A GIFT OF LOVE
Time is not measured by the years that you live
But by the deeds that you do and the joy that you give...
And each day as it comes brings a chance to each one
To live to the fullest, leaving nothing undone
That would brighten the life or lighten the load
Of some weary traveler lost on life's road ...
So what does it matter how long we may live
If as long as we live we unselfishly give.

1. The Leaf people
2. The Branch people
3. The Root people
𝐋𝐄𝐀𝐅 𝐏𝐄𝐎𝐏𝐋𝐄: ☘️🍁🌿
These are people who come into your life just for a season. You can't depend on them because they are weak. They only come to take what they want, but if the wind comes they will leave.
You need to be careful of these people because they love you when things are okay, but when the wind comes, they will leave you.
𝐁𝐑𝐀𝐍𝐂𝐇 𝐏𝐄𝐎𝐏𝐋𝐄: 🌴🎋🌴
They are strong, but you need to be careful with them too. They break away when life becomes tough, and they can't handle too much weight. They may stay with you in some seasons, but they will go when it becomes harder.
𝐑𝐎𝐎𝐓 𝐏𝐄𝐎𝐏𝐋𝐄: 🌳🌲🌳
These people are very important because they don't do things to be seen. They are supportive even if you go through a difficult time they will water you and they are not moved by your position they just love you like that ...
It's not all people you meet or are your friends, that will stay with you.
Only the root type of people will stay no matter the season.
I don't believe that the big men, the politicians and the capitalists alone are guilty of the war. Oh, no, the little man is just as keen, otherwise the people of the world would have risen in revolt long ago! There is an urge and rage in people to destroy, to kill, to murder, and until all mankind, without exception, undergoes a great change, wars will be waged, everything that has been built up, cultivated, and grown, will be destroyed and disfigured, after which mankind will have to begin all over again.

I have to say that the dog makes me think of a big bunch of bananas.
Good Morning everyone.
Good morning...
Another busy day here. Starting out at 60° but heading to the 90's. We did have a nice rain = more humidity. :(
Bubble thank you for the new start.I enjoyed it all, especially that of HSRice.
Patricia, happy to read you had a wonderful birthday.
Jane, I have more beans to pick but first have to find a home for the 6qt plus that I picked on Tue.
Jenny, we said goodbye to Babe on July 2.
MG, do you thing it could be this breed of dog? :))
https://be.chewy.com/dog-breed/komondor/
Better get the day going.
Enjoy your day and stay safe.
:hello: :cup:
Could be, Amy. It is called a Komondor. It is often trained as a sheep dog. Can't imagine why. ;)
Copying last night's post because we switched to the new one right after I posted it and I'm not sure anyone saw it.
Good Evening/Morning,
Wi-fi kept going out on computer so this is the first time I've had to reply to those watching the Olympics. I've binge-watched swimming and gymnastics - and some diving. Will probably watch other things but don't have a schedule of what goes on when.
Jane, I used to freeze packages of fresh green beans for the family; steamed them in microwave before packaging them. However, I have a much smaller freezer now and just get enough to make several meals for only me. They're best here in June and I didn't think to order any or ask my Shopper to get them this year. Wish I had some to fix with ham.
Marsgal, I once heard noise at night on my patio. Turned on the light and two young raccoons looked up at me like "Yes? You wanted something?" :) A neighbor recently told me she walked out on her patio early one morning and there was a skunk asleep in a corner. I think she quietly closed the door! ;)
Denver, #2 son/wife flew to Denver last Thursday for the Kenny Chesny concert. They went to some pizza place in Idaho Springs for lunch on Friday. He sent me a picture of the bump-to-bumper traffic headed west (they were headed east) and said it was like that from Idaho Springs to "where the buffalo used to be". He said that was usual for 3:00 p.m. on Fridays - people heading for the weekend in the mountains. I wondered what the tunnel was like!!
Sleep well, Everyfriend and have pleasant dreams. Have a Good Day, Everyfriend!
Good Morning for the next 20 minutes. If you read this after that....Good Afternoon!!
I finished the canning! I have 6 quarts and 7 pints! That will last me a while. And Cathy just came by with a bag of coffee and a ham. So the rest of the beans will be in a ham and beans pot. CALLIE, youre welcome to join me if that perks up your tast! I think it will be served on Saturday or Sunday!
Next on m agenda is lunch. I have some leftovers in the fridge. I'll just have to decide which ones I want to eat!
Also, I think Cooper is over whatever it was that was bugging his system! he seems to be back to normal but I think he!s wondering why we're not offering him food every minute of the day any more. He's become a follower and a watcher
CA::OE. I grew up on canned green beans and I can just barely tolerate the frozen ones. I still love the canned ones and as long as I can do this, I will!
I butter look for some lunch and then get something else done. Maybe I'll put the ham in the slow cooker and it will be ready to do beans when I am? Then again...maybe I won't. We shall see!
I wish you all a good day! Grab it and make it your own in every way!
Good morning, nine AM here, and it's cloudy with some rain to return, late afternoon.
Bubble, I saved the three types of people and I found the quote from Anne Frank both true and poignant, how many people were and are needlessly killed for their color, their sexuality or their religion? What humanity lost by their deaths is incalculable.
Callie, I'm not a TV watcher, haven't owned one since 1997, but with YouTube, I've enjoyed the Olympics. Particularly, the men's and women's gymnastics! Simone Biles is a phenomenon. She does this little run and then does four flips in a row that's unreal. Jordan Chiles is another one with an astonishing leap high in the air and the rest of her program was amazing after hearing she had a bad injury just before the Olympics.
We don't have skunks or raccoons here, but I've seen them, and possums in the lower 48. The only snake I've seen in the wild, and I lived in numerous Southern states, was a large black snake crossing a road. Two years in Kentucky, living in the hills, and not one showed up for me.
We don't have some of the more nasty smaller creatures, no ticks, biting flies nor lice, but we consider the mosquito Alaska's state bird...
When I was younger, with a family and work, I used to meal prep before it was a thing, and canned and prepared most of what we ate. A military wife has to be careful with both the finances and food shopping, or at least I did. After I was on my own and after retirement, I had to break myself of the habit of preserving and making large meals. I still cook once and freeze for two more, it's ingrained.
Jane, I'm glad that Cooper is healthy again. Farrah has been doing that, following me around as I quit buying her treats. She had gotten to the point of not eating her regular food. While she's picky, but eating her food again, she still gets excited when I come in with bags.
Hi, MG!
Jenny, while my paternal relatives are in Missouri and Washington State, my maternal ones are in the Oklahoma City area, and in Colorado by Grand Junction. They were all farming until my generation.
Amy, I did have a wonderful one, plenty of friends calling or visiting and that chocolate cake I was loath to share, but I did, pats self on back...
I am ready to say UNCLE with this hot weather!! Hung laundry out and brought it back in less than a hour!!
Beans picked, beans delivered and more in the fridge! This has been a good year for beans!
Jane, I meant to tell you I met a lady from PA in Timmies! As we were waiting for our beverages we chatted and she is from the area of the Pokanos.
MG, wolves, coyotes can't bite into that fur. Most folks that have sheep have a Great Pyrenees as a guard dog. One place we drive by has the GP out with the sheep and if they are all laying down you really have to look for the dog!
https://be.chewy.com/dog-breed/great-pyrenees/
One year I was helping my friend in her restaurant, one of the regulars said he was looking after his daughters dog....a GP. I came home and said to Kyle that Wally has a great pyrenees and Kyle asked my why I was looking at Wally's knees!!! :2funny:
Town is a bees nest, sardine can , once we get our "stuff" done tomorrow I am staying home!!
Good morning...
Another busy day in the making. Ordered #3 cucumbers from the Mennonite market and will pick them up after we drop the garbage off. Laundry is on the go and the garden is being watered by the sprinkler. Still have to do hand watering but it can wait for a bit.
Jane, I do wish you were closer!! Ran a bag of beans over to the neighbour and so far he is not runnig away he sees me coming with beans........yet!
Better put an egg in my boot and beat it...time seems to go faster than I do lately.
Enjoy your day and stay safe.
Yesterday's catch at my sister's house was a cat, the other trap was empty. Sue thinks the pest control guy let the cat loose. She didn't see him, but he only had an empty trap in his truck. You know me, I fretted over that cat. I was/am worried that these guys will dispose of cats too, and not release them or take them to the humane society. Hope it was let loose. I could have been someone's pet. Lots of people still leave their cats out at night.
With trepidation, I used the oven. It's the first time in years and years I used an oven. It was only a
frozen pizza, but the controls were even more extensive than the oven I rarely used at the house. Now that I have a set of pizza pans and a new cookie/baking sheet (with rack), I have my eye on replacing the glass saucepans I have. Glass is not recommended for this stovetop. The cats have new mats for under their water dishes. I've put one in this room as well as the kitchen because Oscar has been spending much of his time in here, and I've taken to feeding him in here so I can shut the door for him to have peace while eating. Shan consistently pushes Oscar aside to get at food that he is not allowed to have, leaving his dish for later. It makes life a little easier than standing over the cats and dishes and arguing with Shan. Unfortunately, he does often try to squeeze past me when I open the door.
I've been trying out different foods on Oscar again. There aren't any wet cat foods specially for liver problems here in the US. I have not resorted to cooking up Chicken livers yet, but Oscar does get to share tuna, salmon and sardines when I open a people can. He also gets fresh cooked chicken when I do it.
Since he likes the broth and gravy types, I have on order some containers of broth for cats to include with his fresh cooked meals. Too bad Shan can't have any because it will foul up his pH levels. What a challenge when you have one cat who is on the verge of overweight and one that needs to keep his weight up.
Whew! This has been one busy day! And I have to watch Cooper every minute of the time1. He has hookworm and has to be watched every minute of every day. That will be my job for the next week because Frankie will be going on vacation with her mother. I was afraid she'd think she had to cancel but she' going to go! So If I'm not here, I'm watching, walking or loving up a doggie this coming week! Take care Everyfriend!
Knock, knock.
Who is there?? :cup:
Good morning..
Another busy day ahead, one does not have to look for work it is staring you in the face! Grass needs cutting again but maybe it can wait till Mon?? Will play that one by ear.
Cucumbers are all cut up and laundry was done yesterday . Just need to tidy up
in here and clean bathrooms. Maybe, just maybe get some time in the sewing room.
Enjoy your day and stay safe.
Good Morning! Cooper and I had a good night together. We've had our walk this morning and we both had our breakfast! I'm just finishing my coffed while I have a chat with friend and then its back to work!
AMY, I'm thinking that it isnt that there's MORE work to do these days. Its just that it takes me twice as long to get a job done right!
I finished the beans and the last canner full was jars of already cooked ham and beans all ready for a meal! Now that job is DONE for this year!
I think my canner REALLY OLD pressure canner has decided to quit and I'm wondering if I'm too old to have a new one. I've been looking at them on line and in stores for a while now but there isn't anyone to pass it on to and I don't know how many more times I'll use it! Oh well, I'll think about it!
Now I better go put stuff away and get this day moving. I wish you all a good one! Make it your own in every way! But pop back in an tell us what you did!
Quote from: MarsGal on August 01, 2024, 06:21:26 AMthe dog makes me think of a big bunch of bananas.
My thought too.
No one :'(
Passes Rick a tissue to dry your tears. :tissue:
Beans are picked (again) 5 huge zuchinnies still cuddled under the leaves in the garden. Dog laundry soon to be hung on the line and beans to be canned or frozen.
Jane, I give a lot of pickles etc away..but have cut back on a lot that I used to do. We just don't eat as much anymore? :dontknow:
It is nice to see that canning is still popular. I confined myself to jams and pickles. I did make tomato sauce, but I don't remember if I canned it. I had a lovely "French" grinder that ground the tomato up whole, no having to peel the tomatoes. Had a wonderful recipe for strawberry/pineapple jam. Freezer only. My big weekly event year round was baking every Wednesday: bread, cookies, pies, cakes, and the occasional Severin and homemade pasta.
So, after this lunch break I go back to putting together my new TV console. Right now it looks like a dead insect on its back, legs sticking up.
MG,
Well, bedtime is approaching for me! Cooper is already in bed. I have a couple things to finish up before I can hit the sack but I'm getting to the point where I'm ready to just throw in the towel. I'm tired right down to my toes!
Cooper and I took a lot of walks today and I guess he's tired too because he went in the bedroom and barked for me to come and remove the stack from his jump up box! I did and now I'm with him.
I wish you all a peaceful nights sleep and a happy tomorrow. Make the day your own in every way and don't forget to stop by and tell us how you did that! We miss you when you don't show up!
Good morning...
Starting out at 60° and mostly a sunny day. A few need to do things then coast for the day.
Crows must have company for this long weekend, called them and seven stopped in for breakfast.
Jane, I agree, takes me longer too! Doesn't help that I am easily side tracked too.
MG, what is Severin? Did you get your dead bug to look like a tv console? :2funny:
Rick, I don't know about you but Oak Island can start anytime now! Bet it won't start until Nov!
Bubble, we say a lot(complain) about our temps but I bet you can beat us all with the temp there!
Better get the day started.
Enjoy your day and stay safe.
Good Morning Everyfriend!! It's 73 and Cloudy out there right now. Cooper had his walk and I'm doing church on line this morning!
I wish you all a good one! Make it your own in every way!
Quote from: Amy on August 04, 2024, 06:19:27 AMRick, I don't know about you but Oak Island can start anytime now! Bet it won't start until Nov!
I was thinking more like October. Will have to see what my son thinks. He's the biggest fan around here.
A bit damp out there this morning. Two or three T storms went through last night. Sounded like one lightning strike was VERY close. When I get inspired I'll go out and look around.
I'm not a TV watcher, but I decided to look up your show's starting date. I hope this is the right TV show?
