Interesting quote, Bubble, also very nice graphic.

Sandy, Happy Independence Day to you!  And everyone else.

Hi everyone. Hi everyone.  I am getting off to a slow start this morning as didn't get up until a little after 8.  Pat beat me up this morning and had fixed her own breakfast.  The only thing on the schedule for today is to go down to our Kroger store and pick up an online order that Pat placed yesterday.  This will be our first time to use this service at Kroger.  It is going to be another hot and humid day with a halfway chance of rain this afternoon.

Joan, sure hope you daughter has a good trip back to Nevada.  Do you have any idea of where she is headed to live?

Patricia, the weather you are having reminds me of the years we lived in Anchorage where the temperature seemed to stay in the 70's during the daytime.  However, my memory of a trip to Fairbanks in July was that it was 100 degrees or more.  I get very frustrated sometimes when I get ready to do something on my computer and I get this Windows update in progress message but then I remind myself it is for my benefit if it makes the operating system more stable and safer.  I can still remember those "blue screens of death" screens we often had with some of the older versions of Windows.  They seem to have eliminated them now. I am certainly saddened when people leave our discussions due to a hurt feeling.  Sometimes we don't express things well or just have differing opinions but we each have a different personality.  However, I consider everyone's input, whether small or large, as important.

Mary Ann, I haven't had a long john pastry in a very long time.  That sounds so delicious.  Either marshmallow or lemon is fine with me.

Jeanne, are the crops being burnt up with all of the heat you have been having? Our church has a new renovated gym and has started a walking program three early evenings in it as it is nice and air-conditioned.  I may try it to see if my heart will allow me to do it.  Do hope you are able to get to the beach before long.  That would be at the bottom of my to-do list.  As South Carolina is a coastal state many of our church friends have beech cottages or just vacation at the beach.

Marilyne, I also miss the great postings that MaryPage shared with us.

Bubble, that is an interesting and true quote you shared.  I missed Don't program yesterday but remembered he said he wouldn't be broadcast as the station was closed for a holiday.

Sandy, Happy 4th to you and everyone who posts here from the USA.  I hope I can remember to put out my little American flag tomorrow.

Jeanne Lee

Wimbledon is underway.  As expected, wins by Venus Williams and Andy Murray.  Also to be expected at Wimbledon, a rain delay.   ;)

Larry - Thanks for providing my first smile of the day! ;D. I guess Pat was mad at you for not getting up earlier and fixing those sausage biscuits! LOL!

Not quite 8:00 am here.  I need one more cup of coffee, and then will be ready to face the day.  Beautiful weather expected all week.  It will be in the mid 70's.

wjoan - where does Candy stay when she's in Nevada?  My mother and my grandmother were both born there.  I have lots of relatives living in many of the small towns, but most are now in Reno.

bubble - Great quote!  I'm going to pass it along to daughters and friends.

wjoan

Larry, I know where she is headed but not to live.  Since she is known for changing her mind I will not go further than she is headed to NV to her storage locker.  :)

Good afternoon, it is almost 90

Larry, now that is funny, what Merilyn picked on.  We always need laughs

Bubble, thanks for the cards, and good to see you posting in here.

MaryAnn, I slept till 9 yesterday, and I was having a bad dream, I also thought some one was slapping me.  I woke up and Taffy, was setting there hitting me with a close paw. :o

Patricia - Love the Dos Equis guy! :smitten:

I started out early today. By now it is in the 90s and 3pm so that is it for me. I got laundry together and took it along with my big rug that I did myself. Came out beautiful again after doing it since 1966. It is a Australian Sheep wool. it is still hanging at the laundry. Will get it tomorrow. They are open

At 4pm the carpet cleaners will be here. Can't cancel again so just letting them come. Didn't get my walls cleaned down which I wanted to do. I am going to try and steam all my big drapes and not take them down this year.
Sure do not have the energy in this kind of weather for heavy work.

Larry. Some of the farmer have replanted crops but I was out driving by the big farms Saturday and corn looks to be O.K. Will be knee High by the 4th of July as the saying goes. Usually higher though. but not burned is seems.

It's a delightful mid-70s day.  Until I came in to send a grocery list to Tom, the cat and I were sitting on the deck enjoying ourselves.

