Robert went to his lawyer and said, 'I would like to make a will but I don't
know exactly how to go about it.'  The lawyer smiled at Robert and
replied, 'Not a problem, leave it all to me.'

Robert looked somewhat upset and said, 'Well, I knew you were going to take a big portion, but I would like to leave a little to my family too!'

On the Scent

She looked at him across the room,
And wondered if he was a guest.
Probably a friend of the groom,
For she seemed to know all the rest.

There was something about him though
That struck a most familiar chord.
Way back in time she tried to go –
Through her old memories she pored.

A distant relative, maybe,
Somebody she had never met.
All alone, it appeared to be -
She might have a dance partner yet.

He was in his sixties, she felt,
Plenty of hair, even if gray,
No gut hanging over his belt.
Suddenly, his eyes strayed her way.

Walking toward her, he flashed a smile,
And a gleam came into his eye.
"Well, hi," he said, "it's been awhile."
Heck, she thought, should I know this guy?

He reached out and gave her a hug,
But she didn't return the squeeze.
Best she could manage was a shrug,
Feeling awkward, with shaky knees.

"The years have sure been kind to you,"
He dropped an arm to hold her hand.
Then, garlic breath gave her the clue –
It was Tony, her third husband.

Shirley, thank you for explaining that..I do hamburgers that way when reheating them just never heard the term wet fry before.

Patricia , missing your posts and hope your computer problems are soon fixed!

Jane, slow down and drop us a line and say hi!!

Bubble thank you for the new start page..

Better get ready.......not sure if a dance is in order or just a waltz with the shovel..

Enjoy your day and stay safe.

I'm up, even a few things planned for this morning that NEED to be taken care of. Time to go to the bank & do whatever it takes to switch my debit card to a regular credit card so when the kids start paying my bills they can do it their way. My debit card is not attached to my checking account but it also won't be used by at least one of the utilities.  When my daughter was in town months ago we thought we had it fixed but even with plenty of money in it's own account, something doesn't work right. SO I need to take care of it. 2 of my 3 kids took time to go to the bank with me to sign up & both are used to doing everything on their phones with a credit card. Yes, seems everyone gets "compromised" now & then & have to wait for a new card so maybe I'll keep the debit & take out a new credit card for them to use when doing MY business. I'd rather write the checks & handle it but time to ease them into this side of it. My husband & I pinched pennys & did everything ourselves so it's hard to change, but times are changin' .... those little nurses that owned the tiny store at the foot of the hill when we lived in Marlow,England, spent all their time trying to break me of dropping those last "g's" (gettin', goin', just old Missouri twang).

We have a brisk wind blowing out of the south & full cloud cover. Weather guesser got it right about the wind but supposed to be sunshine. Fire warnings are out as expected since everything is tinder try. I've never seen leaves dry up on trees like this year, hanging on & until a couple days ago, sweet gum was full, and ice storm would have destroyed it. The prediction for Friday has dropped from 70 down to 66 but that's still the best day to get these leaves away from the house.

Amy, when I took Cas in to have the pacemaker used to shock his heart into same rhythm on both sides, he was very concerned they would use up his battery but they assured him it was good for years. The paddles were not strong enough to do the job. They would not let me be in the room when they did the shocks but the nurse explained that "it was strong enough to raise his whole body off the gurney". Next day he was sitting in his LazyBoy being quiet & thoughtful so I asked what was wrong. His chest hurt and they neglected to explain to him that it would. When I told him what the nurse told me he was satisfied & perked up. Cas had a pacemaker/defibrillator combo implanted.

Bubble, thanks for the fresh start. Beautiful graphics & great text. "You do good, girl!"

Oops, Lloyd, you snuck in!  Shame on you even thinking Hershey Bars!!! They are my favorite of all candy but I don't have diabetes, and I have not had one for AGES!

Good morning EVERYFRIEND ‼️

We are back home after a wonderful time in San Francisco.  Out time passed much too quickly and I could have happily stayed there forever🤪🤪🤪

Unfortunately the bug I caught sure zapped me good and it still continues. We were to go to Dr. Dave's yesterday to stay with the kiddos, but I was in no shape to go, so Bob went alone and left me here in my misery to rest on my birthday alone🤪🤪🤪. No big deal.....as we all know birthdays are just another day and I can certainly celebrate at a later time.

Today we are off to see another orthopedic surgeon to see if he has any thoughts about this shoulder of mine.  Truth is, Iprobably should not be going but I am 10 days in with my cold, so hopefully I am well past the contagious 😷 point😩. I hope‼️. I will be masked up for sure.

Thank you, BUBBLE for our nice dress Soda Shoppe.  I enjoyed your nice stories you have shared.

Time to get moving.

Enjoy your day.

Shirley, my friend is totally dependant on her pacemaker. The nurses usually stop and restart it but this time she only made it race and all is fine.....for now.

LLOYD, I am with Shirley on this..how in the dickens are we going to keep you around if you keep eating sweet???  Did you buy sugar free chcolate bars?

Great ot see you Callie, Jane,Phyllis.

Rick we now have high winds and in some areas to the east they have no power. I am finished dancing with the snow blower for now but tomorrow is another day..

I am back home after my 2nd opinion from an orthopedic specialist.  Unfortunately he did not give me ANY hope for my shoulder to ever get more movement 😩😩.  He is referring me to a nerve specialist just incase they might have any thoughts about it.  Since it has been over a year since the surgery he feels it is as good as it is going to get. 😥    I had to try to see IF something could be done‼️😩. The specialist thinks the surgery was done well and the reverse shoulder is in there good and tight.  I just need to be thankful for the little bit of movement I have😩😩😩Bless my poor husband. I am SO thankful for his part in my daily non functioning life😩😩. WHAT WOULD I do without him😩

Thank you for the birthday wishes, AMY.  I am now old enough now that I no longer need to remove my shoes to go through security at the airport.  Guess at 75 they are afraid we might fall getting our shoes off and on again.  I am most thankful as I have a hard time walking barefoot ....my balance stinks‼️‼️

I back to my recliner to rest after my adventure today.

Stay well EVERYFRIEND.

Denver,
Has anyone said why the "reverse shoulder" is not working as expected. I thought it was to be an improvement over the older method. At one time I thought I was going in that direction, but my age being what it is has pretty much cancelled that thought. Can't use my right arm much above shoulder height - muscles just can't move it there (geometry problem).

Well, shucks, had a post half done but phone rang & I "X-d" out without posting & it's gone, dumb, huh?

:happybday:  Happy Birthday to YOU,Jenny!  :happybday:
Jenny, sorry about the arm (you, too, Rick), guess we all have to adjust our heads to what OUR bodies are willing to do at this stage. I need to call the oxy people to see how I should clean up this hose & nose piece from the germs, sure don't want this crud to be on going!

Hi to everyone, I'm not getting a thing done today & the laundry is laughing at me! I think I am going to microwave me a sweet potato, peel & mash, put a chunk of butter & tad of salt on it & call that supper. Cranberry sauce would go with that, huh?  I am more sleepy than hungry so will get comfy. Sitting up to sleep is not what my body calls sleeping, but the nose plugs up when I lay down.

Poor Tiger doesn't know what to do, I've wrecked her routine. Sure, poor baby, I took a hamburger out of the freezer (raw) & thawed because I didn't have any fresh eye of round cubes to giver her. It was the "prime meat hamburger" and she wouldn't touch it.  :knuppel2:  :knuppel2:  :knuppel2:  She is so spoiled but that's it for tonight. I will offer her a tad of canned Friskie's pate', she ate a little of that last night.

That's all, folks, doubt if I will be back tonight, nothing going on around here!

Hello Everyfriend!  I'm back home after my two visits.  I had a great visit with my daughter and she and her husband both said that we have to do it again when the weather is warmer so we can sit outside and watch the birds and squirrels.

I also had a great visit with my sister.  We talked almost non-stop for the better part of 4 days!  And we sure didn't take out much time to sleep.  We did eat and we laughed and we cooked and we helped one another with computer stuff and we spent a lot of time looking for stuff we laid down "somewhere" and forgot where!

On the way home, Cathy and I stopped at a country store that I've probably passed a couple hundred times since it opened and it was absolutely amazing!  They had more stuff in there...food, clothing, housewares, books, toys, farm equipment, almost anything you might want or need!  It was a lot bigger than it looks from the highway!  And now I have my half&Half for my coffee in the morning and a couple of sweet potatoes to bake and they had canning lids!  I'm stocked for the next canning session!

HAPPY BELATED BIRTHDAY, JENNY!  I hope it was a happy one!  I'm sorry about the bad news about your shoulder!  I hope the next stop gives you better news!

I sure feels good to be back home even if I did enjoy the visits!  I'm hitting the hay a bit early tonight and getting at my Christmas decorating tomorrow!  Everyone in my neighborhood has lights except me.  I won't do outside lights but I have wreaths from the wreathmaking session at Christy's house!  And I have lots of inside decorations!  I'm eager to get at that.  And, of course, I have a couple loads of wash to do and I need to cook something to eat and Cooper will be here at 6:45 a.m.  Gonna be a busy day tomorrow.

I wish you all a peaceful night's sleep and a happy tomorrow and may God bless us, every one!

RAMMEL, my issue is not due to the reverse total shoulder, rather it is the damage done to the axillary nerve when they were trying to put my dislocated shoulder back in the socket on the initial fall back in March of 2021. If truth be known I probably did not even need the total reverse shoulder replacement as the damage was already done to the nerve, but they did not know it.  Who knows....the nerve could have been further damaged by the surgeries??  Nothing I can do about it now😩😩. I have friends and relatives that have had the total reverse shoulder done that were immediately able to use the arm and are pleased as can be.  I can not move my arm away from my body nor can I lift that arm straight out much beyond my hip/stomach area😩  When I am laying on my back I can totally lift it over my head and lay my arm out to the side....I have total range of motion, it is just not able to do it when I am upright‼️😩

Thank you, SHIRLEY and JANE for the birthday wishes.  I plan to celebrate with family at a later time when I am well again😩‼️🤪

Welcome back, JANE.  Your visiting sounded wonderful and I am so happy you enjoyed a fun time.

Before I forget......for those of you that remember our late Joan's little grandson, Finlay that we all watch growing up with pictures by his big brown bear?  Well.....Master Finlay recently turned 16‼️‼️. He is a very nice looking young man.

Have a good evening 🦋

Jane, welcome home, we missed you in here!! I can imagine the fun you had away with your family, makes ones heart smile.

Shirley, these furkids love applesauce with cream on it. They both have just had a birthday with one turning 11 and the other one 4. How times flies seems like yesterday we brought them both home.

Good Morning Everyfriend!  I've been up and attem since 5:30 this morning!  I woke up and couldn't go back to sleep so I just got up and started putting more of my stuff away and getting ready for Cooper's arrival!  He's here now and it's light enough to go for a walk so that's next on the agenda.

I hung the wreath that Frankie brought me on the living room closet door so I can look at it all the time.  It's made out of imitation greens so they won't die being inside.  I love it!!

Now Cooper is sitting beside me asking to go out so here we go!  Have a good day...better than yesterday but not as good as tomorrow!

It is a beautiful day here but, a little chilly.

Sorry about your shoulder, Jenny.  We have to adapt as best as we can to the restrictions of older age, don't we?  Happy belated birthday.

Glad you are back home, Jane, after a nice visit.  We haven't even thought about decorations yet.  Too many other things have gotten in the way.  We may put up a couple of door wreaths....or not.  We will see what happens.  I am still recovering from the last hospital trip.  Doing better now but most of the household duties are left up to David and he has enough on his hands just taking care of me and keeping us fed.

How are you and Kyle doing, Amy?

We are waiting on a tree removal guy to come today.  One hangs over the house and allows squirrels to get on the roof and into the attic.  They cause a mess and damage to the roof and siding.  I am not fond of those "bushy-tailed rats".   :tickedoff:

Take care, All.

I've been so busy on the phone today I never even got dressed!  I'm trying to get things "in order" so my 3 kids can handle everything. I moved money over into a better "Jumbo CD" rate than what I put some in a few weeks ago. 4.8 this time. Sure better than the below 1% it was getting in the moneymarket account. Put the 3 kids on a co-owners instead of beneficiaries & the person at the bank kind of hemmed & hawed about "one could take it all & run" and I told him not to worry, not these kids, they all have more money than I do! We worked too hard to save money to have the government take more than what they tax out of it every year! Anyway, it's been a hard day on the phone all day & when talking my oxygen cuts off so feet are super swollen tonight. I didn't know compression sox squeezed the fluid up & out, I learn more from my kids than from the doctors!

Phyllis, do you think you would smell moth balls if you put them around in the attic?  I keep boxes of them on hand to toss any place we get critters that we don't want. I did hesitate putting them in the storage parts of the RV/motorhome but did, and never had any odor inside but the critters quit hanging out in the wheel wells. I buy them at the Dollar Tree so they've gone up to $1.25 now instead of $1. The cats seem to keep squirrels away, but we did have lots of them in the Kansas City area (Leawood). When were you in the hospital last? My memory is not keeping up these days.

Jane, you reminded me that I planned to bring up a large table decoration that I can put holly in this year because my "taller than the house" holly bush has red berries on it starting right now! The leaves are so shiny green. It needs a serious trim so I hope some neighbors will be wanting some branches for wreaths. We never had holly when I was growing up but had a whole hill full where we lived in England that a short cut to town ran through. They called it "the spinny". Without a refrigerator I walked to town about every day. Anyway, I planned to cut the greenery & put a new red candle in the center holder & give to a neighbor but with my 3 kids going to be here one evening next week to sign papers, I will use it as a centerpiece first!

Lloyd, glad you didn't get the candy bars but I did not know they went up that high! When we lived in England I think they were about 10cents a bar and cigarettes were 20cents a pack at the PX. Of course that was more than 66 years ago ...hahaha... By the way, the applesauce is much better for you than apple pie! That pie crust turns to sugar in your tummy, all breads & starches do, but complex carbs can be good for you. With potatoes you have to check which kind are good & bad, and there seems to be a lot of different opinions whether they are good or bad for regulating the sugar.

Amy, seems like yesterday you got that last pup. I've been wanting one so bad but can't do that while Tiger is still here. She already is feeling neglected with so many people being around. So sad she refuses to come out of hiding when the kids come over, and she has seen them all of her life!  The minute they go out to their cars she is at my side. Andy likes to get his rescue dogs older but I don't mind the training part. I told him he'd have to take it camping for me & he was thrilled. His wife doesn't want another one yet. Tiger is terrified of dogs as well as people so this may not happen. That is what dreams are for, isn't it?

I promised myself I'd get to bed early, no nap today. Sweet dreams & God Bless.

Oops, you slipped in, Rick! If you don't mind, turn out the lights, please?

Quietly turns lights on...starts coffee pot and kettle.

Good morning..

Raining here and has been for a few hours sure hope it doesn't freeze!!
No hanging laundry out but that's ok. Better make raisin bread  and pastry today. Not sure what else will get done.

Shirley, our next pup/dog will be a rescue. We have had rescues in the past and they make great dogs. One, our Damation/Dane was from the humane society and I went back after a while to say how pleased we were and how the dog settled in. The lady there thought I was in to give them a scolding about the dogsince Dals were suppose to be high strung. We took him clear across Canada camping and the kids in the camp ground loved him.

Jane, so nice to se your posts..

Phyllis, we both are fine here, thank you for asking. Kyle is  making another bird house and that keeps him busy. Me, I don't have to look for work as it always finds me....no matter how hard I try to run from it. :))

Enjoy your day and stay safe.

Shirley, I was taken to the ER two weeks ago today (Saturday).  Luckily, this time they only kept me for a few hours.  They did some tests and x-rays, started me on antibiotics and sent me home.  I am doing better now and regaining my strength.  I hope to continue doing that so David will not have to do so much with taking care of me and the house and property.

GOOD MORNING EVERYFRIEND!

It's cool and raining here.  We're having freezing temps overnight but by the time I'm ready to look again, the temps are out of the freezing zone.

Frankie doesn't work this weekend so I don't have Cooper but they are coming over later so I can help her order some stuff she found on line for her mother for Christmas.

Cathy put Spotify on my phone and now I can have Christmas Carols wherever I am at any time I want them.  Right now, Perry Como is serenading me!  He's one of my all-time favorites.  You get to pick 4 of your favorites and then they throw in other singers in the same category so you get a real treat!  I love it!

I have my wreaths up and my dining table decorated for Christmas.  I'm getting there.

I sat down last night to watch "Mannix" while I ate my supper and I have great sound but no picture.  My son (who sold and repaired TV for most of his life) came over to see if he could get it back for me and he said it's gone forever!  He also said he has a couple of used sets in the store and he'd check them out today and maybe bring me a different one today or tomorrow.  If it's not one thing it's another!

I also lost my email on my computer.  I had it when I went to bed my last night at my sister's and I didn't have it in the morning.  The TV was "one thing" and this is "another".  Cathy tried to find my email and then told me I'd have to call the place where I got my laptop!  So that's on today's agenda.

PHYLLIS, I'm so glad to hear that you are "on the mend".  Keep on keeping on!  We need to have you here!