The Curse of Oak Island Season 12: The Fellowship is finally returning to work on the island
"Fans of The Curse of Oak Island will be pleased to hear that work has finally begun on the island for Season 12, which is expected to air in November.
The History Channel and The Curse of Oak Island social media accounts have not made any official announcements about the Lagina brothers' arrival on the island, but they never do.
Work on the island usually starts in earnest in April or May, and last year, filming continued until the first week of November, which is quite impressive considering the first episode of Season 11 aired on November 7.
The show and its cast members like to keep things hush-hush, but thankfully, there are spies up in Nova Scotia.
A personal blog run by a nearby resident of Nova Scotia keeps the world updated from their social media account, Oak Island From The Other Side of The Causeway. From their position on the other side of the causeway, they post pictures of the comings and goings on the island.
Operations on Oak Island are reportedly 'ramping up'
Recently, the account has stated that it was pretty quiet on the island, and there was no sign of any cast members. However, this week, they posted pics of multiple vehicles at the Curse of Oak Island base of operations.
They wrote, "Guess things are finally ramping up! At least there are vehicles on site today!" The Oak Island From The Other Side of The Causeway account has not yet spotted any cast members, and neither Rick nor Marty Lagina have made any announcements. Neither brother is active on social media.
Gary Drayton and other Oak Island cast members have not yet been spotted on the island
The only very active cast member on social media is metal detectorist Gary Drayton, who regularly posts videos and pics of his day-to-day treasure-hunting activities. However, he keeps his cards metaphorically close to his chest and never lets on about what is happening in Oak Island.
Gary spends most of the winter months in Florida hunting for treasure along the beaches. And if his recent social media posts are to be believed, he is still on the southeast coast.
The metal detectorist posted a pic of a Florida beach just last week and claimed he spent "Saturday morning working in the office."
Some cast and crew members, such as Scott Barlow, Laird Niven, and Charles Barkhouse, live in the area and often start work earlier than the Laginas, who must come from Michigan. Perhaps the locals are already well on the way to solving the over 200-year-old mystery.
The Curse of Oak Island Season 12 is expected to return in November 2024 on History.
MG, I sent you a DM.
Got it Patricia. Good thing I don't need those any more.
Amy, I think I spelled it wrong. If I could remember how to spell it right, I'd look it up. The recipe I used was one of Jacques Pepin's. Ah, hah! Found it once I looked up yeast cake. It is Savarin. I don't have the cookbook anymore. Shame on me. I just loved it. His recipes came with step-by-step color photos. As I recall, I kneaded the dough, and I don't remember using a Bundt pan like a lot of the recipes I see now. But then, my memory is a bit faded. Jacques Pepin is 88 now His foundation is worth noting. https://jp.foundation/
Good morning..
Nice rain here....gets me out of the job of watering the garden.
We have some running around to do ,taking some beans and zucchinis to a friend who is also going to pass them around. I checked the plants yesterday and the beans will need to be picked again! Can't pick them when it is wet though.
MG, thank you. I looked that up and oh my that cake sounds and looks good! May have to try that one. Thank you.
Patricia, I had hoped I was wrong but if memory served me it was Nov last year also. Our friends that surprised us with the load of wood have been to Oak Island and saw all the treasures they have come up with.
Better get this day started.
Enjoy your day and stay safe.
Good Morning Everyfriend! This day is off and running! I was up and dressed and moving before Cooper decided to get up! But he's up and attem now and asking for a walk. Or maybe he just hears something out there. But is is over by the door! I have no plans for today but I'm sure SOMETHING will demand attention!
I wish you all a good day...better than yesterday but not as good as tomorrow!
Good morning, we're finally back into sunshiny blue skies and NO WIND OR RAIN, which is such a relief. Today's high will be eighty-six or higher.
Amy, Rick, I'm intrigued, is it lost pirate treasure or Spanish? Or yet another type entirely? It sounds historical that's being manipulated for ratings.
Today, my meet and greets and regular chores are finished and coffee is well in hand.
I'm looking at another day of possible laundry and replacing my 12 inch and 8 inch skillets. I may also donate my cast iron fry pans, as they're very heavy for me to lift now. My ceramic coated cast iron pan and Dutch Oven are considerably lighter.
MG, you are still re-organizing and decluttering too, I see. It must be so different in a new place. I have been here since 2013, and it's going to be my last, I think.
Jane, it sounds as if Cooper is doing better, thankfully.
Quote from: patricia19 on August 05, 2024, 01:01:26 PMAmy, Rick, I'm intrigued, is it lost pirate treasure or Spanish? Or yet another type entirely? It sounds historical that's being manipulated for ratings.
"manipulated for ratings" - Could be, and (to me) likely. But the expenses they must encounter have to be through the roof. Many others have been there before them, also searching for the supposed treasure. It amazes, and baffles, me as to what they have found - and how it might have gotten there.
Thanks Rick.
Interesting, I'll have to search for what started the quest.
Patricia, yes. I brought things I discovered don't fit or intend to replace soon but needed in the short term, and left things I discovered I could still use here. There is stuff like the old pans I left and am buying as I see the need, like a new cookie sheet, new pizza pans, and soon to buy a two new saucepans which will replace the glass saucepans I can't use with this stove. New furniture as my budget allows, most prominently a new bed frame and mattress, a twin this time to replace the full size with its now too heavy mattress and box springs. Anyone care to comment of those new memory foam/gel mattresses? Who ever heard of a mattress in a box?
I've seen those. You take them out of the box, you can get various types of inflating pressure, and they inflate on their own.
CASPER - is a memory foam, comes rolled up in a box. Once you cut it loose you won't get it back in that box. My wife bought one and used it - now I use it because my old mattress died. It is one of their original ones and I find it quite comfortable.
Hello there Everyfriend! I read all the entries and found them very interesting! However, I don't have any comments to make on them! Thins has been a strange day. I said that I didn't know where it was going. Well I found out. My air conditioner quit! I had it turned on and it came on when I turned it on but sometime along the way, it quit! It took me a while to notice it and when I did, I remembered that the guy who had fixed it the last time had retired. I called Cathy to see if she knew someone and she did. He came and fixed it!! Hallelujah!
Now I'm hitting the hay! I'm worn to a frazzle!! Good night! Sweet Dreams to Everyfrien!
Good Morning to me! I'm off to get ready for a Dr. Appt! Wherever your all are and whatever you are all doing, I wish you a happy day!
I'm late looking in, but I am looking in. Good luck with the Doc.
Cancelled mine due to bad T Storm/flooding forecast.
Good morning, all my plans are canceled, as late yesterday they sent out a notice that all water would be off today and intermittently all week. I spent last night filling three large containers with tap water and brushed my teeth and got everything ready early before seven this morning.
Last night's high was 89 and this morning's low was 62. Today will also bring wind gusts and possibly more fires. However, the 8th, will cool temperatures down into the sixties with off and on rain until September.
With nothing available to do around here, I may wander around downtown and spend a little.
I just checked the weather. It is now pouring rain. Weather tracking has us right in the middle of the storm. Lots of wind, lots of flooding with these hurricanes and remnants coming up from along the coast.
We've got it here too. Cats and dogs ---
Good Night, Everyfriend! I'm just about ready to hit the haystack! I'm tired right up the Gazoo! Aslo right down to my toes! Have a good one!
Good morning...
I was so busy in the morning and too tired to turn the computer on at night yesterday. We had an early start to the day. Alarm set for 4 am but we were up at 3:30. Loaded the van with wheelchair and walker plus items for Bri and set off at 5 am. Kyle's first appointment went well but the second one was for 9:30 but didn't happen to 11. Neighbour checked on Jesse for us so we didn't have to worry about him.
Today is coast.after I cut the grass .
Enjoy your day and stay safe.
Oh, oh! That storm last evening wasn't even part of Debbie. She is moving ever so slow. Tracking has us right in the middle of it all when she does arrive. We shall see what happens then. We are overdue for our every 20 year storm with big-time flooding. The two I can remember are Hurricane Hazel (when I was a kid) which shredded a huge nearby Poplar tree and Hurricane Agnes in 1971 or so. That one came with three days without a functioning sewage and/or water pumping station. We managed at the apartment by filling jerry cans full of water from my Ex's Mom's place. She had an old outdoor pump which she used to water her garden. The water wasn't drinkable, but it worked for flushing the toilet.
Not sure what I am going to get into today. I've been putting off attempting to put the new sofa table/bookshelf together because my back has been acting up. I may have to find someone to do it for me. I do still have some books to reshelf and room for a few nick-knacks as long as they are cat proof. My new saucepans are on order.
Good Morning Friends! It got down into the mid 60s overnight and is only up to 67 now. It says it's going to satay cloudy wih with a high of 77. I'll take it!!!
Today is a laundry and catch up day. I have a shrimp casserole in mind to baake but don't know if I'll get to it. I wish you all a good one and no major storms in your area! Do whatever suits your fancy!
Rain! RAin! And more RAin!! AND DEBBY HAS HARDLY EVEN moved. The center isn't even supposed to be over us until tomorrow. The grass is green again but tall and the creek is definitely rising! We have prepared all that we can so now we will just wait with fingers crossed....and everything else that can be crossed.
Take care, all.
WEll, I didn't do any laundry today! I had a haircut appointment this afternoon and Cathy took my shopping list and put stuff in a cart while I was in the hair salon! I did tak a look at a new canner but I didn't buy it. I'm going to check them out on line again and see if I really want to spend the money or just give up canning. Right now, I'd say I don't want to give up canning but who knows what my body will be telling me!
PATRICOA. O jp[e tje jeavu womds dpm
t jot wjere upi are/ Tjeu passed up by and I'm thankful!
I'm staying up until I finish my eye drops for today. So I wish you all a good night! And I wish you a good tomorrow!
PATROCOa, Sorry about that mess! It should say....
I hope the storm doesn't hit where you are
Good morning...
So much for having a coasting day yesterday. Managed to get the grass cut still trimming to do. picked the beans ,watered the garden two trips to town for Kyles meds and pick up moo juice and hen fruit.
Today is blood work and xray but at least he can do that here. Have some pork tenderloin that will be made into schnitzel and then vacuumed seal and into the freezer it goes.
MG ,how is it going with your table and bookshelf? Your cats are going to love their new found toy......the box the items came in. Why is it one buys toys ets and the cats love the empty boxes. Seems to be the same with children at Christmas.
Patricia, are you back into warmer weather and without rain?
Phyllis.....more rain = more grass to cut. I cut ours yesterday but being a few days late I also had to rake the windrows up and put the clipping in the compost .
Jane, how is Cooper feeling? Maybe there is a smaller canner you can get?
Rick, are you getting any residue from Debbie?
Better get this day on the go.
Enjoy your day and stay safe.
Good Morning Everyfriend! We're having ampther rainy one! with a flood watch in sight!
I got a lot done yesterday but most of it doesn't show! The trip to the dr. was a success. He says I'm healthy and when I added "for an old lady" he said "For one much younger than you are!
Today is a "whatever comes" day! Cooper and I have had our breakfast and we took a productive walk and now he's telling me he hears things.
I wish you all a good day! Make it your own in every way and pop in and share it with us! We miss you when you stay away!
Quote from: Amy on August 08, 2024, 06:47:08 AMRick, are you getting any residue from Debbie?
I believe Debbie is starting to make her presence known. I woke to sunshine, but now that is gone. The weather man says we are in for two more days of rain --- starting now.
Cats - great pets - always seem to prefer boxes or bags over what we think they should like. Don't try to out guess a cat.
Good morning, a foggy day here after it rained overnight. August is normally our cool down month, and it's not forecast above the sixties again. Rain is forecast for two days of each week throughout the month. The late seventies and eighties we had for the first seven days of August were a welcome surprise but won't return until next summer.
Since the water was turned off Tuesday and maybe off intermittently the rest of this week, laundry and plants have been put off, with plants scheduled for today. I also haven't seen any improvement in the water temperatures.
I agree about cats, especially ex-ferals and those having been abused. Farrah, who will be twelve next month, spent the first six months hiding and the last six years rolling on her back and demanding only the good stuff or treats.
I had to stop the treats because she was refusing to eat her regular food. She has two cat trees, that she suddenly stopped using last month. I thought it was age related, but I've seen her jump as high on other furniture.
OKay! Another day is gone! I got a lot done today including a batch of "Jim's Egg Thingys". That'll be my breakfast tomorrow and for several days to come! Some of them went in the freezer to have when company shows up and some are in the fridge to be gobbled down NOQ!
Cooper and I had 4 nice long walks between the storms! We only got a couple sprinkles on us when we were almost home. After one of the walks, Cathy was here waiting for us to get back. She brought the eggs from the store and worked on my computer. Then we sat and talked a bit!
I did some other stuff but I forget what. It was a busy day! I hope you and your families are all feeling better or staying well! Try to stay out of the way of the storms. It's ok to get wet but don't blow away!
This is a strange August around here. It's usually HOT and HUMID and so far it isn't either!
I better put in my last eye drops and get ready to hit the hay. Cooper is already in bed! I still have a couple odds and ends to finish up. I wish you all a peaceful night's sleep and a happy day tomorrow. Be sure to share it with us. We miss you if you don't! Good Night! Sweet Dreams!

You haven't been getting those 90's?
Good morning..
Light rain this morning and we do have weather warnings out for flooding in some areas. We are fine where we are .
Yesterday was fun, frustrating and busy!! No blood work done so will wait till Mon, no xray but did get an appointment for tomorrow. No haircut but that will happen next week.
Today is oil change and vacuuum seal the schnitzels. Will make some baked beans and if time permits get some pasty made. Who ever said you will have lots of time when you retire fibbed!!!!
Jane, enjoy your day with Cooper..
Rick , I would gladly share the 90°'s with anyone that wants them.
Patricia, the rattle of the treat bags will get Jesse's attention. Should I linger at "special" treat time he will tell me and he has a big bark!
Better get this day on the go.
