We had a nice Easter weekend and an easy drive home.  Today we have to go to Iowa City for Ray's dental appt at the U of Ia Dental School.  At least it's sunny and nice.  Rain to come tomorrow and Wednesday!!

Quack! Quack!!

SCFSue

Hi Buddies.  I survived the colonoscopy, but he found more polyps, so have to go back another time.  He came in to talk to me after the surgery and told me that.  He said he's having the polyps checked in the lab to see if there's nothing else there and will let me know if I need to come back if that is the case.

Otherwise, an uneventful day.  When Tim brought me home, I fixed my lunch and ate it, then laid down on my bed and finished the book I have been reading for a few days--an Historical novel that a friend of a friend wrote about Spain in about 364 A.D.--somewhat interesting but also somewhat tedious.  It took me longer than usual because of the writing style.

Not much else to report here this evening.  I hope all are well and have had a nice day.
Sue

maryz

Sue, glad the colonoscopy is over.  And I hope all is okay and you don't have to have anything else for a while.

jane, glad you're home safely and had a good weekend.  I wish we were getting some of your rain.  We're not in "extreme drought" more, but are already below normal for this year, added to the deficit from last year.  They've been predicting rain here all day, but there's not been a drop here at my place.

Marilyn, glad your service went well.

Nothing much new around here.  I didn't play duplicate tonight.  My usual Monday partner has out-of-town company and the temporary partner had to cancel, too.  I didn't want to go without a partner, so I'm taking a night off.  I sat outside (under my new umbrella) for a little while after supper this evening.  It was lovely.  I even figured out how to get some music on my phone, and enjoyed some tunes from the original casts of old movie musicals.

Sleep well, Buddies!

jane

Sue...glad the colonoscopy is over.

The rains we were told to expect haven't materialized yet and maybe won't, though they are on the radar to the west of us. Tomorrow to be more rain.

Tomorrow morning the carpenter is to be here to replace our countertop.  It'll be good to have that done. Once I decided on what I wanted, it's gone quite quickly.  Now to get the plumber here to install the new faucet and hook up the sink.   Landscapers were here this morning and put down the fresh mulch and check the plants they put in last year.  So, that's finished, too.

I'm up to my ears in laundry and I need to clean out some kitchen drawers, and that'll be it for today.

Am still trying to get Springcieaning started. Weather so good that I cant stay. Home. Got the whole place torn up. I use a lot of throw rugs everywhere  and have 2 big leaf bags of them to take to. The laundry. They have great big washers and dryers.  I have them as far as my car and think I will go tonight. Then tomorrow take all the BD spreads. Get the carpet cleaners in.

Sue. Glad you got your Colon over with. Sorry they found some more but hope you don't have to have any thing done

I have been going back and forth between 2 doctors one checks my blood as he has done for years and has me on a mild blood presuree med. all has been O.k but the other one is my female dr. For female checks. She wanted to change his prescription I tried hers for 2 weeks . What a. Mess they did and I told him she said my sodium to low. He said forget her and get back on mine . I did and all well again. I tod her I had been to lab and gotten another blood test Monday .her nurse called today and said sodium gone up much better now so just keep on my old ones?

those are the only pres. I take and. From now on stop listening to 2 different doctors. None seem to agree. Will just stick with what to my yearly full physic. Comes up with and stay off the new drugs that come out. Dr. Don't seem to research them.

Today was a lovely spring day of rain.  The rain this morning was a slow "farmer" rain - pretty much constant, but very light.  And, by suppertime, there was an inch of water in my rain gauge.  Since dark, there have been several hard rain showers with accompanying lightning and thunder.

The drought has been so long and prolonged, I can only paraphrase
Rain, Rain - Come again!

GinnyAnn

Hi Buddies. Ray and I had a quiet Easter. We used to have very busy holidays. Now that my Mom and Ray's parents and our Doug have passed it is just us  :'(  John is not religious.  We are getting together on Sunday. I'm looking forward to seeing our Granddaughter  :)  :smitten:

Just looked at the time so must get to bed.

maryz

Always good to hear from you, Ginny Ann.  Have fun with your granddaughter.  How old is she?

I woke up really early this morning  >:( , but decided to just get up and place a pick-up order from Walmart.  If you know what you want, this is a great way to get stuff without having to walk through the entire huge store.  I'll go pick up my order at 4 this afternoon.

Happy Hump Day, Buddies!

GinnyAnn....good to see you here posting!

Maryz....calling in an order and just picking it up sounds ideal.

