Very quiet here this week.  I'm doing a lot of baby-knitting for the great-grandsons-to-be. We have more severe weather predicted for tonight, and are just hoping there are no more tornadoes. So many folks are still trying to recover from those last week.

Many of the skilled-care facilities in Middle Tennessee are now closing to all visitors, even family members. This assisted-living place has not closed, but I won't be surprised if it does in the near future.

Stay well, Buddies!!

Addendum:  We've now been officially closed to all visitors for two weeks(including family). Only trips out are for doctor visits. The Director says this is a state-ordered restriction.

My S and F acting funny again. Just typing this to see if I can clear it up.  Throws it back to 2o16 . Didn't we change the way it ran back them. Someone new took over.

Jeanne...no idea why you're seeing 2016.

Mary...same here...hospital, and other facilities are closed to any visitors. Our main cases are in the Iowa City area...and all were on a cruise ship on the Nile.  YIKES! Not someplace I'd have wanted to be.

It's a sunny day here, but cold with a brisk wind.  We may get snow in some parts of Iowa tomorrow.  UGH...not wanting that, though it shouldn't last long.

I think I'm going to be doing a lot of exploring Netflix, Prime videos, etc. for the next few weeks.

Stay SAFE, Buddies!

Hi Buddies..sorry I can't make print larger...it's still warm and humid....the news is telling older people like us to stay home.....but.....I have plans to go to my daughters next week....so think I will go.....just use common sense..and want be around crowds...Hi Jane...Sue Mary Sharon  Marlyin and everyone else....have great weekend

jane

Afternoon, Buddies!  It's SNOWING here for the last 3-4 hours.  It was supposed to go way south of us...guess it's GPS got messed up!  The temp is dropping a bit to....just down to 30, so it may not melt too quickly.  Roofs and grasses are all covered, but I'm not going anywhere, so let it snow!

I need to get my bathroom and kitchen floor swiffered and that'll be the extent of my work for today.  I did bake a pkg of bacon this morning, so have that for breakfast this next week, at least.

I'm listening to music on my tv...the various music choices we have...and that's pleasant.

Stay HEALTHY,

jane

Candy. Now they are saying not to be around many people. I live alone and intend to do that. I have lots food.books things to do.I can stay home. I am a person who like to do that anyway. Lived alone 58 year and enjoyed it.Always did as a child. Alway had a pet of some kind . Now just parrot. Great entertainer. spend lots of time on phone and friends figure on staying home also.
Jane. Well we are really getting a good snow storm. They said would be light but it about 2 inc. already and still coming down. Will need some warm sun now to clear it. It is the soft kind though.
Town seems to be so quiet other than all the crowds storming the Grocery stores. I always keep my place well stocked, always have.Could last a long time. Never lost the habits we had years ago for the 7 years war were food hard to find. Sure did not panic over the lack of Toilet paper.
JeanneP

Obviously very quiet around here. They've started checking blood pressure and temperature every day - fine with me. Margaret came by to bring me my mail that had come to her house, and to pick up the hats I had knitted for the babies-to-be. One of the staff went out to give her the hats and pick up what she had for me. Obviously I won't be going to the baby shower next Saturday.

My youngest (Jean) had to have her very-old dog put to sleep yesterday. Very traumatic for her, of course, even though she knew it was time. It's never easy. Another dog will find her and her love before too long, I'm sure.

I would understand a run on hand soap and/or sanitizer, but the run on toilet paper is mystifying.

This is our birthday time - granddaughter Alison today, granddaughter Sarah tomorrow, and me on Monday. A great time!

Stay well, Buddies!

Quiet around here, too.  I did go out and drove to a nearby town which has a locker.  I picked up some meat and some locally made milk choc peanut clusters.  It was snowing, but the roads were fine.

Mary...do new mothers use the baby cocoons any more, do you know?

Jane

maryz

I don't know, jane. In fact, I don't even know what that is. Guess I need to look it up.  ;)

Mary...cocoons were popular for infants...keep them swaddled which they apparently like.

https://www.icreativeideas.com/35-adorable-crochet-and-knitted-baby-cocoon-patterns/

I may knit one to add to hats and socks I knitted for baby coming in July.

The couple canceled a trip to a wedding in CO for the weekend. Colorado has a limit on 50 people at an event, apparently, and with Alexandria pregnant, they decided home was the place to be.

Nephew has also been "grounded" by his company from any trips to meetings/conferences, etc. and this is their busy season....contractors putting up walls for highways, developments, etc.  He's glad to be grounded.

