Dust If You Must
by Rose Milligan

Dust if you must, but wouldn't it be better
To paint a picture, or write a letter,
Bake a cake, or plant a seed;
Ponder the difference between want and need?

Dust if you must, but there's not much time,
With rivers to swim, and mountains to climb;
Music to hear, and  books to read;
Friends to cherish, and life to lead.

Dust if you must, but the world's out there
With the sun in your eyes, and the wind in your hair;
A flutter of snow, a shower of rain,
This day will not come around again.

Dust if you must, but bear in mind,
Old age will come and it's not kind.
And when you go (and go you must)
You, yourself, will make more dust.

Abe And Esther Are Flying To Australia
An old couple, Abe and Esther are flying to Australia for a two-week vacation to celebrate their 50th anniversary.
Suddenly, over the public address system, the Captain announces,
"Ladies and Gentlemen, I am afraid I have some very bad news
Our engines have ceased functioning and we will attempt an emergency landing
Luckily, I see an uncharted island below us and we should be able to land on the beach
However, the odds are that we may never be rescued and will have to live on the island for the rest of our lives!"
Thanks to the skill of the flight crew, the plane lands safely on the island.
An hour later the old man Abe turns to his wife and asks,
"Esther, did we pay our $5,000 PBS pledge check yet?"
"No, sweetheart," she responds.
Abe, still shaken from the crash landing, then asks,
"Esther, did we pay our American Express card yet?"
"Oy, no! I'm sorry
I forgot to send the check," she says.
"One last thing, Esther
Did you remember to send a check for the Visa and MasterCard this month?" he asks.
"Oh, forgive me, Abie," begged Esther.
"I didn't send that one, either."
Abe grabs her and gives her the biggest kiss in 40 years.
Esther pulls away and asks him,
"So, why did you kiss me?"
Abe answers,
"They'll find us."

Obedience is not enough. Unless he is suffering, how can you be sure that he is obeying your will and not his own?

Power is in inflicting pain and humiliation. Power is in tearing human minds to pieces and putting them together again in new shapes of your own choosing. Do you begin to see, then, what kind of world we are creating?

It is the exact opposite of the stupid hedonistic Utopias that the old reformers imagined. A world of fear and treachery and torment, a world of trampling and being trampled upon, a world which will grow not less but MORE merciless as it refines itself.

Progress in our world will be progress towards more pain. The old civilizations claimed that they were founded on love or justice. Ours is founded upon hatred. In our world there will be no emotions except fear, rage, triumph, and self-abasement. Everything else we shall destroy -- everything.

Musings of a Dog
by Vivien Wade

It's very nice to be a dog,
And sit at my master's feet
To be fed, groomed and loved,
And go walkies down the street

But I think I'd rather be a cat
Having long sharp claws,
To climb high up into trees,
I can't do that with my paws.

Maybe I should be a fish,
And swim each day in the sea,
For then I wouldn't need a bath,
How wonderful that would be.

A bird, a rabbit, even a mouse,
At times I would like to be,
But when I stop and really think
The best thing to be is me!

Not much to report yet this morning. It should be a fairly decent day today, staying in the mid to high 70s. Should be sunny a bit later today.

My sister and I are going over to Hoss's for lunch today.

I started Oscar on a calming food supplement the vet suggested from Nutramax to see if it helps keeping him from pulling his fur out. He has been leaving bunches of fur for me to pick up two or three times a day lately. Shan starting this new round of fur pulling by tackling him last week. At least I think that is what started it up again.

Good morning..

Shhh....the temp is 40° don't want to wake it and have it go sky high!!!

Work was accomplished with wheels on wagon, new top on it and generator put on the wagon. Neighbour came over and gave me a hand lifting it. Later on in the day he phone to say listen!! I could hear  baby crows cawing then he said go feed your crows!  :2funny: I did for the 4th time that day.

Work inside  today playing catch up on chores that didn't get done. Frist need to go into town to pick up a few things . Town will be a can of worms, with tourists from all over coming to the events being held so I hope to beat the rush.

Jane , so good to see you in here!!!  :smitten:

MG, our animals sure worry us, not eating, pulling hair out and not being able to tell us the reason.  Hope the new food works. I  wonder if the med Jane told me about would work from your cats? Called Rescue Remedy, might be something to look into???

Patricia, hope your birthday yesterday was a good one..

Rick, cooler temps here today got to love tat. Yesterday we did have some smoke from the west but not the hot temps.

Enjoy your day and stay safe.

Good Morning, Everyfriend!  Today is my day off from Cooper.  He's not here because my granddaughter has the day off today!  I've already taken my walk and put drops in my eyes and checked the stuff on my phone that calls me daily.

I love hearing the things that keep you all busy.  And I love BUBBLE's openings for the new month!  I'll be back to see what's going on later.  I wish you all a great day!  Don't forget to let us know what you did.  We've very interested...or is that word "nosy"?

Here too. Made it all the way down to 62° last night. Luckily I remembered how to shut the A/C off. I thought I heard it give a big sigh. Today might be a good day to clean the filters. Cooler is nice, but it is wet - not raining right now, but wet out there.

HI JANE!!!! Glad you are back.

I will look into it, Amy. Oscar is now off the Prednisone. I found out that the vet's office in Camp Hill gave me the wrong Prednisone meds, last time, for Oscar. It was straight up Prednisone. The vet was upset when I mentioned the refill was round pills rather than oblong. I should have been given the oblong pills, specially formulated for cats. Cats can't utilize regular prednisone very well.

Good morning all,
Really enjoyed the posts this morning! Been having internet difficulties. Ron is taking a few days off this week. He joined our daughter and her family in Puget Sound, then headed over to Victoria on Vancouver Isl. He has so much to do, he hasn't had time to put up the booster permanently yet. We're both slowing down; everything takes so much longer than it used to.

Rescue Remedy is flower essences. Its the same solution for pets/people and non-toxic. Works great!

Its 64° this morning. Expecting more T-storms and there is a myth of rain. We had T-storms yesterday starting around 4:00 p.m.. The only rain we  saw was an occasional smattering. People in other parts of this region had flood warnings. Forecast for rain is greater. We'll see.

I decided to take another whack at that big log and managed to finagle 5 more chunks. I limbed and stacked several more pushed over trees. Those Gkids were very busy! I came in to rest. Around 11:00 Kato started carrying on like crazy. I went out to see what was going on. He was barking and looking at something along the side of the RV. I peeked around the corner, rattlesnake! Coiled, buzzing and ready to strike! He was 15 feet away. I told Kato to get back, drew my 9mm and started shooting. I wanted to shoot him in the head. I emptied my clip into him. He was still alive. I couldn't believe I missed! I went back in and got my revolver with the snake loads and my machete. I hadn't recently cleaned the revolver. In 8 years I've never seen a rattlesnake. My daughter saw one up were I get the best cell service. Its rocky and drier. My revolver misfired; wouldn't shoot at all. The oil gummed. I took a long walking stick and moved the snake, who was headed for underneath the RV back. I got my other clip, and put another 6 rounds into him. He wasn't looking so good anymore. I used the walking stick to pin down his head, then whacked it off with the machete. I hadn't missed him as much as I thought. He was full of holes. Ron told me "snakes are really hard to kill."

