Sandy, glad to hear that Maggie doesn't have MS.  She is the 3rd person I've heard of the last few years that were diagnosed with MS & then doctors decided that was NOT what they had.  Almost life changing in their cases.

Larry, I did understand that it was EKG June was talking about but figured since she mentioned "valve" problem, she probably meant the Echo.  I've had quite a few EKGs & so far none have proved anything...... long ago I learned how to calm my speedy heart and relax so the test didn't/doesn't cause them to go over the top with treatments.  I knew I couldn't do anything about the valve but also know my body won't handle meds to control a crazy heart.  I would imagine June has had both types of tests but wanted to reassure her that the Echo was not invasive.  I agree it takes a while longer than EKG & more icky stuff to clean off after, but not anything like a heart cath!  I have marveled at your daily endurance & cheer you on with your efforts to keep as strong as possible.  This has not been an easy few years with all the family crisis you & Pat have gone through.  Pain of watching a child suffer and losing them really does make our hearts break, you are one tough dude.  My husband had a degree to teach Industrial Arts but not the temperament to teach, but he loved building all his life and had a project going all the time.  We even built a house, every nail & board, from roof to stem walls, 2600 sq.ft..  No education is ever a waste!

Lloyd, so sorry about your cousin.  Very hard to let go of our childhood "family".  I expect having the same birthday y'all were closer that most cousins.

Hal, been watching this storm... almost holding my breath since every news has a different version of how bad it can be and where it will do most damage.  My youngest son flies in & out of Houston all the time, hope he is not there this week.  Hope you & all your family are safe.

Oh, ICK, Jane, I've only had one of those critters delivered to the door for a long time.  Used to be often as old LaurenKat thought she had to fetch breakfast for Cas.   :-\

Amy, I can imagine both you & your husband woke up with a feeling of peace this morning after your good news yesterday.  I am so happy for you.

Gloria, the cooler weather spoiled me but the heat & humidity are back today, winter can't come soon enough.  I hope the road side stands are open my next trip to CO, still have not had a home grown tomato to compare with what my father used to grow.  How are the "pot" gardens growing for your daughter?  Are they having trouble with heat?  When we lived in Western Kansas the worst part was NO trees for shade.

Tom & Tiger will be getting up from their naps & I'd better catch a few zzzzzzs before feeding them again.  Mama Callie did not show up for breakfast so a little concerned about her.  Happens now & then, I figure she's been trapped in someone's garage & will escape when they get home.  She loves to spend the day in a garage & can sneak in without me knowing.  Think she like being fly free~

Hey, June, guess you did mean EKG.... I've had them roll small units in the room for me, in fact, that happened when I went to the clinic to have them check for pneumonia.  I was not happy about them insisting on EKG when all I wanted was for them to listen to my lungs!!!  :tickedoff:

JaneS

Taking a short break before supper.  My daughter and granddaughter have left to drive to the town where they used to live to have dinner with daughter's former boss and very good friend.  They will be back to spend the night and then have breakfast and lunch with me.  After that, I'm not sure what they are doing.  Sometime during the morning or early afternoon, they will be spending time with my son who is this daughter's twin.  He is also the father of TLH and she and Frankie (granddaughter are good friends.

OK, I'm ready to stop talking and see if the soup's hot.  Enjoy your evening, Everyfriend!

Another lovely day here.I managed to not do a lot too!!

Sandy, thank you and  I enjoyed reading your good news  and a weight lifted off of you and your family. LOVE hearing good news :)

Larry thank you, I will keep her in mind.

Carol, I think I know the pattern you are talking about. Hope you can post a photo when done. I love the photo of Fe with the spaghetti. Would love to watch how they film that, little hands going every which way in it lol

Lloyd, I too am sorry to read about your cousin. Condolences to you and your family.

Shirley, thank you, can I say a huge weight has been lifted......and it feels so good!!!

Hal, prayers your way, please stay safe!.

Tisie, the folks in our clinic are still checking out to see if the Ins. will cover the entire cost of having the EKG done here, and since it is Friday, the Ins. Co. had closed. I told them downstairs that it really makes no difference to me if I do not have it done. They can't cure what I have wrong, so why go through the whole procedure and see the cost of Ins. covered tests rise more all the time, which is why Ins. is out of the roof now......too many Drs. recommending tests that do not cure...only give the Drs. information. The R.N.'s downstairs understand my thinking completely, so I am not alone.

The sun has broken our of the cloud cover, but it won't get too hot at this hour of the day.
As long as we are here, let's dance.

