Well said Hal, June you are one amazing woman and don't you think otherwise!! We all have off days.....no one is exempt from them. Sometimes my off days come in herds!  :)

I got a coupon for a free bag of Wellness dog food on PetSmart's website.  It was good for 2 to 8 lbs and guess what?  I got an 8 lb bag FREE.  That's the best price I've ever paid for dog food!

It's supposed to be raining here right now but I only caught a few sprinkles just as I turned into my road.  Maybe later.  I guess it doesn't matter.  I'm not going anywhere until church tomorrow.

I hope you grouchy people are all over your grouches by now.  I'm not used to finding grouches in here.  It's OK to complain now and then.  We all do that.  And that's what I'm putting you all down for today.  I'll expect you to be at your Sunday Best tomorrow.  Ya Hear?

Now I'm going to go see what's playing under my eyelids.  Y'all enjoy the rest of your day!

That is a nice deal Jane!! Weather has turned out great, looks as though the storm went around us unless there is another one following???

I see Sun's avatar and wonder how she is doing???

My girls are not going to be happy with me as they are next for the nail clipping. :(

This is the first year in a long time that we have seen a lot of Monarch butterflies. Nice to see them in numbers again.

Better go sew...

My apologies dear hearts. I just let my anger at myself spill out. Made myself comfortable after lunch at home, and lay down for a nap. It helped.

Sunshine came out this afternoon, so needed to put the A/C on for a bit. I think it may be a good idea to get out of the apt. and walk a bit.

I sure love you, all my friends. You are "keepers" for sure.
As long as we are here, let's dance.

I'm back. Took my walk, sat down in the glider with my good book it the sunshine and fresh air. Lovely !!! I felt like a new woman right away. We need the sunlight to keep us on an even keel. A talkative friend came by, and before I knew it a couple of hours had passed. Now it is time to fix a light supper and be thankful. More love to you all. June

 Where are you Lloyd ?.

larryhanna

Hi everyone. After a very hot day yesterday we expect basically the same for today.  There is a higher percentage for the likelihood for some rain this afternoon.  I am going to Sunday School and Church but I am doubtful that Pat will make it to Sunday School but hopefully will want me to come and get her so she can attend Church and we can go out to eat our main meal of the day.  I will rest this afternoon and then watch the end of the golf tournament.  They sure had a long day yesterday and the playing conditions appeared to be difficult.

Lloyd, after three marriage ceremonies they should be sufficently married.  Will all three be held one right after the other or at different times?

Amy, sometime ago at Costco I bought an emergency light that looks like an old fashioned lattern but works on 8 or 9 D cell batteries.  The thing that sold me on it was it has a place to plug in a USB connector so would be able to keep my phone charged up.  When Scott saw it he thought it would be great and so I have one in the closet awaiting his birthday in late October.

Carol, there have been only a couple of occasions when having a generator would have come in very handy.

June, for goodness sake give yourself room to be human.  You are certainly never a failure and you know that we all love you.  You are an inspiration to us.  We all have down days and I see yours didn't even last all day.  Being with other people helps us sometimes.  We all make mistakes in ordering and I always say to myself "How Important Is It" because shortly thereafter I have forgotten about it as it was no big deal.

Hal, for many years we have banked where there were senior accounts and they did not charge for standard checks.  With online paying I find I now write very few checks.

Jane, I like free things.  That was a good price on the dog food.  Is that the brand you normally buy for your dogs?

halkel

Good Morning Everyone!

Larry, my wife is the only one who uses checks.  I use a credit card (get a few cents back on every purchase) and I pay all my bills through my credit union.  Saves quite a bit on postage and checks and very convenient to me.

My wife is like lots of people, hard for her to break old habits, she also has a different credit card and insist on using it on occasion,  why I have no idea, but it is no big deal.  Just another bill to pay every month.

I am also all ready for church, wife is getting ready, but I heard her on the phone to someone.

Family all coming over for Sunday dinner tonight so we will have a house full for a while.

Hope Lloyd is feeling better and over his dizziness.

Everyone have a great day.

Lindancer

Good morning, rained all night, but sunny to day.  After I write this I will take my coffee and do out on the deck to read the Sunday paper.