Since I've not seen any rattlers down here, and archery season is soon to start, and I get harassment, malicious mischief etc, every year before and during the season, as well as poachers. And the afternoon before this I smelled ciggie breath really strongly... I called LEOs and filed an incident report: suspicious activity. One of the people who's contended with property owners up here hunts snakes. Could be live to sell. He's been doing it so long he feels entitled to hunt on other peoples property. He actually shot a guy preventing him, before my time here. I've seen an old guy in camo on my property spying on me. I've smelled him quite a bit. LEOs don't act on smell testimony, its not conclusive enough, but I still have to report it.

Rick, we have windows and doors open and a lovely breeze blowing through!
OLM, yes they can but the one has a wee bit of alcohol in it.

Yes, Rescue Remedy formulated for humans is generally safe for pets, but the pet version often uses glycerin as a preservative instead of the alcohol-based preservative in the human version. While the human version is safe in small amounts, the pet version is often preferred due to the lack of alcohol. Both can be added to water or food, or applied directly to the pet's paws or gums.

Callie, good to see you! I am doing your DD today..floors are washed ,chocolate zuchinni cake in oven and now to go sew. :)

Bubble thank you for the new start, really enjoyed it and I am passing some along to friends. Thank you!

Good morning, it's 64 and sunny at 9:25 am and heading to 80 for a high.

Amy, I did enjoy my birthday, I received two cakes  :D ,  Then on the fourth, I'm being taken out for breakfast and shopping.

Glad to see everyone back and posting again!

I agree, don't use the human rescue remedy on animals. I've used it, pet version, mainly for times like loud noises, fireworks and when I have to lock Farrah in the bedroom.

Unfortunately, I'll be doing that for the 4th, 5th, and 7th, while the drain dismantle people are in between 8 to 5pm to fix their "mishap."

Jane ,so good to have you back. Enjoy your walk with Cooper.I see the store has small cukes for dills and may get 1/2 bushel for dills and pickles. Our beets are also ready to pull to do pickled beets. Made mustard yesterday, did 3 batches so we have some to give away.

Rick, hope you are getting these cooler days. Will make it a lot nicer on the electricity bill!!

Good morning everyone.
Its 58°F. There is mist on the meadow. I didn't think we had enough rain for mist, but there it is. :o Ron arrived at 10:00 last night. He is bound and determined to start the insulation today.

Amy, pickles and mustard! Yumm😋. How is your hubby doing?

Patricia, two full size cakes? Did you have people to share them with? How lovely!

I'm still cleaning the forest. Might do some laundry and mending today. I heard back from the last lawyers firm. They declined to take my case. They did give me two leads. I'm waiting to hear back from the first one I tried. I'm also waiting for my EI's replacement to schedule my video apt. He needed time to review my records. Did I tell you I'm making the apt. to establish a baseline before they poison me?

Nice to see you again Jane!

Have a lovely day everyone🙂

Good Morning Everyfriend!  I think it's still morning!  I've been getting a lot done around here, including turning off the light in my shed when my neighbor called me to tell me it was on!  Cooper is here today and he had his breakfast and a nice walk and then we spent about a half hour out in the yard.  New he's sleeping in the living room.

I read the paper and I have the crossword puzzle laid out to tackle later.  My morning eyedrops are finished and I'll be at the afternoon ones when afternoon tells me it's here!

There's not a lot of stuff going on in my old age but I'm sure glad to be around to see it!

I enjoy all the things you all write and I look forward to reading it daily.  I wonder how DENVER is doing.  She was having some rough times!

I guess I better get some more stuff done around here.  I wish you all a great day!  Make it your own in every way and don't forget to tell us how you did that!  Maybe we can do that, too!

Good morning, 55 and sunny with a coming high of 75.

Nothing new here except for moving everything under the sinks back onto the living room shelves for the fourth, fifth, and seventh. Plus, my Monday birthday breakfast is off, because an order was changed and will be here on Monday, while I'm barred from my apt., between 8-5 for the drain dismantle folks. I'll need to hang out in the lobby...what an unexpected thrill.

My two cakes were both the size of an extra large cupcake, one applesauce and one lemon so no chocolate and one is still in the fridge.

We had yesterday's high at 79 and starting Sunday, the rain is expected. Other than that, Farrah's good and the meet and greets are too.

Good morning all!
It was right around 80°F yesterday, and a relief. Ron got the hopper vent installed in the bathroom. The he began the insulation. He put in the batts in the bedroom and down the hall, then went up and insulated the loft wall. Today he'll insulate the roof above the loft. He'll apply plastic vapor barrier over everything he insulated and vacuum again. I can't go in until thats done. Too much lung damage.

Rick, yep watching out for rust. 👍 I've been surprised to discover iopropyl has enough "oil" to inhibit rust. I'll treat any rust directly if it shows up.

Jane, who left the shed light on?

Patricia, that's the perfect size.😀 I made my own birthday cake. A buttery pudding cake with chocolate chunks swirled in. Best eaten warm. Yumm!😋

Its 55°F this morning. Rain and T-storms forecasted. I need to get moving if I want to get any outside work done.

Good morning, another busy day here, laundry and other chores to do today with the drain maintenance people back in my apartment on the 4th, 5th, and 7th. They're doing vertical floor sections, & hopefully this is the last of it for my area. Coffee just finished, everyone's been fed and meet and greets are ongoing.

Has everyone seen the photos of Bubble's second granddaughter? She's five months old today and has a beautiful smile! This is her son, Tany's first child.   https://www.seniorsandfriends.org/index.php?msg=265743

Ok, can slow down a bit and have a cuppa tea.

Yesterday went well, other than the bumper to bumper traffic.  Saw one accident where the hood of a nice truck was wrinkled back. :( Dr. gave hubby a shot in his shoulder and froze 3  spots on his face. We dusted it home after that.
I thought I could do some work here but that went down the drain..so playing catch up today.

Patricia, LOL....cute ,wish I could drink coffee  but thankful tea is ok.....for now. Bet you will be happy when all that is done and you and Farrah can settle back into your routine.

OLM, thank you for asking, he is much better now and the shot the Dr gave him helped a lot! I used to dislike handling insulation  on jobs as you would itch for the rest of the day if you didn't wear long sleeves.!

Company just drove in...

Enjoy your day and stay safe

Not sure what is happening today other than housework. Will soon start pickling and that job will be out of the way.

Good morning everyone!

Phyllis, Its good to see your post.🙂

This is for all who slog through drudge work🏅, they are the true heros. Rarely does it get recognition, but without it being done, nothing else could ever get done.

Amy, glad he's doing better.🙂 Ron used to handle insulation like it was nothing. Time has taught him differently. He wore a Teletubby suit😆 He got almost as much done as he'd hoped. He ran out of staples for the plastic vapor barrier. The loft is open insulation. I won't be able to go in the tiny house this week. I itch and burn just looking in through the door.

I've begun pulling game/trespasser camera's and cards and replacing batteries. More forest cleaning ad laundry. Reviewing cam cards when I'm too tired to move. Its currently mostly sunny with 30% chance of showers. We started the day at 55°F. Heading for upper 70°s.

Loved the pic Patricia!

Have a great day everyone!

Good morning everyone,
I only got one pile picked up yesterday and my UTV said "charge me." So I plugged it in. I decided to get that sharpering done: chainsaw, machete. I discovered that Ron had borrowed my round chainsaw file and forgot to put it back. He seems to have taken it home with him. I sharpened the machete. Since it was overcast and occasionally sprinkling I decided to review cam cards. I only had 5 cards. It is one of the most boring and time consuming chores ever! One card alone had over 60,000 captures. Mostly snow falling and windy branches. Sheesh! It took me until 7:30 p.m.. I only stopped to feed and walk the dogs at their regular time. But those are done for now.
This morning when I opened the blinds there were elk in the solar yard, just across the drive. Pretty cool. Its 50°F this morning , mostly sunny and heading for 80°, allegedly.

