposed to be.  LOL

larryhanna

Hi everyone.  We have a sunny morning and should see 86 degrees before the day is over.  Yesterday was a very quiet day with my main activity being watching the golf tournament from Myrtle Beach, South Carolina.  For the first time ever a man born in South Carolina won that event.  We were able to have our second dinner from the Masonic Lodge BBQ event last evening.  I have no particular plans for today.  If I feel up to it at noon I will attend my Monday noon meeting.

Sandy, everyone must have had the same idea you did concerning doing your laundry.  Glad you enjoyed a beautiful Easter Day.

JeanneP, I had forgotten about your parrot as you hadn't mentioned it for sometime.  Pat's Westminster Grandfather clock is just outside our bedroom and that could be a problem during the night.  In the house we moved from it was located away from the bedroom so wasn't a problem.

Mary Ann, was Kendrick enjoying the warm sun while he was on the deck?  I watched some of that golf tourney on the Golf Channel and then at 3 pm they switched it to CBS coverage.  Interesting how each of us prefers our eggs, potato's and toast differently.  I haven't had raisin toast in a really long time but do like it especially if it has cinnamon in it.

deAngel, I think our cats soon find a way to get us trained to do what they want.  Glad you have Taffy for companionship. Hope your neighbor brought you an Easter dinner plate.

Joan, those flower seeds are there just waiting for the moisture.  I bet the wild flowers were beautiful.

Good morning, early for me yesterday was such a beautiful day and quite warm. Today is also nice, a little cloudy, not as warm as yesterday, but still nice.

Larry, I just did not feel like going to dinner at my neighbors, so they brought it over to me. I have enough for a couple of days. 4 different  . vegies. then a dish of lamb and potatoes, 4 slices of ham, and to top that a slice of salmon. Lemon meringue pie. :eat:

I hope Patricia is OK, as she has not posted in a few days.

Yes, it's A Place in the Sun, and we still have one cat you may remember, MarilynE: Cree is 15 now, and as bony as you describe Winnie. She gives napping lessons to the other cats.

We wouldn't have so many if the people here didn't abandon them to sink or swim. Cree was rescued from a neighbor's shed where 3 otherwise decent huskies were hungering loudly for her. We were early in the business, so we set the carrier down in our yard and opened it, thinking she'd scoot off home. She lay down and has been here ever since.
There are only two ways to live your life. One is as though nothing is a miracle. The other is as though everything is a miracle.

Mary Ann

Sasha, Kendrick would run Cree a close second for sleeping.  It isn't his fault; he has no one to play with and I don't take the time because I can't get down to play with him.  He's nearly four so too young to sleep as much as he does.  He's a real good cat and I tell him so often; I hope he understands!  I do have him trained in a couple of things:  He knows what NO! means and when he helps me make my bed, he knows he should get on the terry towel to keep out of my way.  He has me trained in other ways.

Larry, I didn't get to watch much golf yesterday and I don't know who won so I'll go to Sports to find out.  I can't recall who is from SC although I've heard, I just don't remember.

Joan, I saw something on TV recently where excess rain had caused the desert flowers to bloom, flowers everywhere and beautiful.

Larry, Kendrick is more willing to go on the deck now but he keeps looking at the door or screen to make sure I'm near.  He wriggles around, then settles down by the railing and stalks the birds if he sees any.

My lunch today was leftovers we brought home from our Easter dinner.  I had a ham sandwich and a piece of pumpkin pie.  I had apple pie yesterday while at dinner.  There is more of each.

Mary Ann

FlaJean

Larry, yes we are still in Florida.  Our daughter was worried about us being 6 hours away as we are both in our 80s, so we sold our house and bought one a few blocks from her.  We are now living in the Florida Panhandle in a little town called Niceville, and we love it here.

