I don't have a television but I have Youtube on my computer and Pandora on my phone, computer and kindle which are basically set to Jazz and the blues. I will sometimes subscribe to a different channel on Youtube if I see or hear something I like. But I tend to sort of hopscotch around the different musical genres. I never buy anything anymore as to my knowledge, it is readily available at any time as long as you have a radio or Internet connection.

I was thinking about retrying Hulu when they offered me a free month's trial without commercials since I had opted out of an earlier week's trial last year. But it wouldn't recognize me as the one who had the previous trial even tho they sent it to my current email address. I contacted support, (Don't you love it when they ask you to fill out a detailed description of your issue and then the chat person comes online and asks what's your problem as they say they can't see what you spent time writing!).

He tried three times to fix the issue using my current email address before sending me along to someone else. That person tried twice before saying I would need to accept a week's trial with my current email. I closed the chat window while he was still typing. I guess I will simply have to suffer through without Hulu.... ::)

Hi everyone.  It looks like we are in for another cloudy day but will see temperatures in the high 80's this afternoon.  Yesterday was just a quiet day.  In a little while Scott will be over and we will make a quick trip to Costco for a few items.  Then we have the last Wednesday night dinner at the church until after the summer.  It will be outside grilled hamburgers and hot dogs with all the trimmings.  Then Jennifer and Scott will come out and spend a little time with us.

Mary Ann, they thought the heat was the factor in the golfer not feeling at all well as he played on Saturday.  He was feeling better on Sunday and finished the tourney.  Sometimes it seems that pets can take over such as your experience with Kendrick.

Marilyne, I expect others are like me and find that two or three discussions is about all they can handle on a daily basis.  Nice you have good memories of places you have visited in the past.

Patricia, I also like almost all types of music although am not into the loud pounding repetitive type music the young people seem to enjoy today.  Hope you get your pictures hung.  I remember at the apartments where Stacey lived she had to fill any nail holes in the wall but was told that toothpaste works well as it hardens and doesn't shrink.  They always repainted after a tenant moved out. It sounds like you all had a wonderful meal Monday with a very good turnout.

Mary Ann

We were to go to Jan's today for our family get-together but Tom had a chance to make some extra money so we're going tomorrow instead.  Tom and I are furnishing sandwiches or subs from Jimmy John's, a place similar to Subway.  I don't know if it is only a local place or not and I think it is not.

We are on the cool side and the furnace has turned on but it really is not cold.  I wore a sweater to go to the mailbox and was very comfortable.  The sun is shining so you know it is a nice day!

I am on my own as far as lunch is concerned and I am not sure what we have.  I often tell Tom that as long as we have bread I will get along (peanut butter and mayo sandwich).

Mary Ann

Mary Ann,  we have been in the 90's but we also cooler today.  Had a lot of fresh air over night tho which helps me sleep.

Having my yogurt and juice and since finally got some books yesterday, I will be spending the day reading.

Lindancer

Good afternoon, got up to rain and cool again. I heard the oil burner come on also.

Maryann, I would add a banana to that sandwich. :)

Taffy is still in bed, I was awake till 4:45 when I woke up at 9:45
:o she was asleep along side of me.

Gloria, I have heard of people adding bananas to their peanut butter sandwiches but I have never had it that way and it really doesn't appeal to me.  I know my PB and mayo turns off some people, but I feel the same way about PB and jelly.  When I was a child (and you were too), our peanut butter was such that it stuck to the roofs of our mouths.  Someone suggested to my mother that we put mayo on the bread and it worked.  Both Norm and I preferred it that way.  I would make it that way for my nephews when they were young and they'd eat it and tell me it was good.  Even James said so, but if you mentioned mayo, James would say "yuck".  I do like bananas and often eat one plain, or I'll slice it into a bowl, add a small amount of sugar and milk and eat it that way.

It's getting close to 2 pm so I think I'd better see if PB and mayo is all I have and if it is, I think Tom will have to go to the store soon!

Kendrick is sleeping the sleep of the just right now and soon he will come in here to see if I am still around.  And speaking of the devil, he just came in to check on me.

Good morning from a sunny day in the Interior. We are expected to have a high of 71 today, having had a low of 58. Looking at Accuweather's extended outlook, the rest of June will be partly sunny/partly cloudy with highs in the early to mid-seventies. Not what I wanted to see as this is more Southeast temps than our normal temperatures.

