Kind words-January 09, 2004

Kind words they are always priceless,
from one who is sincere,
Kind to appreciates the feelings,
of friends they hold so dear.

Kind words they can be healing,
if one feels low or down,
Kind words can ease a troubled brow,
and smooth away that frown.

Kind words can ignite a spark of hope,
which from there it may inspire.
Kind words can raise, from ashes of doubt.
a small comforting glowing fire.

Kind words are something we all need.
as the path of life unfolds.
Kind words that sleep within our hearts,
are the goodess in our souls.

Richard

IN DEFENCE OF SILENCE

Silence as a language
is not well known...
yet those who embrace it
and call it their own..
defend it (as I will)
from those who speak much
not knowing that silence
is tender to touch...

and silence speaks deeply
it's voice quite true..
when one listens closely
to the message in you..

So silence within me
and voices without..
I'll receive them both..
they are precious, no doubt..

The inward my Counselor
the outward my friends..
or the voices of grandchildren
and songs in the wind..

Yet Silence still speaks
what no one else can..
of seasons, and changes
and times I should stand..
of forgiveness
and forgetting
holding on,
or letting go..
why is silence a language
that few want to know?

The language of silence,
it becomes very clear...
you simply must listen, and listen,
until you can hear...

Buona Sera
(Fred Buscaglione)

Buona Sera - Signorina - Buona Sera
It is time to say goodnight to Napoli
Though it's hard for us to whisper Buona Sera
With that old moon above, the Mediterranean sea

In the morning, Signorina, we'll go walking
Where the mountains and the sand came into sight
By the little jeweller's shop we'll stop and linger
While I buy a wedding ring for your finger
In the meantime, let me tell you that I love you
Buona Sera, Signorina, kiss me goodnight!
Buona Sera, Signorina, kiss me goodnight!

Buona Sera - Signorina - Buona Sera
It is time to say goodnight to Napoli
Though it's hard for us to whisper Buona Sera
With that old moon above, the Mediterranean sea

In the morning, Signorina, we'll go walking
Where the mountains and the sand came into sight
And by the little jeweller's shop we'll stop and linger
While I buy a wedding ring for your finger
In the meantime, let me tell you that I love you
Buona Sera, Signorina, kiss me goodnight!

By the little jeweller's shop we'll stop and linger
While I buy a wedding ring for your finger
In the meantime, let me tell you that I love you
Buona Sera, Signorina, kiss me goodnight!
Buona Sera, Signorina, kiss me goodnight!
Buona Sera, Signorina, kiss me goodnight!

Good Morning Everyfriend!  Nice, clean, redecorated Soda Shoppe.  Thank you Bubble for all the work you do for us.

I was up early today.  Cooper is here and had his breakfast.  It's 9º here today and I'm not going walking until it warms up at least 6 degrees!  That'll be around 10 o'clock!  I hope Cooper can hold it that long!

I have the stuff laid out to make shortbread cookies today and I've already started cleaning off my desk.  I also picked out some new water glasses to order but I haven't made a final decision on them.  I'll have to decide that before my desk is cleaned off because the picture is lying on the desk.

CALLIE and SHIRLEY, I asked my daughter in Jenks, OK if she felt an earthquake and she said she didn't but she was out running around and could have missed it.

I wish you all a good day... better than yesterday but not ans good as tomorrow.  And I wish us all SPRING!!!

Good early morning from the Interior! I'm up early from a restless night, and at 4:23 AM, it is minus thirty-three. Our high will be minus thirteen, and then we're back on a warming trend.

I have no idea what this day will bring other than watering plants, a load of towels, and bedding for laundry and taking out the trash.

I hope your day and mine stay healthy, sane, and happy!

50° here so I fed cats & suggested they go out for a while. Tiger didn't want out and Callie only went out because I did, to unlock the pool gate so she doesn't have to climb the fence to inspect her territory. Instead she is sitting on the step to come back in. The temps will go down all day and all news media is talking about is the storm/ rain/ ice mix & snow. 5-7" here plus with the blowing & drifting, for sure can be a mess. My job this morning is to take the wagon & whatever I can pile on it in the garage around to a storage on other side of the house, to switch for the snow blower. No gas in the blower so have to drag it & that is a chore. The garage is so full if I need to sneeze I will have to step outside! Not a twig moving right now.

Bubble, great job cleaning this place up. My fav of the quotes/text is Harriet Beecher Stowe. I don't think I ever read that before but sure a wise thought. Thanks MUCH!

Good morning...

Dancing today with Mr SB....doesn't look like much for inside maybe 3 inches for now as this snow is to continue until tomorrow.

Jane, who won out, you or Frankie to have the bed partner.

Patricia, I can see why this makes yours eyes leak. Powerful song.

Shirley at 50° I would leave the snow be as it will soon melt for you. Saves you dancing with the snowblower.

Gloria, hope all is well with you.

Better get my dancing duds on..

Enjoy your day and stay safe.

Good Morning Everyfriend!  That's for the ones that are here and the ones that show up later and also for the ones who have other places to be today!

AMY, Frankie went to bed first so Cooper went with her but I was shortly after and she brought him over to me and he spent the night!  He sure is a cuddler!

I have laundry in the washer and I emptied Frankie's out of the dryer and I'm going to fold it before she gets home from work.  I have another load to do after this one is finished and I can't think of what else needs doing except to pay the monthly bills.  Not a job I really want to do!

LLOYD, I remember having snow cream when I was little and I made it for my kids but I forget how we did it!  It's supposed to snow later this week.  Maybe I'll check it out and give it a try!

I'm having trouble with glasses.  I can't see the computer without my glasses and where they sit on my nose, they hurt after about 10 minutes of wearing them.  So my reading, computing and sunglasses time is limited.

I love all the places you send us, PATRICIA!  I sometimes forget to say so but you can believe it even it I don't say it!

Cooper and I just came back from a walk and it's cold out there.  I really don't want to know HOW cold it is so I'm not looking.

Yesterday, I found a recipe for Scottish Shortbread Cookies and I had all the stuff so I made some.  They turned out pretty good!  They're not as good as WALKER'S and they break up easier but they sure did hit the spot when I dipped them in my coffee this morning!

Now I'm going to put the wash in the dryer, another load in the washer and get down to paying the bills!  I wish you all a good day...better than yesterday but not as good as tomorrow!

Good morning from another frigid Interior at minus thirty-six. We're due for minus eighteen as a high and warming up to minus twenty-six as our low tonight. The rest of February tends to be above in the days and minuses at night.

Today will be one of hopefully doing the tasks I ignored yesterday and doing some bill paying as many come due this time of the month. Speaking of times of the month, it just occurred that there is more than one advantage to being older.

Jane, thank you. My Youtube folder s full of scenic cams and musical interludes whenever I need a break. I'm always finding new ones; for example, there is a twenty-some female YouTuber in Las Vegas who has a competing bodybuilder and body trainer boyfriend who has his own body training Youtube series.

It is impressive to watch how she and her friends, assorted family, and significant others go places and film everything, including making time for multiple selfies. She has made seven plane trips for vacations and family visits, and shopping at all the right stores in the past month. It's highly entertaining to watch how serious everything is viewed. She has been a Youtuber since 2017 or earlier, so I'm not the only one watching.

I don't want to come across as disapproving because I'm not. I'm fascinated at their lifestyle and at her age I was an often broke military wife and a  mother to a small child so it's very different in how my life then and hers is now. If I came from money, I'd be doing something similar I'm sure.  Of course, I have forty-five years on her so it's basically "Dallas" for me.

Good morning everyone, yes I know I missed being here yesterday and no I did enjoy not being here. The stupid CNA I am getting was here half an hour early and woke me up. Really when I called the office to complain the witch there told me to get used to it again.. This poor excuse of a cna cannot do anything or maybe because I am old and wear glasses I am almost blind. I did tell her I am getting tired of having to wash dishes she "washed" over. She did an insulted act and I took some glasses out of the cupnoard she washed and asked if they were clean, she said yes. Told her she needed glasses and held a couple up to the light and could see film on them She put an act on and even called the office. My son Bill came in then and she said nothing. My speakers died and I mentioned it to him the day before so he went to Staples and got new ones. He installed them and still nothing. He called Mike and he came over. All she did the whole time was set at the table with her phone. Mike sat here and brought up a page that showeddifferent things and one was volumn and it was almost off. He adjusted i and back in service with Skype at 4pm.
When her time was up I had to sign her phone and I refused to sigh it because she did nothing.Hope she does not get paid for those 3 miserable hours. They know I am not happy with this one. I will not let her cook anything, she is always playing with her hair, who would like finding hair in their food? Not me, I would throw it away.
I hope and pray none of you are ever in a position where you cannot do much and need someone to help. They sre are not all like Yvette and Fran, the one day I have a nice CNA a week. I will even get my back massaged today.

BUBBLE  the firs t graphic I agree with, Snow is Beautiful.