Marilyne

Sasha - Good to hear that you're still doing, A Place In the Sun! Unfortunately, rescuing cats or dogs is a sad and never ending situation.  Seems that the more crowded and urban the area, the more people move on and leave their pets behind. I just don't understand how they can do it, but it happens constantly here too.  Some people have no conscience whatsoever! :(

I remember when you were in the early stages of setting up your cat sanctuary, but I don't specifically remember Cree?  It's great that she was rescued, and has had a good, long life!

wjoan

Mary Ann,  they are beautiful and yes all over.

Hi everyone pn an overcast morning.  We do have a 60% chance of rain this afternoon around 2 pm, when I have to drive for about 30 minutes to get to a new doctor's office.  I am seeing a dermatologist just for a check up since I have had carcinoma in the past.  I plan to eat an early lunch and then rest for 90 minutes or so before leaving. I did not attend my meeting yesterday as had to make a trip to the church to drop off the peanut butter and jelly to Pat's Circle meeting.  Then I stopped at Aldi's for a few items.  Pat had planned to go to Aldi's but just was in a lot of discomfort.  By the time I got home I was ready to rest for awhile.

This morning got off to a rocky, although as I think of it now a rather humorous one.  However, I didn't feel that way when it was happening.  I was fixing Pat's breakfast and got the water started for the coffee, including putting the coffee pod in the coffee maker.  When the lights went on indicating it was ready I pushed the button and continued to make Pat's breakfast.  When I went to get the coffee I discovered I had not put a cup under the spout so had coffee all over the counter.  So I cleaned up the mess and started the water for an actual cup of coffee.  When I went to get it I saw I had a nice cup of hot water as had forgotten to put the coffee pod in the maker.  The third time was the charm and Pat actually had a cup of coffee.  Fortunately I didn't burn her scrambled eggs.  In the scheme of things this really wasn't important at all just aggravating at the time.

deAngel, was nice to read that your neighbor saw to it that you had a nice Easter dinner.  By staying home you could rest as you needed to.  Being around a lot of people can be tiring. I also am concerned that Patricia hasn't posted as she is always very faithful to post.

Chia, thanks for the link for the quiz.  I might do alright on that one.

Sasha, Cree obviously could recognize people who loved cats and would take good care of her.

Mary Ann, I don't think any cat needs lessons in sleeping as they spend a large part of their day sleeping.  I just looked it up and according to petmd.com cats sleep an average of 15 hours a day and can sleep up to twenty hours in a twenty-four hour period.  Cats are most active between dusk and dawn. The golfer was Wesley Byran.  He was born in South Carolina and graduated from the University of South Carolina.  He is 27 years old and this was his first PGA Tour win.

FlaJean, thanks for your info on where you live.  A couple from our Sunday School class moved to Niceville last year to be close to family.  You were wise to make the move although, based on our own experience, I know moving is really tough when we are older.

Marilyne, I am with you on not understanding how people can just abandon and leave their pets to fend for themselves.

Joan, it is interesting that wild flower seeds can remain dormat and then bloom when there is plenty of water.  I am glad you are enjoying them.

Larry an FlaJean, when my son and DIL return to the US after being stationed in Germany and then Turkey, They bought a house in the Bluewater Bay section of Niceville. At the time they were both stationed on Eglin AFB. Dennis was in the Vietnam War and also Golf. He was a Major when he died playing racket ball on the base.

Linedancer, it's a small world.  We also live in the Bluewater Bay Area which is just outside the city limits.  We love it here.  I remember when you wrote about your grandson being ill.  I hope he is doing ok now.

Mary Ann

The bird clock sounded off and I think it was a robin.  At 3 pm it should have been a blue jay.  I’ll have to see if I can advance the sound.  If not, it will stay as is.

