Oldiesmann: Finally got the AmazonBot situation under control. I basically changed some server settings to tell AmazonBot that it's not allowed to access anything on the site. That should fix the speed issues we've been experiencing lately

AMY:  Thank you, thank you, I love it!!!!!  Sewing strips will be my next project!!!!!

Thanks all for your uplifting notes.  I am feeling sad about the terrible political rhetoric we are hearing in this country - it can only lead to violence.

Hal:  We use VISA mainly and American Express for groceries (as that has a nicer payback with designated groceries).

Gloria de:  Best wishes to you on your coming doctor appointments.  It will be good to get their educated guesses -

Gloria:  Painting in 3 years sounds like a waste of money.

Mycheal:  What have you been up to lately?

June:  Don is planning a drive to Minnesota and I just wanted to tell you that we will probably be in Spicer on Green Lake first, then off to Duluth, stopping in the cities and down to Faribault . We will both get our Minnesota treat with visiting friends and family.  Do you know a lot of those places?  Where were you when you lived in MN?

Still Morning we had .4" of rain just after 4 AM it is clouding up again now for a second go around. I woke up and couldn't seam to go back to sleep so I got up and started steaming the grapes I picked yesterday. when Nancy got up she started re washing them ( should be clean enough ) that makes three washing's. I washed them on the steams and as i steamed them in a second clean water. she took over and cooked them down ,made the juice. and is now making jelly. that kitchen is not big enough for the two of her scotch Irish temper runs away , so I got out and let here have it. she says enough juice to Make eight paints of jelly. no matter what we can seams i am alright until the hard part is done and then her temper flairs up. Have a great day. I am going to go turn the T V on and fiend a good western movie on you tube.

Subject: Seenager ..

I just discovered my age group!  I am a Seenager. (Senior teenager)
I have everything that I wanted as a teenager, only 50-60 years later.
I don't have to go to school or work.
I get an allowance every month.
I have my own pad.
I don't have a curfew.
I have a driver's license and my own car.
I have ID that gets me into bars and the wine store...  I like the wine store best.
The people I hang around with are not afraid of getting pregnant, they aren’t afraid of anything, they have been blessed to live this long, why be afraid?
And I don't have acne.
Life is Good!  Also, you will feel much more intelligent after reading this, if you are a Seenager...
Brains of older people are slow because they know so much.
People do not decline mentally with age, it just takes them longer to recall facts because they have more information crammed into their brains.
Scientists believe this also makes you hard of hearing as it puts pressure on your inner ear.
Also, older people often go to another room to get something and when they get there, they stand there wondering what they came for.
It is NOT a memory problem, it is nature's way of making older people do more exercise.
SO THERE!
I have more friends I should send this to, but right now I can't remember their names.
So, please forward this to your friends - they may be my friends, too!!

Good afternoon, rained all day yesterday, but warming up to day, suppose to go to the mid 80's

Gloria, I guess we got the same weather report, with warnings about the rip tide.   Of course the surfers enjoy those waves.

Larry, how nice you have heard from Kevin.  Tell him we all miss hearing from him, and wish him well.

I know we will be glad to see a Hi! from Joan

Carol, safe trip to Min know you will enjoy it when you get there.

Jane, hope your late shift went we..

Amy sounds, like the cottage, is lovely.  I find just looking a water, is soothing We use to take a ride down to the ocean, on summer nights and just set and watch the waves.

By the way Hal, I will except that cp of coffee.  No sugar please, just milk

My dad used to make dumplings and they were little clumps of batter and cooked all the way through.  He'd drop the batter in to liquid and they seemed to get a bit larger.  I have his recipe somewhere but I don't cook so I don't know where it is.

Dad was a "by guess and by gosh" cooker and was our main cook after my mother died.  Or I should say he cooked during the week and I did it weekends.  I've forgotten more than I learned.

Mary Ann

halkel

Linedancer, you got it.  Not raining here, but pretty hot, almost 100 so we will have to sit in the den under the a/c...