AMY, if you get ice, would you please keep it on your side of the border?  I have enough worries about Frankie and everyone else traveling in bad weather!  Especially if they're doing it for me!

I'm off to do a load of laundry that I brought home from my travels.  And I'm wearing a Christmas sweat shirt to accomplish my chores today!

I wish you all a good day...better than yesterday but not as good as tomorrow!

Jane, I agree with you on the ice. I don't mind, can put up with the snow but really dislike the ice.........unless I have skates on. To spin around like a button on an outhouse door is not fun in a vehicle.

Amy, - My Uncle had a Dalmatian (Frosty) who was a very "family" dog. His only problem was that he would NOT let anyone take anything out or away from the house. Not even the garbage collectors. He had to be held inside on collection days. As a mid teenager (me) Frosty was big enough to knock me over.

BTW - If I smell that raisin bread from here I'll be on my way. That would go good with the coffee you started.

Rick Dalmations got a bad name after back yard breeders  started when 101 Dalmations came out. Buddy was not high stung, he was laid back and loved to get up on my lap while I was watching tv (he weighed 105 lbs)  and go to sleep.

Rick, raisin bread is done, out of the oven thankfully . I thought we may lose power with the high winds but so far so good!! Will put a loaf in the hidey hole....if you were closer you would have a loaf..just as my neighbour will when it is cool enough to run over to them.

This place has NOT been busy today!  Everyfriend must be taking naps while they're staying in out of the cold weather!

Frankie didn't make it over here today so she's coming tomorrow.  A friend called and wanted her to do something so she did that instead of showing up here.

I'm getting ready to head for the haystack pretty soon.  I'm really tired.  I listened to Mannix on the TV and it wasn't much fun.  I remembered that my son would not be over here because he had a family trip to see a show in NYC today.  Maybe tomorrow.  I did tell him there was no rush.  But I put in a busy day today and I'm ready to throw in the towel or whatever the thing is we do when we're ready to collapse for the day.  I wish you all a peaceful night's sleep and a happy tomorrow and may God bless us, every one!

JaneS,
Unfortunately our numbers are getting fewer and fewer. Between that and those not feeling well, the posts have dwindled. Me of few words is not a big help.  Everyone should spread the word, and URL (address) to neighbors, relatives, and friends.

But for now - Goodnight,

A day of rest here, have leftovers from last night which were tasty and will make again.....so easy  to make also! Will post the changes I would make next time.

Jane, Patricia is having puter problems at the moment.

Better get ready  to meet the day.

Enjoy your day and stay safe.

I only spend a short time on the computer each day....mostly checking email and my bank activity and S&F.  When I am not feeling well I probably won't be online at all.  Sorry, but that is what my life is like these day.  Most of time I don't have anything to say, anyway.  :-[

Today all I have to say is......it is a cloudy and chilly day in my part of NC.

Take care, All.

Good Morning Everyfriend!  It's a up to 48º here right now but it's going to hit a low of 24 at some point today.

My son just left and I now have a TV that works.  It came out of their bedroom.  He said it's only temporary but they won't miss it until he sees what he has in the back of the store that works.

RICK, a lot of the people who used to post regularly in the SODA SHOPPE now do that over in Norm's Bait.  I don't go over there because way back when Norm was still around that that was just starting up, I posted over there and I was told to bug off.  So I did and I do.  Sometimes I go read just so I can see what old friends are doing but I NEVER post over there!

I'm going to have to get off here and find my church service because I'm not going there today.  Our priest is ill and we're not having a full service so I'm going to try to get a full service from another church on line!

I wish you all a good day...better than yesterday but not as good as tomorrow!

I'm here.... just got back from church & McDonald's. Says 38 but feels like 34, & it felt colder than that out in the wind with my coat flapping open.  I'm not getting the hang of this portable oxygen, first got it on to go to church, using the straps to wear like a back pack... oops, all connected but forgot to turn it on. Well, that stinks, had to take off, turn it on & pack it on again.... well, dummy, coat doesn't fit OVER the back pack so had to off & attach all over again.

Jane, glad you got your world up & running. I hate it when my ROUTINE gets off track. TV is a big part of that routine!  I keep it on GRIT or ME most of the time to stay away from the news media & politics. Saw a new western the other day & wondered if Lloyd caught it. I hardly pay attention to the story line but the scenery is my kind of world. I am starting to put names I heard all my life with faces, I didn't watch movies as a kid. I have been surprised how many Westerns that Vera Miles was in & so many with John Wayne. She was from Wichita & went to school with my friend's husband (& many of the guys Cas knew). She sure was pretty.

I need to run the little Hoover, the feet of these chairs look like they are wearing cat hair sox....

Amy, one of the neighbors had a dalmatian that was very good with all the neighbor kids until one day one of the kids crawled into it doghouse with it & it bit the kid. Of course it caused a lot of uproar & they got rid of the dog, they weren't the type people to fence it in or even show affection for it. Sorry, I like the critters more than some people.  :-\

Phyllis, I keep my laptop sitting on the same table as the iPadPro that the kids text on & my Fitbit is assigned to. I do not do banking online, kids tell me mine is secure but I prefer phone calls to them & then go sign whatever papers are necessary. My kids laugh & know I'm still in charge of ME & whatever I do. 2 of the 3 knock themselves out trying to help but the youngest is the quiet one & shows up once a week to visit, always answers my text or phone calls almost immediately & will be there to do whatever I want & better than I ask or expect. I'm lucky, I really think I am, to get this much warning about my last days. Not everyone gets to plan (& I do not hold any doctors to an exact time), but I can tell the difference each day/week. I don't doubt some of my muscle loss & strength has disappeared because I've gotten lazy, I really have, so makes me able to do less. I had a pang when Amy mentioned twirling on the ice skates, mine are still sharpened & ready to glide~~ I was on my roller skates less than a year ago, got a nice spot in the basement to twirl~~ Will have to hang them up now because the feet & legs are swelling so big. I do blame most of my problems on the bad case of Covid over 2 years ago, never did get back like before & do not think it age related!

I'm going to call my son to see what time he plans to come pick up leaves. He insists he will bring what he needs instead of getting out MY equipment. I want to make sure he fills the bags small enough that I can get them to the street & don't have to have anyone do that for me. Don't want to waste time waiting on him because my eyes are trying to slam shut.

Shirley, I am sure there is some adjusting to do with your oxygen but thankfully it is helping you.
I like animals also more than some people , the child did the tresspassing and the dog gets the blame....something wrong there. Some people should have to take a test first before they have animals or even kids!!

She is a pinney pincher so she Keeps me in Line for the most part. and we are not high roolers by no means, but do have a good amout in edeward jones safe accounts, not riskey places on the stock market. Hey there, all you Everyfriends!  It's been a long, busy day and I got a lot of stuff done.  I'm decorated for Christmas except for one thing.  I still have to hang my flags and I think I'll have Cathy do that tomorrow.

It was cold and windy today but I went out and took my walk and I didn't freeze!  I made a casserole.  I had some left over chicken that I had taken out of the freezer and I decided I'd start with that.  I added some little pasta sea shells already cooked and some other stuff, put some cheese and fried onions on top and OH WOW!  was it every good!  I probably won't ever make it again because I don't remember what all was in it but I'm going to enjoy getting rid of this one!  I think I'll call it the IDKW (I don't know what) casserole!

Now I'm heading for the haystack because I have to be up early to meet Cooper tomorrow morning!  I wish you all a peaceful night's sleep and a happy tomorrow.  And may God bless us, every one!

Good Morning to anyfriend who shows later this morning.  I have to get ready to meet Cooper today and then I have to get ready to meet Cathy to do a bit of shopping.  I don't think we're going until early afternoon but I have to work on my list!  I NEED to get some Christmas shopping done!  First on my list is the the two kids in Oklahoma.  And I don't have a clue!

Right now it's 20º out there!  That's BRRRRRR!  I'm not looking forward to our walks today!  But having a demanding doggie around makes us do some things we'd avoid if the doggie wasn't so demanding.  I guess that's good for me.  It keeps me moving and it makes me do stuff I wouldn't do if he wasn't so demanding.  That sounds like I'm repeating myself but I'm not going to fix it!  You all can sort it out!

I'm off to begin my day!  I wish you all a good one...better than yesterday but not as good as tomorrow!

Title: Re: Soda Shoppe for December 1, 2022
Post by: Shirley on December 05, 2022, 02:05:18 PM
Can I add my 2¢?  When my gr-mother died we discovered that the big house she & her husband built with HER inheritance from her gr-father.... was divided equally among her & their 5 kids BECAUSE HER HUSBAND didn't leave a will, her name was not on the deed. Her uncle was the probate judge so she got to pretend she owned the house from the time her husband died in 1937 until she died 35 years later.

For all those years she didn't get a dime from railroad retirement because he just turned 65 (he was hit by a train) and didn't file for it (she lived to 96). Someone realized she never got a pension or social security so they filed for SS for her for last few years. The kids paid her bills as long as she lived & each one received their portion of the estate when she died. Missouri was the state and I do think things may have changed since then, but everyone better do their own research!

Lloyd, for MY sake and for anyone that helps me, I PAY for their services and then not disappointed when they don't do what I hoped they would. I pay my kids what I would have to pay anyone else & usually a little more because I trust them not to cheat me. SO one that has been doing a job can't claim anything extra in the end, they share equally. I don't promise anyone anything but just pay as I go, when I do anything for someone I do it without expecting them to return the favor. I have been disappointed people are not as honest as we hope.

All that said, my husband absolutely refused to let me work, my job was to take care of him, kids, the house & food, etc. He didn't wash dishes or clothes but he could repair the appliances & anything needed. We both earned what is here today and I am still working hard to keep it out of the government's hands to give away. Our kids worked their way thru college, earned scholarships as well as jobs. They have paid their kids way and they are doing okay, but I hope to leave these kids the college money we didn't have back then.

Many years ago the family that lived next door, it was the lady's uncle's house and they took care of him until he died.  When he died THEY didn't get the house, it was divided equally among the nieces & nephews who never did a thing for him. The house had to be sold & they didn't get anything for all the work they did taking care of him & the property all those years. It made a big impression on me as well as what happened to my grandmother.

Time out to brag.... anyone see the people lined up next to the new plane Boeing just rolled out in California?  MY GRANDAUGHTER (aerospace engineer) is one of the 2 females in that line up. Her sister is the one to help get the MAX back in the air. These girls & they have 2 brothers doing great things, are my daughter's kids. So many people, men & women, gave her grief for being a working mother.... but she didn't short change those kids one bit!

Guess it's okay to talk about anything in here, don't mean to offend anyone but at this stage of my life I am being more outspoken. Hey, I was always a mouth BUT kept it under control in public!

That must be the end to this!  I've been doing odds & ends & back to the computer so now I gotta shut up. One last observation.... we are all so lucky in here for many different reasons. Each one has special joys, kids that show up at the right time, Amy & Kyle keep projects moving like Cas & I did. I think it's a blessing when anyone has a kid living with them. I had one friend in particular growing up that had everything, her parents & grandparents on both sides super wealthy by world wide standards.... but money didn't make her happy, she lived her whole life feeling deprived. She loved coming to my house because no matter what my parents were doing, if they were home they would sit & visit with my friends. I was a lucky kid, my parents loved us and we knew it. Mom always told us that "our kids could get what they wanted when grown, bigger & better than what we can give them, BUT they can't buy a brother or sister that is taught to love them."

And this is the end if anyone is still reading.... my therapy session for the year!

Good Morning EVERYFRIEND‼️

I am STILL hosting this awful BUG.  Coughing like crazy....sinus head pressure and just over all feeling terrible.  It was two weeks today this whole thing started😩😩. I do not think I have ever had something hang on like this😩‼️

We did go to our grandsons 4th birthday party on Saturday.  Surprisingly enough we both felt pretty good.....and they insisted we come IF we were able and not worry about exposing anyone to our bug, as everyone there has had it or still has it....  It was so much fun.  They had it at their home....the place was all decorated in a construction theme and it was done very nicely.  Mom Megan made and decorated the cake.  I am so proud of her.....none of this buying a fancy cake for her boy..... we really enjoyed meeting their friends.  Her two best friends that she met in the neighborhood, were delightful.  One is French and the other is Austrian.  Their kiddos are all about the same age.  There were three babies there almost exactly the same age...all within a couple of weeks.  Our Baby Leon turned 6 months on the 2nd.  I can not believe he is already this  age.  He is already scouching around on the belly and can move with his feet in the little walker.  He weighs 18 pounds and cut his first tooth this past week.

JANE....whom ever told you to BUG OFF in Norm's group should be ashamed of themselves.....this makes me sad as we all have so much to contribute and I for one missed you when you left the group‼️

PHYLLIS, I am sorry to read you have not been feeling too well.  It sure is great to see your posts when you can make it in.

SHIRLEY, this wearing oxygen is indeed a whole new thing to deal with.  A few posts ago you mentioned that you wanted to try to wash your cannula?  Did they not give you extra cannulas and hoses?  They should have!  I know you need it and it is important but I know how restraining it can be.  I am sorry but I had to chuckle at your description of trying to get ready to leave for church with having to take it back off to put coat on🤪🤪🤪

JANE, you know I love reading all about your goings on each day.  Between you and AMY, I get to hear all about cooking and doing this and that.....you gals run circles around me🤪🤪‼️‼️‼️ I hope one day I can again be more involved and accomplish some of the normal things I used to enjoy doing so much🥰🥰

No one commented on my post about our JOAN'S grandson....I thought sure some of you would remember little, now BIG, FINLAY. HE grew up so quickly, like all of our kiddos have.

LLOYD.....I really enjoy your posts and the trials and tribulations that you and Nancy deal with.  Sometimes life can be so cruel.....but we MUST do our best to get through and not let the awful things get us down.

I wish you ALL a good day.  I am so thankful to have all of you in my daily life.

Jenny

Good morning..

I did pop in and read after we got back from town but boy I was
too tuckered to type! Slept like a log last night and thought I could sleep in this morning but that wasn't to be. We managed to get most of the gifts for the kids..now to wrap them. A trip to Costco  for groceries that I can't get here  then lunch at Swiss Chalet then home. Today I take the van in for an oil change then home to work and tidy up in here. May do some baking....will see.

Jane you will likely be crocheting with your hands.

Shirley, way to go for your Granddaughter!! What a accomplishment she has been involved in actually  for both girls.

Better get ready for the day.

Enjoy your day and stay safe.

Good morning.  Cloudy here but supposed to be nearly 60 deg. today.  Can't complain about that!

I will try to address Christmas cards today...and include Christmas checks with them to be mailed tomorrow.  Also, send a birthday card to my son in Virginia.  He had the misfortune to be born on Christmas eve.

Thank you, Jenny.  I hope you feel better today, too.  Colds at any time of the year are not fun.

Take care, All.

Have to smile about your comment of son being born on Christmas Eve, Phyllis.... my sister was born on Christmas Day and I was born mid Jan..........NOBODY ever forgot my sister's and she got a bonus gift from them all. Only my mother thought about mine in mid-Jan & I do recall comments from various aunts & uncles about "so many gifts" from Christmas~~~  NOT meant as a pitty me but just a kid's observation of human nature. I can honestly say I was never jealous of her because I knew I had more fun than she did and never understood her, still don't!

I'm glad you are better, I am finally getting an antibiotic to pick up today. Guess this bug that causes such a deep cough has spread over the country.

I passed out all my cards & money a month ago with warning they were to tell me at Christmas "what I bought them or won't get any next year"! I don't ask they bring the gifts to the party but explain that "it ain't no fun getting gifts and not be giving".

For the life of me I couldn't remember which day we celebrated St.Nick's Day as kids... 5th or 6th) it was the German ancestors that passed down that holiday & we loved it. We would write our letters to Santa & put them in the biggest stocking we had, St.Nick would stop by while we were sleeping to pick up & fill our stockings with some kind of fruit (apple, orange, banana) one small toy like Old Maid cards or jump rope, jacks... and always some mixed nuts that had to be cracked & picked out (not many). Just Googled the holiday & found I have a good reason for not knowing which day to celebrat... seems lots of folks did the same as we did, which ever day/night we had time.... was the day to celebrate! Honest!  SO I WISH Y'ALL A MAGICAL ST.NICK'S DAY TODAY!

Vehicle has been repaired with a new stabilizer bar....and it got an oil change. Wallet got a work and is now deflated. :2funny:   Now I don;t have to listen to the "clunk" in the front end anymore!!

Bubble ,we had speculass as a treat also! Every time we went to our Aunt, Uncles and Oma's they would have them with coffee.. they weren't really our aunt and uncle but we were taught to call them  as that. My Dad helped one couple and their daughter and her husband come to Canada after the war. When Dad was stationed in Holland they were kind to him.

I got my computer back!  And it didn't cost me a fortune!

My grandfather was German and his father and uncle were immigrants in the 1800.  My grandfather was born here.  They were all bakers and we had those cookies on St. Nicks Day.  I guess they told us why when we were little but it didn't click with me until I was in my teens.  When I was little, I just really loved having "Christmas" cookies long before Christmas!

