Goodnight, Irene
The Weavers

Irene goodnight, Irene goodnight
Goodnight Irene, goodnight Irene
I'll see you in my dreams

Last Saturday night I got married
Me and my wife settled down
Now me and my wife are parted
I'm gonna take another stroll downtown

Irene goodnight, Irene goodnight
Goodnight Irene, goodnight Irene
I'll see you in my dreams

Sometimes I live in the country
Sometimes I live in town
Sometimes I take a great notion
To jump into the river and drown

Irene goodnight, Irene goodnight
Goodnight Irene, goodnight Irene
I'll see you in my dreams

Stop ramblin', stop your gamblin'
Stop stayin' out late at night
Go home to your wife and family
Stay there by your farsight right

Irene goodnight, Irene goodnight
Goodnight Irene, goodnight Irene
I'll see you in my dreams
Goodnight Irene, goodnight Irene
I'll see you in my dreams
Goodnight Irene, goodnight Irene
I'll see you in my dreams

LIFE THAT I LOVE
Betty Fry

Because I'll never know again
..........this moment that I live,
I'll kiss it softly as it flies,
..........reflect on what it said.
That today is sweet and holy,
..........take what it can give.
That tomorrow is not yet born,
..........and yesterday is dead.

So come with me Life that I love,
..........and spend these hours aflying.
Hold me close and kiss my lips,
..........my heart has done its crying.
And may I not a moment lose,
..........or waste in useless sighing.
Thus if I fail, then it will be
..........not for want of trying.

Good morning..

Warmer this morning temp is - 20° F

Meeting friends intown this morning then home to work about.

Jane, I agree with you on the weight of the pot. My pressure canner gets slowly slid off the burner and I wait till the pressure valve goes down, empty it then take the pot to the sink.

Bubble ,thank you for the new start page. You brought back memories with the song Good Night Irene. That was sung many times around the campfire!

Gloria, tis another chilly one here, waiting to see what the weather will be like tomorrow as it is to get warmer.

Rick enjoyed the video of the chippy. I was talking to the neighbour yesterday and he saw an ermine in our yard the other day. Last night listened to a fox bark and hoped whatever he was after was faster :)

Better get ready for town..

Enjoy your day and stay  safe..

Good "late" morning, Everyfriend! I've been up since 6:30 and Cooper arrived at 7.  We've both had breakfast, I did some stuff on the computer and we took a nice long walk in the cold.  It was 12º when I got up and it's up to 23º now heading for a high today of 34.  It's supposed to get into the mid 50s later this week.  Do you think Spring is hiding behind the hills?

Today is laundry day.  I've already changed the bed and now I'm doing the dark stuff with another load of light colors to come!

So far, that's today's chores.  I think Frankie is going to spend the night here and if she is, she'll be eating leftover pot roast with me for supper.  I'll have a second opinion on that!

I think the washer just went into it's last spin so I better get ready to dry and fold and wash more!  I wish you all a good day...better than yesterday but not as good as tomorrow!

Good morning, we're warmer at minus three but it's another day I'm spending at home.

On our morning text and call wakeup, I found that one of our friends was hospitalized with Omicron. I think at this point,  it's become all too common.

Rick, I've never seen one about squirrels, although I can believe it. A local Pioneer's home had one that kept getting into their kitchens. One day, a worker found it on a side counter brazenly eating a resident's birthday cake. I don't know what they finally did, but as much as I and others love to watch them, just as many consider them pests. They use telephone wires as highways and sometimes are quite acrobatic.

I would love to see the info if you find it. I've seen ones about crows and ones about ravens here. The one I find amazing is the raven that watched an ice fisherman closely. At the end of the video, the raven had hopped down, grasped the line with his beak, pulled up a nice-sized fish, and flew off with it!

There are also standard signs in parking lots, especially grocery malls about leaving anything available in the backs of trucks. Ravens will find it.

Ah, Bubble, Goodnight, Irene brings back many memories~~~Good ones, happy days. Thanks for the new graphics & text.

Nobody can talk about WIND today unless you live in Kansas! I'm here to tell you this is the kind of wind that gets on your nerves to the stage of screaming. It whistles in the vents, just open a door & nearly blows off the hinges... mutter-mutter.... The weather guessers are all over the charts about how much snow & ice to expect (starting tomorrow night). We need the moisture & they all agree that it will be fast moving & back into the 50s next week. Oops, they changed that to 50s & 60s & mid week back down. I'm in a hurry for nice days so Callie can enjoy the fresh air & can use that big litter box called YARD. We'll (ME) will be complaining about the heat pretty soon. Never satisfied, I guess.

Sweet dreams & God Bless. We are past mid-Feb so really time to think spring. I feel like the last 2 years have been a blurrr.... WAKE UP!  I remember when the year 2022 sounded like science fiction & we're living it now!

Title: Re: Soda Shoppe for February 15, 2022
Post by: Shirley on February 16, 2022, 04:34:44 AM
I woke up a little after 2:00am, felt like getting up so I did. Happens to be 59°& up-up until tonight & rain, ice, mix & snow. "They" can't agree on how much snow but whatever it is, back to above freezing for the week end. All agree with that. Bring it ON, we need one for the moisture & should bring the green back to the grass faster. The wind is howling.

Need to get laundry started, takes forever with this last washer I bought. It likes to think for me & no short cuts. It's water saver feature barely covers the clothes & can't peek (it locks the door) so I use the deep water feature. I'm set in my ways.  ::)

Rick, I remember the hype before the year 2000 but it didn't turn out as bad as 9/11/2001. The other day/year we don't forget is 12/7/1941. Both days as vivid as the day it happened. But it is nice to have someone that remembers with us, isn't it?

No sitting around today, too much of that this week, been downright lazy!

Good morning.

Starting off at +19° this morning . Not sure what today will bring. Have some fabric to go deal with and pass on to others and sewing later on today.

Shirley, does Kansas always have high winds? I remember when we were in Pincher Creek Alberta  and it being very windy. I mentioned this to a store clerk and she  asked did I not notice that the men always walked ///// facing into the wind?

Rick, the year 2000 brought a lot of fear into folks that thought it would be the year the world stop. Computers would not recognize the new year and in the morning everything was fine......worry for for nothing.

Better get a move on here..

Enjoy your day and stay safe.

Good Morning Everyfriend!  Didn't get a chance to say "Goodnight" last night.  Frankie spent the night and when she does that, Cooper usually sleeps with me and he was ready for bed at 10 so I shut down and went with him.

And this morning, I have to get ready to go out.  My high school class is meeting for breakfast and my friend is picking me up a few minutes after 9 so I'm off to the showers!  I wish you all a good day...better than yesterday but not as good as tomorrow.

WOW  I can finally post. I have tried all week and this is the first time I was "allowed" in. Would like to know what happened.

Good morning everyone, 10° now at 8am.  Once again I see no place to post, I do see my name at the top of the page but no post spot. Well I will keep reading and typing and maybe either email this to someone here just to let you know I am still around.
I clicked a previous button and thought I was seeing things, a really old post with Joan's post on April 03, 2016. Don't know about anyone else but I still miss her. I often think of the ones who posted in "BIS'S BUSY NEST" never came here to S&F and then some who posted here and just stopped posting.

Not going to reply to anyone because the place to post has not showed up all week.

Have a good day and keep warm and safe.

Good morning EVERYFRIEND!  It is a pretty morning here in the Mile High City, but snow will begin this afternoon just in time for the rush hour.  The weather guessers have been wavering on how much we are to get, but appears it is going to be quite a bit.

Thank you, BUBBLE for our nice new SS.  I enjoyed your goodies that you shared.  Good Night Irene is a fun memory.  Funny enough I have two Irene's living in my cul-de-sac of 11 homes.  We used to have two Nancy's, but now only one.

JANE, enjoy your time with your high school classmates today🦋. I wish many of us could all get together when you head down South.  Where is Our Pat and her magic bus?  Oh the good old days🥰. That pot roast sure sounded good...glad you enjoyed it.

RICK, I really enjoyed your video with the chipmunks 🐿.  They are so cute to watch; especially up close like they were, to be able to see them chewing.  Thank you for sharing this.  I have been fascinated with ground squirrels my entire life.  When we would go on picnics or camping they were always around and quite fascinating to watch.

GLORIA, when you see there is no posting spot, you have to re-log in.  That is what is happening to me now for quite sometime.  I can't seem to stay logged in, even with helpful suggestions from Rick😩😩🤷♀️  I see a post that Joan made several years ago and always stop and say that I wish she were still here with us.  Every so often I see a post from her son and a picture of Finlay.

