Just a heads up to everyone that I will be moving the site to a new server tomorrow night. As with last time I am staying with the same host, but the new server is configured differently such that I'll have access to more up to date software and such.
Also, I need to know who all has access to cPanel besides Pat as I'm using a different control panel on the new server (cPanel doesn't work with the version of Linux I'm using on the new server). The layout is simple and pretty easy to adjust to (I've familiarized myself with it in about a week and a half after using cPanel for 15+ years), but the address has changed so I want to email the appropriate people with that info :)
As usual, the change should take effect within 24 hours of the time I move everything over. Let me know if you have any questions.
c Panel? Not sure I understand what you are asking.
If it is the list of administrators/moderators, it is visible in the member list.
Oldiesmann, we seldom hear from you but are aware of the work you do to keep us in business. Thanks for your help, and the heads up.
Oldiesman, we "oldies" are so fortunate to have you as our "man" for managing things! Thank you!
I have no idea what cpanel is.
cPanel is software used for managing the website (setting up email accounts, databases, etc.). If you've never used it then you have nothing to worry about :)

Haha, I've been to read the message & sorry to say am no smarter~ :crazy2:~ Another "thank you" for all you do, Oldiesman. Since Bubble is the one that bails me out when I can't get in (whether to blame my computer, server of Microsoft update).... hang on to her!!!
Thanks for the warning, I generally blame my server for everything. :uglystupid2:
Oldiesman: Thank you for all of your help!
OLDIESMAN, please accept my heartfelt thanks for all you do for those of us not smart enough to do it for ourselves. I would literally be lost without the friends I've made on this website. And may I add my wishes to Shirley's that KEEP BUBBLE!
I can access the C-Panel so will appreciate getting the updated information. Like the others have expressed we are most grateful for your help with this website as it means a lot of us. Larry

Above came as I attempted, unsuccessfully to post in a discussion.
Thanks for the info Jane. I'll take a look at it when I get home from work this evening. What topic was that in?
Larry - I'll send you the info in a bit :)
Also, for those who have FTP access, the username has changed to "mods_seniorsandf" from "mods@seniorsandfriends.org". The password should be the same.
Oldiesman...
I am having trouble posting in the Village Clubhouse...." Follow that Name " game...this is the message that keeps coming up...I tried to post twice...
Database Error
Please try again. If you come back to this error screen, report the error to an administrator.
Just tried again, this message came up...only it still hasn't posted... ???
You already submitted this post! You might have accidentally double clicked or tried to refresh the page.
Jackie and Michael,
I received the same message in the "new" recipes forum.
It is a revolving set of error messages.
Weird. I'm honestly not sure what's going on there... The forum's error log isn't showing any database errors at all and I was able to post in the "Follow that name" topic just fine.
Also on all the subscriptions mail I get in my inbox, there is the mention
'Seniors & Friends <patzscott@gmail.com>

This message was not sent to Spam because of a filter you created. Edit Filters' with a question mark.
Is there no way to stop that annoying line?
For what it's worth, I have not had any error messages or anything odd on any of the places I go. Maybe that's because I'M so ODD, myself!

That's on your end and has nothing to do with S&F.
oldiesmann - I've been unable to post a message in Library Bookshelf, today. I tried a couple of times this morning, and again just now. Both time this message comes up:
Database Error
Please try again. If you come back to this error screen, report the error to an administrator.
Marilyne...
...frustrating isn't it? same for me in village clubhouse, haven't checked if its anywhere else...
It's weird because it isn't actually logging the error anywhere and it works for me. I have to leave for work in 20 minutes but will hack things up later tonight to make it display the actual error message to you so I can figure out what's going on.
Michael, it doesn't always show up and when it does it's arbitrary. I found it in Photos then and now once as well as the recipes discussion.
Ditto for me in Bait & Tackle.
I've had no problems viewing, but FWIW, could our computer cookies and/or temp files be messing things up? It wouldn't do any harm if we did a power cycle. Could help, but wouldn't hurt.
Rick, I have mine set to do that each time I close down. However, I don't see how that would affect multiple users on a forum site with the exact same error messages. It has to be something with the simple machines programming format.
I've modified the code to show the database error to everyone (instead of the default of showing it only to admins), so hopefully that will help me track down the problem.