Mary Ann

Amy, I saw there was a small earthquake in Ontario yesterday, was it anywhere near you?  It was east of where I think you live.  Yes, I know Ontario is BIG!

Mary Ann

June Drabek

Janie, I faded so quickly last night, I forgot to make my goodnight blue. I hope your 3 to 7  hours go happily this evening and you have a safe trip home.

Amy, I wish I could be with you at your friends cottage today. It sounds so inviting ! Privacy and beautiful surroundings. Were you and your husband into building additions as a Job or just a friendly project ?

Gloria, we have no smoking rules here too. Being a Quaker operated community, I am not surprised, but thankfully I quite smoking years back. Watching my brother go through emphysema cured me fast .That  so-called "manager" of yours needs to have been reported long before she thought she owned the place. I'm surprised more people have not moved out. Do you have a choice of other Care places in your city ?

Hal, from what I understand, Gloria says they have a special small building set aside for just smoking, and sometimes Gloria visits friends there, so she may pick up the smell of smoke on her clothing. We have one of those little "smoking buildings" here too, but I have never seen anyone in it. It is out of the way, so I only saw it once.

Larry, I understand. If you have the recliner chairs already, you would not need them of the couch.

Janie, when I still "store" shopped, I did not like the "self checkouts" at all. Nine times out of ten I had to call for help, and it seemed it was one more duty of the customer to handle rather than a friendly checker. It was more a benefit to the store than to the customer.

Carol, sadly enough I don't recognize any of the places you plan to visit in Mn. My parents never owned an automobile, so where we went..we walked. One time a friend of my Mothers took me on a trip to Little Falls to visit her parents, and another friend took us to Minneapolis for a days outing. I lived in a very small town of St. Peter. We had a college, Agustus Adolphus, and a huge mental hospital, that employed many of the residents of St. Peter. A main highway ran from Minneapolis southward. I think it now by-passes St. Peter.  Mankato as the largest town nearest us. St. Peter is close to the Iowa border to the South. It will be a beautiful, scenic trip Carol. I went back just one after years in Ca. and the green greenery took my breath away..such a contrast to So.Ca. Enjoy your journey Carol.

I am having lunch at home today, and I will need to reheat it since I get on this computer and lose track of time. Good think no one is counting on me to be somewhere and do something.

I did go down this morning to Bible study, then home to nap, then here to get lost with all of you. So off I go……………..
As long as we are here, let's dance.

Mary Ann I think your dumplings are great in a well cooked Ham and beans.
we missed the second round of rain except for a light drizzle sun is bright now
but the weather guesser is calling for another round this evening. I came over
to visit with you all and Nancy took my t v over and put the depressing news  on it. I will have to catch her go do somersetting and grab it back she caught me taking a short nap and took it back when I was taking a short eye rest.
have a good rest of the day.

What a perfect day it was.Nice seeing our friends again, weather allowed us to sit out on the deck over looking the lake.Loons serenaded us as we enjoyed the view.

Jane, we had a Mom Pop carpentry business for 15 years after my hubby retired . This was our last big job as RA limited his ability to work.I loved this job,we were met each morning by a bunny, that would sit while I talked to him :) Watched baby loons grow and fawns would make an appearance at times too.

MaryAnn, I didn't even know there was one....will have to check that out. I know a few years back be had one that shook the house but all was fine.

Gloria De, I love the water, today was a little choppy but still nice. Yes, it is so soothing. One of my friends has a house by a babbling stream and I  enjoy sitting outside and listening to it too.

Thought I had best come in and see how everyone is getting along.

I almost did not stop because it was dark, then I saw HAL.

I sure wish you could have us all over to enjoy your chicken pot pie, JANE.  I know I would love it.  My maternal great-grandmother was Pennsylvania Dutch so I am aware of this kind of pot pie.  One time when we were living in Germany a couple had us over for chicken pot pie.  Boy was I shocked to see a PIE being served, as I was used to the soup kind.