PATRICIA, I always enjoy your shared things with us.  Sometimes I just click on them and go back and watch them later.

AMY, Wyoming is the state here in the US that always has terrible winds.  We stopped for gas one time in Cheyenne.  After my husband paid the clerk, the clerk asked him if there was anything else he could do for him.  My husband responded.....why yes, you can slow that wind out there down a bit.  The clerk responded,
"WELCOME TO WYOMING "‼️

SHIRLEY, hummm, seems they let friends choose sites and reserve them before the season to do so opens up, 'eh? You do not plan to make the trip out here this summer? 😩

Morning CALLIE.  Enjoy your coffee and paper.  Have a good day.

Got to get ready to head to our home to feed our kitty.  Today I have a new house cleaner coming.  I hope she is a good one that I feel will do a good job.

Have a wonderful day 🦋 EVERYFRIEND 🦋

Jenny

Good morning from the Interior where the promised warm-up went awry. We're still warmer than a normal February but not to the extent forecast. We've had plenty of snow, more snow is expected today. However, Thursday is to bring wind, snow, and ice so we'll see.

Now that I've done a daily weather report, there is nothing going on or scheduled for today other than what's routine.  So, here is a trio of Hawaiian YouTube Cam videos;

Wiamea Bay,    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wnNrd-VjLsQ

Pipeline Surf Cam,   https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DY5RYp4sxYc

Maui, Hawaii Beach Cam   https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KLBPbqcuQ-Q

Edit: They seem to be having a bit of a tossup weatherwise as well. Here is another Maui Beach Cam,

At least Venice Beach, CA. has some sunshine;   https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vvOjJoSEFM0

I HAVE MY BATHING SUIT PACKED!  WHEN DO WE LEAVE?

Breakfast with my longest friends today was nice!  We talked non-stop and we all moved around so we could talk to everyone.  It's been almost 2 years since we got together last...maybe longer!  And we talked like we'd just been together yesterday!

My friend who picked me up said she had to stop somewhere for milk before she went home did I want to stop or was I ready to go home?  I stopped with her and while she went to the back of the store for her milk, I found my fibre gummies, some tissues and some aaa batteries!  So we made a good day of it.

Cooper and I took another walk before I took my coat off and then we went in the house and cuddled!  It was a good day!  Frankie took leftover pot roast home with her and that's what I had for supper.  There's enough left for my supper tomorrow, too!

I hope you all had a good day.  I wish you all a peaceful night's sleep and a hapy tomorrow.  And may God bless us, every one!

Good rainy morning here..

Looking out at the page wire fence the snow has gone down two levels on it!! They are telling some to be on the look out for flooding in certain areas.

Taking Kyle to a Dr appointment  then scurrying back home before it freezes.

Jane, I am with you and will bring the suntan lotion..

Patricia, thank you for enjoyable sites. Sitting here in 3 feet of snow (well it was before the rain)I thoroughly enjoyed the beaches.

Jenny ,how is your Dad doing?

Phyliss, how are you?

Gloria, my son's pup loves apples.

Lloyd, I envy you the fresh milk and cream. I don't envy the hard work that comes from keeping a cow. Good thing is you can take what you want in milk and then let the calf finish  stripping for you.

Enjoy your day and stay safe.

Good Morning to everyone who is up and attem and to everyone who arrives later...whether it's due to sleeping in or the time difference!

Cooper is here and we've had breakfast and now I have to get dressed and take him for a walk.  It's already up to 47 this morning and heading for the mid to high 50s.  Is it Spriing?  I think we better get walking before it starts raining!

I wish you all a good day...better than yesterday but not as good as tomorrow!

Check the US radar, KS is having lots of snow today! At times it is fine & next look, big fluffy flakes. Wind is blowing hard so one minute it's lazy looking & next a white-out as the wind blows it all directions & picks up the dry stuff from the roof & trees, lifts from the ground.... real blizzard type. I am going out to put some birdseed under the motorhome in hopes the birds will find it, they are starved & keep going back to the dish that hangs on the shepherd's hook.... it has a layer of ice over the seed & one poor little snowbird (Junco) keeps returning to try to bam the ice off. The cats are in deep depression... few nice days & they were enjoying going out! So, that is Kansas today! Enjoy whatever your day offers!

Nothing new here, we're also having snow, wind, and ice!

I'll leave you with this message from author P.G. Wodehouse

Still have time for a short nap before my Skype date. If that lazy CNA did not come today I could have caught up on some sleep lost last night.

Have a great afternoon and night.

I just heard local weather . Wind will be picking up along with rain. Will be 40 to 50 MPH after midnight with stronger gusts.  Trees and branches down and most likely power outages. We are usually lucky in this town with power staying on. Of course Cox might be off and will not be here.

SKHILLED  WELCOME to the Soda shoppe We are a great group and love meeting new members. Hope you find your way back her again and let us know a bit  about you and where you live.

Hey, Gloria, you're getting what we just had, teaser of warmer weather then the bottom drops out but wind howls. Not sure how much snow we got, not as much as feared but was quite a sight this morning. I was out trying to start the snow blower & it wouldn't start for me 'cause I couldn't find the d**n starter. I plug it into power & push a button, it has a pull starter but I don't do pull... Last week I couldn't find the choke & neighbor across the street couldn't either but son came to the rescue. This week the neighbor next door was driving past to go home & came on over. I had told him he was welcome to use the blower but last time we didn't get it started until he already had to shovel his off. So tonight he was pleased to see how easy it is to use, finished up mine & I insisted he just walk it on over to his driveway (he was like a kid with a new toy). All you have to do is walk behind & it drives its self....2 fingers. I do need to get new gas, but he said it's still near the top & even with snow predicted next week, should have enough in it. So that's my big excitement for the day. At least this should give the firemen a break from the grass fires around the state. Been so many fields burned lately.

Welcome, Skhilled. Happy to meet you. Hope you will soon feel comfortable to tell us where (state) you live & a little about your family. Some of us have been around forever and stuck it out with the changes.

Patricia, I copied your message from P.G.Wodehouse..... to pass on. So right for today's world. My 87 year old good friend & I mumble thru these conversations nearly every day!

Time to feed cats & I just remembered I put a load of darks in the dryer hours ago so they must be good & wrinkled by now.  :'(  :crazy2:

Expansive storm seen from space

By John Murphy, AccuWeather staff writer

A record-breaking storm is so large, it can be seen stretching across the United States from space. NOAA's GOES-16 satellite was able to pick up the storm as it moved across the central United States on Thursday. In the images, a large swath of white could be seen stretching from Texas all the way to Maine as the storm made its way across the heartland and Midwest. Everything from tornadoes to winter weather is forecast to occur from this expansive system through Friday. "

Hello Everyfriend and a special welcome to SKHILLED!  We're always happy to "see" new faces in the Soda Shoppe!

GLORIA, I'm glad you got fixed up and back with us!

We've had warm weather and rain most of the day  and it's saying "Wind" overnight.  I guess we'll see!

I've had a long day and I'm heading for the haystack.  Morning comes early on the days that Cooper spends with me.  So I wish you all a peaceful night's sleep and a happy tomorrow.  And may God bless us, every one!

Anybody with a clear sky, have you been out to see the big full moon?  I just got the dumpster to the street, crisp & clear. Dumpster lid froze shut so did some bam-bamming to get it open to put the last of the trash in. Driveway a little slick from the snow/melt freezing over, but I got it out & me back without falling!

Rick, this is the kind of weather my mother used to say, "killed old people".... She had a saying for everything, but guess in her early days it was a belief that old people couldn't tolerate the quick changes of thick & thin blood. Remember when Arthur Godfrey used to talk about taking his sassafras tea in the spring. I remember having one of the trees in our neighborhood & the smell of the tea. One time I bought a little bundle of the roots from a kid selling at the door (living in KS at the time), boiled & boiled & never got the flavor. Have a feeling he didn't know a sassafras tree from any other & I sure didn't recognize the roots. Reading about it recently I'm amazed at all the uses & warnings.

Had to run my last load of clothes thru another rinse (3)... duh, forgot to put in the softner & the first knit shirt I pulled out was like sand paper.... I'm going to be real unhappy if the auto softner didn't dump like my old machine! EDIT: The softner dumped on to 2 of the shirts & left blue streaks that I've been trying to hand rinse out before it becomes a permanent stain! Some times you win & others you don't!!!

Good night to all, God Bless, sweet dreams. Been typing this post off & on for a couple hours so hopefully some of y'all have stopped to say (((hugs)))........

