I can live with doubt and uncertainty and not knowing.
I think it's much more interesting to live not knowing
than to have answers which might be wrong. I have
approximate answers and possible beliefs and different
degrees of certainty about different things, but I'm not
absolutely sure of anything and there are many things
I don't know anything about...

Retirement

I worked forty-five years for someone else
So that I could retire.
I dreamed of sleeping late
And sitting by the fire.

I dreamed of long vacations,
Enjoying stage and song.
But, let me set you straight on that concept,
It is simply wrong.

I did junk my safety glasses
And the work boots that cramped my toes.
But, the rest of it had a mind of it's own
And this is how it goes.

My wife had been thinking of retirement
And had plans of her own.
She had spent much time with the kids
But, now they are grown and gone.

We sold our cattle and horses
So we wouldn't have that chore.
I poured concrete over my alarm clock
But, I still wake up at four.

I get my eyes checked on Monday.
She gets hers checked the next day.
I go for a colon check on Wednesday
And pass my wife going the other way.

I have a dental appointment on Thursday
She goes for a test on her heart.
Friday, we go get prescriptions filled
And browse a while at Wal-Mart.

Saturdays, we just stay home
And try to get the paper work right.
We can't take any overnight trips
'Cause we can't see to drive at night.

Restroom confusion keeps us out of church on Sunday
And we really do hate that.
There's nothing wrong with the restrooms,
We just can't remember where they're at.

We don't need to plan next week,
Just make sure we can drive.
And not forget where the hospitals and clinics are.
We'll need them to survive.

So, don't build your castles too high, my friend,
While strolling through the clover.
This is a typical week in retirement
And on Monday we start all over!

Good morning everyone..

Yesterday  was a rather eventful day......some not bad other parts bad. Our eye exams went well. Then we scooted for home knowing traffic was going to be a dickens. We managed to get near home without too much fuss but when we hit our town area traffic slowed to a crawl. Going through town was worse but we needed to pick up meds for Kyle. After supper I started dill pickles  and will do zucchini pickle today, laundry and try a cheese cake in the IP. My neighbour was stopped, signal on to go in her drive way when she war rear ended..not much damage to her vehicle but damage to the car that hit her. She is ok other than her back is sore.

Bubble ,thank you for the new start page..love the graphics and pearls of wisdom.

Enjoy your day everyone..stay safe.

Looks like Bubble has been busy! Great graphics & text. Where do you come up with the sayings? As the saying goes, "they hit the nail on the head"! Thank you for all the time you spend holding us together! Wish I had just a tiny fraction of your PSP smarts!

Cool enough to have sliding door open beside me. Cats fed & wanted out, just sitting by their water bowl (pool). I am going to feed my body & head back to bed. Have a lot of cleaning up & out before the AT&T guys come to switch out my Cox phones & wi-fi in hopes of better service. My family & friends that call are so fed up with having to re-dial several times to finish a conversation. I bought a new router, new "bank" of phones & still dropped calls & wi-fi that is off & on over & over when I am doing e-mail. Here's hoping!

I'll let you know, Gloria, since you also have Cox. I dread changes but put up with this for so long, besides the fact that they never have been able to declare that I am the primary user... after over 7 years since his death & many phone calls because I can't get into the settings to fix or change anything since I am NOT primary! Not but a couple more days and for sure, this set up will be in MY name, even though I was the one that set up Cox (but at that time we females had to put in our husband's Social Security number, even when they didn't use a computer). Won't go on about that old story any more!

It is so pleasant out, the spring we missed but does feel like fall & that is scary since this is the firsr day of August and most dreaded month of the year for me. Hot, dusty and no place to hide from it. We have bugs this year, friend of mine has been fighting some kind of bites like never before, and I live on the other side of town but am getting bites like I never had before. Whatever they are, can't see them but they itch & make lumps. Hope we get a hard enough winter/freeze to kill off the bugs this year. Been here since 1988 & first year absolutely no ice along the river. Had a dusting of snow that didn't need to be shoveled off the driveway. Enough whining... Time for everyone to wake up!  Shirley

You slipped in, Amy. Sorry about your neighbor, sometimes it takes a few days for the bones to lock up after a jolt. Wonder why so much traffic all of a sudden, I've noticed it here as well. Was smiling at the idea the cars seems to be "safe distancing" yesterday when I ran errands. Had a friend many years ago that made the best pickles... she said she used "slack lime", what ever that is. They were so crisp they snapped when you took a bite. I never tried to make them but never forgot that taste & texture.

Good morning everyone, I finally feel pretty rested at last. Yesterday I kept Yve tte busy making some refrigerator pickles. I jus t supervised. My son had also given me some pickling cucumbers. Didn't want to waste them so she said she would do the work, OK. Got 3 quarts in the fridge now, will be ready to eat in 6 days. Hope they come out good. Been years since I last made them.

JANE  hope you and Mickie enjoyed being alone to do just what you felt like doing.

BUBBLE  thanks for reminding me this is August 1st.  For staying inside and away from most people this year has really gone fast so far. Beautiful graphics as usual from you. Retirement is good and now we are is solitary shut in away from most everyone so we don't  get this deadly Covis 19. Thanks for all the goodies today.

AMY  hope you got your pickles made, never heard of zucchini pickles. My daughter makes relish with them.

SHIRLEY  yes I have Cox and would like to get rid of it but the owners of these senior buildings are wired for Cox and we cannot change, they will not let anyother carriers in. We have a lot of trouble with them, too. I agree with you, we need a good old time winter with freezing cold and snow.

Have a good day and stay safe.

Good Morning Everyfriend!  It's been a totally frustrating one for me.  I held off coming in because I didn't want to risk having to talk to myself.  I've been doing enough of that right here.  My bank recently change from MC to Visa and I need to make some changes to my accounts.  One of them keeps telling me that my password is incorrect enough times that I have to change it and then it won't accept the new password.  I'm so frustrated I could scream but I don't want to scare anyone in TEXAS!

It's a bit cooler here too this morning.  I have the windows open for some fresh air.  It was down to the mid 60s overnight and it's low 70s right now and not supposed to past the mid 80s for the day.  Rain is predicted for this evening but I'll believe that when I see it!  We've had so many predictions for rain that never comes that I've become a bit of a skeptic.

BUBBLE, thank you for the nice, new, clean, beautiful place to hang out!  I love it all!  You really do take good care of us!

Now I have to bid you all adieu!  My personal shopper (daughter Cathy) is almost finished at the grocery store and I have to get ready to put stuff away when she gets here!  I wish you all a pleasant day!  Make it your own in every way!  And don't forget to share it with your friends in the nice clean new Soda Shoppe!

Happy August Oneth!

Maybe those of us with Cox should join the crowd and have a Protest.

I have two t.v's.  One has that Cox  Contour and the other has basic cable.  Thursday night - the remote for the one with Contour stopped working.  The buttons on the set and the remote that came with it will turn it on but only show one channel.  The other one will turn on either way but the screen is fuzzy and it says "no connection".
Changed batteries in both remotes - same results.  Son was here and tried various things - no luck.

Called Cox and was told the wait to talk to a tech would be "more than 5 minutes".  Since I was waiting on a call from my grocery shopper about a delivery, I couldn't wait.

Have finished Domestic Duties and am now going to gather all information, call Cox and settle into the recliner with my Tablet to play games and read e-books while I wait to be connected.
I will NOT pay for a weekend "house call" but am hoping to get an appointment ASAP after the weekend.

If you see smoke rising from this direction, you can say, "There goes Callie - blowing her top!"  :angry2:

A good Saturday HELLO to EVERYFRIEND 🦋

Remember when Our Gladys used to come in on the first day of the month and say "White Rabbit 🐇🐇 White Rabbit"?  Such a sweet lady..oh how I miss her and the many special telephone conversations we used to have 😢🦋

Seems many enjoyed a nice cooler morning.  We did as well.  It was delightful having my coffee out n the deck with my fountain flowing and helping me to enjoy it😘

THANK YOU, BUBBLE, for our nice new gathering spot with all of the nice things you shared with us today 💐 I especially enjoyed the RETIREMENT poem.  It certainly hit home with me 😘

AMY, your day yesterday seemed might6 busy.  Sorry about your friends mishap....people just follow much too closely.  I hope she will not have long lasting issues with her back.

SHIRLEY, I do hope A T & T service will prove to be better for you overall, and AT LEAST it is in your name🤪🤪 It has been a good long time since I remember biting into a pickle that actually SNAPPED...wish I had one right now!

Gloria, so happy Yvette and you got your pickles made.....sounds yummy and something nice to look forward to!

JANE, hope you got all of your groceries put away and you are enjoying your afternoon.

HELLO CALLIE.....I sure hope I do not see smoke coming from your direction....hope they can help you with your issue!

Enjoy your day, EVERRYFRIEND.

Update:  I waited it out and a very nice, friendly, lady tech worked patiently with me on both tv sets.  It was amazing to see things change on my cable box as she managed things from El Paso - way out in far west Texas!! I marvel at the minds who were able to figures out all these machines that are used today for electronics and medical tests/procedures.
Unfortunately, she was unable to fix anything and scheduled an appointment for a local tech to come on Tuesday afternoon. I don't mind waiting since I can get one channel.  However, she put me on Standby for an earlier appointment and I will move things around if I need to .
I am pleased.

Callie, I bought my little antennas from Sam's Club, 2 in a box for either $40 or $60. & after attaching the first one I ran & got one for each TV. NOW I don't have to wait for Cox for good TV.  I get the 3 local channels & a lot of others, mainly GRIT & ME... those are the no-brainers that have either Westerns or old sit-coms/game shows etc I looked on Amazon & a whole bunch of different kinds, same brand ...darn tried to copy the link but didn't like. It is the Mohu leaf brand....in case you're interested. Don't get Hallmark or the "pay for" channels but my son does all the extras for movies, etc. I never sit down long enough to watch a whole movie & sometimes watch a movie several times & see something new each time!  :-[

I went back to bed, nothing to show for my day but plan to weed whip the berm before I take my Sat.night shower. I was hoping it would stay cool enough to wear long pants to put into boots (like Amy suggested)... got hot so that ain't gonna happen! Guess I will spray all over me & get the job done & scrub it & bugs off when done. My heart is NOT in this job.

I wish you all a peaceful night's sleep and a happy, healthy tomorrow.  And may God bless us, every one!

Good morning everyone...

A beautiful morning here...gentle rain falling!! We really need this and I hope it keeps up all day.