I'm getting the fruit cake out and wrapping it tomorrow and getting started on the Christmas candy.  Lots to do tomorrow.  I'm setting everything out today so I don't back out because "I can't find the stuff"

So far, my plan is to have a "driveway" sale in the Spring.  I have waaaaaay too much STUFF for one old lady living alone!

Better get back to work.  COOPER is asking for a walk.  I'll do that first, then get the mail on the way back and then "Get to Work, JANE!"

I hope Everyfriend is having a good day!  Keep on keeping on!

I remember those cookies but not the various names.  I have cousins that still live in that county in MO where their/our ancestors settled & last time I ate my brain registered some of those long ago flavors. I even love the store-bought Biscoff cookies.  I discovered them in the grocery store several years ago, and kept buying packages and giving them to friends and co-workers.  I bet I got 2 dozen folks addicted to those cookies. At work, we'd all have them with our coffee. I'd love to taste some home made ones though.

Another day has gone into the past and I'm not done with my Christmas preps.  I've got the gifts for my Greatgrands on the way now and they will arrive at my Daughter's house, she'll wrap them and hold them until the cards arrive at her house.  I'll send the home made lollypops directly to the kids so Emma and Mikey can open that package when it arrives in the mail.  Emma has begun to expect it!

SHIRLEY, fruit cake ships well if I only knew where to ship it! And I made some little ones!  Hint, hint, hint!

I have to get off to the haystack!  Tomorrow is going to be a busy day and I think Frankie might be spending the night here.  She works until 7:30 tomorrow night and then has to be back in at 7 the next morning and it's easier if she only has to come here and sleep and then get up and go! Makes my day longer and busier because she has to eat something when she gets off work and she needs a shower when she gets home!

It was cold and wet here today.  We had a lot of rain, a little sleet, a few snowflakes and temperatures in the freezing zone...and NO sun all day.  Lots of clouds!  In other words, a DREARY day! Except for the half hour Cathy was here!

I guess I'll be off to the haystack!  I wish you all a peaceful night's sleep and a happy tomorrow and may God bless us, every one!

Foggy and dreary here...supposed to get up to 70 deg. this afternoon.  I must make out the grocery order so David can pick it up tomorrow.  I'll include some Christmas items to set out on the Christmas goodies table.  Already have Christmas dinner planned.  Kansas City steaks is what we are having.  I'm looking forward to  it.  Along with some twice baked potatoes and whatever else I think of.....oh, yes....homemade cranberry sauce.

Take care, All

I know I've been negligent (sp?) about posting.  Nothing drastic -  just nothing different going on and prefer not to get repetitive about my "leisurely" lifestyle .

Not dealing with any health issues myself and everyone in family is well.  The Grands are busy pursuing their careers (Ellen isn't performing but is "Nannying" and working holiday shifts at Loft) and, the last I heard, dil battling cancer return is back to her usual activities, although she tires more quickly.

Other dil is having some kind of implant inserted in her hip area today that's supposed to control the nerve pain into her leg due to the multiple back surgeries she's had.
She assures me it's a "simple" procedure but she has to remain in the Spine Hospital overnight so they can test it.

I've been reading a lot of e-books and not watching much t.v.  Have been keeping up with "The Voice", although I mute the sound during some of the "screeching" solos.  That's why I'm not watching very many Christmas shows; just can't tolerate the type of "music" popular today.

In "real life", just trying to keep up with Domestic Duties, prepare for Christmas and deal with this one-day-dreary and cold/the-next-one sunny and almost hot Oklahoma weather!

Not sure I'll do much baking for the holidays and family is bringing most of the things for Christmas Supper.

Shirley,  I liked your comment about giving money and telling recipients to "let me know what I gave you."  Hope you don't mind if I borrow that.

And that's what's going in my central Oklahoma world.

It has been a super busy day around here but we did get a lot accomplished and much more to-do tomorrow. Had all 3 kids here to sign some papers from the bank, had a good tip from a tax person about how to handle one piece of money to pass to the kids, just make them "co-owners" now & will keep the gov out of the til~~~  so we hope, unless they come up with a different plan.

I hope to see the cardiologist or pulmonologist to be evaluated. My legs are so puffed up tight they look like they could pop. I can hardly bend the knees or ankles & the fluid keeps getting higher. I don't know what to think but did start taking vitamin B-6 today in hopes there's no side effects. I'm also taking augmentin (sp?)& the sinus/head feels so much better with just 2 pills. The coughing is basically over so if we can figure just why the legs swelling & fix that, maybe I can make it thru the holidays.

All that being said, so far I can still manage the steps to the basement & sorted out some Christmas stuff to donate to some very needy people. One of my neighbors works with students with disabilities & has connections with some homeless from countries at war, so will be filling her car with "stuff" as long as I can & she can.

Callie, I tried giving "gift" cards a couple years, various kinds & let them have their pick (7 grands + significant others, plus 7 great grands & my 3 kids plus spouses. Makes for a lot of giving. Long time ago I stopped by a garage sale & discovered a couple Christmas presents for sale with stickers still on them & whole lot less than I paid for them. The gift card deal ended up with some that nobody wanted & neither did I, so went to the money deal. Hope it works as well for you as did for me!

Jane, much as I'd love to taste your Christmas fruitcake, I will not send my snail-mail address because I know how many family & friends are standing in line and you will be killing yourself to have enough for them all. Just the offer means enough to me, honest!

Phyllis, steak is always good & can't beat those KC ones! My daughter sent me a box from OmahaSteaks & I've already dipped into one package & we had the apple tarts tonight when all were here so I can highly recommend what I've tasted so far.

Lloyd, nothing hurts worse than having a friend or family member turn on you, but I firmly believe God will punish them so don't waste your anger, it hurts you to stress yourself and you can't change things. Best thing you can do is smile every time you see him & let him wonder why.... drives 'em nuts!  Don't talk or say a thing, just smile like you have a secret. I hope you can forget the pain, my thought is that "it is up to God to forgive and I sure never forget, so NOT MY PROBLEM!"

I am heading to bed, wishing all sweet dreams ... and God Bless. Love y'all...

Good Morning Everyfriend!  The Cooper and I are up and attem early today.  I woke up around 4 a.m. and just couldn't go back to sleep so I got up and did some rooting around looking to see if I had anything that went back in the family that I could pass on to my kids or grandkids.  I was especially looking for earrings for granddaughter Natalie because she seems to like the same kind I used to wear.  I didn't find any of them but I did find my dad's very good pocket knife.  This is one of two and I gave the other one to my son last Christmas.  This one will be passed on to my grandson.  I know he appreciates family things and I think this will be special to him!

SHIRLEY, I don't give the fruitcakes to my family members.  None of them like it.  It still goes to the church on the last Sunday before Christmas with a note asking them to make a donation to their favorite church project or outreach.  If I send you a cupcake size one, you can make a donation to your favorite charity to pay for it.  Email me your address and I'll get it on the way.  I'm not promising that you'll have it in the next few days after I get your address because I'm swamped but you'll have it.  And I'd truly like an honest opinion.

LLOYD, your "friend" was not a friend!  You are well rid of him.  And I like Shirley's idea of "smiling" when you see him.  It will drive him crazy!

As soon as it gets light, the Cooper Snoop and I will be going for a walk and today, I won't mind it,  It's already 47º out there and heading for a high of51 today.  It must have rained during the night because when I took Cooper out in the yard, everything was wet!  Is it really winter?  The weather is sure behaving in a strange way so far this winter!

I finished all the lollypops yesterday.  I have Santas, reindeer, angels, and teddy bears.  Some will be sent to the GGrands in Okla and the rest will be divided among the kids on my walk route around here.  I'm all set up to make the PB and Coconut cups today.  My plan is to mix centers this morning and maybe get some of them done this afternoon.  I also want to make up some soup from a recipe I brought home from my sister's house.  Gonna be another busy one!

I got out the family bags today and I'm going to start filling them so I know what I have to send to Texas and Okla.  I'm all ready for the kids but I still have to do the adults!

If I've repeated anything, please forgive me because I'm not going to take time to go back and reread.

I wish you all a good day...better than yesterday but not as good as tomorrow!

I am off to the city this morning taking my friend for her eye appointment, hope she gets good news like she did at the pacemaker clinic.

Did get some baking done yesterday but need to do a bit more and that is it.

Shirley, Janes cakes are delicious...she shared her recipe with me. :smitten:

Better get a move on.

Hello to Everyfriend!  I was up very early this morning (around 4:30 or so) and got a head start on my candy making.  I finished all the peanut butter cups and I think I have about 25 pounds to divide into bags for Christmas presents for my famiy members and some neighbors and friends.

Tomorrow, I'll pack them up and put them into the family bags and then I'll be wrapping the fruit cake for delivery to church on the last Sunday before Christmas.  SHIRLEY, I'm keeping out one cupcake size one to send to you if I ever get the address.  If I don't get the address, I'll probably have to throw it away because none of my kids like it and I haven't tried it out on my neighbors.

Then on Saturday, I'm making the coconut cups, packing the boxes for Texas and Oklahoma and then going to a Christmas concert with Cathy.  The schedule might be just a bit different because I forget if the concert is in the afternoon or evening.

Frankie doesn't work tomorrow so she's sleeping in and then coming over to give Cooper a bath and then leaving him hear while she makes a grocery run.  I'm making a list for her to take with her of some stuff I need and half-way thinking of going with her.  I'll wait until I see where she's going and then decide!

I wish you all a peaceful night's sleep and a happy tomorrow and may God bless us, every one!

A Good Friday HELLO to all🦋🦋

It is a beautiful day here in the Mile High City.  Storms are ah brewing to the west so we will have a couple of snow events heading our way ⛄️

Yesterday I went to be fitted for and pick up the new CPAP machine I spent a few hours with last night 😩😩. I am not very pleased with this whole process, but will do my best to adjust to it🤪🤪  They do not let you try on the different masks....you just have to choose one from your visual assessment 😡. I was fitted and given instructions and off we went.  The way it fit sitting up was very different than what it felt like laying down.  I was constantly moving something to keep the air from escaping......great night of sleep😩😩 NOT‼️ I lasted 4 hours and said "that's enough for tonight"‼️‼️.

Last night we attended a religious Christmas gathering at one of the private golf clubs in this area.  The building and views were spectacular.  We thought it would be a program done for us to view, but ended up being a Christmas Carol sing along with refreshments and a few words by a pastor.  It ended by going along a path to an outside area with a fireplace...a fire pit and many hanging heaters installed on a huge  covered area.  We were all given candles to light and we sang SILENT NIGHT.  It was beautiful.  This club was built by the owner of ReMax, Dave Liniger and not many are invited there unless you attend a charity event or a wedding.

I wish you all a good day.

Good morning.
We are now back into winter temps 11° at the moment. Yesterday we let the morning fire go out ,then put it on in the evening. Work inside kept me warm washing floors etc.
Laundry awaits and I can hang it outside today.  Doing a bit of baking, then hope to sew.

Jenny , I doubt I could wear a CPAP ,think I would feel I was suffocating in the mask plus I sleep on my stomach or side sometimes.I agree with Jane, that would have been nice to be there in person.

Shirley, everything ok your way?

Better get started with the day, seems they are getting shorter or I am getting slower.

Enjoy your day and stay safe.

Good Morning Everyfriend! and a special "Good Morning, AMY"!  You beat me here this morning!

Yesterday, I finished the coconut cups and I only have two more things to do but first thing today I'm putting together all the stuff that has to be sent so I can see what I'm still missing!  I want to have the packages on the way by Monday...Tuesday at the latest!  And Cathy is standing by for a trip to the Postal services!

I'm going to go with the days getting shorter.  I won't admit that everything takes me longer than it did in years past!

SHIRLEY, I'm wondering about you, too!

I guess I better go get dressed and get some of my "Christmas Package Inventory" done before Cooper appears at 10.  I wish you all a good day...better than yesterday but not as good as tomorrow!

Phyllis, so sorry about the latest ICKY to bite you! The bug I caught from Thanksgiving  time I believe really cost me time on earth. For the Christmas season I am staying away from the great grands because the schools here are even closing from so many sick kids AND teachers!  They can't help being little germ carriers (as well as their parents), but at least the parents should know if they are sick in any way!

I woke up this morning with a new name (I gave myself).... it is Willa Power... and that is the female version of WillPower. The cardiologist ended yesterday with, "when is your next appointment?"...  "'Tis April", I told him. "Good", he said, "Let's keep it"!  SO we will work on that as GOOD NEWS. The doctor was really pleased I am willing to try a water pill & I tried not to say too loudly that I would stop them if the side effects are worse than the swelling, so we will see. For today I am good, Looking like the Pillsbury Dough Boy.......but I am Shirley/Tisie/Willa

Wonderful day to all, the sun is so bright & wind NOT bending trees to the ground, my daughter is off to visit with her grands & maybe even hang around with them after dark so her son & daughter (their parents) can take in an adult Christmas party!

We feel like we have solved a lot of the concerns of what to do with my "stuff" & think the advice given me by my tax guy & what daughter's tax man verified, is what I gonna do.

Peace of mind is such a blessing! This calls for a nap~~

Hello Everyfriend!

PHYLLIS, I'm also glad to hear that you are feeling better!  Keep on keeping on!

I finished another part of the candy job today.  Tomorrow is my last chance.  I wanted to go to church in the morning and a Christmas Concert in the afternoon but there is snow predicted all day beginning at 9 a.m. so I guess we shall see what we shall see

I'm really tired tonight and I was thinking this might be my last year of candy making.  But if I say that too loudly in the family some will try to convince me I'm right and some will try to convince me I'm wrong. So I'm keeping it to myself and only sharing it with my "long-distance" friends!  I know you won't tell them!

The boxes are ALMOST ready to send and we're aiming for a trip to the PO Monday or Tuesday!  The only thing I was worried about being on time was the little kids in OK and theirs are at their MIMI'S house.  That's their Gramma and my daughter.  She's coming to West Chester next weekend for my granddaughter's Master's  graduation and Frankie si going down for that and to spend the weekend with her mother in Maryland.  She'll take the cards for all of them and Cindy will take them home with her!

I'm going to hit the haystack early tonight because I'm tired right down to my shoestrings and that's bad because I'm not wearing shoes!  I wish you all a peaceful night's sleep and a happy tomorrow and may God bless us, every one!

I'm here to say, Good Night, Sweet Dreams, until another day.... was that Dinah Shore but I think different phrase.... and I don't know how to find the melody like y'all do.

Thank you, Rick, we solved one problem by just deciding to put my daughter on the title as co-owner of the house so it will be hers to take her time to clean out what she does not want & what the boys don't want & they can sell or use as tax write offs by donating the rest. She is comfortable with all furniture staying & will make a list of everything & they can together (the 3 of them) decide the value to have as part of HER inheritance. What the boys want (or spouses agree to/or can have & I'm confident there will be no hard feelings at all), they are thrilled for her to have a home here again... they won't be selling the house & she wanted this from the start but I kept telling her that it is NOT a "part time house" because of the pool. She has a son & family plus a daughter that live here, besides the brothers so will get some help to check when she's not here & neighbors will call any of them in case of emergency at the house. She also is thinking about keeping my car for here since she can fly back & forth cheaper than gas to drive. Car has just under 6,000 miles on it & every bell & whistle to drive me nuts (even parking assist & most stuff I do not know how to use)... I will get the house appraised & inspected so we have an accurate figure to go by for price. That will be a big load off our minds & relief to all that nothing has to be moved immediately. The boys are happy to have the money rather than bother with the house... This is the college we did NOT pay for (they paid for their kids college), so is working out like their father planned & I'm doing my best to keep it in the kids hands.

So far the water pill has had no effect on me but the antibiotic has cleared the chest & head from that whatever type bug was. I consider this a true blessing to have time to plan this part of my life, hope y'all don't think I'm TOO crazy. I really am happy & enjoying every (well, most) moment.

Jane, I'm not sending my snail-mail address because I know it is one more thing you would take time out to do and I really am thinking of not just the making & baking part, but the packaging & mailing. The thought of you caring enough gives me the warmest heart you can imagine. Trust me, I will be right there for a big hug when you join me in Heaven! I will hope that is years away for you, but whenever, and will probably have already met your family that will tell me all about you growing up. This is MY idea of Heaven.

And now, my online family, I'm heading to bed. I'm hoping to get an easier oxygen-to-go by next week (backpack type) because this one is a royal pain to drag around. All the straps my son bought still don't make it easy enough to handle in & out of the car so with extended time (hopefully) I'll do what I can to keep going. Sweet dreams & God Bless.  Love y'all

Good Morning Everyfriend!  I already have the small fruitcake for SHIRLEY boxed and ready to go.  If anyone has her address, please send it to me before Tuesday.

SHIRLEY, if you read this later today, send me your address or this fruitcake will end up in the trash.  I don't know anyone else to send it to but you.  And it's ready to go. And by the way, I like your idea of heaven, it's very similar to mine.  I know they're watching!  But let's not check it out just yet!

I'm going to go and get myself ready for church and then try to finish the cards that have to go with Frankie this coming week! And then get started spreading peanut butter on saltines to dip after church or after the concert this afternoon.  Then I can pack up the candy stuff and put it away and be done with that for another year.