I am praying that God is keeping a loving watch over all who are in danger of the storm this night and also in the days to come.Good Night dear hearts.
As long as we are here, let's dance.

Good morning everyone..

Woke up to the sounds of loons and hubby had the furnace going, not a sound I like to hear so early in the season.
Laundry day today and get a few other chores done too.
Hope everyone in the path of Harvey is safe.

Lloyd, your apples sound delicious!!! Red hots would also give them a nice colour too!

Better get a move on here

Enjoy your day everyone..

Good morning Everyfriend!  I'm having a very good visit with my daughter, Christy and my granddaughter Frankie.  They spent the night last night and I'm waiting for them to get up now.  I expect it will be a while.  They took some time last evening to visit a friend and didn't get home until after 10.  We have some plans for today and I hope everything works out before they have to leave.  Frankie returns to Florida on Sunday.

In the meantime, we are all pretty worried about my Texas granddaughter.  She and her husband live in Houston and they are supposed to get some of the high winds and heavy rain.  My daughter, her mother, says that Houston is susceptible to flooding because of a river that flows right through the city.  Please say a little extra prayer for Natalie and Clint.

LLOYD, I use cinnamon red hots to flavor my applesauce when I make it.  You're canned apples sound goooood!

I wish you all a good day filled with whatever pleases you most.

Good Morning Everyone!

Well Harvey finally arrived here in San Antonio and so far it is not causing any problems around my house.  Gusty winds and some rain.

Janie, Last night, haven't heard the news this morning, they said Houston may take a direct hit from Harvey and you are right, if they get all the rain they were talking about, lots of flooding.  Houston is in swamp country.  I am wondering about some of my family that lives in Corpus Christi, they choose to ride it out and the last time we talk to them last night they were doing fine.  They lost power almost immediately yesterday, seems like even before things got to going good.
We will check on them this morning.

Lloyd, no nibbling, apples or candy......

Hi everyone. We are seeing the sun this morning but will be partly cloudy throughout the day with a high in the low 90's.

I stayed home all day yesterday but this morning will definitely go to Costco for about 9 different items.  Pat is going to the Church this morning as the ladies are doing the pillow ministry this morning.  This is a project they each year to make pillows for people fighting cancer.  Last year they made well over 200 in about 90 minutes and will do the same this morning.  They have a good group of women and they have it set up so it is very efficient.

I am looking forward to watching the golf this afternoon as it is a close match and Jordan Spieth and several others are tied for the lead.  Next Saturday the College football season starts.

Sandy, what wonderful news for Maggie after a year of concern.

June, what is a St. Francis garden?  The two crossword puzzles I work daily are online and if I make a mistake I get a red rather than black letter.

Hal, I am no weatherman but it looks like San Antonio is just on the edge of Harvey but it sounds like you all will still have a lot of rain.  Glad to see your posting this morning.  Stay dry!

Shirley, I apologize for not understanding your postings.  Perhaps our discussion of EKG's  and Echo will help others understand what is involved. Fortunately I have never had any valve problems.  Years ago the EKG's used little suction cups and goop to hold them on your skin.  The peel off patches they have now on the leads sure are an improvement. My father built a house for his parents and was a jack of all trades.  I certainly didn't inherit that from him.  That was a big house your husband build and I bet you were a big help to him in the project.

Jane, was this your daughter and granddaughter that live in Texas that has been visiting you?  I bet you will be keeping on eye on the weather in the Houston area.  Sure hope Natalie and Clint are now close to any of the flooding areas.

Lloyd, it has been a long time since I had any of those candied apples made with red hots.  You are lucky to have apples trees as a source of your apples as they sure are expensive in the store.

Amy, it is early to start heating but if you are cold you are cold and I expect your husband is very sensitive to cold with all the treatments he has had.  Hope you don't have to work too hard today.

Gloria

Good morning everyone. My thoughts and prayers are with those along the Texas coast especially. I am watching TV and I hope all our friends and families are safe and stay safe.
It was another night to have a blanket on the bed but oh so good for sleeping. Landscappers did a good job yestrerday. There are many different bushes in fromt of the bulding and they were getting terrible looking. Now they are all trimmed and neat again and all the weeds around the flowers are gone. They have not been on top of things this summer. One person here said that maybe the witch had no paid them. Last 2 days we have had 2 new people move in. One lady in moving into a duplex her daughter and SIOL bought, one side for her and they will be on the other. She will move on the 28th and a new person move in on the first. Does not give the maintenance man much time to get the apartment ready. He used to have 2 weeks.