I have no idea what/if any of us might be doing tomorrow.  I'd really just do nothing, or at least stay home and fix a picnic lunch - just for me.

We're making plans for a cookout at James' for Tom's 60th birthday on the 16th.  We will invite some of his friends.  I think 60 is a milestone - and one neither of his brothers accomplished - so I asked the kids to make all of the arrangements and I'd pay for everything; that would be my gift.  I'm not able to do much of anything else.  I have the easy part.

Mary Ann

Hi everyone on this 4th of July. This reminded me to put out my American flag on this bright, sunny and soon to be very hot 96 degree day.  I got about 9 hours of rest/sleep last night and more more alert this morning.  I plan to just stay in where it is cool today.  I do need to shred a pound of cheddar cheese and then make up some more sausage muffins for Pat but neither job is difficult.  I am sitting here eating some of our first watermelon for the season.  I like it very much for breakfast as it is cold and tasty.

Yesterday I did go to Kroger's to pick up the online grocery order and it worked very well.  In fact, we liked it better than Walmart in that you actually get a checkout receipt as if you had gone through a register.  This is really the way to grocery shop. These two stores are right across the highway from each other.

Jeanne, rain and Wimbledon just seem to go together.

Marilyne, Pat usually eats the sausage muffins every other day and did have a couple for her breakfast yesterday.  She had her scrambled eggs today and I will be making more muffins today so they will be available for her breakfast tomorrow.

Joan, it sounds like your daughter is something of a free spirit and isn't afraid of changes.  We have moved numerous time in our married life and feel it has helped expand our view of the world and the country.

Patricia, interesting quote.

deAngel, I agree we do need laughs and I often get a chuckle out of things I read that could be taken more than one way.  We sure need to be able to laugh at ourselves and what I said could be read more than one way.  :) Taffy was telling you it was time to get up.

Jeanne, it sounds like you had a busy day yesterday with the laundry and then the carpet cleaners today.  Pat decided in this house we wouldn't have any curtain that had to be taken down and laundered or dry cleaned.  We have  wooden flat blinds and while the windows look a little stark they are easy to clean.  Not having the curtains and drapes were another way we reduced the duties of caring for a house.  In our other houses we always had curtains and drapes. Glad the crops seem to be OK.

Mary Ann, it doesn't make sense to me to be out in the heat when we have a delightfully cool home to enjoy.  It sounds like you are having much more enjoyable temperatures.  Nice of you to pick up the costs for Tom's birthday party.

Mary Ann

Larry, I don't think we have any groceries or supermarkets in this area that deliver.  We don't have any Kroger stores in Michigan other than around Detroit.  We used to have both Kroger and A&P but no more.

Since I don't cook or drive I decided my funding of a party for Tom would be his present from me.  It will not be an elaborate party, but a cookout at James and Alicia's home in Holland.  Invitations will stipulate "no gifts" but I am sure some will disregard that.  Tom's kids will do the purchasing of food and putting things together and neither of them has a lot of money, so it will work out fine - they will do the work that I feel I can't do and I'll spend the money they don't have!

Today should be quiet and I haven't heard of any plans from any of us.  I wouldn't be surprised if Tom didn't get together with friends, but he also has been busy and doing nothing would be good for him.  He burns his candle at both ends and is trying to slow down, but isn't doing a very good job of it yet.

Mary Ann

Marilyne

Mary Ann - Very nice and generous of you to provide funds for Tom's party.  You can just enjoy yourself, while everyone else handles the food preparation and the transportation. I agree, that turning age 60 is definitely a milestone.

No celebrations here in this neighborhood today or tonight.  Our cul-de-sac, used to be bustling with activity all day on the 4th.  Barbecues, beer kegs and volley ball games going on until dark, when the Safe&Sane fireworks started.  They were very bland and mild in those days, compared to what people can buy online now, or bring in from Mexico.

Fire warnings are posted everywhere here. We had a wet winter, so lots of waist high brush and weeds, that are now brown and dry, and ready to burn at the slightest spark.  Yesterday we had a hot dry wind, with humidity levels dropping into the 20's here.  This morning the fog rolled in from the coast, so it's a bit more comfortable.