Enjoy your day and stay safe.
Good Morning Everyfriend! We're up and attem and I'm sure glad Cooper can hold "it"! We went out this morning when it was just slightly sprinkling and we didn't even make it past one house until the thunder and lightning came and brought torrents of rain with it. We ran for home! Now I'm watching for the next break so we can take our morning walk! It's still thundering!
RICK, we did not get the 90s! I haven't had the A/C on for at least 6 days!
I think it's slowing. I better get a closer watch! I wish you all a great day@
By the way! The puddles are taking over the road and even some places in yards!
Quote from: Amy on August 09, 2024, 06:31:41 AMLight rain this morning and we do have weather warnings out for flooding in some areas. We are fine where we are .
Same here ----.
"Rick , I would gladly share the 90°'s with anyone that wants them." Don't send them here. Not wanted.
We had the same, steady rain last night and today. For the remainder of August, rain is forecast for at least two days out of each week, and the five local rivers are already at bank full.
We still have flood warnings here but I'm not in a flood area. The sun was shining earlier and Cooper and I took a walk and half way out it started to rain hard. He took off for home but had to stop on the way. We were both soaked by the time we were in the house.
I did get the laundry done today and now I'm ready to hit the sack! I think Cooper is already there. He thinks that when he comes in from his trip to the yard and has his goodies it's time to go to bad and that's what he does! Frankie will be back in Maryland tomorrow and home sometime Sunday. He is going to be so excited to see her!
I wish you all a peaceful night's sleep and a happy tomorrow. Come by and see us! We miss you when you stay away!
GOOD NIGHT!
Good morning..
Starting out at 55° and no rain but thanks to Debbie the garden doesn't need watering. Busy morning xray at 10:15am but hope Kyle can get his haircut before that. Laundry , another step to do in the icicle pickles and if I can get freestone peaches at the Mennonite market while out I will can some.
Jane, sometimes when raining I let Jesse out and he turns right around and comes back in....guess he didn't have to go that bad. Now Buddy our Dalmation x Dane didn't like to get his feet wet and would jump over puddles!
Rick, can't say as I blame you, thank goodness for a/c. The a/c is over 24 years old and if it broke another one would be put in .
Patricia, our weather has been interesting but what I have noticed lately is the geese and on their training flights with their young.I think this is early. Jesse is losing his fur........are they telling us early winter??
Enjoy your day and stay safe.
Good Morning Everyfriend and especially AMY who seems to be the only one in here yet today!
I've gotten a lot of stuff done including feeding and walking Cooper and cleaning out the fridge! It was more than time for that job! My family is on the way to the airport in California and then heading home sometime this afternoon. Frankie will be here to pick up Cooper tomorrow my guess is late afternoon because she'll be driving up from Maryland. If I know her, she won't leave there until at least noon!
The rest of my day will be doing "stuff". I'm not sure what but I know there's stuff hollering for attention!
This coming Wednesday, I need a trip to the Farmers Market! I have a bunch of stuff on my list. Maybe Sarah can go! Sarah is my DIL and she loves the Farmers Market!
Guess I better get back to work! Cooper is in the doorway watching me! I wish you all a good day...better than yesterday. Make it your own in every way!
Good morning, it's still raining Although the clouds have gone from black to gray, to white, so I guess the forecast is correct in saying we'll have a cloudy day with rain returning overnight and on Sunday.
Amy our first snow comes generally around Halloween, but in the past two years has come in mid-October. And while rain and cooler temperatures are normal August weather, the continual rain is not.
It's particularly hard in the bush as small towns and villagers who use the rivers as highways need to do winter preparations during high waters, bank erosion and fallen trees and other debris hidden in the current. This has been a year for records with fires, heat, and precipitation.
I know my arthritis has been bad this week, with leg pains sometimes waking me in the middle of the night.
Some old folklore is to watch the squirrel, mice and other small animals, if they are busier than usual, thicker spider webs and even thicker skins on onions.
Here is an old weather rhyme, "For every day of fog in August, there will be a snowfall.
If the first week in August is unusually warm, the coming winter will be snowy and long.
If a cold August follows a hot July, it foretells a winter hard and dry. (Yes, the rhyme is part of the saying.)"
Jane, I know Cooper will be glad to see Jackie. You and Amy, have been busy canning and prepping for winter and my tastes are increasingly turning to more protein, stews and gravies. And Farrah is eating more with a heavier coat.
Domeone is out there shooting off firecrackers and every time one goes off, Cooper Barks.
PATRICIA, Cooper's "Mom's name is Frankie ( a nickname for Frances).
They are in the air on the way home to Baltimore and should be there sometime around 9 tonight. They're going to be worrn out and ready for bed!
Someone is out there shooting off fireworks. I don't think today is any kind of holiday. They must have come up with som leftovers from the Fourth of July!
All the puddles are drying up around here but they are still saying the river is in flood stage! And that stage is expected to be around and not begin to subside until the middle of the night! Someone said some of the streets in town are flooded!
I'm heading for the haystack pretty soon. I'm tired and the only thing that will wake me is a text that my family has arrived safely in Maryland! I wish you all a peaceful night's sleep and a happy tomorrow! Have a good day!
Jane, I apologize. I knew it was Frankie, but somehow it became Jackie and I didn't catch it before posting.
Good morning...
Welcome a day of rest! Yestrday evrything fell into place, xrays done, laundry done, cleaning done and picking more beans done! Almost forgot..Kyle got his haircut....finally!!
Today I hope to cut fabric for another quilt..will see how that goes.
We did get a light rain yesterday and expect more tonight.
Patricia, way back then they didn't have the information we have today and relied on the information passed down from others. Another one I used to watch was when the cattle and horses got their winter coats. Sems the animals are better at predicting weather than man is. Our first snow comes also in Oct but more to the end of it.
Jane ,enjoy the excitement to Frankie and Cooper catching up on lost time.
Enjoy your day and stay safe..
Good Morning Everyfriend! I'm just about to hit the shower and get ready for a trip to church this morning. Cathy will drop me off and my friend, Judy, will probably bring me home. I always have at least 3 offers of rides home and sometimes as many as 6 offers. They all know I don't drive any more!
Cooper is asting odd today. You don't suppose he has an idea that his Mom is on the way here, now do you?
PATRICIA, you're not the only one who calls Frankie by the wron name sometimes. She's used to it!
AMY, you sure did make a lot of progress yesterday! Let's see if you get going on a quilt today!
I better get moving too or I won't be ready when Cathy gets here. I wish you all a good day. We're having a cold one! It's only 62 out there!
Good morning all. Looks like we'll be having a nice day. Hopefully the string of 90's is gone, at least for a while.
"Cooper is acting odd today." I do believe they can sense when something is afoot.
Good morning, another day of steady rain with a present low of 49. This week, our two days of sunshine are said to be Wednesday and Thursday. So far, the forecasts have been accurate, with two days of no rain each week.
Jane, I'm still sorry, I usually do a better job of proofreading before posting. I do believe that animals sense emotions chemically. Humans do too, but it is a more odd feeling as we've become "civilized" and no longer rely on instincts. Anymore, I rely on my arthritis.
Amy, here many look at when animals go to dens. Another barometer is when the birds gather from the wildlife refuge and sanctuary in preparation for migrating. Hundreds of birds will gather to rest and to feed on the grain spread out on the field for them. Lynx are more apt to be seen, and moose move across the rivers into city limits for protection against the wolves.
I know that feeling of accomplishment after a day when everything comes together. Here's hoping we all have more of those. Currently, I'm trying to keep the momentum going by not slacking on the day to day upkeep.
Well, I'm heading for the haystack alone tonight. Frankie picked up Cooper and took him home with her to spend the night. He'll be back tomorrow morning when she heads for work but we're back to days only again. It's going to be a quiet night tonight!
I ate my supper tonight without a begger at my feet! It sort of felt funny! And I took my last walk of the day all by myself! And that felt funny, too!
I wish you all a peaceful night's sleep and a happy day tomorrow! Come by and share it with us! We miss you when you're not around!
Good morning...
Starting out at 56° with rain in the forecast. Listening to the roosters crow and the crows cawing at the moment. Yesterday I saw the geese a on the neighbours lawn and waited to see if the little dogs (smaller than the geese) would put the run on them. Nope, there was the neighbour chasing after them with his arms flapping. Geese just went ahead of him but didn't take flight, not like they did when the dogs put the run on them. When I see my neighbour I will ask if he too was practicing for a long flight. :2funny:
Early this morning will see if blood work can be done then pick up a few things in town then home to deal with pickles,Thurs will be the last day for them.
Jane, enjoy your day with Cooper. He will be ready for treats and walks with you! I did manage to get part of a quilt cut out. The fabric I am using contains a secret..it has mature dandelions and during the day they are just white on blue background but at night...they glow!!
Patricia, we can learn a lot by animals and our surroundings. I wish I had your momentum. Lately I run out before I am ready!!
Enjoy your day and stay safe.
Good Morning Everyfriend...and especially AMY who is up and about already! I've had my breakfast and I'm ready for Cooper's arrival!
AMY, I'm slowing down on the canning. I've decided that it's time to do only things I know I need and will use. At aga 89 they could be let sitting in there on the shelf wondering what to do with themselves when I go off and leave them! Good luck with yur pickles!
Sounds like those geese found themselves a resting place and didn't plan on leaving until they were ready!
Guess I better finish my coffee and get ready for Cooper's arrival! I wish you all a good day...better than yesterday. Make it your own in every way and don't forget to share it with us. We miss you!
Good morning, another dreary, rainy day at our low of fifty. Meet and greets were sounding the same tune with everyone first sick of the heat and now sick of the rain.
Coffee's finished brewing and Farrah's gone off to sulk. She didn't like her breakfast and when it went away, she kept watching and trying to herd me back to the cat food cupboard. She'll have to make do with the dry food always in her bowl.
I hope everyone has a good, productive, enjoyable day.
I was just about to fall asleep in front of the TV so I decided to come in here and check my email and check out with you all before I go to sleep and forget it!
Cooper arrived at his usual time of 6:45 a.m. this morning. We had our usual walk and our loving up time and then he went home with his Mom a little after 3:30. I got a bunch of stuff done and ignored another bunch of stuff that tried to holler for attention!
It was a gorgeous day here. The high temp was only 82 and most of the day it was in the high 70s. I can take that!
I hope you all have a good night tonight and a good day tomorrow. Let us know how yourre doing. Me miss you when you don't! Nighty night!
Good morning
Another nice day in the making...starting out at 54° and heading to 80.
Not sure how the day will play out but do know pickles are going to be dealt with and only 2 more days till they are done! This is the last year for icicle pickles...I think...maybe.
Better get the day started.
Enjoy your day and stay safe.
Finally, I got a glimpse of momma deer and one youngster this morning. I wonder where the rest of them are.
Good Morning Everyfriend! Cooper arrived about 6:45 and he's been all taken care of and loved up and he's asleep. I've been busy! I tackled the mess in my office and it led me to the mess in my junk room. I found a new crock pot in a box in the junk room and I had already decided that it was time to junk my old one. Now I'm ready to use the new one and the old one will go in the trash!
There is now and empty space in the office and an empty spcae in the junk room and a "kind of" full space on the the back porch waiting for the trash pickup! It's time...no, it's past time to get to work on the clutter!!
And I better get back at it before I lose the urge! Have a good day Everyfriend! Let us know what you're up to!
Good morning, a lot of :cloud: :cloud: :cloud: and :cup: :cup: :cup: going on here.
MG, the only deer we have is in the Southeast, with the Sitka Black tail ones. We do have moose that come into the city limits during the winter, but the caribou and Muskox stay away from people, knowing they might end up in somebody's larder.
Jane, sounds like you've caught the declutter and re-organize bug, at least for today. It's a good feeling isn't it to look around and see all that space. With this continuous rain and damp, I rather wish I had more to do myself. I was going to do laundry, but they've been working on the water intermittently, and it keeps getting shut off for a time or two.
Amy, too bad we've got half a continent between us, or I'd move in with a big plate and bib. My go tos are the big kosher dills and the bread and butter pickles.
Don't throw the old stuff out before you're sure the new stuff works.
Time to think about the haystack! I checked and it's still there waiting for me to jump in!
RICK, I never toss the old before I'm sure the new one works and also fits in the cupboard space where the old one was. In the case of the crock pot, the old one moved here with me 27 years ago and I've forgotten how old it was when I moved so it has served me well!
PATRICIA, I still have the "Clean out and throw away bug". I'm enjoying seeing the empty spaces and the more of them I get to see the happier I'll be! I have a plan for tomorrow. I hope it's still there when I get up!
I still have a couple things to finish up before I can answer the haystack so I'll say "Goodnight Everyfriend, sleep peacefully and wake refreshed!"
Good morning..
Love these cool mornings, 51° but heading to the 80's. Work around home after taking a day off yesterday.
Jane and Patricia, I NEED your ambition to get into the clearing out mode!! Lots to be done here and maybe after all the pickling I will get serious about it.
Patricia, you may have the dills!! I am not a fan of them but Kyle likes them so a couple of batches are done if not more each year.
Better get the day started..
Enjoy your day and stay safe.
Good Morning to Everyfriend who stops by!
AMY, if I were closer, I'd help you out with the dills. That and sweet pickle relish are about the only ones I like. You are still so ambitious...growing all that stuff and preserving it for the winter months! I'm slowing donw on the canning front. I'm thinking if it's sitting there after I go, it'll just get tossed so I'm trying to do only stuff I can use.
Cooper came and we took care of all his morning needs including a very long and very productive walk! Now he's listening for sounds and answering anything he hears! Sometimes I go look ans sometimes I just ignore him!
I'm going to try to clean out some of the papers in my office today. I think I save too much stuff. With it all on the computer, why would I need all this paper work?
I wish you all a good day. Make it your own in every way and don't forget to share it with us. We miss you when we don't "see" you!