Thank you, JEANNE LEE, for the link that allowed us to see the recipe and the pictures to see how this pot pie looks.

JUNE, the wedding sure sounded like it was a nice one and it was good that they shared the pictures with everyone.

When will you be leaving on your drive to Minnesota, CAROL?

GLORIA, I think the manager of your home must be related to the owner.  How else could she possibly be that inconsiderate and still keep her job?  I am sorry that you have to have the old bag in to inspect your place!  I am happy you appreciated my thoughts and you agree.  We sure need more than ever to treat our fellow man the way we would like to be treated.

GLORIA de.  I hope you are feeling stronger each day and that your doctor thinks you are doing much better as well.

JANE, happy to read that your shift went better tonight and that you did not feel so worn out.  How nice that your SIL is taking care of your lawn now for you.  No problem for you to turn out the lights, as you know I am not that trustworthy to come in and make sure they are turned off.

SHIRLEY, I will leave the small light on the table lite for you, just in case you make it in tonight.

LARRY, I guess your dehumidifier is working well to pull that much water out of the air.  Sure hope Scott can get the hose connected for you.  I am sorry the new tablet has problems and you will have to send it back.

I wish you all a pleasant night of rest.  Special thoughts and prayers for you, JOAN.  Sure hope you will be back to join us soon.

Good morning everyone..

Off to meet our new Dr. today..then onto the city for dental work.

Hal, I refuse to use those check outs as they will do away with jobs for people and I love going through a check out and talking with the person. Same with banking, I like to meet the cashier.  If I have any complaints I am going to look funny standing at a machine and giving it the dickens. Guess, I am just old fashioned.

Better get a move on here.

Enjoy your day everyone..

Good Morning Everyfriend! Right now it's only 59º and only supposed to get up into the low 80s today with rain expected in the late afternoon.

Hal, I read your article and I think my store is safe at least until this old lady is retired.  There are an awful lot of people who do not like the self checkouts and and who refuse to use them.  I hope they never have to get used to them.

AMY, I can't imagine your telling off a real, live cashier so telling off a machine is certainly not in your future.  And when I see what the gals and guys who work the self checks do all day, I think their jobs are safe.

We're in wait time for Annie's pill so when our time is up, we'll have breakfast.  I have no plans for today but I might do a load or two of launday.  And, maybe I'll change the bed a day or two early.  I'm going to do whatever I feel like doing today.

I hope the rest of you will do whatever suits your fancy today.

JENNY, thanks for taking care of the lights last night!

I have used the self-checkout for one or two items rather than wait in line for a cashier, but I can't imagine checking out a cart of groceries at a self-checkout.

I think what we used to have must have been similar to Jane's Chicken Pot Pie only our was probably called Chicken and Dumplings.  My paternal grandmother was of German heritage and my dad would have learned to cook from her.  That's one of the few things I remember about eating in my childhood - that and my mother's lemon meringue pie.  Mother was of English heritage and I have usually thought the English were not very imaginative in their cooking.  We always ate and ate well, but nothing memorable.  I do know that every Sunday we had a big meal, maybe roast or chicken, potatoes, vegetables, salad and dessert.  Then we ate off the Sunday meat for a few days.  Very simple.

I remember some mistakes in some of the cooking like Mother trying to make an angel food cake only it fell out of the pan while cooling so we put ice cream in the remains and had that for dessert.  Then there was the time Dad went to put chocolate sauce on a dessert only the sauce was gravy.  And the time I made a chocolate cake that fell in the center.  Mother checked the recipe and it had a disproportionate amount of baking soda in the recipe (and tasted of soda too).  Mother tore up the recipe so we would not use it again.  Things like that.

Mary Ann

JaneS

MARY ANN, my grandmother with her Scottish/Irish background made dumplings.  They were NOTHING like the pot pie noodles that my grandfather (German background) made.  You would not have found dumplings in my grandfathers pot pie (Bott Boi in the German).  He would have thrown a fit heard from Pennsylvania all the way to Germany.

