Patricia - The person taking the picture was standing on the launch area. The hang glider eventually lands on one of the fields below. I was always amazed at how they could maneuver the glider and land at their destination. It takes a lot of practice and you don't begin on this type of hill!  ;)

MarsGal - I understand your missing George.

Shirley - You and I are built out of different stuff!  ;D  I never had the desire to try it and I'm terrified of heights. My son started on smaller hills and by the time he was 15 he was teaching people how to fly. I used to watch him but after awhile I had to stop. My nerves couldn't take it.  :) Fortunately he stopped flying when he started college. Chape was always a bit of a risk taker. He led an interesting life. I can't tell you how much I miss that man!  :(

Rammel - Those "UFOs" must have created quite a stir.  :)  I always wondered what would happen if their motor died!

Beverly,
Being they are Ultralights, and have a very small engine, I suspect they could glide fairly well.

Thank you hugely, Sandy!  My heart thanks you.

These photos are each from previous years.  I have been here in this apartment for almost 19 years now.

For Shirley
Here's some photos taken thru my kitchen window which is double pane Andersen plus a thick, dark tinted storm window over that (3 layers of glass). The cardinal isn't in focus so hope I can do better next time.

The 4 photos are unknown to me, not our normal sparrows. These are 4 different birds but think the same family???  The goldfinch is female, saw her mate yesterday, bright gold.  I did see some other kinds (quite a few) so if anyone shows interest

I spend way too much time at that window, but has been fun to watch them pick & choose different foods I put out.

Good morning everyone. so_P_bubble I do not think you or anyone else is wasting time enjoying what god has provideded for us to enjoy (go for it and enjoy) I spend a lot of time watching the birds and other anamels of Nature even a skun. It sadens me to see a anamel dead inor along the road, Paticular a deear or coon, that could have been picked up and processed for some homelesor poor people to eat. years ago when I was hauling produce to governement foo storages, like ft leanoared wood army post. I camearound a corner and there wasa whole heard of dear, licking salt off the road. I could not slow quick enough and hit severial of them crippleing one bad enoug it had to be put down, so got my pitteal and walked upto it and put it out of its mizery.got into lebon and calledthe game warden and told him about it. he thanked me and said he wold go take care of,whitch he did it was gone next day when I was returning home. I told one of the employes about it, and he said i should have came got one of them to go back and help me get it. he said the game warden he said I bet it went in his frezer not in some poor people or nursing home's place. Probely was right, But i did what i was thinking right. Have a good day. see you all later.

The second bird in post 9788 looks like it might be a song sparrow. Do you remember if it has a dark splotch on the upper breast? I've seen them before. Sparrows are so numerous and varied even within their on group that it is difficult for me to tell sometimes. Check out the song sparrow pix here.  https://mileshearn.com/2021/02/14/identification-of-11-sparrow-species-a-photographic-guide/

MaryPage, Mom always grew geraniums in pots. They were one of her favorites.

Gloria

SHIRLEY  loved seeing the Cardinal. I have not seen one since moving here and I miss them and the others I used to watch from my window. Thanks.

Beautiful, SHIRLEY!  Yesterday, I walked to the door where I can see my bird feeder just in time to see a cardinal light there!  I almost flipped.  That's the one and only time I've seen a cardinal at the feeder!

Good Morning everyone.
I use to "Multi task"  as a way
of life..

My "to do" list was always miles long
and never got finished.

But now,  more than one problem at
a time and I have to stop and remember
to "take it one step at a time"
and be sure to document  everything
because for sure I will forget what's next.

Glad you got your printer working Shirley!

All  is well here as can be expected,  if I
forget to put the news on.    Which I forget on purpose

Have a good day,  everyone.

Beverly, that photo of your father looking over the "homestead" is a painting waiting to happen. I've painted a number a lot like that, that told a story for families. Jack that used to post in here a lot, found a new online art feature that turns a photo into art... I've been trying to get time to pester him into showing me how but life/living has taken up my hours & have not gotten back to visit with him. Do wish he'd bring his smarts so all of us could learn at once.  Was very impressive what he showed me (e-mail). I think it would be perfect to turn that photo into a great painting to frame, to dream over when we can't do much more than sit around and remember.

Bubble, thank you so much for posting the photos, you do such a super job of making them look better than than what I send!

MaryPage, the flowers are beautiful. When we bought this house it had a dozen or more wooden pots that held salmon colored geraniums, they didn't survive except one that first winter. I learned later from a neighbor that the pots of flowers were inside the dome that was put over the heated pool so the original owner could swim every day all winter). Anyway, that one grew so big I decided to transplant it right under that bird feeder (before it was there). It was gorgeous, like a big shrub until I looked out one morning & it didn't have a single leaf or bloom on it! Some kind of worms completely stripped it overnight. Last geranium I ever had! Cas wanted the space where the dome was stored in summer so got rid of it to someone to use as a greenhouse.