Quote from: JaneS on August 14, 2024, 07:56:54 AMWith it all on the computer, why would I need all this paper work?
Be careful --- computers have been known to fail - and lose it all :o Back up the important stuff.
Good morning, no rain today, but it is cloudy and dreary out there. It's fifty-one, heading to a high of only sixty-six for today.
I agree with Rick, when I first got a computer, I lost a lot of information, and now I keep external drives and regularly download information, leaving the drive plugged in only during downloading and uploading.
I still remember a senior netter who was upset because her drive didn't work. It turns out that she left it plugged in and when she clicked on a bad idea, it was infected along with the rest of her computer.
I now have five external drives, 4 terabytes of information stored away from the computer. A couple of years ago, my laptop crashed and when I bought a new one, I simply downloaded needed information, and I was back in business in less than ten minutes.
Amy, it isn't ambition so much as being bitten. When I started out, I meant only to tidy up for the inspection but kept going, thinking just a little bit more and then only a little further even after that inspection.
My worst habit is setting stuff down meaning to get right back to put it away, but that right back rarely happens, and the piles get higher. Now, I'm keeping the momentum going by putting things away and keeping rooms cleaned and vacuumed as I go. Then again, Jane's right, it's just me and it's not a house.
Thanks, I'll take all the dills you've got. I'm not a fan of sweet pickles but do like the bread and butter ones.
I had plans to go out and look around the stores today, but I doubt that's going to happen. Today is, I believe, going to be another lazy one.
Well, It's time to climb into the haystack for the night! I'm ready!
The only paper work I'm going to get rid of is at least 5 years old. Cathy and I talked it over and we decided that saving stuff older than that was too much! But thanks for the warnings.
Today was a good day. I got some more places cleaned out and I'm making some space in the house. It feels good!
And I wish you all a good night. Sleep peacefully and wake to the morning light! Have a good day tomorrow!
Good evening, it's half past eight, which means it's half past midnight for you Easterns. I ended up heading downtown after all and spent time in both Office Max and Michaels, where I left a lot of cash. I haven't been in either store for some years and spent 6.5 hours between the two and Safeway.
Not only that, but I've gotten smarter in my senior years in that I ask the pharmacist because I don't want or need the wrong or extra medication. Noticing that my nose was dribbling and while my ears and throat were fine, but, the right hand back side of my head felt sore and full. The pharmacist, agreed that I didn't need many extras and suggested Tylenol Acetaminophen for sinus, which quickly worked.
The time before, at another store, I asked about blocked ears but no other symptoms. That time, Allegra allergy was recommended, which quickly solved the issue. I'm leery of taking unneeded medicine these days, which often doesn't work or compounds the issue.
Good morning..
Busy day ahead, finally seeing the last of the icicle pickles. That job will be done and overwith. If time and weather permits I wouldn't mind cutting the grass and getting that off the list. Yesterday I managed to get the push lawnmower started, it has been a stinker for me to get started. This time instead of "choking" it 3 times I did 4 , pulled the cord and away we went!! Not a fan of using the riding lawnmower on the banks and this one works perfect for me.
Jane , wouldn't we have a canning spree!! Thank you but to me all this is enjoyable....especially when it all works out. I like playing in the dirt but this year has had it trials in growing vegetables.
Patricia, hope you feel better. Sounds like you did have a great outing!! Micheals is a fun and dangerous store for me......get a bad case of the I wants in it!!
Better get this day on the go.
Enjoy your day and stay safe.
Good Morning AMY and anyone else who shows up! This will be a quickie because I forgot to set the alarm and Cooper will be arriving soon. I have to get ready to meet and greet!
Right now it's 57 degrees here but heading for a high of 84 this afternoon! It sounds like early autumn around here but I really don't think summer is gone. We can get some hit days in August!
I have to get to one of the stores around here and get some birthday cards. Three of my kids have early September birthdays and 2 of my grandkids have late September birthdays! Makes a busy month! And then one of my kids went out and married a guy whose birthday was the same day as hers! Makes a busy month!
I hope you all have a great day...better than yesterday but not as good as tomorrow. Enjoy it!
Good morning! I still keep up with all that you are doing but since I don't do much these days I don't have much to talk about but I still wish you all a good day.
The generic for Allegra (Fexofenadine) is much cheaper, and available at many places.
Good morning all, yesterday began as wet and dreary and the afternoon was full of blue skies, nary a cloud and 66 degrees. Today, it's 44 degrees and sunny, with an expected high of 71. Then it's back to rain, Friday though Monday :cloud:
Rick, thank you, I made a note of that.
I spoke too soon yesterday evening, as I woke this morning to both ears clogged, but my throat and head are fine. My sinuses seem to be playing high and seek.
Amy, I know that's true. I wandered around and spent time looking at the larger rubber stamps, Sweatshirts with numerous available iron-on designs, tiny charms, design prints, and polished agate. I had originally wanted to stop in as I needed a large wide mouth vase for some velvet roses. I found a "Ball" wide mouth nine cup heavy jar that was eighteen dollars cheaper than a heavy, square, glass vase. I also found some feathery pampas grass for filler.
I stopped in Office Max to see if they had the 2025 planners with a two-day monthly spread and labels for less than an arm and a leg for my folder re-organization. I wanted five larger bolded labels and seven labels a half size smaller print. What I found was no complete 2025 planners but some for July 2024 through July 2025, so I'll wait for October.
Upon inquiring re labels, They had an odd system. They want you to email Avery Design and Print, have them do the labels' setup, send it to Office Max for printing and get charged twice. I politely declined. My handwriting is too messy these days for a tailored look, which is why I wanted printed ones at a reasonable price.
Yelp reviews have listed a print shop a block east of Office Max, I'll call there today and scope out their prices. It shouldn't be this involved for a small order.
Good morning, Phyllis, I hope your day is going well.
Jane, enjoy that wonderful weather and spending the day with Cooper. The couple on the other end of the hall from me, (this block long building has each floor separated by two pairs of elevators); have a teeny tiny, black poodle who bounces around seemingly on steroids. Lovey is four years old and could easily pass for a two-month-old puppy.
I would love to have one if it weren't for Farrah and plus Lovey is a purebred, and I'm in the "adopt, don't shop camp."
Back in time, we had three family birthdays in January and three in July. And, one in April and one in September. We're smaller these days.
I just need to put away the canner plus 26 pints of icicle pickles and wash a floor! That will , maybe happen tomorrow. If I pull the beets and do them tomorrow that will be one less chore to do????
Hi Phyllis, good to see you.
Ready to put my feet up and see if I can do nothing..
Hello Everyfriend!
AMY, I'm betting you don't know how to do nothing! Youre always in it up to your ears!
PATRICIA, you sure were all over the place these last couple days!
All I did was a bunch of cooking! I'm ready to sit around and stuff my face for a wekk! Of course, I'll have to share with Cooper. He always knows when I'm stuffing my face and he likes to have his face stuffed, too!
I'm heading for the haystack just as soon as I finish up my eye drops! I have three more to do and then I'm out of here! I wish you all a peaceful night's sleep and a happy tomorrow! Thanks for sharing your days with us. We need the boost.
PHYLLIS, we're always glad to see you even if you don't have much to say! Hello works fine! At least it tells us you're still out there!
Now I'm off to finish up! Good night Everyfriend!
Good morning..
Another cool start to the morning 53° but heading to the 80's.
Labeling and putting away the pickles and I may go pull the beets and get those done. Then maybe I can make the one clean up do????
Jane, I am finding I like to do "nothing" or rather just play (sew) but life does throw some interesting curves to you and that takes time.
Patricia, we get the planners closer to Oct here. For the most part I just use the calendar on the wall.
Enjoy your day and stay safe.
GOOD MORNING 😃
I had a lot of catching up to do since I have not been in to say HELLO for a while.😢. It is always good to read what you all have been up to🥰
We have been keeping our noses to the grind stone as well. We continue to go through photos😩😩We are far from being done and we question IF all this effort is really worth our time🤷🤷
Our cul-de-sac of 11 homes are nearly completed with their new coat of paint. Some of them were a bit of a shock...going from yellow to chocolate brown and what I call cabin green. Many of us stayed the same color.
Our college bound grandson got driven to Utah by his dad and they got him moved into his dorm room. Five hours after his dad headed back home he FaceTimed us to show the room that he shares with a fried was completely set up. They both were quite happy with how it looks, and we agreed. Very nicely done. We had to laugh when he showed us the rather large toilet room....there were 3 American 🇺🇸 hanging on three walls‼️‼️‼️
I must run.....wishing you all a Good Friday.
Good Morning to anyone who shows up today M computer wasn't working and i've been playing around with it all morning . I'll try to get back later i can't use my regular keyboard and i'm frustrated! Have a good day!
Assuming it is wired, turn it over and spank it. If it's wireless, don't forget about batteries
Good morning, 57 here, our low and a cloudy high of 62. Rain will be returning today, and the black and gray clouds are already moving back.
I hope everyone saw the lovely photo of Bubble and ten-month-old granddaughter Lynn in Photos? And so difficult to believe Aviv is beginning high school.
I have been checking in with the Library Bookshelf, although unfamiliar with many of the books read and commented on. I'm more on the marine, animal, psychological and analytical side and my nonfiction is all over the place. I do enjoy reading the comments; however, I'm always learning something new.
I've decided that the glass canister from Ball, will be too small mouthed with the velvet rose and pampas grass, so I may go thrifting next week. I'm thinking about an enamel or wide mouth stone or solid colored glass container that would hide the stems.
The velvet flowers look real and feel nice, fashioned out of velvet, but the stems are too spindly for view and the round mouth container/vase opening too narrow. My apartment is too tailored and contemporary, and the flowers might soften that look in the bedroom, as the large plants do in the living room.
Now to figure out what to use with a nine cup container? It is heavy glass and from Ball, so perhaps a grain.
Farrah is still fussing with her wet food and the ever present dry is a very, very, last resort for her. I'm tempted to leave her only the dry food for a while, I donated the remaining chicken and turkey cat food.
Amy, I like the spiral bound black planners, buy the ones with a two-page monthly spread and only, perhaps, a notes section. Besides listing appointments, I list my bills on the dates due, subtracting debits from credits and attempting to keep ahead.
With phone calls and door knocks, I've spent over an hour trying to complete this post, so I'll end it here and hope everyone, everywhere, is having an excellent day!
I have the computer back in working order! There was one button I was missing and when I hit it, everything took off the way it was supposed to and the one screen that was frozen in place went away. I'm back in business!
Cooper is spending the night and Frankie will be over to give him a bath sometime tomorrow. He has already gone to bed so I'll have to move him when I go. He takes over the middle of the bed and that's not good for me. I don't mind if he snuggles but I don't like him playing "King of the Bed"!
PATRICIA, you make me tired just reading your activities! You sure do get things done!
I got a lot done today and I'm worn out and ready for the haystack! Tomorrow is another day! I wish you all a peaceful night;s sleep and a good day tomorrow! Peek in and let us know what your up to!
Good morning...
Nice soft rain here. I did manage to get the grass cut yesterday all in good time! No hanging laundry out today though.
Should do some baking today...maybe. ;)
Other than the usual just going to coast the day in.
Jenny, good to see you.
Patricia, not easy to get a pet to eat if they have other ideas on it.
Jane, I popped in here in between getting things done and saw you here, I was going to call you if not. Glad you got everything straightened out.
MG there is no sign of the fox kits nor have we seen the doe and her fawn. Hope they are all safe and have moved on.
Phyllis, good morning.
Enjoy your day and stay safe.
Good Morning! Cooper is a "go to bed early" doggie but he's also a "get up early" doggie. He was in my face before the alarm went off and by the time it did, he'd had his breakfast and we were 2/3 of the way finished with our morning walk!
AMY, I think you got more done yesterday than I did but today's another day. The bed gets stripped and the sheets washed because when Frankie is here, I'm going to have her help me turn the mattress! It'll be lots easier with her help!
Now I better get finished with my breakfast and get started! I wish you all a good day! Make it your own in every way...and pop in and let us know what you're doing!
Good late morning, at 9:34, it's 53, hopefully heading to more than the forecasted 59. It's to be cloudy or rain through the 24th, so Fall is upon us in the arctic. Flood, erosion, and avalanche warnings surround us, in the South and in the Northern regions. People are warned to stay away from barren hillsides, and eroded banks. Those of us in the middle may simply be waiting for our turn. What a very odd summer this has been.
Today, is another day on package duty. Since I'm home more often than not, I'm the designated delivery drop for three other busier people. Today is only for one and usually by noon.
Amy, Farrah hasn't made it easy. Her preferred way of eating is two tablespoons two or three times daily. You can't leave it out like the dry, so it's waiting until she goes back and forth between me and the kitchen for her next two tablespoons. The cup of dry takes days for her to finish.
Jane, glad your computer's working for you again, I know how hard that is when it doesn't.
Farrah is active at dawn or dusk and prefers sleeping in different hidden spots, otherwise so rarely disturbs me. In the morning, when I begin to stir, I look over the side of the bed, to see her sitting there watching me. And when I rise, it's time to rush over to her dish in case I've forgotten what's important.
Amy, you're having another busy day, unlike mine. I have only to be here for one delivery and a couple of cleaning jobs and the trash. Other than that, I'll be wandering through my computer.
Hello to Rick and Jenny, and to all else who may venture in, here's to a good day for all.
Hello everyone. Didn't do anything productive today, so nothing to comment on.
Tim to think about the haystack again! This morning, DIL Sarah called me to ask if I needed corn for in the freezer this upcoming winter. It seems they were at the Amish Farmer's stand where I got them started going a couple years ago. I said yes I could use 25 or so ears if they wanted to pick them up for me. They delivered them around 4 this afternoon all shucked and ready to cut off the cobs and freeze. And they said there was "NO CHARGE"! Wasn't that nice! All I have to do is cut it off the cobs and bag it and it's waiting in my fridge for that first thing tomorrow! I'm all set up and ready to go!
