JeaneP, The book group met in NYC in 1998, 2008, 2010 and 2012.  There was a group SNers who met where the little league champions meet each year. But Ella Gibbons and I were planning on doing something else and they were visiting many places and I had already been to most of them.  I think Robby Iadeluca went.  Remember him? He has just rejoined the book group. Says he had slowed down a bit. I think he just retired! At the age of 97!  You can't
keep a good man down!😊ðŸ'•

Sue, that's VERY scary.  I'm glad you didn't break anything.  I hope you're not too sore tomorrow, just from the jarring.

Margaret came by this afternoon.  She brought me a latching metal can to keep my bird seed in out on the deck.  That should keep the raccoons and squirrels out.  She did a bunch of small "honey-do" things for me - and all were greatly appreciated.  We also talked about finding a way to do something special with all the family.  We already go to the beach, but I've been trying to find something else.  We looked at some VRBO places here in Chattanooga and maybe we can all get together for a long weekend and all stay in one place.  We still have a third of John's ashes and have been trying to find a time that we can put them in the river outside the boathouse where he rowed.  We'll see what happens with that.

The knee was no better this morning - if anything it's worse.  I got the walker out of the closet and have been using that today.  I'm going to call the doc in the morning and see if I can get in to see him then.  In the meantime, I'm staying off of it, and taking pain medicine.

We had a few spits of sleet, but that was all.  It was amazing when the front came through.  It was immediate - strong winds, blowing rain, and about 15 minutes later, the sun was shining.  And the temperature has been dropping steadily since then.  Back to winter!

Sue....so glad you could get yourself up after your fall.  It can happen so quickly.

GinnyAnn....I hope you and Ray can get out some when the weather is ok.

Mary...a vacation place for all those of you to stay for a few days sounds good. I hope you can get in to see the doc.

We walked this morning and were glad to see the street work is done for now.  They still have a number of tiled crosswalks to put in and that will hold up traffic again, but they seem to be taking a bit of a break.

Ray and I went out to thre driving range for him to hit a small basket of balls for a bit and then stopped at a couple shops I wanted to see.

The predicted rain didn't come as forecasted,  but it was cooler.  Now it's to warm up again.

AnnieA, this is a copy of a portion of a post by Ginger over on Senior Learn.  You might try the email address that she mentions in that post.  I couldn't find a snail mail address for her.

Hi Gals. Just slipping in here for a quick post while the kids are getting dressed to go for a walk. They walk about 3 miles or more most days, but it is pretty chilly today.

Yesterday, we went to the Bectler Museum of Modern Art.  It is a museum that opened 5 or 6 yrs ago, but we had never been.  Most of the art was collected by a Swiss man named Bectler and was an astounding personal collection, even though much of it was to my taste.  It included things by Picasso, Giocometti (sp?), Miro, one by Degas, and numerous other things by artists I wasn't familiar with.  Very interesting.  Then we went out to dinner at a nice restaurant before coming home.  The museum had wheelchairs available, so they pushed me around in one. I just couldn't handle being on my feet that much.

Sue, I'm so sorry to hear about your fall. So glad you didn't do worse than hurt your pride.  Please take care.

Mary, I'm so sorry to hear that your knee is causing you so much pain all of a sudden. I'll be anxious to hear what the dr. has to say.  The family get-together sounds nice. So good of Margaret to come and do your honey-do's. The metal can is a very good idea.  We had a heavy duty trunk-type rubbermaid box that we kept seed and some back yard tools, etc in and the mice chewed right up through the bottom of the box. Needless to say, we don't store seed there anymore.  I keep mine in the sun room.  Not very pretty but handy.

Our weather is below freezing over night and in the high 40's by afternoon. We had lots of wind yesterday (10mph) and some today, but less. I don't like the wind.  It just cuts through you.

Ginny, hope you got out some over the weekend and have plans for this week.