Have a great day everyone!

Mighty quiet in here today. Not much happening here. I did manage Not to read yet today. Spent some time looking up "hot spots" on cats. Talked to the vet yesterday. There should be the cat version of Prednisone for me to pick up tomorrow, but I am hoping to try a spray on him. Just trying to find something that will work. I am not sure if it is allergy related or stress again. This didn't show up until he was off the Prednisone.

I've gotten several come-ons from FanDuel Casino in the mail lately. I don't gamble, don't visit the sites. However, they have been hitting hard on YouTube with their ads lately. How much you want to bet Google sold my address to them. So annoying.

Are you affected by the haze created by the Canadian wild fires?

Amy, how far are you from the fires?

Central Oklahoma has had lower-than-usual temperatures recently. That's about to change back to "feels like" more than 100º.:(

Callie, - Yes, I felt it. The 3.0 was followed a week later with a 2.7.  Neither one caused any destruction, but did get the attention of many.
When I go out front and look toward NYC I can see what looks like a very light haze. No doubt the smoke in the air. I see air quality warnings, but don't notice any smell or breathing problems.
Hope Miss Ellen survived our recent heat. The bad part about the City is that all day the big buildings soak up the heat, --- then give it off during the night. So there's no cool evenings following hot days.

I'm having a chuckle here (at me). This is probably the longest post I've made here in ages. I'm not a good writer.

Rick, this is hopefully the final stretch of a drain dismantle and replacement of a block long, five-story building that began on April third, and is slated to end on the 8th, two days from now. They are working in vertical shifts, fifth floor to first, beginning on the 100s and finishing with the 500s, apartment numbers. Each section has a period of water shut off days that are aggravating to say the least. They have one working bathroom on the first floor and five portapotties set out in the front yard. Laundry can only be done on the weekends, when everyone vies to get theirs done first.

We've had air quality alerts these past two days because of the smoke. It got up to around 80 today, stayed cloudy, and is still very humid. Oscar has decided he doesn't even want to tough his new cat food. Because it was on backorder, I bought another combo of the stuff he has been eating. He absolutely won't touch it, in fact, he wouldn't tough anything this morning. He downed some dental treats, and almost declined what I put out for him this evening. He starts back on his meds tomorrow morning.

Sue told me that the Roy Rogers franchise is trying to make a comeback but she didn't know where. I checked their site and noticed that all of the Roy Rogers Restaurants are, so far, on the PA Turnpike.

Sheetz has started construction on my old health club's site. Great! Just, Great! I will probably have to find another way when I go that way, which is often. The Sheets is sure to cause yet more congestion there what with people in and out of the place at a fairly busy corner. Lights or not, people still will be trying to get in and out of their parking/gas area. I foresee more accidents, at least for a while. And still I ask, if the US population has been decreasing, how come we need more and more apartments, houses, stores, etc. Lots of abandoned places around. People just pick up and go leaving a huge mess for someone else to clean up, which of course, they never or rarely do.

Good evening everyone,
I've had a couple of cool days and have been able to work a lot longer outside. I've done a lots more forest clean up in just 2 days than I was accomplishing in a week! Yay!

I have secured a lawyer if the Ag forensic scientist (drift expert) confirms the threat of pesticide drift is probable given the topography/winds. We are in the process of scheduling his visit.

Looks like some very interesting conversations. I'm so tired I can't think. I dragging myself off to bed.

Goodnight all!

Good to hear, OLM.

I tagged this YouTube offering a few days back. For about a week, I have been watching in the mornings the Perseids Meteor Shower. There are lots of them now, but I read that the peak of the shower is August 12-13. I usually watch on YouTube via my TV beginning around 8am on the East Coast. Although it is not quite dark yet in Hawaii, I have already spotted several this morning watching on the computer. Make sure you click the buttons for full screen and HD if on your computer. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6g4Fh8K-MhY

Good morning.

We are heading back into fry weather..starting at 55° at the moment.

Have the beans already picked. Beets can stay there till other things get done.

Still no Janie.....will give her a call later this morning.

Callie, we are far away from the fires but there are days the smoke heads this way. My friend is right in the think of the fires and so far hasnt had to evacuate.

OLM, nice that you found someone that will help you.

Rick, back on goes the A/C . At least we are comfortable in our home.

Patricia, hope this is soon over with and life gets back to normal for you.

Enjoy your day and stay safe.

Looks that way, according to the weather guesser. I don't get much outside time anyway, but it's nice NOT having to run the A/C. Got an email this morning from the Electric and Gas Company, telling me that my bill is ready and offering me the option to pay now - on line. Think I'll wait for the Bill to show up.

Good morning everyone,
We had several hours of hard rain in the night. Its 60°F, heading for 69°F with a slight chance of rain and T-storms. By Monday we'll be back up to the upper 80°s. I'm thankful for the rain and cooler weather. Yesterday was Kato's birthday. He's now 6.

We are down to 5 large fires in the Pacific Northwest Region.

Thank you Rick, Mars, and Amy🙂

Rick, I think you write just fine. Glad you got a break from the heat, but also glad you have A/C. 🙂

I don't get much news with my weak internet so I appriciate you all sharing it. Was there any damage from that quake?

Mars, Thanks for the heads up on the Perseids. I'll have to try to find out what time they're overhead here and get out to watch them. 😃

Patricia, I remember a poster in the student's store back when I was in Jr high. It showed a rope with a knot in the end and a kitten clinging to it. It had the caption, " when you reach the end of you rope, tie a knot and hang on." While you're nowhere near the end of your rope, the upheaval to you and Farrah's lives must be so hugely aggravating. When I read about  it, I was reminded of that poster. Hang on, only 2 more days.

Mars, its the housing bubble. It will burst soon and prices will plummet. Plus, all the illegal aliens that are self deporting, and those deported will vacate plenty of dwellings. Landlords will be bummed because of the loss of gov subsidies (section 8 ). But young people, and those with lower income will be able to afford homes again, especially if they purchase "fixer upper's." There are plenty of youtubes to teach the skills.

Good morning, It's 52 now, heading up to a possible 80 again today. Morning routine and coffee's finished, Farrah's fed and  meet and greets won't start until another hour or so, as I'm up early.

Amy, today is the last water shut off day, 8 to 5, so I try to get up early to arrange everything beforehand.  There are three vertical sections remaining as they move further toward the end of this wing, and the "end," of their project. And to add another twist, my kitchen light went out yesterday, and I'm waiting on maintenance to replace that. I do have my stove and or sink light, but it's simply one more insult to injury.

I hope you hear from Jane today.

MG, I had to look up Sheetz. I had never heard of the chain, and not something you'd want on a busy corner.

I bookmarked your link as we rarely see stars or other sky events here in the city, as in the summer it's practically 24/7 daylight, and in the winter, it's normally clouded over. We do have the Northern Lights all the time and while it's fascinating if you never see it, after a while it's simply there. Most astronomical events are usually too far south or on an eastern trajectory.

Here's hoping all have a good day.

We did get a bit of rain last evening maybe 10 min. Love the smell of the air afterwards. All areas are under a total fire ban some cities have put a restriction on watering lawn , washing cars and timing showers!

Better get the day started.