HAL  I pray you and your family stay safe.

LARRY  I did not realize I had not posted the pother day. Feeling miserable I could not even tell you what I did that day. I will be getting a Tens machine. She has arranged for one after she saw how my back is. I got a call yesterday telling me they would be sending it. Most likely next week it will get here. The PT gal told me to call her when it gets here. I do remember how good I felt when I had  a tens used when I had sciatica years ago. Will take all the relief I can get. Like you and others in here I was on the go from the minute I got out of bed till I went back to bed at night.  I get so discouraged at times because there is so little I can do now.

JUNE  the PT  should nelp keep me limber to a certaain extent, I do not think the back pain will ever go away.

CAROL  I have some exercises for my back but one is making my hip feel worse so she told me to only do a couple of them till everything gets used to it.

SHIRLEY  like you I am loooking forward to the end of September when we should have no more hot humid days. Think you and I are the only ones who like winter better. My daughter's garden is doing better since they put shade cloth over it. Sun was burning every thing. She planted sweet potatoes in different types of containers so will take some time yet to see how they do. She bought some kind of tomato plants with Hawaiian in the name, supposed to tolerate the sun and heat better. Not too big but tasty and almost purplish inside. One neighbor had no luck with cukes this year so she shared with them. Another neighbor had no luck with zucchini and summer squash so she shared with him. He has chickens and gi8ves them fresh eggs. When they moved in in October he gave them some carrots. Love how those who live there think about each other, share and help when needed. This town was like that when I moved here amost 69 years ago. Sure changed when the mills closed and the old timers moved on and city people started moving in. This was a quiet friendly place but they wanted all the things they had in the city.  I am so happy for her and my SIL that they love the life they always wantted. Their oldest son loves it there, too. The younger one likes the city life.

JANE  always great to have family visit. Next year my older son and DIL are hoping to drive to Arizona and visit with Regina and then head to California to visit my DIL's sister and family who live there now. Will be different than taking their yearly cruise.

JUNE  I cancelled the last appointment I had with the pain doctor. Why keep getting shots that did not work. I figured he was just bleeding the insurance company. Then again he might hit another nerve and mess up my right leg like he did my left one.

LLOYD  apples are not ready for picking here for another week or so. I will miss my son's apples this year. The gypsy moth caterpillers last year and this year killed abour half his trees.

AMY  it was 50° here when I got up this morning. Got my warm robe on and it felt good. With the sun shining in a clear blue sky it is warmed up fast.

JANE  I have been saying prayers for those in Texas in the path of the hurricane. I always thing that those who refuse to leave their home when told to evacuate are foolish. If their house is damaged by winds or is flooded there is nothing they can really do.

HAL  you and your family are being prayed for. I know what it is like to live through a hurricane but never lived near the coast where it is usually worse.

Larry, I didn't read the entire article but a headline in the local news said that apple growers in Michigan expect smaller crops this year.  Our area is a big apple growing area.

I turned on the TV weather this morning, something I do not usually do but I wanted to see how Hal's area is doing.  Was it last year that Houston had such bad floods?  The Weather Channel said at the time that because Houston was so flat and so much concrete for roads and parking lots that they were prone to flooding.  I do remember that Hal wrote he lives on a hill so should not be too affected - rain, yes, flood, no.

The sun is shining in Grand Rapids, far from Harvey at present but I am sure some of the rain will make its way north.

Mary Ann

halkel

Gloria, Mary Ann, doing okay here.  Wind has picked up and so has the rain.  Talked to my family in Corpus Christi and they are okay.  Said they lost so shingles on their roof but no other amage they know of andnoflooding yet.

Harvey has stalled now and just sitting and spinning and they are expecting it to stay stalled till Sunday then start its move back to the coast and possibly Houston.  Mary Ann Houston was built in the swamps, of course they call them bouoys (sp).

Mary Ann

Hal, I see where you are getting rain now.  I can see if the inner part of Houston is kind of paved over, with swamps or bayous (the word you wanted) around them, flooding would most certainly occur.  They're showing damage in the hurricane area now.

I'm glad you are safe.

Good to see some Texans checking in on this storm day.

We volunteered after Hurricane Rita to work on a damaged house in Port Arthur and it was a chore worth while.  Now, they look like they have flooding once again.  Lots of stories and there was no help from the locals but all of us felt like we accomplished helping.

