GROWING OLD WITH GUILT

A man has no trouble recalling his past,
When the end of his days is coming up fast.
With the devil's hot breath at his heels now at last,
A man spends much time, regretting his past.

Regretting the booze he drank every day,
Ashamed to face loved ones he's driven away,
He recalls in an instant, that time worn cliché',
The piper has played and it's time now to pay.

It's terribly hard to summon up pride,
His veracity marred by the times he has lied,
Behind him the rivers of tears he has cried,
With his life like a lawn where the grass has all died.

His time here is ending, where will he go?
The world's passed him by and he's out of the flow,
His prime is behind him, he's nothing to show,
The pendulum swings, slowly to, slowly fro.

Each beat of his heart, brings a thought from the past,
Each breath makes him wonder, will this be my last?
His sails hang in tatters from what's left of the mast,
The good years of life have passed by much too fast.

He oft turns to God, whom he hopes will appease,
The pain he is bearing, in times such as these,
He begs for forgiveness in all of his plea's,
Yes a man late in life, spends much time on his knees.

I thank you all for the nice birthday greetings‼️   I truly enjoyed a wonderful day, with so many birthday calls and so many friends and family reaching out to me.  I had a 2 hour PT and they even made me feel special there🥳🥳

Wonderful to read the feeding tube is gone JANE, and you were able to eat some real food and keep it down.  You are so ON YOUR WAY to healing completely 🥰🥰🥰

I also have some relief from my painful, "good shoulder"‼️ I saw my surgeon for my 12 week post op, and he was very pleased with my surgery shoulder....he said he knows that my recovery is going to take time to heal due to the trauma I went through and and the 8 months of the shoulder not moving.  Because of the reversed replacement it is going to need a lot of muscle building, but he liked what he saw in the arm.  We discussed my good shoulder and he fe3ls I will need another reverse shoulder replacement down the road as my rotator cuff is so messed up and the arthritis🤪🤪🤪. He gave me a cortisone shot and I can tell already it is showing good improvement I hope it continues‼️

Pleasant dreams to all.

Good morning..
Tis a winter wonderland out there this morning. Not enjoy for a dance with Mr Snowblower but a waltz with Mr Shovel.
We has a blast yesterday, starting with my friend getting out of the pacemaker clinic before her appointed time. Plus she thought  her pacemaker had to be replaced soon but the girl said not for 3 years!!

Then the fun began, we shopped till we dropped , hitting 8+ stores ! We did bring home two tired ol ladies that had a great day. I mentioned to Kyle that I could stay home the rest of the week and he burst my bubble by saying the dentist called and I will be heading back down that same road on Thur..

Jane, that is the best news you can give!! I just bet you could have danced out of the Dr office!!

Today is catch up day.....wonder what will win......work about house or naps? :))

Lloyd, I did send it to your email.....but here it is  again.

Jenny, all you want for Christmas is pain free shoulders!!

Patricia, we finally got the snow. I was kidding Bri that they could keep the 8 " of snow and we would do with just the 1" we had but that is now changed :(

Gloria, I listened to plows going in the night. Can you ask for a CNA or do you have to take what they send?

Phyllis, I did hear something about a shortage , I don't think it was a good year for the syrup last Spring..maybe this Spring it will be better. Our neighbour always gives us a bottle or two of fresh syrup.

Better get ready for the day..

Good Morning Everyfriend!  I'm sitting here with my first cup of real coffee for the day!  I love it!

BUBBLE, thanks so much for the new Soda Shoppe!  I loved all the pictures and words!  You do such a terrific job and I don't think we tell you that often enough!

JENNY, prayers continue for your healing process!  It sounds like it's moving in the right direction.  Sometimes we think it's too slow but progress is progress and we must take it as it comes!  I speak from experience!

AMY, please keep that snow on your side of the border!  Having the kids take care of me is more than enough to ask.  I love having Christy here and Frankie is a frequent helper too but I also know they are going waaaaay out of the way to do it!  Of course, if we do get snow, my neighbor and I still own the snow blower together and he'll do the driveway!  Just makes it easier to make appointments if we don't have to worry about snow.

This was going to be a shortie but I guess I got carried away!  Must be the coffee!  I wish you all a good day...better than yesterday but not as good as tomorrow!

Good morning everyone and Happy December. Another cold morning here 33 and no sun shining yet.

JANE  for anyone that loves their morning coffee I bet you did enjoy those few tablespoons of it. I know about going out exhausting you. I almost stayed home on Thanksgiving because I knew I would do not hing for a few days after. About  all I did till Monday was lay on the couch and sleep on and off.

PHYLLIS  Yvette had been making shakes for me with icecream and Ensure, Not bad and at times I would put a little chocolate or coffee syrup into it and was better. I know, you are wondering  coffee syrup? That has been around RI-our state drink-and Mass for years. The only way my daughter would drink milk and when she got married and moved to Ca.I sent a case of it to her.

PATRICIA  there is one senior houseing here in town that look like a little village. 4 apartments to a bilding on 2 floors, no elevators either.  The laundry is in a seperate building and no matter the weather you have to go from a building to the laundry one. Another senior building looks like a prison to me. This building is small and a beautiful one outside and not bad inside. Like I said before only 53 apartments so not crowded.

JANE  HOORAY you can have coffee and good tasting food again. You had the best  nurses you could find through all of this, even traveled far to be with you.

SHIRLEY  glad y ou are finally getting back to painting. Regina jus t finished 2 painting for her sons for Christmas gifts. Mom does the painting and Dad makes the frames.

BUBBLE  thanks for the December book to fill up and the wonderful graphics by Phyllis and you. Love the quoteby O.W.H
I think all who gossip all the time should read the Jewish proverb. Now I know why I stopped going to sit on the porch with some of the others when I listened to the same thing several days and it  always changed depending on who was talking. Thanks for all today's goodies.

JENNY  I was  telling my son Saturday I was going to call my doctor for a referral  to a ort hopedic dr. to see about a shot in my left shoulder, really is get ting to me, even hard  to get  the arm to the keyboard.

AMY  since  this new one is in charge every t ime I asked some thing she gets huffy and  tells me  they are short handed and I get what they have. Sorry but one I do like is wanting more hours. BTW we seem  to have more rain in the forecast and not snow.

JANE  so good  to see your pos t this morning amd know you can enjoy your coffee and eating again.

Have a good day, be safe and stay safe.

Good morning, minus five in the Interior, where we are still waiting for any snow promised overnight. I knew it was warmer before I checked as the little creaks, snaps, and aches had gradually disappeared overnight.

Bubble, I love what you've done for the place! Especially "A word is not a crystal, transparent and unchanged, it is the skin of a living thought and may vary greatly in color and content according to the circumstances and the time in which it is used. -Oliver Wendell Holmes, Jr., jurist (1841-1935)"

Shirley,  all that was wrong with me this past week other than some basic sniffles the week prior; were dings I had during my life acting up from time to time, nothing more.

Gloria, besides this senior independent living building, the Pioneers' complex offers both independent and medical assistance in their facilities. I know when mom was there in the nineties, it was $5000 monthly. She was there with late-stage Alzheimers.

You have to both belong to the Pioneers Organization and have been in the state for over thirty years to use their facility. Then there is Ravenhill, an over 65 independent living complex for those with money to spare. I'm sure there is more in both our communities.

Jane, you make our hearts sing but then did we really expect anything else from our Pennsylvanian Yankee?

Jenny, & Gloria, I hope you both receive some shoulder relief soon!

Amy, that walnut pie crust sounds good to me; I'm sure Lloyd and Shirley will love it, and with all those walnuts, put it to good use.

Well, December 1 is drawing to a close and this is the first day since I've been home that I didn't spend a big part of it in the recliner.  It was a good day!  The temp has dropped into the high 30s and we're supposed to have rain most of the night.  At least it's not going to snow us in!

It sounds like most of you who reported in are doing OK!  Keep it up!

I'm just about to hit the haystack and grab some zzzzs!  I wish you all a peaceful night's sleep and a happy tomorrow.  And may God bless us, every one!

I'm happy to follow Jane's good night blessing.......and join with God Bless and Sweet Dreams to all.  I am more than sleepy in spite of a couple quickie naps today. WE might break a record high weather tomorrow, hard to believe this is December. Must put up some outside lights. I have 4 special  birthdays this first week of Dec, all dead now so time to remember how much each meant. My mind is wandering.... :christmastree:  :snowman:  :snowball:

I posted here earlier today, but it appears I forgot to hit save or something as it is not here.

Just want to acknowledge that you are 💯 percent correct AMY. It would be a blessing if I can have my shoulders not be so painful.  I do believe this cortisone shot is working as my pain level is considerably less, and I am able to type so much easier.

JANE, I know with out a doubt that you do have personal experience how we feel our recovery is not as quick as we want it to be.  I just want to do my best to cooperate in my therapy so I can get my shoulder work ing again‼️  You take care and continue with your positive outlook as you get stronger ‼️

Thank you, PATRICIA.... I am on the way to some good relief from my pain, and I hope GLORIA will get her shoulder some cortisone relief as well.

SHIRLEY, we are breaking all kind of records here right now....temperatures and days of no perception😩😩. Thinks are getting dire here!

Pleasant dreams to EVERYFRIEND 🎄

Good Morning Everyfriend!  Morning has come and so has Cooper!  He's such a good little boy!  And morning is glorious!

I wish healing and rest for everyfriend who needs it!  Keep on keeping on!

Today we have a nurse and a therapist coming so I'll have to get cleaned up a bit before they come.  I've managed to make the bed for the past four mornings and it feels good to be doing things.

Coffee's here!  I think this has become my third favorite part of the morning.  First is greeting any family that's in the house, second is greeting all of you and third is coffee!  You don't know the things you miss when they're not there until they're not there!

I better get moving!  I wish you all a good day...better than yesterday ut not as good as tomorrow.

Good morning everyone, 45 this morning and drizzling again, just enough to make everything outside wet. I noticed t he recue ambulance outside yesterday about  the time the CNA got here. Well about 5pm yesterday I noticed a paper under my door. Bad news. They took someone to the hospital with covid. Of course they will not  say who or what floor. The CNA said she  saw  the EMTs on the short hall on the first floor when she got to the elevator.  Only 2 apartments  there and  the other for the maintenance  man is empty, New one does not stay here.

PATRICIA  there are some assisted living places in  this state but none that I could afford. At times I see a commercial for one on TV and it looks like a country club more than senior living. The people look like models more than tenants.

LLOYD  glad your grands got you back with us again. We are lucky to have gands help us with  these darn computer problems.

AMY  I copied the walnut  piecrust recipe you posted and wish I could make it. I did send it to my daughter and DIL and both emailed me saying they might try it.

PATRICIA  I don't dare copy your link to the Xmas clock. I can just "see" my great grand bugging him with checkinng it all day. Of course he has his own kids  table t wi th games on it so maybe it could be put there.

JANE  good  to know that you are spending less  time res ting in your recliner, means you are ge tting a bit more back to normal again. Eating better again, too?

SHIRLEY  does not  feel like December here ei ther.  Too warm and no snow either. Oh we had tha tvery li ttle dus ting one night but  for us  that is not snow.

JENNY  my #1 son says he thinks I have a torn rotator cuff in my left shoulder all I know is I am being careful what I do.

Better get myself going, CNA another different one- will be here at 11 and I have not had breakfast or dressed yet.

Have a good day and stay healthy and be safe.