Good Afternoon. At the moment it is 82o and partly sunny. The humidity is down quite a bit. Hurray!

Got some unfortunate news this morning. My eldest niece's husband, not too long ago, changed jobs to work for Google. Google recently decided that anyone working from home and living within 50 miles of one of their sites would have to work on site from now on or get laid-off. This is all part of their shift to AI, just like Amazon and Microsoft to name a few. Because he hasn't been with Google long enough, he doesn't have any insurance. Why were they hiring if they were going to lay people off in less than a year? To top it all off, my grand nephew ended up at the emergency because of an enlarged testicle. The Dr. was worried that it could have been a problem that would sometime down the road cause a hernia. ? ? ? At least that is what I got out of it. This is numbers 1 and 2. Number 3 is that my youngest niece, after having a surgery requiring an overnight stay, had an episode of very low blood pressure. They couldn't find any leakage, pumped extra blood into her, said she is good to go.She is supposed to be coming home today.

Today I am going to coast.I hope.

Partly resolved Amy. Katie is home and was doing okay as of last evening. I don't think they had an explanation for why her blood pressure crashed. Jules is going to have another scan to see what up with him. I have ordered a topical for Oscar's hot spot and  some pet wipes for use on both cats when needed.I am holding off on giving Oscar any more Prednisolone in order to give the daily dose of Purina's Calming Care and the I/D cat food a chance to work.

Looks like it will be a mostly sunny day today with temps staying in the 70s.

Jane, I wish your granddaughter well with her studies. Ithaca is (or was when I visited years ago) a lovely area. My youngest sister and family lived near there (Trumble's Corner) for years where her four children were raised. In fact, Jason is still there, living in Ithaca.

Other than going out to lunch with my sister, I ended up not doing much yesterday. My back decided to be a considerable bother. Today, fortified with extra Ibuprofen, I intend on getting some more stuff rearranged and/or thrown out. This is a very long process because I often don't stay at it for very long.

The humidity is way up again this morning with temps to go up over 90oF again. It is 67oF now.

It's 44 presently, and we should get up into the mid-seventies today. Meet and greets are done, but that's about all. I simply haven't been feeling it the past few days with the sniffles.

However, Farrah and my plants are thriving, My new cacti don't seem to be doing much beyond that initial growth, but they remain puffy and green. I really don't know much about cacti other than using cacti soil, and giving the container its daily quarter turn.

I need to go to the city sometime this week and today may be our only warmer dryer day, so I just need to find some enthusiasm for the trip.

Good morning, Rick and Amy! Hope there are more checking in or at least a little wave hello!

Jane, I remember when Kiran would spend her after school, afternoons with you. I'd swear that was last week! It's good to see you posting again.

MG, I'd love it to be warmer again, but traditionally, August is our rainy cool down month, and it's certainly lived up to its potential. Today seems to be the only dry day this month, other than perhaps the 20th.

Rick, I understand that, I just don't know anything about cacti.

My other plants are huge, big, leafy and really need bigger pots than the 12-inch ones they're in now, but they're already overcrowding the shelves, and it's too dangerous for the plants and for Farrah to move them lower. One is close to three feet already.

MG, our neighbour is having back troubles at the moment too. He has tried everything and is now waiting to go to the chiropractor.  Not nice when your back goes out more that you do!!

Rick on the way to the city I noticed trees dying due to lack of water. We have fires to the west and east of us here. Last winters ice storm is making it difficult for the firefighters with so many trees and branches down for it.

Good morning everyone,

Its been hot here, yesterday topped put at 93°F. Way too hot for me. My internet 2nds it. It was good to catch up with everybody's news. Hope all who've had health problems are doing better today. Glad for you Patricia that the plumping fiasco is finally completed! My youngest sister had a cactus plant for years. I don't recall it ever grew.

MG, I used to go to the chiropractor, but with my condition, I can't. So mine gave me a couple of stretches that help a lot: the yoga move "Downward Facing Dog" if you can. If you can't get to the floor, use a chair. The important part is to bend over and let your head hand limply. Next, put your shoulders down and back, now attempt to "put your forehead to your armpit. Do it to both sides. The last one, do it in bed if you can't get to the floor. Lay on your back, spread your arms out straight from the shoulders, turn your head to the right. Take your right knee and bring it across your body to the left, as though you are trying to touch the floor. Push the knee as far as you can while working hard to keep your head turned the opposite direction as far as it will go. Switch sides. That last one really helps when my lower back goes out. I also take homeopathic arnica to reduce the inflammation/pain of strained muscles. I don't use ibuprophin, it has side effects.

Ron has gotten 1/2 the tiny house insulated and the vapor barrier up. I've been continuing "forest cleaning" In the cooler morning hours. I putter with camp chores and watering, then when it was "too hot" I've been retiring to internet research (feeble) and when my patience gives out, an Agatha Christie marathon. Its forecasted to be 87°F today, and is 63° currently.

Have a great day everyone!

Good morning, everyone here and those looking in later. "Some sun, 52 now, then turning cloudy, high 72. Tonight, cloudy with a stray shower."

Morning routine, feeding everyone and meet and greets done for the day, with coffee just finished. I did go out yesterday, picked up a few needed non-food items and need to return some plugs for my externals and their hub. I need to take the old ones back for to show the electronics clerks because my explanations for the male plugins are confusing the clerks.

Rick, my cacti originally grew a few inches and then stopped. One of them shed a few lower puffy stalks as it grew, and now they seemingly slowed to a crawl. One of the three, is about three inches tall, but seems to be fanning out sideways. The other two, grow new tiny stalks but in tiny increments. I'm using special cacti soil and letting it dry out before re-watering.

MG, I feel for you, my right hip and leg seem to be on a permanent ache. I try to get as many steps in as I can, it seems to help, that and full body stretches.

Amy, our days of heat are over. This is the last month we'll see the 70s until next year. I'm already getting my humidifier cleaned and the filters ready for my Britta.

OLM, I'm always surprised, it seems, when everyone talks about August heat. In the arctic, it's a cool down, rainy month with losses of summer's constant daylight as everything seems to prepare for winter. Now, September is usually cooler, but beautiful with crisp gleaming light.

October is when the leaves change and drop, with a possible snow dusting. It's a cloud parable because in the summer you don't want constant clouding, but in the winter, it's necessary to keep the heat in. You don't want clear nights and days because with almost constant darkness, the heat escapes, and you can get twenty-five, thirty or more temperatures below.

Many of the comets, stars and other cosmic events seen at lower altitudes simply aren't seen in the northern arctic regions due to the earth's curves. We do have almost constant northern lights or the aurora which brings in almost as many tourists as the summer does.

And we think we have it bad..."A Continent of Heat

Wildfires in Europe killed at least three people yesterday—two in Spain and one in Albania. Thousands of people have been evacuated as blazes broke out across parts of Spain, France, Greece, Portugal, Turkey, and the Balkans.

In many places, the danger is compounded by a dayslong heat wave caused by a persistent high-pressure system pulling warm, dry air across the continent. France and Hungary have seen record-high temperatures, with parts of France placed under the country's highest-level heat alert. Albania, Montenegro, Germany, Spain, Italy, and the UK have also issued heat advisories. Parts of Spain this week witnessed temperatures above 110 degrees Fahrenheit.

Since the 1980s, Europe has outpaced other continents in warming, with temperatures increasing at twice the speed of the global average. That trend is partly attributed to reduced air pollution on the continent; efforts to crack down on aerosols have resulted in reduced cloud cover, enabling more solar radiation to reach land (how climatologists predict trends).