Don stopped our Comcast for good.  The price isn't worth it for what we receive and he found a little and cheap way to get good reception anyway.

Has anyone heard from Joan?

.Not a good day for me, very tired….no pains or aches, just out of it……things I want to do, but not an ounce of energy

Larry, there is an area of ground outside the windows of a group of apartments, mine included with a huge pine tree, flowering bushes, a grassy area and in the center of this area is a circular garden of flowering bushes, with a statue of St. Francis in its center….hence the St. Francis Garden.

Gloria, I do hope the PT is helpful to you. Is it something you can keep doing on your own eventually ?

I have a feeling I will miss Church tomorrow, unless God gives me a boost between now and then. My day of rest has not done much good, and there are things I want to get done…darn it ! Whatever will be, will be.

As long as we are here, let's dance.

JaneS

We have an area within the grounds of our church called the St. Frqancis Garden.  Typically, a garden honoring St. Francis of Assisi is one dedicated to feeding God's creatures.  They frequently have flowers and herbs that birds and small animals enjoy eating.  Our's does that and it is also a final resting place for the ashes of church members.  My sister's ashes are in our St. Francis Garden and mine will be near hers when my soul leave this earth.  There are benches and stone walkways so that people can visit with God and their departed family members.  It's quite restful there.  And it's nice to know that not only God watches over us...so does St. Francis.

LARRY, the daughtr who was visiting me today lives in Frederick, MD and her daughter lives in Florida.  They have gone back to my daughter's home and Frankie will be returning to FLorida tomorrow.

Good night Everyfriend!  I'm off to bed.  There's another busy day tomorrow.  Sleep peacefully and may God bless us, every one.

Good night or morning to all!

It is late, but I just had to stop in and see how EVERYFRIEND is doing.

We have just finished watching our taped Broncos Game.  We stopped to do dinner then watched the Mayweather vs McGregor fight.  I am bushed!

Today we went on a nice adventure.  It was crunch time to get me a Federal Park Pass.  I thought it was the 31st of the month, but found out it is the 27th.  The only place we could find in the metro area to buy one was at The Rocky Mountain Arsenal National Wildlife Refuge.  It was a bit of a drive for us as we live way South and this place is in the way North.  It was well worth the dive as we drove through the entire reserve and I not only got my pass, but I qualified for a disability pass so I got it for free.  Bob has had his Federal pass for several years.

I have not see anything on Face Book about our Biz.  I do hope she is getting stronger every day and can get back to her home soon.

Sleep well.

Good morning Everyfriend!  We've been up a little while and are currently waiting out Annie's pill time before we have breakfast.

Jenny, those passes can be obtained on line also.  When we were going to Grand Canyon, I sent for mine.  If you are planning to use it you need to allow plenty of time to get it back if you order on line.  I think it took almost 2 monrhs for mine to come.  Of course, you don't get the beautiful scenery when you order on line!

I have an appointment with my chiropractor at noon today and she's a bit of drive away.  But I pass 3 Amish stores on my way to and from so I'm going to make it a day.  And she's definitely worth the drive.  She's not a regular chiropractor.  She's called an APPLIED KINESIOLOGIST.  There's no snapping of bones and when she's finished, you have this awsome feeling.

I better get at my chores or I won't be ready when it's time to leave.  I have a few things to take care of and I can get started before it's time to feed the doggies.

Have a wonderful day....

JOY, if you're looking in, let us know you're OK.

Hi everyone. It is another beautiful morning in the mid-70's and headed to the upper 80's this afternoon.  Today will be our usual Sunday schedule with Sunday School, Church, out to lunch, rest and then watching Golf later this afternoon.

Yesterday morning I took Pat to the Pillow Ministry sewing session and then went on to Costco.  I came home and put everything away and got the hamburger wrapped in small packages and into the freezer.  At noon I went back to the Church and picked her up.  After resting I caught the last three hours of the 3rd round of the golf tournament.  Nothing exciting but it turned out to be an enjoyable day.  Yesterday evening we watched a most interesting program on PBS called the Queen's Garden.  It was all about the gardens at Buckingham Palace that have been there for well over 100 years and how interested the Queen is in it.  The time lapse photography of the beautiful flowers and the commentary was so interesting.

Gloria, I sure hope the Tens machine brings you a lot of relief.  We had to send the one back we bought recently as it didn't work.  We haven't reordered.  It sounds like your daughter is learning a lot about gardening in Arizona.  Nice of her to share her garden produce with her neighbors.