Good morning...

The orchestra is warming up for the dance in a while. We must have 3+ inches of new snow. Yesterday it was rain most of the day and then it turned in snow. High winds sculpted the snow  into drifts in places. Kyle got a great report back from both his tests, that made us both happy!

After my dance with Mr Snow Blower I need to make a pot of soup.

Jane, it was a Whatchamacallit that I was trying to remember last night..

Patricia, that is a perfect saying and I proved that by trying to remember something last night to tell Jane. Taking a copy of that and printing it off...thank you.

Skhilled ,welcome to the group. Hope you enjoy your time with us.

Shirley, I see you have already had THEE dance. I do enjoy snowblowing as long as it isn't that heavy wet snow. That is a toot to move!

Gloria,we also had high winds but thankfully power stayed on. Wind is still up but not as bad as last night .

Better get my dancing duds on..

Enjoy your day and stay safe.

Good morning everyone, still have power so far but thousands have lost it because of the strong winds and pouring rain. Worse along the shore than here. Glad it is not snow we would be snowed in by now with high drifts.  I am so bad, yesterday I sent the lazy cna home. She came in and sat down and took her phone out and started with it. After 10 minutes I told her she is not supposed to be doing nothing except playing or talking on her phone. I told her there was things to do like a back massage every day she is here. She said  she  my back and that was only once. Told her I need it every day. She does less than a home maker and gets paid more.

SHIRLEY  felt great getting right in here this morning. I was missing my cyber family and the SS where we meet every day.

PATRICIA  I am glad I do not live by the shore, there must be high winds and rain and those who keep rebuilding their homes there must be getting through all the insurance companies that will tell them NO MORE

JANE  I fell asleep last night listening to the wind whistling in this corner of the building where I live.

SHIRLEY  when we had out house we ha several sassafras trees and we would break a branch and walk around biting on the end getting all the juice  out of it. Always reminded me of home made root beer. Wonder how many remember Arthur Godfrey. How about when he gave items to the audience he would say "for free take, for buy waste time"

AMY  wonderful news for Kyle and you. Just had a strong gust of wind and the rain hitting the window near me sounded like hail and it was one sheet of rain and that was all I could see. Glad I don't have to go outside.

No Lloyd or Rick this morning? Too early I guess.
Have a good day, don't let the wind blow you away or the rain rush you along.
Have a good day and stay safe.

Good Morning Everyfriend.  Cooper arrived on time...we've had breakfast and a nice walk.  He was a VERY GOOD BOY on the walk and did everything he was supposed to do.  Now he's resting up!  I'm having my second cup of coffee and a visit with my friends.

I'm going to get started on Frankie's soup recipe this morning.  I'll cook the meat and chop the veggies.  If she decides not to stay her for supper that stuff can go in the freezer.

I also have to work on my shopping lists in case Cathy decides to go shopping on Saturday.  And since all the snow has melted in the yard, I'll be going out there and checking to see what kind of gifts the dogs left me that sunk through the snow.  Not my fav job but necessary!

It's 36º on it's way to a high of 56 today!  I'm not going outside until it gets a bit warmer.  That wind is penetrating!  Happy Dancing, AMY!  YAY for Kyle's good report!

I wish you all a good day...better than yesterday but not as good as tomorrow.

Rained pretty much all night but clear and sunny now. BUT --- The winds they are a blowing. Some wires down around town but we still have power. I think most of the wire failures are Phone or Cable.

Arthur Godfrey - Yes, I remember him, but never cared for his show. I remember him strumming his Banjo (It was a banjo, wasn't it?). Remember "My dog has fleas?

We had sassafras trees around. I recall that tree had three different leaves. Does the flavor come from the roots, or from the bark? We would pluck a leaf and suck/chew on the stem.

Gloria, --- I pop in randomly. I'm not good for morning and evening check ins. I still have trouble with the old "Children should be seen and not heard".

Good morning, I'm up, showered, and caffeinated. Farrah's fed,  cuddled, and now she's sleeping it off.

Today's low is plus 14, a bit of a change from yesterday's minus 28. We've also got the howling winds coming out of the mountain passes. And a good amount of that fluffy white stuff. This time, the graders and dump trucks with those beeping back alarms started last night, so everything's cleared.

Gloria, I'm not sure which is worse, the wind coming off the waves or through the mountain passes. And no, I don't want to know.

Jane, I'd love my own little Cooper, but we're limited to one pet here. They do have a fenced-in dog yard, part of which runs beneath my windows, with supplied baggies and strict rules. A nice two-squared block area runs along the river that many people use for their dog walks.

Amy, I'm so happy for you and Kyle! How is his wood worked village, any new pieces?

Good morning, Rick.

I imagine that Lloyd and others are dealing with the storm and perhaps outages.

Snow blowing is now complete...well as much as I can do for now. With the high winds it piled the snow in places packing it down . In places I had to leave as the water from all the rain yesterday was coming through and plugging the chute. I broke a shear pin and that is no fun replacing but did get it done.

Shirley, your wind is here if you wish it back..please!! ;)
Thank you,Jane,Gloria, Shirley and Patricia for the hurrah and yah for Mr K...

Patricia,he hasn;t done any latey ,will try and get a photo of his last one and post it. He is running out of room to put them! And no they are not coming into the house!

Wood is in and piled up, now to get busy with making soup..

Google and all Google-owned software are not so affectionately known as spyware by the industry. Google records every keystroke forever and, while blocking other spyware, sells what it gathers to anyone for a price. You can easily "Google" this for a complete listing.

Hello Everyfriend!  Frankie came up with a soup recipe that she wanted us to try.  I checked and I had everything to make it so I took the meat out of the freezer and lined up everything.  I made it today and we both loved it.  It's called "Stuffed Bell Pepper Soup".  I posted the recipe over in the recipe section.  It was very easy to do and it is absolutely delicious!

I'm on my way to the haystack because tomorrow will be a busy day.  Cathy is picking me up to go to Davy's in the morning and then Frankie is picking me up in the afternoon to go to WM.  I'm gonna be plumb wore out tomorrow night!

I wish you all a peaceful night's sleep and a happy tomorrow.  And may God bless us, every one!

Just a glimpse of my world. These ice carving yearly festivals were started in the sixties by visiting Chinese ice carving artists from Harbin. The rule is one visiting artist pairs with one local carving artist, and they form a team with others. The ice taken from an onsite pool is always crystal clear.

Good morning everyone, My vision is blurry this morning, 3 months till my next appointment. At times I wonder if is good to have medical insurance. Has to be a year and 1 day before they cover an appointment. Best med. insurance I ever had was when I worked at Tupperware. We worked and I
mean really worked our shift of 71/2 hours. They worked 3 shifts and part of our 8 hours was lunch
break, they payed us 8 hours.
27° now and son will be here in 15 minutes. I could set my clocks by the time he calls from downstairs and I let him in. 10:30 every
Saturday. By 1pm yesterday the sun came out and the rest of the day was bright but the trees were still moving full force.

RICK  right you are, the sassafras has 3 different shaped leaves. As far as I know the only one that has. like you we broke a twig  and started tith the leaf and then chewed on the twig. With me it was not to wander anyone's house, stay near the door. Took me years to get away from that. One thing I remembered was Arthur Godfrey firing the male singer he had on his show when he was live on TV. Cannot remember the singers name or what he did. That young singer never appeared on TV again. I used to post a couple of times a day but now lucky to post once.

JANE  if the beach us at the ocean I love it and swimming in it. If a pond or lake or pool not much. Since I do not get around in S&F like I used to and you don't post links I will never see your stuffed bell pepper soup. Stuffed peppers in one meal I can still cook and never had a recipe for. I watched my Mom make them for years so make them like she did. rice, hamburg , tomato sauce and seasonings. Onions and garlick to taste. Nothing fancy.

PATRICIA  houses built at the shore  with a beautiful beach do not realise that they are losing some of the sand making the beach every day with the high tide. My inlaws had a summer home with a 2 lane road between a small frontage before the road. Ir was about 2 miles from Old Orchard Beach in Maine amusent park. There was a pier and at the end there was a Dance Hall. In the end of the 1940's they had big name bands playing every Saturday night. My husband and I went there one night when Xavier Cougot and band playing we sure got enough Latin dancing. He got tired so we went to the end of the pier where they played new movies I used to love dancing  with my girlfrend every Saturday night, several different places, Only beverage sold soda or coffee.
On Wednesday we went roller skating. Back then there were a lot of rinks to go to, now maybe 2 in the whole state. We were so innosent  then than the kids these days. The beach is now only those huge rocks they use to hold the soil inplace. Islands keep getting smaller because of erosin.