June, I know just how you fee. did not sleep last night, so very tired to day.  My legs are really acting up. for some reason I am keeping a very low plus.

Hal, I know you will have a very nice time with your family, to night.

Larry, I hope Pat was able to go to church with you.  There are days I just cannot seem to get out of my own way.   I did get to my primary doctor Friday.  He wants me to g back to the cardiologist and pulmonary doctors.

Went to church and stayed for coffee hour.  I always enjoy that period of companionship.  Today was better than usual.  Friday, while I was working, I decided that I'd stop by the deli on my way home and get a slice of cheesecake.  I forgot!  Today, the coffee hour treat was (TADA!!!) cheesecake!  Am I lucky or what!

LARRY, the free dog food was Wellness, I alternate between that and Earthborn so it was a good buy.

I stopped by the Farmers Market on my way home and got a basket of red beets to can so that will be my activity later today and tomorrow morning.  I probably won't have a canner full but I'll have enough to get me through the winter.  They're good for my blood pressure AND my cholesterol.

I hope you are all enjoying whatevr it is that's keeping you busy this morning.

Good morning everyone. I have to learn to shut off the cellphone at night. I had several calls yesterday from a 917 area code. I did not answer. Last night woke me from a sound sleep and it was the same number. If I do not know the number I do not answer.
Tomorrow is a state holiday here. RI is the only state that still celebrates VJ day. Not every place has the day off.

AMY  glad your lawnmower was not a major problem. Last time I had an appointment when I got home and the drver took my new rollator out of the car one brake was locked. Had all I could do to get up here with it. Yesterday my son looked at it. the brake cable somehow got wrapped around a knob. It is fine now. The company could have send someone here to check it for $75. Now if it happens again I know what to look for.

JANE  hope that tummy bug is all gone now. Sure can wear a person out.

LARRY  I cannot see where this place needs painting after being here 3 years. I do not do much cooking and no frying to have grease splattered in the kitchen. I am not a slob and even the help I get always tell me how clean it is in here.

LLOYD  I would pick the Navajo wedding to attend. We all know the traditional but I never heard of a French wedding before.

HAL  like I said before, this manager is a witch.  A man across the hall had his done 2 years ago after we had flooding. She waited too long to get a team here to get the ice off the roof and leaks happened. His apartment was the worse and since she does not like him, his was the last one to be fixed. They had to take the ceiling dowm and they had plastic sheeting up between him and the roof. He has had llung trouble since then. Now she wants it painted again. It is not the owners of the building it is her.

AMY  you are the kind of friend and neighbor everyone wishes they had.

CAROL  I inted to the manager about this painting job. It really does not need it.

JUNE  the tenants in this building can do nothing about the manager we have so I will not worry about it. Things always seem to have a way of working out.

HAL  there was a time I got free checks from my bank. No more. I have to order some but then I do not write many so they do last for a long time.

JANE  I sure do not feel grouchy today.

GLORIA de  we had rain in the forecast the last couple of days but did not get any.

Mary Ann

Gloria, from what I understand, those 900 area codes are foreign where they make you wait and you pay for the call during the waiting.  They are not like the 800 numbers.

Dot and I did our usual after church this morning; we split a long john and a tuna melt.  Otherwise, we split a pie or sweet roll, then each gets a burger, only hers is an oliveburger.  We eat well after church.

We have a beautiful day in store so far.  We need rain but I'm going to get out a small sprinkler so my flowers will get some moisture.

Good afternoon everyone..

Friend phoned early this morning and we met at Timmies for tea.
Have a peach pie in the oven and will be ready and in the hidey hole in a bit. I had hoped the peaches were freestones but they weren't..

A day of rest here, just have to go let the neighbours dog out in a bit then I will go play in my sewing room :)

Enjoy your day everyone.

In to say Good night dear hearts. You are all the very best !!!! I had a lovely afternoon. Gary and Dori stopped by, and Gary added all my phone contacts to my new Jitterbug. And he is going to make exchanges to Amazon for me. I told Dori I didn't trust myself to buy on line anymore, so she placed an order for me. God sure Blessed me with thoughtful, loving, caring kids. I think they would even breathe for me if I needed it.