I'm going to give the kids a tour of Sun City this afternoon and then maybe go over to Waxhaw or maybe the Indian reservation nearby.  Sharon

Phyllis, I tried Ginger's email but the one I sent didn't
have the b capitolized so I sent an email with the B.  Hope she is KNOWN using that B.  Thanks for the info!

Larry Hanna, it's nice to see you here.  Before SN crashed, my user
name was Ann Alden and I sent a big batch of quilting magazines to Pat. Are you still in Atlanta? We lived there back in the '80s & '90s but
moved back to Gahanna, Oh, in 1998, and this mid where we were living when I sent the mags. We are still here! Well that's not quite
my beloved husband died on Nov 16, 2016.  And with the help of many prayers, and very close family and friends, I am doing quite well.😊ðŸ'•

jane

Mary...did you get in to see the doctor?  I hope he offered some relief, if you did.

Sue...were you very bruised or sore after your fall?

Annie...I believe Ginger has had some major health problems, so you may not hear from her quickly.  Larry doesn't post here, but he may be reading this discussion.

I got a walk in this morning before it got too hot.  There's very little breeze today, so the sun is quite warm on the beach.

There's some chaos here on the rental policy for next year.  They've made a big change, and have had about 6 different versions of it floating around.  Nobody is really communicating very well, and we need to see the cancellation policy in writing before we commit for next year.

We had lunch with another couple here and heard their version of what they think the policy is. They hadn't heard the cancellation part that the desk manager shared with me.

Tomorrow is the Ladies' Luncheon and Ray's golfing with 3 other guys here, so there'll probably be 3-4 more different versions of the new policy.   What a mess.   8)  They may end up losing a lot of the regulars to other places.

maryz

jane, too bad about the upheaval at your condo.   After all our changes last year, I know how big a mess that can be.  I hope you find out some "real facts" ( not "alternate facts") soon.  Sorry, couldn't resist that.

I have an appointment with the doctor in the morning.  It was awful again this morning when I got up but is better now - so maybe something is slipping.  In any case, it needs to be checked.  I literally have stayed in all day today.  I ate the last of the delicious squash soup Margaret brought me for lunch, and one my frozen dinners for supper.  I didn't even go up to get my mail.

It was a beautiful day here today - sunshine and high in the mid50s.  And they're predicting more of the same tomorrow.

Maybe Jane it would be nice to try using another condo there.  Been awhile since I drove through that area but there did seem to be a lot of nice ones.  If not happy with the changes they make I am sure a lot of the Old timers that have used over the years will move also.

I was just looking at the Video of the Mary tyler Moore funeral Sunday. the cemetery if very close to Granddaughters house in Connecticut. So I will go and see it. She must have had it all arraigned and the site is just beautiful. Has a big Angel on it (Cost $2 hundred thousand). and the site takes 12 Grave lots. Just hope that tourist respect the site. I looks like a cemetery that locks its gates in the late afternoon.

I had a computer problem yesterday.  My ATT-U Verse thingie that lets me hook up to the Internet had a plug that came loose and I tried several places to replug it into the device, but never hit the right place.  Tim came over today and tried to get it going, but nothing was happening, so I saw my next door neighbor David outside and asked him to come in (he works for ATT).  He showed us where it should be set and now I'm back online.  Which is a good thing as lots of my forms to send my accountant are appearing in my computer mail box.  I need to call her and see is she will do my taxes again this year.  I'll have to print most of them out.  UGH!

Mary, I'm not too sore.  I was wearing so many clothes that although I do have a bruise on my right hip, it really doesn't hurt much.  I'm sorry your knee is bothering you and staying off of it is a good idea.  You are fortunate that Margaret leaves close enough to come by and help out.  When Bob died, we took a large bucket of his ashes down to the beach where we liked to spend Thanksgiving.  We put them into the Gulf after dark and when the beach was clear.  I still have a small amount in my bedroom which will be mixed with mine and taken back to the same spot when I die.