Energy can be neither created or destroyed. -- It can be converted.

The windmills are used to convert energy from wind to electricity.

That energy is removed from the movement of our weather systems. Altering the weather.

Think about that for a while.

"Wind energy is harnessed from moving air, and it has been used for thousands of years, whether it was to propel the first sailboats or to spin the blades on a windmill. This is a type of kinetic energy that is generated from air currents and that can be transformed into electricity through an electric generator. It is a renewable energy source that is inexhaustible and non-polluting."

Ah, yes, the 1st Law of Thermodynamics.

No, I am not saying that climate change is a hoax. And I do commend those striving for healthier air to breathe. But, climate change happens whether we try to control it or not. The question, in the (very)long term, is whether or not we are actually helping or hurting. People really need to be mindful of the Law of Unintended Consequences. Weigh what we lose and what we gain by jumping headlong into giant sized climate change (and climate change propaganda) projects. I am actually more concerned over large solar array farms that not only result in loss of wildlife (birds, mostly) and most definitely, habitat for humans as well as wildlife.

Oh, and speaking of, lucky us. We are going to be getting several big data centers in the area.  Found this article about our nuclear power plants on the Susquehanna River. I knew they were reviving Three Mile Island, but look who has signed on to much getting power from them. https://6abc.com/post/amazon-building-trade-centers-pennsylvania-marking-largest-private-sector-investment-state-history/16713134/ Lancaster, York and Carlisle are "looking forward" to new Data Centers being built. Some outfit called Coreweave is planning a data center in Lancaster. In Carlisle, Pennsylvania Data Center Partners and PowerHouse Data Centers are planning a data center "campus".  Energy Capital Partners, the parent company of the outfit that runs Peach Bottom Power Plant, is planning to build one along Interstate 82 in York County. Amazon is planning data centers in Berks County and Berwick (Columbia County). I am  according to this article, spending bucks on renewable energy projects. https://www.aboutamazon.com/news/aws/amazon-pennsylvania-investment-cloud-infrastructure-ai-innovation

wow! This is a touchy topic. It requires diplomacy, and tact. I have very little of either. So I hope I do not offend with my input...

Patricia, unfortunately, the facts are that windmills do pollute. We have tons of them in the Columbia Basin, a veritable forest. They leak oil, and often fracture, cascading and spewing the motor oil all over the place. It requires environmental clean up crews. Next, the manufacture and disposal of them are extremely toxic. I know you are an excellent researcher, dig into those 2 things. Just so you know, my son has a degree in Environmental Engineering. He has come to despise the lies about the windmills. The cost: benefit ratio is not supportive the way we are doing it. Its run by corporate greed. They do alter the climate just like running a fan in your living room alters the atmospheric microcosm of the living room. They adversely impact wildlife.

MG, I too am for non-toxic and healthy environments. I believe I get what you are saying about climate change. I will say it: Climate has always changed. It isn't stagnant. The hoopla created over "climate change" is a scam. It fear mongering and divisive, the intent is to control the massive through divisiveness, just like racial or class divisions. I actually read a paper put out by the leading meteorologist that originally headed up the Climate Panel. He stepped down and blew the scam apart. Its political, not scientifically factual. If it was due to man made pollutants, then why are so many of the mouth pieces jetting around in private jets? Because they know its a scam. They get $$ and power. If it were true, no country (China) would get less stringent rules. But its not. Look at world history going back through all recorded weather patterns. Look at the ice flow research. Heck, look at pictures of midwest snow where its feet 10'+, back in the 20s-30s. Global warming, global cooling, yes climate cyclically changes. Things like volcanic eruptions and forest destruction drive the cycle, causing wider temp swings. Do I like pollutants? Adamantly, No! I'm all for non-toxic and the cessation of raping the environment for profit. The "Climate Change" rallying cry is propaganda. They want to keep it alive because it distracts from their manipulation and corruption. Al Gore has chanted both Global Warming and Global Cooling. He flies about in his private jet. He and his ilk are conmen, IMHO.

Good morning, it's 53 presently, cloudy and cooler, only going to have a high in the mid-sixties with some drizzle. Meet and greets, morning routine and feeding everyone have been done and coffee's on.

Bubble that is way too hot! I hope that the government is providing assistance or with providing various safe rooms as we do here when the fires and smoke are bad.

Amy, I used to help my mom and dad with the acre garden and putting up food for the winter. My parents also took us along to help our neighbors in their gardens. I did the same in Kentucky with my second husband and his family. Nowadays, I no longer have a garden or meal prep as I used to. I do make what I call my meat bases and divide those up and freeze for various meals with additions down the line. I suppose that's a type of meal prep.

MG, I agree with you about large solar farms, especially with greener energy sources being available. I don't entirely agree with you that climate change is natural or has been naturally occurring. Man hasn't always been a good steward of his environment.

OLM, I researched and found this among others, "Are Windmills Bad for the Environment? A Comprehensive Analysis

The answer is complex. While wind energy is undeniably a cleaner alternative to fossil fuels, its environmental impact, though significantly less, is not zero. This article delves into the nuances of wind energy's ecological footprint, addressing common concerns and misconceptions surrounding its environmental impact"

Rick, that is not what I meant. Let me explain.
Quote from: RAMMEL on August 13, 2025, 08:45:28 PM"Energy can be neither created or destroyed. -- It can be converted.

The windmills are used to convert energy from wind to electricity.

That energy is removed from the movement of our weather systems. Altering the weather.

Think about that for a while."

I refuted that, but you continue to repeat a phase without saying whether you still believe the above comment and why, with backup.

As someone recently said to me, "They said the world was flat at one time....now they know different!"

This is the complete statement you are referring to.

"The statement refers to the law of conservation of energy, which asserts that energy cannot be created or destroyed, only transformed from one form to another. This means that the total energy in a closed system remains constant over time."

Where do you think the energy comes from to turn those windmills?

So I guess to comply I should use the word TRANSFORM rather than CONVERT.
The windmills transform energy from wind (part of our weather system) to electricity.
Title: Re: Soda Shoppe August 1 , 2025

I repeated a well accepted theory - Energy cannot be ...........
I pointed out that the wind (part of our weather) turns the windmills.
I said to think about that.

I didn't mean to make this so difficult.
---------------------
On a different unscientific thought, things have been getting warmer since we've been putting up more and more windmills. ----- Just another thing to think about.

Acording to the quote you posted the correct word for me to have used is "transformed". I probably said "converted". In my game that's close enough - sorry.

There appears to be research regarding micro-climates and wind turbines at least since the 1980s. What I found, so far, indicate that wind turbines can change the local climate, and in one case I noted they said the reach was at least 10 miles from the turbines. They tested both land and sea turbines, and in various weather/wind conditions, and whether or not the turbine was running. Most of these are scientific papers, many just the abstracts, not the whole paper. Wiley Online Library even lists an abstract called "Wind farm and solar park effects on plant–soil carbon cycling: uncertain impacts of changes in ground-level microclimate", authors are Alona Armstrong, Susan Waldron, Jeanette Whitaker, and Nicholas J. Ostle. https://onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/full/10.1111/gcb.12437  Now that is not something I would expect to see. I suppose if we get polluted by wind farms everywhere, we could eventually actually see some more extensive change, but still not overall global, I think. Right now it all looks negligible, apparently measurable, but still negligible. Speaking of wind farms everywhere, I vaguely remember seeing video of wind turbines right in a city or very close by a few years ago. Can't remember where, but it was in and around a port city.

