Oldiesmann: Finally got the AmazonBot situation under control. I basically changed some server settings to tell AmazonBot that it's not allowed to access anything on the site. That should fix the speed issues we've been experiencing lately

Hello Every Buddy Just stopped i   to say hello and let you all know that I am still alive and as well as can be expected. Not much new here, I went out to Chinese lunch with 3 friends last Tuesday. We hung out there and gabbed for 2 hours. Wen I got home Keith had forgotten that I was out with the girls and had been looking through the house for me. Tonight is our rgular Friday Night Mexicabn dinner, I sure have put on a few pounds over the last 6 months. My do tor sas it is the daily glass of wine with my friends and that I should only have 1 glass per week. My triglycerides are up as well and so are Keith's.

JeanneP

Marilyn
That doctor is putting you on One glass of Wine a week. If it calms you at one glass a day. Do it. You do go out to eat and that is where people put weight on. But right now just go ahead . You keeping up with things is the main thing right now. Do some walking which you do with the dog and just eat what you want. I am eating some things I never did. special Cookies. Not going to worry about fussing. I have  BP testing next week. Going to tell them to take some blood. See if anything is to low or to high and go by that. To many things bugging us.
JeanneP

Cottoncandy

Good morning....79 degrees here this morning..will be 100 by noon....Jeanne...my cardiologist suggested I drink a glass of red wine every day...said was good for you...my impression of Marlyin is she will do what she wants to...no offense meant.....a quite weekend for me..may have family come holiday weekend...stay safe..have a great weekend

jane

Blessed relief today from the sizzling temps and humidit.  It's in the low 70s right now...9:30 am and I got my walk in.  I've got the windows open to cool down the house, though it'll make me sneeze later.
Some things you just can't win!

My friend Kathy wants me to go with her up to a little shop opened by a woman in her yoga class that's in a very small town north of us.  I'm waiting for Kathy to call and say what time we're going.  Otherwise, there a few things I need to do around here, and I haven't been motivated to get to.

Take care, stay cool and safe and healthy,

jane

Marilyn

Jeanne and Darlene, yes I will do what I want.  About the weight I've put on about 6 lbs just from eating too  much of too many good thing, Like pizza,

JeanneP

Marilyn.
That is me also. I bet I have stuck same as last check up 4 months ago. I put 5 lbs on.will see on Thursday. Not going to bother me. I am into making pizzas now and using butter.. Clothes fit same. If that changed then I would  worry.
JeanneP

SharonE

Hi Gals, I had a late nighter again last night, but have done 2 loads of laundry. Supper will be delivered tonight and noon tomorrow. Veal Parmesan for tonight. John is bridging as usual.

Marilyn, if anyone needs a glass of wine a day, it's you. Cut back on the pizza, etc.

Jeanne, usually you can tell by your clothes. Wouldn''t recommend butter/ pizza for weight loss though.

Darlene, I'm glad you will have company for the holidays. How can it be Labor Day already?!

Jane, enjoy your outing with Kathy. Stay safe!

Mary, check in!  Sue, too.  Sharon

maryz

Nothing going on around here.  I did walk a loop in the building this afternoon - mask and all. I'll definitely have to work up to doing more than a short loop.

Sharon, sorry you had another non-sleeper.  Most of the time, the door game is just bingo - and that's not my thing.  I haven't found one interests me yet.  And, or course, no bridge yet. I never got into playing bridge on line.

Saturday is a terrible TV day. I've just turned on Fried Green Tomatoes. I've seen it lots of times, but it is such a good movie.

Happy Weekend, Buddies!

so_P_bubble

I always thought I was getting heavier these last years since Ben died. Of course, no way to check it when you cannot stand on a scale.