Jane, I'm glad I could get up by myself after my fall, although David had run outside to help me.  He comes home for lunch and saw me out the window.  I am trying to be careful about where I put my cane down with each step on my walk.  That day I had walked a good bit farther than usual and think I was not as careful when I got near my house.  I do have a small bruise on my right hip, but it doesn't hurt.

Sharon, it sounds as if you're having a good time with your company.  I know you're glad to see them.  How long are they staying?  You have quite a few nice places to take them to visit.  How long are they staying?

Jeanne, I'm a big fan of Mary Tyler Moore.  I always enjoyed her sit-coms, especially the one with Ed Asner as Mr. Grant and the early one where she was Dick Van Dykes' on screen wife.  I can still hear her saying "Ohhh, Rob!"   At least I think that was Van Dykes name.

I need to get to bed.  My Molly Maids are coming tomorrow to clean and I need to pick up some things so they can clean.

Sleep well, Buddies.
Sue

jane

Mary...glad you can see the doc and see what's going on with your knee.

Jeanne...yes, I'm going to look at two units in other buildings Ray scoped out yesterday.  We'll see what their policies are and what the units look like.

Sue....happy you had no real soreness after the fall.

Jane

My knee was much better this morning (of course), but I did see the doctor.  He said there was some fluid in the knee and that perhaps the patella had slipped while I was asleep (since the onset was so sudden), and it had gradually worked back into place.  Sounds reasonable, especially since it seems to be okay now.  He encouraged me to do some specific exercises to strengthen muscles in the area.  I'm mostly back to "normal" today, but I will use a cane for a while longer.

Sue, we put a third of John's ashes in the planting of the tree we put in the memorial park here last spring.  And then we put another third in the Gulf in front of the house we rent at the beach last year (with all our beach goers participating), so we still have the last third. I don't know what the girls will decide to do with mine.

My cleaning ladies were here this morning and did a good job, BUT! I had a mustache cup that my step-mother found in the garage at Grandma's place.  The cleaning lady dropped it into the sink and broke the handle.  My step-mother  thought it was my grandfather's (he died when my Dad was 6 months old and his older brother was almost 4 years).  I think she was mistaken though because Grandma, Daddy, and Uncle Shelton moved back to Grandma and Grandpa Lee's house after my Grandfather died. She was able to go to work to support her children because my great grandparents were still living and her unmarried sister Aunt Betty stayed home all her life and besides cooking and cleaning raised Daddy and Uncle Shelton.

Mary, I'm so glad your knee is much better and the doctor thinks it will be OK.  Good for you for doing the exercises.  I'm still using my cane--and probably will for a long time.  At least until the nerves in my back heal.  I did get outside after the cleaning ladies left and walked for about 20 minutes around the block.

Jane, I hope you have good luck finding another condo for your next winter's residence.  It's a shame the one you use and like is changing it's rental practices.

Hi to every Buddy looking in later.  I'm off to lie down with a favorite book.  I've laundered, folded, and put away my sheets the Molly Maids took off my bed and am looking forward to a quiet afternoon read.

Sue

SharonE

Hi Gals, I'm glad your knee is better, Mary and that it doesn't seem to be anything awful wrong with it. It's good you plan to continue with the cane. We have asked the kids to scatter our ashes in the garden of Butler University where we met.

Sue, too bad about the cup. That's why I don't let my cleaning girl handle my breakables.  Glad you got out to walk anyway.

Melanie & Sangmin left this morning about 9:00, so I have the sheets and towels laundered, but will wait for my cleaning girl to help me make  up the guest bed. We had a wonderful visit. Yesterday, I showed them all over Sun City and all of the amenities. Then we went out to a great seafood dinner. This afternoon I went to the church to talk to our pastor about writing articles about our church activities for the local paper. She was thrilled about it and so am I. That is something I can do from home that will be something important for the church publicity.

Jane, I do hope you find another condo that you like and has a cancellation clause.  Unfortunately, at our ages, that's important.