I don't worry about security on my PC. My grandson/pc guru works from home and the company he works for insists the computers are all up to date with everything. The company is world wide and would be out of business if it got hacked or anything. He in turn keeps family PC's  in  safe working order.

LLOYD  UNTIL I moved here I had birdfeeders up never where they left a mess and I still miss seeing them after almost 8 years.

SHIRLEY  Never saw a cat looking so comfy.

Started this about 9:30 this morning, son came, 10:30 went to market, put everything away. Now he has gone home and it was a pleasant visit. He even brought Subway sandwiches for both of us, Unusual but his wife and 2 daughters planed and outing this afternoon and he did not want to eat alone. For me it was wonderful having company at mealtime

Have a good day/night and stay safe and healthy.

Julius La Rosa was the singer Godfrey fired. He went on later to find fame and fans and died recently at 86.

Arthur Godfrey, one of the best known performers in the history of broadcasting, had a reputation for saying the controversial.

He kept listeners and viewers on edge because they never knew what comment he would make that would make headlines in the next edition of the hometown newspaper.

One of his most controversial actions was the firing of a young singer on his weekly television program, Julius La Rosa, for, as Godfrey put it, not being loyal to the TV family.

The firing created a sensation because Godfrey dismissed La Rosa on a live show on Oct. 21, 1953 because he and Orchestra Leader Archie Bleyer, also discharged from the show, had taken on outside agents. The young singer was visibly startled by the unexpected action.

Godfrey reached his peak on radio in the late 1940s, punctuating his comments with renditions of popular songs in his resonant baritone voice. At that time he was probably the best-known radio personality in the United States.

Gloria, we have a huge problem with avalanches and erosion in this state. There are two or three major fault lines running under either the mountains or the volcanoes. We have oceans on three sides with the other bordered by Canada.

Canadians are the best neighbors, the land, vegetation is basically the same as western Canada and more familiar than the lower 48. I'm seeing lots of videos lately of houses in the states simply crumbling away or into the sea. People always expect a different outcome.

Made a trip to Davy's today but Frankie and I cancelled out trip to WM this afternoon.  We had blowing snow and haze or fog or whatever.  Anyway, you couldn't see 6 feet ahead of you so she stayed home and did her cleaning and we're going tomorrow when she finishes work at noon or so.

This is her last day on that job at the store.  She applied for a job at the local hospital and she got it.  She starts on Monday.  It's a lot lest driving and better hours and a health plan and some security.  We're all happy for her!

I'm off to the haystack now.  My eyes are abouut to enter slam shut mode and I'd really like to be buried in the haystack when they do that!  I wish you all a peaceful night's sleep and a happy tomorrow.  And may God bless us, every one!

Snow was much easier to snow blow yesterday than the day before. Didn't break any shear pins and snow didn't clog the chute....can't get any nice than that! Have to admit I am glad there is no snow to deal with this morning ,think the muscles in my eyelashes are also sore!!

Rick, thank you for the site.....way better watching wild life than tv!!

Good morning everyone, another night of short times of sleep and awake more. Think I will get some Melatonin and see if that helps. It is still hard going to your doctor here, only talk to you on the phone. Have not seen mine in 2 years. I am not sick but this darn arthritis pain in my back acts up at night and makes it hard to sleep.
I know I have become a big old grouch. I think my sense of humor has deserted me. Can longer turn pain into jokes  and laugh at them.

Think I will go lower the shade in the bedroom to hopefully get a couple hours sleep

Good Morning Everyfriend!  It's 27º and sunny here right now.  I almost froze my b...s off when I took Cooper for his walk.  Now I have to go get dressed so I can meet Frankie at the corner when she comes from work.  That way, Cooper won't hear her and wonder why she didn't take him with her.

I've been to church on line and made arrangements to go in person next Sunday.  My daughter will drop me off before the service and friends will bring me home after.I couldn't get my picture right side up this morning and I couldn't help thinking that everyone in church had glue on their shoes so they could stand sideways.  It was better than getting mad at the computer for not doing what I said it should do!  I'm trying to decide if I should mention that to the people that were there.  They'd probably get a chuckle out of it!

I better get a move on.  Frankie quits at noon.  And that's the end of that job for her.  The new one starts at 8 a.m. tomorrow.

I wish you all a good day...better than yesterday but not as good as tomorrow!

Great link, Rick.... can spend a lot of time checking all the sites out (beats cleaning house).

Happy morning, Super Sunday (how's that, Callie?) Already 47° at 10:30 am & into the 60s before this day is over. Looking for near 70° tomorrow & then the bottom drops out again! The wind is bending trees all directions, didn't take you long to tire of our wind, Amy!

Today I plan to air up my Sno-Nut because snow is predicted for Wed or Thurs and I want to be ready. The kids down the street (dads & moms as well as youngsters) wore off my snow the first time & was just too bitter this week & sun meltled it off the 2nd day. I may get out while still snowing this time and get at least ONE run down the hill. Soon as I air up the Sno-Nut the weather guessers will take it off the menu, wait & see.  :-\

Rhoadie (help me with spelling her name, Gloria) was waiting at the gate when I let Callie out just now. Came back in for a slice on oatnut bread & remembered the raisins & crust of some pie she might like. YUM, she said as she gobbled the pie crust & couple raisins. Callie is staring at Rhoadie with the strangest look on her face. She is perfectly still except her whole body is swaying with the wind, not even blinking.

Rick, I see the pair of robins all the time but they are "feeling frisky" (as Richie Cunningham's mother used to say)... chasing & not looking for food. Not sure what ate the raisins I put out front, but last week I saw a raccoon big enough to be sitting on the brick pillar a foot & half away from the shepherd's hook that holds the bird seed feeder, and was eating out of the feeder like a table! Got another feeder due from Amazon today.

I need more sleep, didn't get to bed until nearly midnight & had alarm set for 5:00am, and Fitbit says I had 6 minutes of deep sleep, just not enough for this old girl.

Good Interior morning everyone! We're back in the middle of a cold spell between two warmer ones. We should leave the cold behind the closer we come to March. Of course, if March stays true to type, that means a snow dump as humidity, and warming temperatures settle.

Thank you for the link, Rick. I love watching the smaller birds.

Amy, I also liked watching your morning story. You do awaken in a great mood, it seems. That's much better than my slow fade to consciousness.

Shirley, Farrah looks that way when she's birdwatching.

Good morning Gloria, I hope you're having a nice nap.

Hello you ALL!

Tomereader, I didn't drain anything!  And when I make it again, I'm going to add a little more broth to it.  It was good but not especially "soupy".

Now I'm heading for the haystack.  If Frankie doesn't text me to say she up and about by 6:30 tomorrow morning, I have to call her.  She doesn't want to be late for her orientation at the new job!  And she has to look her best because they'll be taking a picture of her to go on her name tag.

SHIRLEY, if your chicken friend is a Rhode Island Red you'd nickname her/him "Rhody or Rhodie".  If you are calling him/her that name because she/he is a wanderer, you'd nickname her/him "Roadie" after the road he/she travels! I look forward to whatever you call her/him!

Now I'm off to the haystack!  Got lots of "stuff" to do tomorrow.  Love the clips!  Thanks for sharing!  I wish you all a peaceful night's sleep and a happy tomorrow.  And may God bless us, every one.

Good morning..

Temp has climbed to 22° F and that lazy bitter wind has gone.....lazy because it would rather go through you than around you. The wind had put drifts into the path ways I did so the music began and I opened them up again plus cleaned up the driveway.NO dancing today!!

Today is a  holiday here , Family Day while you have President's Day.  Not a lot going on here, I do have some sewing I would like to do.

Rick, love the lullaby always have but I didn't need it last night. Seems the days of snow blowing caught up with me and I hit the bed early. Thank you enjoyed listening to it this morning.

Patricia, I love water and sitting watching and listening to the waves come in would be so calming.

Good Morning Everyfriend!  After listening to the lullaby, I'm ready to go back to bed!  But that's not going to happen because Cooper is here and as soon as I can get my clothes on, we'll be taking a nice long walk.  He's ready!  I'm not!

I'm going running again today.  Cathy has the day off and she has a Dr. appt. at 9 and then is going to hit WM.  I'm tagging along to pick up a couple things I missed yesterday with Frankie!

Then I have laundry to do.  I might throw in the towels before I get dreassed.  We'll see what works.  I wish you all a good day...better than yesterday but not as good as tomorrow!

P.S.  It's 27º here right now and heading for a high of 55 with sunshine.  I can handle that!