My sister in Ohio says schools closed through at least end of month and Gov is talking of closing restaurants and bars.

We still have school on and restaurants open, etc.  Outbreaks here limited to people who were on the Nile cruise and a few others elsewhere...but who knows with no testing kits readily available.

Thank heavens for the internet and things like Prime video and Netflix and the others.

Stay HEALTHY, Buddies!

jane

!#$%^&  I'm coming down with something. No temperature (they've checked it twice), but I have a sore throat and productive cough. This has come on since this morning, and the staff here knows about it. I'm staying in my room. More news when available.

TAKE CARE OF YOU, Mary!  I'm glad you're in a place where they'll check on you and you'll get your meals and health care as you need.  Good Grief.

STAY HEALTHY, BUDDIES!  And, thank heavens for the internet and we can stay connected.

Mary.....hope it's nothing serious....our school is closing for 2 extra weeks and the family dollar has no hand sanitizer...or TP.....neither does Walmart or HEB....crazy...lets all pray for each other...this to shall pass

They can't figure what to do with the homeless shelters here. We have about 3 soup kitchens that serve about 300 a day in one of them. Can't understand that many in a small town. Most are not even Illinois people. The are going to still make the food but hand it to people on the outside . Only thing is that they use volunteers 55 and older and some not wanting to show up.
I I do have a hard time knowing how such as these shelters work . i was taking sheets to a women's shelter and some of the women just sitting around talking. Reading etc. And people who volunteer to help run the shelter were running sweeper, cleaning kitchen etc . I Was told that they could not ask the people living in shelter to do it.
We wait years for new licence plates in Illinois. Mine must be 10 years or older. They use to be made by the prisoners in the large prison here. It was stopped because said not legal to have them doing It. Think how much less it would cost to run a State  with other things needed ,if they would stop being so good hearted.  Put pool tables. Big tv.  And exercise equipment for prisoners to spend their days.

Gosh I had better go take a walk as I am getting mean thinking. Tell us to stay away from places for couple weeke. I wili  go barmy. Specially if gets warm.  No movie places are open. Soon the will be closing mall.
I do need to get my hair done but wonder about that.  Maybe just trim the Back myself . Rest o.k.

Sun is out   But I am still in my comfy clothes..

Happy Birthday Mary get well soon.

We had 4 people coming back from China with the virus at the start and not read of any since but today now they have got one at the Emergency at one of the big hospital. They already have tent on the outside fixed up for testing people complaining of feeling unwell. They test, give med to take home . Now the word is out that if you feel bad do not take Ibraprophan  ( can't spell in) as its not good for this ailment. Make sicker. So not the stores will be out of any other Like  Tylenol.
In my twin Cities now at 5pm today all bars and restaurants have to close down. Will deliver food still. I would not want to eat any. I bet the pizza delivery will go crazy. They always busy anyway.
JeanneP

maryz

Thanks, Buddies. I'm better today, but definitely not over this cold (or whatever it is).  The Home Health nurse says a high fever is the first symptom of Covid, and so far, I'm not running a fever. But I'm still confining myself to my room.

Jeanne, they said on TV today that what you heard about ibuprofen hasn't been proven at this point. So don't count on that.
"When someone you love dies, you never quite get over it.  You just learn how to go on without them. But always keep them safely tucked in your heart."

Our Libraries will be closed until April 14 they say. What we ordered on line will stay of the shelf.
Town is so quiet. Don't even hear a car of bus. All bars,Restaurants had to close down at 5pm prompt. I think the Fast food places can hand out through the drive up but that will not work . One person working it and traffic would be running into the main roads. Same with the restaurants until the food they have is gone. Call and pick up  at door. All will now bother as cost to much to do that. I suppose the Pizza cars will deliver until run out.
I tried reaching the Drivers place as I need to renew my License and take the road test. Planned on thursday. Thought maybe see if the would extend. Couldn't reach them but on 6pm news they told us that all State offics like that will be closed down and such as Test. New Reg. will add 30 days onto the time due. So I can relax a little.
The now say that the Emergency Dept at the Big hospital got people with the virus in today and so will use Tents on the outside. Now entering hospital. They will give medicine to anyone with it but has to go home. Such as Heart attaches etc will be tested in tent and put through to hospital. Same for baby Delivery. We may loose a few people this way. So sad. They say that the madness is far worse than if a Flooding or Tornado. Fires etc. Way people are reacting. Specially the food problems
Wan't every one to stay in house for a time and this is what should be done. At least we have homes to stay in.