I got up this morning and dressed for Church, but as I opened the door to leave, I got one of those "passing out" feelings, so ended up spending the day at home. No sense is pushing my good luck.

Mycheal, I have been missing you, so it was a real treat to see your post this morning. Hope all is well with you my friend.

Gloria, that manager of yours is getting away with too much. I am really surprised that some tenants haven't reported her to the owners.

Gloria de, I am sorry you had a sleepless night. That can be so miserable. At our age we really need a good nights sleep so we can face the day.I hope that this night will be a really good one for you.

I'm looking forward to tomorrow. Nothing special planned, but waking up to a fresh new day is a lovely gift from God. Hugs my dear friends. I love you all.
As long as we are here, let's dance.

Amy

Good morning everyone.

Love this cooler weather!!  Need to do a few things here, garbage to the dump and lawn mowing. VON is coming but we don't have a time yet.

Larry, thank you ,I shall look the next time  I get to Costco for one of those lights. I think that is a great idea!

June, you make our day special just by coming in here and saying hello!

Hal,our bank just did away with pass books and send you a statement each month. I am not happy with this system.

Gloria,I can feel your frustration with that manager. Hope she soon finds another job. Last time I went shopping and had a lot of bags to bring in,I used hubby's wheel chair and brought them all up the ramp.

Mary Ann, what is a long john???

Jane, I love beets, plain as a vegetable or pickled. Hope your feeling much better. What kind of cheesecake?? I have yet to meet one I didn't like.

Lloyd, hope you have a headache free day today and can just rest.

Gloria De when I can't sleep I get back up and get a glass of milk, of course when you have milk you have to have cookies too.  :)

Enjoy your day everyone

JaneS

Good Morning Everyfriend!  I came in this morning and realized that I had not been by to say Good Night.  I was very tired last night and I went to bed early.

Amy, the cheesecakes were plain but our bakers had a bowl of cherry and a bowl of bluebrry toppings to put on them.  I had a little of both on mine.

Yesterday, my daughter stopped by and before she left she invited me to a picnic on her patio.  It was just her, her husband and me and it was very nice.

Today I have to finish the beets.  I stuck them in the fridge so I could go to the party.

June, you are right!  We ARE blessed with the children God gave us!  And I thank him every day and ask him to make me worthy of them.

AMY, you too are blessed with a special young man!  What your son did for you and me was above and beyond and I loved meeting him.  My family can't stop talking about that!  I told them about the doggy adoption and they think that's great!  Both my daughter's labs are rescue dogs.

Now I better get dressed and get at the beets.  I also have a chicken cooked that has to be picked off the bones.  It's destined to be made in to chicken potpie one of these days.  The Pennsylvania Dutch kind....not the pie kind.

I hope Everyfriend's day is filled with the best of everything and I hope we hear from Joan soon.

Good Morning Everyone!

Well, Amy, Janie, you both made me hungry talking about all the good food and desserts.

The local family was all here last night for supper, we had some bought BBQ, green beans and corn and sour dough bread and a big chocolate, marshmallow cake.   It all went, except for a small piece of the cake.

I have PT this morning, just the two this week and I am finished.  They say they have done all they can do for me.  I guess old age and the bad back is winning.  Hopefully next month when they burn the nerves that will help.  It is not a cure but supposedly if it works it will last for about 8 months.  And I am going to get some cataract surgery done on my right eye which should help my vision.  Golden years, bah....humbug.  Just kidding, the good Lord has been good to me and continues to be good to me.  All I had to do was look around at PT and see some folks that were a lot worst off, physically than I.  Like a neighbor I used to have, who had cancer, said: what's the problem, they cut and I bleed, no problem.

Well coffee should be done, who wants a cup.

Oh, Amy, almost forgot.  My credit union decided after umpteen years to change the name of the credit union.  Cost a bundle and what a name they picked, makes no sense to me: "Credit Human". Go figure.

larryhanna

Hi everyone.  We don't expect to be as hot today as we were yesterday.  We did get a little rain yesterday afternoon and a much higher chance of rain this afternoon.

I just placed an order at Home Depot for a new dehumidifier and will go to the store in a little bit to pick it up.  It will save about $80 by picking it up myself.  I am sure they will load it into the PT Cruiser and if I can't handle it when I get it home I will ask my good neighbor across the street to help me get it out and into the house later this afternoon.  That is all that is on my schedule for today.