As to peanut butter, for me, it is best chunky, on thick dark, whole grain bread with honey. I have a friend who actually stirs a heaping tablespoon into her hot coffee!

Not much going on here other than house cleaning and decluttering so I better get to it.

Mary Ann

My goodness, Patricia, I doubt we'll get to 71 today.  I think the forecast was for 68 degrees and it is 65 now.  It is nice and I'll take it because the sun is shining and i like it that way.

Mary Ann

Marilyne

Mary Ann - I also like peanut butter and mayo sandwiches. :)  My mother made them for us a lot during the war years.  I don't  recall that we had much in the way of jam or jelly when I was growing up?  Besides mayo, we also ate PB and pickle, cucumber, raisins, honey or lettuce.

My outside thermometer also says 71, right now. (it's 11:15 AM here.) Supposed to go to about 73 this afternoon.  AJ is outside mowing the lawn, and Winnie is sleeping in the sun.

Mary Ann, You make a list of food for Tom to take to the market for you. I have three meals a day offered at my Rowntree gardens, but I also have a small  kitchenette in my Apt. I usually eat breakfast and supper at home, so I keep a good supply of food on hand. I put bread or muffins in my freezer. I have peanut butter, jelly, honey, canned soups, frozen dinners, of all types, crackers keep well, potato chips, cookies, and I feel you should do the same my dear one. Tom is a dear boy and I am so glad you have him with you, but you should NOT let your food supplies taper down to peanut butter. You can all order in a pizza ! You are important to us girl..I want you to take better care of you. From one 92 1/2 year old to another close to that age. HUGS. June

My Mother would mash a banana in PB and make me sandwiches, I loved them.  I haven't had one in years.

But wife ask me if I would like a meat loaf sandwich and cheese and mac for supper, told her it would suit me fine.

I got her to pick me up a half gallon of butter milk a couple of days ago and I have drunk it.  It was not like the old home churned buttermilk, but it tasted good for a change.

When I was in Turkey and more or less batching, before wife and kids got there, I used to take potted ham to work and use it as a spread and put cucumbers and tomatoes on a sandwich.  The Turkish bread was kilo loafs (2.2 lbs) very crusty and you didn't want to keep it more than one day, it would sour in the center.  But it was excellent bread when fresh.

June, thanks for the advice, we have plenty to eat; it was lunch time and I don't like to eat too heavy then.  I did end up having a peanut butter and mayo sandwich and I think PB occasionally is good for me.  I have not had one for ages.  I love sandwiches.  Please do not read between the lines of my posts because it doesn't prove a thing.  I do have one good meal a day whether here or eating out.  Please don't worry about me; I've lasted 93 years so far!  I'll have to be more careful what I write.

Hal, I like meat loaf sandwiches too but we won't have meat loaf unless I make it.  Tom does well in his cooking but it often is chicken in some form or another.  He comes up with some tasty dishes but he likes his food more spicy than I do.  I don't care for buttermilk to drink but would use it in cooking - if we had some and/or if I cooked.

Mary Ann

Marilyne

All the talk in here about peanut butter, made me want some for lunch!  I had a PB & mayo sandwich, and a glass of cranberry juice.  Very satisfying!

Hal - I also like buttermilk. Not too many of us around anymore.  I also like Underwood Deviled Ham sandwiches, with cucumbers or pickles.  I rarely ever buy it though, because of the high salt content . . . but that's what makes it so good! ::)

Hi everyone.  We are suppose to see another cloudy day and another high up close to 90 degrees.  Yesterday I was so weary all day long that it was an effort to do anything.  I spend a good part of the day laying down resting.  Scott did come over around noon and we made a quick trip to Costco but when I got home I skipped lunch and laid down again.  He and I did have dinner at the Church last evening and he then came out for the evening.  Jennifer was not feeling well and decided to not go to the dinner or come out for the evening.  I got her a dinner to go that Scott took to her before she came out.  I am looking forward to coffee this morning with my men friends and then hope to still have enough energy to attend the Wisdom group as I have missed it for the last couple of weeks.

I am going to try to limit my comments again this morning as don't have much time before needing to leave for coffee and I like to read and post here in the mornings.