Good morning, Jeanne and Every Buddy looking in this morning.  I'm up, but not 'at em'--just putzing around and still not dressed for the day.  My microwave quit yesterday and I need to do something about that--Tim was here yesterday but I didn't realize the microwave had quit.  Now I know, but don't know what to do about it!

It's chilly here this morning and I need to get dressed and out for my morning walk.  I've had breakfast and tidied up the kitchen, but that's as far as I've gotten!

I hope Every Buddy is feeling well.  Take care and enjoy your day!

jane

same here...some sun today and then 3 days of rain.

I got up and out to WalMart by 8:00 am and got what I needed.  Time to eat up the stuff in the freezer!

Bank has closed lobby....drive up and atm open.  I suspect all restaurants will go with call in and drive up.  I heard chick fileta is doing that.

Jeanne...I think food is still being delivered to stores and restaurants...they are just closing dining areas or limited to 25 people, etc.  Here they're saying groceries are hiring people to stock shelves overnight to keep up with demands.

Our schools are closed, too, but food will be available for children who get free meals at school.

I'm not sure how people are going to keep their teens inside, unless schools have sophisticated internet classes all set up.  It may be teachers are making weekly packets of assignments and collecting homework online or by drop off at school offices.  Teachers make those packets for kids who go on vacation, etc. it'll just take a lot of photocopying for those who don't have computers.  All the schools around me are closed until further notice as is Fitness Center at hospital and all support groups.

Take care and stay healthy!

Jane

I am going to hold off taking laundry but heading outtogrocery store .i thought I had gotten enough veg. But running out fast. Surely  I can find them. Since I gotten to roasting all of them now in the fat free cooker that I love, I am eating so many roasted. Luv them.

Sun out so have to get out.not get near crowds.

Glad everybody else is doing well. I feel some better this morning, but still very hoarse and sneezy/nose-blowing. Still no temperature. (YEA!)

Sue, call Tim and ask him to get you a microwave. They're very cheap now, and he won't have any trouble. You could also order one online and have it delivered directly to you.

Glad jane and Jeanne are getting some sunshine. Rainy and cloudy all day here. This is not too bad for me. When the sun comes out, my room "green-houses" and the a/c just won't handle it. And I just don't handle indoor temps of over about 72*. Margaret brought me a floor fan, though, and that should help some.

Happy Tuesday, Buddies!

I got this information from a Christian website  that I am a member of.

I got this info from a man my husband and I know well. The writer was working with the Corona virus in 1974. I am reminded of this verse.  Ecclesiastes 1:9 (NIV) What has been will be again, what has been done will be done again; there is nothing new under the sun.

Now lets let common sense rule our minds, and look logically at this virus. This is long but take the time to read, and digest what is written.

2 Timothy 1:7 (NKJV)
For God has not given us a spirit of fear, but of power and of love and of a sound mind.

On the corona virus, Covid-19-Virus some useful information

Two interesting notes - the first I mentioned - about prevention... the second is symptoms and how to know you have it.... Both have good tidbits... Regarding gloves I'm now seeing some articles against them but the point is to use them then throw them out - ie - use them in the store, drop in garbage on way out... use the gas pump handle wiht gloves, chuck them... etc.

Very worthwhile to read.

Dear Family and Friends, as some of you may recall, when I was a professor of pathology at the University of California San Diego, I was one of the first molecular virologists in the world to work on coronaviruses (the 1970s). I was the first to demonstrate the number of genes the virus contained. Since then, I have kept up with the coronavirus field and its multiple clinical transfers into the human population (e.g., SARS, MERS), from different animal sources.

The current projections for its expansion in the US are only probable, due to continued insufficient worldwide data, but it is most likely to be widespread by mid to late March and April.

Here is what I have done and the precautions that I take and will take. These are the same precautions I currently use during our influenza seasons, except for the mask and gloves.:

1) NO HANDSHAKING! Use a fist bump, slight bow, elbow bump, etc.

2) Use ONLY your knuckle to touch light switches. elevator buttons, etc.. Lift the gasoline dispenser with a paper towel or use a disposable glove.

3) Open doors with your closed fist or hip - do not grasp the handle with your hand, unless there is no other way to open the door. Especially important on bathroom and post office/commercial doors.

4) Use disinfectant wipes at the stores when they are available, including wiping the handle and child seat in grocery carts.