Our countertop/sink is being installed today.  Countertop has been delivered and sitting in the garage, carpenter will be back about noon when his "helper" is back and they'll install this afternoon.  Plumber has been here and disconnected and removed the sink, and he'll be back tomorrow to hook up the new one.  I hope it goes as smoothly as this all sounds.  This is it in the garage...it's really more browns and caramels than the gray that shows in the picture. The sink is quartz and bisque.  http://i88.photobucket.com/albums/k175/janeiowa/jane/REMODELING/kitchencounter_zpsfyen92qp.jpg

Ray will be here, so I'm going to go play bridge while the carpenters are busy in the kitchen.  Looks like we'll be eating out tonight.   :D

jane

maryz

jane, the countertop looks great.  I hope the installation goes smoothly.  I know you'll enjoy it.  The Walmart order is placed online - so even easier than calling.

There was another inch of rain in my gauge from the "showers" last night.   I got out to swimming and coffee.  Then went to the garden center and got a few bedding plants for my two small planters that hang off my deck railings.  I got all green/variegated stuff (no flowers) - coleus, ornamental peppers, sweet potato vines (2 varieties), dusty miller, and licorice (2 varieties - a new plant to me).  I've put them in, and we'll see how they do.

I see I have missed posting for 1 or maybe 2 days. All is very wet here on the southern Oregon Coast, well in most of Oregon. Freckles and I had a Therapy dog visit this morning and I go back to my new chiro this afternoon.

This new chirp has all kind of tools to do the adjusting without  twisting my body. I can't do the twisting because I tense up and the adjustment just doesn't work for me. So after he adjusted me I got a Laser treatment on my shoulder,  left hand and right foot. I have some tendonitis in my shoulder and it clicks a lot. I really like this new Chiro.

It is so good to see you posting Ginnyann.

One of my favourite things to do is going to the grocery store. At least it was before they started not having may lanes with checkers on and so now you stand in line for ages.  Most probably would not spend so much if I made a list and ordered on line. I like to use the butcher shop and the fish and so like to check things out.

Jane I like your counter top. My daugher had her kitchen done and use the exact same. Looks nice.  I have had the Butcher block for so many years. Same with bathrooms but the cabinets will be getting changed in there soon.  Still have so much avocado colour. They tell me that green is coming back. Was the main colour in the 60s.
I have had 7 Solicited calls on my home phone today. 2 this past 2 days on my mobile.  They don't seem to be able to take care of that problem.

I have one saying that I have stayed at one of their resorts in the past. usually hang up but just kept it running yesterday. Then said Yes, I did and I had Bed bugs when I came home. So I am going to post about it on Facebook. Maybe this will get rid of them.
JeanneP

maryz

Jeanne, I had to laugh at your loving to go to the grocery store. I'd just as soon hit my thumb with a hammer - always have hated it.   :2funny:

Re the robo/solicitation calls.  I don't answer the phone any more if I don't see a name I know or recognize the number.  I let it go to the answering machine.  Usually they don't leave a message.  One thing I've heard is never to say the word "yes" when you get one of these.  Supposedly your voice will be recorded saying "yes", and that can be used to say you agreed to buy something.  I never talk to them at all.  So annoying!  :tickedoff:

Hi, Marilyn, I wish you could share some of your rain over here.  We're finally up to "normal" rainfall for the year here, but still carry the large deficit from last year.

Friends: Just yesterday I followed the advice of "Hints of Heloise" and
called the National Do Not Call Registry through the Federal Trade Commission number (1-888-382-1222) to register my phone #. I will see
if that works?????
JOY

maryz

Good luck, Joy - let us know if it works for you.  I've done that, but I still get the calls.  Like I said, I've gotten to where I just don't answer if I don't recognize the name or number of the caller.
"When someone you love dies, you never quite get over it.  You just learn how to go on without them. But always keep them safely tucked in your heart."

I've been on the list for years.  Reputable companies apparently obey it....the scammers don't, and most of these robocalls are scammers.  It's been on the news a lot this week....the arrest in India of a kingpin who scammed people for millions, pretending to be the IRS, etc.

Kitchen is finished...plumber came this morning and installed the new gooseneck faucet and fixed the lines in the basement so the kitchen sink water goes through the filter there, and we, hopefully, won't need a second filtered water faucet.

The carpenter is working upstairs to fix the leak from when the chimney was taken off the roof, and the guy didn't get the shingles all patched up right.

It was supposed to be a bright and sunny day today, but it's not...gray and gloomy.  I want to go get some shelving material and redo the drawer under the sink, etc.

Jane

JeanneP

Jane. Kitchen all finished. sound so good.  Now you will have no excuse for not cooking again.
That doesn't change my daughter. She has changed hers twice in 4 years. All appliances everything get changed.  Never used.  The whole house looks like never lived in since kids left 25 years ago.  Always working on changing things.  LIkes to be gone all the time.  Husband use to it by now. Would drive me crazy. She has that COD (compulsive Order disease ). 0r whatever they call it. I realize now that she was that way as a child.  Opposite from her younger sister.