Good morning everyone,
Nice research Ciabella🙂 Microclimate changes do effect climate overall. Something I've noted that I haven't checked into: whenever I get a forecast for T-storms I monitor the weather radar site; I've notice an anomaly that shows up now that I didn't used to see; Right over the solar farm outside of Pendleton. There's a hole. A clear area over the farm and the system turns around it. Not every time, but significantly. The system covers an area larger than our regional weather report. Thats more than microclimate. I want to encourage people to look at the date of the paper they're citing, and who funded it. The wind turbine effect will become more pronounce as more turbines go up (greed), and over long term. Past editors of major scientific journals have come out and stated that at least 50% of the articles are propaganda and the results fraud. My daughter encountered this when she submitted her doctoral thesis. The examining board handed it back to her and told her to rewrite it, giving the program sponsors a "yes" answer or she wouldn't get her doctorate. The schools extort the students. The Industry controls them and the "science."

I've been pretty distracted with trying to prepare for the impending spraying. I finally found a mobile phlebotomist that would come here.

It 59°, mostly cloudy. Amy, it was a nice day here, too, yesterday. Love hearing about your garden and preserving.

Right on about the papers, OLM. I tried to find a juried journal for this wind turbine/microclimate stuff, but with the time I allotted to it I didn't find anything. Nature (which published peer-reviewed material and some academic papers which, I believe, were published through their respective universities was the best I could find yesterday. However, this morning I did a general search for peer-reviewed (juried) journals and came up with quite a few in all fields. I haven't delved into them.

It is disconcerting to hear about the flack your daughter got over her Doctoral thesis submission. My best friend had an experience with internal politics at the university he was at. That and he found out the head of the newly formed department shared some of his research with another university without his knowledge or consent. As a result, on the advice of his adviser he switched from that department to the reading program within the Education Department. He got his degree, but the Education people didn't know at the time quite what to do with the computerized program which he designed for reading teachers to help diagnose reading disabilities. They were used to survey type papers. I had the honor of reading over his thesis to check that it was understandable to non-computer programmers. I found a very few things that I needed some clarification, but otherwise I, a computer user but by no means a programmer, could easily understand it. After he graduated he and his advisor repackaged the program and sent it out to various publishers. One was interested in it, but in the end, nothing came of it. The one most definite thing that came out of his journey is that I wrote what is called "garden-path" sentences and was able, for the most part to correct that. Another was that most people lose focus after fifteen words or so. As you can see, I have never been able to stick to short sentences.

Not me, Rick. I just have a bum thumb this last week, so I decided to give it as much of a break from the mouse and keyboard as I can. I have mostly stayed away from my computer games.

It stayed relatively cool today, topping at 73oF. Stayed cloudy, too. Did a little housework, did a lot of relaxing on the sofa, e-book in hand and watching some TV this afternoon. Just finishing up a dish of chicken, buttered red potatoes and mixed veggies. My sister opted for watching Tennis this morning.

Yesterday, late afternoon, we got a down-pour complete with thunder and lightning. The first real thunderstorm this year in my location. All the "real" storms passed south of me on their way to Lancaster County.

I spent most of yesterday searching for an EI with an MD. My video apt for today was cancelled. I'd jumped through hoops for 3 weeks, crossed my Ts and dotted my eyes. The lady in the billings dept. Didn't bother to tell me until yesterday that because Dr didn't have a license to practice in Oregon I had to come to the office for the first apt... :tickedoff: I CAN'T leave my mountain! She claimed she'd previously called, texted and emailed. I didn't get any of those, but got text and emails reminding me of my appointments, so I think she was lying. I got a text after our phone call saying my apt would be cancelled if I didn't come in. Anyway, spent the day searching, calling, beating my head against hard surfaces when the internet crashed or moved like a frozen snail. Looks like I'll have another day of the same internet searches.  :(

Good afternoon one and all,
I have 3 specialists sending me paper work, to choose from. My attorney is still deliberating. Things are much better than yesterday and the day before, stress wise.

It rained this last weekend, a lot. The last 3 days have been very pleasant, 80°F or less. This morning I took 8 stout fence sticks on our patrol and replaced 8 weak or broken ones on the east fence. I need to do a dozen more. I took one extra long Fence stick to weave into the fence that extends over the bed that the seasonal creek runs in under the fence, on the west fence. I need to keep out the neighbors sheep and LGDs. I realized I could put in 5 more. Thats on the to do list, as well. I dug around in the storage container and unearthed a bundle of 6' metal T posts. I'll drive those tomorrow morning on the front fence where a tree stump the fence had been attached to for decades rotted. After 9:00 a.m. I started making calls again and getting calls back. I'm expecting emails. At the moment I'm de-stressing, and resting.

It is a sunny, breezy day around 76°F. Have a great one everyone!

While the sun isn't out, it is sure trying to brighten up the cloud layer and the weather app is showing 66o.

Tomorrow I should be getting a new brace for my thumb which is giving me trouble this past week. It is not as hefty as the hand/writs brace I have and use at night, but it is a similar design more specifically for thumbs and heftier than those simple compression sleeves. The viewer reviews (as opposed to the "influencer" videos) show views of people actually using them doing things like typing, etc. I am so happy I saw fit to get an electric can opener earlier this year.

Who the heck puts potatoes in chicken and rice soup? Campbell apparently does in it's Chicken and White and wild rice soup. It is not a processing error; the potatoes are listed on the label. A while back they changed the ChiliMac soup formula. I don't like it so much either so I don't buy that now.

Good morning everyone,
I missed a day again and missed reading all you posts. Lots of interesting things (to me) shared.

Amy, my husband and daughter are the beet lovers in our family. They'd be salivating if they knew. I used to can, I loved my salsa the best, followed by pumpkin pureé.

MG, SMH, potatoes are cheap filler. I'd never eat Campbell's, its full of MSG, and not that much of any real food. I cook everything from scratch, organic.

Jane, so glad you are posting here! I especially love your checking in so frequently.😀

Rick, I'm glad one of us is being responsible!😆

I did get 4 metal T posts pounded into that section yesterday and the fence stood up and clipped. I still need to replace fence sticks in it. I had to quit yesterday because I was shaking. Used up all my ATP. Today I pounded in one more T post, mended the top strand of barb wire with the fence stretcher and rewound a number of previous breaks in the fence that looked like someone had used them to get poached game out. Then I rewired all the sticks I'd had to take off to stretch the barb wire and clipped the wires to the T Post. Too tired to tighten the other strands today. I'll keep after it. Pushing laundry. Need to go over along the west fence and look for a spent bullet casing. Someone shot from there just after dark last night. Archery (poaching) season starts on the 30th. My guess is someone was trying to intimidate me into leaving so they could poach without fear of getting caught. Informed the Game Warden.

Hope you all have a lovely day.

Good morning, another cooler, rainy day and I've got laundry to do now that the basic routine is out of the way. Nothing else going on until next week, so it's mainly catch up.

Jane, so very glad to see you posting again, and glad all's well with you and Cooper.

Amy, you put me to shame. Other than a few morning routines and some reoccurring basic routines, I really don't do much.

You can tell the season's changing. I've woken in the morning with a headache almost every day this week and have gotten my humidifier back out, cleaned and back to 24/7. It's a winter necessity this far north.

Amazing! It is still August, right? Fifty-nine degrees this morning. However, the weather prognosticator says it will heat up to eighty-one. It is still very humid.