I'm here but need to shower & wash my hair for a quick run to Walmart again. I'm getting me the remote thingy to turn off outside lights if I get them put up today!  I hate having to go out & unplug before going to bed but don't want to leave them on all night. With the new strands of LED lights it probably wouldn't be as expensive, but don't know about the rest of you, EVERYTHING I go to buy these days is about triple what it was a year ago! This is the day we are supposed to get to mid-or upper 70s, so will be griping about the heat by night, you think?  ;)

Gloria, my friend here has had a shoulder paining her so much she doesn't sound like herself at all, says it's not in the joint but muscle that joins below the joint. I don't think I've ever had a pain there so no clue what the rotor cuff feels like. She thinks it may be a pinched nerve but neither one of us know a chiropractor we would recommend or go to near here. Both of us think we know more than our doctors  ::)  ;)  (okay, at OUR ages we do know OUR bodies better than they do....)  Hope the person with Covid survives and it doesn't spread. Have most had the shots?  Stay safe!!!

Sounds like some are perking up but some still praying for relief of pains, so hugs to all and enjoy your day the best you can!  :christmastree:  :snowman:

Callie, I just checked & it says 74° right now. I'm seeing it, feeling it and still don't believe I'm not dreamming. Speaking of which, time to get a few zzzzzzzzs & start the day over. All I've done is feed cats, eat & shower, went to Walmart & home to eat again, feed cats and they are all zoned out so making me super sleepy.... "and away we go"..... I should be out stringing up lights & decorations but I feel like I'm drugged so sleepy. Always another day, right?

Well, where is everyone?  No one's been by here since a little after 3 today!

I had a nice walk down the street to the mail box and then I sat out on the porch swing for about 15 minutes when I got back.  I hard boiled some eggs and had a nice egg salad with some oddities mixed in for my lunch.  I've worked my way through all the newspapers that came while I was in the hospital doing all the crossword puzzles and word jumbles on the way.

Tonight, when Christy made dinner, I joined in an did a jar of my canned taters in the air fryer.  It's the first time Christy's had them and she loved them!

I still can't eat a lot at one time and I have to mash it up with my fork so I just had some more of it for my bedtime snack.  Today has been a good day for me and I hope all of you are healing your hurts and getting your rest.  I wish you all a peaceful night's sleep and a happy tomorrow.  And may God bless us, every one!

P.S. Our temps got into the mid 50s and that's pretty good for Dec. in PA!

Our temp's are around 50 now. Very windy, or gusty here now. An inside door just slammed and I'm here alone. I guess there must be some air leaks. I'll check things out before I go to bed.
Went out earlier to get my Booster shot.  My son also needed his so he drove. Got our at CVS which is not far from here but it's nice to not have to drive. Just sit and watch all the others trying to get where they want to be.  So far no reaction to the Booster.
Next outing is  the Dentist next week. I never thought about all these fun things we have to do till I retired (long ago).  But I suppose it keeps us busy and out of trouble.

Good morning..

Yesterday went well, a new dentist did the work and she was excellent! I miss the dentist that I had for over 40 ( WOW )years but need to give the young ones a chance.

Today is on the road again but just into town to the garage to find out where I have an oil leak. Need to do some Christmas baking today. Does it seem that summer went by fast and poof....winter Christmas is upon us?

Jane, what great day you had, bet it felt good to go out under your own power!! I too had soft scrambled eggs and the taters for supper.!!

Shirley, was it Jackie Gleason that said " Away we go"?

Patricia, it is 18° and still windy. Not as bad as last night where we did lose powder for a bit. No snow.

Gloria, I have not made that crust....never knew of one like that till Lloyd told us. Pastry is one of the things I am making today  and then into Frangipane tarts.

Sandy, good to see you.

Rick,we sure are kept busy with Dr appointments it seems. Keep out of trouble, that is no fun. :))

Better get ready for the day.

Enjoy your day and stay safe.

Good morning everyone, Woke  too early again. CNA I had yesterday was pretty good and I am getting her again today. Will be at 2pm so will have time for a nap later. I got a good back massage and she made my supper, too. Not bad for the first time here. She did not  just sit  there doing nothing.

SHIRLEY  I felt  OK here till I read about  all you did yesterday. Makes me feel so worn out I an ready  to lay on the couch already. When are you going to slow down a little?  I know keep going and you will keep moving. Just  wish I could s till do t hings and then think of my back and my age and feel like I should just stay in bed.

CALLIE  keep your 70+ temperature, I like it normal and cold at this time of year.

JANE  glad to read you walked to your mailbox and did some cooking yesterday. Nothing like beeing home to make one feel better.

RAMMEL  after giving up my driving days I enjoy sitting and letting others do the driving. I can "rubber neck" now loo‌g at all the changes in the scenery. Missed that when driving. The road and other vehicles were what  I saw in those days.

AMY  another one with a dentist visit. After what happened to me last time I am afraid to have to take a chance with the antibiotics again. With a foreign material in my shoulder I have to  take some an hour before going to the dentist. That new dentist here should never have prescribed them instead of looking at the infection first. I know the one who retired would never have done that.

Had 2 cups of coffee while sitting here so now guess it is time for breakfast.

Have a good day, stay healthy and safe.

I made my own coffee and for my breakfast, I had a jar of black raspberries that I had canned.  Good breakfast.  Christy just left to take Cooper for a walk.  Right now, the temp is 39 and cloudy heading for a high of 46.  Not too bad!  Maybe I'll try another walk outside today!

GLORIA, nice to hear you got a CNA you like!  I hope she comes more often!

I wish you all a good day...better than yesterday but not as good as tomorrow!

I'm looking at the weather showing up on the bottom of the computer, says 39° but when I clicked on Wichita current weather (Weatherbug) it shows 49°. I fed cats about 5:00am but not hungry myself so back for an hour of zzzzzzs. No deep sleep all night so not really rested. Before coming back to the kitchen I tried on 6 or 8 pairs of slacks to find some comfy ones to wear. I have lost "muscle mass" so clothes looking baggy & can't stand anything tight around my waist so keep wearing the same comfy ones all the time. Been working at cleaning out 4 closets & a room downstairs absolutely full of stuff I do not wear but "might change my mind"... so hang on to them. This is where my head it today so it is time to quit debating myself and start hauling stuff out.

Gloria, I really don't get a lot accomplished but plugging on. I am SO short winded I gasp for air when I walk thru the house (seriously) but so much needs doing I can't make a dent in the jobs. My oxygen level is staying pretty much in the upper 80s but goes lower the more I do. Makes me angry that even my primary doctor defers to the cardio & doesn't show any interest in this being a left over from Covid and NOT that valve problem. I know it's different and besides, that new pig valve & 3 by-passes 8 years ago didn't help the breathing and the 2 stents last year didn't improve the breathing. That's the problem, when you go to doctors that do surgery, you get surgery, and we don't seem to have any lung doctors around here. Enough griping for now. So glad you got a good back rub & hope she will be around until Yvette returns.

Off to eat breakfast, Lloyd, your oatmeal sounds good. TomCat loves a big chunk of my egg when I fry one for a sandwich. Poor thing, he looks so skinny & eats all the time. Not sure how much longer he will survive without pain, I will have the vet give him "the shot" when he is in pain, but he is so terrified of all humans I hate to put him through going to a vet.

Think you are right, Amy (Jackie Gleason). Cas used to think that show was so funny but it wasn't my kind of humor. Hope the oil leak isn't serious.

Rick, my daughter gets her shots at CVS as well & always been happy with the service until this last trip. New lady didn't "code" it right & she was charged for it. They have not gone to Medicare yet because her husband is still working (at 68). Their insurance is the best possible & they can't find a replacement for him so he is happy & they are happy. He doesn't do a lot around the house & both of them have traveled the world, he grew up & went to school all over the world & she did her traveling for the company & had first class all the way.  Now she goes back & forth across the US to baby sit their grands when needed.

Jane, is it about time to get another pup?  I still plan to get one when the cats are gone, won't torture them with a dog. Strange they are so afraid of them & their mother will take on any around, even the German Shepherd down the street & pit bull next door. She goes right to their nose & either whacks them with her paw/claws or they back off & run, she is much smaller than Tom & Tiger.

Off to fix breakfast or brunch.... Have a great day!

It's beautiful here today.  We're getting the warm weather that you all in the central US have been having.  It was 70 yesterday and supposed to be 72 today.  I don't mind that a bit.

I made it to the dr. on Wed. and, with David's help, did better than I thought I would.  It took me a long time to get through the examination and then she wanted me to have some blood work done but I made it. I was really tired when I got home but was so encouraged that I was able to make it through the day with all the walking and waiting.  While I was there she gave me the Pfizer booster shot so I'm fully up-to-date with my covid vaccination.  I feel good about that.  I had the flu shot while I was in the hospital.

David is out picking up the grocery order so that will take care of the food for the week.  Things are getting back into a routine and I'm feeling better about that.  I even made a pretty good dinner of fish patties with side veggies last night for dinner so I think I'm getting my strength back slowly.  Walking more steadily now, too, even though I'll always need the rollator.  At least, I haven't had to go to a wheelchair, yet.  Things are looking up.  May not need to go into assisted living, after all.  Yay!

Take care, All.

Good morning from the Interior currently at minus thirty-five. While we're back in our "normal, snowless, winter weather, I found this that probably won't come as a surprise.

"It's December, for those of you who don't own calendars.

But our calendarless neighbors can be excused for thinking it may be November or even October based on the current color of their grass. Americans from the Pacific to the Atlantic are putting up Christmas lights and lighting menorah candles without the usual wintry scene-setter – wintry, white, blanketing snow. So where's it at?

Well, almost nowhere in the United States, apparently.

As of Dec. 2, just 8.6% of the contiguous U.S. is covered by snow, according to data from the National Weather Service (NWS). That's the lowest amount of snow coverage at this time of year since 2003, the first year records on contiguous U.S. snow coverage were tracked. At this time in 2020, that figure was 16%, and in 2019, nearly half the country was covered in snow, as 46.2% of the nation was blanketed.

And it's not just that many states in the country haven't seen the usual snow amounts yet. On the opposite end of the temperature spectrum, conditions are historically warm in many areas of the nation, even record-breaking in some spots.

Throughout California, high-temperature records for the month of December fell on Wednesday, including in Palm Springs, where a high of 91 degrees Fahrenheit was the daily record high.

According to AccuWeather Meteorologist Ryan Adamson, that warmth is far from over and will even expand farther to the east over the next several days, leaving temperature records in peril for areas such as Oklahoma City, Lubbock, Texas, and Little Rock, Arkansas, just to name a few.

In Denver, residents are still waiting for the city's first measurable snowfall of the season, the latest it has ever arrived. Instead of snow, on the first day of December, the city got something much different.

"Denver tied its daily record of 73 degrees originally set in 1973. This also continued Denver's streak of no measurable snow (0.1 of an inch or greater) so far this season," Adamson said. "The previous record for the latest first measurable snow was Nov. 21, 1934, so a new record will continue to be established each day until measurable snow finally occurs."

AccuWeather National Reporter Tony Laubach recently moved back to Colorado and said it's been a bit of a bummer to go this long without snow.

"Coming back to Colorado for the first time, it's definitely a downer that we're now into the first week of December, and we have not seen snow yet in many spots, and what has fallen has been so little," he said. "A snowless fall in Colorado hurts me more than a not-so-white Christmas. Really, all I want at this point is snow, and the sooner on the calendar the better."

Those sentiments are likely shared by residents throughout the U.S., not just those in the western half of the country.

In the northern Plains, Taylor Foster of Spearfish, South Dakota, told AccuWeather that while she has grown accustomed to milder winters in recent years, this year's rendition "seems even more extreme."

"We usually have had some major snowstorms by this time of year. Right now, there's green grass in my front yard," she said. "It's been 70 degrees the past two days, when normally it's freezing temperatures."