We have freezing rain in the forecast for the end of the week but this time the manager got smart and had a crew here cleaning the snow off the roof.

Better go get dressed before Fran gets here, laundry day and want to get things together except the sheets, bedding, we do that together.

Will try to do better tomorrow.
Have a good day and stay safe.

Yes I did write that last post hours ago. When I copy past anything like Patricia's links and they try t o copy/paste my post from notepad it just posts the links and have to wait an hour or more to post. I hope I remember that from now on. Fran is up with dry clothes so now will go help her with the bed she is great and I like easing the job for her when I can.

Gloria, you know "I don't know nuthin" when it comes to computers, compared with you..... but my son told me right from the start to use Word Pad and not Note Pad, would that have anything to do with the copy & paste?  When I remember to use it & not be typing on this post box (& probably lose it).... I don't have any problems with it copying & pasteing.

I've been stewing for an hour, we had a good enough snow I have been debating whether to call the great grands to come slide down my hill. It is one of the few places safe, BUT I looked out the sliding door & a family from down the street was going down MY spot. I keep a path worn down all year, the stickers long gone from that path so my Flexible Flyer Sno-Nut won't get holes in it. And there they are wearing off MY SNOW again. Last snow they got there first. They could clean their own path off if they weren't so lazy, Dad & Mom went down as many times as the kids. Really makes me angry, that is "park property" but we pay higher taxes to live where we do. It has taken me 33 years to clean this path & have those trees grow along the river. My Flexible Flyer Sno-Nut is old, bought it when the kids were old enough to go off on their own with the wooden sleds, but not this plastic one. It has hand holds on each side & like an inner tube but with a bottom in it. Just stick feet out front for brakes & it flies! I do take care of it so won't go down any other spot because we have those hard "goat head" type stickers that will puncture rubber boots. Some times life isn't fair~~~   :tissue:

Few flakes floating around & "they say" more & heavier this afternoon, so will hold off on cleaning the driveway. Sorry I had to rant, guess I will have to go out and ask them nicely to clean off their own path.... but wouldn't you realize if someone took the time to clean a path that THEY planned to use it?  Guess that is the problem, some people don't think.

It is 18° with feels like 5°. Birds fed, cats fed, me fed, more flakes floating down so I'm off for a nap, 3 hours & 45 min at night make for a grouch.

Good morning..

Like Lloyd I have snow to deal with...6" of it. When you look out  ,it is a winter wonderland. Trees dressed in snow, page wire fences have pearl braclets on...just beautiful if one doesn't think of the work it makes.

Jane, happy to read that worked for you. Have fun with Cooper and be careful walking. No more trips with bruises as souvenirs.

Patricia, snagged your funny to pass on, thank you.

Gloria, good for you not signing her phone. Maybe, just maybe it might sink in that she does have to work for her money.

Better get my dancing duds on...let the music begin..

Enjoy your day and stay safe!

Gloria,
It's good to blow off some steam once in a while. I read your whole post and agree with most of it. Sounds like some of those CNAs need some re-training.

Have you tried getting milk in smaller containers? Might help keeping the CNA away from it.

Thank you, Bubble, for using one of my old graphics.  Nice to see it again.  And, thanks to those people who hit the "like" button....whomever you are.  ;)

No beautiful snow here today and, if the weather people are right we won't have any either.  It seems that the big storm will miss us and we may only have some rain.  That sounds good to me.  For those of you who have bad weather to put up with....stay safe, don't fall, leave Mother Nature to do away with the snow on the walks and driveways, and stay warm.

Take care, All.

Good Morning Everyone from the
clear and still dry,  Rocky
Coast of Maine.

We are anticipating another Blizzard to
come in sometime in the middle of the night
when the rain will turn to ice and snow.

So, if anything is going to get done out
doors,  now is the time to get to it.

I am going to sit and watch..
my favorite thing to do.

All is well here.  We are all still
Covid ready wearing masks and keeping
our distances so we don't get sick.
I have had all my shots so hopefully if
I get sick it won't be too bad.
That is good enough for me.

I am not happy about the news around the
world,  but it is what it is until it
gets worse,  so  I tend to try and ignore
it hoping it will stop and go away.

Like an Ostrich with my head in the sand!

I am wishing everyone a good day.
So stay warm and stay dry and ignore
that shovel over there  (giggle)  ..

Have a good one EVeryone

A good Thursday morning HELLO to EVERYFRIEND ☃️

Our storm that came in Tuesday afternoon did a good dumping on the entire metro area.  Downtown Denver got 9+ inches, but the airport that is the official site for measurable precipitation only got 4....... We got a good 7 inches and our snow removal crew did not show up until after 6PM last night.  No big deal as we were not going to go anywhere‼️

Yesterday a close family friend had a double mastectomy.  What a day to have to get out and about, but this procedure has been postponed due to Covid, three different times.  She got home around 12 hours later and was getting settled in🙏  These days they seem to just roll you through and out the door you go.

SHIRLEY, I would be upset about "others" using my hill side to sled on as well.  In the old days we would understand/respect "SPACE" and would never do this😩🤪

PATRICIA, I always enjoy everything you share with us, and I thank you.

GLORIA, I am sorry you have to deal with the subpar CNA'S.  Gurr.  Glad you had a good one yesterday.  Seems the office person is subpar also to talk to you the way she does😩🤬

The sun is mighty bright out there this morning.....it is beautiful🥰

Enjoy your day, EVERYFRIEND‼️  Am I the only one that has to log in every time I come in?  It says I want to be logged in FOREVER🤷‍♀️🤷‍♀️

Good Morning,

I haven't tuned in to find out how much snow we had overnight. Suspect the amount is different depending what area the measurement is taken.

I was reminded of the first line of a poem when I looked out at my back yard.  "The fence posts wear marshmallow hats"...except, in my case it's the solar lights along the edges of the flower beds.

No car tracks on the street so am reading the newspaper on-line...and will probably be a Recliner Radish (again  ::) ) reading e-books and playing various versions of Solitaire.

Hope the day is Enjoyable for Everyfriend.

Well, Callie, I just called my trash service and they ARE running routes so I will wrap up and get my dumpster to the street for early Friday morning pick up! None of the "side streets" get plowed or treated around here so I am surprised/shocked. It is 17° but feels like 3° (warmest for the day) so no snow blowing for me. One thing I forgot to do was take an empty bucket & scoop to bring up sand the gophers pile up on the hill... to spread out on the driveway instead of using salt. I do have salt for emergencies but so bad for concrete and the edge of the yard.

Better go finish my "Lupper" as my neighbor used to call my eating habit that was any time between lunch & supper time. I will snack before going to bed but "ain't no rules around this house!"

Thank you, Jenny, I appreciate the sympathy about the neighbors wearing out my snow.

Jane, every time I come in here & scroll past your comment about seeing your shadow I intend to tell you it made me happy to think someone remembered. It used to be such a big deal, what happened, I didn't see any news about it (of course I don't watch NEWS anymore) at all.

I sent Jack Martin a message the other day & got an answer back.... so good to hear from him. Mimi is still with him and being such a good girl. At our age (including our pets) almost afraid to contact someone that hasn't been around for a while.  So, everyone that remembers Jack & his Goldens wave at him, he does check in now & then, he said.

SHIRLEY, I live in Pennsylvania and that's where Punxatawney Phil lives so we do hear a lot about seeing his shadow!

We had rain all day today and there were deep puddles of melted snow everywhere! It was foggy and not a nice day all day...in fact, it's still raining and it's supposed to turn to snow by morning.  Can you imagine what will happen to the roads with all that standing water, snow coming down and colder temps?

I'm here to sign off for the day because I plan to hop into my jammies, and then watch some TV if my eyes don't go into slam shut mode!  If they do, I'll just head for the haystack.  My daughtr is coming up from Maryland and I don't know if she's coming after work tomorrow or waiting until Saturday morning.  I guess the weather will decide that!

I wish you all a peaceful night's sleep and a happy tomorrow.  And may God bless us,every one!

Good morning

No snow to deal with this morning

Lots of catch up jobs to do around home today, they may get done or not.

Callie, you reminded me of when passing a farm that had the huge bales of hay wrapped in plastic we told the grands it was a marshmallow farm!

Shirley ,would id do any good to speak to your neighbours?

Gloria, I read your post, just didn't have time to comment and I agree with you. As I have said before if it wasn't for you, they wouldn't have a job. You sound like an easy person to work for especially when you also help them! Good help is getting harder to find anymore. There are some good ones, you just have to weed the bad ones out.

Jenny, wow ,you got a good snack of snow!! Nice to be able to just look out at it and not have to deal with it.

Enjoy your day and stay safe

Good Morning Everyfriend!  We don't have any snow...yet!  But we sure do have ice!  The temps went below freezing overnight and all that rain we had yesterday is freezing out there.

I'm going to get my second cup of coffee and some breakfast and wait to see what Frankie decides to do!  I'm hoping she calls off work!

AMY, like you, I have things to do around the house.  I might do them and I might not!  I do have to pay a couple bills and get my finances in order!