Frankie came over to pick up Cooper and she gave him a bath before they left. She didn't come until she had cleaned her apartment so she had the best part of her day off to herself and got a lot done!
I'm going to make a trip to one of the country markets near here one of these days and pick up some veggies for the freezer and get ready to meet the winter!
As soon as I finish my eye drops for today I'll be hitting the haystack. I wish you all a peaceful night's sleep and a happy tomorrow. Don't forget to stop by and share it with us. We miss you when you don't show up!
Good morning...
Rain along with some thunder during the night and it is still raining. Yesterday didn't go as planned as I ended up canning 24 pints of tomatoes. So today IS a day of rest......no maybe about it!
Jane, use your angelfood cake pan to cut the corn off, keeps the corn hopefully in one place to bag up.
Patricia,I am my own worst enemy when it comes to finding jobs to do. I had planned on going to the Mennonite market to check on how long the freestone peaches were available but got side tracked by the plum tomatoes!
Better get the day started..
Enjoy your day and stay safe
Good Sunday morning to ALL.
So proud to share that yesterday we worked as hard as AMY and JANE together‼️ The painters finally finished, so we power washed our deck. There were little dribbles of paint all over, but Bob got them off. He washed all of the window's and the furniture is back in place. Oh and he cleaned the gutters also‼️ it sure does look nice out there this morning.
JANE, the delivery of corn arriving all nice and ready for you was a nice surprise for you. We have had some very good corn on the cob here recently.
PATRICIA, thankfully my Smokey has never had any issues with eating. He gets 30 grams of wet food in the morning and has dry kibble to eat all day long. His size indicates he has no problems eating. As most animals do; he has his routine and he expects it to be the same EVERY morning😘. He is a good boy and does not bug us to get up....but as soon as we stur he is underfoot and lets us know the he is priority‼️
AMY, wow, 24 pints of tomatoes‼️‼️ I do hope you will get to the peaches soon😘
RICK, I did chuckle at you saying you did not do anything to tell about. That is how most of our days go. We are always busy but nothing to tell about😆
We do not have any plans for the day.....hopefully we can recover a bit from yesterdays tasks🥵
Enjoy your day, EVERYFRIEND 🥵 It is going to be a HOT one here again today.
It's still early enough to say Good Morning so....
Good Morning Everyfriend. I was up early and got my breakfast, had my coffee, got dressed and took my walk. When I got back I started cutting the corn off the cobs and I finished that job and got it all bagged before my church service came on line. When that was over, I came in here! So far, that's my day.
When I get off here, I'll be back in the kitchen, putting the little bags of corn into biger bags together and putting them in the freezer. My 20 to 25 ears of corn turned out to be 35 so I have enough for the winter.
JeNNY, you've been busy! I bet it looks great!
AMY, nice tomatoes to eat all winter!
I'm off to bag the corn and then read the paper and relax a bit. Have a great day, Everyfriend! Do whatever suits your fancy!
Good morning, another misty, rainy day here. With nothing on today's agenda other than daily upkeep. I miss having that daily plan of decluttering and re-organizing. My meet and greets, feeding me and Farrah and brewing my first coffee, are finished.
Yesterday, I went to the door because the neighbor's package was late and there it was sitting in front of the door. Even if my building is locked, there are still people inside who take things, so I don't appreciate people just dropping off packages without notifying recipients. I'd hate to have to explain to a friend that her package was never received.
We have a wonderful local farmer's market, out by the fairgrounds, which means it's a good $15.00 trip by taxi. Or you can drive approximately 100 miles south to several roadside stands outside Delta. Unfortunately, none of the group drives anymore, so getting together for trips is no longer an option. I do pay a summer stipend to a local farm for thirty pounds of weekly vegetables, but that program ends next month for the year. I don't can or meal prep anymore like I used to, but I still freeze several extra servings from almost any meal.
Jenny, I had to check Farrah's wet food, which is 37.5 grams. She's not overweight, so perhaps eating it in smaller measures means she burns it off faster? It's formulated for senior cats, so that probably makes a difference. I don't know about bugging, as when I awaken, she's right there at the side of the bed looking up at me to get with it.
You and Bob were busy yesterday. As were Amy, and Jane. I need something to do as the rain and achy joints are making me miserable. Both the south and north of the state are under erosion avalanche and flood warnings, which makes me a bit apprehensive being caught in the middle. We have two rivers running through and three others running around the city as well as a number of sloughs, creeks, and streams in the city, so while they're at bank full, there has been no flooding. We also have mountain ranges separating us from both north and south, so that makes a difference.
Lately, at night, I hear large groups of geese flying overhead. I don't know if they're still gathering, preparatory to that long trip south, or if these are making that trip. The swans and many of the smaller birds have already left, and the cranes are always the last to leave. The smaller birds are said to have already left their single species flocks and joined up into their winter multi species protective flocks. The hawks are out but the ravens are still in the mountains, so, I'm guessing winter might come in mid-October rather than Halloween.
Patricia, I just had a good chuckle. The geese (about 50) were are the neighbours and off he went running at them. They scurried a bit but when he persisted they took flight. We had about 30 blackbirds and 3 on steriods (crows) plus bluejays and on little chipmunk eating at the feed. They all got a long fine.
Too bad those geese weren't at the sanctuary as they lay out grain several times during the summer with a heavier allotment when they're beginning to arrive and when they're preparing to leave.
Here's a list of birds found at the refuge, even an errant hummingbird!
https://www.adfg.alaska.gov/index.cfm?adfg=creamersfield.birds
I'm all finished for the day and I'm really beat! I'm heading for the haystack. My thinker won't think any more and my doer won't do anything! My feet want to rest and my eyes want to close. I think I'll just give up. I'm just plane tired! Good night to all of you! Sleep well and wake refreshed!
Morning is here and we had some really bad storms overnight. My electricity must have been off for a short time because the clock on the microwave and the stove were both blinking this morning.
Frankie will be arriving shortly to drop off Cooper for the day so I have to hurry and finish my coffee and be ready for his arrival. I don't think it's supposed to rain any more today but we shall see. Have a good one! Do whatever suits your fancy! But be sure to drop by here and say hello to us!
Good morning..
We also had heavy rain and thunder yesterday, this morning just a light rain.Work around home today after picking up more canning jars. Still have peaches and pickle beets to do and I am running low on pint jars.
Patricia, that list was interesting. Will go back to see if I missed pileated woodpecker and robins. Looked at the mammal one also.
Jenny, nice to get all that work done then rest.
Better get on with the day.
Enjoy your day and stay safe.
Heavy rain here also, but living at the top of the hill has it's benefits. Nearby parts in Connecticut had 10 - 12 inches. Lots of wash outs and flooding.
Good morning, our rain has been persistent, leaving only two or three cloudy days each week. Here is a view of the University's lower campus, where most of the earth science classes and labs are located, looking toward the Alaska Range and Mount Denali and the ever present clouds. https://akclimate.org/
The main Science section is further up in the hills to the east.
I've nothing planned for today, I'm all caught up and my latest Amazon order isn't due until Tuesday, So I'll have to wander around on my computer as I'm not ready to go out in the promised rain. For me, it's very odd that there's flooding in the north and in the south and here our rivers are actually going down.
Amy, American Robin is listed under Perching birds, but Pileated Woodpecker is not, although it's in the state. This list only includes those listed in bird counts within the sanctuary and not the entire state. Plus, some of those listed only visit the state during migrations.
PATRICIA.... we are going to be heading up your way on a cruise in a couple of weeks, so I have been paying attention to your comments about the weather. We do not plan on doing any excursions, so not really too concerned about staying warm or needing boots. It seems too early for sweaters but maybe not? We will take rain coats and feather jackets. We are not going to Anchorage where we have friends that we would love to see. I think you are located in Anchorage?
No, I'm sorry, Jenny, I am in the Interior, across two mountain ranges and 400 miles to the north.
However, the scenery in the coastal areas is beautiful. Enjoy your trip!
Anchorage is similar to Seattle, and both Vancouvers, in that it rains more often than not. Here is a monthly guide to upcoming Anchorage weather.

It's time to think about the haystack! I had a good visit with the foot dr. this afternoon. I really like him and I think he did a good job on my feet. They feel better already! I really think some of the numbness is already gone! Cathy and I picked up supper at the Chinese restaurant on the way home and we had a good supper together!
I went to sleep during the Perry Mason show and decided that it was time to give up for the day. I wish you all a peaceful night's sleep and a happy day tomorrow. Make it your own in every way.
Good morning..
Off and running to the city, taking back pants that fit too soon for Kyle. Picking up a few things for us,and friends while there.
Enjoy your day and stay safe.
Good Morning Everyfriend! My day is taking off! I wish you all a good one!! Jobs are calling....especially the kitchen floor!
Kitchen floor? --- Don't listen.
Sorry Rick! I couldn't avoid listening and now I have a clean kitchen floor!
I hope you all had a good day! Mine was extremely busy! I got a lot done and tomorrow I'm heading for the Farmers Market and hopefully coming home with a basket of potatoes to can so I have them handy for meals this winter. I'm also going to pick up a head of cauliflower and some other veggies! That's the best place to get them this time of year. There are lots of local farmers who sell their products there!
Also, today I ordered a new pressure canner. The one I've been using was my mother's old one and who knows how old that one was. It finally said, "I'm finished" and it just quit!
I guess I better close my eyes before they just decide to clunk shut. No Cooper tomorrow but Cathy will be here around 9:30 to take me to the Farmer's Market! Have a good night, sleep peacefully and wake to a new day!
Well, I'm here but the only one I see is ME! So I'll try to get back later when more people show up! Wonder what everyone is up to?
Good morning..
Love this cooler weather , starting off at 52° and just heading to the mid 60's!! Should have a batch of chili sauce to cook on a day like this but I don't. Yesterday went well, long tiring day but Kyle did manage to get some pants.
Today is tidy up day plus take the meat off of 3 bbq'd chickens and vacuum seal them . The bone will go into a soup pot.
Jane, enjoy your time at the market, that is my next stop after I get caught up on work/cleaning here. Need to get 1/2 bushel of peaches to can.
Rick....good advice!! :2funny:
Patricia, would Jenny's ship go into Skagway?
Better get going ..
Enjoy your day and stay safe.
Quote from: JaneS on August 21, 2024, 07:00:08 AMWell, I'm here but the only one I see is ME! So I'll try to get back later when more people show up! Wonder what everyone is up to?
Jane, I tip toed in on you :)
Not much, Jane. I am waiting on my grocery order to be delivered, and I plan on working some more on my sofa table. Just the sides, the top and the floor saver do-dads to attach yet. Oh, and finding someone to help me set the thing upright. It is far heavier but less tall and long then my other put-together shelving. Nothing else on my agenda for today.
Well, Good Morning AMY and MG! I've taken my walk and rested up from it and now I'm ready for the Farmers Market. Cathy will be along in about a half hour and we'll be off.
MG, I hope you get your table together! And I hope you get it right side up so you can start usine it!
AMY, quit sneaking around! People will be looking for sneakers!
I'm off to see what needs doing before Cathy comes. I could start reading the paper! Have a good rest of the day!
I'm here, but have nothing to say. So I'll say it and move on --- I think to a nice cup of coffee.
Jane, have my new sneakers on and they are quiet!
Rick, enjoy your coffee.
I'm here, too, but don't have much to talk about.
I just finished my walk, also. I try to walk 20 minutes every day but wasn't up to it the last couple of days. I use an elliptical machine that I can sit in front of in my wheelchair and exercise my legs. It's not as good as actually walking outside but it helps keep my legs strong enough so I can stand up for a short time. And it gives me a break from sitting all the time. The doctor said I should move as much as possible.
I'm going to try to make some Tuscan Bean Soup this afternoon.
Take care, All.
Good late morning, I'm here as well. I spent some time after my basic morning routines and chores, with my meet and greets. Our lows have dropped into the lower forties, 46 presently, with a promised high of 54. We will have steady rain from yesterday until the 28th, and everyone is suffering from depression and cases of the coming winter's very dry skin and results of scratching that very dry skin.
Amy, multiple ships dock at downtown Skagway. Here is their August schedule. https://www.cruisemapper.com/ports/skagway-port-408
Today is another for playing on the computer. Friday will be a quick market trip to return one item and to get more coffee and more dry cat food. I also want a large plastic tub for my off season coats and jackets. It'll be more practical than purchasing one of those vacuum sealers. Other than that, I'm good to go until September and probably the middle of that month. I still need a squat, wide mouth stone or ceramic jar for my flower arrangement.
I need, in October, another planner for 2025, and I'm waiting on a local printer's sheet of file names and folder separators, bolded labeled sheets. Their cost is less than a third of Office Max's and much less hassle. I have the Command strip hooks for the hallway walk-in closet, to hang my grocery cloth bags, just need to go finish putting them up to hang the bags.
Phyllis, you put me to shame. I have had plans since last spring to set up an exercise routine and have never followed through. My legs and back are both weak and my doctor says it will help with my falls. He recommended walking the hallways as the building is one block.
A few hours ago the weather forecaster said that we are to get "near record lows" here tonight. I remember the year Shan's mom neglected to take him with the rest when she moved. It was about the coldest August I could remember. I was so anxious for him because I had to leave him out in the unheated enclosed porch for a few weeks until he was old enough to get his shots and flea treatment. Vet thought he was only about five weeks old at the time. What a scared and hungry little Kittie he was before I got him to go in the cat carrier.