Foster added that although she's not the biggest fan of the snow, she's concerned about what the lack of precipitation means because the snow is necessary to replenish the underground water supply and keep drought conditions at bay. Plus, local ski resorts have already begun feeling the sting of a slow-starting winter.

"There's a ski mountain in Spearfish that hasn't opened yet," she said. "I feel bad for the people who bought their season passes."

To the east, some snow has fallen in areas around the Great Lakes and Northeast like normal this year, but those farther south, in the southern Appalachians and southern Ohio Valley, have also been left empty-handed.

Compared to Decembers in which much snow has fallen early, like last year, the wintry precipitation is not only lacking but potentially unlikely to arrive anytime soon. Even as a cold front is forecast to sweep through the country early next week, high temperatures in the Southeast will still likely trend above average.

"While temperatures will no longer challenge records behind the front in the Southeast, highs will still likely be near to slightly above normal," Adamson said. "As a result, the cooling will be much less noticeable as compared to areas farther to the north and west."

Continuing to dream of a white Christmas
As AccuWeather long-range meteorologists pointed to in the 2021 edition of the annual white Christmas forecast, residents of lower latitude states and in the country's heartland may be left disappointed if they're holding out hope for a scenic Christmas morning.

In Denver, Laubach said he wouldn't care about missing out on a white Christmas, partially because of how many years he's spent living in less snowy areas, and also from "working in TV weather where if there was a white Christmas, I was working those Christmas days" anyway.

But in warm Texas, at least one weather enthusiast, Jackson Desmond of Mansfield, Texas, is hanging on to a different ambition.

"Though chances are low, I am still holding out hope for a white Christmas as it would be the first time one has occurred in DFW since 2011," Desmond said in a message, adding that he believes the shift in weather this winter doesn't entirely rule out snow, "but it seems that our chances will most likely be after Christmas."

Where there is some snow
Residents in areas around the Great Lakes may be reading this news with disbelief, as heavy lake-effect snow has fallen in recent weeks.

For parts of eastern Wisconsin, in particular, the snow was dense enough to account for multiple snow days in heavily populated areas. A high of 7 inches of snow was recorded in the town of Mountain, Wisconsin, on Nov. 30, allowing local winter sports enthusiasts to flock to nearby mountains to start the ski season.

Over Thanksgiving weekend, lake-effect snow fell across parts of northern Michigan, adding to the drama for some high-stakes, late-season football games. The matchup in East Lansing between Michigan State University and Penn State University, which was decided by a field goal, was played in steady snowfall and the field was covered almost from the opening kickoff.

Multiple clipper storms have also dumped snow into areas of upstate New York and northern New England, aligning with the prognostications from the annual AccuWeather U.S. winter forecast published back in September.

"This winter, I think, is going to be a colder one, at least for the interior sections from the Appalachians to the Ohio Valley and Great Lakes," AccuWeather Senior Meteorologist Paul Pastelok said at the time. So far, it's certainly shaping up that way even before the official arrival of winter.

AccuWeather's 2021-2022 Canada winter forecast

Winter in Canada may seem like a Groundhog Day-type of forecast. Despite the country's vastness, "cold and snowy" should be the copy-paste-repeat annual seasonal outlook, right?

Not so fast, longtime AccuWeather expert meteorologist Brett Anderson said as AccuWeather released its annual Canada winter forecast this week, spelling out what different areas of the country can expect.

The climatological phenomenon known as La Niña is present far out in the Pacific Ocean once again this year, and as Anderson can attest, with his decades of Canadian forecasting experience, it is sure to play a key role in the overall weather pattern this coming winter.

During last year's winter, which was also influenced by La Niña conditions, the country had abnormally high temperatures, averaging as much as 40 degrees Fahrenheit above average in January. Yet come February, that trend flipped, with cities such as Edmonton and Winnipeg recording some of their lowest temperatures in recorded history.

This year, Anderson said similarly frosty conditions could make a biting return, although some areas of the country could be spared.Take a look below for a complete breakdown of how the winter season, which officially begins on Tuesday, Dec. 21, will play out across Canada.

La Niña = Cold + Stormy
During a La Niña phase, which occurs on average every three to five years, sea surface temperatures in the open waters of the equatorial Pacific Ocean dip to below-average levels. By mid-October, a La Niña phase had officially developed, the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) said in a news release. That effect on Canada, particularly in the western half of the country, will likely send temperatures falling even lower than they do during the average winter.

This is due to the amplified polar jet stream, which can usher in colder air and more frequent storms. According to Anderson, that's exactly what residents in the country's western provinces should be prepared for.

"The upcoming winter is expected to be fairly stormy from southern British Columbia through the Canadian Rockies with many opportunities for significant rainfall and strong winds along the coast," Anderson said. "Abundant snowfall is expected throughout much of ski country from the Coastal Range of British Columbia through the Rockies of western Alberta."

In southern British Columbia, around Vancouver, far more rain than usual is expected to fall this winter, helping to ease abnormally dry conditions. According to Anderson, the past three winters all brought near- to above-normal precipitation, which includes rain and melted snow.

"Based on what I see, I think this winter will be wetter than the past five winters in southern British Columbia," he said. "I think this winter will certainly put a dent in the ongoing severe drought across south-central parts of the province. Conditions have already improved across southwestern British Columbia this fall as drought conditions have almost disappeared."

While that may sound like great news for skiers in the southern portions of those provinces, winter sports fanatics living farther north could be disappointed.

Due to the primary storm track angling so far to the south, Anderson said, precipitation and snowfall quantities may end up lower than average in northern British Columbia and Yukon.

Polar vortex to plunge down into Canadian Prairies
In the central portions of Canada, La Niña's frigid ripple effects will mix with the harsh cold unleashed by blasts from the polar vortex. The combination could demand the need for an extra layer under the winter jacket this year even more than in years past, particularly for those who live in the Prairies.

According to Anderson, the polar vortex could be displaced from its normal area above the North Pole and plunge into central Canada from time to time this winter. As Canadians experienced in February, that can make for a bitter and brutal few weeks.

"I believe we may see at least three extreme blasts of bitterly cold air dropping down into the southern Prairies this winter," Anderson said, noting that temperatures could plunge lower than 20 degrees below zero Fahrenheit (30 below zero C) on those occasions. "This winter will likely end up colder than the winter of 2018-2019 and the coldest winter since 2013-2014 in the region."

The winter will be about 3 degrees Fahrenheit (1.5 to 2 degrees Celsius) lower than average for the southern Prairies, Anderson said, with the lowest departures across Alberta and Saskatchewan.

Such surges may take a toll on the heating bill but could spell good news to hobbyists in need of solid ice conditions, such as ice fishers or outdoor hockey players.

Another impact from this season's La Niña-impacted polar jet stream will be increased snowfall in the provinces of Ontario and Quebec, which account for much of the eastern portion of the nation. Anderson said fans of snow in those heavily-populated areas can thank the polar jet stream for that increased snowfall.

Frequent cold intrusions across the Prairie region this winter should also force the secondary storm track well far to the south in the U.S., Anderson said. Storms will instead take aim at the Rockies and southern Plains of the U.S., before swinging northward and cutting up into parts of eastern Canada.

"The majority of the snowstorms will track up into Ontario and Quebec," he said. Warmer weather in east won't ruin ski season.

While the western half of the country will be bundling up this winter, Anderson said residents in much of the eastern half will save themselves a few Canadian dollars on heating costs. Climatologically above-average temperatures are likely in store for those regions, which includes some of the country's most populated and visited cities of Toronto, Montreal and Ottawa.

But that doesn't spell doom for snowfall totals, so forecasters say don't cancel that ski trip just yet.

"While this winter does not look all that cold from Ontario to Quebec, it will be cold enough to support many opportunities for significant snowfall this winter," Anderson said. "I expect a favorable winter with solid snow bases across much of ski country in eastern Canada and especially across Quebec."

Similarly, a milder start to winter for areas surrounding the Great Lakes won't dictate a lack of snow for the season as a whole. AccuWeather experts expect an above-average season snow total for Toronto, the nation's most populous city, which could arrive in a similar fashion as last year's winter when nearly 6 inches fell in mid-February.

Residents hoping for a white winter in those surrounding locations can be rooting for below-average ice coverage on the Great Lakes toward the end of the season. As of mid-October, water temperatures in the Great Lakes were above normal, particularly in Lake Ontario near Toronto.

According to SeaTemperature.info, water temperatures in Lake Ontario were hovering around 65 degrees Fahrenheit in the second week of October, significantly higher than in years past. In 2020, those water temperatures were as low as 54 degrees in some areas at this time.

"The Great Lakes snow belts are likely to get less lake-effect snow compared to normal during December and January," Anderson said. "But that may pick up by February with a possible increase in cold shots over mostly-open lakes."

Milder winter for Atlantic Canada, but conditions could change
La Niña won't be the only sea surface temperature influence on Canada this winter. Off the country's east coast, warmer-than-average water in the Atlantic Ocean will also play a character in the season's script.

The combination of the aforementioned storm track skewing north and west, along with very high water temperatures in the northwest Atlantic Ocean, will favor a milder winter with average snowfall in Atlantic Canada.

"This pattern will likely favor more cloud cover across eastern Canada this winter with more mild nights and less demand for heating," Anderson said. Later in the winter, however, many of these scenarios could be altered by changing conditions.

In February, a pattern change may favor an increase in snowfall for the Maritime provinces of New Brunswick, Nova Scotia and Prince Edward Island.

In terms of the possibility for coastal storms and nor'easters, Anderson warned that residents of Atlantic Canada will need to keep their guard up through February.

"The greatest threat for powerful coastal storms in Atlantic Canada will come in February," he said. "The clash of advancing cold air from the west with the abnormally warm waters of the northwest Atlantic may lead to some rapidly developing storms with a lot of wind and heavy precipitation from the Maritimes to Newfoundland."

Just stopping by to say Goodnight so... Good night Everyfriend.

GLORIA, what a nice thing for you Guy to do for you!  You'll be used to it in no time at all.

PATRICIA, sometimes when I read your postings, I feel like I'm back in school but I guess we're never too old to learn someting new.  Thanks for all the info!

Rammel, I hope whatever is depressing you goes away and hides under a rock so you can be happy again!  Maybe it's just part of the reaction to the shot and that WILL go away.

AMY, your tooth must be feeling better if you got all that baking done.  I'm afraid the baking is going to fall by the wayside around here.  I'm getting lots of stuff done but it's just normal everyday stuff.  Christmas is going to have to wait except for the two little ones in Oklahoma.

Christy is going home to Maryland for the weekend and my daughter Cathy will be here tomorrow and spend the night Saturday with me.  Then on Sunday, my son is going to hang out with me.  It's a long time since I spent a whole day with my son and I'm looking forward to it.

Now, I'm off to the haystack to search out some zzzzs.  I wish you all a peaceful night's sleep and a happy tomorrow.  And may God bless us, every one.

Running into town to pick up baking supplies then home to carry on with baking and laundry.

Jane, happy to read you are getting on ok and love the fact your family is helping you. I am so thankful for this dentist. She was fantastic, explained everything as she went along, mouth was a sore but not as much as I expected.

Gloria, by the time you read this it could be on your new computer!!

Patricia, this weather will soon change. We have had other years that there was no or very little snow then around Christmas look out!! A foot of snow in one falling is not unusual.

Rick hope today brings sunshine into your day. My booster is on the 7th and I hope I have no reaction to it.

Better get ready to meet the day..

Enjoy your day and stay safe.

We're still warn...55 right now and supposed to go to 72 this afternoon. But, the cold is coming back soon.

Rammel, sorry about the "blues" and the booster reaction.  Hope both are better today.  I didn't have a reaction of any kind to my booster shot.  That surprised me.  I expected at least a sore arm.

Hope the new computer works a lot better than the old one, Gloria.

Amy, I just was reading online about a good German bakery here in my town.  I think they will do any Christmas baking for us this Christmas.  I think my baking days are over with.

Jane, you are sounding good.  And, especially good that you will get out for a walk even if the weather turns cold.  I'm not so brave.  Haven't had the courage to walk outside even with my rollator yet.

Patricia,  interesting to read your posts.  Tells me a lot about a place I know little about.

Good morning, Lloyd.  I hear owls in our woods every now and then.

Breakfast time and I'm really late.  Take care, All.

Things looking better today. A good night's sleep is a big help. Arm still a bit sore but that's easily tolerable.
German Bakery reminded me. I like Stollen at Christmas (or any other time).  Love it, buttered, and with a nice hot cup of coffee. At one point years ago I made my own, and also fruit cake.  But those days are gone for ever.

Back in the days when I was growing up and my church was new we did all kinds of things to pay for the new church building.  My father was on the vestry and my mother was very active in anything that went on.  We had a Christmas bazaar every year and my mother made fruit cake the first year.  She made one batch which was about 14  one-pound cakes.  It flew out the door!  The next year she made 2 batches and it flew out the door!  By the time the bazaars were in full swing, my mother was making about 100 pounds of fruit cake and there was never any left over.

Long after my mother was gone, we "ladies of the church" began having Christmas cookie sales.  Someone ran across a newspaper article about the St. Andrew's Fruit Cake and mentioned it while we were baking cookies.  I said "that was my mother's fruit cake and I still have the recipe!".  And there we went again.  Long after the cookie sales were over, I was still making a batch of fruit cake and taking it to church on the last Sunday before Christmas to offer to anyone who wanted it.  All I asked is that they make a donation to their favorite church charity.  It went like hotcakes.

This is the first year that there will not be fruitcake in my house since I used to help my mother as a kid.  I'll miss it!

I hope everyfriend is having a good day!  Keep on keeping on!

Jane, I hope your girls have that recipe to pass down. Sadly, by the time I was interested in the recipes MY mother was known for, she didn't have them written down & when she tried, they were not the same. Nobody can make her cream pies or cream puffs (with a million eggs in them), or the other specialities. I got a kick out of Dad trying to tell my sister how to make his mother's & gr-mother's "Potato Pie", so every time she would try, it was "not quite right, maybe if you add...." so she would try again later on. It sounded delicious to me & I did buy a piece at a French restaurant here one time but it was NOT at all what I imagined. For sure not a French chef! At any rate, hope your recipe passes down and maybe the daughters & grands will show you they can be creative! Hugs...

Rick, I had to Google your Stollen.... my taste buds come from French & German ancestors but that's a new recipe to me. My bro-in-law came from long time German recipes and my sister learned to cook his fav foods. She made "lep" cookies but maybe I don't spell it right, I thought they were sort of molasses type & that had to be pounded or stretched, I know he helped her make them. My mother learned to cook from her French grandmother since her mother died when she was 7, and her father wasn't one to be in the kitchen. He had a French mother & German father. Foods can sure stir up memories, huh?

I've had a whole 'nuther day since starting this so time to grab a bite to eat & do a little maintenance on the hair & body. Also need to see what the weather is to be at 7:00am so I know what to wear to church. Cats are snuggled down for the night & I am SO sleepy. God Bless & sweet dreams to all.

Okay, hope Gloria's new computer is up & running AND she loves it!

Well, this was a "different" day!  Christy went home to Maryland this morning so she could go to a Christmas shindig with her husband tonight and Cathy has been here all day and is spending the night!  Tomorrow, my son, Phil will be spending the day with me!  That will be new and different.

SHIRLEY, I have the Fruit Cake recipe in 4 different places in my house but since none of my kids like it, I'm guessing that it's production will end with me.  There is also a copy of the recipe on file at the church but not too many people will know that!

I'm ready to hit the haystack and check it out for zzzzs.  Cathy and I watches "White Christmas" tonight.  For me, that's part of the ritual of Christmas.  It's one of my favorite movies and once I've watche that, I'm ready for Christmas.

I wish you all a peaceful night's sleep and a happy tomorrow.  And may God bless us, every one!

Oh, I wish I had a copy of White Christmas, so far haven't caught it on TV. Glad you are here to tell us Good Night, Jane!

Oh, wishing everyone a Happy St. Nick's Day... early, but we played fast & loose with when we celebrated & I was surprised Google agreed with me about "when".  We could put our stockings out with our letters to Santa Claus either the night before or night of... 5th ot 6th. We thought of it as our German holiday since the German cousins celebrated & the French ones didn't (their loss). We would get an orange, apple, nuts to crack & some small gifts like Old Maid cards, jump rope or jacks.

I made a batch of coleslaw today & gave it a taste test just now. YUM... When I put out a plea for a recipe years ago I got the same recipe from 4 people in here, living in different states so I figured it must be good. It is and I named it "4 state coleslaw".

Getting late & still need to trim my hair a tad before the shower... Night!

JaneS.
If that Fruitcake recipe is readily available and reasonably easy to be sent, I would like a copy of it. (if it's OK with you, of course). Who knows - some day I may get inspired.
Right now I've been surfing the net but playing some old 50's/60's music I found buried in my computer. There's 81 songs using about 35 MB and they're in a WMA format. If anyone wants I could try to send some or all . I doubt 35 meg would send, but I could break it up into smaller amounts.  I just have to remember where they are.

Good morning..

I think a waltz is in store...unless the sun warms up to melt the snow, which I doubt will happen.

Laundry dealt with and cherry cakes made along with 4 doz tarts. Just have some cookies and butter tarts and that is it...I think:)

Rick ,I can vouch for Janes fruit cake...DELICIOUS!!! My friend liked to make Christmas cakes and he made a lot when the word got out how good they were. He tried his hand at pastry but that just wasn't his style but his wife delighted in telling the tales of his tries.

Jane,I was all in but my shoelaces last night and hit the bed early. Today will be a great day to share with your son!!

Shirley, I have some of my Grandmothers recipes plus my Moms. Plus and old old hand written black book of recipes.

Phyllis, there does come a time to pass the apron on and if you find a good bakery then that is the way to go. We are thinking of passing on the wood heat here next year, getting to be too much and the oil although is easy it is not as nice.

Lloyd, good morning to you and Nancy..
Would love to see and hear an owl.

Gloria, hope there is not a lot of frustration on starting up your new computer.

Better scoot..
Enjoy your day and stay safe.

Good Morning Everyfriend!  Right now it's 36º out there heading for a high in the mid 40s.  Not too bad for a December day!

Rick, I'd be happy to share the fruit cake recipe and in case I forget, remind me.  I made a not but sometimes I overlook notes.

I slept well last night!  I'm back in my pre-surgury position and it feels great!

SHIRLEY, I had a German Grandfather who lived in the same house with us.  We also celebrated St. Nicholas Day but in our house you put out your shoe for goodies.  It was always an orange, an apple some cookies and a nickel.  One year I remember a quarter and my sister and I were ecstatic!  Back then, a quarter was a small fortune!

Gotta go get some breakfast!  They make me eat all the time because I still can manage a lot of food at one time!  And I have to get dressed before my son gets here!  I wish you all a good day...better than yesterday but not as good as tomorrow!

Good morning everyone, at last I am here. My grandson was here early yesterday and got me set up with a new Dell and I had to check everything out. Have yet to get Google in. Don't think I want to stick with the Microsoft Edge that is installed. Coming up with new passwords is a big pain in the neck for me. I was up till early this morning and of course slept late this morning. Now I am wondering if I can post here not have to sign in again. Just checked and I was here as guest, then went  and signed it again, that was one password I remembered. Oh yes this has the new Windows 11  and not really all installed, I read somewhere in here last night somethings were not ready yet. Already did an update after my grand set it up. Have not got to any email yet either. Smart guy, he took the hard drive out of that lemon and destroyed it and got rid of the lemon already.

JANE  just read about the nickel in your shoe and a couple of years ago at my son's on Christmas day my little one got a bank and i Knew i had a lot of change in my wallet so I asked him to show me his bank and gave him all the change. He was happy to start putting it in the bank when he picked up a quarter he said he liked the big ones, they were worth more. learning early. If I could get  to the bank I would ask about an old silver dollar for him.

SANDY  hope this is the last computer I have to learn where every thing is. Getting too old for new things.

AMY  last night or early this morning I had to get away from the new PC or scream. This morning i got here and that is what i really needed to do. Next is getting to email.

RAMMEL  my oldest son is the only one in the family who likes fruitcake so I order one from Swiss Colony for him every Christmas, a 3 pound one. I don't give it to him till Christmas because it would be gone by then. My Mom made fruitcake but I never cared for it.

Better get a move on, it is afternoon and i have not had breakfast yet.
Have a good day stay healthy and safe.

Good morning from an Interior that has warmed up to minus nineteen!  If you see someone, especially a guy running about in minus thirty-five temperatures in a hoody with shorts over sweatpants, it's probably an Alaskan in the Interior. Yesterday, the parking lots were prime viewing spots!

As usual, yesterday had several moments to remember. First was when I found a men's fleece-lined, red buffalo checked jacket shoved among the canned vegetables. I purchased it and received strange looks from the clerk, who mentioned someone had tried to remove the attached ink cartridge. I replied that may have been why it was shoved among the green beans. This was the same clerk who said, "Oh, you must be one of those vegetarians," after viewing my fruit and vegetable-laden cart. She acted surprised when I said no and didn't continue.

Then after arriving home, all five carts were missing from the entryway, and I waited 45 minutes for the elevator doors to open and reveal an unaccompanied cart for my groceries. While I was waiting, another tenant came in with my newly purchased, bagged coat and inquired if that was mine. It had fallen unnoticed while I lugged the others indoors.

Amy, I have several handwritten recipes from my mother and some self-published cookbooks from the Montrose, Colorado Ladies Grange. I also have the usual little wooden box of overflowing index cards from work or holiday parties, plus recipes from friends. Then there are a number of my own purchased cookbooks. I mention this because I don't think I've ever followed a recipe in my life. I've always wondered what if and away I've gone, down some good roads and some awful ones. My mother made some fabulous brandy-soaked fruitcakes, but I don't think any of us have attempted them.

I saw an owl once. It was a Great Northern Owl by the old railroad terminal and I swear that giant owl spun its head a full 350 degrees watching me. Somewhere there are old Instamatic photos of the event: my first and last close owl sighting.

Gloria, it sounds like you are doing well with your new computer! I have all my passwords written down in a small notebook, and all my old computers are reprogrammed and given to the guy at the local Literacy Council. He repurposes them and resells them for twenty dollars, befitting the Council.

I came home from church & the fund raiser for "one of the youth groups" of biscuits & gravy and slept until now, so better get my fannie in gear ... where did that expression come from??? Must be 50+ years since hearing that!!!  Weather bug says it is 64° & the sun feels good with the door open by me!

Gloria, I never have used Edge which was on this when I bought a few years ago. I do have a WordPad with "my life" (all passwords, dates, everything important) that I add to, update but never delete so don't bother printing. It is one of those chores I'll do tomorrow & have not done for years. Glad you are up & running. I couldn't get me signed in at one point and turned out Bubble fixed me and been okay since.

Rick, pork steak has become my fav meal lately. Not sure why but it was my father's fav and I HAVE to have applesauce with mine! I am picky about my applesauce & will only buy the Mussleman's. Someone told me they use the Golden Delicious apples so maybe it is true. When I fry an apple (yes, like fried potatoes) I only buy Goldens. In case you've never had them, I do peel the apples & cut them into slices like in a pie. I use a dab of butter in the bottom of a little skillet, lid on to keep moisture in & add a little water for them to simmer until they get that clear look, scant handfull of brown sugar & they go with the pork like applesauce. I got a package of pork steaks out of the freezer this week & had 3 meals of them. Turns out the cats loved bites, I share. ;) I like the pork steaks better than chops because they aren't as dry. My Dad lived to 95 and ate the fat on ham hocks so fat didn't hurt him. I do cut most off AFTER it's fried. End of cooking lesson.  :-[

Jane, I don't plan to make a fruit cake because I hear they are a lot of work, but never know. If I read your recipe I might give it a try. Yesterday I dug out the food processor to run a head of cabbage thru (twice for finer slaw), and ate a bowl full before going to bed, tasted SO good. Took my son a ZipLoc tub this morning & his mouth was almost watering. His wife doesn't care for my kind, she likes the mayonnise kind. Back to my point.... I sure wouldn't mind if you posted your recipe in here & I'll copy & name it "Jane's"

Patricia, we have an owl that lives somewhere around here, I hear it at night when I have the sliding door open. Have never seen it so no clue what kind. Your coat sounds neat. I have bought a few things that the dye pacs leaked & never found anything to remove the stain. One time I took acrylic paints & used a small bottle of "textile medium" to mix with the colors & spounged spots of different colors all over, washes fine & I liked the way that shirt fit. My grade school teacher called me "Mopsy" from a cartoon character that found ways to fix anything. Not sure why it seemed the thing to do, but as a WWII kid, we never threw anything away unless there was no hope for it.

Amy, if you haven't tried applesauce with pork you haven't lived!  For true! And it was Margaret O'Brian that used that expression in the movie "A Journey for Margaret" with Robert Young. I Googled & thought it was Bing Crosby played the male lead, not so~~ She was such a good little actress.

And now I've stalled long enough, time to put up outside decorations, eat & work on that painting.

Shirley, I like applesauce with my pork. Be it chops or roasts the applesauce is there. I also like taking the rind of the pork roast, scoring it with a sharp knife and cooking the fat out of it till it is crispy!!  I know......not good for you but oh so tasty!!

Lightly snowing here now  29° and we are under a weather watch...snow then rain......oh boy.

Amy It amazing  how somengthing someone else, makes you think of somengthing else someyon says. you talked about the skin or rne. when I was a teanager, My grand Pearents still butcherd acouple big fat hogs. sugar cured the Hams sholders and Bacon slabs. they would scald and scrape them, and we would get some of the crackliens blow on them and cool them down and eat them while we were rendireing the Lard' we would also griend the sausage and make sausage  Patties and fry them almost done and Layer them in a big ston jar/crock. and then grandma would lift the lid off reach down there and get some hands full of lard ans sausage Patties, put them in the skillet and fenish cooking them, and crumbel a couple them and make sausage gravey. and have either home made white or corn bread. I still make sausage gravey and corn bread.dosent help my waste line but sure taest gooood. think about it and Make sone,If you like you can take that skin and cut it up in little bitey peices and fry it down and Make some crackliens.

received the Fruitcake Recipe and have it safely tucked away, and one printed out.

The "Pork chop experiment" is done, and done. Son & I had the chops and of course apple sauce. To be correct had some peas and carrots also.  We both still feel well so I guess it all worked out OK.
Salted & peppered. Had no onions so used some onion powder.  I did them in a fry pan with a little butter for 5 min on each side - (till nicely browned). Added Celery soup (don't like mushrooms) mixed with a cup of milk, Covered (still in the pan) and simmered for an hour on stove burner. Worked out pretty good. Tender and tasted good. --- and we're both still alive and well.
Thanks for the prior guidance.

All this talk of food made my stomach growl and the worst part is, even if I had it here, I wouldn't be able to eat it.  Swallowing is still hard and small bites of chopped up "stuff" works best.  Oh well!  Time will pass and the meals will improve.

I'm off to the haystack!  My son and I had a good day together.  We both wondered when the last time was that we spent a whole day together.  And we decided that we need to do it more often.

PATRICIA, I liked all the pictures!  Thanks for sharing.

I wish you all a peaceful night's sleep and a happy tomorrow!  And may God bless us, every one!

I can hear the orchestra getting ready to play for my first waltz  of the year.. Just hope it is a waltz and not a jitterbug!! Stuck my head out the door and hear that the neighbour has started his waltz.

Will just see how the day goes after the dance..

Patricia, beautiful plants and some are in flower, shame that no one sees them now.

Rick, way to go on your meal...sounds good to me.

Jane, you are going to have to have a "date" each week with your son.

Better get my dancing duds on and see how it is out there.

Good morning everyone, took me almost as long to get here today as yesterday. I did get my gmail set up and thought I had Google set but this morning it is back to microsoft windows or whatever you want to call it. I have used Google for quit e a few years mainly because for me it is easier to understand. I hate to call my grandson again and ask him to come back. I tried to import my contacts but did not work and I had to change my email  name. did not like the one I used for years. At least that is on my cellphone so until everyone gets the new one I will get email on the cell and I so dislike the cellphones. I made my 3 happy getting one for emergencies so when power or Cox is out I can let them know I an OK.I think my grand was in a hurry Saturday because he usually never leaves till he makes sure I know what and where I am on a different PC or writing tips down in a notebook he started when he first got me going 20 years ago on a wornout old IBM that was my son's first one and that my grand took to college his first year. He needed a better one because he was studying computers.AMY  it is good to get back here to the SS. This is my second home I believe.PATRICIA  I have my passwords written, too, but this one does not like them. I so dislike coming up with new ones that for me would be something I could remember. Grand has always taken my old ones, he has a friend who rebuilds them and donates them.SHIRLEY  like you once I could not get in, all of a sudden my password was needed and then it did not like it. I emailed Bubble and she fixed me up again with the same password. I am fuusy about my applecauce but bought Mott's my family did not like Musslemans. I make my own with diferent varieties of apples and flavors blend and tasty, like it smooth too, no lumps. My son gave me some he made this year and I asked how he ruined it, he flavored it with different spices=NG=and it was lumpy. He said he was just experimenting. I tried frying apples like you have told us before but that is not for me. Remember what they called Margret O"Brian? Crying O"Brian. Remember how in every movie she cried?LLOYD  when I was young I remember my mother baking a roast pork and my sist er and I used to fight for that crisp fat when Mom took it out of the oven, that  sure was tasty.PATRICIA  you have some beautiful plants anso many. The lady who took care of the ones in tthe community room is no longer wirth us and looks like no one is bothering to take care of them. I only have 5 now and none doing too good. Get the sun in late afternoon when it is so hot and the plants don't like it anymore than I do. When I moved here I gave most to both my DIL'sRAMMEL  your porkchops sound tasty.JANE  I enjoy spending time alone with each son and the last few weeks they have both been here Saturday mornings together, I enjoy that, too. Now if only my daughter was close enough to be here.AMY  you do have good neighbors.Have a good day  be healthy and safe.[/list]

A good Monday HELLO to EVERYFRIEND 🎄

GLORIA, so happy your grandson got your new computer installed.  I understand it is frustrating when you have todo so much to get everything set up and running.

PATRICIA, thank you for sharing the pictures of your flowers.  I would delight in just sitting in that room enjoying the aroma and view‼️

JANE, what a wonderful thought about spending the day with your son. As sorry as I am that you have been through this procedure, having your family there to take care of you has been delightful 🥰🥰

RAMMEL, I can understand totally your feeling down ....many of have had such a sad personal loss this year.  That and in my case, I am dealing with the awful outcome of my fall last March.  I can not help but feel down at the drop of a hat, and yet I am so very blessed to have so many loved one and friends that CARE and want to help me through this.  Our world situation is such that on a daily basis I feel I could just sit down and cry me a bucket full of tears😩😢
I am just pleased that you are posting to us and sharing what you are cooking, etc.🥘.  Your pork meal sounded like it was a hit‼️

My best to you all....enjoy your Monday.

Jenny, - Thanks for those words.  Got me thinking a bit, which is probably good.  S&F is pretty much my world now. Other than my son there is no family here, and because of past life conditions I have become fairly inactive.  Physically I can no longer do the things I once did (as is so with most of us) and so the things I no longed do leaves me with "Vacant" days. I've been encouraged to find a Senior Center" around here which would give me some contact with the rest of the world --- likely a good idea.  Quit sogging and get off my butt.
We're still working on all the legal stuff that needs to be done. Today I dealt with Credit Card people. - Oh what fun  :smiley6600:
AOL messing with my email program said I had to re-register in order to continue using my verizon email accounts. I did as they said ----- but lost all of my old emails in the process. So a lot of important information is down the drain. Thank you Verizon/aol.
Luckily there were three chops cooked last night. So tonight I will have a repeat performance,  They turned out better than I expected but could have used a bit more seasoning.  Mt son says we should do it again.
Enough bla bla bla.
Thanks to all here for the support you all give.  Worth it's weight in gold.

Rick, when Cas died more than 8 years ago, I had no idea what was ahead. I choose to be happy so do my griping in here to get it out of my system and put on a good face/front for the world around me. We have more in common in this place and I do more than my share of whining, but that's what "family" is for. Senior & Friends really is family in my world.

I'm running out of steam tonight. Started way too early & no rest all day. Once I get into a painting it's hard to turn off the brain & sleep. Same if I'm reading a book, gotta get that last page read even if up all night. I'll take a photo of the painting tomorrow & how different it will look finished. It's a long way from finished but think the eyes are done. I keep popping up with jobs, such as how to get the drafting table top raised higher. No room to bring an easel to this room & this is where I always did my painting (kitchen/family room). I will see if uTube can show me how to, have the directions in the drawer but couldn't make sense out of them.

Phone calls so the computer goes to sleep & it's going to lose this if I don't post fast.... Sweet dreams to all and God Bless...  :christmastree:

I'm ready for the haystack.  My eyes have already entered slam shut mode and I'm having a lot of trouble keeping them open.  So I think I'll just give up and go to bed!

We watched "It's a Wonderful Life" tonight and I still love it!  Now I have 2 of my Christmas special movies in and tomorrow night we'll try to watch "Miracle on 34th Street".  That's my third one.

Now I'm heading for the zzzzzs.  I wish you all a peaceful night's sleep and a happy tomorrow.  And may God bless us, every one!

Good Morning to myself and anyone else who appears!  I slept well but I had to get up early.  I can't stay in bed when I'm fully awake in the morning.

The temp was down into the high 20s overnight but it's up to 32 now and heading for a high of only 36 today.  Overnight tonight we're supposed to get a bit of snow but not much is predicted.

I wish you all a good day...better than yesterday but not as good as tomorrow!

Good morning...

Chilly here, with a temp of 11° and thankfully the high winds have died down.
This morning I get my 3rd shot and then the Mr wants to go get cheese and chocolate.  We will meet up with Bri and give her some decorations that I no longer put up.

Rick ,I think we all have things we once could do and can't now. Not what we wanted but younger folks can do it much easier and learn while doing them. Once I could (long long time ago) Throw a 100lb bag of horse feed over my shoulder, walk down the feed aisle to the grain bins. I can't do that anymore and if and that is  big IF I could get the bag up I would go butt over tea kettle doing so! You have earned this time, enjoy it in other ways.

Gloria, you amaze me at what you can do on the computer!! We are blessed with fantastic neighbours here.

Patricia, I see our Christmas cactus has a bloom on it..I also bought a white  one and it is loaded with buds.

Shirley, can't wait to see your painting!

Jenny,if these are our golden years I am not fond of them!! Give me silver, brass, copper anything but this!!

Jane, enjoy your day and take it easy if you can. :)

Lloyd, love the pork fat once it has been fried to a crisp in the oven.

Better get moving.

Enjoy your day and stay safe.

Good morning, seventeen degrees here and still snowing, but only a combined inch expected for yesterday and today. Tomorrow's high will slide back down to plus four. I have things needed downtown but only want to snuggle on the couch today.

There are so many things I can no longer do. I can't lift an entire pot of coffee without the carafe shaking, and I place all pills after having someone open them for me into containers with easy on and off lids. This happened after a jarring fall on black ice in November 2014. Afterward, I had fallen too many times and purchased a MedicAlert. My left leg, which I hurt last February, is noticeably weaker if I overdo it or in bouts of osteoporosis.

Before I used to walk everywhere and in all types of weather; at one time, I walked ten miles each way to work to save thirty dollars a month and enjoy being out, and it made the petty misfortunes at work bearable. Then there was the absolute joy of being out the camera in hand, at the sanctuary, spring through fall, documenting the flowers, birds, and once or twice a wolf or a moose. There were bears known to be around, but I never came close to any other than a once or twice, back of the neck, hair lifting, uneasiness.

Now I live in an independent senior building, with many amenities and services I couldn't do independently. A case in point, carry out the garbage and lift it up and over into a large outside container. It's so much easier to walk down the hall and open a door in the wall and drop the secured bag through.

Amy, due to Farrah,  all of my plants sit on an eight-foot-tall lighted shelf.  Mostly philodendrons, succulents, and a few wandering vines and pothos. So, I enjoy seeing the plants through the windows in our community rooms. That hospitality committee is overworked but thoroughly appreciated. Even with most events shuttered, they still find enough to do and never enough helpers.

Quickie: Had a call from Gloria & she can't get in her computer!  I thought about her this morning when mine gave me fits. Mine did an update overnight and Microsoft wanted to take over my world with forcing me to use Edge? ... but I found a place to click back to NOT NOW, so will have to face that later.  I wondered if it screwed up Gloria's and sure nuff, something did. She said might be until the week end before her gr-son can find the problem. She tried every password she could think of but nothing worked. Okay, let's all say a prayer because computers can be our best friend or worst enemy and she doesn't deserve this! Mine is driving me crazy today, every time I stop to think the curser disappears. Not nice to mess with old ladies, right, girls?

I'm lucky to have a granddaughter who hangs around my house and knows about computers.  She gets me out of a lot of messes.

It's been a busy day and we got a lot done.  Tomorrow, I'm going to have my first real shower as opposed to a "sit on a chair and hand wash" job!  And then I'm going to have my first outing.  Christy and I are going to WM to look for a Christmas present for my Great Granddaughter and a birthday present for my youngest granddaugher.  Her birthday is the 18th.  My dad died on December 18th and she came along 9 years later to fill the void!  My DIL was here the day before and she was having slight labor pains.  I told her she wouldn't have that baby until the next day because Daddy Wright was up there holding her and his plan was to let go to replace him.  And I was right!

Now I have to hit the haystack before my eyes enter slapshut.  The physical therapy guy signed off on me today.  He says I don't need his help.  I'm doing fine!  Good news.  Now I wish you all a peaceful night's sleep and a happy tomorrow.  And may God bless us, every one!

Mycheal, I'm glad to hear your version, my daughter called & said the same while ago, that we either play their game OR we don't get to play. Sad day when company MONOPOLIES can force us to use what they want or cut us off. Right now I do not have the energy to fight so will go along (meekly?).... such a strain for this rebel!  :-\

I'm off to bed early (for me), no nap again today & the 4-5 hours sleep is not enough. I do have to get some decorations up or haul them back to the basement. Not sure anyone will be in my house over the holidays so only a few things going up inside. I started thinking about having the neighborhood ladies over for a "Christmas in July" gathering since we have several new families & hard for anyone to gather at Christmas time. I never got everything done/cleaned up to set up a Christmas table and then Covid still on the rampage so here it is REALLY Christmas & the house is no more ready than in July! Ah, well, maybe next year.

For tonight, sweet dreams and God Bless All. Praying for all in pain, whether it is physical pain or the mental abuse from Microsoft.  :christmastree:

I went to check on Tom, he wanted to go to my bedroom after they had their last meal while ago. He has not had an "accident" for several days since I've allowed him to sleep in my room & use the litter box in there, BUT tonight he didn't get all the way in the box & left a puddle on the carpet under it so I had a nice mess to clean up. Then that gave Callie time to head to the utility room where she left a puddle beside the litter box so I let her go on outside for a while (better than yelling at her). Got that mess cleaned up & let her back inside and she did it again. It is too cold to make them stay outside, I just don't have the heart to let them suffer and they do know where it is warm. :banghead:  :noway:

Always nice to have good news to end the day, thank you, Jane, and a happy tomorrow to you!

Morning everyone!

I woke my computer this morning to a bunch of nonsense from MS again. I said no to all. I am quite happy not using or hooking up to Alexa or there productivity package (which puts all your work on the cloud. I don't use either, nor do I have a smartphone or want my devices synced with Windows. Don't want, don't use.

The second Windows gives me fits that I can't readily fix, I install Ubuntu instead. I like using Linux, but there are two programs I like much better than the offerings through Linux programs that have kept me ending up back with Windows. So I put up with Windows as long as they allow me to change my settings to my preferences. I absolutely refuse to go to Windows 11, which is mostly enhanced for productivity, gaming and watching movies via the internet. I prefer watching my movies and various streaming offerings via my HDTV to using my computer.

Good morning..

Another chilly start to the day here..

Long day yesterday starting off with my 3rb booster shot then onto Choco factory and then to do a bit of shopping. We hit the cheese factory on the way .

Not sure what today will bring, know that I need to do more baking so that may be in order.

Gloria, I do hope you get everything running in your puter today.

Shirley, I dislike updates and yes if you don't do them you do pay the price in more frustration. I liked Windows XP and wish they left that alone. If it ain't broke don't fix it.

Jane, have fun today  enjoy your outing!!

Lloyd, hope you found more zzz's to please. :)

Phyllis ,hope all is well there.

Patricia, we are to get rain this weekend , We will be spinning around like a button on an outhouse door if we are not careful where we walk!!

MarsGal, I don't even want a smart TV , it is said that "people" can spy on you through it. I don't know if that is true or not but just know it doesn't appeal to me.

Better get moving

Enjoy your day and stay safe.

Good morning to everyfriend who has posted and everyfriend who arrives later.  I'm another one who doesn't like the updates but they are inevitable so I guess we learn to live with them or throw the computer in the river!

I'm really looking forward to our outing today!  And to doing some of my own shopping.  I wish you all a good day...better than yesterday but not as good as tomorrow!

Jane, I've been wondering if my computer will float... that Arkansas River is close enough to toss it in!  Cold this morning but wind doesn't look bad, only a few leaves left on the sweet gum tree and no leaves at all on trees down by the river. Winter has arrived in KS!

The outings sound like fun, I'm even going out on several errands this morning. I completely forgot about Christmas cards and only send out a few but need to get some new one... the last box had enough to use 2 or 3 years so pretty sure the people will remember if they get the same again this year! :P  :-[

Got my property tax bill (choke-choke). When will the government realize the few of us still paying taxes can't afford all their spending?  Glad my house insurance doesn't come due right not, understand that has gone thru the roof because cost of materials is so outrageous. Such is life and we've seen the gouging before during our lifetimes, right?

Got a pic of the dog portrait but will have to send to Bubble to resize, if she will. It is a long way from finished but think the eyes are about done, will add lashes & fur around when a little dryer & a lot of dabs here & there. The chest fur is only "blocked in for color" but will need complete make over before I'm done. I'm still not sure the background colors are clear in my mind, the teal or aqua is a color used throughout their house but want more neutral for long term. Actual background is too busy for a painting. Still have one more to paint before Christmas & I can't paint at night like long ago. My eyes start burning but biggest problem is sleep sets in. Forgot how this works.  ;)

Yes, we all have computer issues...including Amazon.  Ours is nothing compared to what happened to them yesterday when their computers shut down temporarily.  And, that affects far more serious issues than my personal computer/data. I actually felt kind of sorry for the headaches their tech. people must be going through.  It's a lot scary to think how much we, and the world, is controlled by computers.  It's a sci-fi movie come to life.

I've been really busy.  End-of-year things to be taken care of before deadlines pass, as well as Christmas to think about and getting things back in smooth running order after being in the hospital and out-of-touch for awhile.  I get a little frazzled and feel like I'll never get things back in order.  I know it just takes time but for right now, I feel like I'm just stomping out one fire when another one pops up.

Glad to hear good news...that helps things seem better.  Sorry to hear bad news and can only send wishes that things will improve and life will look good again.  But, for now, I'm running late again and still not caught up with my "things that have to be done" list.  So, I'll just say,

Take care, All.

Good morning, eleven degrees in the Interior with light snow.

All so-called "smart devices" spy on you through chance, company design, or arrangements with either a security company or through law enforcement. All of them. Google is familiarly known as spyware as it collects and saves every keystroke and sells the info to advertisers while protecting against outsiders trying to do the same.

The day has come to an end and it was a cold one.  The temp never got above 34.  We were supposed to have snow flurries but I never saw any snow.  Frankie said it was flurrying on her way home from work.

Our outing was very successful today.  I found the gift I wanted for Emma (My GGranddaughter in OK) and I got a nice birthday card and a gift card for Kiran (My youngest Granddaughter) Her birthday is the 18th.  We stopped at the local candy store and got lollipops for both the Greats.  Since I'm not making candy this year, this was the next best thing.  This is a local candy maker that's been in business since 1907 and they're great.  Then we hit the Farmer's market and got some good haddock filets.

When we got home we wrapped the Air Fryer that I got for Frankie for Christmas, The package I got for Emma and then we boxed the stuff that has to go to Okla.  Tomorrow we'll take it to the UPS store and it'll be on the way.

I had a nap this afternoon and then after supper we watched "Christmas in Connecticut" starring Barbara Stanwyck and Dennis Morgan and bunch of other old timers.  It's another one of my all time favorites!  And now it's time to hit the haystack before my eyes enter slamshut mode.

I wish you all a peaceful night's sleep and a happy tomorrow.  And may God bless us, every one!

Thursday already.....PT in a couple of hours!  Sun is shinning nice and bright today.  It was dreary all day yesterday, but the possibility of any moisture flew by the wayside 😩 This time of the year there are always the beautiful snowy peaks to look at towards the mountains and what little we had is now gone.....so concerning. This Friday they are predicting that there will be measurable snow for Denver.

Too many interruptions, so my time is up.

Hi Everyfriend!  We had another productive day today.  Took all the packages that needed to be mailed to the UPS store and then made a stop at Country Cupboard (this is a restaurant and gift shop combined and they have good food and beautiful things to buy)  We didn't eat but we did buy a couple things.

Then the visiting nurse was by in the early afternoon. And she decided that she doesn't need to come back every week and my next visit will be Dec. 29th.  She remarked that I'm doing so well and I look so much better than I did last week.  So I guess we're making progress.  And I walked down to the corner by myself to get the mail.

JENNY, I always associate snow-capped mountains with Colorado.  That's one thing my Girl Scouts loved when we were there in the summer!  I hope your shoulders are feeling better every day and that you are being careful of them.

SHIRLEY, your so good to the kitties that I'm sure they love you the best that kitties can love.  Also, I remarked how much I like your doggie painting over where it's posted but just in case you didn't see it,  I love it!

My very best to all of you!  Keep on keeping on!

Good Morning, AMY and anyone else who pokes his/her head in here today.  We have another busy day coming up and then tomorrow, Christy will be going home.  The nurse said yesterday that I can do days on my own and Frankie is going to spend the nights with me.  My local son and daughter will be checking in and if I know my daughter, she'll be checking in often.

There's still a lot of numbness in my jaw but the swelling has gone down considerably.  My next dr. appt isn't until the 18th so I guess I'll find out then what to expect next.

ANY, enjoy your dance!  But don't let your partner tire you out!

I wish Everyfriend a good day...better than yesterday but not as good as tomorrow!

I received my 23&Me report today. They're more comprehensive in locations than Ancestory but only showed minor health conditions. I don't want to join for $29.00 yearly to get more comprehensive.

Unsurprisingly, I'm 99.8 European, including 97.7 Northwestern European, including 53.0% Ireland, and Wales. 35.2 Germany and Switzerland, Scandinavian 2.8%. The remainder is broad, trace amounts, Southern European.

We're at nine degrees and expecting five inches of snow this weekend, maybe interesting if we see snow.

Jane, good news!  :)

Amy, no snow removing for me; I'm glad someone else does that these days; I'd probably never get past a few feet!  :-\  :-[

Snow is cleared up for now, more snow/rain on the way  with high winds. Power may go out but we are fine with the generator to hook up. Friends came and we enjoyed the visit so now I had better get the pastry rolled out for tarts. These will be filled and baked tomorrow as I am running out of steam :(

Patricia, this was a light snow but where the plow pushed it ,it was difficult to move. After rain tomorrow it may be smaller and softer to move.

Back to the kitchen..

Good Morning Everyfriend!  It's going to be a special day today.  Christy will be packing up to go home and Frankie and I are both going to miss her something fierce!  But life goes on and I really think I'm ready to continue on my own.  I got the word from Frankie last night.  She made me promise to call her if I need ANYTHING!  And we agreed that Cooper could still come here when she works but she'll do all the walks because I'm not into long walks yet.  But the yard is fenced and he can go out whenever he needs to.

AMY, I can't imagine how big that puppy will be when she's full grown!  Sounds like David likes BIG doggies!  I think I'll try to make my cookies on Sunday!  That's the only baked goods I'll be doing this Christmas.  Now I wonder where I stowec the cookie cutters?

LLOYD you keep on keeping on!  Don't do anything too hard and enjoy what you're doing.  Tell Nancy I said Merry Christmas to her!

Good Morning,

Amy, Callie is fine.  We're actually in a drought situation across the state and under a fire watch. There have been some bad ones across the flatter plains of western Oklahoma.

I've been reading but not posting because the last time I posted a lengthy "recital" of a Good Week, the very next post wondered "where everybody is".  I decided mine didn't count so deleted it.

Hope Everyfriend in the eastern time zone remains safe without damage.

 :hugs: to all.

Good morning everyone, yep for now I am back-who knows for how long. My poor grandson has had a time getting this new Dell to where it was where I was OK with it. Except for a Mac is there any way to get away from Microsoft and windows? My oldest son now has a Mac, got it over a year ago now. I do not have the money one of those costs. Biggest problem all week was passwords. No matter if it was one I had here or a new one to get email or anything none would work. I do finally have a new keyboard. Had trouble getting in here this morning, once again my password was rejected then suddenly seemed to be OK. Will know when I can post or not. About now I think  my grandson is sorry he ever got me going with that old IBM that was my son's first PC. Of course this has the new 11 installed, I am so used to 10 and this is different in the way things are set on the desktop. Foggy here and damp, cannot get warm.
I called Yvette a few days ago, she is doing pretty good and going to PT twice a week

JANE  I have you phone number saved on a folder on the computer and should have put it in my address book. Only one I had to call was Shirley's. Only way I could let everyone know I was OK just VERY frustrated.

SHIRLEY  you make me happy I no longer have a cat or a dog. I no longer have the energy to take care of either one.

MARSGAL  you sound like me. A week  trying to get  used to a new PC that will do the opposite to what I WAS USED TO and driving my grandson crazy. His job is working with computers and he will only help his dad-my son-and me. I only call him when I am at wit's end. I have noticed the things for gaming and watching movies. Not interested in either.

AMY  Thursday morning I woke to a dusting of snow. Was on the cars, roofs and grassy areas. Looked pretty but was gone a few hours later. Like you XP worked great and I got used to 7. I seemed to remember them saying no more new ones after 10-just updates. I have a Smart TV my older son bought me when I moved here. If it  is spying on me it really is not seeing anything.

Grrrr I keep getting things popping up on here and have to move things to get rid of what "they' want me to do. Leave me alone!!

BUBBLE THANKS FOR THE RIDE TO PHOTOS

SHIRLEY  beautiful art on what you have done on the dog.

JANE  wish I could watch Christmas in Conn. again. Always liked Barbara Stanwick and Dennis Morgan. He had a wonderful singing voice, too, besides being handsome.

My son just left after his weekly visit, I really look forward to that. When I lived in the apartment in his house he came upstairs every day when he got home from work.

JANE  great you got good news from the nurse. Just what  you and all of us like hearing.

AMY  a close neighbor of my daugher and SIL in Arizona offered then a great pyrenees that had pups and wanted to give them one. They have a Chuhuahua and that little horse-oops dog would have the poor little thing in it's mouth.

Think I read all the posts but did not reply t o everyone. This will be the last time I go through getting a new computer set up. I think my grandson would tell me to find someone else to help me. I think I am getting too old to learn another computer.

My DIL's younger sister is a teacher, had all the vaccine shots and has been in the hospital a few weeks with a bad case of covid.

CALLIE  guess I was not here to reply to you

Have a good day, be healthy and stay safe.

So far it looks like all that bad weather is heading North east, but West of us. A bit inland. It is wet and nasty out and Gale warnings. But supposed to clear off later.

Gloria, - Somewhere I saw that Win-11 was oriented toward "gaming and watching movies" (Streaming). As with you, that is low on my priority list.
Someone in the tech world should realize that not everyone wants to keep re-learning about new programs. AOL just did something with email and I lost all the saved emails I had - like receipts and ordering info - lots of other useful stuff.  >:(
So, --- the idea that computers are going to save all that paper work we used to have, it is just adding to it by requiring us to back up on something (paper) that you can grab and run with. "A bird in the hand ....... )

Good morning, we're at zero in the Interior and expecting more snow. I am so sorry about this weekend's latest series of death and destruction. Amid climate change, its become the new normal. Besides my computer friends, I have other friends and relatives all through those areas mentioned.

Amy, I'd love to drop in for some of that soup; it sounds lovely in this weather we're having! You have to excuse me, but the first thing I thought of re your son's new buddy was "David and Goliath!"  :)  They might need to start looking for a giant bed!

Jane, I'm glad you'll have Cooper for company; you have been outstanding in your recovery, and so has your loving family.

I'm hoping Gloria's nephew will be able to get her back on track and back posting again!

Good morning Lloyd, I'm glad to see you have good weather.

Good morning, Callie, and I'm glad you're safe. I read the terrible weather news and texted and read texts from friends and family in the stricken areas. So far, so good with only a few minor injuries due to after-effects rather than the storms. I'm afraid this is becoming the new norm.

I'm one who regularly posts long messages, and I go with it.

It's nice that you and your son were spared the lousy weather, Rick. I agree about new computer systems. I deal with multiple photographs, graphic files, and folders and try to keep as much as possible off the computer. I read long ago that you need to have some free, perhaps a third, memory for optimal use.

I have two 4T external drives—one for a PC mirror record and one simply for my graphics. They are only plugged in during use, so they're safely unplugged and tucked away if some virus or disaster occurs. I can't emphasize how often I've been thankful for that.

It is so lovely to see your post, Gloria! I have two older email addys for you, and an even older phone number which I'm sure is no longer working.

Gloria, hope you have no more problems.

Callie, I don't respond to all posts as there is always something or someone that needs my attention. I do enjoy reading your posts  and hearing about your day.

Patricia, that is a great analogy! He now has two Danes. He had to say goodbye to Cole who was way taller than Skye so now back to two dogs. I can't wait to meet Luna.

Lloyd, read or scroll back there have been posts to read.

Tea time......better go pour. :)

I got home and on the newse was the  devastaion of it. I found out the next day, a over Pas fellon top of severial cars, and the perison that Had taken me to the airport was crushed to death under one of them. I called my sister In Law and got through, she told me that there apartment bulding was still standing wit minor damage to it. But other ones fell completely dow on all four sides of them with fatritalys In them. and another time by abbyville Kansas I was working for a farmer there, I was plowing in the field just south of there house. that area is Layed out in one Mile setiond. On the setion south east coner of the one across the road from the one I was working in was a smll Barn. the tarnado on  the ground took that barn lifted it stright uo in tackt but about 2-3oo ft in the air it came apart looked like no two biard was tagather. Hello Everyfriend!  I hope you ALL had a good day!  Mine was very busy again.  I'm here alone now but everyone is checking on me by text and I have to stop whatever I'm doing and let them know that I'm OK or they'll coming in my door!  I'm very lucky to have them all and I'm lucky that I didn't have to go to a nursing home when I left the hospital.

We're supposed to have strong winds tonight but so far it hasn't amounted to much.  I'm very tired tonight and my eyes have headed for slam shut mode already.  I think I'll head for the haystack early.  I wish you all a peaceful night's sleep and a happy tomorrow.  And I wish you all no bad storms!  And may God bless us, every one!

Good morning...

Thankfully the wind has died down! Power went out at 5:30 pm and didn't come back on till 10:00 pm here. Apparently there are still places without power.

A day of rest here...need to make some masks for a girl and that is about it. Have ribs to slow cook along with asparagus and whipped potatoes. Apple pie for dessert will top off the meal.

Jane,a new beginning for you having the house to yourself. Everything is falling back into place...just take it easy.

Rick, we have seen the devastation on the news. The candle factory was a pile of rubble!! Seems this year there is one disaster after another.

Jenny, most of our snow was chased y the rain yesterday. now it is an out door skating rink in places!

Lloyd, you are a lucky man to escape the tornados!

Enjoy your day and stay safe.

Good Morning Everyfriend!  I was up at 6 a.m. this morning and got dressed, put the coffee on and made the bed.  We were supposed to have high winds over night but I don't think it happened.  I didn't hear it and nothing seems out of place in the neighborhood.  That's good news.  I'm sorry for all the ones who suffered from the tornadoes and the bad weather.  I wish them a speedy recovery!

My Sunday paper hasn't arrived yet.  It's always later than the dailys and it throws off my schedule.  I had a good night and I'm looking forward to a good day today.  I think Frankie and Cooper are coming over this afternoon.  She said she'd be back to do my floors.  Her mother vacuumed everything before she left but Frankie will wash the bare ones.

AMY, be sure to take your ice skates when you go out.  With all those "skating ponds" it's a sure thing!

LLOYD, you watch that BP.  Try to keep it down in the safe zone.  I know how hard that can be.  Do you take meds for the BP?  I do! And that reminds me...I haven't taken it this morning!

RICK, I'm interested in your theories about the weather problems.  I'll await your posting of them.

I wish you all a good day...better than yesterday but not as good as tomorrow.

QuoteRICK, I'm interested in your theories about the weather problems.  I'll await your posting of them.
Since school many years ago I've heard that energy can neither be created or destroyed, but converted.  Of late many, many, windmills have been erected.  Windmill farms arrived. These all take energy from the wind and convert it to electricity and it's associated heat (friction and that developed in the conversion).  That energy is taken from the WIND. Slowing winds and reducing it's force.Interfering with the weather patterns due to wind speed and reduced force. The weather patterns vary from what was in the past. What would that cause?  Who knows?
Never wrote this up before but it gives the general idea.

Good morning everyone, at least for another half hour. Had one of those nights I could not sleep so when I finally did around 5am I woke at almost 11. Most of those sleepless hours I was trying to learn something about this PC. So many thing pop up telling me about this or that to make sure I can do this or that. Things anyone who has ever used a PC already knows. At least this PC has not froze up yet and it starts good.

RAMMEL  I was busy uninstalling things like that gamebox or whatever it is called.
the games I like on the PC are MahJong and Jigsaw puzzles, rather watch movies on TV, bigger than any PC monitor. I seem to have more paper to shred these days.

PATRICIA  my grandson sure gets me on track when I have computer problems. I think I cause most of the problems. I like to know where everything is. like how to change the color and size of the arrow, I like black and big enough to see. While doing that I might see something that gets my attention and click to see what  it is--there I go messing up again. I have a 2T external where I save things I want to save, do not keep it plugged in and have so many graphics and all the things from PSP on it and not even half full. The first external I had is full and have a lot of the stories Bis/Joan used to post. Hmm just thinking, this Dell has so many unused ports maybe I could plug the old one in and check it out. Right now I have one email address, since Yahoo got rid of the PSP groups I got rid of that  one and also the cox one Old phone number is just that from when I lived in the apartment in my son's house. I do have a cellphone that family has but no one else. Only got that one for when Cox service is out again, cannot change from Cox in these buildings.

AMY  love that linkand the song. I sure am trying to be careful what I click on on the PC still have some things I want to download. I think if my grandson had more time he could have transferred things from the HP lemon. Now I have to go hunt for some and download again. Wow My Mom would sing When I grow too old to dream to tease my Dad. Sure brings back memories.

LLOYD  that earthquake you missed the engineer where I worked was out there and just left for the east coast when it hit. Like you he was lucky to leave when he did.

JENNY  my grandson is used to setting up a new business with computers. The company he works for has sent him overseas to set up companies in other countries.

JANE  I am glad you had family there so you could go home. I know when I was  in a "rehab"/nursing home back in February I hated it. As far as the rehab went they should  have had me walking but all the did was have me sit and do exercises with my arms and when I did get up my legs were wobbly.

RAMMEL  at the end of WW2 with the dropping of the atomic bombs we had some crazy weather. My Dad blamed the weather on those bombs, said they disturbed the atmosphere around the world.

Well had my coffee so time for breakfast. Yes I know a normal person would be thinking lunch at this time of day.
It is 45° now with a bright blue sky.
Did you notice I have my degree °symbol back .

Have a good day and stay safe and healthy.

AMY  what time will dessert be served? Not that I do not like ribs but like homemade apple pie more.

RICK, I think you're saying that the windmills have somehow contributed to the changes in the weather patterns and it sounds like you might be right.  But knowing how they contributed is the question.  If we ever learn that, or if someone who can do something about it, every learns that, maybe changes can be made that will be for the good!  Correct me if I'm wrong.

GLORIA, there's always something new to learn with these darn computers!

LLOYD, our temps were up to 46 today and the sun was shining brightly.  I took a nice walk outside and I'm increasing my distance every day!  And I don't have any "little ones" hanging around here.  The ones who hang around here know more about computers than I do and sometimes they get me on the right road.

Jane son called from WV and he said he is wearing shorts!! Temp was 48° but too cold for me to wear shorts!! Young blood I guess.  Luna had her first spa day and both survived the bath.

Gloria, I put apple pie in the hidey hole. Ribs were tasty , meat fell off the bones ...

Masks are done and ready to take in with us in the morning. Now to put feet up and enjoy the evening..

Edited to add:
Time for the haystack as last night with high winds not much sleep was had :(

I'm heading for the haystack, too!  My eyes have entered slam shut mode already but I managed to keep them open to watch "Holiday Inn" with Bing Crosby and Fred Astaire.  It was just as good as last year...and the year before...and the year before that and.... well, you get the picture.

My son and his wife brought over supper and ate it here with me.  It was venison meat loaf, scalloped potatoes and corn and we had cookies for dessert.

I wish you all a peaceful night's sleep and a happy tomorrow and may God bless us, every one!

Good morning everyone, a gloomy  start again with an overcast sky. Yesterday the sky was a bright blue I had not seen in a long time. 45° and not cold at least. I am getting tired of passwords, seems like every time I look at some thing different this 11 wants a password.  Everytime I start up in the morning password wanted and not the one I had the day before. I save it every time but still says not the right one.

JANE  don't think my brain likes how different 11 is from 10.

AMY  like ribs when the meat falls off the bones, my #2 son does them like that and they are so good. I have noticed most of the help I have been getting have been wearing 2 masks. When they talk to me I cannot hear a word they are saying.

Had my coffee so time for breakfast while it is still morning.

Have a good day and stay healthy and safe.

Good Morning Everyfriend!  It's a sunshiny day today and the temperature is 45º heading for a high of 50 in the middle of the day.  I took Cooper for a walk this morning and we made the whole circle just as usual.  It sure felt good to get out and do the usual.

My kids are still saying I need to have someone here before I get in the shower so I'm planning that for late this afternoon or early evening when Frankie will be here.

And maybe, just maybe, I'll make some cookies this afternoon.  I have them mixed up and ready to go.  I have to root out the cookie cutters and get started.

AMY, you must have enough meat canned to last you the rest of the winter and then some.  I'm still planning to made vegetable soup after the holiday!  I have all the fixins except the meat.  I canned most of it last summer when the veggies were fresh.  And I have to make the squash soup that I have all the chopped up squash waiting for in the freezer.  See, life goes on!

I wish you all a good day...better than yesterday but not as good as tomorrow.

Hello to all the missing friends.  I hope everyfriend is well and just too busy to visit!

Amy, for three days of snowing, we acquired an inch on the ground. Yesterday was minus 28 and cooling; today is minus nine and warming. Yesterday, I finally cleaned and filled the humidifier after scratching my itching dry skin all day, and my eyes were so dry, I had to rinse them out. And Farrah hates it when I try to pet her and shock her instead. She seems to believe it was deliberate. :(

I don't think I've ever canned hamburger or any ground meat. Jeff, Dolly's husband, recently brought over some moose, bear, and Dall sheep meat for me, and it is so appreciated. I'm thinking about purchasing a small chest freezer and implementing a type of trade-off for store purchases in exchange for the fish and game I'm frequently gifted. It will be a hard sell, but I'd feel better knowing I contributed.

Good morning Lloyd and Gloria, I have W11 from my new laptop. I'm also noticing a few differences, such as if I move an item from one site to another computer site, it's a move. Still, if I attempt the same action from a location to my external drive, it shows as a copy, and I don't see a sign it was copied and do a second copy and check for assurance. Also, the right-click menu is different with the newer W11 preferences shown. You have to right-click other options at the bottom for  " other options" to see older W10  options.

Jane, even recovering, you do far more than I do; extraordinary!

It's time to say good night, before my eyes slam shut permanently!  I've had a good day...two walks with Cooper and lots done around the house.  And when Frankie got here, I took a good shower.  LLOYD, no men in my shower!  It would be far too crowded!

AMY, I do can the carrot soup in pint jars and it's usually just a nice bowlful for lunch or supper.  So far, no one has opted to share it with me.  They don't know what they're missing.  And now I've finishe up all that I canned in the summer and I'll need to make more.

I'm off to the haystack!  I sure hope it's loaded with zzzzs!  I wish you all a peaceful night's sleep and a happy tomorrow.  And may God bless us, every one!

Good morning everyone, fell asleep early so now I am awake early. 49° and Thursday weather guessers are saying 60° Are we mixed up? I thought it was mid December almost winter but is more like late winter or very early spring.

LLOYD  so nice you have grands close enough to enjoy while they are young.

JANE  I have reached the stage where I take a shower when a CNA is here. I take and wash myself but feel better if someone is here. I leave the bathroom door open a little so she can hear if I yell. You sure have recuperated fast once you got home. Don't go overdoing things now that your daughters have gone home.

AMY  my daughter has taken advantage when good hamburg is on sale and canned it for later use. Now with the solar panels are connected she has a freezer again so she will put meat in that again.Took over a year for the batteries they ordered to be delivered-came from China of course :(

PATRICIA  I use Google Chrome more than Windows so sofar I am not bothered much with 11. I do check it out at times and see a lot of places to stream movies, some free to watch and others cost. Has the gamebox installed but that is something I will never bother with. Like Rammel said movies and games. Kind of like a combination of 10 and 11.

JANE  reading all you have done the last few days wore me out. Maybe I will go lay on the cough and watch TV if anything good is on.

Have a good day and stay safe.

Good Morning Everyfriend!  It's still dark out there but Frankie has gone to work and Cooper is refusing to leave her bed even for breakfast!  I have a feeling his stomach will take over soon.

Right now it's 36º here and heading for a high of 48.  GLORIA, you called it!  It's more like Spring starting or early Fall.  I wonder if it will be a White Christmas?

I have no special plans for today except that the cookie cutters are out and I'm thinking maybe cookies this morning.  I hope you all have a good day...better than yesterday but not as good as tomorrow!

Good morning..

Overcast this morning with a temp of 28°. Taking hubby for a hair cut this morning, after that I don't know. Need to wash and put away the spoils from yesterday  and who knows??

Jane, have fun making cookies.

Gloria, if we were younger solar would be the way to go.  We will just have to be happy with our power company.

Patricia, that is not bad for 3 days of snowing, must have been a fine snow. Ours is just about gone leaving a lot of ice behind from the rain and they are calling for more rain on Wed. Crazy weather!

Better get ready..

Enjoy your day and stay safe.

Good morning everyone! I have nothing planned for today except for incremental. Yesterday I went shopping via Dolly and Jeff and stopped at 12:20 PM to take a photo of the sun going down at minus 29. The link is below.

Today is minus 38 for a high, and it won't start warming up again until Thursday.

One more day has ended and I still didn't get the cookies baked.  I just seem to be busy doing my exercises, putting in eye drops, cleaning up taking my medicine, doing more exercises, taking Cooper for walks, eating properly and whatever needs doing.  Today it was laundry.  Frankie has a clothes basket in her room and it was full so I did hers and mine today.

And it was a beautiful day out there.  The temp got up to 56 and the sun was shining!

Now, I'm heading for the haystack a tad early and I wish you all a peaceful night's sleep and a happy tomorrow.  And may God bless us, every one!

I'm checking in to say "good night" dear friends as well.... Sweet dreams & God Bless. Our current temp is 56° with the low to be 46°. This is NOT Christmas weather! I am not in the mood and not ready and can't believe Christmas in just over a week away. Have not mailed a single card and must finish that last dog portrait so no time to rest yet.

Lloyd, I've given all 3 of my kids lectures today about "taking it easy". They are hard workers and don't stop to think what they are doing to their bodies stressing & working NOW is going to affect they older years. None of us relized that and we are paying the price, aren't we?

I was sound asleep this morning and even dreaming at 7:00am when I got one of those robo calls. I was SO angry, what good does it do for people to make those calls, surely nobody would buy anything from them. I answer the phone even when it doesn't say who it is. I don't know any of family or friends cell phone numbers. Bedtime, I woke up about 2:30 & didn't get out of bed until 5:00, fed cats... didn't get up again until that phone call. I finally lay down for a nap about 4:30 & youngest son called to ask if he could come by tonight instead of tomorrow night. I'm happy to see them when ever they have time! But, no nap & I am breathing hard like half asleep~~  EDIT: just checked & the temp now at 10:20 pm is 60 degrees!