I wish you all a good day...better than yesterday but not as good as tomorrow!

Good morning to everyone from the Interior at plus three and more snow and ice expected Saturday afternoon as the pluses continue to rise and humidity returns. The only item pressing is to do some returns today and pick up the three items I forgot yesterday.

Good morning everyone, I can see 3 different temperatures 51 on the TV 35 on the PC weather and  43 on local. It was mostly foggy yesterday and it is raining now with the temperature supposed to drop and every thing turn to ice.  Already on local news they are saying to stay home if you can, a lot of accidents already from slippery roads. When I pulled up the shades and looked out I could tell a lot of the big snow piles have shrunk so must have been raining a long time already.

I don't know what is going on but the posts are going backwards for me. The latest one at the top of the page and the  oldest one at the bottom of the page.  Post #45 by Jane at the top and  #16 at the bottom. I have enough problems so am not going to check anything to see why this happened. Start reading from the bottom up?

RICK  around here they no longer have milk in 1 quart bottles containers cartons or whatever one calls them these days.  One problem with these places that have CNAs and homemakers is the coordinators are not trained much either and they have a hard time finding the help they need. Some of the ones who apply are in their late 50's and think the work will be easy or they are young and think they will not have to work hard.  I dislike sitting here and watching them do the work I feel is mine. I am not messy and some days  there is not much for them to do so we sit and talk.

JENNY  That ignorant coordinator must not have been taught when she was trying to at least be polite to the elderly. She was also thrust into the job that she knew nothing about. I do understand they cannot please everyone and most likely never see the ones they send out on jobs.  Most get here  after they have been working 4 hours already and still know they are to go to the bathroom to wash their hands before starting on anything. That is one of the first things they are taught when they are first hired. Yvette and Fran are 2 that I have enjoyed conversations with and both only sit when every thing is done and the only ones who cook for me. Always clean, too.

AMY  thanks.  As I said I sit and watch them do what is my work and feel guilty  so why not help with what little I can do.

LLOYD  hope you have no snow to shovel.

Have a good day and stay safe.

Good morning EVERYFRIEND 🦋

Logged in again.....just do not understand WHY I have to do it each and every time I come in😩😡. It says Iam logged in forever🤪🤪

Sunny day here and hoping it will be a bit warmer.  I am getting ready to head out to my endocrinologist appointment. I am hoping for a good A1C as he will take blood today.  I am not down on my weight as much as I would like to be but I feel I am doing this the smart way.....just a steady pound or two down at at time.

Our hot water heater went out about a month ago and we have been not so patiently waiting for the plumber to come back and finish up the job.  He has put it off many times, but finally made it this morning.....arriving just over one hour late.  He was fitting us in.....or so he said!  We did not care so much that the old tank was sitting here as we did that we have  not had the whole house humidifier running the whole time‼️  It is very dry here and added humidity is a necessity. Now they tell us a solenoid is not working and it has to be replaced before the humidifier will work🤬 How long do we have to wait for this part to be completed 🤷‍♀️

I wish you all a good day 🦋

Jenny

Long day today!  Frankie didn't go to work so I didn't get Cooper!  I did get the bills paid and the books in order.  I also have ham cooking in the crock pot so I can make pot pie tomorrow if Christy makes it here.  She didn't come tonight because of the icy roads.

I finished my library book and it was pretty good.  It was a Mitch Albom bestseller about a group of travelers who survived a boat sinking.

I'm heading for the haystack.  Cathy is picking me up around 8:30 for a trip to Davy's and I really NEED stuff from the store before Christy gets here!  I wish you all a peaceful night's sleep and a happy tomorrow and may God bless us, every one!

Thank you, Bubble.... good thing they did "hit the slopes" last night because the sun pretty well cleaned the hill off today. We needed the moisture so bad but plenty snow left except on the hill. You can't see all the people in the photo, some were down the hill & one guy had just gone off to the left, it really was 2 families and they were having such fun. So little "hootin' & hollerin" these days I am over my mad watching their joy.

There you go, Amy, I turned into a nice little ole lady after all, aren't you proud of me?    Little Red Roadie hasn't been out of their home for 3 days but their mother called to say she put a dozen of their eggs (in a carton  ;) in my mailbox on the porch. I had gone to the store & didn't notice her message for a couple hours, but was cold enough. They are such a nice family & now her parents across the street, even they are a few years younger than I am.

Gloria, other than these posts going backwards, the new computer behaving?  I'm still having the curser pop from one row to another & have to watch for extra letters in a line... On a computer long ago there was a place to adjust the speed of the curser for a person's typing but that was in another world of computers & don't want to confuse my brain, will just cope until it fixes itself.

Jane, I've warned my kids that I will get a dog when the cats are gone & IF I need a trip to the hospital or whatever, I expect one of them to take care of it for me. That was when my dtr-in-law suggested I should think twice about a doberman.... so I will.  They have grands & always lots of people that come & go so must have one good with people. The other son has the Great Dane & daughter does not want or need a pet with all of her travels. Anyway, I like having a fur baby to talk to, they are much sweeter than I am to talk to.

Rick, I enjoyed the link to trains, tried to figure where the one cam is in KC. My friend & I went thru KC every Friday night & back Sunday night when going to school in Omaha one summer. As "railroad brats" riding on MoPac passes, the conductors took care of us like their own so we/they turned seats so we each had our won double seat to sleep on facing each other. We had to go home to eat on week ends because we spent our money on cigarettes & junk food from the store, we walked to school, had been started as a military type training school for teletype, control tower & other classes the government was interested in back then. Goodness, how times have changed! Anyway, I never did place that camera in KC, but KC has changed a lot since 1953. Thanks for the link, I did bookmark to try again.

I've trimmed my hair & had my Sat. shower but have not had supper. Must do that & no clue what to eat tonight. Nothing sounds good. Plenty of food in the house, I even stocked up on soups of all kinds for a night like this.

Better shut up & eat, I could fall asleep again without any trouble. Probably the training we got sleeping off & on was good practice for these years. I stretch out or curl up & less than 5 min can be asleep. 'Night, all.....

Shirley, I haven't heard the rooster crowing behind and wonder if he went to the soup pot! Or maybe just too cold to crow..

Patricia ,you must have a lot of patience to do that for 7.5 hours hope it all works out for you.

Lloyd, hope you didn't get more snow your way. So far we are doing fine here...no new snow to clean up.

Shirley, I wondered, too, so went Googling and found this:

The railway cameras are located at Doc's Caboose in the West Bottoms of Kansas City, Missouri.  West Bottoms is just NW of Downtown KC, and just S of I 70 and I 35.  In the 12th Street area.  And you are right....I wouldn't recognize KC after all these years and I used to know it pretty well..

Good morning, All!  Sunny and chilly here.  Haven't had our Sunday Brunch yet so have to go start that.

Take care.

Nothing much to write about this morning. I slept  most of the day away, maybe I made up some of the hours I missed having CNAs coming so early and that coordinator telling me to get used to it. Boy I wish I had some of the energy I had. Right now I will see what I can find on TV and then hit the couch and go close my eyes to watch TV.

Phyllis, many years ago, 30-35, my brother & I went to visit one of our father's long ago friends that lived in a new high rise retirement place down along the river. She was delighted to see us and I brought along clippings that my grandmother saved that pertained to HER family, so that was even more fun for her. Since their little home town was along the river she decided after her husband died, "she, the old river rat, must go back to the river."

I think she would have kept us with her all day to talk about Dad & the old days, but my brother & I were fascinated in the world that was built down along that river, where KC just runs into the water!  It was a maize of one way streets & buildings that faced several directions. I had  worked in KC for a while, Corp of Engineer Army Map Service that wasn't too far from downtown, so my friend & I would walk a few blocks before catching the bus to the hotel we lived in, it was Westport. It was called the Georgian Court Hotel/Apartments. A 3rd girl shared the apartment with us, had a doorman & all & even in the early/mid '50s was nice. My brother & his wife lived on the Plaza. Having grown up in Sedalia, was where we went to shop or go to shows at the PlaMor. I still love KC & would consider moving to Knox Village in Lee's Summit if ever I leave this house.

Gloria, that's how I've been watching TV this week.... with my eyes closed!  I can't get caught up, and trust me, cats don't help with their sleeping all day & looking so cozy. Sun is bright this morning. Not sure what this day will bring. My kids are busy with various sports things going on with their grands.

Better get moving, been to church & breakfast at McDonald's with the Sunday bunch. Think I will get a nap in before things get busy. Have a great day, think SPRING!

Good morning from an almost balmy Interior during what has customarily been our most frigid month.

Amy, since I spent the majority of the fall and winter unable to use my PSP filters or to undertake most graphics, it has been a trial. Now that I finally discovered a workable solution, I will do more graphics and more involved ones.

Think of it this way, what if, for some reason, you were unable to quilt or sew at all and for over a year. That you regularly watched others producing wonderful quilts, tapestries, and clothing, yet you were unable to contribute?