Yesterday was busier than I thought it would be first laundry, then chopping up the ingredients for the pickle. While it was resting I made a cheese cake in the IP  and baked 2 lemon loaves. After supper I cooked and bottled the pickle. I didn't clean up my mess last night so that will be done then garbage needs to be taken away . Friends are coming to exchange items we bought for each other and then I am going to do...nothing...........nothing at all. :)

Lloyd....we are all here, Jane, Gloria,  Shirley, Angelface ,Phyllis, Callie, Joy and Jenny.

Better get a movin..

Enjoy your day everyone stay safe.

An early good morning.

I knew I had to get up early this morning, and I had set my alarm, but I woke up about 5 and after not being able to go back to sleep, decided just to get up.

I have a grocery order coming between 11 and 12, and I need to finish putting some dishes away so there will be room to set it all down.  That will be the "big" chore for today.

Amy, I hope you get to "do nothing" after you get a few things finished up this morning.  I have a lot of days like that.  I have all good intentions of doing "something" but a lot of times, that never happens.  I am sure I will have a nap at some point today.

Hope everyone will have a nice Sunday.

Good morning.  I'm here, too, though not as early as some of you.  I slept a little later than usual.  It is hot, humid, and sunny this morning.  The good news is the storm is a tropical storm rather than a hurricane....the bad news is it has turned further inland so it will come closer to where I live.  We will get a lot of rain...which we don't need...and some wind.  But, it is moving fast so it shouldn't stay around long.  It will pass by early on Tues.

No plans for today so will just take it easy.....as usual.

Take care, All.

Whoo!!!  I'm just getting in here.  It's been a busy day.  I finally made it to the Farmers Market up on the hill.  I bought some blueberries for Frankie, a cantelope, some cherries, and some green beans to can.  Or maybe just to make green beans.  My plan when I bought them was to have them cleaned and ready to can by Wednesday and then buy more at the other Farmer's market or the Amish farm stand and can them all at one time.  We shall see!

I have to make a trip to the drug store to pick up Frankie's prescriptions for her because it will be closed when she gets home from work.  And I'm waiting for a technical phone call.  I hope it comes soon so I'm not driving into the sunset on my way home from the drug store.  Things just seem to happen and usually at the wrong time.

We had some very nice rain overnight.  I think this one actually hit the ground and soaked in a bit.  It had started when I was getting ready for bed and the road was still wet when I got up!  So it was a pretty good one.

I think I'm going to take the doggies out and rest my eyes until 4 oclock and then assume that the technician isn't going to call me today!  Then I can head out and pick up Frankie's prescriptions.

I hope everyone's day is going well and you are all enjoying whatever it is that you're doing.  If you are enjoying it, keep doing it.  If you're not enjoying it QUIT!

This lovely rainy day made me sleepy so off to bed for a nap...both dogs joined me.  Only work I have done is pick and cut up rhubarb for my friend, she now has it to make jam.

Jane, I was wondering where you were..happy to read everything is ok . Hope the call comes in and you don't have to drive into the sun.

This bein g a long holiday has traffic  thick as the hair on a dogs back!! I for one can't wait till Sept.

Going to have chicken  in the IP along with mushrooms.....will let you know if the recipe is a keeper or not.

Well, I almost had to talk to myself again.  The blueberries are washed and ready for Frankie to eat them.  The cherries are clean and beginning to dwindle.  And the beans are cleaned and ready to be canned.  And the cantelope is cut off the rind, in a bowl and begging to be eaten for breakfast.  And I picked my first 'mater off the vine in the yard!  Gonna eat it for lunch tomorrow.

Now I'm ready for bed and as soon as Frankie gets here from work and we have a little time together, I'll be off to the haystack and some snoozing.  She doesn't have to get up early tomorrow so it'll be the doggies and me first thing in the morning.

AMY, you did read that I've given up on the Instant Pot, didn't you?  I gave it to Christy and she's getting into it.  So if you share any recipes, I'll pass them on to her.

I wish you all a peaceful night's sleep and a happy, healthy tomorrow.  And may God bless us, every one!

And I am also off to bed. I do think I could just curl up on the floor and sleep through the night. Back when we were kids and aunts & uncles came to visit with their kids, and lots of times we'd just stretch out & go to sleep while the grown ups talked. Sweet dreams to all and God Bless. See ya tomorrow.  Shirley

Good morning everyone..

Yesterday was a lazy day, I did get the minimum of chores done including cutting up 12 cups of rhubarb for my friend and that was it! We exchanged goodies when they came ,her daughter had picked up 2 boxes each of rolled oats at Costco. Found a nap that hadn't been used so used it!.

Due to the pouring rain we didn't go to the dump so that is on the agenda this morning  then home to see what I can avoid doing :))

Jane, we had the New York cheese cake last night  and a little slice goes a long way. Very rich along with the cherry topping. I took half over to the neighbour to enjoy (and wear)    I will send the recipes to you for Christy. You have your work cut out for you with all the canning ahead of you.

Shirley, often on a weekend we would find company that had come in from the US sleeping on the couch chairs and floor. They would tip toe in and settle down. That was back in the day when you never locked your home up....good times.

Joy , I sure did.....didn't feel guilty either doing nothing. Hope all is well your way.

Patricia, thank you for the heads up on the onions..

Gloria, where are you??

Phyllis, we had a lovely rain yesterday an they say all this week we are to get more. Grass is coming back to life again now.

Lloyd, good morning to you and Nancy...

Enjoy your day everyone..stay safe.

Good Morning Everyfriend and a special Good Morning to those who are up and attem already.  We woke up a bit late this morning so are still waiting for the boinger for breakfast.

My first tomato off the vine is sitting on my kitchen counter.  Frankie and I are going to share it for lunch.  We're just going to cut it up and put a little salt and pepper on it and savor the taste!  I can hardly wait!

I think I'll make a quick trip to my favorite Amish Roadside Stand sometime today.  I bet he has beans and I can get a head start on that job.  Maybe I can pick up a couple of potatoes for baking, too.  And he always surprises me with something I don't expect.

It's kind of nice to have my car back.  I know I'm never going to make long trips again but I like the short ones.  Our temps are only supposed to reach the low to mid 80s today and that's just fine with me!

Guess I better get this day started!  I wish you all a lovely day!  Make it your own in every way!  And don't forget to share it with all your friends in the Soda Shoppe!

Amy, I remember those days when the doors were never locked and keys left in Mom's car that stayed on the street, "in case anyone needed to use it". Dad's car was in the garage because he needed it for work and picked up the whole car load that worked for him. Times were good and people were honest.

A wonderful 65° with high in the low 80s. I would prefer low 70s but that will come later. Just when we think we can't stand the heat here comes a break that let's us know, better days ahead!

I get my new phone & internet this morning so am excited and a little uneasy, I do hate changes. Think positive, Shirley.... Tom has eaten & here's Tiger waiting for hers. Callie hasn't come in yet so better get moving. My order from Amazon is "Out for Delivery" so almost like Christmas in Kansas!  Have a great day, Every Friend!

Oh, Jane, my mouth is watering...I will go to the Farmer's Market on Sat in hopes of one stand selling real home grown tomatoes! I've had a couple bacon & tomato sandwiches lately but "on the vine" tomatoes not the same as grown in the ground ones! I did try something new to me, instead of frying strips of bacon I bought the thick sliced Wright's & cut off slivers of the whole package on the end, fries up fast & even and when sprinkled over the tomatoes you get the flavor without pulling a whole strip off with the first bite. I'm pleased with myself. For a couple years I was buying the bacon bites pre cooked that way & decided to make my own & it works!

Cloudy and, I'm thankful to say, a little cooler this morning.  We are just waiting on the storm and hoping it won't amount to much. They are predicting it to regenerate to a Cat. 1 hurricane and it is coming closer to where I live.  3 to 6 inches of rain, flooding, and high winds during the night tonight.  It will be what it will be but my fingers and toes are crossed.

Laundry day today.....life goes on.

Take care.

Good morning everyone, I know I was a no show yesterday but had early company. I was all set to sit here when my phone rang, my grandson asking if I was busy, never when he calls of course. He was comig over with his son, my now 5 year  old greatgrand.. Had to rush and get dressed. Did manage to have 1 cup of coffee. Of course it was a day I slept late and just taking my time like I do most mornings. His wife  was off for a "girls day" and he took advantage of it. H had made some zucchini bread and brought me a whole loaf of it. Yummy. He likes to cook and even bakes pies and makes the piecrust, too, even a lattice top, something I never could do. My little one was shy at first, at his home he is never shy. I did get some good hugs from him though. Before long he was his usual chatterbox.

CALLIE  I think we who can only have Cox all have problems with them at times. I know f I could I would get a different carrier.

JENNY  the only pickles I buy are Vlassic and they have a crunch, not soggy at all. Hope the ones Yvette and I made are crisp.

SHIRLEY  like you I like Grit and the Me channels, watch few others but mostly local ones.

AMY  you a day or even a few hours of doing nothing? Have to see it to believe it.

JANE  seems to me for years driving home from work was always into the sun. Of course in winter it was almost dark driving home so it was into headlights.

AMY I have 2 frozen cooked chickens in the freezer, just have to finish eating some other things first.

JANE  I hope you thought of all us tomato lovers when you took that first bite from the tomato. Still no local ones here yet.

LLOYD  sun is shining here and the sky is blue so it will be another hot day with the AC running.

AMY  I remember as a youngster waking in the morning to see some family members there sleeping so many in a bed or on the floor. Never found a locked door in those days.  These days we keep doors locked all the time even when we are home.

PHYLLIS  we can use that rain but the wind can stay out to sea.

Have a good day and stay safe.

You are right, Gloria, evem when home the doors are locked! How sad is that???  I'm on AT&T now, so fast & all but one thing taken care of, need to download their app or something & son is coming back to take care of that. I am relieved but still have to call Cox to pick up their modem or router. Thank goodness Andy was here as many unexpected problems that he helped solve. Take a deep breath, Shirley....

Now to get many things done, turn off lights all over the basement & lock gates out back (had to get to power lines beyond my fence)... eat lunch??? guess it's gonna be another "Lupper" day. 'Scuse moi.... little crazy around here but I am SO happy to end this Cox nightmare!!!!!   :nanadance:  :sealedlips:  :poke:  :headspin:

Time to hit the hay!  It's been a busy day today and tomorrow will be even busier.  I got the rest of the green beans I needed from my favorite farm stand so tomorrow is "can the beans day".   I've always done green beans in a pressure canner because they took so long to do in waterbath but I ran across a process for doing them in waterbath that only takes 30 minutes and it's supposed to be as good as doing them in pressure.  So I'm trying it tomorrow.