Pat did go to Sunday School and Church with me and then we met a couple from our Sunday School class at a restaurant for lunch.  We really enjoyed it.  It turned out to be a pretty exciting golf tournament and another young player now has won a major championship that will forever change his life and the almost $1.9 million dollar first prize will certainly be a nice addition to his bank account.

Hal, we also use our credit card a lot as get a rebate check each year.  I also save on postage by using the online paying of the bills.  When we got the credit card through Costco I had my wife get it in her name.  It is important that she had a credit record and this helps establish it.

deAngel, it sounds like you get a lot of pleasure from your deck.  I hope today finds you feeling better.  It seems like one doctor's appointment leads to another.

JaneS, they probably had the cheesecake during the coffee hour because they sensed that you needed a slice of it.

Gloria, can you just silence your cellphone without having to turn it all the way off.  Glad there wasn't a mechanical problem with your rollator.

Mary Ann, here is a link to a Forbes Magazine article on area codes to avoid taking calls from:  https://www.forbes.com/sites/josephsteinberg/2014/02/01/dont-return-calls-from-these-area-codes-its-a-scam/#36aabbd939d0   There are many legitimate 900 numbers in use today in the USA but caution is always the best policy.

Amy, always enjoyable to meet friends for tea or coffee.  It has been a long time since I had a piece of peach pie.  Hope you enjoyed your time playing in your sewing room yesterday on your day of rest. I doubt you will find one of those battery powered lanterns as I think it was just one of their special items that are not commonly stocked.

June, nice to see that you had a lovely afternoon with Gary and Dori and that Gary got your new phone set up with your contacts.  Glad you followed your instincts not to attend Church is you were feeling like you could pass out.  You sure don't need another fall.

Mary Ann

Amy, a long john is an elongated sweet roll with a filling.  I prefer the lemon custard filling but that isn't always what they have so we take what is available.  Sometimes it has chocolate icing, but again, not always.

Larry, thanks for the link, but I couldn't get there because I have Adblock and I'm not about to disable it.  I wouldn't answer any 900 calls anyway, from the US or elsewhere.  I doubt any of the companies I deal with use the 900 area.

I think we'll have a warm day with plenty of sunshine.  It sounds nice, but we do need rain.  Radar shows some a day or two away, but when storms and rain get to Lake Michigan from the West, they often dissipate and we get nothing.

Grand Haven is always pretty this time of the morning.  The light is coming from the East and the reds are very red.  Later in the day, the sun shifts and there are shadows and things appear darker.

Mary Ann

This is a nice positive thought for the day......

While the world figures this all out, I'm going to continue holding doors for strangers, letting people cut in front of me in traffic, saying please and thank you, saying good morning, being patient with a waiter, and smiling at strangers, as often as I am provided the opportunity. Amen to that, Jenny!  Love it.....

Got to get moving, was up at 3:00 am with a charlie-horse that wouldn't go away, not rubbing or walking, so gave up about 4:00 & headed to the kitchen for breakfast.  TomCat was at the door so joined me & had a snack as well.  I had a hard boiled egg, 2 pieces of toast & mug & half of coffee & went right to sleep.  Been up about an hour & fed 3 cats & kept apologizing  :booboo:  for not having their rotisserie chicken from Sam's Club, so will be there when the first ones come out about 11:30 this morning.  You should have seen the "attitude" they all gave me last night & again this morning.  They weren't exactly starved, each had a tablespoon of Chicken of the Sea salmon & same brand tuna, and about half of a can of Friskies each.  They always have the dry "Friskies Indoor Delight" in their bowls.

Mary Ann, I do enjoy clicking on your link to see Grand Haven, so different what what I see here.

Gloria, isn't there some kind of "age related" person that you could report the abuse of this manager to?  Maybe all sign a petition of some of the extremes she doles out, send to whatever "on your side" person that the state has for our protection.  Send a copy to that person & copy to the owners because they will do something about her rather than bring down state inspections & bad press.

Hope everyone has a Merry Monday (thinking of you, Callie)......

June Drabek

Amy, thank you for your kind welcome. You have made my day start out beautifully. God Bless you !