Haha, Rick, that sounds good this morning. Cats fed but not me so thinking about turning back in.  NO! Shirley, last warm day for a while so gotta do some outside chores!  I tried to air up the Sno-Nut yesterday but my son did something different to air compresser & I don't know how to make it go. We have a BIG air compresser but this is a little round one Cas bought so I could air my own bike tires. I get my head set to do things one way & brains in head not very flexible.

Can't believe we are to get to 72° today & below freezing the rest of the week, how crazy is that???

Rhodie is a hen, Rhoad Island Red, Jane, but I've spelled her name both ways since she hits the road to visit me.  ;D  Wish you could see how tickled she is to have me come out with a slice of bread! Good luck to Frankie with the new job. I snatched a cute photo of someone that knits hats for chickens, can't post it (don't have permission) but chicken looks like Rhodie.

Better get moving or I'll go back to bed & don't want to waste this beautiful day. OH, I forgot, this is a holiday, right? No mail, etc?

Oops, you slipped in, Amy, and confirmed we have a holiday. I liked the old days better.  Getting light out, have the sliding door open but storm one shut, can hear noises of a train far off & cars humming the by-pass around the city. Red splashes across the sky, I think that is a weather warning, right? Trees starting to wag. Yuck. Cats did not eat but half their salmon this morning, opened a fresh can yesterday (they won't eat if more than 3 days old... in the frig, of course).  We have snow due in Wed night to Thurs.

If I sit here long enough the eagle will come flying up river. Had flock after flock of comorants flying over yesterday I wonder if they are ready to go back to their summer homes. I'm sure the owners of the shopping center where they sleep will be happy to have them leave. That is such a pretty lake & guess they do make a mess. They have only started wintering here the last 10 years, before that I had never seen one.

Happy shopping, Jane. I've tried 3 stores & still can't find my soda crackers! I do not think they come from China so guess the factories or truckers get the blame.

Have a GREAT DAY, every friend!

Merry Monday,

Rick, thank you for the link to the Cornell bird feeders.  I've seen all of the ones I saw there at my feeders.  Wish I could have a tray feeder but the squirrels would empty it faster than I could keep up with.  :tickedoff:

Donklan, those critters are way too clever!!!!  I have a metal pole with four hooks for hanging feeders but only have feeders on three of them because squirrels figured out how to use a branch of the holly tree to "trampoline" onto the feeder on that side. Unfortunately I can't move the feeders farther away.  However, I do "grease" the pole with Vaseline to keep the squirrels from climbing it.  So funny to see them leap part way up and then slide down with tail spinning like a helicopter blade.  ;D  Of course, I get plenty of Glares at the window when that happens.

Saw the first daffodil bloom this morning.  More may pop out today and I'll probably bring them inside because - although it's supposed to be 75º today - it's to be 32º tomorrow and rain/ice/snow the rest of the week.  <Sigh>

Hope it's an Enjoyable Day for Everyfriend.

I got through most of my list at the store today.  Cathy just waits patiently for me to finish.  I think Frankie is always in a hurry.  Or maybe she's just too young to be shopping with an old lady!

I have a bird feeder out too.  I got it for Christmas and so far no birds (or squirrels) have made use of it.  I don't know why! It's in a safe place and I've seen birds in the yard but they don't use the feeder.

I didn't get any laundry done today but I did make some brownies!  They were umm-ummmm goooood! And I put the leftovers in the Hidey Hole!

Frankie had a good first day at the hospital.  She said everyone was really nice and they all helped her find her way through orientation and they all said to ask if she needed answers anytime.  The only thing she didn't like was lunch and they have to eat there.  She said the best thing about lunch was the company!

I'm off to the haystack.  I won't have to be getting up so early to meet Cooper.  She doesn't have to be there until 8 and it's right around the corner from here.  I wish you all a peaceful night's sleep and a happy tomorrow.  And may God bless us, every one!

Good morning..

Not going to be a great day here.....calling for freezing rain. We were to head to the city but now will phone and cancel the appointments.

Jane, great that Frankie enjoyed her first day at work...it will get easier as she goes along. Thank you for the brownie, you're right they are deeelicious!

Shirley what about lining your trug with a double layer of heavy plastics? Just make sure to staple it in at the top and make slits on the bottom to allow the water out.

Enjoy your day and stay safe..

It is very foggy here this morning just got to 33. Calling for rain tonight. Snow is going pretty fast.

I will enjoy a fresh brownie with a glass of cold milk.

Good Morning Everyfriend!  Well, if this morning is any indication, I've become a breakfast stop on the way to work for Frankie.  She said she was stopping at McDonalds to get breakfast on the way here and she'd be early so she had time to eat it.  We'll have to work on that!

Cooper has had his walk and he's all cuddled up on the pillow on the couch.  I have a load of towels in the dryer and when they're finished, they'll get put away.  I have the stuff out to make meat loaf and scalloped potatoes and baked beans for supper and depending when Frankie's second orientation day is over, we might have company for supper.

Otherwise, I'm just going to play "catch-up" today..... some phone calls, some bill paying, a little TV, lunch and whatever else crops up.  It's supposed to start raining any time now and last for the rest of the afternoon and early evening.  Sounds like Spring weather to me....or am I a bit over anxious?

I wish you all a good day...better than yesterday but not as good as tomorrow!

I just fixed the coffed pot so all I have to do is punch the button in the morning.  Frankie doesn't start until (I think she said) 11 tomorrow morning.  She said shell be early because she's bringing her lunch here and eating it before she goes to work.  That means she won't be home until a little after 8 tomorrow night.  I didn't make the meat loaf today but it's ready to bake tomorrow so she can have them for supper when she's finished.  She thought that was a good idea and she's planning to spend the night here.

I'm heading for the haystack pretty soon.  We did get the promised rain today but Cooper and I beat it with our walk and he didn't even ask to go out in the yard after it started!

I did get a bit of laundry washed, dried, folded and put away today and a couple other odd jobs done.  Tomorrow is another day!  I wish you all a peaceful night's sleep and a happy tomorrow.  And may God bless us, every one!

It has been "one of those days".... busy-busy & nothing to show at the end of it. I did get one load of laundry done & put away, did get to the store for the things I didn't think of yesterday.  So bitter cold it was hard to breathe when I went to the store, at least the mask kept me from breathing that cold air straight into my lungs! Pollyanna always can find something good, right?

Jane, I'm really angry at the price of gas & hope it doesn't change your travel plans. I will think twice about driving to MO for overnight, that's for sure!  When I go I will stay  longer. The car does good on gas but can't sleep in it & no bathroom, kitchen or anything, and I hate to stay in motels, always have, even the best hotels. But I will drive to OK to have lunch with y'all & can be back home that night, in my own bed!  I wouldn't miss that for anything! Main problem is driving thru OK City, I recall it is a nightmare. BUT maybe Onstar in the car can help, if someone helps me program it in!  :uglystupid2: If you are making the plans, Callie, keep in mind I can get lost in a parking lot.

Weather guessers down graded our chance for snow tomorrow night but that's okay, I didn't get the Sno-Nut aired up anyway!  We had a dusting of snow last night or early this morning but so cold & dry it just disappeared. Our "feels like" temps are to be 10-14 below zero the next few nights & earlier today one weather person said we won't get above freezing until Sat., so that will crank up the heat bills. Quite a hike this month already. Sad to see prices go up so much so fast!

Gloria, I feel for you with that setting or whatever the problem the computer is causing. I am so short on patience these days, doesn't take much to put me in a tailspin. Andy changed some little something on that air compressor & I don't know what is different but I can't get it to work. Right now they are all so busy I hate to call for help unless it's a REAL emergency.

Wishing all good dreams and a happier tomorrow.  Got Bless...

Good windy morning here.

Wind is from the north and after that all day rain we have a skating rink everywhere.

House hold chores to do and will put a strawberry pie together.

Shirley, gas has also gone up here and is still going up. Food prices are in a race with it to see which one can empty your pocket book faster. If you have AAA it will map out a Tripic for you ,our CAA does that  and it will show areas under road construction to avoid.

Better get ready to me the day.

Enjoy your day and stay safe.

I'm up and ?attem?  So far, I've gotten dressed, made my bed, punched the button on the coffee pot and I'm having my first cuppa for the day!

SHIRLEY, it doesn't sound like you were your usual capable self last night.  I hope today is a better day for you.