Joanne, I remember when you first posted that documentary. Jazz had always been my music of choice and I have a number of jazz records and YouTube videos of performances dating back into the thirties. I agree with Jimmy about how it is always changing and yet remains the same.

Guess what???  I saw my first robin today & got a photo of it. Didn't send to Bubble 'cause I've sent her too many to post for me lately & think it must be boreing. It was sitting in the tree chirping when I noticed Roadie standing at the gate waiting for a snack. Darn chicken wanted to come into the pool area and both cats were sitting right there guarding the gate! Roadie not at all concerned about cats. I tol'ja it was starting to look like spring under this snow & ice. ;)  Buds on the tree even look fat.

Shirley - I saw three robins in a small tree behind our house. Also, when I went out to feed the wildlife in front a robin perched on the top of a boxwood just off our front porch. It had to be the one from last year as it sat there and "talked" to me. It remembered it can get raisins from us.  I gave it some raisins and it was back at least three times today.  Woodpecker and cardinal also around, along with the sparrows and doves.  Now if we only could get the temperature up a bit.
The ground is frozen and with the snow/rain we had the other day we took some water in. In the sixty (appx) years I've lived here we never had water come in.  It came in where the water service pipe comes in.  The warmth from the foundation probably left a path for it to run. Will check that area when spring gets here.

Wow, Rick, I will have to get some raisins out for the robin, never thought about them eating them. I fed the one that built nests around here for 8 years cooked/scrambled hamburger & scrambled egg plus some honey wheat berry bread bites. I did NOT plan to go worm hunting for her!  Sorry about the water getting in.... I am expecting my hot water heater to go any time, wanted to get it done before it blows since it is already 10 years old. We never get one to last that long with our hard water. Easy to put something off when you don't want to do it.

It was 40° when I sat down here a few minutes ago & dropped to 37° so better go see if Callie is ready to come back inside. No clue why she took a notion to go back out, but she used to have a friend that came to visit her every night. Haven't seen it for quite a while. I'm heading to bed early so ......... Sweet dreams & God Bless    Shirley

Good morning...

Not sure if I hear music playing or not..maybe just let it be if there is not a lot of snow?
Temp is +10° this morning, with cloudy skies.
Enjoyed sewing yesterday and friends dropping in later on in the day for a visit.

Patricia, loved the photos and antsy for Spring to come now. Have most of my garden seeds already!

Shirley ,is this early for your robin? Little fella would have to go through 2' or so of snow to find his dinner here.

Rick ,it sounds like you have a wonderful display of birds there.

Enjoy your day and stay safe.

Good Morning Everyfriend!  I've been up since 6:30.  Cooper arrived at 7, had his breakfast with me and then we took a walk in the freezing cold, bright sunshine.  The low temp was 18 and it's now 21 heading for  a high of 37.  I'm praying for February to be over as soon as possible.  I think the people who made February the shortest month must have disliked it as much as I do!

I have my beef cooking to make veggie soup.  when it's finished it will go in the freezer until the rest of the ingredients are accumulated and then the soup will be made and canned.  It'll take a while!  And this is just the first of the meat.

I really miss not having my car.  Having to depend on others for rides is something I'm not used to doing.

PATRICIA, I looked at all those flowers and I decided I'm ready for SPRING!  It's too cold out there for ANYTHING!

I wish you all a good day... better than yesterday but not as good as tomorrow!

QuoteRick ,it sounds like you have a wonderful display of birds there.
They are the best part of my day.  It is early for robins here (just north of NYC) but they are here. My friendly robin came onto the porch right in front of me this morning for it's raisin handout. It's 32°F and light snow, so all birds are scrambling for food. Woodpecker, two cardinals, blue jays and a couple of random squirrels, and the usual sparrows and doves. Twice in the last week large flocks of some type of black birds were in the area and decorating the trees. Like a scene from Hitchcock's "The Birds". Don't know if they are going North or South.

I'm trying to post, but this is the third time.  I keep hitting something on the laptop that deletes my entire post.  Not the delete button, so not sure.  I've had it awhile, but just now started really using it.

Sooo....good morning.  My font looks small to me.  Is it?  I did use the bold option, but not sure that's enough.  I'll figure it out. haha

We are having beautiful weather here on the Oregon coast.  It was 70 yesterday.

I'll try to be here more, and try not to delete my post and figure out the font thing.  Some days I feel really dumb.  I'm always surprised at how quickly I forget how to do things that used to be so easy.  :D

Thank you, Bubble, you are speedy! I talked too long about the camera over in Photos so will keep mouth shut here. Or maybe not! This is my entertainment, I wish everyone that wanted a camera with big/long zoom could have one of these. They are small enough to not tire one out carrying, can put hundreds of photos on the SD cards & can crop & still get good detail.  Any eBay shopper can find all prices but do not think we paid as much 10 years ago as the asking on Amazon. 'Nuff said.........thanks, again!

Rick, I agree. I watch bird tv every time I look out the kitchen window. At the moment there are about 14 jays and one lonely starling. Guess he stayed behind when the others grouped together to go but seems to be doing alright. Doves will come and enjoy the bird feed and corn also. Crows have moved south for now but every so often we will get one or a raven will drop in.
edited to add. .chickadees and sparrows are now dining. :)

Jane, just keep thinking of all the good things you have by not having a car. ...no gas, no repairs, no license or insurance to buy. Gosh, you will be pocketing the moola!!

Speaking of birds....I have so many crows. I don't have my boys (canine) anymore so I decided since I have so many hanging out, I'll start feeding them. They are my pets now lol  The original murder got to know me and weren't afraid.  This group are skittish, so they watch me toss food, then wait till I'm out of sight to fly down and eat. They come every morning though, sit on the power line outside my window and wait.  I like watching them eat.  One little guy always dunks his food in the water pan firt.  They are fun to watch...They're my entertainment.  :)

Nita, we noticed that with the wild ducks we raised, they would run to dunk so I started putting a tray of water out for them. Remember the old TV trays with the long legs, birds & ducks thought they were just the right size without legs.

Rick, saw the robin out back searching for worms today so not sure where to put the raisins she/he will see them. I had an out of date bag in the frig so expect they will be okay for birds, maybe I should soak them before feeding, a few at a time?  Nice that so many enjoy watching the birds, my husband always told me "someone's going to throw a net over me" since I go out the door talking to any bird around. What kind of woodpeckers do you have?  We have downy, flicker, & something else that has yellow feathers. It was the one that drove Cas nuts pulling grass out to get to the worms under!

Patricia, I enjoyed the link to polar bears, they look like good renters!

Amy, you are right about how much is saved by not having a car. My mother's next door neighbor didn't drive so she arranged to have a cab with same driver always come to her house. That was before Uber.... Like she explained to Mother, she didn't have to buy a car, pay taxes on one, pay for insurance, maintenance and gas and they picked her up at her door & dropped her off at the door where she was going. Of course, Mom always took her to Garden Club because they belonged to the same club.

And, Jane, think about it, you don't have to clean snow off or worry about tires, batteries & all that good stuff. I know, not always as convenient but for sure those cab or Uber fees won't be as much as owning a car. I noticed when buying gift cards the other day that Uber gift cards are hanging on the rack as well, so always something the family can give you for special days!

And now I'm ready to get jammies on & curl up. Oh, I know why I'm so tired, I woke up at 12:34 last night from a bad dream. Thought my car had been broken in & was going through all the stuff they took... hidden money, guns, all the ID stuff, a real nightmare! I didn't get out of bed but it took me an hour or more to resolve the problem of what to do if I ever travel in the little car. I feel much safer in the motorhome than in a motel when traveling... haha, have gun will travel. I know I will have to give it up one of these days but so far no dents or fender benders or accidents, so will deal with that when time comes.

Sweet dreams & God Bless.... Tisie/Shirley

I think it is a Red-Bellied Woodpecker -- but I'm not sure. Some look so much alike it's hard to tell.  They wont stay still so that one can study them.

Good morning everyone, 35° and might go up to 45 and it is pouring. Snow piles are shrinking. Rain is in the forecast every day this week.

Reading about the birds you see and enjoy I am jealous. See only a few here, Crows at times making a racket. We used to have a a hummingbird feeder in front of the porch when I moved here. We all enjoyed watching them. Lasted 2 years before the witch had maintenance man take it down. She claimed they made the place dirty. Never saw a mess but she does not like us enjoying anything. I miss seeing all the birds I had at my feeder out of my kitchen window at my son's house.

Loved watching the Polar bears video. So different seeing them inside of buildings and not walking on the ice floes. Wished there were a lot more lions there to turn on those dumb drivers and people hanging out the windows to take pictures. That would maybe scare them off and stop bothering the lions.

Cannot see any posts for today so might as well post if I can. Something is wrong in here, maybe I should try to get in touch with Michael and he can see of something is wrong in my settings in here. I checked but cannot see anything but then what I think is right in wrong.

Good morning..

