Oldiesmann: Finally got the AmazonBot situation under control. I basically changed some server settings to tell AmazonBot that it's not allowed to access anything on the site. That should fix the speed issues we've been experiencing lately

Almost forgot....

My Dr. visit today was to the chiropractor to get all the kinks worked out from having to wear that clunky shoe for 2 months.  I feel wonderful!  Dr. Debra is an "Applied Kinesiologist".  They do not crack bones but the get great results.  She's worth every penny of what she charges but I got a surprise.  When she was finished, she said I have directions to do the following...and she began to sing HAPPY BIRTHDAY!  And it was to "dear mom".  My daughter Christy who used to work for her and has remained friends, paid for my visit for my birthday.  Isn't that great?

And yes, HAL I did get some bargains at the Amish Store and you really would like it!

Jane, I'm so glad your day went so well. You deserve it, and what a lovely gift from your thoughtful daughter.

I had a really good lunch today, a cup of bean soup, a nice tossed salad and a plate of Turkey salad, a glass of tomato juice and a cup of coffee. Home to a book and an hours nap. Changed into a soft knit maxi dress, and couldn't be happier.

Called my Darling Dori to see how Gary made out with his Colonoscopy..turned out they removed two polyps and he was sleeping peacefully at home. It feels so strange to have one of our children having adult problems...and we are not there for them. So I am even more grateful for my wonderful Dori daughter.

Janie--The way you use Amazon Prime suits your needs.  I had a similar car experience years ago.  I worked and never spent my pay.  We lived on what Ray made.  I, too, was about 50.   I test drove a car, liked it and told the old man salesperson I'd buy it.  He said we'll have to have you and your husband's financial info.  I asked, not so nicely, who said anything about my husband buying the car.  He told me some malarky about married people having to furnish that info for both husband and wife.  I stood up, said "Grow up you ---, you just lost a cash sale and I left and bought a Buick.  GREAT that you feel so good after the chiropractor and terrific that your  daughter paid for the visit.

Hi halkel.

June--You had a good lunch.  Glad Gary is OK after the procedure and that he has Dori to care for him.

Hi Larry
A bit late replying as it has been a busy day, plus a nap late afternoon.

The TV I have is like most televisions, remote control.

But as I have said, I don't watch that much television now.

New nearly time here to fill in my Income tax.

Just found that as well as the £2,900 extra personal allowance I receive because of a disability, I get an extra £1,000 personal allowance for being over sixty five years of age or retirement age, so even better news.

Do you know if these extra personal allowance are an entitlement in America?

I don't think they are an entitlement in the UK, unless a UK member can advise me they are or they do not apply in the UK.

I have to say I've always been treated nice by car people.  I admit when I've bought cars, it was either from Norm or I had him with me (last car), but when having the car serviced, Norm was not where I had the car serviced and they never talked down to me.  At the last dealership, they treated me very well and also Tom when he took my car in for service.  As a result when Tom takes his new-to-him Camry for service, it will be to the Chevy dealer who treated us so nice.

Sandy, you go girl, work them over good and the lower prices will follow.
The competition is so intense they will bend over with kindness .
JUNE hope your package arrives ----which I am sure it will  there is just a glitch in the system with help now days :)
I use Amazon very little but with no issues.

I had a very quiet afternoon, read and dozed..read and dozed some more and completely forgot about my balance and mobility class. Darn ! I need that action. Balance is not good today, and nearly tumbled a little while ago..thankfully there was a chair nearby. I think I had better start using my cart or cane more in the apartment. I don't want to, but it seems the body wants me to.

Have a great evening dear hearts, and a happy tomorrow. Sleep sweet, God is watching over you, and I love you all. Hugs and Prayers. June

I am still trying to recover and catch up from my trip to MO last week.  The drive back with wind so strong & changing from south to north & back again, kept me on edge the entire way.  Had a dumb driver that was in the passing lane, stayed right on my rear without trying to pass.  It was a struggle to keep my big elephant between MY lines, if any of you have driven in flat land winds, know what happens when you pass a line of trees or anything that stops the wind... and how it can whip a vehicle from steering into the wind to swinging into another lane of off the side.  Kept waiting for the driver on my tail to realize how dangerous it was so I gave up and pulled about 10 car lengths  in front & let him have a look at what happened when I stopped being so cautious ... & let the wind blow me onto his lane.  He didn't get near again.  Was a nice trip in spite of 2 of the cats getting car sick.... no solution for that, just stop & clean up messes.  Such is life.