I finally opted for a new bookshelf (no assembly needed) from Amazon for the entryway rather than picking up one my sister no longer wants. Neither one of us has a good back for moving it, and I am using a brace now for my sprained thumb. If she still has it later, I may grab it. All I have to do, now, is get my box cutter out and use that instead of the scissor-like thing I've been using. I miss the bench with drawer and cubby right by the door, so I will rummage around or buy a decorative bin or two. Also, I may pick up a few S hooks for the big industrial shelf so I can hang a few small potted plants.

Good Morning Everyfriend!  It's still morning where I am so I'm okay with that!

The weather here is "what"?  When I get up in the early morning it's cool and by noon it's hot!  Oh well, I guess that's more or less normal.  No Cooper today so I took my walk alone this morning.  Frankie has the weekend off and she went to Maryland to visit her Mom.  I'm sure they're having a wonderful time togethere!

I wish you all a great day!  Make it your own in every way and don't forget to tell us how you did that!  We're very interested!  And I DON'T mean nosy!

Good morning, 53 and still rainy. Morning routines, meet and greets, plus feeding everyone and coffee's at hand, so at 9:59, I'm back at the computer. I have a brunch date at 11:00 and a neighbor's Amazon package due this afternoon, and I may finally get the laundry building up.

It's so nice to see Phyllis and Jane posting today. And Amy, there's always something to do and little time to do it. Sometimes it's nice to sit back with a cuppa and just be still for a bit before diving back in.

Good morning Phyllis, Jane, Amy, MG, Patricia and all! Glad to see you here!

Another fence repair day. I had a nice chat with my favorite game warden while down there. He was checking out some poaching activity from last night. Ron is here. He's finishing putting up the last of the ceiling insulation and plastic. Then he'll start porch grading and foundation prep. I have wood cutting to do. Its supposed to be a high of 90° today. Smoky.

MG, your new place is coming right along!😀

Thanks, OLM. It seems a never-ending project. I got the new bookshelf up. Now I am considering which books to put on it. I am currently thinking that since I have a bunch of books about book history, bookmaking, libraries, word origins, and my remaining Latin texts, they will be a better fit in the living room area since all of my non-fiction books are out there. That will free up the shelf next to my computer of office stuff, etc.

Aside from the new bookshelf, I changed out the air filter, took out trash, ran the dishwasher and put the dishes away, fed the cats(x3), did some reading and watched some TV. In other words, a relatively slow, quiet day.

Oh, and I like my new thumb brace.

😆 It sounded pretty busy to me! I had to take several rests myself. First thing when I got back to camp I retrieved my supplies from Ron's truck. I ran sprinklers, started a load of laundry, then rested and ate. Next I plugged in the old chop saw and cut a landscaping wagon full of big limbs for fire wood, rested again. It was very smoky and 88°F in the shade. Hauled the wagon full of wood to the stack, pushed laundry, more resting. Discovered I was on my last jar, and the fresh water tank was nearly empty, curses! Hauled out all the equipment, fed dogs, filled everything, put all the equipment away, walked dogs, resting again! So mostly today, I rested!😆😆😆

Good (early) Morning, Everyfriend!  Since I don't have Cooper this weekend and I don't have to be ready to go anywhere until 9:45, it was my plan to sleep in this morning.  However, I woke up at my usual time and I couldn't go back to sleep so I got up!

Right now, it's only 66 degrees where I live and heading for a high of only 79 degrees!  Has Fall arrived or is this going to change?  I guess we shall see!

I love reading what all of you are up to and I envy your ambition!  I wish I still had that!  I do wonder where Denver is!  I hope she's OK!

I guess I better get on the ball and get something done before I hit the shower!  I hope you all have a great day!  Do what suits your fancy but don't forget to share it with us!  We need to know what your up to in your area!

Good morning, another inch or two of rain today and only 55 with a big high of 61 today. I do believe we've cornered the market on rain, rain and more rain. However, this is the old August, the cooling down before the snow comes.

Ravens are back in town from the mountains, animals are denning early, summer birds have flown, and you can see color in some of the trees. The other day I washed out the humidifier and started that running again. I can always tell when it dries out preparatory to winter as my throat gets scratchy, and I always have low level headaches.

I spent yesterday doing laundry, collecting packages for a neighbor, and having a late brunch with that neighbor. Other than that, I spent most of it on the laptop. I'm also back to my winter sleep schedule, early to bed, early to rise and a brief two or three am awakening.

Today's morning routines and meet and greets are done, although I've yet to start my coffee.

Jane, I'm another glad to see you posting again, you've been missed! I'm also glad to see Phyllis checking in more. Even with nothing earthshaking going on in our lives, it's still glad to see how everyone's doing. Jenny is probably busy with moving, and I've written but haven't heard back from MaryPage. That last is concerning.

There are few of us left, both on and off the web, in these turbulent times.

Amy, good morning, I hope you and the fish, have a great day!

Good Morning Everyfriend!

AMY, what do you do with all these quilts you make!  Are you giving them away, keeping them for yourself or selling them?  If you're keeping them for yourself, your house must be covered with quilts!  You sure do make a lot of them!

I'm doing some laundry today and right after Frankie picks up Cooper, Cathy will be picking me up to go for a haircut and to pick up some "stuff" at WM.  I have a short list and while I sit in the chair for my hair trim, Cathy will start on the list!  I have to think hard before I go so I don't forget anything!

I'm glad to be be back with all of you, too!  I missed you!

Good late morning, another day of steady rain, 56 right now and a predicted high of only 65. Meet and greets, morning coffee and everyone fed has been accomplished. And so, I'm back online.

Bathroom deep clean and kitchen floor are the only items on today's agenda. I finished laundry yesterday afternoon after lunch, in-between others trying to do that also. Five floors with a washer and dryer on each, so everyone trudges up and down, hoping to find an empty set if the one on their floor is in use.

Jane, I believe most of these quilts go to donations, cancer if I remember correctly.

Here's hoping everyone elsewhere is having a drier, sunnier, day than mine. I know my sister is still having temps in the nineties.

Patricia, I believe your sun shifted way East. It is not only sunny today, but low humidity, breezy, and 78o at the moment. No rain predicted for several days.

Well, here it is 1:30pm and against all my intentions for the day, I haven't gotten much done. I think I'll go get the mail and take a walk around the block.

Good morning..

We did get some rain..about  10 minutes but some is better than none.

We are off to the city for an appointment,a bit of shopping then high tail it home.

Jane, the last two I have done are as Patricia said for cancer quilts. Now I would like to start something else...have Golden Retriever panels and would like to see what I can do with them.  Some quilts have also gone to family and friends.

Best thing about going to the city is coming home and back into comfy clothes.

Enjoy your day and stay safe.

Good morning, it's still raining and we've had some minor flooding. We have two large rivers encircling the city and feeding a third, cutting through the city. That one, is expected to crest today.

I've finished my meet and greets, morning routines and coffee is almost finished. I did laundry on Sunday, and bathroom deep clean and kitchen yesterday. Today, is the whole apartment vacuuming. Does anyone else still do Spring and Fall deep cleans? I grew up doing it and have never been able to shake the habit.

Other than that, I don't have anything pressing until the third.

Jane, enjoy your day with Cooper. I used to see two or three of the dogs on my floor, or at least hear them going to and from their walks, but not lately. I hope they and their owners are doing okay.