AMY, you jumped in while I was typing.  We're supposed to have snow flurries this morning and more snow later this afternoon.  I thought I told you to keep it on your side of the border!

I wish you all a good day...better than yesterday but not as good as tomorrow.

Good Morning Everyone from the Cold and Clear,
Rocky Coast of Maine.

Sorry to hear that so many of us
are not feelisng well...  all the mask
wearing Covid years  being  free from
most bugs,  are now catching up with
us.

I know that I also have been in the grips
of some GRIP,  for a few weeks now.
Not Covid but something and it has been
going through my whole family.

I still wear a mask when I go outside
my apartment.

I think that getting our affairs in order
is good action for us "Old Folks" to
do before it is too late to be able
to get that taken care of.

It is not easy to decide to make
sure that things go the way we
want them to, unless we take the
action to make it happen.

So best wishes to all of us who
try to end things smoothly without
hurting someone's feelings accidentally.

I seem to be getting over the
sick winter blahs that I have had
for the last few weeks.

Feeling better- hope it lasts.

Have a good week EVERYONE!

Sandy

Good morning.

Snow has stopped and we are on our way to the city. After the Krown Rust appointment ,we have one stop then home.Neighbour has an appointment to get her second cataract surgery and won't be home in time for the dogs pill, but we will be.
I did clear the driveway last night so don't have to worry about that. Just hope the snow holds off till we get back home.

Better get my rear in gear and get "stuff" ready for the day.

Enjoy your day and stay safe.

Good Morning Everyfriend!  I'm up and attem this morning.  I've got the fruitcake sitting out waiting for me to wrap the rest of it and then that job will be finished except for delivering it to the church next Sunday.

I'm going to be working on the boxes for Oklahoma and Texas today and I have to take time out for an appointment with my hearing specialist.  I think that's at 2 this afternoon.  So I better get stuff done before I have to get ready for that.

I think tomorrow is Post Office/UPS time but if I get the boxes ready by the time we leave for the dr. office, we might just stop there on the way home and save a trip!

I wish you all a good day...better than yesterday but not as good as tomorrow!

Checking in to say "Shirley is still upright".........not doing any races but still having fun.  Lots to do so gotta keep making those phone calls.

Sandy, sorry about the bug that got you. Do know the one I had was as bad as Covid but was only a few days of the horrible coughing (gunk has let up, even tho I had to have an antibiotic to finally quit coughing the toenails up). Still a cough now & then but better. Was yours the same type? Some around here are also having the barffies with theirs. I wish you well and all the right food & meds to make the days better.

Amy, you are such a good neighbor. I'll bet some of the neighbors couldn't stay in their homes or keep their pets if you weren't near. I would love to have the snow but still do not have my snow blower switched with the new battery powered lawn mower (in the garage). I am working today to switch the battery pack oxygen for a backpack type so my hands are free to use getting in & out of the car or outside to feed the critters, hold on to a wall instead of needing both hands to hang onto the oxygen. You know how it is when in or out, we are rushing along & often have to hang on to a wall or something to keep from falling.  Anyway, one phone call never gets the job done, right?

I do have to run......... ;)  ..........this time it's the water pill dash.  I've never had to take them EVER so another learning experience.   :-[  :o

Sent you my address Jane & so look forward to tasting.... oh, YES!  Thank you....

Wishing ALL a great day. Cloudy & not too cold here.

For once I can add a bit to the kitchen conversation!  My "Project du Jour" was to put together a package of 12 sliders sandwiches and let the brushed on topping soak in while I made Orange Marmalade bread. Got those done with lunch in between.

Cleaned up work space and taking a break until two loaves of bread come out of oven. Will then turn off oven, put sheet of sliders in and let them heat while bread "settles".
Mission accomplished

Bread is for gifting. Sliders are for lunch during the week

Shirley, I did "estate" business with sons last week. Have taken care of that myself for over 30 years but think its time to get them more involved,  As an only child, I'm not always sure how to deal with siblings who are "senior citizens " themselves and have different ideas on how things should be done.

CALLIE, is it all kitchen talk in here?  I'll try to move into the dining room or the living room once in a while.  And I DO take Cooper for a walk sometimes.  And when he's not here, I still take myself for at least one walk a day.

One more box packed.  I want the last 3 to go tomorrow.  I'm working until midnight and then sleeping and whatever isn't finished tonight will have to be finished early tomorrow morning because Cathy wants to hit the PO in the morning.  She's going to a concert with a friend at 4:30 p.m.

There you go CALLIE.  That was bedroom talk.  I'm wrapping the packages in my spare room!

Back to work and then off to bed!  I wish you all a peaceful night's sleep and a happy tomorrow.  And may God bless us, every one!

Callie, my time isn't that interesting.

I spent all my time sans computer, de-cluttering, deep cleaning, and re-organizing my three walkins and the four other rooms. This is the third time; the other two were in 2013 and 2016.

Since it is only about an inch of snow over sheets of ice, I didn't go anywhere, but the call-text- or email local group is still going strong. I also plan to re-organize my filing system over the weekend and look into purchasing a new computer in January, as this one is lent and admittedly in sad shape.

We have a structural building inspection by the bigwigs from the capital this week, and my floor will be inspected this Friday. I was probably not thinking of that before starting this project last week, but luckily the coming inspection spurred me to finish.

In the past, they've always come in, walked around a couple of minutes, said this is nice, and walked out again. I don't expect anything else as it's regularly maintained, only too much accumulation over time.

Good morning...

Yesterday went well and we scurried on home to let all dogs out and later on I went over and gave Rex his pill and Callie her tummy rubs .

Today taking Kyle for blood work then home to work....never ending job that housework .

Weather wise we are to get a good snack of snow on the weekend..

Patricia, good to  see you up and walking....can't say running at I don't think your computer runs fast. But on the plus side you did make it in here.and a new computer awaits in the furture.

Shirley, we are also blessed with good neighbours. When we were running back and forth for Kyle's  chemo our neighbour looked after our dogs. We just work back and forth wwhen needed.

Better move ..time is faster than I am anymore.

Enjoy your day and stay safe.

Hello Everyfriend!  I had my third COVID update shot today and so far, no ill effects.  I'm very tired but I think that's more because I stayed up late last night working on packages for the mail and and got up early today to finish them.  Then I did a lot of walking around looking for things I still need.

When I came home from shopping, Cooper and I had another walk and I did a bit more of my gathering of gifts.  I can hardly keep my eyes open.  I guess it's a good thing I learned touch typing in high school and can still do it!  If I make any mistakes, please forgive me

Now see, CALLIE, there's two paragraphics and nothing from the kitchen.  Okay now, here goes the kitchen.

I made another "What is it" casserole using things in the fridge that needed to be used and boy did it ever turn out good.  It has some left over potato thingys that I bought frozen and some hot sausages both ground up in the food processor.  Then I added a jar of my squash soup and some grated cheese and a few seasonings and topped it with bread crumbs and baked it for about 20 minutes.  I might have forgotten something that I put in but if I did, it was good!

Now I'm going to head for the haystack early and get up early (hopefully without a reaction to the shot)  and work on packing the rest of the candy for the people I'm going to see during the Christmas season!  That's my plan for tomorrow.  That and wrapping presents!  I wish you all a peaceful night's sleep and a happy tomorrow and may God bless us, every one!

Good morning...

So far a snowless day we do have about 3-4 inches ion the ground but they are calling for more  on Fri. Will try to get all our scurring about done before hand.

Going to the grocery stroe is not fun..produce has sky rocketed , romaine lettuce is 8.99 for a 3 pack instead of 3.99.....cauliflower is 6.99!!
No sign of a let up yet.

Will do a bit more baking today and that is it.

Jane, I like refriderator scrambles...my Dad was a great one to do that. Empty the fridge of leftovers and fill the tummy!

Callie, I need to make your sliders ,they are handy to have on hand.

Patricia, how are things your way?

Better get a move on.

Enjoy your day and stay safe.

Well, Good Morning/Afternoon!  I was in here really early this morning and I read and then typed my post and when I went to post it, the computer told me I wasn't hooked up to the internet.  I have no idea how I get here in the first place but Cathy was here and she fixed me up and here I am again.  I sure hope it stays this time.

I have all the candy wrapped except for a few odds and ends that will probably end up in my candy jar.  I have to have some for myself, now don't I!  I made about half what I usually make so people are getting a bit less this year!

I have the bags all set out on the bed in the spare room and stuff piling up beside them.  I think I might make it to Christmas.  One of my regular fruit cake people is now living in assisted living and doesn't travel so I called his daughter this morning and told her I was taking the fruit cakes in on Sunday and maybe she'd want to grab one for her father.  She said she has to work on Sunday but that she was going out in about 15 minutes and she'd be glad to stop by and pick it up for her father.  She did and he'll be delighted!

AMY, my dad used to do those dishes from ght fridge and I forget what he called them.  I'll think about it and maybe remember by the next time I come by!

Now I better get "an egg in my boot and beat it" or I won't get done with what needs to be done today.  Here goes my shot at posting....again!  Have a good day...better than yesterday but not as good as tomorrow.

P.S. Tried to post and saw your post about KYLE, AMY. I hope he heals quickly.  It sounds like he might have hit his head?

Jane , he did hit his head , popping both hearing aids out!!! I told him any ladder work that needs to be done I will do it.
One year while camping we had the refidgerator scramble and Aunt Kess looked at it and turned her nose up. Dad gave her some try....and she came back for seconds!!

Good morning; I'm getting a late start here as my morning local meet and greet ran long. There were also one or two other bumps along that road, but I'm here, and better late than never!

Amy, I am so sorry to hear of Kyle's fall. I hope it's not a dip in blood pressure issue. Falls are dangerous. I hope he listens to you!

Jane, all my meals are refrigerator scambles as I have trouble sticking to recipes as printed. I have a what-if mindset when it comes to recipes.

I received two presents via UPS this morning, one large and one small, and I'm having difficulty not opening them right away. Farrah was very interested in the larger package, hmmm. I emailed my thanks and to let them both know they were received.

I mentioned, only half joking about wanting to open them now, and one quickly told me that she had a long ruler and an incredible reach!  :dizzy:    So, I guess into the closet they'll go...
Title: Re: Soda Shoppe for December 1, 2022

I'm ready for the haystack!  In fact, I think the haystack came and got me because I don't remember the second Mannix at all and Perry Mason was on when my eyes popped open.

I think I'll be ready for Christmas when it comes.  I have two family bags packed and ready to go and 5 more to do.  I'm planning on being snowed in tomorrow so I should get the rest done tomorrow.

PATRICIA, when I was growing up, we always got a box from my Uncle, Aunt and Cousin who lived in Illinois.  Every package in the box was heavily marked by my aunt "DO NOT OPEN UNTIL CHRISTMAS"!  My sister and I were as curious as could be and on the Sunday after the package arrived, my Mother and my Grandmother would let us open ours after we solemnly promised that we would NEVER tell Cousin Barbara or Aunt Thelma we did it!

AMY, climbing ladders isn't such a good idea for any of us as we get older.  If I have to change the light bulb in the hall, I pray that daughter Cathy won't come in the door because I have orders from her to stay off the step ladder!  But if I don't change it, my hall is as dark as a dungeon!

Now I'm off to the haystack!  I wish you all a peaceful night's sleep and happy tomorrow!

Sweet dreams and God Bless, my eyes are at half mast and brain already snoring.... We did get a lot taken care of today. My daughter plans to go home on Sat for a week of rest!!!

Patricia, glad you are back online & doing okay. My computer had 2 updates today & gave me a hard time trying to take over so turned it off & back on & dared it to try to bully again.

Amy, so sorry about Kyle's fall. He is not going to get a lecture from me 'cause I'm also guilty of being on ladders often. My next life I am going to put in for extenders to my feet.

Jane, you are one of the most ambitious people I know. Between you & Amy doing all that baking I feel so guilty my house hasn't had a bread or cooking baking odor for YEARS. I need to think about that. On my list!

Lloyd, wish you could find something to do to make you happy. Can you think of some way to do something special for that granddaughter that does so much for you?  Today I cooked a chuck roast for my youngest son. He loves it when I cook for him, he takes it home to use for his lunches, he got to visit with his sister, too. Tomorrow I am fixing another chuck roast with potatoes & green beans with onions & having the other son & his wife over while big sis is here. He can eat a whole skillet full of green beans by himself. I cut up an onion & saute in a big chunk of butter & then drain half the water off a couple cans of french style green beans to dump into the onions & cook down until liquid all gone & they are yummy. Of course that calls for cranberry sauce or jello or something. We all eat enough salads I don't mess with them with this meal! Anyway, makes ME happy to make them happy.  When I was little and WWII started I thought it was MY JOB to make everyone smile, guess that's been my goal all my life. Does keep life fun.....

And now I have to get to bed, long day & this old gal is tired. Love y'all. Shirley

Jane, he has been told ,call me if you need something up hogh.....we will see how far that goes....men are tad stubborn.Or should we say pride goes before a fall. :2funny:

Shirley,Kyle is no worse for wear other than the elbows, ribs and bump on his head. This is the second time he has had this happen, cement floor is unforgiving.

Will just continue on with my day ,lots to do  that didn't get done but some will today.

We have been out to get sand and stock up on milk. we have fuel  for the generator and snowblower if needed.

A miracle happened at this house!!! Kyle came in and asked me to go up the ladder for him......I am still in awe that a man listened. :))

NY State --- Cold, rainy, dark. nasty out. But NOT snowing at this time. --- Well, that is in the NYC area. More than likely Upstate and inland it is snowing. I have had a light on all day because it is so dark.

My plan for this evening was to sit in front of the TV and watch Mannix and knit.  Well, I can still sit in front of the TV and knit but Mannix is snowed in and can't make it to my TV set!

Thank you Rick, I just talked with David, he said it was raining ,sleet and then snow where he came through. He is now in Ontario and is ready to park up and get his supper.

Jane, I am more than ready to sit and watch tv........not sure what is on but work is done for the day.  Resting up for the dance in the morning..

AMY, I saw a picture on facebook of where David was and he was on Rte 15 which passes within walking distance of my house.  If I stood on my roof I could probably have waved at him.  It was just off Rte. 15 where we met a couple of times.  In fact, that's where I met up with Lloyd and Nancy when they were traveling!  And he's right about the roads but they sure do get them cleaned off in a hurry!

I'm on my way to bed and tomorrow, Frankie and Cooper will be on the way to her mother's house and then Courtney's graduation on Saturday!  I have directions for watching it on line and I'm looking forward to doing that!  I got a copy of the program and a way into the auditorium!  I sure hope I'm smart enough to get there and that there are no "bugs" in my computer!

I'm off to bed now.  I got all the Christmas presents wrapped today and the stuff all cleaned up!  My packages will arrive in OK tomorrow.  I bet the kids will be excited!

I wish Kyle well and I wish you all a peaceful night's sleep and a happy tomorrow and may God bless us every one!

Good Morning to me and anyone else who shows up today!  I'm waiting for my coffee and then I'm going finish up a few odds and ends and see Frankie and Cooper off on their trip and do a bit of cleaning and maybe some cooking later in the day.

The roads are all cleared but we however, the weather report says "possible snow flurries in the next hour".  The rest of the day looks clear!  I forgot to plug in my phone overnight so that's next on my agenda!

I wish you all a good day...better than yesterday but not as good as tomorrow!

Good morning..

It's beginning to look a lot like Christmas..it is so beautiful outside!!
I know...lots of work to do clearing it also.....and so the dance begins..

Jane, stay off the roof, that's Santa's spot!! He sent me photos and later on after snow blowing I will send them on to you. He should make it home today.

Better get my snow blowing gear on.

Enjoy your day and stay safe.

No snow here but rain...and we needed that.  Sun is trying to break through and that will make my world a brighter place outside of my window.

David will pick up groceries later this morning and hopefully that will be the end of food needs for Christmas.  Since I don't bake or make candy any more I order everything brought in from local store and on-line stores.  It may not be traditional home-made goodies but it makes a good substitute.

Hope Kyle is healing from his fall, Amy, and that your David is home safely.

Enjoy Courtney's graduation on Saturday, Jane.  It is nice that these celebrations are shown on line now otherwise those of us who don't get out much wouldn't be able to see them and feel proud.

Hope you've solved your oxygen supply problems, Shirley.

Must get busy.  Take care, ALL.

Good Morning.  I'm "helping" the housekeeper by Staying Out Of Her Way  ;)

Have done some more baking - 3 big loaves and 2 small ones of Orange Marmalade Bread - all to be given away and Thumbprint Cookies with Raspberry Jam.  That's it unless I "must" make the Chocolate Dessert Nobody Can Do Without for Christmas dinner.

That event is "iffy" because all weather gurus are predicting (over and over and.... >:( ) temperatures below freezing and strong north winds making wind chill below zero from the 22nd until....who knows when?  The last three Christmases have been interrupted by back surgeries and Covid.  Was hoping this one could be celebrated by all family members but.... :-\

Good news is that Dil's 3rd cancer med has not spiked her liver enzymes and she feels great!
Dil that had the insert for nerve pain is back at work and the insert seems to be working.  Still don't understand quite how it does but glad it is!