All for now.  Sharon

Mary, I meant to say that my sons will take my ashes, plus the small amount of Bob's mixed with mine and put them in the Gulf at the same place we put his.  When Nick was just 4, he remembered going to the beach and putting Papa Bob's ashes in the Gulf.  Every time I took the boys down there, he wanted to go talk to Papa Bob, so we did.  When he was 5 and in Kindergarten, he started writing a message on the beach to Papa Bob.  He'll be going to LSU next fall.  I wonder if he still thinks about that.  We haven't been to the beach much since they were 10 and 12--took longer road trips to see something new.  Oh, and Bob was 6'4" tall, so we had a large bucket of his ashes, minus the small amount we saved.

Sue

Marilyn

Yesterday I went with Keith to the DMV to take the written test per a letter from the state that he has to takes both written and driving tests over. he failed the test after sitting at their computer for 1½ hrs taking the test. Then he couldn't pass the eye test and has to see his eye dr. I have been doing all the driving for over a year now because he scares the holy Sh^%t out of me when he drives. I am the one who wrote to Salem and told them to retest him.  We spent 3 hours at the DMV yesterday. I am so frustrated that he keeps insisting that he  drives just fine when he doesn't.

maryz

Sue, I understood what you meant about the ashes.  I love the idea of writing in the sand on the beach.  We'll have to do that this summer when we go.

Marilyn, I'm so sorry about Keith - or rather glad that the state has stepped in to take away his license.  Now if you can just get him to pay attention to that, and to agree to stop driving altogether.

Another lovely day around here - temperature around 70!  Amazing for 1 February - but I know we're not through with winter yet.  Our swim group met for coffee this morning - even though none of us have been to exercise this week.  Our pool is closed for resurfacing.  We talked about going to another branch of the Y, but nobody has.  The pool is supposed to be closed for three weeks.

Happy Hump Day, Buddies!

jane

Marilyn...you did the absolute right thing for K and for all the others out there that could suffer from his loss of ability to see and drive properly.

Lovely day here...we're going to lunch with Wisconsin friends shortly to a place we've not been before, but is quite close here.

We've been out talking to real estate/rental places and condo offices.  Most don't know yet if they have any openings for next winter. Many may not know until cancellations this summer/fall.  We are on a lot of lists!

Hi Buddies.  I've walked, done a little cleaning, fixed and ate breakfast and lunch, rested on my bed while reading, did one load of wash and not much else today.  I started reading an old, but favorite book Tradewinds by M.M. Kaye.  it is still a really good book and it will take me a day or two to finish.  (I tried to underline the title, but couldn't get it to go.)

Marilyn, I'm sorry about Keith's driving problems.  I know it's tough for you.  Can you be sure he's not trying to drive when you are out?

Jane, I hope you will turn up on a list with a vacancy that you will like.  AND SOON!

Darlene, I saved a small amount of Bob's ashes to go with mine when I die.  We still had a 3 qt bucket of his more than half full that we put into the Gulf. He was 6' 4" tall.  My sons are glad we cremated Bob and that I plan to do so.  No worries about grave up keep and the beach is a good place to go to remember our good times there.  And Darlene, I believe that God will know where my soul is.  Do you think your daughter's pastor can help her with her belief?

I've been watching South Carolina Men's basketball at LSU and USC is way ahead at the half--50-32.  The second half is starting and I will go to bed afterwards and read for a while.

Sleep well, Buddies.

I had a very restless night....again over this new rental policy and the lack of a written policy about a refund.

We're going over to B'ville today...Ray's been so pleased with the salmon and cod he can get at the large HEB there.    Tonight's the pot luck here in the bldg.

We had lunch with Wisconsin friends at a little cafe 5 blocks up the street.  I had a muffellata (sp?) I came to love in New Orleans.

Sue...my daughter is ok with cremation...it's one of my sons..that may or may not be..but would..honor my wishes...Have a good day. Darlene

Sue. I read that the average amount of ashes for a grown person after cremation is aprox. 5lbs. Now I took care of doing my brothers in UK a few years ago. Had the family grave opened and put sort of a coffin like box with them in.  Did not seem that heavy and he was a big man. Were you buckets a good size or just small.