Really mild out this morning with a temp of 27° F no snow in the forecast until Wed.

Continue on with cleaning cupboards today. I don't know how they get in disarray but it is time to get them back in order.

Nita, hello to you. I for one love the crows and ours have moved south but we do have some stragglers in the area.
Love watching them come to the feed I throw out and each Spring look for Mr Dropwing..so far he has made it back each time.

Gloria, when is Yvette coming back.....should be soon I hope!

Patricia, if the lions turned on them it would be the lion that would pay dearly with his life. Can't fix stupid when it comes to some people.

Jane ,think of all the times you have taken others to whatever they needed, now it is your turn to be chauffeured. Call it pay back with a loving heart from them. : )

Better get going.

Enjoy your day and stay safe.

Good Morning Everyfriend!  Things like Uber are not around out in the country.  I live on the outskirts of a small country town.  We have a college here but it's  one of those with students who have their own transportation.  Aside from that, if you live in the country, you own a car.  That's how it is!  I think there's one taxi in town.  However, Cathy is retiring in April and she'll be available a lot of the time and she's FREE!  It's just a different life!

PATRICIA, I loved the lion videos but I felt so sorry for them. Why can't people just let them live their lives!

I wish you all a good day...better than yesterday but not as good as tomorrow!

Good morning everyone. It's still morning here, with beautiful sunshine.

I'm getting ready to go look at the lion video Patricia posted.  I'll probably get mad, like I usually do, when I see how disrespected animals are by some humans.  If I was a slapping up along side the head kind of nice old lady...that's what I'd like to do sometimes.

I fed my crows this morning.  How my crow care started....I stepped into my back yard one morning to an awful sight.  I have a tall wooden slatted (is that a word?) fence around the yard.  A crow had logdged himself between one of the slats, his head on one side, his body on the other.  His body was on my side.  I thought he must be dead, so put on my gloves and went to lift him out of the fence.  I put my hands around his body and slowly lifted him to the top of the fence till both sides, head and body, were free.  Then I felt movement.  I just held him there and felt his heart beat right through my gloves.  They I let him go.  He flew to my apple tree and there he sat.  Pretty traumatized I'm sure.  Finally he flew away.  That's when I decided I need a new calling.  I will be a crow lady.   That was maybe 3 years ago.  I've been feeding them daily ever since.  It makes me feel good.  :thumbup  I know crows are smart, and they are here for the food.  When they start their cawing when the see me coming out, I pretend they are saying thank you.  And I always say "you're welcome". ;D  ;D

Hi, Sandy. I remember your visit. Yes, that WAS a long time ago.  And we are still kicking. lol

Tuesday is over and done......theses days just keep flying by.

I had PT today and as you know they have become more concerned about my inability to get my arm away from my body.  My motion is fantastic when they do it, but I can not do it myself. They think I have axillary nerve palsy from my original fall.  The trauma I had with them trying to get my shoulder back in the socket.  I am to see my surgeon two weeks from yesterday, and they want me to try to see him sooner.....I do not know what this means.....is it permanent??  What can they do?  Dang‼️. I am also still having some issues with my blood oxygen levels so I now have a appointment with a pulmonologist the middle of March.  Kind of hard to keep up one's spirits😩😩😩

We have been watching and enjoying the Olympics.  I would be happy if it only consisted of skating....love all of it.  The girl from Russia, Kamilia  and Nathan Chen are so wonderful to watch.

Have a good night of rest💤💤

Good morning..

Another milder day with snow coming Thur,Fri and Sat..doesn't that just tickle ones funny bone!

Canning apples today is on the to do list.have them all sliced and ready to go this morning.

Jane, is today your soup canning day? The other day when I knew dancing with MR SB would tucker me out I grabbed a jar of hamburg, carrots, turnip and potatoes. Threw them all in a pot with onion soup mix and celery  put them on the back of the woodstove and let it simmer.

Jenny, I am sorry to read you are having such a time with that arm....hope they do have a solution for you that doesn't involve another surgery.

Nita, thank goodness you saw that crow or he would have likely died!  Crows are so smart, they are not selfish as they will find food then caw for others to join them. They also look out for each other, leaving a sentinel to look out for them while eating. I love it when they bring their young with them, just as big as they are yet will flap their wings at Mom and Dad waiting to be fed.

Phyllis, hope all is well with you. I made the panera chicken and wild rice soup the other day and added in mushrooms and green peas. Really good soup..

Better get going..

Enjoy your day and stay safe..

Good Morning Everyfriend!  This typing area is acting really funny lately!  I type something and when I look at it, it's only have there and when I hit the backspace to correct, it doesn't go anywhere.  Once I get it going, it's OK but it sure is frustrating to try getting started.

Frankie spent the night last night and Cooper slept with me until around 4 then he went and hunted up his Mommy and finished the night with her.

JENNY, I sure hope you get some relief soon!  It's been a long time repairing your shoulder.  I'm still praying for you!

I'm going out to lunch for the first time since my surgery and I've decided that I'll order soup!  I know I can manage that without slopping it down my face.  I have to get get ready.  This is my work group from PA House Furniture Office.  We've been getting together about once a month for several years now.  It's nice to see everyone again!  And we're going to our usual place for the last time.  It's announced it's closing in the near future.  It's a very good local place that's been in business for more than 50 years.  I knew the original owners personally and it's their daughter who is closing.

AMY,  happy dancing this weekend.  The soup sounds good!  I got a new recipe from my daughter that uses a lot of the stuff on my canned goods shelf.  She's a canner too.  And a grower!

I wish you all a good day...better than yesterday but not as good as tomorrow!

We're finally seeing some sun today.  Feels good.

The soup sounds good, Amy.  I made an InstPot full of Chili last weekend.  David just finished it off for dinner last night.  It was good but not my best.  I didn't have any green peppers so substituted carrots.  Didn't taste as good as usual..IMO.

Jane, have you tried vacuuming the keyboard.  It might have some crumbs or dust down in it that keeps the keys from making good contact.  I'm not criticizing your housekeeping.  Dust just happens!

Take care, All.

Apples are done and cooling off till I can wash the jars off label and put away.

Phyllis,  when the pup was small he put his feet up on my keyboard and knocked the #1 key off. Every now and again
it will lift off on me. I know what you mean about dust being attracted to the key board plus I might have a few (lot) crumbs there also.
Kitchen is cleaned up and now I can play..

Jenny, I am so sorry to hear about more issues with your shoulder. I think Rammel had some good advice for you in Norm's.

Jane, I'll bet you enjoyed having Cooper spend the night again, and Frankie too... :)   It will be nice to be out and to have lunch with your friends again.

Amy, I hadn't heard of your soup before and looked it up. I did find this copycat recipe from a restaurant I'm not familiar with. I posted it on the recipes site as hers was a bit lengthy.

Phyllis, normally I'd be running for the vacuum to clean out the crumbs but this keyboard was new when my daughter, Cindy was here from OK.  She was working part time while she was here and she had a new keyboard and screen and it's only been here since she left in late November.

Lunch was nice with old friends!  I'm glad I went!

Frankie is here to pick up her stuff and her doggie and as soon as they leave, I'm letting my eyes go into slam shut mode for a little while!  Have a good rest of the day!

Good morning everyone, 28° but feels like 19 but going up to 45° later. I know here in the New England states our weather is crazy at times and in RI with ocean water on 2 sides and 2 different states on the other sides we get weird temperatures here. In the winter it can be at least 20° colder than the "official" temperature from the airport near the Atlantic and in summer it can be 25° hotter with no breeze from the ocean.

JANE  like where you live this town covers a big part of the northwest part of the state and until about 40 years ago was very rural with mills where locals worked. Then some dumb political jerk started sending all those jobs overseas. Locals had to start going into cities for work and needed cars. Odd there were new car dealers in town for every different company and locals at one time bought all their cars from them but as others traveled more they found better deals elsewhere. Now there is a couple of used car dealers.Even a couple of new buildings in the once busness section the former governor insisted we needed and no one wanted. Yhen she started sending homeless trouble makers from cities to live. That area now keeps the polce force busy. One bus goes by here in the morning only going to Providence and returns late afternoon. No taxi or any other means of publlic transportation either. Before covid hit there was a towncar that would pick up seniors for doctor appointments and you had to call as soon as you had an appointment to make sure you have the car for then but still have time to change if needed. Then on Wednesday morning they had a town bus to pick up the Semiors and take them to the CVS  pharmacy and then the the one and only market in town. That I am so glad I don't have to do, went in there once when I first moved here and wanted only a couple of potatoes, all the loose onew were rotten. Then wanted some lunch meat and they had one slicer they used for cheese and meat, that was caked up with everything they sliced and as if that was not bad enough there were flies all over it.  Never went in there again.