I hope the hurricane doesn't do any damage to any of you and the you only get the rain you need and not too much and none of the wind that usually goes with it.

I'm heading for Dreamland and I wish you all a peaceful night's sleep filled with happy dreams.  I also wish you a happy, healthy tomorrow.  And may God bless us, every one!

Good morning everyone, supposed to have some rain this morning and again this afternoon. We shall see how right the weather guessers are  this time.  Yesterday every forecast had this storm coming up the coast had us to the left of it and then next one you hear we will be to the right of it. heck it could come right over us, who knows where mother nature has a mind for it to go.

SHIRLEY  good for you getting rid of Cox. Sure wish I could. All the building in the state have Cox and cannot change.Even have to have our phones from them except for cell phones.

JANE  I onle canned green beans once and that was in the water bath for 3 hours. T o me la ter I could not eat  them, they seemed so over cooked. Good luck with that 30 minute water bath.

LLOYD  can st ill buy canning lids here without the rings. Have not  changed  that  here yet or maybe they had tem in stock and getting rid of them?

Have a good day and stay safe.

Good morning everyone...

Gentle rain falling here and it would be nice if it kept up all day. Today will take Kyle to the foot clinic then home to do some cleaning. May do a pot of pickles, will see how time goes.

Jane, I have to giggle at the pumpkins, not only are they taking over the garden but they are also saying hello to the neighbour too! Up and over the fence ,they are ramblers  Have fun canning today.:2funny:

Shirley, nice when  you have a service you can rely on..seems most just want to take your money without helping when you have a problem.

Gloria, what a fun time you had with your grands....nice of him to bring you the zucchini bread , but I do think the best
 are the hugs!

Phyllis, prayers heading your way that the hurricane peters out and all you get is a little wind and rain.

I did try the chicken and mushroom's in the IP and it did turn out yummy...I made a few changes of thing I had and didn't have and would do it again. I did thicken the gravy a bit more than what they did, personal preference. Was very tasty!

Better get ready for the day.

Enjoy your day everyone and stay safe..

Just a quick check in this morning.  Everything is set up for the bean canning and as soon as the boinger goes and Mickie is fed and I'm fed, the beans will be off and "canning".

We had rain most of the night and it's supposed to continue all day.  I wonder if the the tail end of the storm?  It's ok with me because it's gentle and soaking.  I can almost hear the grass slurping it up!

AMY, nice of you to share the pumpkins with your neighbors.  I hope they appreciate it!  Amazing how the vines took off!  I sure hope you have pumpkins to show for it!

I better get on my horse and get moving.  I think it be almost time for breakfast.  Enjoy your day, Everyfriend.  Make it your own in every way!  And don't forget to share it with your friends in the Soda Shoppe!

Bright and sunny this morning.  It is always beautiful after a hurricane.  We had a lot of rain, some strong wind, and flooding.  One tornado that I have heard of and one confirmed death.  We are ok here but a little waterlogged.  I woke up about 2 a.m. and the rain was hitting the windows hard and the trees were blowing around quite a bit but I decided I couldn't do anything about it so went back to sleep.  Some leaves and debris down in the yard but not too bad.  The saving grace is that it moved through fast.  We were lucky.  The Outer Banks got hit harder than we did but that is what usually happens.

I think it will miss you, Gloria, and go further inland ... up through New York.  I hope so.

I made Lentil Soup in the IP yesterday afternoon.  Just took a quick notion around 3 o'clock that I would like some soup.  Just dumped it all in the pot, turned it on and walked away.  It was all ready in about 30 min. and stayed on Warm until dinner time.  It was so easy and so good.  Just as good as if it had simmered all day long.  I love the Instant Pot!

Take care, All.

Just stopped in to see if we were back on and here we are!  The beans are all canned and sitting on the dining room table accepting the admiration of anyone who passes by. (so far. only me) but they're happy with that.  I'm VERY appreciative now and even more so when I eat them.

I'm so glad the storm didn't do anyone any real damage.  My grass is happy for the rain.  It rained here most of the day but not stormy!

I wish you all a peaceful night's sleep and a happy healthy tomorrow.  And may God bless us, every one!

Day is done and so am I. My tongue is hanging out. Won't go into the long list of "to dos" and almost as long a list of "didn't dos". Was surprised that Walmart was out of the rubber gaskets you put in the end of hoses and also out of bagworm killer... So off to Ace Hardware tomorrow.
*******
Guess what?  Phone rang & I didn't close down the computer (it went to sleep). I woke up too early to get up with a cat laying on my arm scratching. She was ready to start her day so I let her out. Had the screen door open to nice, cool air so came to the kitchen to see if I wanted to start my day. Fitbit wouldn't talk to be yesterday to let me know how much sleep I had the night before so came to the computer to see if I needed to catch more zzzzzzzzzzzs or get dressed. That's when I discovered I left things undone last night.

Fitbit says I got 4 hours & 56 min sleep last night. Think I will go back to bed & if I don't go right to sleep, get up & attem. Wishing all a Wonderful Wednesday! Checked weather & we head back into the upper 90s starting this week end. Yuck!!!!!!!!!!!!

Good morning everyone...

We had a rain during the night and everything is  smelling fresh this morning. I threw a cob of corn out and can hear the crows discussing who is going to eat it. Baby crow is sure making a fuss about it..I think ma and pa are holding back so the young can pick at it.Just went and peeked and two babies are there with the parents.

Into finishing off the pickles this morning after taking Kyle to the lumber store. We still can't get the boards he needs but he does need other supplies.

Shirley, I started to hum day is done, gone the sun. :) We are finding a lot of items are out of stock and one if you can find it ,grab it is Lysol wipes. We are also headed back to warmer weather, not impressed with that . Right now it is 57° and I have the doors and windows open.

Phyllis, care to share the recipe on the lentil soup. I also love my IP...makes life a lot easier and cooking in summer less hot in here!

Better scoot..

Enjoy your day everyone.. stay safe.

Good morning, Amy, and to all who follow.

Just checking in as I have not been here for a couple days.  Yesterday was a kind of lazy day.  Fortunately, our area did not get much of the hurricane.  It mostly came up the coast and Ocean City and the area around there got a lot of damage.  Some roofs blown off and big trees down.  There were a lot of tornado warnings all morning long.  We got some hard rain for just a little while, and the wind was not that bad.  I think most of it went inland and up through New York into Canada.

I am thinking about making a lemon meringue pie today.  Just hungry for something different.  Will just use lemon pudding mix...... not from scratch. But, it will be good.

I am just trying to forget about all the virus mess for a little bit. It is really starting to get to me.  And, I am afraid it will be around for a long time.

Have a good day and stay well !!!

Joy

Good Morning Everyfriend!  It's a nice cool day following the rain and I'm loving it!  The doors and windows are open and the cool air is coming in.  Last night, I slept with the windows open and it was great!

Today, I'm making a batch of fudge.  I made this fudge once before and it make a slue of it!  I had so much that I was offering it to everyone who came by.  Christy was up from Maryland and she turned it down for herself but noted that she knew where to get rid of it if I wanted her to help me out.  She works in a company tat used to be Dunbar and was a cash collection agency  It's since been bought out by Brinks.  Besides the cleaning company, she's the only woman in the office of 6 people.  Plus there are numerous drivers and warehouse people who are all men.  She took all my leftover Christmas candy and they loved it  Then she took all the extra fudge and they made short work of it.  They keep asking her when she's going to visit her Mom again because the candy boxes are empty.  So I've acquired a new job and some long distance "friends".

I better get my day going.  I have a new recipe I want to make for supper so the fudge is a morning activity.  I hope you all have a great day.  Make it your own in every way!  And don't forget to share it on the Soda Shoppe!

For Amy: The Very Best Lentil Soup

This smells wonderful while it is cooking.  The secret to this great soup is the wine vinegar.  Don't forget to add it!

6 servings

1 16 oz. package, about 2 1/2 cups, dry lentils (do not need to be soaked)
6-8 cups water
1/2 pound diced, light kielbasa
3/4 cup sliced celery
1/3 cup sliced carrots
1/4 cup chopped fresh parsley, optional
2 teaspoons salt
3/4 teaspoon  oregano leaves
1/2 to 3/4 teaspoon pepper
1 chopped medium onion
1 clove minced garlic
2 cups, or 1-16 oz. can, undrained, cut-up tomatoes
3 tablespoons red wine vinegar

For Instant Pot: Soften chopped vegs. and kielbasa in 1 T. oil in IP. Add lentils and rest of ingredients, except wine vinegar. Select Soup Button and I set for 20 min.  Do a slow release until pressure is reduced.  Open pot and add water, if needed, to adjust to desired thickness of soup.  Add wine vinegar and simmer on Saute for 15-30 minutes to blend flavors.  I serve with crusty bread and some good cheese.

My apologies to those of you who don't care to have recipes posted here.  It just makes it easier for those who do want them and if you aren't interested just skip on by, please.

I didn't know that S&F was down yesterday.  My Internet was out all day!  I spent a LOT of time reading.  Glad we are all back together again.

Foggy, humid, with thunderstorms predicted here.  The weather is back to summertime normal.

Glad the storm missed you, Joy.  Hope it missed Gloria, too.

Take care, All.

Lids are a popping on the counter on 16 pints of pickles. I am glad that the weather is a lot cooler for this type of work.

Phyllis, thank you for the recipe. I will pick up the wine vinegar next time I am in town and make this.  We love soup, anytime of the year.

Joy, happy to "see" you.

Better get my mess cleaned up.......can't blame anyone but me :(

A good Wednesday HELLO to EVERYFRIEND 🦋

I tried to get in a couple of times to post yesterday, but found the site was down.

AMY, I am imagining the sound of those lids a popping from way back when my mama would do canning.  Sad to say this, but I have never canned anything on my own.  😩. I sure hope the lumber yard has some wood for Kyle to buy today.  Finding disinfectant wipes is nearly impossible around here!

Yesterday Michele had her MRI, so we are holding good positive thoughts and saying prayers that her report will Clear🙏🙏🙏 A couple of friends had a small gathering of families to celebrate her NOT having to go to chemo today🥰🥰.

Yesterday we took a drive to pick up a free Colorado State Park Pass for the month of August that is given to veterans.  One of our large reservoirs is close to where we were so we drove in and enjoyed the views.

I need a haircut again and as usual I keep putting it off, but when I go I feel so much better!  Hope to do that today.

PHYLLIS, I have copied your recipe and hope to try it soon.  Thank you for sharing.

Joy, good to see your post.  We have been watching the coverage of the storm. Happy you did not have too much damage, but so sad for those that did.