Mary Ann, I am sure the Jimmy John's is a national chain as we had them around Atlanta and out where we lived.

Joan, nice to see you now have some books to read.

deAngel, it sounds like you kept Taffy up late Tuesday night and Taffy needed to sleep in yesterday morning.

I have never been a fan of peanut butter in a sandwich.  I did like plain Miracle Whip on bread sandwiches as back then Miracle Whip had a nice tangy taste that seems to be missing in today's product.

Patricia, nice you had a sunny day.  Your temperatures sound like what I remember from Anchorage as it seldom got higher than the 70's during the summer.

Hal, that meatloaf sandwich and mac and cheese sounds good.  We are not having much pasta as Pat is trying to limit her carbs.  I have never liked buttermilk.

Marilyne, we had a lot of Underwood Deviled Ham sandwiches in our school lunches and at home when I was growing up.  Haven't had any in the last 50 years.

Sandy

Just checking in.   It is warm but cloudy here on the rocky coast of Maine.

I grew up on peanut butter and jelly sandwiches.   We also use to like peanut butter and bacon...    yum de dum !!!   :crazy2:

12 days to go until cast off.

I was walking through the grocery store Tuesday and walked right into a display  in the middle of the isle.     Kelly was behind me and saw the whole fiasco ...

I Didn't fall down, but lots packages of donuts did...
I couldn't stop laughing...

My problem is that I look to far in front of where I am walking and can't see the dangers around me.   I am use to standing tall and looking long, to where I am headed.

A problem I must solve or there will be more breaks a head for me.  :'(

I am fine!

Good morning from a bright, sunny, Interior! Yesterday was a lovely day and it was seventy-five degrees at four in the afternoon. Today, at six AM, it is already seventy. This seems to be two rainless, sunny days in a row and for that, we can be thankful.

Larry, yes, our temperatures have been running very similar to Anchorage and other Southeastern parts of the state unfortunately and the weather map for June shows it running about eight degrees below average. But then we have had the last two summers that way.   :-\

Farrah has gotten mostly used to no treats although she still gets excited each time she hears a similar sound and will go prancing to her cylinder when she does. She probably believes I'm a terrible tease!

I hope everyone is having a great day!

June Drabek

Mary Ann, sorry if I offended. You had written

"It's getting close to 2 pm so I think I'd better see if PB and mayo is all I have and if it is, I think Tom will have to go to the store soon!"

so that sounded to me like your larder was nearly bare. Sorry.

Decided I should do my monthly check-in. Hard to believe this is the first day of June. I love reading all your posts but for some reason just don't sit down and put my thoughts in print.

About meeting Senior Netters over the years....... Sandy, I believe you were the first one I met! My daughter was living in Brunswick, Maine and we met at DeMillo's Restaurant in Portland for lunch. This was nearly 20 years ago! Sometime later I think you met Dean Wheet in NH.  He dropped out of SN and haven't heard anything about him for years.

Larry - We did meet at the Atlanta Bash but I'm sure you wouldn't remember with so many people there. I took a nice photo of you and I think I posted it here on Seniors and Friends. I have so many great pictures from that Bash and all the others (5) I attended.

We're having a drought situation here in Florida and back home in Vermont they have too much water!

My husband is having surgery next week to repair a tear in his rotator cuff. He's been avoiding it but the everyday pain and movement restriction has convinced him to have it done. I have mixed feelings!  ::)

Mary Ann - I'm glad you had a good trip to Indianapolis and a nice time at the wedding.

Good night all!

Mary Ann

June, as I wrote, I'll have to be more careful what i write.  Actually, we had lots of canned goods that did not appeal to me at the time.  And it was the refrigerator that had almost nothing in it, not the house.  I make a list on my computer, then send it to Tom who does the shopping.  His selections are good, but he's not the impulse buyer I am so we run out of things I want to eat.  Many of our stores are starting delivering and I'll have to take time to see how that works.

Beverly, it is good to see you in here.  I think Dean Wheat visited Norm and Dot a couple of times.  If not him, it was someone named Dean and was tall.  I think he had his wife with him.  Long time ago.  I have a rotator cuff problem but the doctor told me he did not advise it at my age.  So I hurt.  I do take an arthritis pill which helps some.