Marilyn, we as a complex don't do anything for any holiday.  We used to have picnics in the summer, but younger people moved in and they didn't go for those.  Attendance dwindled to where we just don't have them any more.  We have only 66 units here and lots are occupied by singles.  It used to be the occupants would be older but that was long ago.  In August, I will have been here 36 years and only one person has been here longer than I have and that is only by four or five months.  We both moved here in 1981.

I am sporting red, white and blue today - red socks and earrings, blue shorts and blue and white top.  I feel very patriotic!  I no longer have a flag so I can't put one out.  I had a cotton 48-star flag and gave that to Terry's son, Geoff, a number of years ago.  The flag was my dad's, so I told Geoff it belonged to his great-grandfather.  I think the flag is in Grand Rapids yet but he assured me it will be with him some day.  He lives in South Pasadena CA and is looking to buy a home - but in Michigan.

Tom went grocery shopping this morning so we have food in the house.  I had him get some cube steaks which I haven't fixed in ages.  Maybe not as tasty as T-bones but a lot less expensive.

It is about 80 degrees out already and Tom turned on the air.  He notices the heat more than I do and appreciates the damp coolness in our lower level.  He is working on losing weight and when/if he gets down far enough, he won't notice the heat so much.  However, that might be another year or so!!!

Grand Haven is busy.  You can't see much of the beach for the trees, but lots of boats out - some for swimming, some for fishing, some for boating.  It is a beautiful day there, same here.

Candy made it to Gardnerville last night.  That is where her storage locker is so she is right where she wanted to be.

Larry, this is the first time in awhile she <Candy> has been without obligations or anyone depending on her.  Yes, a free spirit she is right now.

Happy fourth to all......

Good morning from a damp, foggy, rainy Interior! If it follows yesterday's schedule, it will be a very hot, dry midday, bracketed by rain and Tstorms, morning and evening. Our holiday cookout is today but I've decided to stay home. Sometimes being an adult means it is more fun not to go out!

Farrah has a new favorite. She loves to stretch out fully for a total rubdown. I will place my thumb on her back and my palm on her belly and give her a firm rub down while she stretches and twitches. If you stop prematurely, she takes a moment and then looks at you like "Well...?!"   ::)

Larry, this summer weather here in Fairbanks used to be lows in the mid-seventies and highs between 104-108. About every three or four years we would have a rainy summer such as in 1967 when it rained every day and we had a disastrous flood. However, just as the winters have turned mild with very little snow, the past three summers have been more rain than shine, It has been very disappointing as we also have had more wind when it used to be a rarity. Bubble sent me a news article about odd sea animals or plankton having reached Alaskan shores from the south.

Good afternoon, and a hAPPY 4TH OF jULY

Larry, the 4th use to be one of the few times we had watermelon.

MaryAnn, that is so nice of you, to take care f Tom's birthday. I know you and the family will enjoy it.

Joan, I know you do a sign of relief when you hear from your daughter. We parents are like that.  I use to tell my sons I made the trip with them, and said a thank you pray, when they arrived.

Patricia, we sure do love our babies. To day, I got my bed made before she got back in it.

:smitten: Sandy, I loved the photo of Fe that you are using as an avatar. Is that her mother taking in Europe with family?

MarsGal, I do read some science fiction such as The Dragons of Perth series and about a police detective in the future. However, I am more interested in historical fiction. I did enjoy the various Star Trek, Deep Space Nine television series and seeing a few Star Trek movies but that was, and it sounds funny to say this, in the last century.   ::)

Larry, I enjoy my classes online. I have taken classes online or through adult education or more college classes since my first four years at college. I am not one for games or chat other than discussion forums. These classes are something I really enjoy and learn so much from.

Bubble, I so agree! I saw that and saved it from Wordsmith. "It has been said that a pretty face is a passport. But it's not, it's a visa, and it runs out fast. "
-Julie Burchill, writer, and journalist (b. 3 Jul 1959) "  The quote at the bottom of my posts also came from Wordsmith.

The people who left, are still posting on other sites that seem more friendly to them. Some still post here just in one discussion. I remember one who was basically hounded from the Soda Shop and the last was done very unwarranted and viciously. It is why I also quit that site. It was done very judgementally and the person who did it had gotten what was said totally wrong but cared less.