Now they did weigh me in hospital. They have a great way to do it: me and the bed together! They know how much the bed is, so I now know my weight now is 46Kg, that is 101.41 pounds. So I lost, not gained - probably in the last two three weeks when I felt so sick.
I suppose it is good news: I don't need to worry about calories.

jane

Bubble...I'm sorry to hear you've been ill and in hospital.  I couldn't figure out how they were weighing Ray those last couple of times in the hospital, when they showed me the "thingy" on the footrail of the bed that gave his weight.  What a blessing they hadn't tried to get him up to weigh him.  You can indeed add some calories.

My own weight has also gone up...I blame it on the quarantine...and sizzling temps...I hadn't done any walking and sitting doesn't seem to use many calories...unfortunately, because I'm VERY good at that now.   :2funny:  ::)

The leaves on the first tree on my street to change color has begun to do so, so fall is acoming!  It doesn't seem possible Sept. is here Tuesday...that for me is fall.

My joints say weather change is coming tomorrow...hope it's rain!

I think I'll indulge again in West Wing and Good Witch and whatever else I can find on Netflix.  I have the windows open and the cool breeze is delightful.  I also have a check to write to take out to car guy tomorrow.

Take care, stay safe and healthy,

jane

Good morning, Every Buddy. I've been up, dressed, had breakfast, and am now trying to decide what to do today.  I have several books I've been reading and will likely finish one of them.  I don't know if Tim will be over this morning.  He usually tries to check on me every day or so.

I hope every Buddy is having a nice day.  Take care, Every One.
Sue

Bubble, always good to hear about a weight loss, but not from being sick. I've lost a bunch, too, over the past year, but I don't recommend open heart surgery as a means to accomplish that.  ;)

We had a horrendous thunderstorm in the middle of the night. I was awakened by very bright lightning and near-by thunder about 2 a.m., with lots of hard rain. Fortunately, the storm was fast-moving, and I went back to sleep quickly, in the chair. Supposed to have more this afternoon.

Today it's been five years since John died. I can't believe it's been that long. It's been a busy time - just in the immediate family - two weddings, a divorce, the first great-grandbabies, and the foster great-grands.  To say nothing about what's gone in the world around us.

Good morning, Mary and Every Buddy looking in.  I've been up, had my breakfast, dressed, and am now trying to decide what to do.  I have several chores outside lined up, but so far haven't accomplished much of anything!

I hope Every Buddy is feeling well and has a nice day planned.  Take care Every Buddy.

Hi Gals, started my day with our church service streamed on You Tube. So nice to stay connected. Other than that, folded clothes and did usual stuff. We had the delivered dinner, but both of us agree it is too heavy for lunch, so we are going to skip it on future Sundays. I always fix something easy on Sunday night anyway. John just finished vacuuming the carpets which is most of the villa except for tiled baths and kitchen. It just hurts my back too much to do it, so he has taken it over. One wouldn't think it necessary every week, but with Bunny and my walker going in and out and dragging leaves in, it does.

Mary, I agree that it doesn't seem like 5 yrs since your John passed, but I'm sure more so to you. Sending a big cyber HUG! As to the bingo, I can play it occasionally, but haven't here. John had never played duplicate online till the pandemic, but he has learned and plays nearly every day. If you want instructions, I'll have him dictate them to me and then email them to you. I don't much care to watch TV I've seen before.

Jane, Cedar Cove on Halmark was written by Debbie McComber. Did you find anything interesting when you went shopping yesterday?

Bubble, I'm sorry you've been in the hospital. I've spent enough time there that I know it's no fun. It is interesting how they can weigh you in bed. I've had it done also. I hope you are home and well soon. I'll keep you in my prayers.

Hi Marilyn, Darlene, Sue, Alpiner and any others I've missed.  Stay cool and stay safe! Sharon

SharonE

I just remembered I forgot to tell you about the lovely experience I had last night. I was blow drying my hair while sitting at my vanity in front of the big windows in our bedroom looking out on the woods about 7 PM. Suddenly, I saw movement back in the trees or bushes and could tell it was small deer.  I yelled to John, but he wasn't interested. By the time I got back in there, 2 fully antlered bucks had come out of the woods and meandered around in our back yard and were joined by some does. Unfortunately, I didn't have my cell phone with me and by the time I went and got it, they were gone. They were so beautiful though.  Sharon

Mary...{{{HUGS}}} on this sad anniversary.