We had our Wednesday luncheon today but we probably will go back to Wednesday.  Jan has so much on her plate with both parents with Alzheimer’s and Terry not being well.  They live in the lower level with Jan’s folks having the upper level.  Terry was not feeling well enough to come up the stairs to join us and Jan’s father didn’t feel well either, so did not join us.  Jan’s mother is on the same level as her father as far as Alzheimer’s goes, but she is more alert.  She sat with us at the table.  Jan has been volunteering for Hospice as well as working for them and she is giving up her volunteer work and working hours the others might be asleep.  A nephew comes in to be with his grandparents at times so she does have some help.  It’s hard being the only breadwinner with three ill people.  We are going to have our weekly luncheons at Jan’s to make it easier on her.  We thought Tuesday might be better because Dot would have no conflicts on Tuesday but Tom said Tuesday is not a good day for him, so he may call Jan to make it Wednesday.  We had two kinds of pizza today.

It's a lovely day today, I think the temperature is 70 degrees, or nearly so.

Mary Ann

Marilyne

Mary Ann - Jan must be a special person, to do all the care taking for her family members, as well as holding down a job. she has a lot of responsibility on her shoulders.  Do Terry and Jan have adult children who could occasionally help out?  I remember they have the son who lives in California, but that's too far away for him to be available to ever step in if needed. Good that she has the one nephew.

Yesterday I had an echocardiogram.  I have no padding over/around my rib cage, so it was uncomfortable with the technician pressing on those prominent ribs!  Certainly not great pain, but enough that I was glad when it was over.  I won't get the results until next Monday.

FlaJean

I'm very happy with my bird clock.  You have to set it in a particular order so you get the correct bird call on the correct hour.  It doesn't sound in the dark so no problem being bothered when sleeping.  My husband is very keen on bird calls, but I'm not to good in telling one bird from another.  I have to check the list but not sure I'll remember. ☺️

Chia

So glad to see the enjoyment those are having with their bird clocks..I already have spoken about the surprise in hearing them chirp again because I put a battery in wrong..
My Audobon birds are: House Wren, Canadian Goose, Downy Woodpecker, Northern Cardinal, Black Capped Chickadee, Northern Mockingbird, Great Horned Owl, American Robin, Song Sparrow, Belted Kingfisher, Titered Titmouse, Baltimore Oriole. I do recognize the owl's hoot which is a clue for having the right bird at its correct hour

Maybe now I will start up mine again. Just needs new batteries. Seems like I don't hear birds chirping outdoors anymore. Our cardinals have gone . No butterflies. Crickets and even raccoons, still way to many geese because of all the new home areas and shopping areas putting in lakes.
.they stop the traffic. Just take time crossing the roads.
JeanneP

Mary Ann

Marilyne, Jan is a special person.  I think I never appreciated her before the last few years but she has been the one to help me sort things in my storage room and she has taken things to Goodwill for me.  She likes to be organized and has suggested things for me to organize.  She and Terry have a daughter who lives in Indianapolis, as well as the son who lives in South Pasadena CA.  Terry has not been well for many years following shock treatment that did not work and the plane trips to CA and back did not help him.  His days are numbered but I don't know the numbers, maybe less than two years.

Jean, I'm glad you are enjoying the bird clock.  Eventually, you won't notice the chirps every hour.  When I put the batteries in my clock, I could not get the button to set the hours but now the birds are chirping, maybe I can reset it.  As it is, it is about an hour off.  The one bird that I recognize immediately is the mourning dove and that should be 7 o'clock, however, it is either at six or eight.  To me, it doesn't matter.

Chia, I have some of the birds on your clock.  I'm not near my clock now so I can't tell you what they are.  I know there is a House Finch, Robin, Blue Jay, Cardinal, Chickadee besides the Mourning Dove, oh, a nuthatch.  I really enjoy hearing the different birds.

Jeanne, put some batteries in your clock and join the club.  We do have house finches, song sparrows, red-winged blackbirds, crows, occasional blue jays and cardinals.  We used to have raccoons, but I'd just as soon they not return.  We recently trapped some muskrats that undermine our pond banks.  I think they relocated them.  Spring and fall we have the Canada geese in droves; so many.