Someone posted, on the big trash bin nearby, a note saying they found a Mom cat and six kittens. She was hoping Mom cat and kittens belonged to someone. Mom cat was a calico as were several of her youngsters. She was planning to take them to the humane society if no one claims them. Mom cat may just alleviate her of that problem since feral (assuming she is) cats tend to move their kittens around a bit. Shan's mom and kitties were between the two garages for maybe two, two and a half weeks before she moved all but him. In her case, she was a striped ginger and every single one of Shan's siblings were a copy of him, blonde and fluffy.
I've marked a couple of movies I might like to watch, including three of the Men in Black series. Was there a fourth one?
FWIW - Amazon has 2025 planners. I usually get enough unsolicited calendars and planners. But none so far this year.
Didn't get above 70 here today. Good weather for those still cleaning up from the recent flooding and rain.
MG, I hope someone claims the momma and her kittens, but I doubt it. I hope they all find good homes before winter sets in.
Patricia, thank you, we stopped in Skagway and enjoyed our look around.
Well ,I learned that to call the dog I had better use his name and not whisle for him to come in. I whistled and 9 crows came! So now Jesse will be used.
Thank you, Rick, they did have multiple types, styles and sizes but not what I'm looking for.
What I'm looking for is an 8.5X11, book bound black leather cover, with good quality pages. The inside should have a two-page spread for each month, and only a holiday and notes section, otherwise. My last two were that style, and I've found it suits me.
Good morning..
Starting off at 45° and just tickling the low 70's today.
Finishing up what didn't get done yesterday ,canning the broth and chicken from the 3 bbq'd chickens and chasing dust kangaroos . you know all the good things that need done. Did pull all the yellow bean plants yesterday ,they were slowing down but the green and purple beans are in flower so they are next.
Better get the day started....
Enjoy your day and stay safe.
Starting at around 58 here. Don't know where it's going
Food wise --- Today I'll be opening up a new jar of peanut butter. No directions required.
Feels like the pollen season has already started.
Good Morning Everyfriend! I'm up to my eyeballs in shredded cabbage and just about to fill the first 8 jars for the canner. Cooper arrived a little before 6 a.m. today because his Mommy had to be to work early! We've had our walk and I think he's ready to hit the yard for a bit. As soon as I get the first load of cole slaw in the canner, I'll take hime out.
I don't know when I'll be back in here. There dishes and more dishes to do when one cans and that's not the fun part. The fun part is taking the finished jars out of the canner and gloating. (Isn't that right, AMY?) Looking at the finished jars makes my day!!!! And eating it is even better! I also love sharing it with family and friends!
Back to work! No more shirking! The shirking happens while the jars are still in the canner and the dishes are all cleaned up! Right AMY?
I wish you all a good day. Wish me a lucky one!!
Jane , yes nice to finally sit and listen to the canner work. The chicken and broth put away plus froze yellow beans and a few beets. That is it for today....I hope!
Rick, crunchy or smooth?
Rick, crunchy or smooth? But either would do.
Good afternoon. I can actually talk about kitchen things today...sort of! ;)
I have put 3 chicken breast halves in the slow cooker with chicken broth, made Jello and instant Vanilla pudding. That's more than I usually do ahead of time. ;D
I saw two robins at the birdbath this morning - along with the usual sparrows, titmice, chickadees and wrens. The colorful birds (finches, blue jays, etc.) are missing this year. Two hummingbirds are squabbling over the feeder; there are four openings, but they won't share. Saw the first bunny rabbit of the summer a few evenings ago; I suspect the hawk that hangs around may have caused the delay.
And that's what's going on in my world. Off to the recliner to read until evening news and Wheel of Fortune comes on tv.
Hope Everyfriend is having an Enjoyable Day. :hugs:
I've been up to my ears busy today and now I'm tired right down to my toenails! Also can't seem to keep my eyes open. I think it will be an early bedtime tonight to make up for the early "get-up" time this morning! Tomorrow is back to normal with Cooper. He'll be here a bit before 7.
CALLIE, so nice to see you stop by for a visit. You must be one busy lady! And boy, do you ever have the birdies in your yard!
I'm still working on the Cole Slaw. More to can tomorrow. I'm about half done! I'm sorry, the eyes are in clunk-shut mode. I'm really sleepy! I think I better get off this thing and get stuff done so I can hit the haystack. If I make it to the haystack, my eyes can't clunk shut and stay that way! Good night Everyfriend! I wish you all a peaceful night's sleep and a happy tomorrow. Hopefully, I'll "see" you tomorrow!
Good afternoon, I spent the morning on the computer and the afternoon in the city. I returned a couple of items and then spent time in Safeway, spending that new-found cash.
I did find out that the planner I'm looking for should be out in October.
They did the fire extinguishers for the year this morning, and the water will be turned off again tomorrow for an indeterminate time. This is their second attempt at trying to make hot water. So far, they've gotten to only twenty minutes to bring up the temperature...
Good morning..
We are starting to climb back up to the uncomfortable weather. Cooler temps were a nice break though.
Getting my haircut this morning then home to (maybe) take the garbage away.
Phyllis, how was the Tuscan Bean soup?
Callie.I think your Blue Jays are here. They show up at feeding time for the crows.
Jane, you will be glad when the canning in over and done with.
Enjoy your day and stay safe.
Good Morning Everyfriend! I'm up and dressed and had my breakfast. Cooper has arrived and had his breakfast. He's ready for his morning walk and I'm ready to start the last of the canning. I'm thinking I might finish the cole slaw today. If I don't, I'm in trouble! Wish me luch!
I'm Off for a walk with Cooper. He's telling me it's time! Hopefully, I'll be bacvk later to brag!
Have a great day! Make it your own in every way! And don't forget to let us know how you spent it!
Good morning, The only agenda item for today is to computer locate an elusive tailor to put new zippers in a vest and jacket. It's elusive because everyone says he's close, but I can never recall the directions when actually needed or remember, at the time, to write them down.
Other than that, I finished all the other outdoor errands yesterday. This near constant drizzle doesn't make going anywhere fun, and things get put off.
Other than that, I have nothing of more importance to relate.
Oh super great! Now I can't access my Xfinity account, including my email. It gives me an "access denied. you don't have permission to use this server" message. WHAT?
Not only that has anyone been getting the Windows sign-in box when you try to log into any of your accounts? I am getting it with Amazon, and a few other other including the Xfinity site. What I do for the Amazon site is just click off the box, but with Xfinity I that doesn't work. Well, let me slightly amend that. Just now on Amazon, the thing keeps popping up but I can still get into the site. I am about to blow a gasket with Microsoft, where I am mostly placing the blame. There must be a setting I can turn that off, but I can't find it. I am not even using their browser. While I am at it, I refuse to download that Pilot thingy.
Okay rant over - for now!
Hope everyone had/had a nice day. Things are warming up again for a few days. I concentrated on doing housework today.
The bean soup was not good, Amy. I used some Bob's Old Mill mix and it was not good so back to Amy's canned. Easier to open a can and tastes better, too.
Take care, All.
I love the Amy's Lentil Soup, or Lentil/vegetable.
MG, have you tried reaching Xfinity direct and not through their site? They might be able to assist you. I use nothing with Microsoft, but since they're in the midst of changing things, that could be it.
I love the Amy brand of soups, seriously good and organic without numerous unneeded chemicals. It's the only canned soup I can eat without a reaction.
Hello Everyfriend! I finished the Canned Cole Slaw today! I have 15 jars that will be ready to use in 12 days. It says not to open any to use for 12 days because it takes that lone to set. There's one in the fridge that didn't seal so I'll have atester in about 10 days. It was in the first batch!
Now, I have to figure out what to do with the other head of cabbage. Any ideas??
The next thing on the agenda is potatoes.
I think I'm going to have Cooper for some longer hours. Frankie has volunteered to work extra hours at the hospital so she can earn some extra money. She's looking to move to a new apartment and needs some extra money!
I'm tired tonight but not as bad as last night. I slept well last night and that's unusual for me. I hope tonight is the same. I better finish up and get myself ready for the haystack. Sleep well Everyfriend!
Patricia, Xfinity's customer support with a live body answering has gone the way of others and made it next to impossible to talk to a real human. Those d... AI assistants are less than useful. They almost always point me to something that does not apply at all. Anyway, I am going to try again this morning if it hasn't cleared up overnight. I already checked my settings and I do have the requirement for signing in with Microsoft's hello box (or whatever you call it) for Microsoft apps turned off. So what gives with these sites that are not part of Microsoft? Maybe they are using Microsoft server programing??? Anyway, those are the only two sites, so far, I am having problems with, and, I might add, probably the two I use the most. Of course!
Ah, hah! Partial success. I am able to get into my email from Bing now. However, it still can't get into it from the Brave browser. Since I am not completely satisfied with it, I have gone back to Firefox. Brave is supposed to be a more secure browser. That may be so, but I have had some minor problems with it. I originally had no problems getting into Google with it at first, but the last few months it doesn't let me sign in there either. I just hadn't bothered trying to fix that one. So, Brave is history and Firefox is back. I hope! Right now I am busy updating my passwords which are outdated on Firefox. Funny how that is still all archived on my computer somewhere. I thought I had removed it all. Huh!
Good morning..
Starting off a sunny 47° day here. We are now heaing back into fry weather < sure didn't mind the cooler temps but we will get the colder temps soon enough.
Yesterday didn't go as planned but I did get some work done.Today will be catch up on what didn't get done.
Phyllis what about the 15 bean soup? That one is always tasty. We can't get the bean mix here so I just throw in a handful of all the dried beans on have on
hand.
Jane, what about cassarole cabbage rolls? Or even cabbage rolls? You will enjoy your cole slaw all winther long!
MG, no help from here...Patricia and Rick are the ones that know their way around these wonderful yet frustrating at times equipment.
Better get a move on..
Enjoy your day and stay safe.
Good Morning Everyfriend! My morning has taken off! I've stored the jars of cole slaw, had my breakfast, fed Cooper and took him for a walk (he's out in the yard now) and now I'm having my second cup of coffee and visiting with my friends.
I'm thinking I might take today off and that means tomorrow will probably go down the tubs too. Our new priest will be doing the church service for the first time and there will be a special Coffee Hour to welcome him and his family after the service.
So Monday looks like a good day to do the potatoes. I might get the second head of Cabbage cleaned and AMY, I'm going to look up your two ideas on line. The rolls actually sound tempting!
Maybe I'll clean up some of the papers in my office and see if my desk is hiding somewhere under them! I have to make a trip to the store sometime this week. I have 6 family birthdays coming up in September and I need to accumulate some cards and start getting them ready to mail!
MG I sure hope you find your way around the computer. They can be so trying at times and I'm not the one to help you. I wish I could! But that stuff you're talking about sounds like a foreign language to me!
I'm off now to see what's up around here. Do I work on the taters or do I work on the office papers? Or do I just do whatever? I hope you all have a great day! Make it your own in every way!
Jane, when working on the taters use your apple peeler to do the skins then all you have left to do is a little hand work on the eyes.Makes the job a little easier..
Getting Firefox all ship-shape. I am as happy as a pig in a mud hole.
A little while ago I checked on the CG Sequoia's status as I do on occasion. Haven't heard any word about her or CG Hollyhock since they were both at the Baltimore yards getting refits and inspections. This morning she finally showed up on the Marine Traffic tracking site. She is now in Boston as of this morning. So, heading to Port Huron soon, I hope. I am not sure what the do at the Boston yard, but it is probably some more minor refits, provisioning, and crew training on the ice cutting equipment. Looking forward to seeing her on the St.Clair River soon, although I do miss CG Hollyhock. Too bad I missed Sequoia leaving Baltimore. Which reminds me, StreamTime Live https://www.youtube.com/@StreamTimeLive/streams now has 11 live streams going. Thanks to the Baltimore bridge disaster, they now have a second live cam posted in the shipping channel, and it is 4K to boot.
MG, thank you!! So many to chose from..one could spend all day just watching the videos!!
You are welcome, Amy. The other live ship cams I watch are the ones at San Diego Bay. Great for watching the Warships coming in and out. You get to see all sizes of boats, jetski's, sailing vessels, etc. I even saw, day before yesterday, someone out water-skiing early in the morning just about the time the fishing boats were waking up and heading out. The main feed is the Rotating/Switch feed cam, but if you like just a single feed on a favorite cam, you can do that too.

Good morning, today, the rain is supposed to go away for an entire week. It'll still be chill and cloudy, but hopefully no rain.
MG, there is always, always, a record somewhere of your computer history. I was surprised, astonished even, when a notice from Microsoft's One Drive, which I had never installed or used; popped up saying my storage was full, and I would need to pay for more.
I immediately looked and found images dating back from 2023 to 1998. When I tried to delete, I discovered the only way was a line by line delete. Who has time or energy or sanity to delete thousands of items one by one? Or check back to see if they re-appeared?
I had to go back to W10, to delete One Drive, from my system, but it is still out there, collecting. I keep as little on my laptop as possible, everything goes to externals. And I try to avoid Microsoft and Google systems as much as I can, where I can.
Jane, here are a few cabbage ideas, https://duckduckgo.com/?q=cabbage+recipes&t=newext&atb=v424-1&ia=web
Amy, 45 here at 9:02 and our high will be only 57. In the North, August is the precursor to Fall, with rain and dropping temperatures. This year has been an emphasis on rain.
Phyllis, I never follow a recipe exactly. I'm always wondering what if. Sometimes it works, and sometimes there have been spectacular failures. I always have several types of dried beans on hand and mix those I've enjoyed in the past. Here is one recipe I've semi followed in the past, https://www.wellplated.com/15-bean-soup/
MG, I sent you a PM.
I simply love Bob's Old Mill Bean Mix, of course the original one, "Ham Beens" was excellent (I think it underwent another name change since then too). Never had a problem with either if I followed the instructions, LOL.