Sue...always good to see your posts, even if you're as bored as the rest of us.

I did get a short walk in this morning and then went out to the farm where I buy sweet corn and got some for me and a dozen for my neighbor.  They're always available when I need help with big things...so a little thank you.  The season is about over.

Angie is an Aide at school and said there were 7 teachers out on quarantine...result of three big weddings last weekend...one had 800 invited guests.  Incredible.  Yep, that's allowed...our Governor, who spoke at the RNC Convention, doesn't see the need for any restrictions.

I came home from my walk and tackled a little job that's been bugging me.  My white garage door was a mess...so I pulled the hose over, grabbed a rag and gave it a washdown. THAT's what I've accomplished today.   :2funny:

Now I'm working on the Latin stuff I do for SeniorLearn and watching West Wing on Netflix.

Thanks, Sharon, for Cedar Cove info.  I'll look for that.  The potter had some beautiful things, but I thought a bit pricey.

 Stay SAFE and HEALTHY,

jane

JeanneP

Thought that as it was cooler today I would get a few jobs done. Did not get up until 9:30 slept from 11pm. So many dreams . So after the Sunday paper. Breakfast. Made bird food. Cleaned good the cage. Sat and pondered. Ate lunch and now 4pm. May still run the sweeper so can put it away.
I give up trying to do some of the things I did on Sunday's. Maybe tomorrow will be cool again. Try to do more.
My SILCame over Thursday to do my yard. His friend puts 30 acres in sweet corn and they had gathered it all . Brought me some and tomatoes. I put all the cornin boiling water for 4 min. Put all but 4 ears in freezer and gave the rest to eat right away another 4 min. Was so good. Only time I eat corn on cob.
Bubble. Can't believe. Weight only 100 lbs. I your look bigger.
That was my weight up to age 35 . I am 5 ft 1 , I had my yearly meeting with a new dr. After having flu. He said I needed to put weight on and gave me B 12 shots for awhile even though I have always been a bog eater. Finely I got up to 115 lbs. then another 10 so now after about 50 years never change much. Most people say I look better with weight on. I just never think about getting on scales not changed on checkups for years.same size clothes.
I have Comcast for tv etc. And now the are showing very little on tv. Taken stations off. Now see why people are streaming. I am going to have to bo some changing before winter.
JeanneP

Although I seem to have lost weight, my waist is much larger, but luckily almost all my pants are with elastic band. Only two skirts  (from University years!) are too tight. I'll still keep them: you never know and I like them: my dad bought them for me.

Today is an historical day for Israel: El Al is flying for the first time to the Arab Emirates, to Abu Dhabi. Officials are going there to sign for a normalization of the situation. Peace on the horizon?

JeanneP

Let's hope peace will be signed. It is hard now which nations have peace. Most seem to be on the outs. Even with politics in own country. US really bad. Voting coming up and after that will be worse.
Hope you are feelin stronger each day.do you eat well? I know you have a caretaker.does she cook?

Jeanne...My SIL in Chicago 'burbs called yesterday...she has Comcast and said it suddenly went out...so no phone and no TV. She did not have nice words to say about them. Same for her downstairs neighbor.  Her daughter called...and waited online for hour+ and all sorts of excuses...maybe fixed last Friday...NO...maybe Sunday...Not when I talked to her.  It's all she has to entertain herself...she's the 97 yr old and her daughters don't want her out and about with all the covid.

Once again, the rain gave us nothing...it looked like it came right over us, but no drops hit the ground.

I've finished up bagging up Ray's shirts for Goodwill and have two bags to take to them.