Good morning to you dear Janie. We are cloudy this morning, strange woman that I am, I love the cloudiness. It is a welcome change from all the sunshine we get, day in and day out.

Hal, good morning to you my friend, and I hope your PT goes well today. I had both eyes surgered several years ago, and the removal still works great. I only use glasses when I do extensive reading. How do they "burn" the nerves in your back?? I never heard of that till now. If it lasts 8 months that's great. Can it be done repeatedly if needed ?  Credit Human ????? vs. what…Credit animal ?

Larry, do be very careful handling that dehumidifier…your health and well being are far more important than a machine. Larry, I am SO thankful for my wonderful children, I just feel like I puff up inside with Joy.

Mary Ann, out here in So. Ca. we can't expect rain till the winter months come and our winters have been extremely dry.

Jenny, a beautiful positive attitude..thanks for sharing, and it is so true. It costs nothing to smile at folks, or reach out and just touch an arm or a hand. We do a lot of that here where I live, since we are all in the similar age group, the need is there, and the cure is given.

Time for me to get on some "walking clothes", and got out and walk in the fresh air. Keep well and happy dear hearts.
As long as we are here, let's dance.

Jenny, I replied an AMEN to your post, then had so much trouble with making it BOLD and in COLOR that I deleted it.  It was only a few words, but I finally gave up.  Usually it is so routine the way I do it and I don't know what happened.  Oh well!

June, we usually have rain at least once a month and I check the radar on the computer to see where we might get some.  But Lake Michigan often does a number on it as it crosses the lake.

On our news this morning was about a fire in Rockford, a small town north of Grand Rapids.  The fire was/is at the Corner Bar, probably the main restaurant in Rockford.  There was an explosion and the fire is still going since last night.  It is a gas leak.  The reason I mention it is that it is a favorite place for people to go, not so much for the bar, but it is a hot dog place.  We've gone there often and it is a "family" place.  It is a big loss for Rockford, but fortunately the owners say they will rebuild.

Shirley, I'm glad you check Grand Haven occasionally.  It is a fun place to go and I'm sorry they don't show more of the beach but you do see a good portion of it.

Mary Ann, where I lived in Mn. we didn't have running water, so we didn't own a garden hose, we depended on rainwater for the gardens and grass. We did have a huge rain barrel, and in one house there was a cistern under the house, and a pump in the kitchen...rainwater, of course. We had a pump outside for drinking water. No indoor plumbing. How spoiled we are now.
As long as we are here, let's dance.

Mary Ann

June, in 1935 we spent the summer at a place on Lake Ripley near Cambridge Wisconsin.  We  had a rain barrel, cistern and pump.  Also an outhouse.  The thing I remember most is there was a pump organ in the house and we all had fun playing it.  We could all read music so the organ was not abused.  The house was a former manse of the Presbyterian Church in Cambridge and my mother and aunts had gone to that church when they lived in Cambridge.  The house was beside the Community Park, but the most outstanding thing was the house was in the cemetery.  We were all young so if there was a funeral, my folks and aunts saw to it that we were not present.  There also was a park bench under my bedroom window and it was not unusual to have someone sit on the bench and talk not realizing someone was in the house.  That was the year Wiley Post and Will Rogers (?) plane crashed in Alaska and I think remains were never found.  There also was a bad motorcycle accident at home to one of Dad's students and we had the newspaper sent so we knew about that.

One thought triggers another.

Mary Ann

June and Mary Ann, I lived a good portion of my growing up years on my Grandfathers small farm.  No running water or indoor plumbing.  a hand pump in the back to pump all water used, for cattle, us and anything else needing water.  I swear you could hear that old pump for a country mile when you were pumping it.  My Grandfather had a set up so you could put lit a rain gutter under the spout on that pump and pump water into the trough for the horses and cows.  No modern conveniences like a cistern on his place, but my Grandparents on my Dads side had one for years till she, my grandmother, got her son to put up a windmill, raised tank and indoor/outdoor plumbing for water of stock and humans.....LOL.
She got rid of the cistern.  June I also remember the big iron kettle in the backyard that the washing was boiled in.  Carried many a load of wood for that thing, not only for washing but other things.  Like you said Mary Ann one memory leads to another.