5) Wash your hands with soap for 10-20 seconds and/or use a greater than 60% alcohol-based hand sanitizer whenever you return home from ANY activity that involves locations where other people have been.

6) Keep a bottle of sanitizer available at each of your home's entrances. AND in your car for use after getting gas or touching other contaminated objects when you can't immediately wash your hands.

7) If possible, cough or sneeze into a disposable tissue and discard. Use your elbow only if you have to. The clothing on your elbow will contain infectious virus that can be passed on for up to a week or more!

What I have stocked in preparation for the pandemic spread to the US:

1) Latex or nitrile latex disposable gloves for use when going shopping, using the gasoline pump, and all other outside activity when you come in contact with contaminated areas.

Note: This virus is spread in large droplets by coughing and sneezing. This means that the air will not infect you! BUT all the surfaces where these droplets land are infectious for about a week on average - everything that is associated with infected people will be contaminated and potentially infectious. The virus is on surfaces and you will not be infected unless your unprotected face is directly coughed or sneezed upon. This virus only has cell receptors for lung cells (it only infects your lungs). The only way for the virus to infect you is through your nose or mouth via your hands or an infected cough or sneeze onto or into your nose or mouth.

2) Stock up now with disposable surgical masks and use them to prevent you from touching your nose and/or mouth (We touch our nose/mouth 90X/day without knowing it!). This is the only way this virus can infect you - it is lung-specific. The mask will not prevent the virus in a direct sneeze from getting into your nose or mouth - it is only to keep you from touching your nose or mouth.

3) Stock up now with hand sanitizers and latex/nitrile gloves (get the appropriate sizes for your family). The hand sanitizers must be alcohol-based and greater than 60% alcohol to be effective.

4) Stock up now with zinc lozenges. These lozenges have been proven to be effective in blocking coronavirus (and most other viruses) from multiplying in your throat and nasopharynx. Use as directed several times each day when you begin to feel ANY "cold-like" symptoms beginning. It is best to lie down and let the lozenge dissolve in the back of your throat and nasopharynx. Cold-Eeze lozenges is one brand available, but there are other brands available.

I, as many others do, hope that this pandemic will be reasonably contained, BUT I personally do not think it will be. Humans have never seen this snake-associated virus before and have no internal defense against it. Tremendous worldwide efforts are being made to understand the molecular and clinical virology of this virus. Unbelievable molecular knowledge about the genomics, structure, and virulence of this virus has already been achieved. BUT, there will be NO drugs or vaccines available this year to protect us or limit the infection within us. Only symptomatic support is available.

I hope these personal thoughts will be helpful during this potentially catastrophic pandemic. Good luck to all of us.

With apologies to those who have already heard too much about the corona virus, you may want to read this ...

How can one know if infectedd by Corona virus... Quick test

I got this from a friend of mine whose brother is at the Stanford hospital board. This is their feedback for now on Corona virus.

The new Corona virus may not show sign of infection for many days. How can one know if he/she is infected?

By the time they have fever and/or cough and go to the hospital, the lung is usually 50% Fibrosis and it's too late.

SIMPLE SELF CHECK

Taiwan experts provide a simple self-check that we can do every morning. Take a deep breath and hold your breath for more than 10 seconds. If you complete it successfully without coughing, without discomfort, stiffness or tightness, etc., it proves there is no Fibrosis in the lungs, basically indicates no infection. In critical time, please self-check every morning in an environment with clean air.

DRINK WATER
Serious excellent advice by Japanese doctors treating COVID-19 cases: Everyone should ensure your mouth & throat are moist, never dry. Take a few sips of water every 15 minutes at least. Why? Even if the virus gets into your mouth, drinking water or other liquids will wash them down through your throat and into the stomach. Once there, your stomach acid will kill all the virus. If you don't drink enough water more regularly, the virus can enter your windpipe and into the lungs. That's very dangerous. Please send and share this with family and friends.

IMPORTANT ANNOUNCEMENT - CORONAVIRUS
1. If you have a runny nose and sputum, you have a common cold
2. Coronavirus pneumonia is a dry cough with no runny nose.
3. This new virus is not heat-resistant and will be killed by a temperature of just 26/27 degrees. It hates the Sun.
4. If someone sneezes with it, it takes about 10 feet before it drops to the ground and is no longer airborne.
5. If it drops on a metal surface it will live for at least 12 hours - so if you come into contact with any metal surface - wash your hands as soon as you can with a bacterial soap.
6. On fabric it can survive for 6-12 hours. normal laundry detergent will kill it
7. Drinking warm water is effective for all viruses. Try not to drink liquids with ice.
8. Wash your hands frequently as the virus can only live on your hands for 5-10 minutes, but - a lot can happen during that time - you can rub your eyes, pick your nose unwittingly and so on.
9. You should also gargle as a prevention. A simple solution of salt in warm water will suffice.
10. Can't emphasis enough - drink plenty of water!