I've also been busy in the kitchen....NOT my favorite place.  I baked up a pound of bacon and have it in the fridge, and I baked some scalloped potatoes for supper tonight.  I also used Ray's Food Saver to save pieces of smoked ham center cut I cut into single portions.  Nice to have alone or add to potatoes or soup.

Today seems like Sunday to me.  Weird.  Tomorrow I need to go to the bank to cash in some EE bonds...one more month and those are finished.  I'll miss that deposit each month.  I think it's still drive thru and no lobby opened.  Same with one drug store here and the Chinese restaurant...carry out only.

Stay safe and healthy,

jane

Bubble, it's nice to hear that tensions are easing at least some place in the area. I hope it holds.

We had more thunder and lightning around suppertime last night, and now again this afternoon - some rain, too.

Good morning, Mary and Jane.  I've been up, had breakfast, read the paper, and have cleaned up my breakfast dishes. So far that's all I've accomplished today. I have several books waiting to be read and plan to do that soon.  Not much else going on here today.  I'd like to get outside for a walk, but it's already pretty hot outside.  So I'll probably not go very far if I do decide to walk a bit.

I hope Every Buddy is feeling well and has a nice day planned--even if it just means staying inside to be comfortable!

Sue

It got down into the 40s overnight, so a pleasantly cool and cloudy day here.  I went out and paid the car guy for fixing my car after I backed it into a corner of the house last spring.  It looks beautiful.  He does very good work.  Then I stopped by the drive up window at bank....only thing open...no lobby open yet.

I then took the last two loads of Ray's clothes over to the Good Will in a neighboring town 15 miles away and so that huge job is finally finished.  Back in town stopped at grocery and got an ear of corn for lunch. Season is about over here.

Friend called and said she and husband are quarantined for 14 days!  Her grandson in 3rd grade tested positive for covid so the whole 3rd grade is quarantined.  His other grandmother tested positive Friday and so they were checked and he tested positive Sunday night.  I see our numbers jumped by 30 since Monday.

Stay safe and healthy

Hi Gals. Bubble, I certainly hope that the peace treaty goes through. It's good to anticipate. I can't ever remember being 100 lbs, but then I was 5'7" when I reached adulthood.

Jane, good for you getting the garage door cleaned and the shirts ready for Goodwill. The poorer people will be needing those shirts soon. I can't believe you have a yellow leaf!  We have a huge oak, a sweet gum, some maples and I don't know what else in our woods, but it should be pretty late fall.

Jeanne, your fresh corn sounds good. Nice way to do it--half cook it and freeze it.

We've gotten some rain in the past few days, but nothing tremendous. Lots of flash floods north of us.

My cleaning girl showed today! Glory be!

And my doctor came to go thru all the questions I had for her. She told me I didn't need supplements other than Centrum Silver, Vit D, aspirin if I could handle it. She also said that my lactose intolerance is causing my post-nasal drip and that I shouldn't even have yogurt or cheese. She also said to stop my new neuro med for a month and see if I could sleep better. I hope she knows what she's talking about.

Jane, I loved your library post yesterday on FB. It was hilarious.Scary about the Covid spike.

Hi Darlene, Marilyn, Sue, Mary, Alpiner.  Stay safe. Sharon

jane

Well, temps to go back up today.  The weather is the only thing exciting around here.

I had a sad email from my friend Joan whom I met in Texas, but she was from Iowa.  She was the last one of our friends to see Raymond here at the house.  She's in hospice care at a facility in the Mpls area.  She is resigned to what will come.

I have nothing planned for today except more computer work...for the Latin classes I do the enrollment/class assignments/emails for.  This is the busy time for that, and so I better get to it.

Take care buddies, stay safe and healthy, and please let us know how you're doing.  THIS is my social life in these weird times.