Amy,  I hope Kyle is recovering from his fall. Good that he asked for help in climbing.

Jane,  I was able to "electronically" watch 2 college graduations and several softball tournament finals that Miss Emily was in.  Really neat for Grandmothers to be able to do that.

I hear the vacuum cleaner coming.  Better get ready to move to a new location.

Stay warm and well, Everyfriend.

Amy, shall we put your name in for "So You Think You Can Dance" or "Dancing with the Stars"?  Bet you and that snow blower could win either of those contests!!  Stay Warm out there!  My best wishes to Kyle. I have personal experience with "falling". It is not something you wish to become "good" at! In that effort, "practice makes boo-boos", not perfect! Hope your weather is something you've become good at and that it doesn't interfere with your Christmas celebrations.  Oh, and may I say I think you're wonderful for taking such good care of your neighbors.

Snow blowing is done for now...it is more of a wet snow falling now. Great for making snowball and snowmen!

Phyllis, thank you. Kyle is feeling the effects of his trip more today and is resting at the moment. there comes a time in life where we have to pass the cooking on to others, just like our folks did in the past.

Callie , I like the news that your dil treatment is going well..one gives a sigh of relief there. I must admit your Marmalade bread sounds good. Now would be the time for me to make marmalde as we have the cookstove going all day and a batch of marmalade has to simmer half way down . Amen for his asking... :)

Tome, thank you but I am too pooped to prance:)) I am sure some of my movement with Mr SB would bring some/lot of giggles.
Thank you for the wishes for Kyle.today is not a good day but if he rests and takes it easy it may be better tomorrow. We don't bounce like we used to when we fell.

Again, thank you. Our neighbours are just as wonderful back to us. When on the farm it seemed everyone helped each other when needed and that has carried on here. More hands make light work for all. We are to go to Davids for Christmas  and I also hope the weather behaves. Still snowing out here but it is also melting??

It's minus 24 presently, and we are headed down into the wormhole of minuses to either minus forty or minus fifty. And no, nothing shuts down or possibly the schools if it goes to minus forty or lower. The news says, "Clear and very cold; extreme cold can be dangerous for outdoor activities." I hope those new to the area and military folks take note.

I thought yesterday being a "schools closed" would be a good time to deliver my lollipops to the local kids.  So that's what we did yesterday.

Today, I made cabbage soup over a recipe my sister passed on to me when I was visiting her.  Sh didn't have any made but it sounded good and she said it was so I brought the recipe home with me.  We shall see!  It's simmering for supper.  I think I'll put my shoes...and my coat, hat, scarf and gloves on and walk down and see if the mailman remembered where I live.  I'm really looking forward to SPRING!  I do not like coats, hats, scarves, gloves and boots!

The garbage truck had not yet showed up at 2 p.m. and I was just about to call and ask if they were still out when they called with an automated message saying that they would not make it today but to leave the can out because they would be here tomorrow!

Now I'm going OUT in this awful weather!  I hope you are all having a better day.  AMY, a doctor told me "way back when" that if you fall, you might not feel the effects for two, sometimes three days.  I guess that's what happened with Kyle!

I'll let you know how the soup is!

Jane, I saw pictures on my AOL feed about terrible slick roadways, as well as the snow in Pennsylvania.  Hope you can weather (pardon the pun) this cold onslaught.  If it's slick out on your sidewalk, please, please don't slip and fall.  That cabbage soup sounds so good, but I wouldn't have anyone to help me eat it.
My daughter has blossomed out to eating(and cooking) new and different things. But she has several dislikes (won't eat) that Ijust love.  I like cabbage, I love liver and onions, also liverwurst.  I often have sardines in mustard sauce on crackers for a lunch.  I make sure I don't go out in polite company with sardine breath though.  LOL.
Take care, keep cooking and passing along your recipes. And next year, I will give you my snail mail address so if you have an extra fruit cake...hmmm!

Hello Everyfriend!  It's been a busy day here and I'm kind of glad it's time for the haystack to be looking for me!

I finished 3 loads of laundry and it's all folded and put away.  I just poured the leftover soup into containers and put it in the fridge.  I covered the swing on the porch too late for the storm but ready for the next one.  Put in some time on my knitting (I need to finish one more item before my granddaughter comes up for a visit between Christmas and New Years).  I miss my Cooper and he won't be back until Tuesday!  Cathy stopped by and got my list and did some shopping for me this afternoon.

TOMEREADER, you should have spoken up sooner.  I could have swiped another little one out of the basket that's going to church.  It's all donated...not ordered.  My mother used to make a "ton" of it for the Christmas Bazaar's that the the church had back when they were paying for the new building and I couldn't stop making it after she was gone.  My family doesn't eat it so I take it to the church and tell them to help themselves and make a donation to their favorite church charity!

They were pretty quick to treat the roads around here.  In fact, whatever it is they use on the roads, they're able to put some of it down even before the snow and ice begins to fall.  By the time I was up and about this morning the roads were pretty clear.

I have a few odd jobs to finish up before I can climb into the haystack for the night.  I wish you all a peaceful night's sleep and a happy tomorrow.  And may God bless us, every one!

CALLIE, send me the recipe, too!

Around here for the last few years they have been spraying BRINE on the roads before the snow starts. It doesn't blow or roll off like sale does and seems to work fairly well if it's not too cold.

My husband and I both liked fruitcake, and I would always order one for Christmas from that famous Fruitcake place (you might know I can't think of the name of it right now). If he would go to the store with me, and see a small, no-name fruitcake, he would always put it in the shopping basket. Sometimes they were good, sometimes not. I haven't had any fruitcake for 4 years since he's not here to enjoy it!

We also were fruitcake fans. My parents always had them at Christmas - and into the following months.
For a few years after I retired I made fruitcake, and Stollen.  No longer do the fruitcake, but still love and have Stollen. When A&P was still around we would get "Jane Parker" fruitcakes - but now they're gone. I  still get ads from the Pecan place in Texas that sells fruitcake.

Not much snow to deal with this morning, shovel should take care of it I hope.

Made a huge pot of chicken soup yesterday ,some for lunch today and some for later.

Need to finish up wrapping the gifts and I need to get something for Kyle.he is always with me making it difficult to buy for him. Usually by this time everything is done but just can't seem to get with it.

Rick ,do you remember the spice cake from A&P? We used to get that one but now that they are gone...no cake. :(

Callie since (Copy/paste is a marvelous invention!!! ) will you also send me your recipe . Thank you.

Jane, I hit the bed at 8:30 last night, tried to watch tv but the slamming of my eyes kept waking me up and I do know where bed is.

Shirley, how is the weather there...did you get a lot of snow?

Better get at it..seems my energy runs out quicker than I want it to anymore.

Enjoy your day and stay safe.

Good Morning/Afternoon Everyfriend!  I'm just managing to get in here today.  Granddaughter Courtney's Masters Graduation was on line at 9 a.m. this morning and I HAD to be there!  I am so proud of her!  However, sitting on this chair and watching the screen for more than an hour and a half worked havoc on my eyes and another part of my body.  I went for a long walk to get my body working again.

PATRICIA, I can't post the fruit cake recipe until I ask because my mother inherited it from the church and that's where it basically belongs.  I was sharing a cake with SHIRLEY.  And I make it as a donation to my church every Christmas.  Maybe next year, I should just make an extra batch and share it with my on line friends.  I guess we'll she what SHIRLEY reports!

RICK, your right!  It's brine that they use to treat the roads in advance!  Thanks for reminding me

Now I better get to work!  I still have one item to finish knitting but she won't be around until sometime during the week between Christmas and New Year's.  I'm thinking probably New Year's weekend.  She young enough to celebrate with the two young cousins who live here!

Have a good day...better than yesterday but not as good as tomorrow!

Jane's fruitcake is to die for!!!  It is truly, honestly for sure, the best fruit cake I have EVER tasted! I never raved about fruitcake before, have tasted and loved Stollen, but this has a flavor unknown to me. Anyone that can bake, for sure, needs to get Jane's recipe!  Many, many thanks. I really would love to see the recipe or watch you put it together.... too late for me to learn to bake it, but give me another year & I would try!

Thank you, Jane, your good deed has made quite an impression on everyone I blabbled to around here. All want to know if you walk on water! The fruitcake is delicious but the thoughtfullness of the act is amazing to all.

Merry Christmas in case I don't get back in here, I'm still learning how to navigate this part of life & only regrets so far is being a pac rat for all my life! Every drawer I go through has a ton of memories and junk hiding inside.

The sun is bright/blinding but feels good in the house.

Good morning; it's minus 27 and going down in the Interior.

Jane, please don't make any special effort; I know how busy you are.

Callie, I sent you a PM.

Amy, I remember how hard shopping for a husband or significant other was for me. I would put a lot of time and effort into it and was never quite sure if it was worth it.

I  always finish early because I send money orders and the nieces and nephews no longer send gifts back and forth with me. I stopped that a couple of years ago as I was awash in food, drink, and craft club Christmas gifts.

I've posted the Orange Marmalade Bread recipe in "What's For Dinner" (and replied to your message, Patricia).  I did an on-line search for the recipe and didn't find any that were like mine. I don't know how to make a link to another Forum.

Don't remember where I got it but know I've been making it for over 30 years.

All the gift cards I ordered on-line have arrived and Project du Afternoon is to get them ready to put around the two table-top trees.

Hello Everyfriend!

SHIRLEY, was that me you were talking about?  It sounded like some kind of miracle worker!

Unfortunately, the fruitcake has to be made by the beginning of November and then set in a cool place to age!  That's part of the reason I can't just whip up another batch.  Making it isn't the big part.  The big part is making sure it has time to age!  Back in my mother's day of making all the ones she did for the church we all helped.  My grandmother sat and cut dates.  My mother mixed until the last stirring and then my father put his muscle to the job.  My sister and I lined pans and then unlined the cakes when they were cooled and we all wrapped them and tied red and green yarn bows on them.  I even had a friend who loved to come over and help.  She'd call and ask me to do something when we were teens and if I said I couldn't she'd always say "Is it fruit cake day?"  And if I said it was, she'd say "I'll be right over".

This is a job that still brings my parents close to me!  Vegetable soup is another one that brings my father in my kitchen.  That was his donation to the Church Christmas Bazaars!

Now I have to go close my eyes before they close without my consent!  I'm tired right down to my sox!  And I'm sleepier then usual!  I wish you all a peaceful night's sleep and a happy tomorrow, and may God bless us, every one!

Rick, Klye loves that pudding if you're talking about tapioca pudding.  You used to be able to buy different sizes large ,medium, small but it seems all that the stores have is minute now.I did buy a 10lb bag of medium from the Mennonites and I am slowly working through it.

Good Morning Everyfriend!  I'm up and attem and NOT ready to go yet.  But I will be when it's time to get ready for church!

RICK, if they're right and it IS tapioca pudding, we had it often when we were kids.  It must have been one of my grandfather's favorites because I'm pretty sure he was the one who made it.  I loved it and my sister tolerated it but I think she grew to like it over the years!

I'm in the middle of my last knitted dish towel.  I decided I needed one more for a Christmas present for my good neighbor across the street and I still had the yarn for one more.  So when I sit down to rest it jumps into my hands and do a few row while I rest my body!

I wish you all a good day...better than yesterday but not as good as tomorrow!

Tapioca pudding it is. A favorite of mine as a kid, Don't think my brother cared for it. I haven't had much of it in recent times. We have some commercially made and in plastic cups, but it is not like the old "Made the long way" pudding.

Patricia, you are so talkative... :cup:  :hello:

I remembered what I wanted to ask about yesterday, December 17th. Is it a holiday I've forgotten and could not find online for Alaska or the US?

At 8 pm last night and lasting until 10, the city plaza, a block from my building, set off fireworks and not a tiny display. They had all types, including the reverberating boomers that seemingly shook my building. It had to be sanctioned due to the number, variety, and length of the fireworks, and I was hoping they would give up sooner than they did

Farrah decided to spend that time in the tub, and I also wished I had an escape route.

Okay, Patricia, I'm in a silly mood today & NO, I am not taking any funny pills.... but what you said while ago struck me funny....
Quotefrom Patricia.."Amy, I remember how hard shopping for a husband or significant other was for me. I would put a lot of time and effort into it and was never quite sure if it was worth it."
Do you have a preference if his eyes are blue or brown, at our age hair is a moot point (gray or none), tall or short, I hear shopping is half the fun... :2funny:

I'm ready for a nap, twas a short night & busy day so far. My poor daughter is worn to a nub & she's doing only half was I've been doing all day/every day. But she does take time off to go watch her grands soccer practices or games & other things. I am shocked every day when I find something else a real struggle to do, but still doing!

Weather is about to show winter colors so the next week (of holiday traveling) will be just watch what happens! We had damp driveway but so far not slick. I did get a new bird bath warmer and was pleased to see how many flit right over to slurp.

Happy Hanukkah Bubble..

By the way, my mother fixed tapioca and my youngest brother would eat everyone's shares if he could. She also fixed "sweet rice" which was just soft cooked rice with milk, sugar and cinnamon. I plan to fix some later today, only I cheat & use minute rice but do cook a tad longer than what the box says & add the milk & sugar when finished boiling. You know the "scum" from boiling milk so don't do that!

At one time I had a recipe for fisheye something but can't remember what, some kind of salad.  Well, thinking just pushed me over the edge so off to take a nap!

Thank you, everyone, for the suggestions, humor, and ideas. I had two marriages and a long-term commitment, so shopping for a husband isn't necessarily one of my strong points, although some inherent comedic elements were involved.

I have never forgotten how proud my first husband was that he gave me a vacuum and rug cleaner combo for our first Christmas and didn't understand why I wasn't similarly enthused. Or when my second called me at a friend's to come home as he was hungry. I mentioned there was hamburger in the fridge, and he didn't know what to do with it. His attempt set off the fire alarm!

I discovered the firecrackers were a celebration for the Solstice on the 21st. However, everyone is changing holiday dates to bring in the most customers...er celebrants. It's important here as, after the Winter Solstice, we begin regaining daylight minute by minute until the 24/7 summer daylight begins to wane after the Summer Solstice in June. We're at 3 hours and 55 minutes at present minus 32. The more darkness, the colder it gets, and the more light we have, the warmer it will get.

PATRICIA, back in the "old days" most men weren't raised to cook for themselves.  However, my father grew up on a farm in a family of 7 brothers and one sister who died at the age of 12.  They could all cook and most of them liked doing it.  I grew up with 2 men in the house who were both cooks...my father from the farm and my other grandfather who was the son of a professional baker and who worked in the bakery they owned.  I was used to men who were used to the kitchen.  My husband's first words in the door after work were usually "What's for dinner?"  He was definitely NOT a cook.  If he was on his own, he ate out!

Got a bunch of stuff done today.  The knitted dish towel for my neighbor is almost finished!  I think I'll make it on time.  I still have a little candy to bag but that won't take lone and it'll be good to get it out of the fridge.  At least I'll know what I have in there that I can eat!

Church was good today and even the "after church" was good!  Lots of people were asking questions about the fruit cake and I gave out a lot of church history!

I started to watch the Perry Mason movie tonight and I made the mistake of snuggling under a blanket.  I think I might have seen 15 minutes of the movie and Emergency was on when I woke up!  I shouldn't let myself get comfortable!

Now I'm off to the haystack.  I wish you all a peaceful night's sleep and a happy tomorrow and may God bless us, every one!

My father also could cook but didn't until Mom got too bad to do it.  I have a sneaky feeling the guys he went deer & antelope hunting with in CO wanted him along for his input in how to cook in the high altitude and also because he could fix anything, I do mean ANYTHING that broke. Could be I'm a tad prejudice but we were kinda daddys girls, huh, Jane? Cas was the same if I wasn't home, he would eat out (pick up fast food) or need to go out of town. I never went anywhere I couldn't take the kids when they lived at home.

Good sport, Patricia....  ;)    Not everyone enjoys being teased but with 3 brothers, I got more than my share of it & learned to tease back with the best of 'em.

Rick has been my brother since my last one died so glad the sense of humor is intack, Rick!

Jane, hope someone remembers to tell others the story behind the fruitcake, I am very impressed with what kind people you came from. My mother used to bake cupcakes to take to nursing homes but one lady whispered to her that "if she left them with the desk they didn't get to the patients", so Mom would pass them out if allowed & quit when they said THEY would have to deliver. I know there is a health risk if not cleared first, but that wasn't the reason they gave. Anyway, think your mother had a big heart!...and a good recipe!

My daughter goes back to St.Louis tomorrow, until the day after Christmas. Almost all those still working have the days off until after New Year Day, so great for visiting if the weather plays nice. I am off to bed, can't seem to get there until near midnight but the load of clothes just got out of the dryer & I am done.

Sweet dreams & God Bless. Love y'all....... Shirley

Good morning..

Seems we needed more snow and got it during the night. May be able to deal with it,with the shovel ,will see when I go out. Today is finish up the gifts and either today or tomorrow go shopping for my husband. I know what I want and it is a matter of getting away on my own.

My son is a fantastic cook, when home they will have the smoker going along with the BBQ and make meals for the following week for him. A couple of weeks ago they made bologna and said they will never buy it in the store again, this is much nicer.

Speaking of food I will put on a pot of baked beans in the instant pot.

Rick, that tapioca pudding topped off our supper last night. A dab of whipped cream with cherry on top and tasty!!

Shirley, Mom used to make a rice dish. She would cook the rice, drain, put a bit of sugar on it place a plate on top and let it set in the fridge over night. Next day drain any liquid that had accumulate ,then fold in whipped cream..not sure if that was called angels in the snow but it sure was delicious!!

Better get ready to met the day.

Enjoy your day and stay safe.

Good Morning Everyfriend!  It's a cold one here...still only up to the high 20s!  Brrrr!  I know, I know!  It's a lot colder where you are, AMY but this cold enough for me!  In fact, it's TOO cold for me!

I've been up a while and I'm still in my jammies but I'm going to have to go get dressed.  Cathy has an appointment at the dr. for her knew and I hope she doesn't have the same thing I did at about that age!  I needed surgery because there wasn't anything to keep the bones from rubbing against each other at the knee!!

Today will be a day in the kitchen.  I have to come up with something to eat for the next couple of days and I have to wrap the rest of the candy.  That's what's planned for today.  Of course, I'll have to pick up the knitting at some point.  I usually do that, when I get tired of standing and need a short rest.

LLOYD, RICK is right about getting the kids to help you get on track with your computer.  They grew up with them and it's like asking you to fix a doorknob or a faucet!

I wish you all a good day...better than yesterday but not as good as tomorrow.

Your Hanukah and my Christmas sound the same, Bubble.  Very quiet.  That's OK....at my age "quiet" is good.

I loved Tapioca Pudding when I was a kid.....until my older brother convinced me I was eating fish eyes.  Haven't liked it since.  Flavor is all right but, don't like the feel.  It is still fish eyes to me.   ;D

I'll go look in the pantry to see if I have some beans, Amy.  That sounds good to me, too, on a cold day.

Take care, All.

For DAYS I have intended to post something and today s the day that I am going to get er' done🤪🤪‼️‼️

I love each and every one of your posts.....so thank you ALL for keeping up this wonderful thread of ours❣️

One day I read the posts then went to the recipe thread and just read and read all of the great recipes that have been shared.  I love tapioca and have not made it in years😩😩 Bob said his little English Grandmother made it almost everyday, and he loves it too‼️‼️

I have some WONDERFUL and very exciting news to share.  I saw an orthopedic doctor last week that specializes in nerve damage.  He gave me news that I was sure I may never hear.  He sees enough life in my damaged actuary nerve that he is willing to go forth with a surgery that should give me "some" of my shoulder movement back so that I can at least get my arm away from my body....I was SO EXCITED to hear this.  There is no downside to this repair at all, and even if I only get a bit more movement it will be worth it!  He said he can also stabilize my reverse shoulder so it is less likely to be dislocated as easily.  A win win for me.  He takes a nerve from an area that has many nerves, so it is not like stealing from Peter to pay Paul‼️‼️. He hoped to be able to put me on his January schedule which would be the first Thursday in January.  🙏🙏🙏 this will be the day.  He not does this surgery the first Thursday of the month‼️‼️

AMY, I was sorry to ready about Kyle's fall, but pleased to read he did listen to you about asking for help‼️

JANE, I was so happy for you to be able to watch Courtney's graduation online.  The next best thing when we can not be there in person🥰🥰

CALLIE, I am so pleased that both of your dial's are doing well health wise🥰

SHIRLEY, love reading all you have going on too.

PHYLLIS....always enjoy seeing posts from you as well🥰

PATRICIA....always enjoy hearing what is going on in your world ❣️ The fireworks display sounded quite special, but poor Farrah....having to hide in the bath tub😩😩

HAPPY HANUKKA BUBBLE.

Too many interruptions so I best get this posted before it gets away from me‼️

Have a great day, EVERYFRIEND🎄🎄

Jenny

Good morning, another frigid day, presently at minus 32. I still have my files to put into the new folders and my new fireproof box, but I'm being lazy, under a throw on the couch.

My dad was a product of his time, he didn't cook, but his mother used to say he could bake. That was evidently before marriage. My mother was in charge of any inside jobs, although she also helped with the garden and raking leaves when she wasn't working as a secretary.

My dad was a welder and had a sideline of designing flower stands, gates, decorative fencing, and building inboard river boats and, later, jet boats. He maintained the outside of the house, hunted, and fished. He felt children were to be seen and not heard, but a good labor pool.

We grew up before statehood, and it was nothing like it is now, there were lots of things you didn't have, and every one each family contributed and pulled their weight.

What someone called sweet rice was what my mother made for us when we were sick.

Christmas will also be very quiet here in this frigid season, with everyone staying home.

I have various dried beans, and I always have some made up in the fridge. I toss some into different soups, stews, and salads. I rarely make a pot of only beans, but when I used to, it was with rice.

I need to find some cat grass for Farrah, she hasn't had it for a while, and yesterday, when I watered my plants, she kept trying to eat them until I had to lock her in the bedroom. Normally they are six feet up on an inaccessible shelf. I don't know if you know that spider plants smell and taste as good as catnip to most cats, and evidently, Farrah is not particular; she likes every plant I have!

Jenny, I am so happy to hear your news and hope everything works well or better, and so soon!

Yard is all cleaned up plus out back for the dogs...trails have been made .

Mail lady just dropped in with a parcel...Patricia, I know now what you are going through!!! Do I...don't I....jeepers do I have to wait???

Bubble, I haven't tried olives with beans but worth a try, my son loves olives!!

Rick, these beans are from scratch with a tad of hot mustard in them. I also agreee with the hot dogs and beans..delicious!!

Jenny what fantastic news and a welcomed Christmas present!!!

Better get back at it...........hmm will put the box out of sight out of mind..........ha ha ha as if.

Amy, I'm glad I'm not the only one with a pile in the back closet!  ::)

Farrah is very interested in a big, flat box. I believe there may be cat treats or some dried meats for as considerable interest as she took in the box before I put them away.

I admit I opened all the products in Doctor Teel's advent calendar and my essential oils advent calendar gifts. I can't be expected to be good all the time!

Hello my friends!  I'm a believer that when a special box comes in the mail, we don't wait to open it!  We spread Christmas over the days preceding it's arrival.  Everything adds up to Christmas and if we weren't supposed to open what comes in the mail, it wouldn't come until Christmas!

I received a package in the mail today and I opened it!  I loved everything in it including the packaging!

JENNY, nice to see you in here and I'm delighted with your news!  I can hardly wait to hear the outcome!

PHYLLIS, keep coming back.  We miss you when you're not here!

Olives in the beans...that's what I'm missing!  I do add some hot mustard and a little ketchup.  Now I'm going to have to have beans with olives in them tomorrow!  Is there anything else I should try?

Now I'm going to hit the haystack before my eyes clunk shut so hard they shake the house.  I'm as sleepy as if I haven't slept in a coon's age!  And Cooper will be here tomorrow BEFORE the crack of dawn!

Happy Hanukkah, Bubble.  Or have I missed it completely?

I wish you all a peaceful night's sleep and a happy tomorrow and may God bless us, every one!

Jane, I like your beliefs..and yes I did open my parcel from a far. I also love everything in it and will be enjoying the goodies today.

Patricia, yes, I broke down and opened mine. I must say it was so exciting not only did I enjoy what was in it but I carefully flattened the packing paper so I could read about the area it came from.

Rick....now you have me thinking on lentil soup!! My friend gave me a bag of them and after we are done the chicken soup I will be making Phyllis's lentil soup.

Good Morning Everyfriend!  Cooper and I had a very long walk this morning and it's freezing out there...and I do mean freezing.  It's only up to 32º so far today!  And it's heading for the teens overnight again tonight!

Cooper did his usual "I want to go out in the yard" when we got back from the walk but he never ventured off the porch.  He's back inside now and doing his barking out the window!  Smart doggie!

AMY, was there anything interesting in the newspaper that you flattened to read?  That's something that my uncle always used to do when he got packages from home!  He said it got him up to date.  Ours from them was always stuffed with funny papers because that was his job.  He printed funny papers!  We got to read some that our papers didn't include.  Pretty neat!

I guess I better get moving.  I noticed that the sweeper needs to crawl out of the closet and get to work today but I think I'll have to go remind it!  It never seems to get that on it's own!

I wish you all a good day...better than yesterday but not as good as tomorrow!

Works for me Patricia. :roflBig:  :walkwhistle:

Trying to get talking to someone from the companies is the hard part. I did manage to speak with one young lad and found him very helpful. It will be up to the SIL which way she wants to go. She doesn't have a cell phone or internet so relies on the landline but if folks are not going to answer ,they shouldn't be given the business.

On a somber note. I had a call from  our neighbour tell us that a neighbour on the back line passed. Both she and her husband had the flu and he rallied around but she didn't. They sent her to 3 hospitals, put her in an induced coma. Brought her out because her kidneys were shutting down to put her on dialysis but she passed..47 years old.
I hope everyone that can gets their flu shot.

Had a lovely experience today at HOme Depot.  Was looking for a dryer vent contraption that my daughter had send me a picture of, to replace the old accordion type, which has blown out, so to speak. She and I tried getting a new one on the other day = major fail.  Anyway, at Home Depot, I stopped to show the pic to an employee, and she directed me to where it was supposed to be. Ha ha ha.  Didn't have it, she had followed me to that aisle, and I had another item I needed to know the location of, she sent me there, but the guy behind the paint counter had no idea what I was talking about.  She again followed me to where he "thought" it might be, and helped me pick out what I needed.  Then, I said, "I'm goig to ask a stupid question, and she led me right to where they actually had what I was looking for.  The she took me to the "service callout desk" and set me up to get a contractor to contact me about finishing my laundry room. This was from the freeze last year, and I still couldn't find anyone willing to work.  Very rarely does one find an employee who will help you find anything you ask for, and follow you to make sure you found it! Needless to say, I wished her a very, Merry Christmas, and told her I'd give her a good word when they asked me on line to talk about my HD experience.

I'm tired right up one side of my body and an all the way down the other side!  I vacuumed all the floors in the house then mopped the bared ones and dusted everything else in sight!  It took me off and on all day and I'm ready to hit the haystack!

I also took Cooper on two nice long walks!  Or did he take me?  I finished the knitting and blocked the finished product and it's ready to wrap.  Cathy called and changed the shopping day to tomorrow and I have to get to bed early and get my mind and body working so I don't forget anything at the store!

I wish you all a peaceful night's sleep and a happy tomorrow and may God bless us, every one!

Guess who is going to bed early???  Yep, I'm heading for jammies. Our un-speakable weather is supposed to hit tomorrow night so I hope to get outside to cut some holly mid-day.  This is the first time in 33 years the bush (it is taller than the peak of the house/roof & was cut back a lot a few years ago when I had the house painted)....has red berries all over & the dark green leaves like a picture. I offered some to anyone that wants but will only cut what I need to make an arrangement for my sweet neighbors.

I made it to the basement while ago to bring up the crystal bowl & metal container that fits inside to hold the candle & green stuff you put the branches in... Had bought new green stuff and think I got the wrong kind again!  Will put it in another bowl tonight to see if it holds water.... but doesn't feel like it is.  :-[  :'(  I do have the floral tape/sticky stuff to put on bottom to hold it to the glass. A lot to do about nothing but I hope it pleases them. Don't think they have a holly bush at their house.

Lloyd, I'm going to turn on the TV in my bedroom tonight & hope to find a good western to watch.  I actually found one this week I had not seen before!!! Haven't seen a single Christmas movie.... don't get the Hallmark on my little antennas that pin to the wall but get all the local stations plus 50-60 others, ME, MY, GRIT & enough to keep me happy!

Phyllis, every time I've checked in here today I smile at your winter scene. Somewhere I have an enlarged photo my brother took when I was a kid, that is just about like that. His was back in the "black & white" era & I remember the sight behind our house so well.

Sorry about your neighbor, Amy, whatever that latest flu is, tis a mean one.  I do think it took the starch out of me in those few days. I don't even know how many days I was sick... from the day after Thanksgiving & brain still fuzzy~~~

I'm off to bed. God Bless & sweet dreams to all. I'll turn out the lights, Jane. Love y'all......Shirley/Tisie

Good morning..

Will be going to sil's in a while, then home to chase dust kangaroos. The weather for this weekend is not looking good , rain and snow on the forecast.

Tome, I would be phoning the company and telling them just how helpful that young lady was. In this day and age it is a blessing when someone like her go out of their way to be helpful. We do get those surveys here and they ask if anyone has been helpful but I also will go to the manager/owner and tell him what a great employee they have.

Shirley,do you have a photo of your holly tree? I have only seen little potted plants here of holly, can't imagine what a tree would look like. Does it have the berries on it year round or is it seasonal with the berries?

Better get going...

Enjoy your day and stay safe.

Good Morning Everyfriend!  I overslept this morning and didn't wake up until Frankie called to say that she and Cooper were already on the way!  I guess I forgot to set the alarm last night and I slept so soundly I almost missed the phone call.

AMY, I forgot to say I'm sorry about your neighbor.  This is a bad time to lose a loved one.  I know that because we lost my father on Dec. 18 and it's always a difficult day for all of us.  But I did have something to help with that.  My youngest granddaughter was born on that day.  I always say that Daddy kept her there with him until the RIGHT time to send her to us.  It was a great help and still is!  I hope your neighbor's family will have good memories!

SHIRLEY, thanks for turning out the lights.  I totally forgot about them!  I think my memory is clogged!  I have holly bushed in front of my house but they never get very high.  They do get loaded with berries and they stay beautiful through over Christmas and through the season.  I used to bring some inside but now I just enjoy them out there!

I guess I better go get dressed and take the Cooper for a walk.  I'm not even going to look at the temperature before I go.  I don't want to know how cold it is out there.  We are supposed to get more snow on Thursday and Friday.  I guess it made it across the border!  Or did it make it's way from the midwest?  Anyway, I wish you all a good day...better than yesterday but not as good as tomorrow!

Good morning; it's warmed up outside to minus 39. Only a few days to go until next week when it's forecast to begin slowly warming. Until then, I won't be doing that much nor far from my couch.

Jane, my friend, knowing me, warned she had a long rod and an incredible reach, so I think I'll stay on her good side!    I did open Farrah's box, sent to her from another friend's husky, Ralph. She stood and watched closely as I unwrapped and showed her a collapsible net carrier, three small cans of waterpacked tuna, three cans of Fancy Feast cat food, some foil-packaged treats, and a kitty blanket. She had two pieces of each of the treats over yesterday and this morning, so she's sleeping off the gluttony.

Okay, I got a jar of olives today so how many do I put in the beans?  I have the beans sitting out and I'm thinking of doing them tomorrow.  I also have hot dogs to put in them and I'm one who has always put a little ketchup and a little mustard in them.  I think I'm going to like the olives in there!

I think I might be ready for Christmas by tomorrow night.  And that's good because we're supposed to have bad weather for the next couple of days!  That means no rides anywhere!

I wish you all a peaceful night's sleep and a happy tomorrow and may God bless us, every one!

Good morning..
Everyone is getting ready for the dirty weather that is to come. People are loading up on items for the house and gas as we may lose power. Fingers crossed we are preparing for the worst but will only get snow....no freezing rain.

All the work didn't get done yesterday ,it may today but if not...oh well. First off we went to help Kyle's sister with her lifeline and after making a stop gleaning more and much better information we carried on. I told her the new info and she thought it was aslo good and would I phone and set it up for her. She now has a company coming to set her up with this and she deals with a local place that she knows.

I stuck out on my own to get something for Kyle....no  I didn't buy a husband...mercy.. one is more than enough! :)

This morning we are taking Kyles sis her gift (forgot it yesterday) and a supper or two for her.  Then home to get my whip cracking.

Jane, you asked if I found anything interesting in your wrapping and yes I did!! For the most part prices are about the same but your cauliflower is way cheaper!! We can pay anywhere from 6.99 -7.99 for one head!! Romaine lettuce for the 3 pack is 8.99 or in our case a leaveright...leave right there till the price comes down.

Patrica, Farrah is a well looked after kittie!! Bet it gave you a good feeling to unwrap her gifts and get your mind off of yours???

Better get at the day..it seems to slip away fast anymore.

Enjoy your day and stay safe.

Then we took gifts to the neighbour and had tea with them.

Good Morning Everyfriend!  I slept right through the alarm again this morning and the phone telling me that Frankie and Cooper were on the way is what woke me up.  I had to jump into some clothes so I could meet them in the driveway.  Then he had his breakfast and immediately wanted his walk.  And boy was he ever insisting about that.  He didn't give me a second's peace until it was light enough to go!

AMY, it's so nice of you to keep reminding PATRICIA that she has presents that she can't open until Christmas!  Talking about opening Farrah's will take her mind off hers probably sets her mind right back on hers!

It hasn't started to snow yet.  Of course, I haven't checked for at least 10 minutes and the weather report says it's supposed to start around any time now. OK, I just looked out the window and it coming down fast.  The ground (including the road) is already covered!  Frankie is at work and I worry about her driving in bad weather!  It makes her nervous and that's not good!