Thanks, Marilyne, I love that guy's memes too!

I agree Gloria! Between Taffy and Kendrick, it's a wonder your's and MaryAnn's bed don't stay unmade. Farrah ignores the bed unless I'm in it. My biggest issue with her is jumping on my dresser and repeatedly knocking things off or taking hairbows to play with. Last night I found a hairbow halfway under my covers!

MaryAnn, I hope Tom enjoys his party! I will be 66 at the end of this month, four years from seventy and it is hard to believe as I never even felt liked I was sixty....

I hope everyone is enjoying their day and holiday!

wjoan

lindancer, yes and thanks.   Her next destination is Santa Cruz, CA to drop off the dog's bed.  ;)

Thanks..   I really love that picture, too!

Fe's Mom is Madison,  and she is NOT in Europe with Kelly,
Maggie and Maeve.       Madison spent six months during her Junior
Year in Germany working as a au pair with some friends.    So she had
her European adventure a few years back.

I just spoke with Maggie and she invited me to go watch the fire works
here in Portland up on the Eastern Prom tonight with her and her friends.

I graciously refused...  that is just too long for me to be out at night,
and not able to get back home  when I need to.    (thousands of people show up
for this occasion)   Too claustrophobic for me!

Fe is very photogenic (says me,) her Great Gramma!!

I have enjoyed today doing little, sitting on the deck for a while - and the sky that I could see was absolutely cloudless.  Dot and I got together last year but we both said it would be nice to do nothing - so that is what I did.  Dot's family is at a time-share cabin up north and she did not want to go but she and her friend, who now lives next door to her, probably are together.  Tom has been home but is preparing to leave to join friends for the evening.  I'm hoping I can see more fireworks than I saw last night.

Kendrick has not let thunder bother him so I was curious about fireworks.  Unless they're very loud, the fireworks did not bother him, but when some big boomers let loose, I could see him shudder.  I won't make him sit out with me - if I sit out there tonight.

Mary Ann

Marilyne

wjoan - Candy will have to pass through my town, (Los Gatos), in order to get to Santa Cruz.  We're the last stop before driving over the mountain pass to SC.  I'll wave to her as she drives by!

Mary Ann - Looks like you're having a nice relaxing day.  I haven't heard the sound of any fireworks, yet, but it's still early here - only 1:30.  Winnie doesn't react calmly like Kendrick does, to the sound of firecrackers. He's frightened by the sudden noise, and takes off down the stairs, and into the basement.  I remember that last year it was fairly quiet here, so it wasn't too traumatic for him. Just a few loud bangs, from a few blocks away. For his sake, I hope it's the same this year.

Sandy - Our son and family are going to Europe this coming weekend!  The kids, (now 21 and 22), will be traveling with friends, and will be gone for a month.  Son and dil will be flying over on the same plane, but will then spend their time in England, where they have friends, and then on to Italy.  It's a scary time to travel around Europe, what with all the terrorist attacks there, but I wouldn't say anything to them . . . I'll just worry a lot!

Gloria de and Patricia - I like reading about Taffy and Farrah. (Kendrick too)  They all have a lot more energy than my Winnie.  His 19th birthday is coming up soon . . . sometime in the middle of August.  He seems to be slowing down lately, but I'm hoping it's just the hot summer weather.  On Thursday, Cocoa the chocolate Lab, will be returning. This time he will be here for two weeks! That will be hard on Winnie, and hard on me too!

wjoan

Marilyne, it might be a few days.  Her car broke down and since she is the middle of nowhere they cannot find her.

Mary Ann

Marilyn, Kendrick would be a lot more active if he had another cat around.  He'll be four on July 17 (maybe we should combine Tom's birthday and the cat's).  Every so often he races from my bedroom to the living area, going down a short hallway.  He sat quietly last night as the fireworks went off, but only when the loud boomers sounded did he flinch.  As long as I was on the deck, he stayed with me.  There ought to be more fireworks tonight so we will see what will happen.

Oh, Joan, how awful.

Sandy thanks for the information! I remember years ago seeing a post of the four girls and their brother as youngsters and pre-teens! Time does indeed fly!

MaryAnn, those are darling little girls.