JANE, I have not made fudge in so many years.  I can not eat it and Bob doesn't really want to, so not much need to make it.  I know you will enjoy yours and many others too, as you always share.

SHIRLEY, I hope you can take it a bit easier today!

Enjoy the rest of your day.

well I do not see much activate in S & F today I was last post at 02:54:36 pm today. hope all is well with you all. some bad luck here today, Nancy was driving the car back in the garage and the lucky dog ran in front of the car on the blind side of the car. and Nancy ran over her and killed her. we both are hurting But of course she is hurting worse. we have had her 12 years and she was at least 2 years old when she came here, she was dumped at our Mail box. she would follow Nancy to the house and then go back to Mail box for over a week until Nancy got soft hearted and fed her, she was our dog from that day on. she was a black Lab,loved the water jump in water and take a swim even in the sanitarian lagoon. well I bid you all good night and sweet dreams.

I'm running late but wanted to send Nancy a sympathy note, Lloyd. I'm sure she is sad tonight, give her an extra hug for me. Bad enough when our fur friends just die but so much worse when we feel a little responsible. Like I still feel for letting old LaurenKat out of the RV when we were camping in Colorado. It shouldn't have happened but it did. She was 18 years old and that is old for a feral cat, but I still feel bad that she was so scared when she died. Hugs to you both.

Sweet dreams to all and hope tomorrow is a beautiful day in your world!  Shirley

Good morning everyone finally back online. We haed some strong wind gusts and some rain. I think the roof sprung a link because the ceiling in front of the door has a streak in it the  was not there on Tuesday. We did not lose power but Cox went out. I was on Skype with my daughter when it went out, got it back late yesterday. No PC and no TV or phone either. I sure was a bit bored. Glad I have the Kindal, at least I had something to read. Along the coast they had a lot of trees down but it didn't get here that bad. Since I had no Cox I did not know the site was down till I checked email last night. Will be great to chat with my daughter ths afternoon.

AMY  hugs from youngsters are always the best.

JANE  hope your green beans came out good. Today is the day we open the small jelly jar of pickles we made last Friday. Hope they are good.

SHIRLEY hope you start getting more sleep. If I got as little as you do I would sleep the day away.

JOY  like you I am tired of staying in this apartment. Would love to sit down stairs with others like we used to instead of staying in here.

PHYLLIS  glad you did not get damage. My DIL has an IP and used it once and did not like it. Like you my internet went out Tuesday afternoon and did notcome back till late yesterday.

LLOYD  I woke  too early so just might grab a hap on the couch soon. So sorry about Lucky. I can imagine how Nancy feels and you, too.

Have a good day and stay safe.

Good Morning Everyfriend!

LLOYD, my heart aches for you and especially for NANCY.  What a hard thing to face.  Losing one fur friend is bad enough.  Give Nancy a hug from me!

AMY, don't know if I said it before but I've never canned potatoes.  Do you just do them plain or flavor them some way?  I guess I'll look that up.

I'm getting some kind of delivery from my Texas daughter today and she said I have to be home to receive it.  Wouldn't explain but said if I wasn't going to be home today, she make a change.  Hmmmmm?

I hope you all have a great day!  Make it your own in every way!  And don't forget to share it in the Soda Shoppe!

I haven't forgotten everyone - life is just much more  "work".

Lloyd:  Gentle hug for Nancy - it can happen to anyone.

We are obeying all the rules but there are so many out there who are do not care and there is a lot of anger.  I think of Europeans caught in WWII and how they had to obey orders from the Germans and Japanese and how strong our grandparents and parents were.....

Here, the VA hospital is still closed - Don can chat with his doctor sometimes and we did send a photo of his all over rash.  Still, nothing changed - he is in pain all the hours.  The whatever rash is a tiny bit better - his itchy feeling doesn't stop though.  Last night, he finally got 5 hours of sleep.

On the good news - grandson leaves for Slovakia soon - all about hockey.  Wish we could see a game.

The destructive racoon was caught in a trap by a pest company and taken to a rural wooded area.  We still do not know the amount of $$$ it will cost to fix the damage in the attic.  Also, the racoon looked young to me - cute little thing - so, we are concerned it is a family.  Three neighbors called me to warn me catching it was illegal - it made for a very bad day for me.  I should have brought the animal to their door - (only thought about it).  ::)

Every afternoon now is in the pattern of a storm with hail and rain.  So far, the damaging storms have drifted north from our area.  I can't imagine the stress of getting ready for a hurricane.  We have been through tornadoes - a big one in Minnesota when the children were young and I was in several earthquakes while growing up in Seattle. They are all too scary. Here, the danger could come from a field fire.

Tomorrow, my sewing machine should be ready - a little part broke off and I hope they do a good job.

Two grands visited with us this weekend - bringing chocolate candy and lunch.  We sat outdoors and it was just wonderful to talk for a few hours.

Thursday afternoon.....not much going on here this afternoon.  We had a storm come through, but as always one could almost count the drops😩. We sure could use a nice rain.

Marks job offer is finalize....so Jonah and his family will be moving back to California.  Boo hoo and darn this Covid 19 as it kept our family from ALL getting together when all four of the sons were here for nearly a couple of months😩😩😢😢. They will be going in a couple of weeks and the Boston Family will be headed back home this coming Saturday.  I am thankful for the time we did have together🦋

CAROL, excited to read that your grandson is going to Slovokia to play hockey.  Sad for you that he can not stay here and be on the AV's a team.  I have never heard that it is illegal to trap  a raccoon.  We have three HUGE ones that roam around our home every night.  So far, they have not caused any damage that we are aware of but have heard other neighbors complain and the golf course says they cause all kinds of damage to the course.  I am sorry to read that Don has been in so much pain with the itchy rash.  Hope that improves soon.

JANE, I hope by now your surprise delivery has arrived from your daughter.....can't wait to hear what it is❣️❣️

AMY, I hope you got around to canning your potatoes today.  Kind of anxious to see your answer to Jane about how and what you do.

I a: off to help hubby in the garage,

Enjoy the rest of your day.

Hello, my friends!

JENNY, my box did arrive from my daughter via Omaha Steaks.  It contained a box of steaks, one each of hamburgers, hotdogs and something I didn't recognize.  It's sounds like something to go with the meat to make a meal. And there was another box but I forget what it was and I'm too tired to go out there and check.  It'll take me forever to eat all this stuff!  And I might have to buy a little grill to cook them all.  I'm sure they'll taste better on a grill.

I finished a bunch of little odds and ends today and took two doggies for two walks each and the one that was left after my great granddog went home got another walk of her own.

For some reason, I'm beat!  Going to head off to bed because it'll be a busy weekend.  Daughter Christy is coming up for Maryland for the weekend and she keeps me moving.  She and Frankie and Cooperdog, too, will all stay here.  I love it but it cuts into my nap time.

CAROL, it sounds like the raccoon was in your house!  I can't imagine that it would be illegal to trap it and have it removed from the premises!  I'm glad you were able to do that and I hope he didn't have a family that he left behind!

JENNY, so sorry you didn't have a family visit while all your kids were in the area.  That would have been nice for everyone and of course, you'd have loved every minute of it!  Good luck to your son with his new job!  Give that little cutie a hug from me before he leaves.

Now, I'm off to Dreamland.  I wish you all a peaceful night's sleep and a happy, healthy tomorrow.  And may God bless us, every one!

Good morning everyone..

Love the cooler mornings now, don't think they will last as we are heading into warmer weather again.

Yesterday was a productive day. Once the mind was set the body followed..all the flowers have been moved  or cut down. Lilacs that were taking over that part of the garden were also cut down (we still have a lot more). Poplar trees that were sneaking  in the cedars were also cut down. Now I am not so sure the mind and or body are willing to follow today but more still needs to be done.at least my finger nails and eyelashes don't ache :)

Jane, what a wonderful gift!! That was very thoughtful of your daughter! I didn't tackle the taters  yesterday. Will let you know how it works out.

Lloyd, hope you both  feel better today.

Jenny, know how much you enjoyed your family near by.
I had heard that those with diabetes could eat these potatoes as when you can them, most of the starch comes out of them.

Carol ,hope your sewing machine was fix right .Do you have any projects ahead? What about bathing in the tub and put baking soda in it ,would that help Bob's rash? Or Shirley's remedy of  Epsom salts on a warm cloths and wrap the area?? Shirley ,is better at telling you how to use it.

Patricia, thank you for the quiz games. I find them fun and it sure makes ones mind work.

Gloria, another lovely day here that will soon get hot. I was listening to the crows call, then a loon in the distance and then a rooster chimed in :)  Seems a near y neighbour now has chickens. I love the sounds in the morning.

Better git..
Enjoy your day everyone an stay safe..

Good morning.  Another hot and humid one here with storms expected.  In other words:  Just the normal summer day.

I really should do some scratching around the house but doubt that I will.  It is just too unpleasantly sticky, even with the AC going almost continually.  or is it continuously?  whatever!

I hope everyone has a good day.

Good Morning My Friends!  I hope everyone is enjoying this day!  So far, it's been cool and we had a nice gentle rainstorm over night.  Then this morning right after Mickie and I got back from our walk, it started to thunder and the rains came again.  It's supposed to rain off and on all day.  The grass is slurping it up again.  Unfortunately, so are the weeds!

Today is just to get ready for company.  I've done a load of laundry (bed sheets) and floor mats are next.  That's all I'm washing today.  And I have a meat loaf already made with potatoes for one meal. We only need to make a veggie to go with it.

AMY, you did lots of outside stuff yesterday.  That's the kind of stuff Christy does for me when she's here.  I'm awful at knowing what needs doing outside.  When my sister and I had to help with the gardening, I was very good at doing exactly what was expected of me and no more.  She, my sister, learned the whys and wherefores of what she was doing and is still very good at it.  But she also had the good sense to marry a farmer who helped, did stuff she couldn't and taught her more stuff  I married a guy that could fix my washer, fridge, stove or any appliance in the house and if it wasn't repairable, there was a new one to take it's place.  He also did TVs.  I guess it was 6 of one and a half dozen of the other!

I hope you all have a great day!  Make it your own in every way!  And don't forget to come by the Soda Shoppe and share it with your good friends!

Jane, I married one that could do the yard and fix any appliance, car and even build a house. I'm basically lazy so was a struggle to keep up & keep him happy. I was worn out but discovered not as worn out as I am by having to take care of it all now!  Here it is another week end and I haven't had a day off all week!