JANE  I like looking at animal in their natural settings and not where stupid people harrass them.. Best zoo I ever went to was the one in San Diego. Every species had their own area set up to be the way it was for them in the wild. 2 diferent  elephants -one African and the other from India not even in the same area of the zoo. Even the feeding area for each specie of animal was made of poured cement and looks like old logs or hollow rocks that they would see in the wilds.  The big cats and monkeys and apes were all seperate and not one can escape. There were trees for them to climb and swing from. Sosme tall trees for the giraffs to stand in the shade of the leaves they could no longer reach to eat.

NITA  are you the Nita that used to do PSP? If so we used to email each other at times. Never saw your avatar back then, goodness that could not have been back in SN-if so that was years ago. I remember we lived opposit sides of the US.

JENNY  I feel bad for you with your shoulder. My right replaced one is still OK but the left one it really hurting now.  I should call my Dr. for an appointment to see if I shold finally get that one replaced or at least a cortisone shot in it. Really do not want to be in a hospital when there is still to many cases of covid around.  the figure skating is the only thing I have enjoyed for years  but this year I have not watched it even once. All they do these days is jumps and more jumps, even the girls now, nothing graceful anymore. I think Michelle Kwan is the last one whe did the jumps she had to but her skating was always graceful.

Think I finaly caught up. I started this at 8:30 am this morning. too many phone calls and then the only good CNA I have been getting and it was laundry day and we cooked,  too. I have been on my feet most of the day and really want to lay down on the couch for a little but no can do. Will be time for my Skype date with my daughter. Have a good night and sleep good and eake refreshed

Have good dreams and stay safe.

Good afternoon, Gloria!

Thanks, Amy, and I clicked like on that too! :(

In my defense, I don't often think of IP recipes after reading as I don't have or use an IP.

I'm more likely to use the back of the stove simmering method. I even gave away my slow cooker recently. My biggest utensil of recent choice is my manual wok, a 7" nonstick frypan, and a 2 cup saucepot.

I do have a Crockpot brand slow cooker which bills itself as the original slow cooker. It's a round, black, 1.5 slow cooker without any addons other than a cord. I use it as another pot that I don't have to watch.

Heavy skies out there this morning so a quick trip into town for some groceries and home to wash off the jars from the canner and put away. Picking up extra cheese to grate and freeze for later and looks like someone filled the laundry basket so will do that too. Bread should be made either today or tomorrow....will see.

Good morning everyone, 35° but feels like 28 and dark gray clouds.
Fran  the CNA yesterday is a worker. laundry and cooking and dishes. She had to leave for her next client and the dishes were all over the kitchen and I know her and she would have come back on her own time later to do them and clean up. I told her I could manage but the dishes are in the sink and the lazy one will have to do them today. I could not stand even 5 minutes after Fran left.

PATRICIA  like you I have 2 slow cookers the big one I have only used for applesauce. I get 7 containers of sauce when the apples are cooked down, the other one is about half the size, I have cooked a roast and vegetables in it or made baked beans in it. Don't do much cooking anymore and no appetite.

The lazy one will be here soon, have to have my breakfast and maybe I can do a few of the dishes before she gets here,

Have a good day and stay safe

I just got a phone call from the grocery store.  They had to make 6 substitutions on things I had ordered.  It's as bad about substitutions and out of stock items as it was back in the early days of Covid.  And, the prices just keep going up and up.  I read in the news this morning that inflation has increased more than 7% and expected to go higher.  I only know that my grocery money buys a lot fewer groceries than it used to.  <sigh>

I hope that is the only gripe I have today and I got it over with early.  ;D  The rest of the day should be just fine.  At least, the sun is out and shining brightly.  That always lifts my "grumps".

Take care, All.

OK, now I am gripy, PHYLLIS! I, too, hope this is my only gripe of the day 🤪🤪. BTW,your gripe was definitely justified ‼️. I logged in here, as required for me these days, and started my post......got distracted for 10 minutes, MAYBE??  Poof, it logged me out and took my very nice start of a post with it😩😩

It is a beautiful day here again today.  Sure feels good and lifts my spirits🥰. Today Bob and I have dermatology appointments.  Hoping for no surprises, of course.

I thank you all for your supportive comments on my ongoing shoulder issue!  I sure do appreciate you all.  I just want to be able to tell you it is ALL GOOD and never have to discuss it again🤪🤪🤪

GLORIA, go in and at least get the cortisone shot....I sure wish I had done it sooner for my "good arm" as I was in horrible pain for much too long.  Now it only hurts occasionally if I strain the rotator a bit too much, and not that constant pain! There are two skaters that are phenomenal, Nathan Chen from the USA and Kamala Valienva from Russia, a 15 year old gal!  Check them out if you can as I think you would like them. They both have won Gold Medals, how ever there is a question about the Russian as she tested positive for a drug before she skated.  Something to help the heart be stronger😩😩😡 My heart dropped when I heard the news as I never thought a wonderful young girl like that would need to do something like that.  Shame on her trainers!

I ❤️ all the discussion about the soups you have been making, and thank you PATRICIA, for pointing me to the recipes and helping make some a bit easier to follow.
Thank you, I too think Rick had a wonderful suggestion.

JANE, always happy to read you were with your retired friends for a nice lunch gathering.  I sure HOPE spring is on the was.  We have sure been seeing more birds and that is always a promising sign‼️

Guess I had best get this posted, even though I have been hitting save every paragraph I have typed🤪🤪

Enjoy your day, EVERYFRIEND 🦋

Jenny

The day has progressed not too bad. Put away the canned apples, started a wash and it is now dry and almost put away and grated 6 or so lbs of cheese.

Phyllis I am with you on the gripe, my tea has gone from 4.97 a box to 9.97 same box same size!!  Dairy products are to go up ,milk has already and cheese will soon follow ,bought cheese at 3.99 this morning and was told it will be $7-8.00. soon.No let up here and every time you go shopping prices are higher!

Patricia, I have had animals in the past that would "protect" me. Tyler a Border Collie would have a persons hand in his mouth if they attempted to touch  me. Or if I even said OW he would go between a persons legs and bark......sure took the colour out of a mans face!  Buttercup, a Jersey cow would push other animals  away from me. Not that good when I was checking others in the herd out but she too was protective. Now, we just found out this pup Jesse is also protective. The other night I was in my recliner and when Kyle passed by he let on he was going to tickle my feet..he no sooner reached out and Jesse off his couch and growled!! Surprised the both of us. Next night Kyle wanted to see if Jesse would do it again or it was a one time thing and this time Jesse barked at Kyle and came between Kyle and I. Who said dogs are mans best friend?  :2funny:

Amy, I agree...animals return what they receive, be it humans or another species. Long ago, I had a wire-haired terrier who protected smaller animals from those he thought threatening. He even came between my two cats when they were play fighting!

My daughter goes home in the morning after nearly 2 weeks waiting for Grandparents Day for her 3 that live here. Had to postpone because of the snow that hit the day after she got here. Anyway, it's been a busy time & I can hardly keep my eyes open here at 5:03pm.

Been thinking, after reading that Prince Charles tested positive for Covid again.... what if HE should die before being King, would it fall to the Queen's next child (Ann), since she did change the inheritance rules. If Charles is NOT King you'd think it would go to next child, I do think Ann is older than Andrew (no question, he would not be crowned).... Okay, just thinking...

I've enjoyed following the Royals ever since my sister exchanged letters with a girl her age during WWII. Many years later my family noticed that in each of my siblings families we had a dark, curly haired son as well as a blond straight haired one. My brother's son looked so much like Prince Andrew you could mix photos of the boys & not know which one was which. My son was  also spittin image of Andrew & the other has same blond straight hair as Prince Edward.

Then when my brother did all the genealogy research discovered Queen Elizabeth & Dad had the same grandfather 11 generations back, she decended from one son & our father came down from the other son. That is also how we came to have this anemia that followed some of the Royals (including the young Czar of Russia). Trust me, no envy at all, I am free and they have been bound to following rules or world wide critizism. But it has been fun to see how their lives have changed over the years. And am serious about the reality that if Charles is NOT KING would his children be heirs or does Ann have a chance to test the water on the male versus female line.

Nice to think about someone else's problems, huh?  :)

Shirley, it would be passed to William. A lot of people wish that it would go to William instead of Charles.
There is no way that Andrew would stand a chance. Most places are trying to remove any recognition of him  eg street names etc.

In my opinion,  there is no real difference between Charles and Andrew, and have often heard from various PBS News Reports many people have reported that they feel the same while living under his "patronage."

Post by: Shirley on February 10, 2022, 08:11:46 PM
My new antivirus, updates & settings won't let me get the link, Amy.... is "general" opinion or law that it wasn't done in time for Ann but could be for Charlotte?  I do think a lot of people would rather have "Wills" step in because Charles should never have married their mother if he always intended to run back to Camilla once he got his "heir & spare". Very sad they were all caught in the times, but Elizabeth would not be queen if her uncle had not been the man he was. At least he had guts to give up the throne. And that is why I said I would never have envied the Royals their life. I think it might be a little easier for the next generation, though.