Now I will tell you of what I thought a real funny happening today.  #1 son called this morning on his way to take his 3 yer old gr-daughter to the zoo... to tell me that "there is a radar trap on 21st Street so watch out".... I had mentioned last night when he called me, that I needed to go back to Sam's Club for a chicken for the cats since they were completely out when I went yesterday.   After thinking about his call this morning, I got to laughing to myself, wondering how many 55 year old sons would think to warn their 81 year old mother  about a "speed trap"...  :2funny:

I've had super service from the last car dealer (my little Encore) and will probably never buy from anyone
else.  The 2 dealers/sales people before that were not respectful, seemed resentful that I would shop without my husband.  Got rid of one with less than 7,000 miles on it & next one had 9,000 miles on it.  I had kept my last 2 vans for 12 & 14 years before that... My little Buick is such a delight to drive I am not even thinking of trading it in, I did drop OnStar since it rarely sees the highway.

Amazon Prime serves me well, I'm on my daughter's Prime & use it for the "free 2 day shipping" so always make sure to buy Prime items & check to see what shipping is when comparing ... generally save money to buy Prime & so far have been pleased with Amazon backing anything I buy.  Lots of time I can shop Amazon & be cheaper or as cheap as buying local, and I don't have to get out & run around to find what I want.  For instance.... I couldn't get the lid off a new jar of peanut butter on this last trip.... never happened to me before, (at home I have a "clamp on" opener that is about 55 years old...) so I shopped Amazon for one  instead of running around town.  With my hand failing me a few weeks ago using the staple gun, I am shocked at the loss of strength in my hands all of a sudden.  Still can't close my right hand but X-rays didn't show any broken or cracked bones.  Hanging onto that steering wheel didn't help, still sore.

Looks like Every Friend is doing okay... we are having rain but nothing like TX.  We are dancing for joy at the slow rain we got yesterday & again tonight.  Hugs to all, God Bless, sweet dreams, enjoy tomorrow!  Shirley

Good Tuesday evening to EVERYFRIEND.

I did not get in yesterday as my friend Patti was here all day visiting.  We had a wonderful time, but after she left I felt very tired and was out the rest of the night.

Today I had a Dexa Scan.  Everything went well, and I hope a good report will follow as I do not want to take any more pills.

Several of you commented about it being too late in the year to be having the large snowstorms.....I thought I would share this with you.

Glor â€" Ya/ll still have snow up there?    When will it stop for summer..?  Glad you like the cordless mouse.  I didn’t care for it…jumped around too much for me.

Hal â€" been years since I went to Cracker Barrel….guess they are still around.  Since I don’t get out…I don’t even know.  But  they always had good food.

Sandy â€" wow  good picture of you… how did you rate a  large photo?  The rest are so small you can barley see them.

Rick and Larry â€" I am happy with the mouse on a string…..LOL.   So I’ll leave it be for now.

Well, nothing changed….again I was taken back  a long way, and had to go thru three of Joan’s  “HERE” pages.  I used to be  able to go straight to the next post after the last one I  wrote.  Doesn’t work that way anymore.

Hal-  Great idea…I went to get some cheese to feed this mouse,   but messed around and sneaked a  few bites, and forgot to feed the mouse….uh, oh…!

CHUCKLES

Stay

I pulled into a crowded parking lot and rolled down the car windows to make sure my Labrador Retriever had fresh air. She was stretched out on the back seat, and I wanted to impress upon her that she must remain there. I walked to the curb backward, pointing my finger at the car and saying emphatically, "Now you stay. Do you hear me? Stay!"

The driver of a nearby car gave me a startled look. "I don't know about you, lady," he said incredulously. "But I usually just put my car in park."

Food For Thought

"Do as I Do"
(By Kristy Tolley)

I'm somewhat of a "germ-o-phobe". I rejoiced when the grocery store installed sanitizing wipes by the carts (so I didn't have to use my own!). And if I can use a public facility without touching a single thing, I'm a happy camper.

One day, as Peyton, my five-year-old daughter, and I were leaving the Target restroom, she did something remarkable. Without a word, she reached for a paper towel, and proceeded to use it to open the door so she wouldn't touch the handle. I was so proud. All of my "you never know how well other people wash their hands" speeches finally paid off.

I was reminded how kids really do emulate what they see - good or bad. Whether it's obsessive compulsive behaviors or other things we do in our lives, we are teachers - plain and simple. Do our kids see us open our Bible very often? Do they hear us pray regularly? Do they see how we give our tithes and time back to God - through our church and to others in need?

King David is an excellent example for us to look at. In 1 Chronicles 29, we see that David gave his personal fortune to be used in the building of the temple - that was over and above everything he had already provided!

