Title: Site Upgrade Tonight
Post by: Oldiesmann on September 06, 2020, 04:52:23 PM
Just a heads up, I'll be upgrading the site to SMF 2.1 RC3 later tonight. This version includes numerous bug fixes as well as some enhancements related to GDPR (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/GDPR) (built-in support for a privacy policy, the ability to download your profile data and some other things). The upgrade shouldn't take more than 10 minutes or so, but I thought I'd give everyone a heads up anyway.

Issue number one...when i click my curser on my avatar name main page to the left, under " user " says " page isn't working "

Issue number two...when i click on my name at top of left of page next to messages and alerts, says " loading " then gets stuck on " loading "...Cant get into my profile...

Both were working fine before the update...

Haven't checked anything else yet as it is 7.am here in UK, i have only just arrived in here...

Oh also just noticed when i click on who is " online " members names bottom of page, says " page is not working "

Sorry but dont like all these " updates " when things were working fine in the first place...

Okay, site will take my posts, but insists on going back to page one when I reply. I do not have access to my account settings and the logout button at the top of the page is missing.

Profile-related issues have been fixed. I had to manually edit one of the files to add the country flags back and forgot a } in one spot.

Michael, whenever I complete and post a message, I end up anywhere across the board and cannot get to where I posted the message. I've gone to 2016, 2018, or back at the homepage. Anywhere but where I posted the message.

I'll have to look into that. I was under the impression that the issue with it not redirecting to the proper place was fixed.

Michael, this morning I posted in Paintshop Pro. When I clicked post, I landed on page one, August 27th. I can see where I posted on the forum page. Upon clicking on that, I ended up on page one, September 2016.

I believe the problem may lie in the upper left Unread Posts and Updated Topics and making sure both are clicked to show plus signs rather than minus signs. I'll see if it has any effect on this post.

@angelface555  Just to be sure, you have this set in your profile,

"Return to topics after posting by default."

Click your user name top left of screen.  In the dropdown menu choose Look and Feel, then make sure the box next to "Return to topics after posting by default." is ticked and click save at bottom.

Still having trouble with the posting settings. I have both return to topics and show most recent post at top checked in my profiles and I tried the plus positive beside Updated Topics. Nothing works. What I did find is that if I click on the oldest post page number than back to post page 1, I can see my post. So, for now, that is my workaround to the problem.

Title: Re: Site Upgrade Tonight
Post by: MarsGal on September 12, 2020, 07:25:02 AM
No lurk, it does exactly what it is supposed to with the "newest post on top" checked off. Checking the box does allow for my post to show on top, but only if I go to another page (I just go to the last one) and then click back to page one. Then it is there. Extra step, a work around, but it is a little disconcerting to not see my post at first. I had thought I lost it the first few times it happened.

I get a little persistent because I know if I can't do something one way, I can usually find another way. At least my post doesn't disappear entirely. I also checked that it wasn't a browser problem. Right now I am using Ubuntu with Firefox as the browser. I also use Windows Edge on, of course, the Windows 10 machine.

Good morning MarsGal. You're lucky. I was unable to see my posts nor follow any links. The only seeming workaround was to change my name and open an entirely new account.

Everything seems to be in order except that I am unable to log out. All I get is a "loading" message.

I take that back. I can't get into my account settings either. I get a black page. Also, no flag.

Michael I have repeatedly emailed you concerning nonworking parts of Seniors & Friends. I have yet to receive a reply so I'm posting here as well as sending yet another email to the address that Bubble assures me is legit.

The quick reply button does not work.  I am unable to post graphics. Multiple functions such as
quick edit, alerts, and discard do not work or freeze the system.

I have not had any Microsoft updates, issues with my laptop or other sites other than S&F.

I would like some help please.

Is the "Quick Reply" supposed to be the same full function as the regular Reply, ---- or is it just a Quick Reply (as it states)?

I added this with "Quick Edit".

From the"Simple Machine" Help area.
"If 'Quick Reply' has been enabled, a simple Reply field will also appear after the posts on a page, but you will have to type your Bulletin Board Code and Smileys manually if you choose to use them."
So, as it says, it's a Quick Reply box.
Don't know if Michael did any mod's to this.

What browser are you using?
Something to try/check - with no solid reason.  Under VIEW and or ZOOM set it so there is NO zoom, then check.
Title: Re: Site Upgrade Tonight

I'm not getting notices about messages here, so posting with the Quick Reply which seems to be working fine for me.