I also believe that whatever the country pays them, they earn it by keeping it basically free. When we lived there 65+ years ago being Communist was not a secret & the ones that owned the laundry service we used knew all the tricks of taking advantage of the GIs. One time I rebelled & refused to pay the bill because they kept half the laundry... cotton socks, cotton anything  (for me to wash & dry was nearly impossible, especially cotton sheets). Wasn't that long after WWII so cotton was hard to come by. Every week we had missing stuff but still had to pay for it being laundred!!! Now that hurt!

Within an hour my husband was called in by the base commander because the laundry called to report my refusal to pay. That ended round one, from then on my landlady sent it off & paid for me so all was well. I don't believe Communism can stand strong in a country with a king or queen in power. But what do I know? I think Queen Elizabeth has been the most honorable person in my life that was in public eye. I don't think the same of Charles but do think William has had a good look at what life can be if you play by the rules.

Hate to admit that I almost feel sorry for Andrew because those girls/women throw themselves at someone with money/power and act like they are so innocent. Poor dumb guys don't know how to walk away. And I have no doubt the girls are in it for the money all the way, and wouldn't hesitate to lie about being taken advantage of... We all have choices and if you are going to play the game with the big boys you should know the rules (female or male). Rape is one thing & I would have no problem shooting someone in that case, but I've spent a lifetime taking care of myself so feel I am as safe as possible whatever the situation.

Okay, shut up, Shirley. Are we tired of talking about Covid?  I am, but afraid around here we may run into trouble with so many not wearing masks or using wipes at the stores. I do & will continue, but I remember what it was like when polio was so feared. And like with polio, nobody knows what will show up 50 years later. Already talk about heart damage & lungs. Oh, well, we don't want to talk about that, right....

I'm heading to bed early, going to have a bowl of chili & feed cats again. I am so angry about not finding stuff at the store, been 3 times to get canned salmon for the cats & they can't get it in.... not the cheap kind. They each get a heaping tablespoon for breakfast & can go thru a $3. can in a hurry so I'm refusing to pay more. They may have to survive on cat food, can't even get the Friskies Indoor Delights so had to switch them to 9 Lives same type. They won't eat whatever they are putting in the hamburger at Sam's & Walmart so I buy eye of round roasts & cut into small bites for them. Same price per pound but a lot more work!

Sweet dreams to all, God Bless.  Shirley

Interesting observations!  I'm not entering any opinions but they caused a lot of thoughts to circulate in my head.

Good Morning Everyfriend!  Cooper arrived around 7 this morning.  We've eaten and taken a long walk.  We were just in time to meet all the elementary kids waiting for the school bus.  He loves that!

Now I'm ready for my second cup of coffee!  Right now, it's all the way up to 27º but the forecast says it's heading for a high of52º. I do believe Spring is just over the mountain and it WILL be coming here soon.  I can hardly wait!

I hope you all have a good day...better than yesterday but not as good as tomorrow!

P.S. Cindy wants me to to come to Oklahoma and spend a hunk of the summer with her.  She's willing to fly up here, rent a car and drive me there.  She also said we could take some side trips on the way there and meet up with some of my Senior Friends.  How about that, SHIRLEY?  Any one else on the way?

Jane, while Spring is closer to you ol man winter is saying let it snow let it snow here. We have an Alberta clipper coming through dumping more snow on us. I hope to leave it go until tomorrow morning.

Gloria, where are you?? Hope you have a good CNA today ..

I managed to get laundry folded along with making a pot of pea soup....18 min in the IP.and it was good!! Made bread and ran out of steam :(

Patricia, are you getting snow?

Jane, if I'm not on the way I would sure drive to OK to gather. Lloyd is also on the way. We used to have some friends in St.Louis area .... we will find some way to get together! I expect Cindy has her fav route, like you, I like to see family & friends along the way. We'll talk about that when the time comes.

I'm off to take a nap, daughter just called & is home, I've been to Walmart, had lunch & SO sleepy. Feels like the cold front got here earlier then expected. Could be the wind, it is howling and always makes it feel bitter. I can't believe we have another weekend already.

Good noontime from the Interior. Yes, we've had those big lazy twisting in the wind, snowflakes, and some 2-4" accumulation. However, the graders and dump trucks have stayed on top of it.

Nothing new here, everything remains the same.

PAtRICIA, you're one I'd REALLY love to visit.  Alaska is the only one of the 50 states that I've never had a chance to visit.  I pore over the pictures you post and I drink in all the geography and history you post.  I really wish I'd had a chance to complete my states!

CALLIE, I was expecting to see you while I was in OK and I remember that LLOYD is on the way.... "sort of".  I can't think of anyone else along the way.  Cindy is not a "we have to get there" person.  She likes to see the sights and visit with friends on the way!

And speaking of "on the way"...I'm on the way to the haystack!  I didn't get a nap today and my eyes are about to enter slam shut mode!  I wish you all a peaceful night's sleep and a happy tomorrow.  And may God bless us, every one!

I am breathing heavy, maybe even sleep mode.... finally finished eating, went in stages tonight. Not much to show for my day but did get 6 cans of salmon for the cats & was told another shipment due in Sat but not unloaded until Sunday so that will be a stop after church & breakfast with the Sunday bunch. Should be a normal week of highs in the 60s & low near freezing except for Tuesday & high upper 60s (earlier today the prediction of 71) with low of 54... but that can change daily! It is starting to look/feel like spring but winter still lurking.

Callie, figured you'd be our center point for OK.... if we gather there. I don't know much about the highways in OK but know at one time there was talk about an interstate from St.Louis across southern MO instead of KC, cutting thru the Lake of the Ozarks area & across OK south. Would be a pretty drive & that red clay we see in the lake area does go thru Kentucky & Tenn & same red clay in OK. Makes nice pottery. I love to drive, travel, just mosey along.

You are right, we need that old bus.   Off to bed, sweet dreams & God Bless.

Good morning; I also slept in, turned off my alarm, and stuck my nose back under the blanket. I awoke at 8:21, and now with coffee brewing and Farrah fed, it's 8:44. Outside, snowfalls and temperatures remain the same, unusually warm for February.

Good morning, Lloyd!

Gloria, I'm glad; it's just a need for more sleep and not more computer woes. Morning Shirley, I hope your nap is warm and comfortable!

Amy, aren't you just a small part peeved that Jane isn't willing to go thousands of extra miles to include us in her possible visit? I mean, come on, what're a few extra unnecessary miles between friends?

Shirley,  I-44 goes directly from St. Louis to Tulsa - and then on to OKC and points southwest of there.
Beautiful drive through southwestern Missouri/northeastern Oklahoma and is about 30 miles south of Lake of the Ozarks.

Okay, Jane, we'll figure this out when you decide. I have not looked at the US map for the best route from east to west, my cousin that lives in the general area of where Jack lives, used to drive every year back to central MO to visit her siblings. I think they went back east & all met "along the Outer Banks" this year. Their route is sort of north, not too far from Baltimore, but you will be checking out all main routes before leaving, I'm sure!

I'm heading to bed early, the mind keeps busy even if the body refuses to keep up! Fitbit said I had about 2 hours awake last night. I knew I did some thinking & thought I did good. Guess Fitbit did not approve. My alarm is set for 5:00am to feed cats & have a bite for me before going to church. Sweet dreams and God Bless. Think HAPPY! We are cold here!

Good morning everyone. Hope I get this post better than yesterday. I talked for more than hour with Yvette Friday. Was so good to laugh like we did. The muscles in her thigh are not strong enough for her to comeback to work, latest date will be around March 11. she is getting tired of all the PT she is going to every week. Her son who lives about  10 miles from her has been taking her grocery every 2 weeks and brings every thing into the house and puts things away where she tells him thing go.
Yesterday it went up to 66° and this morning everything is white again, yep everything is covered in snow again and coming down pretty big flakes and fast. Beautiful!

LLOYD  life is miserable when one does not get a good night's sleep. I really found that out since Yvette has been out for her knee surgery.

PATRICIA  I was AND STILL AM a computer traveler, but not as much lately. Cannot sit long here these days. Maybe a good thing I am unable to do and PSP. Would take forever to do a simple tutorial.

Have a good day and be safe.

I have to go get cleaned up and dressed and ready to "attend" church.  I've been going on line every Sunday and I learned that they can see me so I have to appear in something besides PJs.  And I have to comb my hair!

AMY and GLORIA, please keep all that white stuff up where you are!  I've had enough.  We were supposed to get snow overnight but I think we only got a few flakes and they didn't last.  Thank you!

I wish you all a good day...better than yesterday but not as good as tomorrow!

White stuff --- What are you talking about?

Ehhh - It's been snowing since late last night and looks like about two inches.  It's Sunday so an overtime day for the City plowers. So the roads are pretty clear. But the snow that is on the ground is wet and heavy.
Our Robin came right to the back porch window for a handout this morning, and then just stayed there against the window keeping warm (smart bird).
Need coffee.
Happy Day to all.