Mary Ann

larryhanna

Hi everyone. I am getting a late start this morning as when I tried to start using my desktop all kinds of things happened as I think there must have been a Microsoft update during the night.  Finally I had to manually turn it off and reboot and now everything seems to be working.  We are going to have a another warm day up to about 90 degrees but we do have sun today after two days of clouds.  The schedule is light today.  The housekeeper will be here in a few minutes and we may go out for our main meal later this afternoon.

Yesterday was the best day, in terms of how I was feeling, that I have had in sometime.  I woke up ready to tackle the world and held up reasonably well all day.  I am still feeling pretty good today but won't push it.  I may go in a little while and see if I can find some flowers for my front porch.

Sandy, sure glad it was only the donuts that fell.  Aisles should be for walking and not for all those extra displays.  They can also be a problem when a person uses one of those electric riding carts.

Patricia, glad you are having some nicer days and seeing the sun.

Beverly, I do remember you from the Atlanta Bash.  I haven't thought of Dean Wheat for ages.  He and I use to communicate fairly often when he was active in SN.  I am sure Chape is dreading the rotator cuff surgery as that is a tough one and painful but hopefully it will eventually solve the pain.  It sounds like he might have played a few holes of golf too many.  :)

Mary Ann, you probably would like the online ordering and home delivery of food items.  While we don't have home delivery yet the online ordering works great and they have it ready at a designated time for us to pick up the food.  They load it into the car for us.

Mary Ann

Larry, when/if I go to online grocery ordering, I would go to our local Meijer store (supermarket) which is about four miles from here and Tom would pick up the order at the store.  I don't know of any except Schwans that delivers to the home.  I must take the time to investigate the service and I don't take the time!

It is now 11 am and I've showered, washed my hair and had breakfast.  The forecast for today is 80 degrees and I think I'll dress accordingly!  I'll have to make time to sit on the deck with the cat so he can get outside.

Beverly, I have a rotator cuff problem too and my shoulder aches but I was told by an orthopedic surgeon two or three years ago that he didn't recommend surgery at my age.  I would not look forward to it either, but I don't like the constant pain.  My PCP suggested Arthritis 650 pills which dull the pain but doesn't eliminate it.  Good luck to Chape in his surgery.

Hi guys & gals!

Mary Ann, please wish Dot a happy birthday from me tomorrow.  Tell her I am thinking about her and wish her well.

I am getting close to joining you all shortly.  My mind is finally finding peace about my son.  Thru God's help

You all have a great day ~

shirleyn.

Marilyne

Hi shirley - Good to see you here. I'm glad you're feeling a little better about your son, and are finding some level of peace.

Mary Ann - My husband AJ also has serious rotator cuff pain, that never goes away.  The doctor told him the same thing he told you - that surgery for RC, does not work well for older people, and that he would not do it, nor would he recommend it for anyone over age 80.

Our temps look to be about the same as yours today - supposed to be just about 80 degrees by mid afternoon.  Enjoy your time out on the deck with Kendrick. :) I'll probably sit outside for awhile with Winnie later on today.  Still morning here, and I'm trying to decide if I want to talk AJ into going to Costco with me.  It's an ordeal, because the place is absolutely HUGE, and requires a lot of walking.  I see that they have a special this month on a queen size sheet set for $24.00!  That's an incredible price, and I really need sheets.  I'll look at them, and see if they seem like decent quality, and if so, I'll buy a set for for us and for each of our two daughters, for Christmas or before.

Sandy

Hi Shirleyn,
Glad to see you are back and feeling more like joining in now.
Peace is not always easy to come by, when we loose a
loved one.

We are finally getting some nice warm weather here
in Maine.   Summer is right around the corner!
Now if it would just stay!

Sandy

Shirley, good to see you posting.   HUGS

Mary Ann

Shirley, it is good to see you posting.  I know it takes time to get over the shock of losing your son.  Time does ease the pain, however, the pain never goes completely away.

I'll forward your message to Dot and she'll be glad to hear from you.

Marilyne, I think we did hit 80 degrees today and it's only 2:30.  The humidity is not doing me any good.  With my A-Fib, I feel almost breathless.  I take Arthritis 650 which does help my rotator cuff pain, but not entirely.  I usually take four tablets but I can take up to six, no more than six.