Joy. I have called that number many time. Like Jane says it works on normal businesses but not on the spammers and solicitors.
JeanneP

jane

I was never into change for change....trends come and go and I stay with what I have.  I've only changed appliances when they no longer work.  I've heard there are women who change their living and family room, dining room stuff every two years, and I worked with a woman who rotated out all her clothes on a two year cycle.  I never have had the $$$ to spend that way.

Hi Gals, have a minute to post. My friend from Fla is still here and will leave tomorrow. We just finished our reunion project which is 5 poster boards of clipart of occupations and the names of all the classmates who worked in those areas. It is quite colorful and I think people will like them.  I did all the clipart and printing and lists, etc, while Judy did all the cutting and pasting which I can't do with my tremor.  It worked well.

Jane, your countertop/sink are lovely. I hope that everything is all finished and cleaned up and ready for you to enjoy now.

Mary, I think you got more rain than we did. We got some light rain off and on all yesterday and the night before but I don't know how much. The tube on my rain gauge broke. We still in a moderate drought too.  Your plants sound nice.

Had our first hummer come yesterday several times.  Yea!

Jeanne, you sound like you're running on high getting all your cleaning done.  Glad you got your meds straightened out.

Ginny Ann, good to see you post. Our Easter was quiet also--church and dinner out.  I know you will enjoy spending time with John and your granddaughter.  She must be getting big by now.

Hi Marilyn.  I'll take some of your rain too!

John got a horrible cold at the tournament and may come home tonight or tomorrow.

Judy and I are going out to eat tonight to celebrate the finish of our project.   Sharon

Hi everyone,, Freckles and I are going to the Hospital to visit today there will be 6 teams of us we go 2 teams per floor.

Rain has stopped for a little while, more is expected though

Hi Buddies, today was my bridge day out at 12:30.  Ethel picked me up about 12:15 and Olyne and Bonney were already there and the rest parked behind us.  Olyne brought Sara to sub for Peggy who is out of town.  I enjoyed being with the "gals" and had a few good hands and more than a few not so good, but it was fun anyway.

Tim came by this morning to see how I'm feeling and we chatted a bit as I was already dressed and ready to go to bridge.  He also set my thermostat on spring/summer mode.  Tomorrow I need to call Dr. Adkin's office to see what the scoop is on the 2 polyps he removed on Monday.  I'll do that after I go to Kroger.  A Village Friends volunteer who I have never met has called and will pick me up about 9:30.  My regular volunteer must still be visiting her Grandmother in Germany.

Last night I had a red mark from my left wrist to my elbow.  This morning it had almost disappeared but now I have a large reddish brown spot right about the place where the large red mark was.  Strange!  I may have to call Dr. A.'s office and see if his nurse has a clue about what has happened.  I don't recall bumping my arm on anything.

GinnyAnn, I'm glad you were able to visit with John's family.  How old is your granddaughter now?

Jane, your new sink looks great.  I know you must be pleased with the craftsman ship!

I need to go hunt up something to eat for supper as it is almost news time.  We had snacks and a piece of lemon pie at bridge and I'm not very hungry--so it'll probably be fruit!

Have a nice evening, Buddies.

Hi buddies...don't know if I posted since Easter...was with family and it was fun to watch kiddos..I signed up for the "do not call" list...doesn't stop them...I just don't answer unless I recognize the number..then I place that number on reject list...I heard someone say...go ahead and answer...just say....it's done..but there's blood everywhere...and hang up.....lol...don't know if that would work or not...but it's funny....Ginny..good to read your post..Sharon..I have a few hummers again..now that the bees moved on...I like to feed bluebirds..but the dove take over..Marlyin..you are a blessing to many with your therapy dog visits..Jane..I love your counter top..I don't replace anything unless I have to..Jeanne. I don't like to shop like I used to...but then I'm 40 miles from Walmart or big stores..Sue..hope the polys are nothing serious...at least you are rid of them...Hi Mary Z....it's very warm here and we need rain...guess I've yanked long enough....Darlene

I am getting now place fast on the Spring Cleaning. Just can't get in the mood. Not checked around for cleaners to do my walls and floors. Called the Carpet cleaners.  Fact all the throw rug riding around in my car
I now feel good. I think the drugs those two doctors gave me really messed me up. No more swelling. Sodium and Chloride normal after I got off the meds. and today I got the 6 month check up Carotid
Arteries.  Will talk to them on that Tuesday and then I hope that is it for awhile.  Never to try a drug again.
I then left my car on Clinic parking lot and walked around the city.  So nice out today.
The Christie Marathon is on this weekend so will stay away from the area.  We now have 28000 entered in it. Getting big. Lots from other countries now. for the past 4 years. 4 runners from one of the African areas (Kenya I believe) take the 1st and 2nd places.  they are all entered in the Saturday race.  Same ones who run the Boston race the other day.  Again the winners. they say that a US person not won since the 1980s.  Those people can really run.