Good morning all...just checking in...we have had a few drops of rain and predicted under 100 the next few days...I'm ready for that..we seldom have fall..goes from summer to winter.....not doing much today.....hope everyone is doing well and safe from virus

JeanneP

I am again sitting here at noon not making up mind what to do. Have to go to grocery store for sure. Gave the blood yesterday and tried to bring it up on my Christie Care. Down again. Could be Comcast as it is crazy right now. At the moment as I am in here it keep clicking off and back on again. Not going to even bother calling them. My Modem has one light brinking . It could be the Wifi and it keep going off. My Ipad using it but so slow. Only phone that I am still using is the old Comsumer Cell Flip phone. My new Mobile I have just tossed it away in the drawer . Spent hours trying to talk to them. Waste of time. Going to be months before Tech. is back to normal. Comcast is even as bad in Texas. Now they are giving a Ipad for $2 a month if you upgrade service. Yes One of myGS got suckered in to than. All that is on TV are repeats and now So many comercial in each one. Horrible one that should not be allowed. Every one you try to contact is Says. Due To Covet 19 all our operators are busy. Good excuse for all of them.
I need to do so much with my one bank but same. Only drive up. I need to sit with head dept. Sure ready to meet you though if people want to borrow Cars and Homes. Talking cars. I sure need to wash mine.
So just trying to not let things get to me.
Univ. if Illinois have now had over 1000 positive. 7 days ago one of the Fraternity houses had a big party.Part of it.  Should not have let them back in. Let them study at home and if they want to get degrees they will be happy to do the.  Found couple of young ones in one School 3rd grad the other day and one teacher. Now I think the head of football got a call from Trump yesterday. He wants the but 10 teams out playing starting this weekend. Illinois says not until next April. They say more young people so man about not doing sport than worrying about the virus.
SIL just came and did my yard again. Sure looks best in the are. He is looking so tired though. Bothers me. He comes so far to do it. I try telling him to let it go more days. He is a perfectionist when it comes to yards so will not do that. I could get the mower out and cut areas that grow little faster.
Well better just get out to store.

Good morning, Every Buddy.  It's about 10:30 here this morning.  So far I've read the paper, cleaned up the kitchen, and have just piddled around.  I'm hoping it will be somewhat cooler today, but it's looking like another scorcher!  I don't know if Tim will be coming over today as I think Kris is working at home, too.  I do need to get outside and clean up the sidewalk which needs it badly!

I hope Every Buddy has a nice day planned and you are able to stay cool!
Sue

Where is everyone today. I put a load of sheets in the washer and the usual morning stuff. Dr came to draw blood from John prior to his appt the 21st. Stopping the new med did help. I've had 2 nights of good sleep since. Hallelujah. I just can't get by without a good deal of sleep. I think part of that is my tremor meds, but I can't do without them. I'm going to see the tremor specialist the 15th. But I'm afraid the things he will recommend are rather invasive and I'm not up for that.

We finally got some French pictures hung yesterday. It took a while to figure out where to put them. They are 9 pics we took in 1979 when I took the whole family there. They aren't family pics though, just things we thought were special.

Jane, I hope you got all your Latin stuff done. Sounds time consuming, but with the situation today, you may need that.

Hi to everyone. Hope you are all well and staying safe.
Sharon

maryz

Sharon, I think we're all being pretty quiet. Nobody is really doing anything.  I'm here this morning, watching it rain.  Supposed to be more tomorrow before clearing off and getting cooler over the weekend.

Margaret filled my bird feeders yesterday. I've had several hummingbirds on their feeders, but overnight a raccoon or some critter completely emptied those feeders. They didn't even knock the feeders off their hangers - very neatly done.  ;D  But the hummers are not happy this morning. It may be next week before Margaret gets them filled again.

Today is clean-up day for this hall. The RAs changed the sheets on the bed, the cleaning gal came and did her thing, and the laundry fairies will pick that up this afternoon and return it after supper.  Fortunately, back to the usual Thursday routine for me.

I wish I could get some of my stuff hung on the walls. Guess it'll still be a while before that can happen, though.

Sharon, keep us posted about what the doctor recommends.

Happy Thursday to all the Buddies!