Title: Re: Site Upgrade Tonight
Post by: patricia19 on September 01, 2021, 12:45:29 PM
I'm using Windows ten with the Edge browser. When I click the reply button, I see the same form for adding attachments. If I click on the Quick Edit, it turns a slight blueish tint as if it was indented but nothing else. The only way to change a post is to use the modify button. If I try to use the alerts button, it shows nothing, however, sometimes I will see a  Likes afterward. If I click on a like someone else has done, it takes me to a full page with a single or partial sentence at the top.

If I attempt to post a graphic, it either tells me I need to post a written message first. But doing that isn't much help as to whether I try to post a graphic with a title, it tells me either it doesn't show, or I need to post the full four graphics. Then that doesn't work.

Rick, I don't understand what you mean by, "Something to try/check - with no solid reason.  Under VIEW and or ZOOM set it so there is NO zoom, then check."

Idon't, and haven't, used Edge. So I don't know what your options are.
I use FireFox. I would guess other browsers are similar or have similar features.
Fact - the size of the print can be enlarged or shrunk by holding down CTRL and scrolling or hitting the + or- key.
Up top of my browser is File, Edit, View, etc, etc. If I click VIEW a dropdown menu show among other things ZOOM. ZOOM has several selections related to size. I was trying to suggest you set it to NO ZOOM (in my case it says "Actual Size")
I would bet EDGE has a similar feature.  Find it and try it.
I can't recall the reason or logic behind this but a ringing bell in my head says try it.  Can do no harm and might help.

Title: Re: Site Upgrade Tonight

That doesn't work with Edge as there is no on or off with zoom, only a size percentage. But thanks for trying.

Title: Re: Site Upgrade Tonight

Reload anew the browser?
Try S&F with Firefox?
Title: Re: Site Upgrade Tonight
Post by: patricia19 on September 02, 2021, 02:00:09 PM
Here's my summary. I don't want to reload/renew Microsoft's Edge as that means going through the hassle of resetting my computer and downloading everything again. The last time I did that wasn't long ago. I'm sorry, Rick, but your zoom idea didn't work for me.

Using Firefox, Quick Edit still does not work. When I click on someone else's likes, it still takes me to a full page for one single short sentence at the top. When I click upon a like for my posts, it shows a detailed summary of what looks like each like I ever received!

Even posting use the Modifying form.  When I post a graphic, I could post only a single graphic, but the process is different. You cannot simply post a graphic without words. And when I select the graphic, you do not have the insert part of the procedure. Nor do you see your graphic title in the posting box, only under attachments. This means after selecting a graphic; you post not being sure if your graphic is actually there.

I have no issues posting with any other site on my computer.
Title: Re: Site Upgrade Tonight
Post by: Oldiesmann on September 02, 2021, 10:03:26 PM
As far as posting pictures goes, once you attach a file and click "Upload" you will see the option to insert it into the post.

I don't know what to tell you otherwise. Nothing significant changed between versions that should cause any problems.

Next time you visit the site hold down the CTRL key and press R. That will force the browser to reload the graphics and such and may fix the issues (though I don't know why you'd also be experiencing the same issues in Firefox as well).
Title: Re: Site Upgrade Tonight
Post by: patricia19 on September 04, 2021, 02:29:12 PM
Michael, as I previously told you, that option, insert, no longer exists the same as Quick Edit no longer exists, and if I click on a "like" it takes me to another page with one small sentence at the top.

When you put in text in the message box, I am no longer allowed to post a photo or graphic without text; a place opens to browse for a photo or graphic. Once you locate your photo or graphic, it closes, and when you hit the post, you hope your photo or graphic is there.

Since August 27th, there has been no change in the site errors for me.

Michael, the issues I had with quick edits and alerts and or likes have been resolved, thank you. The photo slash graphic issue remains. You cannot post a photo/graphic on its own. You must add text to each post. After you've added text, you browse, click on the photo, and then post what you've selected. There is no longer an insert or acknowledgment that your item will show until you post.

I'm not sure what you mean by needing to add text. If you insert your attachment into the post you shouldn't need to add text - just attach the file then click the appropriate button to insert it into the post.
Title: Re: Site Upgrade Tonight

The buttons are not there. You hit the browse button to go to the area to select a photo. There is no indication in any form that tells you to insert or if the photo will even appear.

You see the photo after you post. There is no insert or any other step between browse, select, and post. If you want to add a photo without text, it stops and in red for error tells you that you need to input text. Many times I want only to post the photo. That used to be simple.

Then after I choose a file I see this:
