We had a lot of pudding (various flavors) for dessert while I was growing up - including tapioca, but I never heard it called anything else.  Probably wouldn't have liked it so much if I'd heard it called "Fish Eye".  ;)

Probably wasn't made right. Or maybe your brain thoughts got in the way. It is plant matter after all, not *****.

Rick, thanks to your suggestion we will have tapioca pudding for dessert tonight. Just have to whip up the whipping cream to put on and top with a cherry.

Happy Hanukkah Bubble..

Patricia, you are so talkative... :cup:  :hello:

I remembered what I wanted to ask about yesterday, December 17th. Is it a holiday I've forgotten and could not find online for Alaska or the US?

At 8 pm last night and lasting until 10, the city plaza, a block from my building, set off fireworks and not a tiny display. They had all types, including the reverberating boomers that seemingly shook my building. It had to be sanctioned due to the number, variety, and length of the fireworks, and I was hoping they would give up sooner than they did

Farrah decided to spend that time in the tub, and I also wished I had an escape route.

Shirley

Okay, Patricia, I'm in a silly mood today & NO, I am not taking any funny pills.... but what you said while ago struck me funny....
Quotefrom Patricia.."Amy, I remember how hard shopping for a husband or significant other was for me. I would put a lot of time and effort into it and was never quite sure if it was worth it."
Do you have a preference if his eyes are blue or brown, at our age hair is a moot point (gray or none), tall or short, I hear shopping is half the fun... :2funny:

I'm ready for a nap, twas a short night & busy day so far. My poor daughter is worn to a nub & she's doing only half was I've been doing all day/every day. But she does take time off to go watch her grands soccer practices or games & other things. I am shocked every day when I find something else a real struggle to do, but still doing!

Weather is about to show winter colors so the next week (of holiday traveling) will be just watch what happens! We had damp driveway but so far not slick. I did get a new bird bath warmer and was pleased to see how many flit right over to slurp.

Happy Hanukkah Bubble..

By the way, my mother fixed tapioca and my youngest brother would eat everyone's shares if he could. She also fixed "sweet rice" which was just soft cooked rice with milk, sugar and cinnamon. I plan to fix some later today, only I cheat & use minute rice but do cook a tad longer than what the box says & add the milk & sugar when finished boiling. You know the "scum" from boiling milk so don't do that!

At one time I had a recipe for fisheye something but can't remember what, some kind of salad.  Well, thinking just pushed me over the edge so off to take a nap!

Thank you, everyone, for the suggestions, humor, and ideas. I had two marriages and a long-term commitment, so shopping for a husband isn't necessarily one of my strong points, although some inherent comedic elements were involved.

I have never forgotten how proud my first husband was that he gave me a vacuum and rug cleaner combo for our first Christmas and didn't understand why I wasn't similarly enthused. Or when my second called me at a friend's to come home as he was hungry. I mentioned there was hamburger in the fridge, and he didn't know what to do with it. His attempt set off the fire alarm!

I discovered the firecrackers were a celebration for the Solstice on the 21st. However, everyone is changing holiday dates to bring in the most customers...er celebrants. It's important here as, after the Winter Solstice, we begin regaining daylight minute by minute until the 24/7 summer daylight begins to wane after the Summer Solstice in June. We're at 3 hours and 55 minutes at present minus 32. The more darkness, the colder it gets, and the more light we have, the warmer it will get.

PATRICIA, back in the "old days" most men weren't raised to cook for themselves.  However, my father grew up on a farm in a family of 7 brothers and one sister who died at the age of 12.  They could all cook and most of them liked doing it.  I grew up with 2 men in the house who were both cooks...my father from the farm and my other grandfather who was the son of a professional baker and who worked in the bakery they owned.  I was used to men who were used to the kitchen.  My husband's first words in the door after work were usually "What's for dinner?"  He was definitely NOT a cook.  If he was on his own, he ate out!

Got a bunch of stuff done today.  The knitted dish towel for my neighbor is almost finished!  I think I'll make it on time.  I still have a little candy to bag but that won't take lone and it'll be good to get it out of the fridge.  At least I'll know what I have in there that I can eat!

Church was good today and even the "after church" was good!  Lots of people were asking questions about the fruit cake and I gave out a lot of church history!

I started to watch the Perry Mason movie tonight and I made the mistake of snuggling under a blanket.  I think I might have seen 15 minutes of the movie and Emergency was on when I woke up!  I shouldn't let myself get comfortable!

Now I'm off to the haystack.  I wish you all a peaceful night's sleep and a happy tomorrow and may God bless us, every one!

My father also could cook but didn't until Mom got too bad to do it.  I have a sneaky feeling the guys he went deer & antelope hunting with in CO wanted him along for his input in how to cook in the high altitude and also because he could fix anything, I do mean ANYTHING that broke. Could be I'm a tad prejudice but we were kinda daddys girls, huh, Jane? Cas was the same if I wasn't home, he would eat out (pick up fast food) or need to go out of town. I never went anywhere I couldn't take the kids when they lived at home.

Good sport, Patricia....  ;)    Not everyone enjoys being teased but with 3 brothers, I got more than my share of it & learned to tease back with the best of 'em.

Rick has been my brother since my last one died so glad the sense of humor is intack, Rick!

Jane, hope someone remembers to tell others the story behind the fruitcake, I am very impressed with what kind people you came from. My mother used to bake cupcakes to take to nursing homes but one lady whispered to her that "if she left them with the desk they didn't get to the patients", so Mom would pass them out if allowed & quit when they said THEY would have to deliver. I know there is a health risk if not cleared first, but that wasn't the reason they gave. Anyway, think your mother had a big heart!...and a good recipe!

My daughter goes back to St.Louis tomorrow, until the day after Christmas. Almost all those still working have the days off until after New Year Day, so great for visiting if the weather plays nice. I am off to bed, can't seem to get there until near midnight but the load of clothes just got out of the dryer & I am done.

Sweet dreams & God Bless. Love y'all....... Shirley

Good morning..

Seems we needed more snow and got it during the night. May be able to deal with it,with the shovel ,will see when I go out. Today is finish up the gifts and either today or tomorrow go shopping for my husband. I know what I want and it is a matter of getting away on my own.

My son is a fantastic cook, when home they will have the smoker going along with the BBQ and make meals for the following week for him. A couple of weeks ago they made bologna and said they will never buy it in the store again, this is much nicer.

Speaking of food I will put on a pot of baked beans in the instant pot.

Rick, that tapioca pudding topped off our supper last night. A dab of whipped cream with cherry on top and tasty!!

Shirley, Mom used to make a rice dish. She would cook the rice, drain, put a bit of sugar on it place a plate on top and let it set in the fridge over night. Next day drain any liquid that had accumulate ,then fold in whipped cream..not sure if that was called angels in the snow but it sure was delicious!!

Better get ready to met the day.

Enjoy your day and stay safe.

Good Morning Everyfriend!  It's a cold one here...still only up to the high 20s!  Brrrr!  I know, I know!  It's a lot colder where you are, AMY but this cold enough for me!  In fact, it's TOO cold for me!

I've been up a while and I'm still in my jammies but I'm going to have to go get dressed.  Cathy has an appointment at the dr. for her knew and I hope she doesn't have the same thing I did at about that age!  I needed surgery because there wasn't anything to keep the bones from rubbing against each other at the knee!!

Today will be a day in the kitchen.  I have to come up with something to eat for the next couple of days and I have to wrap the rest of the candy.  That's what's planned for today.  Of course, I'll have to pick up the knitting at some point.  I usually do that, when I get tired of standing and need a short rest.

LLOYD, RICK is right about getting the kids to help you get on track with your computer.  They grew up with them and it's like asking you to fix a doorknob or a faucet!

I wish you all a good day...better than yesterday but not as good as tomorrow.

Thanks for all the Hanukah wishes. It's a very quiet one this year. No mood for celebrating - and it is so cold outside!

phyllis

Your Hanukah and my Christmas sound the same, Bubble.  Very quiet.  That's OK....at my age "quiet" is good.

I loved Tapioca Pudding when I was a kid.....until my older brother convinced me I was eating fish eyes.  Haven't liked it since.  Flavor is all right but, don't like the feel.  It is still fish eyes to me.   ;D

I'll go look in the pantry to see if I have some beans, Amy.  That sounds good to me, too, on a cold day.

Take care, All.

For DAYS I have intended to post something and today s the day that I am going to get er' done🤪🤪‼️‼️

I love each and every one of your posts.....so thank you ALL for keeping up this wonderful thread of ours❣️

One day I read the posts then went to the recipe thread and just read and read all of the great recipes that have been shared.  I love tapioca and have not made it in years😩😩 Bob said his little English Grandmother made it almost everyday, and he loves it too‼️‼️

I have some WONDERFUL and very exciting news to share.  I saw an orthopedic doctor last week that specializes in nerve damage.  He gave me news that I was sure I may never hear.  He sees enough life in my damaged actuary nerve that he is willing to go forth with a surgery that should give me "some" of my shoulder movement back so that I can at least get my arm away from my body....I was SO EXCITED to hear this.  There is no downside to this repair at all, and even if I only get a bit more movement it will be worth it!  He said he can also stabilize my reverse shoulder so it is less likely to be dislocated as easily.  A win win for me.  He takes a nerve from an area that has many nerves, so it is not like stealing from Peter to pay Paul‼️‼️. He hoped to be able to put me on his January schedule which would be the first Thursday in January.  🙏🙏🙏 this will be the day.  He not does this surgery the first Thursday of the month‼️‼️

AMY, I was sorry to ready about Kyle's fall, but pleased to read he did listen to you about asking for help‼️

JANE, I was so happy for you to be able to watch Courtney's graduation online.  The next best thing when we can not be there in person🥰🥰

CALLIE, I am so pleased that both of your dial's are doing well health wise🥰

SHIRLEY, love reading all you have going on too.

PHYLLIS....always enjoy seeing posts from you as well🥰

PATRICIA....always enjoy hearing what is going on in your world ❣️ The fireworks display sounded quite special, but poor Farrah....having to hide in the bath tub😩😩

HAPPY HANUKKA BUBBLE.

Too many interruptions so I best get this posted before it gets away from me‼️

Have a great day, EVERYFRIEND🎄🎄

Good morning, another frigid day, presently at minus 32. I still have my files to put into the new folders and my new fireproof box, but I'm being lazy, under a throw on the couch.

My dad was a product of his time, he didn't cook, but his mother used to say he could bake. That was evidently before marriage. My mother was in charge of any inside jobs, although she also helped with the garden and raking leaves when she wasn't working as a secretary.

My dad was a welder and had a sideline of designing flower stands, gates, decorative fencing, and building inboard river boats and, later, jet boats. He maintained the outside of the house, hunted, and fished. He felt children were to be seen and not heard, but a good labor pool.

We grew up before statehood, and it was nothing like it is now, there were lots of things you didn't have, and every one each family contributed and pulled their weight.

What someone called sweet rice was what my mother made for us when we were sick.

Christmas will also be very quiet here in this frigid season, with everyone staying home.

I have various dried beans, and I always have some made up in the fridge. I toss some into different soups, stews, and salads. I rarely make a pot of only beans, but when I used to, it was with rice.

I need to find some cat grass for Farrah, she hasn't had it for a while, and yesterday, when I watered my plants, she kept trying to eat them until I had to lock her in the bedroom. Normally they are six feet up on an inaccessible shelf. I don't know if you know that spider plants smell and taste as good as catnip to most cats, and evidently, Farrah is not particular; she likes every plant I have!

Jenny, I am so happy to hear your news and hope everything works well or better, and so soon!

Amy

Yard is all cleaned up plus out back for the dogs...trails have been made .

Mail lady just dropped in with a parcel...Patricia, I know now what you are going through!!! Do I...don't I....jeepers do I have to wait???

Bubble, I haven't tried olives with beans but worth a try, my son loves olives!!

Rick, these beans are from scratch with a tad of hot mustard in them. I also agreee with the hot dogs and beans..delicious!!

Jenny what fantastic news and a welcomed Christmas present!!!

Better get back at it...........hmm will put the box out of sight out of mind..........ha ha ha as if.

Amy, I'm glad I'm not the only one with a pile in the back closet!  ::)

Farrah is very interested in a big, flat box. I believe there may be cat treats or some dried meats for as considerable interest as she took in the box before I put them away.

I admit I opened all the products in Doctor Teel's advent calendar and my essential oils advent calendar gifts. I can't be expected to be good all the time!

JaneS

Hello my friends!  I'm a believer that when a special box comes in the mail, we don't wait to open it!  We spread Christmas over the days preceding it's arrival.  Everything adds up to Christmas and if we weren't supposed to open what comes in the mail, it wouldn't come until Christmas!

I received a package in the mail today and I opened it!  I loved everything in it including the packaging!

JENNY, nice to see you in here and I'm delighted with your news!  I can hardly wait to hear the outcome!

PHYLLIS, keep coming back.  We miss you when you're not here!

Olives in the beans...that's what I'm missing!  I do add some hot mustard and a little ketchup.  Now I'm going to have to have beans with olives in them tomorrow!  Is there anything else I should try?

Now I'm going to hit the haystack before my eyes clunk shut so hard they shake the house.  I'm as sleepy as if I haven't slept in a coon's age!  And Cooper will be here tomorrow BEFORE the crack of dawn!

Happy Hanukkah, Bubble.  Or have I missed it completely?

I wish you all a peaceful night's sleep and a happy tomorrow and may God bless us, every one!

Patricia, yes, I broke down and opened mine. I must say it was so exciting not only did I enjoy what was in it but I carefully flattened the packing paper so I could read about the area it came from.

Good Morning Everyfriend!  Cooper and I had a very long walk this morning and it's freezing out there...and I do mean freezing.  It's only up to 32º so far today!  And it's heading for the teens overnight again tonight!

Cooper did his usual "I want to go out in the yard" when we got back from the walk but he never ventured off the porch.  He's back inside now and doing his barking out the window!  Smart doggie!

AMY, was there anything interesting in the newspaper that you flattened to read?  That's something that my uncle always used to do when he got packages from home!  He said it got him up to date.  Ours from them was always stuffed with funny papers because that was his job.  He printed funny papers!  We got to read some that our papers didn't include.  Pretty neat!

I guess I better get moving.  I noticed that the sweeper needs to crawl out of the closet and get to work today but I think I'll have to go remind it!  It never seems to get that on it's own!

I wish you all a good day...better than yesterday but not as good as tomorrow!