My plan for today is "no plan at all".  I do have the meat loaf ready to bake and I'm going to make scalloped potatoes and baked beans to go with it.  And that's the end of the plans.  I'm sure something will come up.  If the weather stays nice, I might start some clean up outside.  I have to rig up a ride to the recycling center on Saturday.  I'm getting overloaded again.

I wish you all a good day...better than yesterday but not as good as tomorrow!

Haha, Jane, WAY TO GO!

Amy, thank you, I totally forgot that my daughter gave me AAA for Christmas because I got tired of the other never taking a call. One time on the phone the lady at the switchboard (don't think that's what they call it anymore)... tried to transfer me to the help & we sat on the phone for nearly an hour without them picking up. She was mortified. BUT, I do have AAA now & didn't think about their help. For some reason the map part on the car has turned upside down, no longer showing the true north, etc. & even when I know where I'm going, it does a thing to my brain. But I will go prepared. My Garmin will talk to me & tell me what lane to be in IF I get the address programmed in right. Always that IF.

Lloyd, the radio weather man said we were 5° when I woke up & half an hour later was 4°, but both were "feels like" 15° BELOW zero... so mighty cold. Gotta cover mouth & nose when out and then the glasses steam up so bad I had to take them off & put on the dash to clear up before being able to drive yesterday.

Callie, I'm still thinking about you seeing a daffodil .... so far mine have not stuck their nose out of the ground, only the surprise lilies. I'm jealous. :'(

Patricia, do you have the wind with your cold temps?  I know it's supposed to be dryer air so doesn't feel as cold, but the temps you've had this year sounds super cold to me!

Don, forgot to tell you how much I enjoyed the squirrel battle... I had seen that once before, not sure where or when, but had even more fun this time. One of my neighbors had a running battle with squirrels & he finally gave up & got them the little holder for an ear of corn with a seat on each side. He bought everything he could find to outsmart them but I do believe he was catering to them before he died.

My battle is with the little cow birds, don't know their real name. Such lazy birds to push eggs out of another's nest & then not come back to check on their kids until they are ready to fly. We had house finches that are so friendly but watched so many times as the cowbirds would push an egg out of the finch nest to lay their... for some reason those stinking little birds can count so have to get rid of one before laying theirs, to make sure the mama finch will set the eggs.

Better get a move on, going to make a cheese cake today that my sister made in the early '50s and my son-in-law went wild over it when I made it one time, said his mother made the same one. They will be here this week end & I want to surprise him, he is so good to my daughter, gotta love that.

Good Morning,

Shirley, I'm glad I brought that one daffodil in and put it in a bud vase because the entire yard/patio/flower beds are covered with sleet this morning!  Not snow - but sleet!!!  Our temperatures are similar to yours. Brrr!

I've seen cowbirds around here, too.  I know the other birds have nests in the trees behind the fence and they're probably hatching one egg that isn't their own.  >:(

Re plans for meeting Janie this summer: you won't have to drive through OKC and I know some short cuts that GPS probably wouldn't suggest. I think you can do it.  ;)

The past two days have been very productive but I'm feeling like a slug this morning.  Don't mind the cold temperatures but really dislike gloomy weather.

Hope it's an Enjoyable Day for Everyfriend.

Good morning; I was in the midst of a post here when my computer cut to a blue screen and announced it was restarting. I told Shirley that we hadn't changed weather conditions since Christmas, they weren't cold in a drier climate, and I was hearing our new routine of early morning snow equipment's motor's revving and backup alarms.

There's nothing new here; I've showered, had my morning call and text check-in fed myself and Farrah, and am finishing my first of many cups of coffee.

Good morning everyone, another gloomy start Cannot believe what the temperature says on the TV and on my PC 55. Darn looks like I lost the degree sign again. Crazy weather for the next few days f the guesser is right. Rain and snow and temperature falling through the 30's. Just heard we will get 12 inches of snow.

JANE  maybe the birds in your area want the best feed seeds there is around? I used to buy anything that was on sale in the market and all the birds ate it. One thing I laughed at was the woodpeckers at the suet block hanging from the eves at the kitchen window hanging upside down to get what they wanted on the bottom of the suet block.

PATRICIA  there was 2 weddings yesterday here in R.I. One in Roger Williams park in Providence and one here in this town.

CALLIE  :2funny: ;D

LLOYD  cannot trust what those weather guessers say.

SHIRLEY  when anything does not work the way it should on a PC I wonder what I did now. Son #1 always tells me I cannot get into something I should not touch. One thing I never did and will not do is get into settings my grandson fixed. I am not tech savvy and know it. Odd my son always seems to get at the computer when he is her and ends up banging the keyboard or slamming the mouse down then he blames me for messing things up. He calls his son and tells him I need help. That seems to me to be too much like his father.

AMY  I know your son drives those big trucks and wondered if he was in the mess at the border.  I remember one winter when we had a skating rink in the back yard. Good thing we had a big yard. All the kids in the neighborhood were there. None of the ponds around were  safe but the back yard had a couple of inches of water that froze solid. Odd the way things turn out, a few nights before that my 3 and I made molasses taffy, Had fun pulling that long rope out and twisting  it. Already had wax paper squares to wrap around the pieces  when I cut  them. It was fun for the 3 of them and if the oldest one next door came over it was a riot. He wanted to help and then wondered why I told him to wash his hands and put soft butter on them. My 3 told him they did not want to eat the dirt off his hands and he would not sticky hands. I caught him putting  one in his mouth and I told my 3 oh oh took what he just did. we pointed at him and at him saying - oh oh he is on that list for sure, we all caught him. He could not open his mouth to say anything, his teeth were stuck in the piece of toffee in his mouth. Another boy on the other side of us came over then and looked at him and said "I know what you did. wait till ice skating time and find out what happens to you. They all got together at our house and got a bag with a handful of taffy to take but he only got a few pieces. One of others finally told him why, when I tell them something it was because I meant it  the others for disobeying the rules and sneaking a piece  before the work was all done  He learned fast after that. If I let them all do as they wanted in the house it would have been a disaster. At times I WISHED THEY FIND A OTHER PLACE TO HANG OUT BUT IN THE LONG RUN I KNEW WHERE THEY WERE.
Sorry for all the  caps, you I am not a touch typist, have to see what key I hit and still hit wrong ones.

CNA Fran just left, she is t he best worker, even better then Yvette. She rather work than sit and talk or drive to the store every day.

Started this about 8:30 this morning and now it is 1:45. Hope I do better tomorrow.
Have a good rest of the day. Will go see what I have to make my supper. I know I have some of my baked beans and some of Mike's 15 bean soup and a coupe ot small pizzas and some other meals. Will have to see what tempts me later. Cut the tip of my right thumb and trying not to use it.
Have a good rest of the day, Stay healthy and safe. GOD bless.

Welllll, doggies (who said that?) Have a problem with the cheese cake. Anyone ever make the one that uses Milnot instead of canned milk? Has a box of lemon jello in & Philly cr cheese, plus-plus..... After going to 4 or 5 stores I called one north of the city & asked if they had it & a kind checker took pity & checked. Ever since Covid the stores won't check to see if they have something in stock, expect you to use their "shoppers" if you don't want to come look. Anyway, problem is I refrigerated overnight like the recipe said but my Milnot did not reach peaks... and I nearly wore out my 2 mixers! Said Original but did not find an expiration date. I gave up since had the crust make, jello & all other ingredients ready so poured it together & dumped into the cake pan with graham cracker crust. I can always dump it without anybody seeing. We'll see what tomorrow brings. I've gotta trim my hair & shower, #2 son will be here before long & I have things to do. Anyone want to take bets whether this'll be eaten or thrown away?

Gloria, I was the mother that had all the kids in our yard, too. One mother that never kept track of her kids call me "sargent of the guard of the neighborhood".... her kids were at my house all the time.

Today was a good day!  The temp got into the mid 50s and the sun was shining.  When Cooper and I went for our first walk, it felt like Spring out there.

I got a lot done today but most of it doesn't show and the stuff that does, shouldn't.  I tied up all the stuff to go to recycling on Saturday and it's lined up in the hall waiting for my son to come pick it up.  I don't want to put it back where it came from because I'll just have to get it out again!

Frankie picked up Cooper on her way home from work a little after 8.  I had a meat loaf, scalloped potato and baked bean dinner packed up for her to take with her just in case she didn't feel like sticking around to eat it.  She took it and a little later, she texted me to say it was great and it really hit the spot so I know she had at least one good meal today!   So did I! and it WAS good!

Now I'm going to post this and see if my sizing, bold and color worked.  I wish you all a peaceful night's sleep and a happy tomorrow.  And may God bless us, every one!

Baking today, may meet up with friends if they come into town later on.

