Oldiesmann: I'm not finding anything related to recipes on the site. I'll do some digging through the Internet Archive and see if I can dig them up. It's possible that got lost in the big server crash back in 2016

Life's most precious moments are
Not all loud or uproarious. We all need that special
Quiet time in solitude, to listen to our hearts
And rest our minds.

The fly

There I was relaxing, resting my arms above my head,
When I heard this annoying buzzing noise circling the bed.
So I slowly turned, raised my head, and opened one eye,
And sure enough there it was, this most enormous fly.

The damn thing followed me down stairs, and as our lunch we ate,
He took a fancy to what I'd got and kept landing on my plate.
We both kept shooing him away, while from plate to plate he flits.
But all he did was Bzz at us, and made us feel like twits.

His Bzzzing became much louder, as if he was taunting us,
You could almost hear him laughing, as he went from Bzzz to buzz.
Then suddenly, deathly silence ! , it's gone as quiet as a ghost,
It seems our resident spider, has got that fly for his Sunday roast.

Return to Me
Dean Martin

Now I must journey back to You
See I've drifted to far
Hear You screaming
'All is forgiven
Return to Me
All is forgiven
Return to Me'

Miles and miles travelled
Preconceived ideas unraveled
How many days of pavement
Leave me facedown in gravel?

Today makes way for the ocean
A salt scrubbed baptism
Is this my Red Sea
Or is this the River Jordan?

Now I must journey back to You
See I've drifted to far
Hear You screaming
'All is forgiven
Return to Me
All is forgiven
Return to Me'

Sleeping under strange stars
On a pillow of stone
There above You stand
And promise to be with me home

Now I must journey back to You
See I've drifted to far
Hear You screaming
'All is forgiven
Return to Me
All is forgiven
Return to Me'

Gather me together
From where You've scattered
Cleanse with hyssop
And mend the tatters

Take me to the wilderness
Speak unto my heart
My mouth is an open grave
Spewing disaster

But You have promised so much more
To betrothed me to Yourself in faith

So I will pass through
The open door of hope
And upon You
Patiently wait

Amy

Good morning...
Rain today that will remove the snow that fell yesterday.
Laundry day and need to vacuum floors and what ever comes along. I have some scalloped potatoes that will be made into potato bacon soup for lunch.

Bubble, thank you for the new start. Quiet time in solitude gives us time to listen to our heart's special moments and people. The Fly is spot on!! Dean martin makes my heart beat justa little faster..love his singing.

Better get on with my day..all too soon it disappears.

Enjoy your day and stay safe.

Another that enjoyed your hard work, Bubble, thank you!  Was sitting here remembering back the April Fools Day when my daughter put sugar in the salt shaker before breakfast so all had to eat their plates full of sugared scrambled eggs. Think she was probably 8 or 10 & never did that again!

Warm up here but not hot. The redbud trees are showing a haze of color. I'm determined to get out with the battery pack today to do some watering. We are so DRY.

Amy, I'm going to buy more dirt & lettuce seeds this week, hope to eat fresh wilted salads before I leave this world!

Hope we don't have any Friends in the tornado areas, 'tis the season for them. Wishing all a Happy Day!

Happy April Oneth!

The Arkansas tornadoes got most of the publicity but there were 70 big wildfires in Oklahoma yesterday afternoon.  Gale force west winds blew dust across most of the state (News compared it to the 1930's and I could see the dust cloud across the western horizon as it approached).

Those set off wildfires that burned out of control because they spread so quickly when the heavily timbered cedar trees "exploded" in flame and sent embers along the smoke plumes that "settled" and caused "pop-up" fires which destroyed homes and other buildings..  (Do I get a prize for the "longest sentence?  ;D )
Traffic along I-35 between OKC and Guthrie, plus the turnpike to Tulsa, was stopped and rerouted. This was during commute time and caused quite a problem.

I could smell the dust but the two big fires in the metro area were far enough north and south of me that the smoke from them (which was blowing east/northeast) didn't affect my area.

Today is sunny, calm and chilly.

Wishing Everyfriend Everywhere an Enjoyable Day.

Wow, Callie, what a day Oklahoma had!

Amy, we have plus 13 and no sign of any snow, wind, or rain, they keep pushing the storm date forward, and it's all clear skies. Tomorrow we're due back in the thirties.