Amy, I used to knit, crochet and hook rugs, but since my first computer, all that went by the wayside. I'm unable to do the long walks I used to do, either, and miss spending my summers at the sanctuary with all the birds and other wildlife. I used to go to Alaskaland, every fall to see the coliseum taken over by the quilt festival, but haven't even been to Alaskaland or the sanctuary in years. I've become very isolated.

Good morning..

Noticed all the trees dying from lack of water on our trip to the city, they certainly have had a bad year along with the ice storm.

All went well yesterday, long day but tis over now until next week. Today we are going to fence in the last woodpile area as Jesse has already started to bring in wood only at night.

Patricia, thank you for sending rian this way.I did hear of some wells going dry but so far we are ok.

Better get ready to meet the day.

Enjoy your day and stay safe.

Good morning,
I have a consult with a civil rights lawyer next week, to get a restraining order. This will be easier to prove than toxic trespass. I still haven't found a replacement Dr., but continue the hunt. Archery/poacher season starts Saturday. Fences mended, save for 3 T-post that were put in years ago that have sunk in the mud so deep only a foot and a half remains. They've drug the fence down with them. Ron will pull them with the tractor. Its a rain day. Morning low 68°. The high is expected to be around 73°F. We can use the rain!

Its a blessing to me to read what each of you are doing.

Jane, that must have been a beautiful morning walk.😊

The quilts sound wonderful Amy!

Patricia, I'm glad you have your laundry done. The march up and down for an empty washer sounds unpleasant. Have you ever considered a Panda (mini wash machine, for small loads, like clothing?

And for everyone else, 🙂! Stay safe, have a lovely day!

Good morning, another cooler, rainy day at 51.

Morning routines and meet and greets are finished. Coffee needs to be made, but here I am.

OLM, there are two elevators on each floor, but only one washer and one dryer per floor.  I live in a five-story building for disabled, independent seniors, and no personal washers and or freezers allowed.

Amy, I shouldn't complain, August is nominally a rainy cool down month preparatory to winter. And September follows, cooler but beautiful. We'll see if that happens. My sister is still in the mid to upper 80s. I could use some of your mid 70s and sunshine.

From the state fair,

Dale Marshall of Anchorage once again claimed victory at the Alaska Midnight Sun Great Pumpkin Weigh Off, securing his 14th overall and 8th consecutive title on Monday at the Alaska State Fair.

Marshall's winning entry weighed 18,20 pounds, a massive pumpkin by any standard. However, it was still short of his personal and state record of 2,147 pounds, which he set in 2022. Last year's prizewinner weighed at 2,035 pounds.

Alaska's growing season is known for its midnight sun and black glacial soil.

Well, this was a busy day!  Cooper arrived at 6:50 a.m. and he had his breakfast and watched me make my bed and get dressed and then we headed out for our first walk!

The rest of the morning, I got things done around the house and got myself ready to meet with some of the ladies I used to work with.  We try to get together for lunch once a month and I really enjoy the meetings!  We talk a blue streak and we try to go to different places each month.

When I got home, I was tired but I took Cooper for another walk and we both enjoyed it.  When we came back we dropped everything and loafed for a while and then when Frankie picked him up, I got busy again. and now...here I am...ready to hit the hay!  And tomorrow, Cathy and I have a trip to make to get some more things done!  Wish me luck!

Good chilly morning!!

Temp is 37°  :yikes: but oh so nice compared to the fry weather we have been having.

Laundry day and it is looking good to put out on the solar dryer.  Baking to be done and a newrecipe to try out if time permits. Being a long weekend here the traffic will be horrible, so many in a hurry and no patience on the road.
Helped the neighbour load up her vehicle to go to the market today and will help her unload when she comes home. Both have health issues at the moment and shouldn't lift heavy things.

Everyone has been fed but fish and that will be soon.

Rick ,that is great news and a relief for you!

Patricia, we could actually  have a wee fire on this morning but a long sleeved pullover will help.

Enjoy your day and stay safe.

Good morning, cloudy but no rain, hopefully a good sign at 44 this morning. However, the rain will return Wednesday through Friday. Today's high will be only 56, but we'll be back into at least the sixties until the seventh, according to the weather gurus.

Morning routines, meet and greets, coffee made and Farrah's been fed with fresh water, so here I am. I need to water my plants, but that can wait until tomorrow. I water my cacti every three days, lost the smallest, but the other two are thriving. My largest, schefflera, is three feet tall now, and my spider isn't far behind.

We've planned another brunch and day of shopping for the third or fourth, nothing really nailed down as yet. It's beginning to evolve in a regular arrangement, as none of us venture out at night that much anymore.

Amy, we don't really have humidity here. In the winter, you really have to pamper your skin. With all the rain we've had, from last winter until now, I've kept extra blankets on the couch and on the bed.

Phyllis, so nice to see your post. Bubble, I agree, I had never thought about repurposing, but it makes a lot of sense. Now if they could do something similar with autos. We have electric cars, needing charges, but now they're ready to put drivers less cars into production.

"Self-driving cars, also known as autonomous vehicles, are not yet available for purchase by consumers. The combination of computer processing power and advanced automotive camera/sensor technology required to create a full self-driving vehicle, capable of operating safely in all driving locations and conditions, is still several years (at least) away.

However, if you want to experience a fully autonomous driving system, Waymo (a former Google project now spun off as its own company) operates a fleet of electric cars featuring self-driving technology. These "robotaxi" services are available in Los Angeles, Phoenix, and San Francisco, and offer a glimpse of the self-driving future we'll all eventually have access to. If you're in one of those cities consider using the Waymo app to schedule a ride."

Hello Everyfriend!  It's been a busy day!  First we worked on the heating system in order to get all the rooms warmed up.  Last night, I opened the sofa bed because my room was freezing cold.  Cathy came over this morning and we checked it all out and set it where we hoped it would warm the whole house.  I did!!!!!  Tonight I can sleep in my bed!

And that's where I'm going pretty soon because Cooper will be arriving around 5:50 a.m. and I like to get up in time to eat breakfast before he gets here.

I wish you all a peaceful night's sleep and a happy day tomorrow.  And please don't forget to share it with us.  We're curious....or are we nosy?  Whatever it is we need to know what you're up to!  Good night Everyfriend!

Our heat has been off all summer, so don't know how happy it will be when I need it, which I think might be soon. Luckily, over the years, I have acquired a couple of those oil filled electric radiators. If need be they will have to do the job for a while.

Jane, I just turned the heat on for hubby. I will let it run through its course then shut it down for the night. We may get a frost!

A day of rest here and just may get to start a new quilt!

Better get the day started.

Enjoy your day and stay safe.

Was  "The Golden Pond" film in you location?  I remember the loons from there...  I wish I could see and hear them for real!

Bubble, I love listening to the call of the loons. At night with windows open you can hear their call echoing over the lake. When they fly over the house you can hear the wind in their wings.

It's just about time  for me to hit the hay!  It's been a busy day and tomorrow starts early.  Grandson Kyle is visiting his mother (my daughter, Cathy) and he's coming over aroung 9 to get me so I can join them for a late breakfast!  I'm looking forward to seeing him!  He only lives in the Philadelphia area but I don't get to see him very often.  His wife is off with her family and he came up here.

I had Cooper today and we had two nice walks togethere.  He gets to tell me where we're going and I just follow him holding the leash in my hand!

Now I wish you all a peaceful night's sleep and a happy tomorrow.  And don't forget to come back and share it with us.  We miss you when you stay away!  Good night...Sweet dreams!