Today I took the RV to Walmart to have that new tire put on, it was such a mess! When I saw what we drove down the mountain on, I asked them to check the others and have to order 2 more tomorrow! Put new on the front last year & had it aligned, but that doesn't help the back 4 tires. The mechanic said the belts in the tires start slipping & cause splits in the sides & wear the tread smooth. I've never seen a tire so completely shattered. NEVER! These are Michelin & gotta be heavy duty so cost just under $270. Double that in a couple days.  :tissue:

I plan to make one more trip to MO but also plan to get a For Sale sign to put in the window when parked in the driveway. Actually sold 3 vehicles that way since living in this house. Priced right or they wouldn't have sold. Think it is time to quit being out on the highway since I can't count on auto club to help me (even though I'm still paying for it). I have no faith in their help now that calls go to a "call center" in some foreign country.

Seems all I do is gripe when I come here. Do enjoy reading about everyone else's lives. If I start going down the list of everyone I will be here for another hour & time to get to bed!  Wishing all sweet dreams and God Bless.

Good morning everyone. Sorry I did not get here yesterday, no sleep the night before and napped most of yesterday away. Slept good last night and awake this morning. Yvette went to 2 of my favorite markets yesterday good sales at both of them. She really stocked me up and she didn't have time to put everything away so if I have the energy later I will find room put the rest a way. My fridge and freezer are full now. All I have to do now is get an appetite to eat all or it. Of course she will do most  of the cooking. #1 son came over yesterday with a container of baked beans he made. Yummy. #2 son will be here later today. He will be bringing me some blueberries from the farm and they will go into the freezer, too, for a pie or muffins during the winter months. Always good on a cold winter day when it is snowing. Hope it is cold and we get snow to enjoy this winter, not like last year.
Finished my second cup of coffee so guess I bet ter go get my breakfast ready.

Have a good day and stay safe.

Good morning everyone..

Another lovely day with cool temps. I didn't get all done that I would like yesterday and it is not going to get done today. I think I will can those potatoes and see how that goes. My friend just phoned an we talked about canning and said it will be fine....just read the directions and if it doesn't go well you will have mashed potatoes to eat all week....thoughtful of her.. :2funny:

Lloyd, we may be the over the hill gang but we are a dog gone good gang.

Gloria, wow you are all set for the fall/winter. Better stalk up while you can get the items. We finally found the fence boards for Kyle to make the trugs and while I was cutting down trees he was trugging.

Shirley, I married a man that could build anything out of wood, do plumbing and electrical work. I have to be careful in what I say because if I said I would like this or that built it is done!!

Phyllis, I dislike humidity with a passion.......zaps the energy right out of one.

Better scoot....neighbour is coming over with his trailer to take all the briush to the dump for us. Got caught in my night wear by our other neighbour last night!  Don't wish to be caught again.

Enjoy your day everyone, stay safe.

Good Morning my Friends!  Mickie and I are up and waiting for the boinger for breakfast.  Christy is still sleeping and I'm trying not to wake her.  She has too many mornings when she has to get up early.

After breakfast, I'm going to take a shower and make a quick run to the other Farmer's market to see if there are still any beans left.  If I get some there, I won't be going to the one on Sunday but if they don't have any, I'm heading out on Sunday.  The ones I canned this week will make veggie soup in the fall and ham and beans whenever.  I still would like to have some pints to just eat when the mood strikes.

SHIRLEY, we had a guy that worked at the store who could build anything you wanted built and if he needed help, he brought his brother along.  That's how we got our house so early on in our marriage.  And that's how we managed to put an addition on it when the kids began to enter their teens.  And repairs were easy.  But Al used to say of my husband, "Phil can find out what wrong with a TV in seconds and fix it in minutes but put a hammer in his hand and he doesn't know which end to use."  He told someone that if one of us had to help him he'd rather it would be me than Phil.

I guess I better get moving.  It's almost time for the boinger.  I wish you all a good day!  Make it your own in every way!  And don't forget to stop by and share it with your friends in the Soda Shoppe!

I am so tired tonight my brain has already gone to sleep. BUT, still have quite a few things to do before shutting my eyes. Tried to nap today but phone kept ringing. Need to do laundry but after the "brown out" last week, I've been trying to use those extra "watts" later in the evening. I'm using more than my share with keeping that pool pump running day & night, never did that before.

Gloria, sure wish I could share my appetite with you. I spend half my time thinking of what to eat next (and the other half eating it). Between feeding the cats & me, not a lot gets done around here. Had some bananas that needed to be used so mixed up some vanilla pudding to put them in. Kept forgetting to get the graham cracker pie crust so will eat without it! Put some in bowls with lids to take to the kids when we go to church in the morning. We've been having breakfast at the park, I go thru McDonald's while they go save a picnic table. The park is right there on the way home for both of us. I haven't had coffee for several months now & sure miss it. Tried just once since I was so sick & figured it must be gall bladder & Dr agreed with me... early virus season so Dr's office already trying to keep people away. Not worth the tantrum my tummy threw to drink coffee anymore.

I need to water but the wind was blowing so hard all day there's no used putting the water in the air & watch it blow onto the street or neighbor's yard. The "katydids" (what we used to call them) cicadas ... are singing this week, sounds more like late August.

Oh, got to tell you what my daughter said, can't get it off my mind. She & her daughter took the kids (3 & 5) to the park where some youngsters were playing. Naturally the kids couldn't get together but little Ellie called to them with tears in her eyes, "I'm here, I'm over here"..... and Mom & Grammy had tears in their eyes as well. Since they just moved in the kids have not met any other kids so are starved for friends. At 3 they do not understand. The 5 year old was actually afraid of "the virus" to the point he was afraid to go outside. They worked through that.

Better get moving, want to wash one load of clothes & will shower while it is drying. Know better than shower when washer is running & both want hot water at the same time. Wonder if this house does that, long ago and can't even remember how long ago, if washer was running & filling with hot the shower would feel like ice or hail. Burrrr. I doubt if I've tried that in 50 years. hahaha... we are getting old, huh?

Sweet dreams & God Bless. Wishing all a Super Sunday. Love ya all.... Shirley

Washers here do NOT use hot water but take cold water and heat it to the desired temperature. So the shower  works normally.

Good morning everyone..
Gentle rain falling......saves me from watering the garden.  A day of rest here and I am going to use every minute of it. Yard looks nice now with all the limbs and brush taken away.

Janie, you would have had some good giggles with me yesterday! The house till stands although I wasn't sure it would. I had watched utube videos and I was waiting for the hula to start...........no hula....nothing....then it started .........a jitterbug!! Turned it down and then came the swaying of the hula!! Managed to get 11 pints of potatoes canned and will  do it again! Lot of work but but fun.........especially when I don't pop the lid to the ceiling.

Shirley, now there are temperature controlled faucets.......don't think you can buy the other ones now. When in shower and someone flushes  there is no difference in the temp. Saves one from being scalded or chilled.

Better move...

Enjoy your day everyone...stay safe.

Good Morning Friends!  First of all, I learned something about faucets and washers this morning!  So today is a good day!

Sorry I didn't get in to say "good night" last night.  We were going full tilt all day yesterday and I'm pretty sure today will be the same at least until Christy leaves for home late afternoon or early evening.  I'll be back when I can.

Mickie and I walked to the corner this morning and when we turned to come home, the fog was so dense I almost couldn't see my house and there are only two houses between mine and the corner.  Is it Fall already?

Gotta go.  Christy is coming back from walking Cooper and it's almost breakfast time.  I think maybe eggs this morning.  She brought a dozen from her free-range chickens when she came and they always taste better than regular ones.

I wish you all a lovely day!  Make it your own in every way!  And don' forget to come bay the Soda Shoppe and share it!

Good morning everyone. Aother overcast morning but afternoons have been hot and sunny. Oh well we can do nothing about Mother Nature can we?

SHIRLEY  you make me glad I no longer  own a car. I know you need bigger tires for the RV than a car but last time I got  4 new tires they were no where near  the $270.- for one.

LLOYD  even as a teen I did not like summer and the heat and humidity.

AMY  I could eat mashed potatoes for every meal, love them. My younger  son has a feel for  working with wood.

JANE  your daughter is lucky you try to be quiet so as not to wake her. I try be ing quiet in here  so as not to bother the lady under me or the one next to me. A lady that lived down stairs once introduced me to her daughter as the one upstair s who roller  skated all day. With wood floor and the rollator it does make noise but I have to use it.

Still have some groceries to put away from Friday.  Better get them put away today or  Yve tte will wonder  what I did all week end.

Have a good day and stay safe.

good Morning everyone.I just got up and checked in, you all beat me here today.
we are already at 78º and sunny, going it says 92º for today. so I will be a couch jockey today. I do not reamber canning patoes, but do rember canning beef. mom would boil patoes and open a couple quarts of beef and peal some carets and make a good stew, and make a thickening with flower and put in them some salt and pepper. now that is finger licking good. Have a good day.

Well, we had a little excitement already this morning.  I was sitting here at the computer at 8:10 when things began to move and the house began to creak.  Earthquake!  It was a 5.2 at the epicenter but it happened over near the Blue Ridge so it wasn't very strong here but according to the Neighborhood Network everyone nearby felt it, too.  Apparently, there was also one at 2 a.m. but I wasn't aware of it.  It wasn't quite as strong so didn't wake me up. What else is going to happen, I wonder?  Good old North Carolina...we have it all.  Hurricanes, tornadoes, monsoons, floods, snowstorms (occasionally), ice storms, heat alerts, earthquakes.

Other than that, it is supposed to be the same sort of summer day.  Hot, humid, afternoon thunderstorms.  I yearn for the Fall.

I'm trying a new recipe for the Instant Pot this afternoon.  Country Sausage Boil.  I'm not putting shrimp in it so I can't call it Low Country Boil.  Everything else will be the same, though, with sausage, little potatoes, green beans, corn on the cob, with Old Bay seasoning all done in the IP.  We'll see how it comes out.  I figure if we're going to be as hot and uncomfortable as it is in South Carolina we may as well eat like we are there, too.  :)

MAKE it a good day.

I'm heading for bed soon.  It's been another busy day.  while Frankie and Christy and I were having lunch, Frankie's half sister called her and wanted a visit with her so she invited her to come over to my house so we could all visit.  It's been years since I've seen her and she's all grown up and pretty much on her own now.  It was a nice visit.

The temps have been a little lower since the storm a couple days ago and that's a break we needed.

Tomorrow I have more beans to can.  They are all cleaned and ready in the fridge so it shouldn't take long to get them done.  These will be in pint jars so they can be opened for a meal.  String beans are one thing I've always preferred canned over frozen.

PHYLLIS, good you just got a little shake and not a big one!  I bet that was scary!

LLOYD, nice to have someone else do the cooking1  Sounds like a pretty good meal.