Evening, All....end of a cold, dreary day.

I'm tired tonight, but the work is all done, and only some more cleanup upstairs where he had to replace some drywall in the ceiling and replaster it.  We'll get to it this weekend.  It's such a relief to have these things done.

I will need to get someone to paint the upstairs front room, but I'm not in a rush.  I'm sure they're all busy, so I'll get on a list and wait.

Tomorrow we're having lunch with Texas friends from the Quad cities.  These are the friends who had to leave early because of his health.

Jane

SCFSue

Hi Buddies.  This morning a new to me volunteer took me to Kroger.  I didn't have to get much, but forgot to get another box of oatmeal as I'd planned to make my oatmeal cookies tomorrow, so I'll have to get Bonney to let me run into the Tiger Town Kroger and pick a box up oatmeal so I can make the cookies on Sunday after church.  We're going to Tiger Town for pizza tomorrow.

I'm sending some to Ard and Dave's house with Tim on Monday and taking the rest to my Tuesday bridge club.  They are still having children, nephews and nieces, and others from Ohio and Alaska so that all may visit with Dave.  He is so frail, but enjoying the visits.

I've just turned on the TV thinking I'd watch an old Castle, but I hear my bed and a book calling my name, so I'm off for a nap!

Jane, I hope you've caught up on your rest, too.

Have a nice day, Buddies.

We worked this morning to clean the upstairs of drywall and plaster dust...ugh!!  What a mess that stuff makes.  But, we made good headway, and will finish up tomorrow.

We met our Texas/Iowa friends for lunch in Dbq and he's so much better.  He's taking something from the doc for his memory and it's helping, and I think the internist may have figured out his health problem.  The gastro has found nothing and is sending him on to the Univ. Hospitals in June.  Internist thinks that the fact he's been a type 1 diabetic and on insulin for 56 years has caused his pancreatis (sp?) to shut down and so he's not getting the enzymes he needs to digest his food.  He's given him some meds and Joan says it's helped a lot so far...he's finally having an appetite, has stop losing weight and is functioning so much better.

Off for dinner out with other friends tonight....nothing like eating out twice in one day!! ::)

JeanneP

We have lost our beautiful weather for a few days. No it the mood to go out today. Would be hard to get around town with the Marathon being run today and tomorrow.  They put barricade on a lot of the street. This make the bus service use some of the other side street.  It has stopped raining and so will be cooler for the runners.  Over 27000 so fill the streets.  The 8 thousand running tonight in the 5K  will be busy. Then tomorrow the 10K and then the big one.  I think my Granddaughter is running the half Marathon in New York tomorrow.

I have been reading more this week. One thing I read was the Book. or Epilogue as Robert James Waller calls it.  It is called. ( A thousand country roads) I never knew he had written it. It is the follow up after his book. The Bridges of Madison County.  How every one loved that book.  So I also got the DVD of Bridges and watched it in order to catch up and remember.  All should read this 2nd book if you haven't.  As usual it brings a few tears. I am now reading his. "Slow Waltz at Ceder Bend"  I tend to go back to some of the Older writers at times.

jane, glad your friend is doing so much better - and had a doc who was willing and able to search for a less-than-obvious solution.

Sue, I hate it when I go to the store, and then find I've forgotten one of the main things I went for.  :tickedoff:

Marilyn, is it still raining out there - or have you started to grow webbed feet?  ;D

Sharon, glad you got your project done for the reunion.  I hope John is home and recovering.  Tough to get sick when you're not at home.

Hi Jeanne, you snuck in while I was writing.

Nothing much going on around here.  I played duplicate this afternoon, and we came in next-to-last.  The gal I play with on Friday is really not very good.   Like a lot of players, she doesn't really understand playing defense, and I seldom know what she means with her bidding.  Oh, well, I'm certainly not perfect, and hate to criticize.  We'll keep on.  While we were there this afternoon, we had a really hard rain shower - and got about 3/4" of rain in my gauge in about half-an-hour.  I'm going to a birthday open house for a friend tomorrow evening, but that's all for my exciting weekend.

Hope y'all have a good weekend!

Sunny Saturday morning here in rural Iowa.  The farmers, of course, are busy planting...oats are in and corn is ready since the soil temps are high enough...depends of how soggy the fields are at any given point.

So, that's the Agricultural Report for this morning!!   :2funny:

I've moped up the rooms upstairs with my wet swiffer to get all the drywall and plaster dust off the hardwood floors.  Dusting alone just doesn't get that awful fine white dust up.  So, that's finished, the bed is changed, and I have a pretty easy day ahead...the ever present laundry, of course, and fill the bird feeders.

I'm happy to hear the hummers are in the Carolinas.  It'll be a few weeks, I suppose until they make it this far north.  I do want to get my goldfinch feeder out. They should be appearing soon.