Dumplings were probably the only food I didn't have to eat when I was a kid.  I would put a bite in my mouth and it would gag me.  I always thought I was going to throw up.  I didn't because they didn't make me eat any more of it.  My grandmother used to say, "I don't know why she can't eat it.  It's good food."  And it probably is but not to me.  And everyone raved over my grandmother's dumplings.

Hi everyone. We are in for another day with over 95 degree temperature and little chance of rain.  I did water my yard this morning.

We had a very pleasant surprise yesterday afternoon when the phone rang and it was Chape and Beverly on their way to Vermont.  It was a pleasant, although brief visit and much appreciated.  We did meet Scott and Jenifer for our big evening meal at Diablo's Tex Mex restaurant and had another delicious meal.  We then came back to the house and talked for awhile and then they and Pat played several games of Farkle, which they have started doing each Wednesday evening they are here.

It is going to be a pretty busy day for me today.  I have to get the defective new computer boxed up and dropped off at the UPS store, which is on our way down to coffee.  After I spoke to the customer service (an actual human) he sent me a mailing label and after checking out the unit for themselves they will send me another computer.  After I return my friend back to the assisted living facility following coffee I will go back downtown to Aldi's to restock the pantry.  Our Wisdom group is not meeting today as the Minister took a few days of well earned vacation.  We are going to have a salad supper, which is easy to do and is tasty.

Jane, glad you provided further information on your pot pie as it sounds a bit like the chicken and homemade noodles we often had when I was growing up although the dough wasn't a pie crust type of dough.  I am sure I would like your pot pie.  Maybe I am losing it but I thought someone here mentioned their Walmart had done away with the self-checkout stands.  Sometimes there are long lines at the regular checkout stands and I will use the self-checkout.

Amy, I just sent Pat the link for the quilt site you shared.  Thanks. I bet your day at the lake whizzed by.  It sounds like you had a great time and a nice break from the normal routine.

Carol, sometimes I think sewing strips after doing a lot of cutting is what Pat does most of the time when she feels up to doing sewing.  She is using her Singer Featherweight a lot as it is handy and she doesn't have to go upstairs to use her other sewing machine. Our country certainly is in turmoil.  I have to wonder who is financing all of the protesters who seem to be able to be amassed at a moments notice.

Lloyd, it sounds like you are a wise man to know when to leave the kitchen.  Our kitchen work area, while certainly ample, really doesn't accommodate two people very well. You should have some really good grape jelly. I can hardly stand to watch the news anymore and Pat said this morning she needs to watch it much less, especially in the morning.

deAngel, I will try to remember to pass your comments regarding Kevin on to him.

June, having the individual recliners let us each have our own table beside them and they are used a lot.  I have also often experienced the need for help at the self-checkout but the attendant is always helpful and pleasant.

Jenny, so far we are very pleased with the new humidifier.  It is much better than the one my friend loaned us as sit was very noisy.

halkel

Good Morning Everyone!

Well I am washed up, brushed up and ready for bible study and mens breakfast.  Then my last PT is at 11 after bible study.
Janie, Amy, I don't think cashiers will be going anywhere soon.  To many people are like "us" don't want to use a self checkout.  I have tried when I have like one item and the lines are long, especially at Lowes and I always screw it up and have to be rescued by the standby chasier.....LOL

Got to get a move on, I shouldn't be on here.  But had to see how my other family was faring.

Carol

June:  We will be going to St. Peter as well, staying in Mankato where son-in-law made a reservation for us.   :)  One grandson goes to Gustavus Adolphus and we haven't seen the campus in years so this will be a treat. Don had a cousin & her two daughters once lived in St. Peter.  This is a lot of visiting and I just hope we can keep on keeping on.