I'm planning on spending most of the day in the kitchen.  I'm going to cook and bake all day!  I hope it works out that way.  I'm definitely NOT planning on watching any TV.  The snow usually blocks my signal so I just give up!

I wish you all a good day...better than yesterday but not as good as tomorrow!

P.S.  Good Morning, LLOYD.  I almost missed you!  And thank you (not) for sharing the SNOW!

"I stuck out on my own to get something for Kyle....no  I didn't buy a husband...mercy.. one is more than enough!"

Amy, from the above, I can assume you're looking for a trade-in rather than a buy.  ;)

And yes, pets and other animals in our care are well looked after, the inside ones are members of our family, and the outside ones, if not family, are cousins. The inside includes cats, dogs, birds, fish, combos, etc. At the same time, the outside consists of horses, milk cows, goats, alpacas, llamas, a pig or two, and chickens. And yes, the outside ones have heated shelters.

We are amid slow warming; yesterday's low was minus 42, the day before had a low of minus 44, and tonite's low will be minus 32. It is now minus 29, heading for a high of minus 25. Christmas's high will be either minus 25 or 27, depending on where you look.

Jane, thanks for reminding Amy about reminding me of those presents!    :)

I swear I have more fun imaging than I do in the final unwrapping! I enjoy looking forward to a surprise in how I will read the less interesting books before I will read the important ones, putting them off to savor!

:2funny:  :2funny:  :2funny:  :2funny: Patricia, No no no ..no trade..too hard to train again!!!  I loved going into the barn and listen to the cows, some chewing their cuds while others softly mooing  at their calf. Toasty warm in the barn with all the body heat.

Kyle just started the generator, everything has been done to get ready for the nasty weather. Let's hope that it doesn't come . Some folks have no way of keeping warm if the power goes out.

Will go over in a  bit and trim Rex's nails and he will be good into the new year.

Stopped for a cuppa tea and all too soon it will be over with until the next break.

Well, I shot my wad again today!  I made a dinner in the crock pot, mixed up some cookies to bake tomorrow and baked a pile of doggie treats for the various four-legged members of our families.  Cooper got to try them out and he loved them!  He followed me into the kitchen to see if there were more!  They're made with banana, pumpkin and whole wheat flour so they should be good for them!

We had a day of snow and sleet.  Right now it's raining and will continue most of the night and then more snow and colder temps tomorrow.  I won't have Cooper tomorrow because Frankie has the day off so I can go out if I want to or stay in the house and hide from the cold weather.  So far, we haven't lost any power so things are OK.  We even had TV tonight.  That surprised me!

I still haven't found my recipe for Sand Tart Cookies and that's something I have to do.  It's just not Christmas at my house without Sand Tarts made over my Grandfather's old bakery recipe that came with his father from Germany!  I have one more possibility for where it is and when I'm finished here, that's where I'm headed.

I wish you all a peaceful night's sleep and a happy tomorrow, and may God bless us, every one!

Good morning..

Making this a quickie as there is a pile of snow to deal with and it is going to take a while. We did lose power at 4:30 am but it came back in about 2 hours so we are lucky. Hope everyone is is as lucky!

Jane, stay in if you got freezing rain ,you don't need to fall. Cooper can go in the back yard..safer for both of you.

Ok time to waltz..

Enjoy your day and stay  safe.

Up a little later than normal here in Wichita. Bright sun but still zero temp with feels like 20+ below. Nary a bird in sight so will fix my breakfast & decide what to do next.

This does not feel like Christmas even tho I see the decorations & lights on neighbors houses from my "window to the world" over the kitchen sink. I passed out my Christmas money to everyone before Thanksgiving so it could be hand carried to the out of towners. I hate to put money in envelopes & wonder if someone along the way got sticky fingers, have read about it happening.

The wind is blowing the bare trees down on the river, not a normal sight when bare, wind must be pretty powerful. Patricia, I think I will skip my vacation to Alaska this year since you sent Alaska to Kansas!!!

Jane, wish I'd thought about making cookies for the critters. My daughter helped clean out the kitchen cabinets & tossed out of date flour, etc. & I'll bets the critters would never have known the difference.  ;)  Did NOT have weevils but some self rising that probably would not have risen.  :-[    My husband was from TN so loved biscuits, I came up with something he reallllly loved. Would mix up a batch of self rising biscuits & lightly roll out... instead of using the biscuit cutter I sprinkle white sugar & brown sugar & a dash of cinnamon over all, roll it up & cut the roll into biscuit size thick & bake ... mix up the powdered sugar/butter icing (don't forget the vanilla) & drizzle over and didn't have to have everyone grabbing for the jelly! Some liked a little pad of butter to melt down over. Wish I had a new bag of that flour right now! Better go eat my breakfast!

I will never cease to wonder why one always has to deal with something happening at the worst possible time.  I turned off the light over my stove...the one I use for reading recipes, and doing anything I need glasses to do...and this morning it didn't turn on.  I took it out and checked on line to see if the local hardware store had a replacement and if they did deliveries.  They had a replacement...no deliveries!  So I texted my daughter to call me when she had a minute.  She did and she agreed to pick it up for me even though her son was arriving this morning.  Turns out, she didn't have to!  My son took over and he not only picked it up!  He paid for it and came over and installed it!  I'm back in the light!

I have one batch of cookies done and another one mixed and ready to bake.  This one is the sand tarts and they're cut outs.  They're next on the agenda but I thought I check in here first and then have my lunch!  And THEN bake another batch of cookies!

I have one more Christmas present to pack up and then I can relax!  The weather says it's 23º smf precipitating but I went out and checked and there's nothing coming down right now.  It's BRRRRRR. cold out there, though!

I wish you all a good day...better than yesterday but not as good as tomorrow!

Good Morning,

Temperatures are in the single digits, wind chill is way below zero and ground is partially covered with "messy" snow.
I've seen four pairs of cardinals at the bird feeders and a big flock of robins in the front yard.  They'll have to make do with the birdseed that's out there because I'm not sticking my nose out the door or taking a chance of stepping out on "black ice".

Miss Ellen flew in from NYC yesterday.  No issues with flights or lay-over in St. Louis.  She did say that she was glad she got to the airport well before her 7:00 a.m. flight because the security line was "out the door and around the corner" by the time her flight loaded.
Sir Carson drove up from Texas yesterday afternoon.  So all my chicks are in their Home Nest.  :smitten:

Shirley, my mother-in-law used self-rising cornmeal to make her mouth-watering cornbread.  She didn't measure - just put "some" of it in a bowl, added an egg, turned on the hot water and stirred it in until the batter "looked right".  The finished product was delicious!

Stay warm and well, Everyfriend.

Our rain has stopped, but the temperature is plummeting. Down about 10° in the last hour to about 25° (low for tonight 11°). Predicted to continue the fall, and remain below freezing till the 29th. That may make the ice skaters happy , but not me.

Post by: Shirley on December 23, 2022, 08:17:35 PM
Callie, that's how my mother-in-law made biscuits & cornbread! I stood by her side to make her measure one time, 2 cups of self rising either or flour or cornmeal, plus a half cup Crisco plus a cup of milk/buttermilk or regular milk with a T of vinegar in it to sour.... I always had to add a tad of flour or cornmeal, in fact, I think I started adding nearly half a cup of the flour to the cornmeal.... stir well & poured that batter into a "jumping hot" cast iron skillet that had a quarter inch of Wesson in the bottom (that was the jumping). Made the BEST crust ever when flipped out of the skillet to a waiting plate, Cas' mouth would start watering. He would eat that crust till all gone if any left over. It was good with a pot of beans & her fried potatoes. She also fried chicken that melted in your mouth, BUT went we got home after every visit, we had lots of zits to take care of on our faces. Goodness, what a lot of oil used in southern cooking. I'd love to have one of those meals right now!!!

Lloyd, if you want to watch the birds you gotta go feed them! Yesterday my feeders were empty & I was going to put seed out but my daughter-in-law had a fit about me going out so I smiled sweetly & asked her if she would put it out before she left, she did... Poor birds are thrilled to have water not frozen, I bought a bird bath warmer & put it in the concrete birdbath & they make a beline to the water as soon as they eat a bite. Trouble is, the oppossum also drinks from it & knocks the warmer out & the water freezes fast. With all the critters outside, their life depends on finding food & water every day so I try to put it out every day.

Rick, only tried to ice skate once in Kansas & discovered the ice froze in waves, really had waves so no smooth skating. Today the sun melted the snow on top of the motorhome & the icicles are hang down at an angle, seriously, wind froze them back that fast!

Jane, my "oh!NO!" for the day was going to the stove after my gr-daughter left & discovering a whole puddle of water in the trays around the gas burners! Happened one other time but different roof. The stuff they put around vents dries & water gets into the attic, follows a pipe to the vent over the stove & comes thru with no warning. I will have to call the people that put on the last roof to see when they can do the job. Guess it's routine maintenance, been several years since the new roof on. At least so far I haven't seen any spots on the ceiling where any other has leaked.

And that's all for tonight, folks! I will turn in early, guess the oxygen people won't make it over tonight. The warning light came on twice today & once yesterday but green light came back on when I turned off power each time... not a good thing but the lady I talked to said probably a routine "clean filter or change hose" job.... supposed to be done every month. I sure don't recall the guy that delivered saying anything about that but was going to have my son here to listen to instructions when they come again. My insurance pays for rental of this equipment so I thought I wasn't supposed to mess with anything. We will see how it goes....  if something is supposed to be done monthly why don't they just DO IT?  Hope it makes it thru the night.  :o

Sweet dreams & God Bless ... tomorrow is Christmas Eve, can you believe it?
Love y'all.Shirley

Right now it is 1º out there with a "feels like" temp of -19º.  I sure hope the electricity doesn't decide to go out tonight!  I went out to put something in the trash and the lid was frozen fast to the can!

I'm finished with the cookie baking and I'm thinking I might not make cookies if I survive another Christmas.  When I said that to my daughter she said, "Maybe it's time your family started making cookies for you."  Now wouldn't that be nice.  I don't need very many so it wouldn't be a big job!

I think I mentioned that I had one more Christmas present to pack up and then I was finished.  I packed it up this morning and I put all the wrapping stuff away and tidied up my wrapping area.  Then Frankie stopped by and one of the things she asked was if I'd have time to help her with her wrapping of gifts.  She has them all gathered but hasn't had time to wrap them.  Sooooooo.....I guess I'll get that stuff out again tomorrow morning.  She'll be dropping them off one her way to work when she drops of Cooper!  Thank goodness, the cookies are done and so is my wrapping.  I feel good when I can help her out!  Her job isn't easy!

Now I'm going to finish up some things that need finishing up and then hit the sack early!  I don't know why I've been so sleepy lately!  Maybe it's the weather!  It gets dark so early and I tend to get sleepy when it gets dark!  Right after Christmas, I'm going to start praying for an early Spring!

I wish you all a peaceful night's sleep and a happy tomorrow and may God bless us, every one!

🎼HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO YOU 🧁

🎼HAPPY BIRTHDAY DEAR CALLIE 🍰

🎼HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO YOU❣️

I hope you had an extra nice day.  Best wishes for good health and happiness this coming year‼️

Coming in to wish everyone a MERRY CHRISTMAS 🎄  I am not sure I will get in here again before ol St. Nick arrives🤪🤪

Last night was stressful for our family as our little four year old Grandson Jonah fell and broke his arm.  They were at his other grandparents home which is between Denver and Colorado Springs, in a remote area.  The local paramedics came to the home and put a splint on it before his mom and dad drove to Children's Hospital in CO Springs. They all stayed at the hospital over night and Jonah had surgery early this morning.  They put three pins in and casted the full arm.  He was released early afternoon and went back to the grandparents home.  He has been resting all day and they still plan to meet the family at Dr. Dave's Home tomorrow here we will do a early gift opening before they head to their home to be there for Santa🥰🥰

Pleasant dreams to EVERYFRIEND🎄🎄

Good morning..

Oh my it is not nice out there this morning. Wind kept up all night and is still up making snow removal put off till later. We did ask for colder weather to dry out the snow from yesterday and shiver me timbers it is cold.but the snow shouldn't plug up the blower.

Baking pies and bread will be done instead with hopes the power stays on..

Happy belated birthday Callie and I was happy to read all the chicks are back in the nest.

Rammel, unplanned skating is not nice and hard on the body!!

Jane, glad you have your new light up and working..hope you can rest a bit today.

Better get moving..

Enjoy your day and stay safe.

Good Morning Everyfriend!  This is going to be a shortie because I'm already involved in the Christmas Eve Day stuff that needs doing before my guests arrive or I have to get ready for church or visits with family!

CALLIE, I thought I saw that your birthday was Dec. 27!  I'm sorry I missed it...whenever it was!  I'm sure your family made it a happy day for you!  And may you enjoy many more of them!

The weather is BRRRRRR COLD here!  Right now it's 1º with a "feels like" of 16º below.  I'm beginning to think I shifted to Alaska in my sleep!  I guess I've been lucky so far.  Everything is working and the house is still warm.

I was up early and made a batch of JIM'S EGG THINGYS to have when I have company and I also stripped the bed and washed the sheets and when the dryer finishes, I'll be back to the bedroom to make that bed and then all the beds are clean and ready for company.  And I'll be ready for Cooper and Frankies gigt wrapping session.

I wish you all a good day...better than yesterday but not as good as TOMORROW!  MERRY CHRISTMAS, EVERYFRIEND!

Jane, I guess this is the time for lights.....I went to check on my pies and no oven light!!! Will get it fixed later on in the week. Guess that is better than our lights go out! :roflBig:

Thank you each for the birthday wishes.

Jane, I used to feel that 2 days after Christmas would be better than 2 days before because I wouldn't have to leave all those presents under the tree unwrapped.  ;)

Jenny,  I'm so sorry about Jonah. Remembering my boys' injuries when little - I suspect he will enjoy the attention once he isn't in pain any more.

I am making the apricot pie-filling salad and that cream cheese/chocolate pudding/Cool Whip dessert so I can take it to #1 son's when he picks me up tonight.
It's been a long time since I've spent the night away from home and all the "stuff" I (think) I need for an overnight feels as if I'm packing for a long trip!  ::)

:christmastree: Merry Christmas, Everyfriend :christmastree:

Happy Birthday, Callie! If I am repeating myself it's 'cause I think I am.  :-\  Too much going on yesterday so the brain is resting today.

Jenny, sorry about Jonah but happy about the possibility you can get that body fixed.

Amy, we used to have a neighbor with a full size tractor that came around & cleaned all the driveways. Sadly he moved and died much too young. My snow blower didn't make the switch to get into the garage so nobody gets cleaned driveways this time!

Lucky we didn't get that much snow. Wind is not bad today & lots of birds looking for food. We get a lot of seagulls swooping over the river. I always loved taking bread down & watch them drop down to grab a bite. A nap is singing my name so better head that way. Tiger thinks she has to sleep with me to take care of me, and we didn't do a good job last night!

Jane, I'm going to find that recipe for Jim's Egg Thingys to have on hand. They sound good with the cinnamon biscuits.~~~

I'm gonna go crash!

My eyes have a case of the slam shuts and I am going to call it a night..
Just a bit to prepare in the morning, turkey to cook, vegetables to peel and a meringue  to make for the lemon pie.

Jenny, hope Jonah is feeling better..

Shirley, the neighbour came back in tonight and cleaned the driveway. I did the dogs trails and the paths to get the wood in the backyard.

Callie, your salad and dessert sounds delicious.

Merry Christmas to you. Safe travelling to those that venture out.

Callie, I thought Jane had posted it in the "What's for dinner forum, but I'm sure she'll see your post and comment. On your, "I am making the apricot pie-filling salad and that cream cheese/chocolate pudding/Cool Whip dessert so I can take it to #1 son's when he picks me up tonight." I, too, would like those recipes, perhaps in the dinner forum.

I FOUND THE RECIPE!!

MERRY CHRISTMAS MORNING!

When I got home from Cathy's last night, I was so tired it was all I could do to get ready for bed!  I always enjoy her Christmas Eve party because I get to renew acquaintances with all the kids that she and Craig grew up with and the ones they hung out with in their younger days.  And there's always someone new to meet.  There's someone who is an old friend of mine there, too.  She went to school with me, her daughter went to school with Cathy and her SIL went to school with Craig!

CALLIE, my husband's birthday was Dec. 27 and he always said he never got birthday presents.  His mother just pointed out one of his Christmas presents and told him it was for his birthday.  The first year we we were married, I went shopping the day after Christmas and bought a BIRTHDAY present, wrapped it in birthday paper and set it beside his birthday cake when he came home from work on his birthday.  I think he ALMOST cried!

JENNY, I hope the little guy is feeling better.  At his age, it won't take long.  The little ones heal a lot faster than we do.  I remember when I was 5 and broke my arm.  It was only a day or two until I started loving all the attention and not paying much attention to the pain!

Cooper will be here a little before 10 and daughter Christy and her hubby will arrive sometime today.  I'm not sure when they're planning to leave Maryland but they'll text me when they're in the car!  And we're all heading for dinner at Cathy's later this afternoon.  Even Cooper's been invited!