Relating to computer problems, my daughter had a HP InkJet Printer (which I gave to her, new and in-box) She used it quite awhile, but signed up for the "instant Ink program" they offer. She just found out, that if she wanted to discontinue the instant ink program, she couldn't. Spent hours o the phone with the HP service guys, and he went thru a bunch of permutations and determined that she was out of luck, discontinueation was not available. So I did some quick research on my Office Depot site, and found a reasonably priced printer for her, and recommended that she also look on Staples website, she has one of their stores close to her. They had the same printer with some bonus reductions (they have a point system which give you $$$ per point off your purchase, and with that and the lower price actual ink cartridges, came out pretty great. It arrived at her house yesterday, and she set it all up, and was not "obligated" to take the instant ink program this time. The consensus, with the HP guy and the Staples guy, the existing printer was NOT upgradeable, and to "trash" it. I hate to think what I will have to go thru when I get a new computer with Win 11, etc. But first I have to recover some money I spent this month (new eyeglasses to the tune of $500 not including the Opthamologist's fee - my insurance does not pay for that either). Oh, well, I'll just plug along and see what happens. I want to private message Patricia with some questions, and will do that later when my mind clears from above problems. I need a nap!
Will she continue to get ink from HP for years to come? Somehow that doesn't sound legal.
Thanks Pat. Got it. I had been using Firefox for years and years. For some reason, which escapes me at the moment, I switched to Brave maybe a year, year and a half ago. It is supposed to be better than most, including Firefox, for security, but because of it it has been a bit cantankerous about wanting me to "not of there" with some sites. And weirdly enough, when I try to access my Google account from Brave, Google has fits. It didn't used to, so I don't know what that was all about. I barely use the Google account, but it appears to be necessary for my cell phone which uses Google and for watching YouTube. So, like I said, I am happy as a hog in a wallow (or whatever they call those mud baths they like to take.
New player on the field. Just got my binoculars out to see what was down by the tree line. It is a groundhog, busily munching away as fast as it can and raising its head up every second or so. I thought that might be what I was seeing a few days back.
Amy, I have a bag of Bob's Red Mill Stone Ground Whole Grain Flour, 10 Grain Pancake & Waffle Mix that I purchased just recently to use with my new griddle. Haven't made any pancakes yet though. Soon, Soon. I assume they are the same company?
She will purchase ink from HP, or where ever it is available; however, with their new technology, the printer reads the cartridges, and I think they "have to" be HP cartridges. Her old Instant Ink plan was $2.99 a month; I think they went up on that price, but it just goes on forever, until your printer drivers won't upgrade, then you're out of luck and have to buy a new printer.
Good morning..
One rooster is really trying his lungs this morning..
Starting off at 55° and the humidity is back :(. A day of rest here ,just need to do a few minor things and then coast.
MG, I think I have seen Bob's Mills here at one store, I will check them out.
Patricia, we have also had a lot of rain, usually by this time the lawn is burnt = no mowing. Our grass will get cut again this coming week, will work in in between pickled beets and canning peaches.
Enjoy your day and stay safe.
Today is going to be a busier day than I thought. I got an email from a friend with with a link to one of those PunchCard things. I tried to open it but couldn't. Emailed her. This morning she replied that it is a scam. She did not send it, but apparently when she got one, she opened it and it grabbed (at the least) her email contacts and sent them out too. Oh great, now I have to spend a few days changing my email address, which I have been thinking about doing anyway, and passwords, etc. Oh joy, oh joy!
Weather sunny, will be warmer and more humid this week, one day even getting back up to over 90o
Good Morning Everyfriend! Cooper spent the night with me. He's had his breakfast, took his walk, went out in the yard for a bit and now he's resting on the sofa. I've done all my morning stuff, including getting a shower and dressing for church. Cathy will pick me up about 9:45. So I'm taking a fedw minuts to greet my friends! HELLO, FRIENDS!!!
The dishwasher is running and I hope it's finished before I have to leave. I always hate to leave anything running that uses water.
AMY, I found a cabbage recipe yesterday and I cut it in half and made it up. It used half of the head of cabbage I had left and it's absolutely delicious. It has carrots, onions, peppers, hamburger, spices and other stuff in it. It came from looking up your suggestions! I'm definitely saving this recipe!
MG, you sure are seeing lots of animals. I thought you moved to the Harrisburg area. I must be wrong about that. My sister lives near Harrisburg and the only animals she ever sees loose are stray dogs!
Guess I better get my stuff together so I'm ready when Cathy gets here. I thing the DW just went into the drying move. That's good!
I wish you all a good day...better than yesterday but not as good as tomorrow! Make it your own in every way. And don't forget to pop in and let us know what your up to!
Jane, I actually moved farther away from Harrisburg. I am still on the West Shore but now I am in Mechanicsburg. My family lived here, but on the other side from where I am now, for years. It is nice to be back. The downside is that Sue is now twice as far away. I don't even have to change my veterinarian because he still practices near here part of the week. The rest of the week, he is in Harrisburg. When Oscar goes for his annual he may remember it. No more dealing with the traffic on I81, and I am closer here to his office in Camp Hill than I was when I was living in Enola.
Someone set one of our dumpsters on fire, one of a pair outside my window, which set off the building alarm. The firemen are out there with long hooked poles sorting through the trash and cardboard. What some people do for fun...
Hello again and good night, too.
MG, my sister's address is Mechanicsburg, too. She lives between the post office and an large elementary school. Her street is Marble. Maybe the next time I go down to visit her, we can meet face-to-face. I'd like that!
PATRICIA, stupid person to start a fire! That can get a bit scary. I hope it's all OK now!
Today was a busy day! I wasn't home from church until about noon and then took Cooper for a walk, had my lunch and read the Sunday paper. Then "stuff" started calling for attention and before I knew it, it was time for Frankie to come by and pick up Cooper. Then the rest of the day started hollering for attention. Where does all that stuff come from? Surely there must be some loafing time!
Well, I better finish up around here and get ready to conk out! Tomorrow is another day! And Cooper will be here around 7 or did she say 6. I guess I'll be ready early! I just texted her and asked her what time and it is 6. I wonder if my eyes will be open!
I wish you all a peaceful night's sleep and a happy day tomorrow. Make it your own in every way.
Good Morning, Everyfriend! Cooper and I are off for a walk. It's 60 degrees and just barely light out there. See you all later!
Good morning..
Starting off at 55° but heading to the low 80's here. Taking the vehicle in to see what may be caussing the hum/growl. I am thinking wheel bearing but I am not the mechanic .
Yesterday I did get some sewing done...3 pairs of Kyle's jogging pants hemmed and side borders on a quilt ,just have the top and bottom and that one is done.
Patricia, I hope they caught the culprit that set the fire.
Jane, enjoy your walk! Talked with David last night and he is off to San Antonio then onto Larado TX. Hope he sends photos of the areas!
Better get the day started..
Enjoy your day and stay safe.
Quote from: Amy on August 26, 2024, 06:48:42 AMI hope they caught the culprit that set the fire.
Could be a cigarette butt someone failed to put out all the way. Just threw it in the trash bin
Good morning, 45 and partly cloudy, but it's breaking up.
No one has said anything officially about the dumpster fire, Rick, other than it was both dumpsters. Those serve the entire building, several apartments and offices, but hopefully, they'll know more by looking at the camera feed. It's in all public areas, inside and out and those with TVs, can subscribe to the camera feed. There's always broken up cardboard in there for various reasons and I assume papers, who knows.
We received notices about a week ago, not to leave any personal information on what we throw out, as they've rousted one or two inebriates recently.
Meet and greets and daily routines finished, Farrah's fed and the first cup of coffee's poured, so some time spent on the computer and a couple of rooms need freshening and that's my exciting day planned.
Amy, my mom, sewed and made several quilts on her loom. She used batten I believe as a filler and sewed my first wedding dress, in an empire style with a keyhole neckline.
San Antonio was where I spent five years, and my daughter was born in the early seventies at Fort Sam.
Jane have fun with Cooper, today. Besides, Lovey, a black, mini poodle, there are a couple of doxies, and a miniature collie; numerous cats and countless birds and one miniature bearded dragon in our building. I can look down, directly to the dog park, or see Lovey in the halls as she breakdances out and about, excited enough that she seems to often float feet off the ground.
WOW! I'm so excited, I just received an email, don't know why they spammed it. That I've won $13,898.55 in a casino game I hadn't realized I was playing. Finally, I can pay off those multiple Netflix accounts I don't remember having before they're closed and even take that world cruise I won the other day... I'm so blessed. :smiley6600:
Jane, I am tucked in behind Bethany Village and the rehab hospital, not very far at all.
Patricia, if we had a dime for every one of those spam mails, we would be millionaires within weeks. Over the weekend, I got an e-mail that came from a friend of mine. Well, at least it was her email. It wouldn't open so I sent her an email back. Turns out it was a spam thing. Now I am busy changing passwords, etc. Apparently it is one of those things that hijacks your address books and sends itself along. Not sure what else it was up to, if anything, since it didn't open. I forwarded it to a barely used email address I have. What popped up there was marked Ad and looked like one one of those spam email headers purporting to sell you something. I didn't even open that one. It went directly to trash. Looks like you can't even trust email addressed from your friends anymore.
I've just finished lunch and am about to embark on my mission to fill the new bookshelf. I am in the middle of rearranging some of my books so that I use several of the shelves on my taller bookcases items the cats can't reach. Oscar recently discovered he can reach the upper shelves on my stepped shelf via the new TV console table. Stuff I have there is breakable, and he does like knocking thinks off the shelves and table tops. He seems to be reverting to kitty-hood. Sigh!
Hope everyone is doing well.
Patricia, you receiveth while I giveth..
It was the hub bearing in the front end, I went to get conformation and make an appointment but the owner said he would do it right then!! Nice to have service like that!!
Sure didn't get much done but tis ok....another day perhaps.
Well, I got some stuff done today and some of it is still waiting. The cabbage is all taken care of at least it will be when I finish eating the casserole I made. I'm sure glad I cut that one in half or i'd end up eating it until Kingdom Come!
Cathy picked me up and we went to The Dollar Tree first and I got the 7 birthday cards that I need in September! Now I have to get them ready to send. I don't know how we got so many birthdays in one month!
It sounds like you've all been busy and also getting a lot of SPAM. I've been getting it on the computer and the telephone! We have to be smart to get ahead of them!
Now I'm ready for the haystack! My eyes don't want to stay open so I'm going to let them have their way. I don't have to be up early to meet Cooper. My grandaughter has the day off and he's going to be getting a haircut! I might see him for a few minutes but I won't have him for the day. I'll miss him!
Good Night Everyfriend! Sleep well and wake refreshed! Make tomorrow your own in every way and be sure to let us know how you did that. We're always curious!
Good Morning Everyfriend!I'm up and had my breakfast...just finishing my coffee. And I see the daylight is upon us. I'll be out for my first walk of the day (without Cooper) in a few minutes. His Mommy is off today and he's home with her.
I wish you all a great day. Don't forget to stop by and say "HI" to all of us!
Good morning..
Back into fry weather this week..
Some of the leaves are already turing colour, heard that geese were also flying south, I think fall is soon here.
If the peaches are ready that will be my job for the day.
If that rooster keeps up his crowing,he will become a little horse (hoarse). :2funny:
Enjoy your day and stay safe.
Hi. --- everyone
God morning all, Morning routine finished, and I've time to see how all of you and the rest of the Internet are up to.
Hi Rick, and everyone!
MG, I remember years ago when I received one of those from Norm. Typical guy, he blamed it on his granddaughter using his computer. I've since implemented a number of features, chief among them is Ublock which stops all suspicious pages from opening until I've given the okay and even then, a couple of times it's insisted I think again.
I have two six - shelf wooden units, one is half filled with cookbooks and then older Martha Stewart and similar nonfiction titles. The other holds my fiction collection. Every time I've gotten rid of one, I've been upset later, so there they sit until I look through them again. While my Kindle holds enough books that Amazon sends me yearly Christmas cards...
Amy, you have more trouble with those vehicles that I'm glad I don't have that expense, although I spend enough, sometimes too much, supporting public transportation.
Jane, I wish I had your energy. I'm taking today and the next two off because today or one of the other two, maintenance and a fireman will be in checking all alarm, sprinkler and fire systems. At least I'll hear them coming as they go floor to floor. It just depends on whether they start at the top and work their way down, or at the bottom and work their way up. Sometimes I wish we had fewer inspections.
I hear the geese every night, Amy, and the ravens are letting everyone know they've returned from the mountains. One of our Athabaskan residents said he'd heard that the animals have already set up their dens.
It was an altogether too short summer.
From the Palmer, Alaska state fair;
"PALMER, Alaska (KTUU) - The 18th annual weighing of the state's largest pumpkin at the Alaska State Fair kicked off Monday with another winner from Anchorage grower Dale Marshall.
Marshall claimed the Giant Pumpkin crown for a record-extending seventh straight year with a gourd that weighed in at 2,035 pounds — not as heavy as his state record 2,147-pound pumpkin from 2022, but a hefty one nonetheless. Marshall said he never expected this year's pumpkin to be so big.
"I was kind of shocked. Actually, I had in my mind it was going to be 19 ( hundred pounds)," Marshall said. "So we probably went 225 pounds more than we thought we were going to, which is always exciting."'
Thanks, Patricia. I must look into UBlock. For whatever reason, the email I got would not open anything. My sister hasn't reported anything like it from me, and my other email address, when I forwarded it came up with an ad name which promptly got trashed without opening. The difference between the two browsers/email clients is what apparently made a difference. I know the spam ads were from what I forwarded, because I rarely get any mail one that one and the spam popped over there almost instantaneously.
I've been busy this afternoon, after a bit of reading and a nap, populating my new bookshelf with books from taller shelves. The tall shelves have cubbies that are higher than what the cats can get to, so the ones I have moved the books from will soon have some of the stuff I had boxed away because I didn't have a place for them before.
Oscar is pesting. How much you want to bet he wants something to eat. I put stuff out for the pair a half hour ago and he wouldn't eat it then.