Jane we had scalloped potatoes as well plus pork chops and corn. Left over scalloped potatoes for tonight then into a pot of potato soup it goes.

Gloria, no son wasn't involved in that mess but he did along with many others get stuck waiting to cross over. What were you trying to cut when you nipped your thumb?Fran also sounds like a keeper  for you.

Phyllis, all is well there?

Patricia, that was  one of the shows that I enjoyed. Granny and her possum pie!

Enjoy your day and stay safe..

Good Morning Everyfriend!  I can enjoy "The Beverly Hillbillies" all over again.  They're showing it on one of the DISH channels again right now.

My only plan for today is to have a shower and get dressed before Cooper and Frankie arrive at about 11.  She's still doing orientation this week and (I think) will be assigned a regular job next week! So her hours are all mixed up and she's doing a lot of moving around in the hospital so she'll know her way when she has to.  It's making her very tired.  And she's heads for home as fast as she can when the day is over!

The temp is back down in the mid 20s today and it's saying we'll be getting snow beginning around 10 tonight and lasting into tomorrow!  What's with this crazy weather!  One day it feels like Spring and the next day it's the dead of winter!

I wish you all a good day...better than yesterday but not as good as tomorrow!

Thank you, Amy, for thinking of me and asking if all was OK.  You are the only one that seems to remember me.  Things are going all right here.  Good days and not so good days but pretty quiet and not much of interest to write about.  I hope you and Kyle are doing well.  Glad your David wasn't caught up in the truckers' protest except to be delayed.  I watch the Soo Locks at Sioux Saint Marie on You Tube and see the trucks crossing that VERY high International Bridge and wonder if your son ever crosses there.  It would scare me to death.  I'm not fond of high bridges.   :o

Shirley, I was interested in your Cheesecake problems.  I can't help you because I never heard of using Jello or canned milk, (and I don't even know what Milnot is,) in Cheesecake before.  Hope you got your problem straightened out.   I used to bake New York style cheesecake but I don't bake much of anything now so I buy good cheesecake from the deli.....much easier than baking my own.

Good morning, seven degrees this morning with no snow or wind expected. It's 5:30 and Farrah's fed, I'm showered and about to enjoy my first morning cup of coffee.  I too remember the Clampetts. I was never into TV that much because I wasn't around it growing up and everyone but one in my family were readers. Even when I had a TV, I usually had a book or a magazine I also read.

Good morning Phyllis, when you don't say hello, we miss you, but many are not daily posters these days.

We have a very fine snow this morning, if it was rain it would me "mist".... ground covered but not deep enough to ride the Sno-Nut down the hill. I slept in this morning so the cats had time to clean up before I came in & this dark floor is covered with clumps of fur swirling around.

Phyllis, I did miss you but so many not posting these days it is sad to comment. Even if we don't do much it's nice to see someone come & say, "HELLO".... okay?  Milnot is pretty much same as canned condensed milk (Pet/Carnation) but not really milk so the milk industry had tried to get it banned over the years. Even tho I do have a problem with milk/dairy, the reason I use it is because the recipe calls for it! I was not a born cook so only try a recipe after I've tasted & liked. I'll let you know after while when I go to the basement frig to test it. Hate to waste all those ingredients but it sure wouldn't whip into peaks & I dumped it in anyway.  :-[

Got to take care of cats & eat my breakfast & do what didn't get done yesterday, mainly trim my hair & wash it. I look like a shaggy dog & would probably look better if I just let it grow & combed down over my face.  ::)

I just noticed, wind not blowing the snow off the tree limbs & they are getting that "painterly look of a typical winter scene".

Good Morning,  We're "sleeted in" again today. Current temperature is 16º and feels like 10º - although the sun is shining.  "Supposed to" get above freezing this afternoon.  We shall see.

I've actually caught up with the Domestic Duties so am reading, dozing and binge-watching a couple of Netflix series with new episodes.

That's it from this corner.

Good morning everyone. Yesterday it was almost 70, well 68 is close to 70-right? If Fran had not left already we both could have gone out. She never sits and just talks or play with her phone and her sense of humor is showing at last.

SHIRLEY  I always had AAA but most times it took an hour to get to me. Most times it was because of winter weather. Some years if you lived around here you would see AAA trucks always on the roads.

CALLIE  I am with you about gloomy mornings and that is all we have had for more than a week but by afternoon the sun is shining bright and that beautiful blue sky.

SHIRLEY  WELLL DOGGIES==JEB CLAMPET.  Beverly Hillbillies. That is still on the ME channel but forget the day.

JANE  any meal with scalloped potatoes has to  be  good .aughter makes them but neither son does. Youmger ikes the ones in the box and to me it is like glue.

AMY  I was trying to open one of plastic containers with mixed cut up fruit in it. Instead of using my thumbnail to get between the top and bottom from now on I think I will use a knife or have someone else  do it. I had Fran before when we were both pretty new. Her youngest son was having problems in school so it was suggested she take him to a school in Providence so ended herjob but now he is doing great and will graduate this year. Don't think I would like Granny's cooking.

Clouds starting to break but starting tonught a mix of snow freezing rain starting for at least 24 hours. Might be another Saturday my son will not be coming here. I know the storm a couple of weeks ago I called him and told him to stay home, the roads here were bad The roads between us are not main foads and are the last ones cleared. He was glad he did after because his 2 daughters helped. His shoulders are botheering him and makes using the snow blower hare and using a shovel is almost impossible. I was surprised when I heard his oungest girl enjoyed using the SB. Will be another heavy snow.

PHYLLIS  last placed I worked a lady in the depatment I was in used to make the NY cheesecake and we all enjoyed. Others in the cafeteria tryed to get in but she told them it for the ones she worked with. Hers was better than some I had in restaurants that were popular for their cheesecake. I dislike all bridges. We have a bridge named for Senator Pell but always called te Newport bridge. My older son and his wife took me for a ride one Sunday and he took usover that bridge. Hw was a stinker that day, He know how I feel abought them and how I feel abought heeights. Then after coming back over the bridge he took us for icecream. After that I asked if that was supposed to have me forgive him for that bridge trip and he just gave me that sassy grin he alws does when he scares  me. He is now 70 and he was about 6 when he started tha sassy grin. I still call him a brat when he does.

LLOYD I turn the YV on when I get up in the morning and something catches hy ears so watch  for a few minutes and back here again

Have a goot rest of the day. Stay Healthy and safe.

I have several good friends who are truckers both short and long haul.

I always thought they made good money until a couple sat me down and explained the facts of life as independent contractors.

Now that she's retired from teaching, a married couple are basically nomads going from job to job. That to me would be nice if you got along well.

My keyboard is skipping all over the place so I'm going to say "Good night" and close down.  I wish you all a peaceful night's sleep and a happy tomorrow.  And may God bless us, every one!

Good morning..

Well the "bad" weather is here and later on the dance will begin. I wouldn't be offended if the snow stopped right now!

Finally made the strawberry pie, chases that around and finally got it done....thank you Callie :)
Put pie shells in the freezer for later and made cinnamon rolls. Put some in the hidey hole.

Sleet and freezing rain here...it started around midnight and is still coming down.  The trucks have been out plowing and salting and I'm hoping the roads are Ok by the time Frankie has to leave for work around 11:15.  She has a car to clean off before she can leave.

I'm showered and dressed and ready for the day.  I cooked some taters and eggs for breakfast.  I ate mine and Frankie's are waiting for her to get up and attem.

I'm going to bundle up and take Cooper for a walk pretty soon.  He slept with me, got up when I did, had his breakfast and headed for Frankie's bedroom door.  He is in there now but if I show him the leash he'll be out in a flash.

AMY, enjpy your "dancing" and keep the snow on your side of the border.

LLOYD, have a good day!

I wish you all a good day...better than yesterday but not as good as tomorrow!

Snow, sleet, freezing rain, --- it's all here this morning. I think I'll wait a bit for the temp. to go up.  I have a short ramp off my front porch ( 8 or9 inches high ) that I will clean off ASAP. I don't want anyone trying to use it with ice or snow on it.  People don't think.
Coffee and breakfast done so I guess it's fun time.