The leaders responded to their king's actions (and to his challenge to them to do the same). "Then the leaders of families, the officers of the tribes of Israel, the commanders of thousands and commanders of hundreds, and the officials in charge of the king's work gave willingly." (verse 6)

As a result, the example set by King David and his leaders was very well received by the people. They witnessed firsthand abundant, sacrificial giving, and responded by outright praise and rejoicing. What a wonderful picture of how we should give, and how we should respond.

There have been plenty of times I've been a very poor example for my children. Through my impatience and critical nature, I give them many examples of how not to act. But I can rejoice in the knowledge that my children will also see when I get it right.

If we make a concerted effort to include our children in our spiritual growth, we can be assured that the Lord will bless those efforts. For example, in the last couple of years I've become an "out loud" pray-er and praiser. Sometimes it's a quick prayer of healing or comfort for victims of a car accident we pass. Other times it can be a loud praise song in the middle of my kitchen.

Just when I least expected it, my daughter once again showed me she was watching. She was playing with her Barbie doll in the back seat of the car one day. "Hey look Mommy," she called to me. I glanced back from the passenger's side. She had her dolls arm up. "Oh, is Barbie waving to me?" I inquired. "No," she replied, a little put out by my poor observation skills. "She's praising."

Thank You, Lord!

Prayer: "Lord, I pray that through my example, my children can learn the importance of giving ourselves wholeheartedly to You. Help me to always remember to follow Your lead. In Jesus' Name, Amen."

Good Morning Everyfriend!  It's only 38º here this morning but it's supposed to reach 70 by noon.  As I said before, a typical Spring day in Central PA.  You leave your home at 7 a.m.  dressed for winter and by noon you've shed at least 2 layers or your sweating!  We learn to dress in layers when we are in elementary school.

Thanks Amy for the good wishes for my second day back to work.  The measure our productivity by our "Items per hour" when we check out a customer.  Anything over 500 is considered good.  I'm usually hovering between 485 and 510.  On Monday, I finished the day with a whopping 525.  Not bad for being out of practice.

I've had my coffee and the doggies have been out so I guess I'll go feed them and scrounge up something for my breakfast.  I take a quick check to see who else is up and about before I take off for work.  In the meantime, to those of you are up and about...enjoy your morning!

I want you to know I heard from Amazon and my shipping charge has been removed.  I have had no problem with the quality of their products, but I was unable to find the “Free Shipping” box.  My eyes aren’t that bad, but I think there were so many options for this, that and the other thing” that I missed the box.

Sun, I like the Cracker Barrel food but go there if nothing else is near â€" it is TOO noisy.  I no longer travel, so don’t see them, but they really are all over the place.

Mary Ann

Hi everyone on this Wednesday morning.  Nothing too stressful on the agenda for today.  Pat and plan on going to the nursery for some plants and perhaps a quick stop at COSTCO for a couple of items.  Then this evening we have our Wednesday night dinner and tonight it is Shepard's Pie as the main dish.  We are coming down to the last few weeks of these dinners before the summer break.  We do look forward to some time with Scott.

Kelly, I know that some States in the US do provide additional allowances if you are over 65 or disabled.  On the Federal side there is a Standard Deduction in lieu of itemizing and don't think age or disability status has anything to do with the amount allowed.

Shirley, after your being stopped for speeding in the mountains I can understand why your son called to give you the heads up on the radar trap.  In this little town where I am now living they have very strict speed limit enforcement so I try to stay at the speed limit, which is usually 35 or 40 miles an hour.

Sun, if you start on the page that just shows Soda Shoppe in the Village Square  group of discussion you will see a little "new" indicator if there are new posting.  If you click on the "new" it takes you to where you left off reading.

JaneS, grading scales that depend on things like items processed in an hour don't seem to be very fair as you have no control on who comes to shop or goes through your checkout stand.  However, you had a good count on your first day back at work.

Kelly, Good afternoon to you.  We are still in the morning hours here in South Carolina.

Mary Ann, I have always found Amazon to be very fair and have had good customer service.  I agree with you about Cracker Barrel and being too noisy.  However, my wife likes to look around the gift shop and the food is consistently good.

I have enjoyed each and every one of the posting since yesterday.  Hope all will have a nice day.

Jeanne Lee

When my grandson went home after a visit a couple of years ago, he told his father I was a speed demon.  And my oldest son tells me I'm the only one he's ever known who stays within a posted speed limit.  Go figure!  :2funny:

Of course, now it doesn't matter, since I don't have a car and I'm not driving.   ;D