Jane ,no snow here too cold to snow but this  coming week weather is to warm up and rain!!The snow banks do need to be taken down some as they are dangerously high in some places. Highway sent backhoes out to daylight some corners, that way we don't have to poke our nose out too far to see oncoming traffic.

Rick, whoever termed the saying "birdbrain" didn't know birds. They are smart and trainable. If I whistle, after throwing food out,  all too soon crow and his buddies are here.

Gloria, both you and Yvette are counting the days when she can come back to work for you.

Amy -
What is too cold to snow? At what temperature does that happen. Our prior snow here was when it was about 20°F.

Rick....we were at minus 27°F this morning and if and that is a big IF we do get any snow it would be very fine snow.....not really the accumulating snow. As it warms up we are more apt to get snow . Leave that heavy wet snow for  someone else to move. That is nasty stuff to move even the snowblower doesn't like it as it comes out of the chute it is like a slushy!

"Snowfalls when the temperature drops below the freezing point of water, but when it's really cold you may hear people say, "It's too cold to snow!" Can this be true? The answer is a qualified "yes" because snowfall becomes unlikely once the temperature of the air at ground level drops below -10 degrees Fahrenheit (-20 degrees Celsius)."

Time to think about the haystack!  I hope Everyfriend had a good day.  I had a lonely one.  Nobody stopped by and I didn't have a doggie visitor either!  I did get all the meat cooked and I have some good broth for the veggie soup.   Now I have to assemble all the rest of the stuff, get it made and canned (and eat some along the way).  I'm really late with it this season.  I usually have it done by the end of October but I was a little busy with my jaw back then and for the rest of the year.

Now, I'm off to check the haystack for zzzzs.  I sure hope it loaded down with the.  I wish you all a peaceful night's sleep and a happy tomorrow.  And may God bless us, every one!

Good Morning Everyfriend!  It's cold here, too, today!  Thank goodness it's not as cold as it is where AMY is but 12º(10 overnight) is pretty cold for this area!

AMY, I'll never be using my new canner because I sent it back!  It was really heavy and I decided that if it got heavier with full jars in it, I wouldn't be able to handle it.  And I'm of the age (and living in a place) where I can't really depend on someone being around to help me lift things.  I just decided that it would not be a good idea to keep it.  So I'm back to praying that the old one cotinues to serve me!

I have to go get dressed and venture out in the cold to take Cooper for a walk.  I think he'll be ready but the time I am....if that ever happens!  Of course it will!

I wish you all a good day...better than yesterday but not as good as tomorrow!

Good morning on a Brrrrrrr morning of 17°.We did get Valentine day snow. Looks like 5 or 6 inches, not the 14 to 18" we used to get every year.

AMY  when I got out of bed -too early with the sound of the plow the first thing I did was grab a pair of geemagotchees and then turn the heat up. On my second cup of coffee and still cold.

SHIRLEY  did you happen to see little old Rhode Island on your map? Maybe you will need a magnifying glass to see it, remember we are the smallest one but full or early American history from fighting the British and then Indian wars.

PATRICIA  better not be PC trouble my grandson set this up the beginning of December and I would get rid of every thing to do with computers.

JANE at times snow comes here from Canada and a freak snow comes up the coast from the south. From the northeast it is a blizzard but most snow comes here from the west so sorry I can not stop it from going in your direction. Since I still love snow I will not tell you or Amy to stop sending it here.

Have a good day and stay safe.

Good morning and happy Valentine's Day! It's minus 32 this morning, but we're told we're on the cusp of an extensive warm-up. At this rate, I'll believe it when I see it. Nothing this winter has been usual but judging by the past three years, that's our new normal.

Amy, we had been primed to expect zero, so now they're saying, starting today. We'll see as humidity is listed at only 3%. I don't envy your rain; we've had enough of that!

Good morning, Jane. I've also been reaccessing what I will and won't use in my kitchen lately.

Good morning again, Lloyd!

Gloria, apparently Amy and I are having a coastal battle of winter chills. This is one contest that I'm hoping to lose!, Sorry, Amy...but I'm ready for some serious heat

Patricia, we are to get serious heat, if I may say so on Wed........along with rain..going to get a high of 42° so they say. I will take that heat and shy away from the freezing rain.

Bubble, thank you for fixing the post.

          ❤️❣️HAPPY VALENTINE'S DAY  ❣️❤️
                            EVERYFRIEND

I hope you all are enjoying a wonderful day.  We are back at our son's home again staying with the grands for the week while dad is out of town.

We watched the Super Bowl yesterday with this family.  The food and interfacing with each other was the best part of the day for us.

My dermatologist appointment went well in spite of having to have a few spots frozen and one biopsy on the top of my arm.  Two spots were a bit questionable rather they needed to be biopsied or frozen.....he did a double freeze on the side of my face and on the side of my nose in three spots and I will go back in 3 months to have them looked at.  They are big, red and frightening looking. Bob lucked out and only had a small spot frozen on his arm. Yea🙏

Time for the children to be picked up.

Enjoy the rest of your day.

Jenny

I did watch the chipmunks, Rick, thanks. We get to play with them at St.Elmo's in Colorado. Got photos of my boys playing with them when they were young teens & again in their 50s. Not the same critters that we have here.

Patricia, I did watch the link you posted but was earlier today & I forgot what it is. My brain is tired tonight & struggling with staying awake.

Jenny, Cas used to get zapped every 6 months but not nearly as bad as his brother. Yours is probably altitude related, worse sun rays up high, doesn't take much to get a burn out there. Cas' brother lives in eastern TN with the water & ground polution. He was saying last time we talked that he "doesn't know anyone around there that hasn't battled cancer". Good you keep watch! So nice that you can stay with the kids, are they doing okay? My boys are going out early/mid June to Cascade campground, next higher up from Mt.Princeton. They made reservations the first of Jan & were disappointed EVERY week end was taken & it was before they were supposed to make reservations. So they only have the 4 days & Andy hopes to get out early & snag one of the non-reservable & hope the host will let him trade his reservable so they can stay the full week. Once moved in they can keep that one for 2 weeks, so Andy's wife & maybe kids may come out later. Pete will have just returned from a week in Hawaii and they have gone to CO the last few years so his "significant other" can run the Pike's Peak race. She keeps in shape & has no problem with the altitude. They have a place reserved from year to year & take along the mountain bikes to ride. She isn't a camper.

Well, Gloria, I do have a gr-daughter & family living in that historic part of the east, & they love it. They have 2 young ones & "go on an adventure" every week end, to see every battle field or park. Both of them are engineers & have been able to work from home part time, & lucky that both pairs of grandparents will come stay with the kids when there is a crisis. With Covid the kids have been home a lot because someone in their class got the virus. As far as they know, their kids have never had it. They tried to find a nanny but seems people don't want to work (sound familiar?).

Amy & Patricia, we have one weather guesser saying we might get 10" of snow Wed.night into Thursday. They changed the guess of 71° on Tuesday to 66° with a low of 53, but the bottom drops out Wed. We'll see how this pans out, snow blower still ready to roll. Until then we are under a red flag warning for wind & fires. At 9:00 pm it's still 50° tonight.

I am ready to get jammies on & go to sleep. Callie is still outside so will get her in & serve them some milk & hit the sack. Going to try to rake up those darn sweet gum balls for the dumpster tomorrow.... still a mess of them all over the yard & driveway. No good easy way to clean them up but rake & scoop up.  >:(   Sweet dreams & God Bless...

Read Everything/  Bless you all!  Take care of YOU and YOURS!

I made a pot roast in my new Dutch Oven today and I finally know why my mother had one.  This is my first real contact with one since I left home but my mother always made good use of her and today, the pots roast told me why!  It was scrumptious!

Now I'm off to the haystack!  I sure hope it's packed with zzzzs!  I fell asleep twice while I was watching my TV shows.  I wish you all a peaceful night's sleep and a happy tomorrow.  And may God bless us, every one!

Good night everyone, sleep tight! It's just after 7 PM here, and it's minus five out there, up from this morning's minus 35. Perhaps we will have those warmer temperatures they promised us a couple of days ago. If it warms and we find some moisture and more snow, we may change our name to Buffalo.

Rick, love the chipmunks! They aren't in Alaska but our squirrels are sized midway between the larger squirrels you folks have in the lower 48 and the chipmunks. Squirrels here are smart dastardly creatures who get into everything.

Shirley that YouTube was about how playful bull terriers are. They tend to get the zoomies a lot.

I have two other funnies. One is from an actual court transcript,  Confusion in the court;

ATTORNEY: Madam, are you currently married?

WITNESS: Yeah. Kind of. No. Not really. Sort of.

The second is a quote from Andy Rooney, "It's paradoxical that the idea of living a long life appeals to everyone, but the idea of getting old doesn't appeal to anyone."

Several years ago there was a PBS (I think) show that showed squirrels being "tested" for their ability to run obstacle courses to get to the food.  The always found a way to get to the food. I believe it was an English group that did it.  I'll have to try to find it somewhere on the net. Very entertaining.