I wish you all a peaceful night's sleep and a happy, healthy tomorrow.  And may God bless us, every one!

Jenny:  So sorry your plan to be with all four boys did not work out this time.  Wish it will happen once again.  I have 3 sons and one petite daughter.  Guess who runs the show.

Amy:  It was over $100 and they replaced some pieces that I had not heard of a recall.  So heavy to carry and I sew downstairs in the walkout part of the basement so there is a lot of light.  I can keep an iron and board plus a big table for cutting there and a rocking chair & more light.  Plus it has a walk-in closet for stuff.  This is the most space I have ever had anywhere.  LOL on being caught in jammies.  It happened to me once too.

Jane - this racoon was in the attic over the garage and I need to find someone to crawl up there & fix the hole at the top of the roof area.  3 neighbors spent a lot of time chewing me out for having the racoon captured.  I mean, they pounded me with questions - why not leave the poor racoon alone.

Of course, they have no damage.  That was an upsetting day to say the least.

Phyllis:  hot and humid - we lived in Texas for awhile - it was so hard to get used to air conditioning and there are tons of people who live without the air.

Shirley:  I quite coffee about half a year ago and really miss it - even decaf was affecting me.  Hot water isn't the same.

Another splendid evening sitting on the deck.  #2 son drove over in his old black jeep - he has worked so hard on redoing everything on it. It looks new.  Well, time to wrap this up.  I don't even want to watch the local Denver news - what a sorry bunch of people.

I came by while ago to say good night & guess I forgot to post it.......duh....

The heat was unbearable today, humid and everyone I talked to seemed to feel the same. Had a birthday dinner at Andy's house for their son & son-in-law. Andy did the grilling, steak, chicken, variety of veggies & Pam made home made cheese cake with fresh strawberries. The whole bunch trying to eat healthy & lose weight & come up with good food.

Phyllis, thought about you with the news of the quake. I have a niece & family lives in the Raleigh, NC & good friend in Anderson, SC ... but sounds like no major damage so far?  My daughter is helping her daughter get settled in their new place in Fairfax, VA, but she didn't mention feeling it, maybe just forgot, we didn't talk long.

Hey, Carol, you slipped in. Kind of a let down when neighbors or friends don't seem to understand why we have to do something, isn't it? I do understand & think it was nice of you to relocate it instead of just putting poison out like some would have done. By the way, have you ever tried the coffee flavored Postum?  Not bad, not coffee but doesn't bother my tummy. I wonder if it would be better if I brewed a pot full to nip at like I did with coffee....

Sweet dreams & God Bless.  Shirley

Good Morning Everyfriend!  It's nice and cool out there this morning, only in the low 60s overnight and not supposed to go any higher than 82 today.  My kind of summer day.

Mickie's leg seems to have healed.  She's taken to getting herself off the bed in the mornings and sometimes walks without any sign of a limp.  Thank goodness for that!

I'm off to feed Mickie, have my breakfast and then can the beans.  AMY has inspired me and I'm thinking of doing some potatoes.  It sure would be handy jut to grab a jar of potatoes than to peel and cook when it's time for a meal.  I'll let you all know how that works out.

It's just about time for the boinger so I'll be off to get my day started.  I wish you all a lovely day!  Make it your own in every way!  And don't forget to share it with your friends in the Soda Shoppe!

Amy, what did you do to me!!!!

"check  out Jordan Fabrics ... and I did.

I fell in love with 2 batiks sold by the yard, and that would make lovely summer dresses for me. Cotton is ideal, and the colors are so pretty.

Did you see them?
Twilight Bay Mulberry Floral Silhouette, and also Shave Ice Fractured Florals.  Two yards would be perfect for a sleeveless dress.

But I had decided not to sew clothes again?...

I think that if I was your neighbor the temptation would be too strong  lol

A good Monday HELLO to EVERYFRIEND 🦋

We had a nice weekend.  Got to spend some time with our Jonah Boy Saturday afternoon.  We went to #3 sons temporary home where they are staying while they wait to get set up n a new job location.  Jonah was in his own environment so he seemed so much more attentive to us.  When he is here at our house he interfaces with us, but still seems a bit reserved at times.  He played and talked up a storm and we had just a delightful time with he and his parents.  We had dinner together on the beautiful big deck and it could not have been anymore perfect.  We sure enjoyed it.

It was a bit of a stressful weekend as well as our Boston Family was driving straight through from Vail CO to their home in Boston.  They arrived home safely at midnight EDT so I slept so much better last night after we heard from them😍

JANE, so happy to read that Mickie's leg seems to have healed.  Once again, you must be totally exhausted after your busy weekend with the fam8ly staying with you.  Try to rest a little....those beans and potatoes can wait another day!  What a nice surprise.....Omaha Steaks.  I hope you enjoy them.

AMY, you really managed to get Bubbles attention with the nice fabric shope clickable.  BUBBLE the fabrics you mention sure are nice and yes, they would make a really nice summer dress.

Busy, busy, AMY.....you sure do not let any grass grow under your feet, do you? 😘😘. I searched the web over to see if I could find one of the metal trugs like I sent you the picture of.....no luck.  Boo hoo.....foiled again.  I really did like the looks of it.

CAROL, shame on your neighbors that made you feel bad for trapping the raccoon in your attic.  You did the only kind thing you could have done.  I hope another raccoon climbs into their attic next and let's see how they like it and what they would do?

SHIRLEY, those tires sure are pricy on that monster👺. We saw a Rialto the other day and we sure did think of yours!

It is a bit cooler here today......not to be confused with thinking it is cool....just cooler!

PHYLLIS, I thought about you when I heard about the earthquake near you.  Sure glad you did not have any damage.

Washer and dishwasher are both singing to me at the same time telling me they are done and need my attention.

Enjoy the rest of your day.

Jenny

Hello Everyfriend!  Today was definitely NOT a da of rest!  I did two canners of string beans and I now have 13 pints waiting to provide meals when the "snow flies".  Right now they are sitting on the kitchen counter reflecting in the admiration of the lady responsible for their existence.

Mickie and I had one long walk and three short once today.  She is definitely feeling better!

I also managed to cook some chicken in the crock pot for making dog food and a good chicken, sweet potato and green bean supper for me for tonight and an extra for whenever.

AMY, do you have enough tomatoes ripe to make salsa now?  Mine are just beginning to ripen.  I've had a total of 5 (ate 3 plus 3 Christy brought from further south and two are sitting out there staring at me).  Definitely not enough for a batch of salsa.

Tomorrow will be chop the chicken, give Mickie a bath, put away the beans, and take a package to the post office to mail.  Might make a stop at the Amish farmstand for some corn.  They probably have the best.  I have the system of "buy 12 (or 24 whatever I feel like shuching), eat two, freeze the rest.  I do this several times during the season.  I don't get tired;  I eat my fill; and I fill my freezer.

Guess I'll go take Mickie out one more time and head for Dreamland!  I hope I don't get any more scam callers in the middle of the night like I did last night.  I had 3 calls between 1:30 a.m. and 3 a.m.  And you have to get up and look to see who is calling because it could be family members.

Anyway, I wish you all a peaceful night's sleep and a happy, healthy tomorrow.  And may God bless us, every one!

Good morning everyone..
Beautiful morning here and I hope we don't get as hot as yesterday!
Today I have to finish up the mustard pickles ,then goodness knows what else will get done.

Jane, no our tomatoes are not coming fast enough for canning. I was told of a different way to make salsa and I wanted to try it out. Works perfect!! Just add vinegar, canned tomatoes (can use fresh if you have them) and a bit of this mix. There was a wee dab left over and will taste it later and let you know if it is worth making again.

Lloyd, looks as though you have your work cut out for you today...be safe please..

Jenny, I have a feeling that it will be an early winter and need to get things done up and put away for winter. Kyle really likes the mustard pickles ,beets and dill pickles. Better feed my trug man. :smitten:

Gloria, hope all is well there..

Better put an egg in my boot and beat it.......slept in again.

Enjoy your day everyone...stay safe..

Supposed to be a bit cooler today and I'm not minding that at all.  But, we will have the usual afternoon clouds and thunderstorms (maybe).  I have an appointment with the cardiologist this afternoon and I'm really not looking forward to it.  It has be rescheduled 3 times so I guess we will finally get it over with today.

Hope you are careful when you are out working on that ditch, Lloyd.  And, I am hoping that Shirley is OK.
The storms through the Mid-West yesterday were fierce.  What a year this is for all kinds of disasters.

Take care, Everyone.

We also made a Fresh French blueberry pie. I got that recipe  years ago from a Yankee magazine.  Use a baked shell and 2 cups of fresh berries are cooked, cooled a bit and the rest of the raw berriws added mand mixed in with the cooked ones. Chilled till firm and served with a bit of whipped cream. So good.

Had my coffee and past time for breakfast and get ready for  my favorite CNA to get here  at noon.

Good Morning.

I have missed a couple days.  But, everything is going along ok.  Just the same old-same old.

My grandson and his girlfriend and two of my great-grand daughters visited on Sunday.  We sat outside of my place and he had stopped at McDonalds, so we all had supper together.  That was the first time I had seen them since back in February.  The girls are getting so big.  The oldest one is 8 and the younger one is 5.  They are supposed to start back to school the 19th of this month, and they will be going to regular school. They got to a Montessori school and I think they have much smaller classes, so I guess they will be able to be separated ok.  I am still not so sure it is a good idea to start in school classes. But, I think it is being left up to each individual school districts as to what they do.  I am not sure what I would do if I had little ones right now.

Jane, I am so hungry for some good string beans.  However, I like to cook them with a smoked neck, and I don't even know if stores carry them anymore.  And, I  haven't even been going to the store anymore, since I get my groceries delivered now.  I guess I could call the store and ask.  My mother always used smoked neck and I think they give the beans such a good flavor.  I know sometimes they can be a little too fatty, but I still like them.

I am going to see if my son can take me to a local farmers market this week end. I am hungry for a nice cantaloupe, too. The last two I have bought got rotten before they got ripe.  I really miss being able to just pick up and go myself.  Awful when you have to be dependent on other people, but I am grateful that most of the time, my family are great about getting me where I need to go.  My two DIL's take turns taking me to the doctor visits,  My two sons work so much, I have to plan ahead for their visits.

Sounds like everyone is doing as well as they can.  I am really getting cabin fever right about now. Just so hard knowing there is only certain things you can do.

Hope everyone is keeping well and will have a good day.