MarsGal, this family of birds aren't like any of the sparrows we usually see. Great link you posted and I bookmarked it, better than any I've found to identify of sparrows. If I don't check close when the finches show up, they also look like sparrows, smaller. The House Finch males have a bright red head but females mostly browns. Male finch at the feeder while ago but didn't have the camera handy.

Gloria, the cardinals show up all the time so hope to get a better shot for you. One family lives "out back" and the male talks to me every time I go down to the river. They are really friendly birds. Have tales to tell about nesting cardinals both when we lived west of town & after the move to the heart of KC (Leawood).

Sandy, for sure I need to memorize "one step at a time" because it is the rushing that causes a lot of my problems!

Jane, hope that cardinal returns & you get a chance to talk to it. They really are sociable birds & will listen, when comfortable will chatter with you. Any time I go out back this one flits to the power line & lets me know so I make my human sounds & it hangs out until I come inside. Try it!

Lloyd, I have not hit a deer but did have a meadowlark dart across the highway, heard it hit the car and since I was on the by-pass around the city, too much traffic to stop. When I got home there was blood on the grill so I hoped it was killed instantly & not suffering. Had a neighbor that saw a dead coyote on the highway & insisted her husband stop to pick up in a plastic bag, at that time was a bounty for their head or fur. I thought that was awful but guess safer than waiting for vultures or hawks to clean up.

I hear someone mowing so better get things ready for mine to show up. Thanks again, Bubble for posting.

Great photos of lovely flowers and hungry birds! We have either small forest birds or large owls, eagles, or hawks here. They cut down the trees back in 2020, so we no longer can watch birds close by. I miss walking along the trails of the wildlife refuge here and sitting by the waters to decompress. Now, I feel like a fawn with splayed legs when walking a few feet.

MarsGal

I don't notice too many sparrows here. Where I lived years ago, we had all kinds. My favorite was the little Chipping Sparrow. If I think of it later, I will count up all the birds I saw at that house in Etters. Just this spring, after a long "dry" spell of not seeing any around here, my neighbor has had a Cardinal in her back yard for at least a week. Hope they intend to stay.

Beverly

I love watching birds in my back yard.

Shirley- Yesterday a beautiful male cardinal landed on the branch of the crape myrtle tree and sat for quite awhile. Later he came back for an even longer visit. My Dad grew up on that farm and I love the picture. That was about 1937. For several years my brother owned it but now there are quite a few homes built here and there cluttering up the view.  Progress!  :( Thankfully, the original farm house is still standing.

MaryPage - Lovely geraniums and I love the blue pots.

The calla lily that popped up in my blue pot has its first bloom. It's purple.

Lovely roses and Mother's Day gift Bev! I love white roses, and they are so simple and elegant. I love white flowers most.

Shirley

Love your roses, Beverly. That salmon color shows "the back & front" colors of the petals, isn't that neat?  Can see each curl at the top of the petal. I've painted my share of roses over the years but didn't take photos of most because that was when we used 35mm cameras & had to get prints made, before digital cameras. The roses look nice & fresh so should last a long time. I'm jealous, I didn't get any this year, thanks for sharing yours.  :'(

Beverly

Shirley - My son has ordered flowers from the same company for several years and they never disappoint! Always fresh and last a long time. I love roses!

FlaJean

Beautiful Beverly.  I also got flowers and a box of Godiva chocolates.  They are yummy.

Shirley

Bubble, you honestly make the pictures look so much better than what I send, thank you so much!  I need to sit outside with the camera instead of having to shoot through 3 layers of DIRTY glass!

Amy, I also thought what Jack did to that photo was special & wish he would hang out with us to "splain how" it works. He also sent me a photo of his son's Maine Coon kitten. Their old one had to be put down & this baby looks so ornery I'd love to adopt it (if it could bark). I enjoyed having a dog that heard if someone was around & these cats hide. I do think I would sleep sounder! I've always slept with one eye open (my mother said it was because I didn't want to miss out on anything). Anyway, Jack is very private with his family photos so want to get his permission before sending it to Bubble. Cutiest cat I ever saw.

Amy

Shirley, we just saw a bluebird!! He/she was eying up one of the birdhouses and I do hope they settle in one. Not common to the area but always a welcome guest!

Good morning, Shirley; how nice of you and Jack to use that app for Bev to have a different view of that favored photo! And thank you, Bubble, for helping Shirley bring those photos for us!

I also liked seeing how he used the camera exposure setting in those avian photos. I've always enjoyed seeing his retrievers' pictures and that showplace so close for him to enjoy and bring enjoyment to us.

I believe, correct me if I'm wrong, but didn't Jack's son and his granddaughter have some of those huge dog breeds?

I haven't used my camera that much; I often grab my phone. But then, I'm rarely out with a need to take photos anymore.