Tom and I ate Chinese today and I brought half home.  Tom is going to a wedding this afternoon so I have my supper ready.

Mary Ann

angelface555

Good morning, (10:32 AM); from another bright, cloudless, breezy  Interior! We are expecting somewhere in the mid-seventies and had a low in the mid-sixties last night and today.

Farrah is, as usual, she has been leaping about, tossing her felt mice while up on her haunches and playing whack a mole with her cylinder.

I am still alternating between cleaning house and playing on my computer, I will need to get in gear and get busy so it isn't a rush towards the last week and my inspection. Otherwise no real news from here.

Shirley, it is good to hear from you and that you are feeling better!

I often look into my stocked cupboards and see nothing to eat. I have become a nibbler and usually don't have the time or energy to cook a full meal. One nibble of mine is with the last bit of smooth peanut butter in the jar. I toss in a light handful of walnut bits and drizzle that with honey. I will eat that, after stirring well, right out of the jar and a spoon is the only thing that needs washing. The seedless watermelon I purchased on the 24th,  was finally cut into yesterday. This is why food spoils for me. I simply either forget it's there or simply don't use it up. A friend or two has suggested menu planning but I'm not that organized.

SCFSue

Beverly, my late husband, Bob, was a P3 Navy pilot and we were stationed in Brunswick, Maine, twice.  1960-1964 and 1974-1976.  Was your daughter connected with the U.S. Navy and which years did she live there?  Brunswick is a lovely little college town (Bowdoin College) and we enjoyed living there. During Bob's second tour there, we lived out on Orr's Island and our sons loved that area.

I didn't start with Senior Net until I'd met Jane (Iowa) and GinnyAnn (Ohio) online at Third Age when we all were recovering from breast cancer.  I think Jane was the first of us to come to Senior Net and now Seniors and Friends.

Thanks to Marilyne,Joan, Mary Ann and Angelface for the welcome back.

Although we had to cancel a couple of trips, we are planning on flying up to Buffalo the middle of July to visit Danny's daughter.  That will be a little change of pace for us.  She (a young single mother) bought her first home.  This is why we are going there - to see the new house.  Excited about that.

About the peanut butter sandwich, I often have banana on mine.  Years ago I used to enjoy bacon and lettuce on it, too.  Oh, yes, and strawberry jam.

I am enjoyng all your cat stories.

And a happy 60th wedding anniversary to Beverly & Chape.

Still catching up on the conversation in here.  ~_~

larryhanna

Hi everyone.  It is another beautiful and sunny morning here in South Carolina and we are headed up to 90 degrees.  This is a replica of the day we had yesterday.  I have a fairly quiet day planned.  I am going to attend a 10:30 am Al-Anon meeting this morning and then rest this afternoon and probably watch some of the PGA golf tournament.  Yesterday evening we did go to Walmart for prescriptions and then stopped at the Dairy Queen for hamburgers and a Dairy Queen treat.

Mary Ann, Pat likes the online grocery shopping as it allows her to take her time and as she thinks of something she can add it to the order and not place the order until she is ready.  It is working very well for us.  Believe me she knows how to order from other places as well, especially those involving fabric and related items.  I hope you enjoyed your time on the deck yesterday with Kendrick.

ShirleyN, glad to see you will be joining us shortly.  Nice you will be able to visit Danny's daughter and see her new home.  How many children does she have?

Marilyne, when I go to Costco and buy items we will repeatedly use I have started annotating my grocery list with the location where I found it rather than having to hunt for it each time.  I use a new app I found on my iPhone called Google Keep, which is like a memo pad and has a feature for making lists such as grocery items.  When you find them you put a check mark in the little box and it line through the item and puts in below the line.  If you want the item again it you just remove the check mark and the item is back in your active list.  The program will also make notes of things you want to be able to find quickly such as medication lists.  These notes can be color coded and put into folders.  It is the most useful notebook type app I have every used.  It is saved in the cloud so can also be accessed from other devices and the computer.  We are finding that most things Costco sells are top quality.

Sandy, glad you are getting some warm weather.

Joan, good morning.

Patricia, it sounds like you are enjoying our nice days. I guess Farrah can keep hoping you will break down with a treat or two.

Sue, SeniorNet brought so many of us together and created great friendships.  I was glad when Pat Halback created this website for us.