Joy

Good Morning,

My "Get Up And Go"....didn't want to this morning!  Maybe that's because I "exerted" myself doing errands and Domestic Duties yesterday.
("Exerted" being a relative term because I'm certainly at the absolutely lowest end of that scale compared to Amy, Janie, Shirley and all others who do more in one day than I ever did in about a week.  :smitten: )

Nothing else on the agenda today.  I plan on getting more pages laid out for the photo album #2 son requested for their 20th anniversary.  May have already mentioned ("intellectual interlude" here  :D) that he didn't get pix and supplies to me in time for the actual date.  So we're aiming for dil's birthday in September.

He and I have decided to have a "dinner date" every two weeks on the evening she gets her nails done.  We're taking turns providing dinner.  This week, it's his turn and I'm rather hoping he brings leftovers from a cookout they recently had for friends.

Hope Everyfriend finds something to Enjoy about today.

Hello my friends!  I've gone back to making lists for what needs to be done daily.  I make them up before I go to bed and then I'm ready in the morning.  The pages usually turn out to be pretty long and I add things in pen when I think of them.  I'm happy if I get half of the list finished.  And some of the items I know I won't get done until the Farmers Market is open or my dr. appt is due.

When I finish here, I'm going over and edit my list for tomorrow.  I don't take it off the computer; just make changes and print it for the next day.  It's not that I'm so organized.  In fact, it's just the opposite.  If I don't make a list, nothing gets done.

I started collecting tomatoes to can.  I have one quart in the freezer and when I watered the plants tonight, I noticed at least 5 to be picked in the morning.

I'm really tired again tonight and I'm going to head for bed a bit early.  I sure hope I sleep better than I did the past few nights.  I sleep soundly and when I wake up I think, "Well I finally got a good night's sleep!"  Then I look at the clock and it's 1:30 or 2 a.m. and I can't get back to sleep.

Tomorrow, I'm going to start things early!  Maybe I can make some progress! I wish you could buy energy at the grocery store and I wish they'd deliver it!

I wish you all a peaceful night's sleep and a happy, healthy tomorrow.  And may God bless us, every one!

Well, besides being semi-quarantined, my darn printer broke down.  I'm sure it deserves to, no telling how old it is.  I can see where the problem is, the little nylon belt that pulls the head back and forth has broken on both ends.  I couldn't get to it even if I could get a replacement.  Don't know that any of the computer fixing places even work on printers.  I actually have a new one, but I got it for when I get Windows 10, and I have no idea how to hook it up, and it might not even work with my old Windows operating system.  Ho, hum.  Just another day in the neighborhood, Mr. Rogers!  You know, if we could get one friend and go someplace
(like a movie, museum) it would sure lessen the depression.  But none of those wonderful places are open.  Not even the libraries still.  Now with the Cities coming in with their new budgets, funding for the arts and libraries are being cut do to all the spending on this Cov-19.  :(

Good morning everyone, going to be HOT today, already 75 at  4:30am. So glad I do not have to go outside. Got my new slow coo yesterday, now to fing something in my freezer  to use it today. That or send Yvette to the market for a nice roast beef, I have the veggies to go with it.

LLOYD  always great when we have a good night's sleep. Yesterday I sure did and last night, too, and woke early and feel great this morning.

JOY  I know just how you are feeling, same thing here. I did go to my grandson's home on July 4th, first time I was away from since this all started.  There was 9 of us all outside and kept our distance.

CALLIE  I think I do less than anyone else in here. I take care of me and that is all. Thank goodness for Yvette and her coming here 5 times a week.

JANE  if I made a list for anything I would forget it. Next time you wake up during the night just shut your eyes and turn over and go back to sleep without looking at the clock. Remember you are retired now and do not have to get up and go to work. Like you I wish I could get energy and also an appetite.

TOMEREADER  My printer needs ink but it is an old one, too. Had it with Windows 7 and it just went right onto Windows 10. No problem.

AMY  I hope you can take it easy today.

Have a good day and stay safe nd cool.

Good Morning Everyfriend!  It's already 70º here this morning and heading for a high of 89!  I'm not looking forward to that.  If Cooper  was here to keep Mickie company, I think I'd take off to do my outside errands early!  He's coming but probably not until around 10 or so.

I have kitchen plans for today including cleaning out one cupboard and the fridge.  And now that I've told you that, I have to get it done.  As soon as the boinger goes off and Mickie and I have our breakfast and I read the paper, I'll be getting started.  And by that time, Cooper will probably be here and I can do the outside errands.  I think Frankie is spending the night here because I have a very early appt with the Kinesiologist tomorrow.  My son has an appt to so he'll drive and we'll go together.  Frankie will go to work from here and leave Cooper with Mickie.  Works out good for all of us.

I wish you all a pleasant day!  Make it your own in every way!  And don't forget to share it with your friends in the Soda Shoppe!

My appointment with the cardiologist yesterday went well even with the changed routine for check-in and waiting room protocol.  It is just a matter of learning a new way of doing things.  But, it is so difficult for me to understand what people are saying to me because masks are covering their mouths and I can't see what they are saying.  I have my hearing aid turned up as high as it will go and I still can't hear the words.  Thank goodness, it helped some to have David along with me to be my "ears".   I think my hearing issues keep me isolated more  than the anxiety over C-19 does.  It is embarrassing to ask people constantly to repeat what they are telling me.

Today will be more of the same since I have a dental appointment.  I hope I can soon get used to the way things are done in this "new world".  <sigh>

Take care, Everyone.

Phyllis,  I have the same issue with not understanding what people say when I can't see their mouths - even with my hearing aids turned up.  Places I went the other day had shields in front of the clerks and they did pull their mask down to repeat.  I still had an issue because of the barrier.

Good news to report this morning is that Miss Ellen has arrived safely at her NYC apartment.  The plane was about half full on the OKC - St. Louis flight and there were only 30 people on the flight from SL to La Guardia.  She said they were "health checked" and handed papers to fill out on the ramp when they got off in NYC.  That didn't take long and the Lyft driver was waiting by the time she's gotten her bags.
She'll have to quarantine for 2 weeks but is prepared and looking forward to being in the city she now calls home.

Off to find something useful to do....or not.  ;)

Hope Everyfriend finds something Enjoyable about today.

A Good Day wish for EVERYFRIEND.

Yesterday was our #3 grandsons 12 Birthday so we did get to join the family for a little celebration.  It sure was good to see them all.  We picked the oldest grandson up from his tennis practice.  He is trying out for his high school tennis team since football has been cancelled.  He will find out tomorrow if he will make the team.

The quick synopsis from Michele's test results today  are over all very good.  One spot shows a marginal amount of growth, but oncologist feels it is not significant enough to worry about .  She will return in three weeks to learn what the new plan of maintenance chemo will be.  Of course she wanted to hear "you are clear of cancer" but we all know that is sadly more than likely never going to happen, so we must be thankful for anything that sounds positive.  She again was told that she will be on some kind of chemo for the rest of her life, and those are hard words to swallow after all she has been through😩😢  I ask for your continued positive thoughts and prayers and thank you for prayers in the past. 🙏

I hope you all are able to finish up all of the projects you had planned for the day.

Have a good one.

Going to call it a night, trip to the city was good got what we needed and hurried home. Ran items over to the neighbour and our friends from up north came down and picked their "stuff" up.

Callie, my neighbour lip reads and masks are a big problem for her. The ones that Bubble posted are better at least you can see and lip read. I made her masks that have the ties on them as the other ones with the elastic are a bother with her hearing aid.

Good night...sleep tight...

Now I'm off to let the doggies out for one last run before bed and then hit the sack.  I have an early morning tomorrow.  My son is picking me up at 7:15 a.m. to go to the Kinesiologist.  I did get a lot done today but I didn't make it to the Farmer's Market.  They are open again on Saturday and I plan to hit them then.

I wish you all a peaceful night's sleep and a happy, healthy tomorrow. And may God bless us, every one!

Good morning everyone,  a her e in spir it but my body wants to be  asleep. Had one of those nights of not sleeping. I got up, read awhile, back to bed-wide awake again. up again and played some games on here  r ead some mo e and laid on the couch this time-wide awake  again. Turned the TV on and nothing good so shut it off. Now I am having my second cup of coffee. Maybe that will let me sleep or at least have a nap? Now if that all makes any sense maybe the men in the white coats are  not on the way here with those funny jackets with the long sleeves.

AMY  hope you hd fun shopping yesterday and found all you needed on the list.

LLOYD  did you really send your restless nights my way? I have been sleeping pretty good the last few weeks but last night was a no sleep one.

JANE  my son bought me a bag of tomatoes yesterday. Today I will blach and peel most of them cut them up and into the freezer. When I get enough I will make spaghetti sauce.

PHYLLIS  I am s tar tig t o asl=k people to repeat what they said. With masks on I cannot hear much except mumbles. Glad things went good with your appointment.

BUBBLE  nice with the mouth showing on some of those masks. In a way I am glad I stay here in my apartment so much, don't have to wear one when I am in here.

Sorry for not saying anything more. I am going back to bed once again and hope for a couple hours sleep.

Have a good day.

Pretty good news about Michelle, Jenny.  Not perfect but compared to what it was before when it all started, it is wonderful.  Made me smile.

I slept in a little bit this morning, too.  I'm glad all the appointments are over with for now.  I was really tired last night.  The good news from the dentist is that I don't have any cavities...the bad news is that he told me this long involved story about his son and I didn't understand a word of it.  I just hope I nodded and laughed in all the right places.

I've seen those transparent masks advertised, Bubble.  However, at those prices I doubt that medical offices would consent to supply them to their staff just for the sake of the minority of the hard of hearing.  I just have to face the fact that this world isn't made just for me and my needs.

Schwan's will bring a freezer order today so I need to make sure there is enough room.

Take care, All.

Well, shucks, Amy, I thought I posted last night but bet I didn't pay attention & one of those times somebody else posted at the same time & I didn't scroll on down to notice. I've had that happen enough times to watch for it but was dead on my feet.

Had my grandson over yesterday and we put back that parquet flooring that came up with the last water leak. That was the 3rd time since we've lived here (31 years) but the other times we caught it before flooring swelled up from being wet. Lucky that the original owners left behind a whole box of those squares so plenty to replace the bad ones. Such a good feeling to have it back to normal after at least a year since the leak. I was going to have that concrete floor sanded down like so many of the stores are doing, looks almost like marble after the make over. BUT, never found anyone that did that job for residential. We both worked hard & got the job done fast, think he was a little surprised how quick I really could move! I paid him for the 2 hours but think we took about an hour... wanted him to realize that getting the job done was the point so the harder & faster he worked the more time to play.