Two Rescue Squads and a Sheriff came to the neighborhood yesterday - and two packs of coyotes were just echoing in the ravine.  It was so loud.  Our dear friend had fallen and his wife needs hand surgery so she is unable to help.  My job is to call  friends.  We just stay out of the way of the rescue squad.  They are superb at their job and we have absolutely great care from them - never needed at our house.

well I do not know what to say. but Hals articular wore me out reading it
(so long) but very truthful. I still say plenty of jobs and work for people that will work.  one has to take pride in oneself. a few years back when I was hauling produce to government facility's. there was a small restaurant across the street where we loaded. our trucks were loaded with fork trucks pallets full of produce. so while they were doing that we drivers would go over there and eat. as I was leaving one day a man approached me and asked for some money. I told him no but come in here and I will buy you a meal, he followed me in , I told Jane the water give him either of the specials he wanted told her I would pay for it tomorrow when i came back so would not have to write another check. she said ok and he picked the one of two, I left and went on to fort Lenard wood, when I got back next day. I went over to eat and asked her how it went. she said he ate about two bites and asked her for the money it cost.she said NO. he left with foul words as he went. we surmised he was a wino wanting money for cheep wine,as the saying goes can lead a mule to water but cant make him drink ( in this case eat). Have a great day.

Good morning dear friends. I was up and medicated at 6 a.m.,fell back to sleep till 7. Then got up, pushed the button that tells the clinic I am up and well. Stuck my bag of trash outside my door..any day of the week that has a T in its title is trash day. Then back to bed to do all my massage and leg and arm exerises. That takes about a half hour. Next comes coffee and Prayer time, about another half hour, then it is on to the computer..I have read all the  good messages, so will yak back atcha.

If stores try to force us into checking ourselves out we can boycott them. It is our money and if we don't give it to them they will be out of business. People can go back to gardening and canning like so many of our good ladies still do. Let the Mom and Pop stores go into business again. America is supposedly "the land of the free and the home of the brave", and it is up to those of us who have lived those words to see that America remains that way.

My eyes are taking over the day now and they want me to kick back in the recliner and rest and read if necessary. I will return.
As long as we are here, let's dance.

Gloria

Good morning everyone, nice cool night to sleep, still down in the mid 50's now.

HAL  she is a bitter woman and really not the type who can get along with older people like those living in this building. She is still renting to new people who smoke. One lady was in the hospital and rehab for 3 months and the day she came home the witch had an eviction notice served to her. Smart gal, she got a lawyer and is not going to move. Think I should look for one and accuse her of harassing me? At times the trash pick up here is the same. Some mornings much too early and other times it is noon before they are here.

LARRY  good luck to Pat at the pain clinic. Wish her better luck than I had. The witch took pictures of every thing, under one of my pictures on the wall, even light switches. They are all yellow from smsoking. The walls are painted an almond color and the electric plates match the walls, they are not white. I have often wondered what happened to Kevin. I enjoyed his telling us about the Isle of Man.

JANE  I believe I would like those wide noodles on the pot pie a lot more than a dumpling.

AMY  hope you had a great day at the lake.

CAROL  according to the withch everything will have to be washed before painting and we will be charged $5,000. She is crazy. My son who has done a lot of that said no more than $200 with a good paint. We think she needs some money in a hurry.  One apartment was painted 2 years ago from a flood from ice melting on the roof because she thought a foot of ice would go away.

LLOYD  love the Seenagers.

GLORIA de  it was odd seeing so many at the ocean here on their surfboards. Looked like a traffic jam, don't know how they kept from bumping into each other.

JUNE  this is a small town and this is not a Care place but Senior housing, no one under 65 in the building.

JENNY  as long as she saves the owners money they like her. I hope she is treated when she gets old the way she treats the renters here.

AMY  like you I wanted to see the cashier  or the teller. I always went about the same time and they get to know you. I liked that, especially at the bank.

JANE  I never used those checkouts at the market. I never saw many using them either. I rather stand in line and wait for a person, not a machine. My 2 year old great grandson will eat most every thing but if he does not like the texture of something new he will not eat it.

LARRY  I really watch the local news, national and international news can get anyone depressed. My AC has a dehumidifier setting and I use that more than the AC setting. It keeps the air drier and cools at the same time.
