Rainy Saturday morning here, and I was up to watch my World Cup favorite...Portugal... get beat by Morocco.  Another surprise in the tournament.

Just finishing up laundry and awaiting football, I guess...or a quiet afternoon of reading while it drips outside.

Lots of flu and covid floating around here.  Nursing home is quarantined again.

Stay safe and healthy,

jane

maryz

I tested negative last night. Fortunately, I didn't have any major symptoms, but the malaise and lack of energy/appetite has been debilitating. I'm going to stay in my rooms all day today, too, but will try going to the dining room tomorrow. I'm sure I'll have to stop and rest several times on the way there.  I'll count my blessings, though, that I wasn't any sicker.

Hi buddies...we had our first light freeze thus morning...and my allegeries are bothering me with a very dry nose...guess I will run my humidifier tonight..see if that helps...I'm almost done with my gift shopping...thank goodness...MaryZ..so glad you are feeling better...lots of flu in my area..Jane,,hope you are able to avoid getting it...Idont go out much same as you...Hi to all looking it...stay well and safe

jane

Mary...glad you tested negative.  A former co-worker is on Day 17 of Covid...still very sick with burning mouth and throat and cough.  She's been to the ER once...dehydrated, etc.  Take care of yourself, Mary!

Darlene...watch out for the ice.  Far worse than snow, I think, for walking and driving.

My snow girl told me she would be gone over holiday break...got the dates this morning from her mother and contacted my yard man who does snow stuff in winter, and asked him to add me to his list  for the dates she's gone.  I need my driveway clear when I come home the 28th and my sidewalks kept clear per city ordance.

I'm very relieved I got that covered.  I just can't do that anymore.

Stay safe and healthy,

jane

I tested negative, but have been totally enervated since. I went to the dining room once, and it just exhausted me. I've pretty much been in my chair since then - getting meals in my room and sleeping a lot.  This will pass soon, I hope.

Oh, I hope so, too, Mary!
That is how I have felt ever since I got home from hospital over a month ago.   I do not have Covid, though.  Congestive Heart Failure.

jane

Oh, Mary and Mary Page...energy seems to have escaped me, too. Doing a few things wears me out...or I'm just lazy! :coolsmiley:

With the coming blizzard and 50 mph winds, I canceled my trip to my sister's.  I'm not up to spending nights trying to sleep in an airport...esp. Chicago's O'Hare.  My anxiety level over that was hitting the top of the chart, so after talking to my sister several times, I canceled the flight, etc.  I just want to be here at home with my aching body and heating pad.  There's too much flu and covid to be mingling about in a huge airport, even with a mask.

Stay safe and warm and healthy.  It's 1 degree right now and will be going down as snow approaches and the winds.

Merry Christmas,

jane

Dropping in to say good morning, and I hope everyone is having a good one! It's minus 39 here, actually a warmup from the past few days so I'll stay a couch potato for now with a blanket close at hand.

Good afternoon from sunny southern California !  It is 65f now & is forcast to be 79F on Christmas  day .  It is suppose to
be 42F tonight .
I got a new pair of glasses , went for an adjustment yesterday .  I wore them for a bit yesterday & got a headache so will try to wear a bit every day so my eyes can get use to the new prescription .

jane

Thursday is another "brisk" say.  Currently -8 and falling.

I'm like Patricia...going nowhere in this weather...sitting here with my stove on and under a heated throw my niece gave me.  Very cosy.

Alpiner...sorry the new glasses are bothering you.  I'm waiting for mine to carry me through until my cataract surgery in April.  My eyes have really gotten bad this last 1.5 years.

Stay safe and healthy,

jane

Good morning buddies...8 degrees here this morning..and wind...supposed to last thru Christmas...my bunch had some early Christmas get togethers...so will be staying home ....trying to stay warm with books to read and hot tea or coffee...wishing everyone A Happy Blessed Christmas and coming new year...stay well and safe..sure most of you have cold weather worst than mine......

patricia19

Good morning from an Interior where overnight it's gone from minus 42 to minus 7. I wish I could say it'll last, but the forecast says otherwise, and there will be a lot of moving up and down with the minuses and pluses.

January and February are known for their darkness and cold temperatures, so what will be, will be.

I'm glad I have our regular call-text-and-email morning group because none of us local senior friends are going anywhere we don't have to!

SharonE

Hi Gals, I'm so sorry to hear how lacking in energy you all are. So far, I'm staying healthy although John had a bad cold all week. He's much better now and we will be able to go to our former church for Christmas EVe services tomorrow. Our church here isn't having any services because our pastor has family commitments.
It is 26 degrees here which is awfully cold for us, but certainly a lot better than you guys.

Mary, I hope you are much better by Christmas.

Mary Page, you too. Stay in, stay warm, and stay safe.

Jane, I think you were very wise to cancel your trip with the weather conditions and airline cancellations. Brian invited us for Christmas next year, but I doubt if we'll go with all the hassle of Christmas flying.

I hate not being with anyone over the holidays, but I really don't want to fight the crowds.

The only news here is that we're looking into getting another dog, a 7 yr. old female Lhasa. She is currently ready to deliver puppies, so we won't see her for at least 6 weeks. John is beginning to drag his feet though, so it isn't at all definite. I just miss having a dog so much.

Marilyn posted on FB today that she can hardly see to read or type and is having to use the speaker and dictate her posts. They were 40 miles north of the earthquake and felt it and were scared, but no damage. She really has her hands full.