Amy

Patricia, this weather now is so nice after the winter we have had. Just made a trade with the neighbour..took a loaf of fresh bread and came back with a bottle of maple syrup...good trade I think.

Amy, the first and third Saturdays of the month are senior food drops for those on aid. This is separate from Meals on wheels; I may have that name wrong, and the one with a weekly drop of up to six pounds of fresh produce a day, up to 30 pounds a week, provided to people of any age who are medically referred to the program.

Many singles cannot eat everything they're given, such as bimonthly 5-6 bags of dried beans, canned meat, or a federally processed brick of cheese that looks like an imitation Velveta. So, on those Saturdays, people gather by the donation tables in the security offices to shop the donations. These shoppers are mainly single men. I have not seen any of the referred produce land on those tables.

I barter with friends mainly for services for food such as game or fish. One of my favorites is a gallon-size jar of local honey or local chicken eggs. Sadly, this will end as the last holdouts plan to sell out and move into town this summer.

You can also get monthly meat and produce from local farms by working on the farm, paying, or some other exchange.

Good morning..

Starting out at 12° this morning with a high of 36°.  We ended up with a windy day that turned into a wicked wind in the night, I really thought we would lose our power.

A day of rest today..will just take the day as it comes.

Patricia, enjoyed your url, lots of selections for one to chose from . That is a good system you have with your bartering friends.

Shirley, my trugs are still covered in snow :( I do have all my seeds at the ready to plant, just need warm soil for their bed.

Callie ,hope the wild fires are now put out or at least contained.

Better get ready to meet the day.

Enjoy your day and stay safe..

Good morning; we had one inch of snow overnight but no wind or rain. Today's forecast is for more of the same. "Snow this morning will give way to lingering snow showers this afternoon. High around 30F. Winds WSW at 10 to 15 mph. Chance of snow is 90%. Snowfall around one inch." The entire world is experiencing horrible weather as winter isn't going quietly.

Amy, this portion of the valley is prime farmland with many rivers and mountains. The four hundred miles over the mountains and through the lowlands between the Southeast and us are primarily small towns and multiple farms.

Shirley

Was a windy & warm day in Kansas........BOY! Was it windy!  Managed to get out to the front of the house to move a little sprinkler to soak some of the flowers. Left the hoses connected since we aren't supposed to freeze hard this next week. One night at 30 degrees so will see if the gardeners around think I need to disconnect. Time to have #1 son turn the well/sprinkler system back on, he insists no danger of the heads freezing in this sandy soil. The yard was not MY department when Cas was alive & he never cooked/washed a dish or took care of kids. We liked it that way. At least my yard looks as good as all but one other.  :-[

My daughter heads back to St.Louis tomorrow & we did get a lot accomplished while she was here. She does the grocery shopping for me but my daughter-in-law will get anything I need, they all think I should not be driving.  ::)

Wishing all sweet dreams, God Bless. Tisie/Shirley

Amy

Good morning..

Starting out at 28° and it may rain later in the afternoon. We are off to the city ,Kyle's  bandsaw blade has finally arrived at the store. We will do a quick shop at Costco and then off to another store he want to go to.

I finally finished all the blocks 105 , each block has 9 pieces, making it 945
2 1/2 inch pieces. now to cut the remaining 80, 6 1/2 inch blocks. All in good time.

Patricia, sounds like beautiful country in the valley, I could handle that!

Jane, one more sleep.

Better get my city duds on..nice part of going to the city is coming home and out of my city duds.

Enjoy your day and stay safe.

Good morning. We had our inch of snow, and it's dropped to zero for a low. I've picked up a runny nose but no other symptoms the last couple of days, and today is my bills and groceries day. I'm ready for some spring weather; before 2016, we'd always had snow melted and gone by Easter. Now it's more often to have lingering snow still.

JaneS

I'M HOME!  All is more or less normal and I have all my stuff to put away and some supper to make and my bed to try out.  I'll be back to chat!  I hope Everyfriend is having a great day and all's well with all of you!

Home and everything put away in cupboards and fridge/freezer. Met one doe with two of her fawns from last year, thankfully they didn't play chicken on the highway.