Mary Ann, a smaller apple crop isn't good as apples are already pretty expensive and the farmer have great income loss.  I just now turned on the Weather Channel and they are covering the disaster in Houston. One of their reporters was in a high rise and showed pictures from his window where the water was up to the top of the small trees and the first floor of the building was flooded up to the beginning of the 2nd floor level.  There is so much more rain expected it sort of staggers one's imagination.

Hal, I bet you are glad you live in San Antonio and not Houston.  Hope your area continues avoid serious damage.  I see you are still in for from 5 to 9 inches more of rain and Houston can have up to 2 feet more of rain.

Sandy, those carts are so handy and much easier than carrying grocery bags.

Carol, I haven't seen anyone post saying there was any new news concerning Joan.

June, hope you are feeling a bit more peppy today.  Thanks for explaining the St. Francis garden.  I bet it is beautiful and a nice view from your apartment.

Jane, your St. Francis Garden sounds lovely also. I was attending meetings at an Augusta Episcopal Church and one day they were having a funeral and were apparently putting ashes in their inter court garden.  I bet theirs is a St. Francis Garden also.  Thanks for the info on where your daughter and granddaughter live.

Jenny, I heard that the boxers would make something like 100 million dollars apiece for that one fight.  I see that Merriweather won and is retiring with a 50-0 win/lose record.  I got one of those National Part Passes the last time we were in Colorado and was surprised to get it free when I presented my handicapped hanger.  I have no idea what happened to that pass and haven't needed it since that trip.

Jane, hope you get a lot of relief from the Kinesiologist.  You are fortunate to have access to the Amish markets.

Lloyd, Happy Birthday and hope you have an enjoyable day with your family and special meal.  Congrats on the weight loss.

Amy, it sounds like you made your ribs like Pat does with slow cooking in the oven using a spice rub.

Thanks everyone. good I have made another year, but the big meal that I know will be here today will be hard for me to stay on the trend of loosing the weight i need to get rid of.

Jane,   Hello back to you !  I saw your little mention of me this morning, and do want to let you know that I am still around.

I know I have been MIA for a while.  Nothing wrong,  just have not been posting much anywhere,  I get so carried away at times, that I just forget and go on to the next site.

But, I thank you for asking about me.  I will try to keep better in touch.  Nice to be missed.

Nothing spectacular happening in my neck of the woods.  Same old thing, day in and day out.  I read a lot and also nap, a lot.   My get-up-and-go has disappeared for some reason.

Hope all will have a nice Sunday.

I'm back from church & McDonalds with the crew.... I sure do enjoy these Sunday mornings!

Hal, not sure if I mentioned finding a little notebook left by my father's father, of a trip to Houston/Galveston area.  His opinion of the "swampy Houston & Galveston and how marshy the land was, not good for any type farming".... he noted the price of a peck of potatoes & various other produce.  I think I gave the notebook to my oldest son, but should have kept a copy for myself to to giggle about his lack of vision for the land.   ;)  Since he died in 1937, I don't remember when he made the trip or why.... possibly buying right of way for the railroad.  He was a telegrapher but could be he did other jobs as well, nobody to ask anymore.  Stay dry!

Joy so glad to see you check in, was concerned.  I understand "lazy".... have a corner on that market myself.   :-[

Gloria, do the kids have solar or wind "back up"?  Was wondering if they get the winds that would make it difficult to keep the sun shades in place.  Sounds like they found a great place to retire (& work), and good neighbors.  My mother always said, "you have to be a good neighbor to have one"..... I envy them their adventure.

:hb2: :hb3: Happy Birthday, Lloyd  :hb3: :hb2:  Go ahead & enjoy the food your family is fixing for you, after all, those birthdays come only once a year & you can lose weight all but ONE day.

Good afternoon, on quite a cool day.  Could down to 40 to night in the Pine Barons. I will enjoy the Fall, but not ready for winter.

A friend has offered to take me grocery shopping, i have not been in over a week.  I get some excise walking with the shopping basket helps, as I can hold on to that and walk.  I give my friend half my list and she shops,  I pick up some of the stuff i want to see, before I buy.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY LOYD, AND MANY MORE.

Joy, good to see your post. I am like you, I come in and read a few times aday, but do not always post, as I have nothing to say.

I go Wed. for my ultra sound on my legs,  Doctor said STAT, but this was all they could give me.  I thought I was going last week.

I also have been watching the weather channel.  I cannot imagine so much water.  I pray that all our cyber friends families are safe.