Farrah's preferred meal plan is to save the daily cup of dry for overnight while dining on two tablespoons of wet food, preferably fish, four or five times daily.
Since she won't touch the leftover wet food after she's eaten, I put it back in the can so it doesn't go to waste, and it's there again for her highness's next meal.
I just slept throuth about half of a Perry Mason show and decided it was time to hit the sack. I got a lot of stuff done today and tomorrow Cooper will be here at 5:45 a.m. Frankie has an early day tomorrow so Cooper gets an early day and I do too.
And I will be going out to lunch with my former working associates from the office of Pennsylvania House Furniture! We do it once a month and I missed the last two so I'm looking forward to tomorrow. Frankie only works until 2:30 so I might not get to say goodbye to Cooper for the day!
Don't know what I'll get into when I get home but I think Cathy will be over to help me make a change in my trash pickup program. The one I've been using has changed their policy and it's costing a lot more so we're looking at another one that has been around for a long time.
I guess I better finish off my day and hit the hay! I wish you all a peaceful night's sleep and a happy tomorrow. I'll see you later. You take care of YOU!
I'm up and attem! Cooper has arrived and had his breakfast and we're waiting for some morning light out there so we can take our walk! I do not go out there in the dark any more!
I see there's been no one here since I checked out last night so I'll just say Good Morning and be on my way.
GOOD MORNING, EVERYFRIEND!
Good morning...
May get more rain this morning, had a dandy storm last evening. Didn't last very long but let us know it was there. Don't have to water the garden for a few days now.
Need to lable 21 jars of pickled beets that were done yesterday and can peaches today...that is it!!
Jane, hope you had a good time out with your friends. I heard from David ,he was just heading out of Arkansas, said the temp was 100°. Told him noo to bring it back with him!
Patricia, I meant to comment on your Mom making your wedding dress......she must have been fantastic with the needle!! That is such an undertaking to do..labour of love for sure.
Rick, did you get any rain last night?
Better get the day started.
Enjoy your day and stay safe.
Sun just starting to peek out. Supposed to be a hot one today, with "feels like" over 100.
Computer acting up. All my Desktop icons are there, but blank. Will have to play with that.
Good luck, Rammel!
No progress. Email also messed up, and some programs. But S&F obviously still works.
Is your S&F opening very slowly? Mine has been doing that for about the last 10 days. Sluggish to open but post OK.
Good morning, we're firmly in the camp of low forties to mid-sixties these days with no rain now but persistent cloudy skies.
My meet and greets, morning routine and feeding Farrah is done, And perhaps, in between random water shutoffs and sprinkler inspections, hope to get a few items done today. Tomorrow, I'm having lunch with some friends and that'll be nice.
Jane, perhaps you've trained your brain to use Perry Mason as a lullaby? Or simply, it's time to sleep when the TV is on? In any case, enjoy your day with Cooper and your lunch with old friends.
Rick, Bubble, I haven't had an issue, so far, with S&F but know my computer is sluggish when first turned on. I wouldn't want that excessive heat these days, I remember temps of 104 in the fifties, but wouldn't mind after all that rain, a few in the seventies.
Thanks, Amy, she sewed a lot as well as quilted, knitted, crocheted and embroidered. She sewed all of our clothes until we began to rebel as teens. She grew up in a farming family and always said it was expected. Even my uncle could sew and knit. And they all fixed fences and drove the tractor, and otherwise worked. They grew up in the twenties and thirties, and it wasn't an easy time.
Quote from: so_P_bubble on August 28, 2024, 11:16:40 AMIs your S&F opening very slowly? Mine has been doing that for about the last 10 days. Sluggish to open but post OK.
I haven't noticed that.
Mine was slow this morning but so far everything is ok?
Just waiting on the last of the 24 jars of peaches in the canner.......then I can clean up the mess!!
Rick, I dislike the 100° weather.. prefer it around 70° to work in.
They came and did my fire/sprinkler inspection, luckily they started at the top and worked their way down. So, I'm good until the next one they come up with.
Amy, I do like peaches but hate the pits, so I normally buy canned. I do get them in my doctor's program but try to slice around the pit. I usually buy more oranges and apples because they seem to last longer. Kiwis are a new favorite.
Hello Everyfriend! It's been a great day! Cooper came and went and my lunch with the ladies I used to work with was great. We talked and talked and talked and ...well I'm sure you understand that kind of visit! It's so nice of them to pick me up and see that I get to enjoy these gatherings.
When I got home Cathy came over and we did some more finance stuff for my house. She keeps me in line there. It's nice to have my personal accountant!
PATRICIA and AMY, my wedding dress and all the bridsmaids dresses were made by my Mother and Grandmother! So were both my sisters. That's one of the most special things in my life. I think I have a picture of me in my wedding dress. If I can find it, I try to remember to post it! I absolutely adored my dress and I had it around for years.
I hear thunder and I wasn't even aware that we were supposed to get some rain today! I guess we can use it. It's been in the 90s here most of the day! Makes it hard to breathe when you go outside. Cooper didn't want any long walks today and he didn't hang out in the yard today either!
Now I'm thinking that I just might consider this day finished! I've got all my eye drops and I'm ready to throw in the towel and throw on my jammies! Sounds like a good idea to me! I wish you all a peaceful night's sleep and a happy day tomorrow. Make it your own in every way and please don't forget to let us know how you did that!
Good Morning Everyfriend! I'm up and attem!
Good morning.
I am up but I don't know about my attem! Today is put away all canning supplies and wash floors! First need to label and put away the peaches.
Love these cooler mornings......bet I won't be saying that come November!
Patricia, I don't even put the pits in the compost, takes too long to decompose.
Better stay the day.
Enjoy your day and stay safe.
Good morning everyone, morning routine is finished, and coffee's perked. I'm going to try to get a few things done today before they have another water shut off. So far, it's water one and maintenance zero, as the water still takes far too long to heat. Once I timed it at fifteen minutes to pass lukewarm. Their water bill must be expensive
I'm planning on lunch out, so want everything done by then.
I hope our current hot spell will be the last of this summer. It's been in the high 90s for several days and will last until next week. Many schools have had to release children early because the air conditioning units are failing. The maintenance people can't keep up with repairs.
I am staying in and keeping blinds closed and hoping my ac doesn't fail. Not doing much cooking but relying on catering company to bring us food that is easily heated in microwave or salads that can be eaten cold. If we want soup I am calling on Panera. I think our holiday meal will be catered this year, too.
Hang in there, EVERYONE. We'll be complaining about being cold all too soon. Take care, All.
I'm heading for the haystack when I finish here. We had a hot one today. It rained all around us but never on us. It's supposed to hit here overnight. We shall see!
Cooper will be here a bit before 7 tomorrow and his Grammy is coming up from Maryland in the afternoon. Frankie is off this weekend so I expect a houseful!
Got a lot done today but not all the cleaning. The sweeper is still sitting out and I'm sure it will yell at me to get to work and finish up so it can go back and hide in the closet for a while.
AMY, I hope all your jars are put away and I hope David didn't bring any of the southwestern heat back home for you! I'm ready for Fall. My two favorite times of the year are Spring and Fall. I don't like the cold or the heat any more!
PHYLLIS, you do dinner right. Let someone else cook if you don't feel like it! It's the only think I still enjoy in the kitchen but I usually end up with too much!
Now I'm going to hit the haystack! I wish you all a peaceful night's sleep and a happy tomorrow! And don't forget to share it with us! We miss you when you don't stop by.
PATRICIA, I apologize for not commenting on your nice post. We are NOT going to ANCHORAGE, but I looked at the weather you shared anyway.
We sail Sunday the 1st from Seattle to Ketchikan, with one day at sea. Endicott Arm and Daw Scenic, Juneau, Skagway, a day at sea then Victoria and back to Seattle. We are so excited. I have a friend on the ship this week and she will stay on and go with us again. She has been posting a lot of pictures.
We have been working at packing all week. Getting pretty close to getting done......I am so slow as I attempt to fold thing with these two non working shoulders‼️‼️
My best to you all.
Pleasant dreams🦋
Good Morning to one and all!
JENNY, I wish you the trip of a lifetime! Alaska is the only state in the Union that I haven't been able to visit and I've given up the thought. I hang all over everything that PATRICIA posts and if anyone else posts I hang on that. I'll be watching for your account of your trip! It'll be nice having a friend along who has already done the trip. She'll probably be a part time guide!
I awaiting the arrival of Cooper for the day and as I predicted, the sweeper is hollering to get busy and get it's work finished so it can head back to the closet!
I wish Everyfriend a pleasant day. Make it your own in every way. And please don't forget to share it with us! We miss you when you don't stop by!
Good morning..
Overcast here this morning..temp of 42° at the moment. I didn't get it all done yesterday, jars are put away but the floors still need washing. Being a nice day with a bit of a breeze the grass was cut instead.
So today is housework.. oh fun :(
This is a holiday weekend here, lots of trafic and crowded streets and stores.
Phyllis, I think today will be the 15 bean or hand full bean soup in the IP
Jane, he said it was raining when he was there.likly a much needed rain too.
Jenny, enjoy your trip! We were in Skagway for a visit, hope you are allowed to wander into the shops.
Patricia, how long to the next inspection? Do they do it yearly?
Enjoy your day and stay safe.
Good morning, it rained again overnight, but it's 49 now, expecting to be only 61 for a high, but no more rain until the seventh. This is why I'm always so surprised to hear the rest of you talk about August heat.
Traditionally, August is our cool down, rainy month when we transition from summer into fall. September, if it stays usual, will be bright, beautiful but chill.
Mountain ranges separate the Southeast and the Interior, plus our weather patterns run east while the Southeast's weather patterns run south, so our weather is totally different and the arctic or semi arctic regions are different from the lower Interior portion.
Jenny, if you don't already know, Ketchikan holds the record for the most rain of anywhere in North America, and has riverbank erosion and erosion caused landslides in the surrounding mountains. You will enjoy your trip and so nice to have a friend along who has already been.
Jane, this summer has been filled with family, so nice for you after missing out the year before.
Amy, normally the building sprinkler system is every three years with the structural yearly as is the fire extinguisher change out. The firemen only show up for the alarms and extinguishers. I have never had a bad inspection, so it's mainly five or ten minutes and a "see ya."
But since this five-story building takes up the entire city block, with not only apartments, offices, kitchens, recreation rooms and the electronics room, and depending on which part up or down, they start with, it takes time, they had allotted four days, 8a-5p for it and while you don't have to be there, I would rather be there when they're in my apartment.
Phyllis, at times, I would love to order in, the options are available, I need to think about it more.
Daughter Christy is on her way here from Maryland and she should be arriving in about a hal hour. So I'm here to say my good nights before she comes. I don't want to take time away from her.
Today was a great day! It was considerably cooler that it's been with temps in the 60s and 70s all day. Tomorrow we'll be back to hitting the high 80s and I'm not in favor of that. I loved today.
I wish you all a peaceful night's sleep and a happy tomorrow. I'll be in when I can but my plan is to spend as much time with Christy as I can. We'll do some running around and some sitting around and so working around the yard. She's good company and lots of help!
Mak tonight a good one and tomorrow too! If I don't show, don't worry!
Good Morning! Christy arrived about 7:45 last evening and we talked a blue streak until we decided we were both tired and we went to bed. She's still sleeping and her doggie is quiet too. If she's still not up when I finish my coffee, I'm going to go for a walk until she lets me know she up and about.
I hope you all have a great day...better than yesterday but not as good as tomorrow!
Good morning..
We had a nice rain last night.... not sure if it will continue thoday or not. Would like to hang laundry out but we shall see..
Jane ,enjoy your time with family.
Better getthis day started...long list of to do's!
Enjoy your day and stay safe.
Good morning, sunny skies but the humidity is quite high so we may still see more rain. I was able to knock one longstanding chore off my list yesterday, but unfortunately added two more.
Today's task will be cleaning my convection oven, and cleaning and decluttering my kitchen cabinets. I've got too much stuff, appliances and cookware that I no longer use and need to donate. Some of it dating from my meal prep days, so it's been too long.
I did find a large square glass jar on the coat closet shelves, so may be able to use that for the velvet flowers. Not only that, but I have the pampas grass, eucalyptus stems and essential oils, so only need to try a new arrangement.
Next week, I plan to pick up the printed labels for my folders that gave me so much trouble. Who knew that finding simple labels was so time-consuming and expensive?
Next month, my sister, who's been everywhere, it seems, living in France and Italy and traveling to China, is having her last hurrah. She's planning a road trip across country with two friends to Boston and then to Portland, Oregon before returning home. She says she plans to stay home after this.
In my twenties and thirties, I lived all over the south and in Texas, saw fourty-six states mostly via husbands in the military, but other than Canada and Mexico, never went out of the country or overseas, the only one in my family who hadn't.
Jane, enjoy your visit with Christy. What type of pup does she have? Is Cooper still feeling territorial?
Amy, good morning and I hope the rain holds off. That is a new four-letter word for me and the rest of the state. The southeast has seen record floods between May and August, and erosion issues have caused several large landslides, killing one and requiring evacuations.
The climate change issue had a glacier receding and the Kuskokwim River moving into the space the glacier left behind, causing floods, and the rain on previous slides did the rest.
This is a quick Good Night Everyfriend! Christy is watching a movie that her sister recommended and that doesn't interest me so I'm going to hit the ded a bit early. We had a great day today...spent it together and talked a blue streak! Then she went on a short vist to her long time best friend's house and when she came back I had dinner ready.
Now I wish you all a peaceful night's sleep and happy tomorrow! Make the day your own in every way and let us know how you did that.
Someone asked what kind of dog Christy has. It's little and mostly light brown and I forget the name. I'll find out and write it down and let you know tomorrow. She's a little doll baby and loves to play! And is more than willing to take an afternoon nap with whoever ends up on the couch. Her name is Lennie!