Jane, glad you are home, now to catch up on hugging da Cooper

Good evening. It's seven pm here, and I just returned home and put away my groceries. Amy, we're in the thirties for highs this week but due for cooler weather on Thursday. There's lots of ice out there, and I had to be careful walking. I slipped and fell on a snowy path once, but a nice man helped me. I was gone from 10 am to 6:30 pm but got most of what I needed, lunch out and the bills paid.

Jane,  you might want to skip this part. I rarely go to Walmart as it's out of my way, but I decided to see if they had a few items. Never again, there was no accountability, no service, and the service I had was grouchy. I was looking for underclothes, and the racks were filled with whatever size was handy and extended over my head more than two feet. Of course, no one was around, and the one clerk I found told me she didn't work in that department!

There were 15 self-service lanes and three other checkouts, of which only one was manned. The clerk rang up my purchase and then went on to the next customer! I bagged my groceries and will never return to that store. I don't know if this is regular practice, but I'm sure they're losing customers!

I went across the street and finished at Kroger's Fred Meyers. They were fully staffed and knowledgeable and insisted on accompanying me to the proper areas instead of directing me as I suggested. I made sure to use my pleases and thank yous and made a point of going to the closest manager after checkout and telling him that I was so pleased with the service I received, especially from the younger clerks.

In 2013 I retired from 49 years in the retail and hospitality field, ranging from clerk, department manager, cash office supervisor, and hotel manager. In three separate places, I worked twice at different times. My last position was in a tourist-driven wood mill and specialty products. So, I have some experience in sales.

Good morning..

Milder today 27° with the temp racing to 38°. A trip to town for more lumber and then home to clean.

Saw our first Sandhill crane fly by, long legs out back, looking for open water.Spring is slowly seeping in with wild life.

Jane, nice to "see" you home. Bet your own bed felt good!

Patricia, some help is no help at all. I do go to the management to say what great service an employee has given me and likewise if they need to be told about a not so  great service. Anywhere you go now it is pack your own bags.

My get up and go must have forgot to get up and go from my bed. Better wake it up and get  moving.

Enjoy your day and stay safe.

Gooe Morning Everyfriend!  Cooper has arrived, had his breakfast and is now waiting for his walk!

PATRICIA,  that store is definitely NOT living up to its promises!  And it's NOT serving as it should.  It needs to have a letter written to the General Management!  Not to the manager of that store...to the GENERAL MANAGEMENT.  I'm betting someone would be sent to observe and they'd be in trouble!  As a former employee, I apologize for them!

And now Cooper is beginning to remind me by voice that it's time for his walk!  It's 44º and sunny already!  Supposed to be in the 60s today!  Have a good day...better than yesterday but not as good as tomorrow!

I'm sorry to jump in with Patricia, Jane, but that has always been my experience with both the Walmart Superstore and the Walmart Market.(Two separate stores in my town.) Absent, or indifferent, help....even on one occasion, rude.  That is why I don't go to those stores now.  Nearly all of my grocery and personal shopping is done on-line with familiar and trusted dealers.  And, add to that, I don't have the physical ability to walk through those over-sized stores.

Sunny day here and supposed to warm up to 80 deg.  The flowers and ornamental trees are beautiful this year and, even better, the strawberry crop is here 2 weeks early and very abundant.  Yay!

Good late morning from a chill Interior at only 22 degrees this morning. I'm getting a late start today; I haven't even made coffee yet. Spring has stayed hidden this year, with snow expected today and temperatures to drop on Thursday. The streets and parking lots have thick corrugated ice, even with the city and stores' management salting them.

Amy, I carry my cloth bags; they're sturdier than plastic and more environmentally sound.

Jane, I'm also a former employee with Walmart as I worked in their fabric department the first year they opened here before moving on to Sears. I'm hesitant to say how long ago that was. :(   I appreciate the apology on behalf of the store and your idea; I'm thinking of doing that!

Phyllis, that is becoming more common here and not only with Walmart. Although not to that extent!

JaneS

PATRICIA, If you do write a letter, let me know what happens.

PHYLLIS, all the stores are supposed to be supplied with wheel chairs with baskets for those who need them.  In our store, if you stop by the greeter and tell him/her that you need a riding cart, they will go and find you one.I know this for a fact because I have a friend who does it every time she goes to the store.

Gotta go get me some supper!  Cooper went home a bit ago and I'm getting a bit hungry.  Finish this day out to your pleasure!