Jenny, so happy to hear about Michelle's latest news.... my brother in law has been on the pill type chemo ever since he had the throat surgery many years ago. He said yesterday that the latest surgery inside his ear, was given a last check up by that doctor. Poor guy, he not only had radiation on his face as a teen that caused so much of the cancers, but he lives in an area of the country (eastern TN/VA) where pollution of ground & water was so bad almost everyone he knows has had some kind of cancer. I feel bad that I can't help him but it's a long drive & even flying means a long drive to an airport on that end. Am glad that she has gotten such good care, but do think a lot had to do with her positive attitude. Bless her heart, I will keep praying that she has many more good years with her family.

Jane, I hope to get up early Sat morning & go to the farmer's market in hopes of finding some home grown tomatoes. They may not be as pretty as those "hot house" tomatoes, but they sure taste better!

I've run the vac in the pool & watered the front yard but have not had my breakfast. All 3 cats turned their noses up at the tuna & salmon (both Chicken of the Sea)... they love it the first day or two but if they don't clean it up by the 3rd day (in the frig, of course)... Tom & Callie watch to see if Tiger eats anything & if she won't, they walk away from their bowls as well. Have to smile when one of them sneaks back to clean up their dish when the others are not looking. I made the mistake of giving them a spoon of each & know better than open 2 cans at once, they don't clean them up fast enough. Such is life on the farm!  :-\

Gloria, I keep wanting to ask about the CNA... did you have an insurance policy that covers that?  My cousin in MO did have. She was a nurse & when her husband got sick & needed lots of care from her, he insisted on taking out a policy that would give her home health or nursing care when she needed it. She had home health care until she had the open heart surgery (runs in the family) and went into rehab that had the virus/disease that ran wild about 6-8 years ago and that got her. Anyway, think you are lucky or smart to have that help & especially one you enjoy as a good friend.

Better close this door, it was cooler out than inside but starting to get steamy now. We had a quickie storm in the middle of the night, not much rain but wind, little hail & thunder-boomers. Not enough rain to help the yard with the heat we're getting, but I gripe all summer.  :-[

There you are, Gloria! Sorry about the sleep running out. My best remedy is to go fill my tummy & back to bed & start the night over. My Doc says it takes a lot of energy to digest the food & works for me.

Had to laugh at your "hope you laughed & smiled at the right places", Phyllis, I'm doing the same thing. Had not realized how much lip reading I've been doing until you can't see the lips!  No easy way around this but do think those inserts of clear plastic may help that part. Thanks for the tip, Bubble.

EDIT:  Amy, just thinking, haven't been in a fabric store for years so do they still carry the thinner clear plastic that could be cut & inserted into a ready make or make your own type mask?  I'm always remodeling clothes (used to) & know I've bought clear plastic for various uses.  I'm against paying high prices for something I can make!

Wishing all a happy day!

Shirley, yes they do sell the clear plastic.., you could even use the plastic that bedding/sheets come in if you save the bags. If you didn't want to sew through it you could glue it in place??

Good morning.

It is trying to clear off and looks like the sun is trying to make an appearance.

Jenny, I am so glad to hear the good news about Michele.  I have been on this journey for over 13 years, been on a chemo pill for over 5 years and doing well.  My doctor tells me that I will probably live to be 100.  LOL  (Not too sure I want to do that, tho)  So, just tell her to stay strong and positive and never give up hope.

I hope to get to a local produce stand on Sat. to get a few things. I especially want to get a cantaloupe that is ready to eat and  I am hungry for some good fresh string beans.  Have not had any for a long time.  I like to cook them with a smoked pork neck and I found a store that carries them.  The store is near where my son works, and he is going to pick one up for me.  That is how my mother cooked her string beans and they have such a good flavor.  I will wait to get the beans after I get the piece of meat.

I need to get dressed and clean up my breakfast dishes.

Have a good day and be safe.

Joy

Bubble,  those are interesting masks with the clear insert - but they wouldn't help those of us with hearing issues unless The Other Person was wearing one.  ;)

I keep hearing about the "thickness" of the mask making a difference.  Latest one is that the neck gaiters aren't as effective. Those are the ones that look like a winter scarf around the neck and are pulled up over the face.
I'd wondered what those things were called and think they'd be really uncomfortable in the kind of heat we have around here.

Son brought a delicious dinner from Fish City and we had a good "work session" with the photo album.

No cooking, canning, repair work or errand running on the Plan du Jour around here - just playing Solitaire games on Tablet, reading e-books and more sorting and arranging pictures on pages.

Hope Everyfriend Everywhere finds something Enjoyable about today.

hahahahahaha..... Callie, " they wouldn't help those of us with hearing issues unless The Other Person was wearing one". I didn't think about that!  :uglystupid2: I never thought I had a hearing problem except all my life the ears could honestly pick up the sound of my husband's watch ticking laying on the chest of drawers across the room & even had to prove to him that I could "hear him blink". He believed! Now I have tinnitus but figured a way to handle that with the Sony Walkman ear buds... hard to hear those extra noises when the '40s & '50s music is piped direct into the ears/brain!

I do have a problem with "background" music on the radio or TV. Think it mainly irritates me to have anything invade my head unless I invite the sounds. My local radio station/personality has recently started playing background music during their morning all news show. I miss half of what they say because the beat & sound covers their voices. I've kept this radio show on for many years because they do rush hour traffic accidents or "watch for" and I wanted to make sure my family wasn't one of the break in notices.

Joy, good luck with finding a sun ripe cantaloupe. I outsmarted myself with the last watermelon, thought it ripe but to play safe, left it a couple days before cutting. Bad ... was drying out with big crevices inside. I don't think any are local grown around here. One reason I love going to CO in the fall, they grow everything out there & lots of stands along the highway. I just "fried" me a skillet of French sliced green beans (GrGiant)... I put a pat of butter in a skillet & use half or whole chopped onion, saute until they glow & drain about half the water off the can of beans & cook them down until liquid gone. I used to love it with bites of ham but think the flavor of the butter wins. I use a lot of real butter.

Back to work, I'm going to wash one load of clothes even though it is mid day..... can't keep up with only washing in evening hours, I run out of steam.

Shirley,  Glad to be of service!

Great idea for the green beans.  Son brought some with my dinner but they were "crisp cooked" and too raw for my taste or digestive system. I saved them and doing them in the skillet sounds almost like the fried green beans I always order at a local restaurant.  Of course, theirs are "breaded" but I'm not going to try that.

Not only do I now have a hearing problem but I'm also on drops to control eye pressure. There's a history of glaucoma in my family and eye doctor is concerned about my measurement.  One grandmother was both legally deaf and legally blind - but the eye issue was supposed to have been because, as a young girl, she put bella donna drops in her eyes to "make them sparkle".  ;)  I don't have that "excuse".  ;D

Hello to all you friends who gathered here today!  I got home from the Chiropractor a little before noon and I loved the ride to and from with my son.  We never seem to have much time alone together and that's an opportunity I'll take any day.

In addition to that, we both felt better on the ride home so it was a win/win situation.  I'd like it if we had time to stop on the way home for lunch but he takes more time off from the store than he thinks he should just to go and I'm glad he does that.

After I got home, I took care of the doggies and had lunch and then did next to nothing for about an hour or so and decided if I was going to be lazy I might as well sleep so I checked and the couch was loaded with zzzzs and I grabbed some.  You wouldn't think that going to a Dr. would wear you out but no matter how good my body feels when she's done working on it, I'm really tired.  She says that's natural because she isn't the one fixing things.  Your body is doing all the work.  She just tells it what to do!

I'm off to bed now.  I've got all the stuff set out to make a couple batches of jam tomorrow if I have enough jars.  And Mickie needs a bath and on the day she gets a bath, the bed gets changed and the sheets get washed.  I'm not sure of the order of events but that's the plan for tomorrow.

I wish you all a peaceful night's sleep and a happy, healthy tomorrow.  And may God bless us, every one!

Another rainy day here and really "soupy" outside with the high humidity.  We had a thunderstorm last night with loud claps right overhead that made me jump a foot each time.  They gave me, and my heart, some exercise.

David will pick up the groceries today.  I'm still having trouble getting paper goods.  I'm running very low on paper towels, napkins, and facial tissue.  Toilet paper is OK for now.  I suppose everyone is feeling the high prices at the grocery store.  Our prices are soaring and even the freezer delivery from Schwan's yesterday the prices have gone up a lot!  I feel so sorry for those larger families and especially some who are still out of work.  A real struggle for many of them.

Take it easy, Everyone.

Good Morning Everyfrend!  I've been up and attem since Mickie decided 5:30 would be a good time to get up.  I did sleep a bit better last night...maybe because stuff didn't hurt after my visit with Debra.

I have jars sterilizing and the jam ready to cook but I'm not turning it on until the jars start to boil.  My plan is for two batches of jam today...one black raspberry and one triple berry.  The berries are all ready to go and so am I right now. So I'll check back later to see how things are going in the Soda Shoppe and maybe indulge in a chocolate soda...my favorite when I was growing up!

Enjoy your day, whatever it brings.

AMY, I wish I had some of those cucumbers.  That would make up my mind about the mustard pickles.  I'm still hedging.  I want to but....do I or am I just a copy cat!

It is another hot day here and we do need the AC running. I am doing the top sewing of a scrappy quilt.  That is enough for this day.

Shirley:  I should check out Postum for a coffee flavor - thanks.

Amy:  Will look at Jordon Fabrics, thanks.

Jane S.  Glad to read your Mickie's leg has improved.

Jenny:  Yes, our family has made the straight through drives and we did as well.  Mom and I drove straight thru from Seattle to mid Minnesota once - that is where I learned to pass a truck.   :coolsmiley:

Jenny:  Continuing prayers for Michele.  This news is really nice.

I am OK with the neighbors - they just leapt to a conclusion.  Otherwise, we are close to quite a few neighbors so we are OK.    Gotta run.

Just stopped by to see what Everyfriend has been up to all day.  I'm really beat.  Making jam makes a lot of grungy dishes and, while I admire the results of the jam sitting there beaming at me, I wish the dishes didn't take so much energy to clean up!  But I have 18 half pints of jam labeled and ready to give for Christmas gifts ore eat when I feel like it.

Tomorrow, I'm going to clean up the tomatoes that I picked today and make a quick trip to the local Farmers market.  I have a list but if I get everything I have on the list, I'll new two extra days next week to deal with it.  But, again, like Scarlet, I'll think about that tomorrow.

Right now, I'm going to bed and hopefully to sleep the sleep of the righteous!  I think tht would be all night!  I wish you all a peaceful night's sleep and a happy healthy tomorrow.  And may God bless us, every one!