My neighbor has started getting rid of the dead leaves around my place.  She's so nice to do that for me because I can't, nor can Tom.  The lawn guys haven't started yet.

Mary Ann

larryhanna

Hi everyone on an overcast day here in South Carolina.  We are suppose to get up to 80 degrees this afternoon.  Yesterday afternoon we had a series of very nice rain showers.  We needed the rain.

I did see the dermatologist yesterday and all was fine.  He did freeze off a little growth on my temple simply because it bothered me.  Today should be a pretty laid back day.  Our granddaughter arrived a few minutes ago and she and Pat are headed to Costco.  Pat wants to get there when they open at 10 am so she can get a riding cart to get around in the big store.  We have our Wednesday night dinner at church tonight.

deAngel, I didn't realize that Niceville was near Elgin AFB.  Was your son planning on a full military career?

Mary Ann, Jan certainly has her hands full dealing with both parents having Alzheimers.  I hope she realizes she also need to take care of herself as it sounds like she pushes herself a lot.  Will you be going to Jan's and Terry's home for the weekly eating together? I didn't realize that Terry's days here on earth may be fairly short.

Marilyne, not having padding around my rib cage certainly hasn't been a problem in having echocardiograms done.  However, can understand why it would be uncomfortable as they do have to press hard. It sounds like you have heart problems also.

FlaJean, I also can't tell one bird call from another.  Maybe getting the bird clock would help me learn some of the calls.

Chia, is there a separate battery for the bird chirps?

JeanneP, I think all your birds have come to South Carolina as we have many birds around here and some of them chirp very loudly.  There are a lot of trees in this area.  Are the lakes being built retention ponds?

Mary Ann

#4735
Larry, Jan does have her plate full and I think she has begun to realize it.  She has been a volunteer at Hospice, in addition to her work at Hospice, and I think she is going to give up the volunteer work.  For the future, I think our Wednesday get-togethers will be at Terry and Jan's so she does not have to leave her folks alone, or Terry, too.  I did not see Terry yesterday as he stayed in the lower level and I don't do stairs well; I can get down OK, but coming up is not good.

We had an interesting early morning today.  Dot had cataract surgery and since her family was unavailable, Tom offered to take her.  I went along to stay with her as someone had to be there.  We left about 6:30 am, got there before 7 am.  We really went to the wrong door and ended up walking a long hall before getting to the elevator.  Dot checked in and eventually they took her in for some preliminary work.  I went to where she was a few minutes later.  When she went in for surgery, I went back to the waiting room.  When they were finished with surgery, I went in to sit with her until she was released.  We were home by 9 am, so we were gone 2 1/2 hours and that included probably half an hour travel total.  Dot's SIL  will take her for a checkup tomorrow as he has the day off.  Next week her daughter will take her for the final checkup.  Dot will have the second eye done in three weeks and her family will see that she gets there and back.  Norm and I had the same surgery in 1999 and I think it took a bit longer, but procedures have changed since that time.

Our temperature was 61 when I got up at 5:30 and is 64 now and that may be as high as it gets.  It really is a nice day so far.

We have so many of the Cleveland (?) pears in blossom right now.  Loads of businesses and homes have them and they are just beautiful.  I'm not sure they are Cleveland pears as I know there is another variety, but whatever, they are beautiful.

Yesterday I heard a noise outside my door so investigated.  My neighbor who has done a lot with my area under my kitchen window was getting leaves and dry stuff out of my garden.  I cannot do anything like that again, nor can Tom, so I very much appreciate her help.

Larry, I am not Chia, but my bird clock has three AA batteries.  I am not sure which is which, but there is a single battery that I imagine handles the clock mechanism and two to take care of the bird chirps.

We are up to 40 degrees at 8 a.m/.  Supposed to be in the upper 60's today.

Larry, loved the video.  :)  Thanks

Larry, I liked it too.

Joan, we are in the high 60s now.  It really is very nice out; even the cat likes to go out on the deck.