I do agree with that. But I have seen strange things happen computer wise and a full power cycling has, at times, made a difference. And, as I said, it can't hurt. I'm of the opinion that many don't bother to shut down. Without a shutdown and other actions memory doesn't clear nor temp and cookie files.
I also have no idea of how this software works (program wise).
Oldiesmann...
...whatever it is you have done it has worked, well it has worked for me...I can now post in Village Clubhouse...thank you...Hope it has improved for everyone one...
Others have posted in Bosom Buddies in Medical area, but I get this
Database Error
Incorrect string value: '\x92s won...' for column 'body' at row 1

I got one post in, went back to Modify to add some info to the BBS, and got that same database error.
Odd I can post here...but not in Bosom Buddies.
From Bait & Tackle this morning:
When I used the Back button there to try again, the screen rolled back to my post, but the Post button was frozen.
The "\x92" character is a character that isn't supported by the current database encoding. Make sure you're using a regular apostrophe instead. I can convert the database to support that later, but it will take a bit of time.
Thx. I will go try it.
...with best wishes from the iPhone that caused it.
As usual i am a little confused as to what you are changing but so far all is working the same It is great that we have you taking care if S and F thanks.
Oldiesmann..
...now I am back where I started...it wont allow me to post again in Follow That Name...It did when I tried yesterday but not now...same message is coming up as before...
Jackie that's what I meant when I said the error messages were arbitrary. Sometimes it works and then it doesn't
I'm hoping Michael is able to replicate the error and fix it.
Oh what has happened to my personal signature? what are those strange letters - at the start of " you are amazing " and " I surround myself? and before " anon? " they are not there when I go into my profile, nor have I altered anything...so where did they spring from? ???
AngelFace...
...I am beginning to think you maybe right....strange things seem to be happening...its becoming a hit or miss..
Jackie - I've been wondering about that strange looking cryptic code, that comes before your signature! :D ;D
Jackie,
What should we see before - you are amazing ?

Something must have gotten messed up in the transfer. You can fix it by going into your profile and editing your signature.
Also I'm going to be out of town tomorrow (Monday) and most of Tuesday but will try to check in from my phone from time to time.
Oh it wont even let me come back to modify my above post...message comes up it has already been posted...How strange, it would allow me to modify this post but not the above post....
Rammel...we should be seeing just quote signs, " " before and after each sentence...
Oldiesmann...this is strange, just one of the strange signs is now showing up in my profile signature but not the other two , weren't before...I am now going to attempt to get rid of it in my profile...
Edited: yes that one has gone but the other two aren't showing so I cant delete them until they show up....hope you are all following this? as even I cant make much sense of it either...seems everything has taken on a mind of its own...a kindof, will it or wont it...or quoting Angelface " revolving "
Vanilla, I managed to change the " at the beginning of your second quote but the end " would not bulge!
Michael for that last strange symbol, it said:

I had the most awful time trying to post in the new Soda Shoppe page.

This message kept appearing and even after erasing my post and trying something else it kept saying: you already posted! Maddening - especially early in the wee hours of morning.
Michael, can you find and fix??? I know it is puzzling... Thanks!
Sorry Shoppers, only one joke this time as it would not accept any of the others I tried.
Bubble...
...yes this is becoming a hit or miss for me also...the other day it allowed me to post in " Follow that Name " when I attempted to post in there soon after, it wouldn't allow me, again same previous message came up...

Above even with no apostrophes. I did have quotation marks but took them out and it still would not in Bosom Buddies. I tried here, and then took those punctuation marks out and I will see if it posts here.
I did some work on the database and I think it's fixed now, but I still have no idea what the problem was. I re-imported all the old messages from the other server and I still got an error when trying to do something with the database, so I'm not sure where the problem was. I had to hack things up a bit to get past that point but it should be working now without any errors.
Thanks, Michael!!
Keeping my fingers crossed. Bravo Michael, you did a great job :)
I have had a problem twice today. I posted a comment, went to correct it and wasn't allowed to. It gave me a red message posting the message area was blank! If I canceled, it went back to the previous unedited post. The only way to correct was to copy the corrected message, use the remove message feature, then open a new reply box and post the corrected message there!
Is that when you clicked the go back arrow instead of the modify button?
I don't remember, however, probable as I generally only use modify when I'm coding.
That same issue happened just now when I was using modify in a B&T post so I do not believe it matters.
Next time it happens copy or take a screenshot of the error message you get so I can see what's going on