THE SYMPTOMS
1. It will first infect the throat, so you'll have a sore throat lasting 3/4 days
2. The virus then blends into a nasal fluid that enters the trachea and then the lungs, causing pneumonia. This takes about 5/6 days further.
3. With the pneumonia comes high fever and difficulty in breathing.
4. The nasal congestion is not like the normal kind. You feel like you're drowning. It's imperative you then seek immediate attention.

JeanneP

All above is good advice. Thanks

Marilyn, an excellent post. Thank you. There are so many situations that arise that you wonder about--church, having a cleaning lady in, allowing people in to view your house if you're selling it, etc. I've come to the conclusion to use common sense, know that I can't control it, and give the control to God.

Mary, I am so sorry you are sick again. I hope it remains non-serious. Take care of yourself.

Melanie & Sangmin camee Sun. evening and left about noon today. It's amazing how much we all got done and how much I was able to convince her to take. I was nearly comatose by bedtime because my legs and knees hurt so bad.  We did go out to an Irish Pub for dinner. Not crowded at all.I have my den 90% done. All the bookcases, files, desk cleaned out, sorted, etc. I still have a couple small shelves on my little bookcase to clean up.

I sold my mother's mahogany corner china cabinet and have someone interested in the dining table. No bites yet on my glass-topped breakfast table. It is beautiful and I hate to sell it, but no room.

I think we have chosen a realtor, but are concerned about having people come in the house to view it.  This virus is so scary.

Melanie took a lot of family heirlooms, antiques + 2 persian rugs, some jewelry, and I think that's all. They drove their pickup truck here so they could take it all.

Jonathan won't come for another couple or so weeks because of a maybe contact with the virus.

Many of our schools are closed and the library as well + all our amenity buildings.  What a mess it all is.  Stay healthy everyone.  Sharon

Some people are bulking at the price though, but it is really nice.

Good morning, Every Buddy. I've been up and 'at em' for several hours. My friend Tammy called me yesterday and asked if I would walk with her this morning.  I said yes and have been dressed and ready for several hours.  However I should have remembered that Tammy means to appear at the time she suggests, but always manages to be late! While I've been waiting I've been able to make my grocery list for Friday, so that's one chore that is out of the way.

I hope Every Buddy is feeling well this morning--and no virus nearby.  Our church did not meet on Sunday and may not meet this next Sunday either.  So far we only have 3 suspected viruses and the people are at the hospital in seclusion.  I hope and pray that all will be well with these who have been identified with the virus.

Take care, Every Buddy, and stay away from crowds. I don't plan to return to church for several weeks.

alpiner1

I cancelled my Thursday appt. with the oncologist because of the virus & have another appt. in April .  It was to get the results form lab work .  I get sick so easily I didn't want to risk it (have to take an elevator to her office ).  Our local market is having 7:00a.m.---to 9:00 a.m. for elderly & the disabiled shoppers . I'll be taking advantage of it tomorrow morning !

maryz

alpiner, good plan. I have an appointment with my cardiologist a week from tomorrow. I'll call a day or two before and find out if he still wants me to keep it.

ALL of our restaurants and bars are limited to carry out or delivery only.  No dining-in.
Our schools are closed, our churches have cancelled all services and activities.

Sharon...maybe postpone any open houses until you and John are safely in your new place.

My plumbers came back this morning and said they would continue the rooter thing so they wouldn't have to tear up the driveway.  They worked quite a while and said it was tree roots and those suckers will come back and I'll need it again in a few years, but for now, the washer is emptying well.

I got out to return an item left by the plumbers, get my glasses adjusted, and get to WalMart for some food items.  The bread aisle was totally empty and there was just one or two boxes of pasta in that aisle.  Lots of other things really low, though staff was restocking everywhere.

We've had rain most of the day, and more tomorrow, possibly severe at some points.  Goody >:( \

Lots of our stores in the mall in CR are going to very limited shopping hours or closing entirely, for the duration.

Stay SAFE, Buddies!
