Title: Site upgrade
Post by: Oldiesmann on February 12, 2022, 01:19:15 AM
The site has been upgraded to SMF 2.1.1. (2.1 final was released two days ago and they found a problem with older versions of PHP that they needed to fix so 2.1.1 was released yesterday). Nothing new in this version except some bug fixes and other miscellaneous improvements. Those with larger/higher resolution displays will also notice that there's less empty space on the sides - I think things look nicer that way so I tweaked things to make them a bit wider.

I still need to reinstall the country flags feature and add the chat button back to the menu, but everything else should be working fine at this point. As always, let me know if you run into any issues.

Two more things:

I added a logo made by the same guy who made the Christmas theme we use here. He made it a while ago and I forgot about it until recently.

I added a dark theme for those who like darker themes. You can get it by going to the Look and Layout section of your profile (click your name in the upper left corner, then click "Look and Layout"), then click "Change" in the "Current Theme" section at the top and choose the "Blue Evolution" theme. Let me know what you think :)

I'll try it for awhile, Michael.  It's will take some time to get used to it.  If I don't like it I can always switch back to the old theme.  Thanks for giving us the option.  I DO like the new logo.

Many of the members change the font color when they post and some of them are impossible to read on a black background.  Sorry, Michael, I went back to the default background.

There had been one at the bottom also, so that you didn't have to scroll back to the top every time.

Unfortunately there isn't much I can do right now as I'm not home and only have access to the site from my phone. I'll look into it further when I get home tonight. The files are getting uploaded properly though

I thought it was my computer but since I am not the only one...
It is frustrating! It baffles me when things suddenly go wrong.

Michael, I hope you can find the cause and remedy soon.

It's been happening more often.

Still trying to figure out what exactly is going on. I disabled a security thing that I thought might be causing it and even restarted the entire server but neither option fixed the issue. I also tried it with a small icon image on a test site here and the same thing happened, so it's either an issue with recent PHP updates (seems unlikely given that this site and the test site are using different versions of PHP) or something else strange is going on. Hopefully I'll be able to get to the bottom of things soon though.

One further note. Whatever the issue is, the gallery is not affected, so if you want to upload images, use the gallery for now until I figure out why attachments are breaking.

You're welcome. Still trying to figure out exactly what it is about that setting/functionality that caused the issue in the first place (that setting has been enabled for a long time), but at least things are working now.

Upon further investigation, it appears this is related to a bug fix included in the latest version of PHP, which explains why the issue popped up so suddenly. I'll leave compressed output off until we either figure out a workaround or PHP fixes their bug fix :)

Thank you Michael - with a big sigh of relief.
I begin to believe that with computers and their forever changing programs we should always be prepared for unpleasant surprises.
I am glad you could figure it out. Bravo!

A couple of relatively minor updates to the site tonight:
Forum upgraded to 2.1.4 (lots of bugfixes)
TinyPortal upgraded to 2.3.0 (several bugfixes and some new features - the only ones you'll notice are related to the shoutbox - all smileys are now available to be used and avatars are shown as well, though I can turn those off if you want)

As always let me know if you run into any issues :)

One thing I did forget to mention... The interface for uploading attachments has improved some. It should be easier to use and look a bit nicer now.

Smileys aren't going anywhere in the shoutbox. I was saying I can disable the option to show avatars in the shoutbox if you guys prefer, but will leave it enabled unless I hear otherwise :)

wow this is disgusting, I had a nice leingthey post ready to post and hit somengting wrong and the grimlens got and I can not fiend It. I was telling you all about a Man on a ten acer parcel of land. He has his house and a green house on it. He also has severial type's of tees on it.he sells severial thousand $$$ worth of frut's and produce off of it. beside what his owen famlie eats. that is one, also I know about  about a Man in canadia he has a large greanhouse, he leaves the small walk in door open all the time. the picture showes the snow piled up on the sides of it. he keeps some and sells some as bobbie calves or a little larger, except a few to re prudce the cow heard. the boddie heat of the cattle heat the grean house. he has trays in racks. where he puts barley seeads and sprouts it and roles up and feeds it to the cattle along with some other dry feed. he sells milk and makes cheeze's and sells it also. I also know of a famley started in in south Mo. started out on ten acers bult the home in then, raised all sort of anamels a few at a time.and gradualy got more livestock and added to the land. they now owen a much larger lot of land and cattle. and built a a larger house and I think are out of debt. so it can be done. just takes a lot of hard work and love for each other, they also have raised there children, and helped them through collage. this may not be completley corect but is close. havea good day. I my self have been up and down the ladder Made a lot of mastakes. I was the oldes of three boy's. my dad was murdered and mom mooved us from bluwesprings to strasuburg mo. we rented a small house for $30.00 a monh. and later took a 1$ a month rase and bought it. I mowde yards delivered gorcers and papers to older folks in town, my middle brother got the paper rout and I wentto woork in the blacksmith shop.learned how to forge weld and shapen plowe shears. when I was 16 years old my mother had met and fell in love with a nice man and Married him, the two younger boys went with her to her new home. and I got a job with a locial farmer in the aeria and went to live and help him on his farm, doing farm choyers , and milking cows. that i a enough for now.

Lloyd