Now I'm off for my second cup of coffee and whatever!  Have a nice day...This one should be the best yet!

Merry Christmas from Alaska's Interior!

It's 18 below, real feel minus 29 here with a wind chill of minus 50 but no snow, so yesterday, everyone was sliding and banging fenders on the ice. Nothing like Buffalo's four feet of snow! I don't think I've ever seen that much snow.

Amy, I saw two videos online about Ontario's snow and ice! Stay warm and stay safe!

Yesterday, Alan and Dora braved the ice to come down into town and stopped by with presents and cupcakes. I supplied the hot chocolate, and we had a pleasant visit. Then they went back out on those roads and called me as I requested when they arrived home, as they live on Murphy's Dome.

Today is silent, in the halls or outside, with no cars anywhere.

I had my usual morning call session, made coffee, fed Farrah and myself, and now I'm ready to see what mischief I can get to online.

Good morning.....

We had  wonderful Christmas, couldn't have it with family due to weather but enjoyed it with neighbours! After making sure all was ready for our Christmas dinner I had a dance with Mr SB. all the backyard was done, front verandah and out by the mail box. Neighbours came over once he was finished plowing out folks and they brought Rex also.:smitten:

Today is little things that need to be done including laundry (oh fun) Tonight I can watch Oak Island after Beyond Oak Island.

Patricia, sounds like you had a wonderful day also, I looked up Murphy's Dome......nice place! Plus you got to open your gift that you shunned in the closet!!

Better get going I slept in and now behind.

Enjoy your day and stay safe.

Happy Christmas Monday!

Things are well here.  Christmas Day was good...quiet with David here and nice phone conversations with my younger son, his wife, and both grandsons in Virginia.  Dinner went well.....the steak was good and we have leftovers for today.  Yay!

It is still cold but we never lost power so the house stayed warm.  David lit the gas logs just in case we needed them and we even had them burning for awhile just to enjoy the atmosphere while we played Christmas songs on Youtube.  All in All it was a nice day.

Take care, All.

'Tis the day after Christmas, bright sun and pretty sure Google told me it was 32 degrees when I first woke up. Had breakfast & went back to bed (just over 3 hours sleep). Darn wind bringing in that cold air so temps now 19 with feels like 2. Got a bite to it, for sure. I didn't read this forecast. :tickedoff:  May just go back to bed. :-\  Thoughts & prayers for all that are cold or hungry. Thanks to everyone that comes to let us know they are okay. Used to remind my kids to do the same so I don't waste my worrying!  Love y'all... :christmastree:

Merry Monday,

I spent Christmas Eve night at #1 son's and was brought home last night.  Very busy 24 hours but wonderful to be with entire family for the first time in 4 years (because of Covid and back surgeries [not mine]).

Big news is that Granddaughter Emily is engaged!  They had looked at rings but choice and Christmas Eve proposal were a surprise.

Now I'm looking at all the stuff that needs to be put away.  :buck2:  I plan to do that "leisurely"  ;D

Stay warm and well, Everyfriend.

Good morning; minus 4 here with a feel of minus 18. It's still hushed out in the halls or streets; everyone's probably taking it very easy. We were supposed to have snow between 2 and 7 am, an entire 0.01 inch, but that went elsewhere. They promise the same 0.01 inch tonight between 7 pm and midnight.

Amy, it is beautiful on the Dome, and another, Chena Ridge, is to the left. We used to visit friends to have sledding parties on their banked three-mile driveway. Everyone would sled down the twists and turns to the cars parked below and ride back up, only to sled those twists and turns again. Unfortunately, age caught up to us.

Now there are sixteen lovely homes listed, our friends among them. No one tells you that to maintain the roads and trails inside and outside the beautiful wilderness; you need to do so; it's outside the city limits. Neighborhoods form associations and jointly pay for maintenance, and it's not cheap.

It's the same coming into the city from the south; all that lovely land and rolling hills alongside the river on either side of the highway are maintained by neighborhood associations.

How nice for Emily and for you, Callie, to spend the holiday with family!

We enjoyed a wonderful Christmas Eve and Day with our family.  Dr. Dave's children are older and it is quite different than when they were little, of course❣️ We met Dave's new lady friend and she is delightful.  Thy both seem very happy and very compatible together and we are thrilled🥰🥰

We are relaxing today.....Our San Francisco family are out visiting friends and family today so they dropped Ollie Doodle off so he could spend the day with us🥰🥰 This is his second home and he shows how comfortable he is to be here🎄

Thank you for the kind words regarding Little Jonah.  We all know he is going to be just fine, but it is hard to see our little ones hurt.  He asked his daddy yesterday...."now can we take this thing off"‼️🤪‼️

I hope each and every one of you had a special time as well🎄

Hello Everyfriend!  It's been a while since I've been in here.  I've been busy up the gazoo and now I'm worn to a frazzle!  Today my son, his wife and their sweet 16 daughter came over to celebrate Christmas.  They brought pizza for supper and we enjoyed that and then we did a gift exchange!

Daughter Christy and her husband left to go home to Maryland around 4 this afternoon.  It's about a two and a half hour drive from here to there and they texted that they got home safely!  Frankie texted from work to ask if Cooper can spend the night with me.  She's not off tonight until about 9 and has to be back in tomorrow at 7 so this is good for her and I like it too.  And I don't think Cooper objects either!

CALLIE, it sounds like you had a nice visit with your whole family!  Good news from Emily, too!  The families are growing up!

JENNY, you had some family good news, too!  Sounds like your son got lucky!

PATRICIA, you can keep the cold!  Ours has come up a bit and we're actually predicted to get into the 50s over the New Year's Weekend!  I'm in favor of that!

Now I'm going to get into my pajamas, turn on the TV and wait for my eyes to clunk shut!  I wish you all a peaceful night's sleep and a happy tomorrow and may God bless us, every one!

Jane, I keep meaning to ask if the 16 year old gr-daughter is the one you baby sat for  when she was little.....   I know they grow up fast but we haven't heard about her in a long time so if she is the one we used to hear about, tell her this OLD AUNTIE sends special birthday wishes, happy memories.  :hb3:  :hb2:

Time for bed and I never had supper. Guess I'll see what sounds good. Nothing if I can't have salt on it.  :(   This is when a package of that tuna mix stuff goes down easy. Okay, I know, it is more salt that I should have BUT.........

We have slick ice so Andy came over to put the dumpster by the street for me... said he slid all the way down holding on to it. He stayed & visited for a little while, good kid.

Sweet dreams and God Bless

Good Morning Everyfriend!  The second day after Christmas and I'm stopping to take a deep breath.

Yes, Shirley!  I started picking Kiran up after Nursery School and they came by by house and her.  This lasted until she insisted that she was old enough to take care of herself for a couple hours after school until her parents got home from work.  And my son's store is only 3 blocks from where they live.  I think she might have been 11 or 12.  I'll be sure to pass on you birthday wishes!

Today, I wash sheets and replace them on the bed so when Courtney arrives on Friday she'll have a clean place to sleep.  Courtney's the one who just got her Master's Degree and I watched it on line!  Now I can give her a REAL hug!

Cooper had an urgency this morning and it was just starting to light up when we went for our walk this morning!  He insisted that we couldn't wait for it to get light and he started telling me about it while we were still in bed.  I left him out in the fenced yard and he came right back in and sat by the door we go out to go for walks!  So we went!

Now I've finished my breakfast and I need to get the day started!  I wish you all a good one...better than yesterday but not as good as tomorrow!

Well, I said my "Good Morning" and now it's time for my "Good Night" and now one has been around since I was here this morning!  I'm off tho the haystack as soon as I finish up a few things that need doing before the haystack.  I hope you all had such a good day that you just didn't have time to come in here!

I did some napping today off and on and I think I got caught up!

Tomorrow, I have a whole day off...no Cooper and no Company!  So I'm joining my former high school classmates for lunch.  We try to get together once a month.  There are still about 12 of us around this area and we still enjoy getting together!

I wish you all a peaceful night's sleep and a happy tomorrow and may God bless us, every one!

Not very busy in here again!  LLOYD, I love the song!  It's so true and so beautiful!

I went to lunch today with my former coworkers.  We try to do it once a month and there are anywhere from 6 to 15 of us.  Today there were 9.  It's so nice to spend a couple hours with them once a month.  Afterward, my ride lady and I made a quick stop at the grocery store so now I don't have to work Cathy for a few items.

It was a slow day...no Cooper and lunch out!  Now I'm off to the haystack because I'll have Cooper around 6:45 tomorrow morning!  I wish you all a peaceful night's sleep and a happy tomorrow and may God bless us, every one!

Good morning..

Another busy day ahead. Company coming and then after they leave I am going to try and remove some snow from the roof..must be about 1 1/2 feet on it. On thing I can assure you is my feet won't be on it as I will use the roof rake to get the snow down then snow blow it off the verandah.

Had family yesterday and after they left made white bread and a huge pot of soup. Looked after the neighbours critters as they went to family for a Christmas dinner. :smitten:  Must admit with all the dancing then the entertaining I don't mind slowing down some.

Llody that is a beautiful song, thank you for posting.

Better get ready to meet the day.

Enjoy your day and stay safe.

Jane, checking in...my gosh that snow was heavy.. what I took off the roof I then had to move with the snowblower. Job done for now and maybe tomorrow I will do more.

Had fun with the kids, visits are too short but thankful for the time spent. Kyle had made step stool for them and he also made boot jacks that also went home with them. I had mentioned that getting my  snow boots off was difficult and could he make me one. Well one turned into about 6!!

Going to put my feet up.....busy day tomorrow..

I got a bunch of stuff done but nothing as difficult as AMY did!  I cannot imagine trying to get snow off the roof!  Well, maybe I can.  The house where we raised our kids had about a four foot dip between the house roof and the added-on garage roof and I had to get up there a few times a winter to get rid of the snow that piled up on the garage roof against the house.  We were always afraid it would be heavy enough to bring down the garage roof!  And ther was a porch between the garage and the house!  My husband would start out for work and come back in the driveway and honk the truck horn.  When I started out to see what he needed, he would just stick his arm out the window and point at the roof.  No cell phones back then!

Gotta go finish up and get ready for bed.  Granddaughter Courtney will be coming in around noon tomorrow for the weekend!

In case anyone comes by, I wish you all a peaceful night's sleep and a happy tomorrow and may God bless us, every one!

A while back I commented on our lack of posters and/or posts. There seems to be few of us left and we are slowly vanishing. Get your friends or family members to join us.
Some of us are not very active, so  have little to write about (That's me).

JaneS --- Is that a total of 15 beans, or 15 types of beans (I didn't think there were that many).

I've been around when everyone is talking about the 15 bean soup but never got the recipe so cant help, Jane.

Sure, Rick, we're gonna cook those 15 beans for hours to get them done!  3 spoonfuls?  ;D  :crazy2:
Why does it say "Show IP address"  under Location: Kansas?

I'm off to bed, didn't go to the family gathering, too many have been traveling & I did not want another round of the flu or whatever they might be carrying!  I was one sick old lady after the Thanksgiving meal, the food was wonderful but not worth the days of being down.

Sweet dreams and God Bless. Love y'all.  Shirley/Tisie

Smart lady keeping away from the masses. Don't worry about the IP thing. Only you see it on your post.

Jane, it's late, and I'm tired, so I just used my search engine and came up with a multitude. I hope there's one in there that you might enjoy!

Good morning..

Rain/drizzle had started last night around 11:30 when I let the dogs out, not sure what it is doing at the moment...too dark out.

Quiet day here, will can some of the soup to take to people and make more bread. Then I am going to play in the sewing room...maybe.

Jane, I emailed you Phyllis's recipe for bean soup.We don't get the 15 bean medly here but do get a 5. I am thinking when David is in the US at your Walmart I will ask him to look for the 15 bean one.

Time to start the day....my get'up n go went back to bed so I will just plod along :))

Enjoy your day and stay safe.

Good Morning Everyfriend!  Thanks for thinking about the 15 Bean Soup Recipe.  I was sure I got that from someone on here.  Now I'll have to get back to the hunt.

PATRICIA, I already did that on-line search and I'm sure it's there but I can't pick it out.  I'm going back and check out yours.  Maybe something will jump out at me.

My granddaughter is coming today and I need to get ready for company.  I don't think I'll have Cooper because Frankie wasn't feeling well when she picked him up yesterday.  She said if she didn't feel any better today, she wasn't going to work today.  If she was going, they'd be here by now.

AMY, keep on keeping on!  You'll feel better.  It's all that snow on the roof that's doing you in!  I don't understand what you expect David to find about bean soup at Wal-Mart.  This is home made soup!  Am I missing something?

Gotta get dressed and get on the ball.  Courtney will text me when she's in the car on the way and that will give me 2 hours to finish up.  I wish you all a good day...better than yesterday but not as good as tomorrow!

Jane, check your email.  What we get here in the package is just 5 bean (dry) blend.. so maybe he can find a package of the 15(dry) bean blend??

AMY, THAT'S THE RECIPE!  Thank you!  And they do have the packets of 15 beans.  It's called "Hurst 15-been blend" and it sells for about $2.50 a bag depending on which kind you want.  I got the one that was $2.59.  Prices are always changing!

Jane, you're welcome. Ok will tell David about it. Foggy here and hokey teddy bear the snow has gone down!! Temp is 40° at the moment and I have let the fire go out.......too hot in here and I am going to bake more bread.

Up to 60 deg. here today, Amy. :o But, rain is on the way and I'm sure the temp. will go down again in a couple days.

Jane, I was going to tell you that you buy the 15 bean soup in the dried bean section at the grocery store and that the recipe is on the bag.  I usually tweak it a bit here and there by adding ham, bacon, or kielbasa, but basically it is what the bean people recommend.

If I don't get here for a couple of days.......

HAPPY NEW YEAR, ALL!!!!

The packaged kind is "Hambeens" brand.  I think there are a couple others.  Yes there are 15 kinds of beans.  Just FYI, the beans turn out better just cooked in a large pot on the stove.  I did the CrockPot thing, and was disappointed (texture).  Also, be sure to soak them overnight, remove the floater and any pebbles.  They do require a longer cooking time, in my opinion.

Tome, thank you. Phyllis and I cook these in our instant pots (no soaking) and they cook soft in 50 mins. I did a pot of baked beans in 90 min no soaking the beans. Bread is out of the oven...some in the hidey hole  butter is on the side. :)

Now I'm curious. I have several dried bean types, as I cannot use commercially canned varieties. Would you post the recipe in the what's for dinner forumn?

Joannie, that's one of the reasons I got rid of my microwave, as the taste of foods was off; same similar overall tastes for anything you put in it. My six-quart slow cooker was donated next because I no longer meal-prepped, so I didn't need the larger amounts prepared.

With a new or at least new to me stove last year and a brand new refrigerator this year after months of begging maintenance (I'm sure it had absolutely nothing to do with the structural inspection by the state bigwigs on the 16th)... I mainly use my wok or a stainless steel dutch oven.

We're still getting by with minuses in minus 3 to minus five and lows of minus 20. The promised snow the last five times has gone elsewhere and not to us.

I'm ready to hit the haystack.  I had a busy day getting ready for Granddaughter Courtney's arrival and then visiting with her until she went out to meet my son and family for supper.  She's back now and in bed!  And that's where I'm heading!

I wish you all a peaceful night's sleep and a happy tomorrow and may God bless us, every one!

Good Morning!  I'm up and attem and waiting for Courtney to wake up.  She wants to make a trip to Davy's today and that's good for me.  I have a list waiting on my desk and a little extra money to get some stuff for her.  I never know about Christmas for these "unmarried young adults" in my family and I can add to her Christmas with some groceries that she can't get where she lives.

Now I'm going to go get myself dressed and ready so when she hits the floor, we can take off!

BUBBLE and AMY,  interesting posts!  I'm going back later and take a better look!

I wish you all a good day...better than yesterday but not as good as tomorrow!

I got in to a battel with the old Ladie in charge down to the captial of newmexicao. Our two first two childern were born in the Mitilary hospitial at whitesands nwemexico Mitillary hospittial. at that time in history a feamale chied born in nemexacioa, Had to have three generations of names attached to them, exampel gonzolas, harea, lopease. I named our deaughter with my wife's Permiosion. I nameed her  ( Louisalynn) all one name No middle name, the Mitillar had no problem with that filled out the birth certificet and sent it in. the old Ladie sent it back writen on same cirtifict. saying we had to add two more names of generations, I wrote on it and sent it Back servial times untill it looked Like a peice of scrap paper. captian armbruster took my side we won after severia consatiations. they had a speacial meating at the captel and changed the history of newmeaxico. So that was how histoery went. But in years gone by louisalynn Has gotten and changed it on here owen, she said ti was to long and just uses Louisa. Oh we win some and loose some.

Rammel,  I've had the Times Square earthcams in my Favorites for a long time. Last New Year's Eve, I watched the live  earthcam on my Tablet and watched the broadcast on t.v.  It was fun to see the performers coming and going off stage on earthcam while watching the stage performances on tv.