Alpiner, I'm going to get new glasses in January. Hope I don't have headaches. Do you have astigmatism? I do and it really blurs words or at times gives me double vision.

John is gradually losing his sight. Having a terrible time reading. He has an appt. the 29th, so we'll see what the ophthalmologist says then.

MERRY CHRISTMAS TO ALL THE BUDDIES!

Sharon

Merry Christmas and the very happiest 2023 you can possibly imagine.

We had no snowfall, no ice.  Just frigid temps.  A little wind;  not much.  In all, we missed the storm.  We were too far to the East of it all.  Whether it comes in from the South or the West, it generally hits Washington, D.C. and then heads North to Baltimore and then on Northwards.
It has a lot of damage left in it at that stage, but just does not follow a path to the East any longer.  We are so lucky!

alpiner1

I don't know if I have astigmatism .  This pair of glasses are wire rims & the nose pads sit higher on the side of my nose .  Looking in the mirror I noticed they are lop sided  .  The lower side hurts my nose .  I will go back today for another adjustment .

I am slowly going blind with Pellucid Marginal Degeneration.  Nothing to do about it
No fix found as yet.  My doctor laughed as she told me I will probably be dead before I am completely blind.  Oh well:  the indignities of great age make up a long list.
I am almost totally deaf, as well and all.  Add in many serious ailments, and you wonder what can possibly be the good of me!
Chip took me forth in our ancient 2005 Toyota last night around seven.  Downtown to the City Tree at City Dock.
A Big Surprise was a number of boats and Sailboats in the Harbour still had their lights on from the Boatlight Show of several nights ago!  Wow, that was a surprise and a Delight!  I heard Chip muttering "rich boat owners", but I ignored him.  I could care less how much that cost them, as long as I had such Joy!

We traveled up and down our most impressive boulevards and into our most notorious for lights neighborhoods.  It was all a Great Joy to me!

Oh, and we were almost alone on those usually Oh, so busy streets & avenues!

Hi, Gals.  A brief update - I'm just home last night from a lovely week in the hospital.  They took me in the Tuesday before Xmas. I was still really weak, and the staff told Margaret I was "loopy". She told them to call me an ambulance. Anyhow, I had a UTI, and was still testing positive for Covid with hospital's sensitive testing. Anyhow, after various treatments - oxygen, steroids, antibiotics, PT, etc., they finally let me come home yesterday afternoon.  It's going to feel SOOOO good to get a shower and wash my hair later this morning. I'm still weak, but at least moving and wearing my own clothes.

Belated Merry Christmas to all!

Glad you are home & feeling better . A hospital stay is no fun !  I spent 5 days in a hospital back in 2018 & was so happy to be back home .

MaryPage

Oh, Mary!  I have not in my Life spent so much as a happy Hour in hospital, but joyful that you found it otherwise.  Still, I am so very pleased to hear you are back in your very own digs.

Other than my daily parade of nurses and therapists coming by, we have a quiet day on tap.  Whew!  I do not like hubbub, and prefer being left alone (with Chip or whomsoever is giving me care, of course).  Phone calls make for the best visits;  when both of us finally hang up, I am free to roll over and go back to sleep!

jane

Yikes, Maryz!  I'm glad you got the hospital stay to get what you needed and back on the way to good health.

MaryPage...such a joy to get out and see the lights and decorations around town.

Alpiner...hope your glasses are better with the adjustment.

Patricia...hope the "warm up" helps a bit, but good to just stay in and let it happen.

Sharon...hard decision to make on another pup, I'm sure.

Darlene...hope all is well with you and you're ready for a good New Year!

Marilyn must be having her hands full.  Thank you, Sharon, for keeping us updated.

We're at 32...warmest we've been in weeks!  Tomorrow I have a doc appt in CR...hematologist this time.  I hope that's the last doc appt for a couple months!

Stay safe and healthy,

jane

Good morning from an Interior that's cloudy and plus two! That means snow in our future which means warmer weather, at least for a time!

I'm glad to hear that everyone is feeling better or doing better, and I hope it lasts!

Hi everyone...MaryZ...glad to hear you are home and feeling better..Mary Page...I personally love to view all the beautiful Christmas lights...we here are warming up to 70 degrees...love it...18 degrees makes my joints hurt Sharon I would love another dog...but being by my self...bea big responsibility..but a lot of company..my Christmas was cold..but good...due to weather some of family didn't travel...and I will probably be in bed long before 2023 makes an appearance...Happy New Year..I pray God blesses us with all our needs...take care all.....

I'm home from my last doc appt of the year!!!
AND, it was a wonderful appt with the hematologist (blood) doc.  He said my blood report and 15 X-rays of all my bones were good.  He feels I'm in the low range for developing multiple myeloma.

I'll see him in 6 months and then yearly, he thought.

It was 62 degrees today in Cedar Rapids, but down to low 50s when I got home. Lots of snow melting.

Maryz...hope you're feeling better...

All friends here, I hope, are safe and we'll!

New Year's Eve has been cancelled here on the Chesapeake Bay.  We have fog, and I love it!
I cannot see the Eastern Shore or the spans of the Chesapeake Bay Bridges.

We will have the fireworks and the concerts tomorrow night.  In the meantime

HAPPY NEW YEAR TO EACH & ALL!

I wish you a happy fresh beginning not only for the start of this new year but also in its continuity!

Our new year celebration was canceled as well due to ice. I congratulated myself on missing the fireworks booming when the University on the ridge set off two hours of boomers. I couldn't complain as theirs weren't set from a block away as the city's would have been.

I'm turning into such a curmudgeon!