To all my dear friends here on Seniors and Friends:
I have been silent here for some time as my OLD computer finally died  :'(so I have
been computer-less.  My dtr who lives nearby to me went out yesterday and bought
a new one for me (just the big box (what's it called?), not the keyboard (although one
came with it) or anything else.  She spent hours yesterday setting it up and TRYING
to teach me a little about it >:( First of all I was amazed how much smaller the box
is compared to the dinosaur that I had)And I tell you I am an 88 year old slow learner! I have been a "nervous wreck" trying to retain a LITTLE of what she tells me.
Besides coping w/a new computer I have to cope w/this being a Windows10 and my
old one was aWindows 7.
Hoping to see online????

Hi Joy!

Good to see you!    I hope that you learn to love your new
computer...      Keep trying and don't give up because eventually   you will learn how to navigate this new machine and you will be very happy that you have it.

How is your family doing down in Baton Rouge where they
had all of that flooding (I believe) ...    Are things getting
better for them?   And for you,  also?

I sure hope so!

Take care and enjoy

Hurrah for you, Joy!!  You're doing a good job mastering the new computer if you were able to get online here, signed in and post!!  Double HURRAH for you!!

It's been a very warm day here...92° in B'ville this morning when we went over.  This afternoon we finished leaving our name at various places for their Wait Lists.  If nothing develops over the next 8-9 months, we'll stay home!  ;)

Pot luck tonight here, and I have meatballs and gravy to get ready.

Hi Buddies.  I had bridge today at 12:30--the club I most enjoy.  I had fun, but my cards weren't great and so no money for me today.  My quarter went into the pot for the winner.  I don't even know who won today!

Jane, I'm hoping that you find another condo that suits you and will also have an opening for next year.  Spending the winter at the beach is my idea of "almost paradise"!  Good luck!

Hi Sandy, good to see you here today.  I know Joy must have seen your note and enjoyed hearing from you, too.

Joy, I'm sorry your computer died.  I'm with you on hating to learn new things.  But I think you'll be able to handle it and before long you'll love the new computer.

Jeanne, I'm sure Bob's ashes weighed more than 5 pounds.  He'd lost a lot of weight, but his bones were extra long.  Son Tim who lives here is even taller than Bob was.  Bob was 6' 4" and Tim is at least 6'6" or possibly more.  My other sons are both about 5'11".

Darlene, I'm glad your daughter is OK with cremation and hopefully your son will come around when the time comes.  Sometimes they do change their minds.

I'm going to a women's basketball game which starts at 8:00, so I'll be late getting home.  My neighbor up the street is going with me and will drive us.  I'm still not vetted for driving--yuck, yuck, yuck!

Have a nice evening, Buddies.

Not sure if I have mentioned this before,  but when I was in Baton Rouge hospital about five years ago,
after I suffered a stroke while on my trip around the USA,  Joy
found me  (at a strange hospital) and called me on the phone.

I am not too sure of our conversation  (because I was pretty much out of it) but I do remember the phone call.   And always appreciated her reaching out to me, when I was in big trouble,
in a strange city,  thousands of mile away from home.

Sandy, Sue, Jane, and ALL:
Sandy, How I remember talking to you when you were in the hospital here in Baton Rouge! I hope you found out that Baton Rouge-and all of Louisiana---are kind to strangers.
Re:the Flood of the century here-----Out of my 6 children, 3 were seriously flooded out of their homes ---one is still
not in his.  Thousands of Baton Rougeans (sp) are still displaced to Fema trailers, hotels-pd by Fema, etc., etc.
Many schools are still not operating in their original place.
Sue and Jane: I have only now (yesterday)just been able to get on very limited places due to the diligence of my 3 daughters. I have seriously doubted whether I should have attempted  this adventure @88 yrs. old.
I sincerely hate to bother them so much.