Good morning everyone, 28°=WOW my degree sign is back. I don't know if Google updated or what but took me a long time to get online and away from the in-box this morning. I got 2 emails from my grandson yesterday, one a video he did in New Hampshire snow tubing. Could not open it, have not been able to open any of them in a few months, Hmm maybe since I got this Dell. I know he did not have time to get every thing set up the day he installed it. Before I could reply to him I got another email with pictures. David looked like his nose and chin were getting frost bit and his red beard had some white. His wife and my little great grand had the reddest cheeks. They went to the ice castle but couldn't get tickets for the night-all sold out and they weren't impressed being in it in the daylight. Not more than 3 or 4 inches of light snow here, not really enough to have fun in. Tubes would be OK but for sure  Shirley would love being there. Not windy so no snow being blown around.
Not up to replying today so think I will head to the couch and see if some off Jane's ZZZZZZZZZzzzzzzzz are hanging around in there. All I want to do on dreary days like this is sleep.

Have a good day and be happy, healthy and safe.

It's just above freezing now and the blacktop surfaces are clear of snow and ice. But all the trees and bushes, and even the grass, have a coating of ice.  It looks nice but it's probably not good for them. Small twigs breaking off. I'm sure the crocus who were sticking their noses up yesterday are not happy.  Anyway - my walk and ramp are clear so the mailman and Amazon can deliver. Cut the liability.

I was a bit startled, sitting on my couch in my pajamas to hear a commotion and see two guys in hardhats step off a conveyance and onto my balcony. Especially as we had received no notice!?!

They were placing a mulberry-colored piece of wood over the outward front of my balcony. Of course, Farrah took a swan dive from her by the window cat tree and slid up behind me on the couch. You know who she expected to go first!

Next comes a knock at my door, a neighbor announcing that $20.00 haircuts will be available Sunday in the main hall. After I signed up, I asked about the hardhats on my balcony. It turns out they have a new contract in June, so finishing the outer balcony covers and attaching all the screen doors to all five floors is suddenly a priority. With its mix of offices, libraries, and apartments, the first floor will be daunting. If they'd done a better pre-plan, accounting for supplies and mistakes such as wrong window measurements, they might have been finished last summer!

Edit; we've been in the thirties all week. Today is plus 32.

Hello Everyfriend!  The last two times I posted, the keys went perfectly.  To whoever fixed that...THANK YOU!!

I got a lot done today but as usual, nothing shows.... except the recycling sitting in the hall waiting for my son to pick it up tomorrow morning!  Then my daughter is picking me up to make a stop at the library and then hit the Amish store.

I think Frankie is getting used to her job.  She said she was pretty much on her own today and everything went well.  She seems to like what she's doing and the people with whom she works.  She said all the elevators don't go to all the floors and she has to remember which ones do!

PATRICIA, that must have been jarring not only to Farrah but to you too when workers appeared on your balcony!  I'd have jumped right out of my skin and that's hard tog get back in!

I'm off to the haystack and I'm sure it's loaded down with zzzzs and I'm READY!  I wish you all a peaceful night's sleep and a happy tomorrow.  And may God bless us, every one!

Jane, I did jump. I was in the midst of a story about an older woman's trials and tribulations when I heard a noise, a thump, and Farrah burrowing into my back. Anyway, they're finishing the fifth floor tomorrow and won't return until the screen balcony doors are in.

Here's another true tidbit.  Hey, it was our idea first!

Bank tellers in the Paraguayan town of Abai watched in amazement as two absentminded gangs of thieves, one noticing the other going through the door only seconds before, robbed the same bank at the same time.

In an otherwise admirable show of honor among thieves, they shared the small amount of cash in the safe equally between them.

But according to a police spokesman, "Apparently, they gave each other dirty looks as they scampered out the door."

The temperature at 8:42 PM is presently plus 33.

Jane, I believe I have everyone beat. I'm sitting here on the couch with my second mug of coffee, and I'm still in my pajamas. I looked over YouTube, and nothing, not even my subscriptions, is tempting me today. I've done my email folder, finished with my daily round of calls and texts, finished feeding Farrah and cleaning her litter box.

It's in the plus thirties out, but I don't want to go out. So, I've spent the last 3.5 hours watching Tiny House videos and wishing I had one of those with an independent source of funds!

A good Saturday afternoon hello to EVERYFRIEND🦋. I have not been able to get in here for quite sometime.... Lost the log in page....seems gremlins are against me🤪🤪

We just finished a week of very cold temperatures.  Not much white stuff to count on,but a bit here and there every day.  Glad it has moved on and we have warmer temperatures to look forward to this week 😻

Dermatologist called....there was not a deep enough sample for pathology to get a good reading on, so now
I have to go back and get another one done😩😩

Surgeon agreed with myPT in that a nerve test is in order to find out what we are dealing with.  I will not bore you with the problems
I have had getting this EMG test appointment made.  A two month wait to SEE the doctor that would do it then another month until the procedure done.  I just felt this was not the best nor my only choice to accomplish this, so I kept calling the surgeons office with my concerns and yesterday they finally did get involved and now my doctor just ordered the test and I will have it done in a month with nor prior jetting with the doctor that will do the test‼️‼️  So discouraging....I will be getting done on the one year anniversary of the day I fell in Tulsa.....What a LONG year it has been🌚

I wish you all a good rest of your day.  I miss reading the posts, so I just have to be diligent in making my way back in here🤪🤪

Patricia, here I am... :hello: Thank you for missing me.
Must admit I am more than happy to sit still.....well until the dogs want out or a dryer dings!

Phone call woke ME...friends were coming down and did I want to meet to exchange goodies.I had chicken for their dogs and she had FABRIC for me. A HUGE tote full of fabric she didn't want. Warned me ahead of time not to lift it but to take a bit of it at a time in the house. I understand why now, he put it in the vehicle and no way would I be able to lift that tote....or tote that barge either :)) I knew it would be like Christmas if I got into the fabric so work first. :( The neighbour had plowed our yard but it did need tiding up in places and I needed to do out by the mail box for our mail lady...hmm sounds like an oxymoron. Snowblowed the front then did the back yard for the dogs and out to the wood piles. Ice underneath this snow and goodness did I slip and slide...too bad it wasn't set to music or I would have had a dance video.
The snow cleaning  done both the garage/shop and house needed wood brought in, so 3 loads later that job was done.  Next was laundry while the "energy" was with me or should I say the force was with me? Almost done just one load left in the washer and bed is remade and yes I did bring in the fabric. I phoned my friend and said it was just like Christmas folding and enjoying this new eye candy to me. Ask any quilter and she will tell you the same thing.

Phyllis, your posts are not dull. I really enjoy coming here in the morning and seeing all the posts...even if it is just a   No one has a dull post.

Better stop before I write a book..

Enjoy your day and stay safe.

Good Morning Everyfriend!  I don't think of us as boring, either.  I look forward to "seeing" each and every one of you every day and I miss you when you don't show up!  And I didn't show up to say "good night" last night.  I was so tired that I kept falling asleep while I tried to read a couple of chapters of SIDNEY POITIER'S book and then some TV so I got up, turned off all the lights and hit the haystack.  I discovered as I crawled it, it was about 9:15!  And I slept until 5:45 this morning.  I'd say I needed the sleep!

And if anyone is interested, SIDNEY POITIER'S book is very interesting.  He was a very special person and reading how he became that person is most interesting.  I usually haunt the large print section at the library but I was so eager to read his book that I took on a regular print book and it wasn't easy but it was worth every minute!  I highly recommend it to anyone who might be looking for something to read!

I heading for church (for real) this morning.  I've been going on line for a while and I really miss just being there.  So Cathy is dropping me off this morning and friends will bring me home!

AMY, I bet you're in 7th Heaven with all that material!  I gave a lot of mine to Christy a while back and I noticed that at least one of the pieces showed up in a quilt she made for her Son, Daniel and Edith, his lovely bride-to-be!  She's following in your footsteps.  This is her second quilt and it was quite a project.  I think it's called the Wedding Ring Pattern.  I'm not 100 percent sure of that but I bet I can get a picture to share with you if you're interested?

Also, forgot to tell you, your picture is on the wall above my computer and since your hand is up and waving, I say a "Good Morning" to you every day as I sit down at the computer.  And you're in good company.  Allison's family (including my two GGrands) is sharing your space as is my granddaughter, Courtney, Mickie and Annie and June and two paintings done by Emma at age 2.

Also want to say, that I am NEVER bored by what is posted here!  I think this is one of the most important parts of my life!  I'm forever thankful for the day I discovered this place!

I better get my breakfast and my shower and get myself ready to meet the day.  I wish you all a good day...better than yesterday but not as good as tomorrow!

Good morning...

It is snowing out, not a sight I wanted to see this morning. A day of rest today and that is exactly what I am going to do!

Jane, I know what you mean by tired last night, I was tired but saw every hour on the hour up until 4 am.......not impressed with that! Your photo is also beside me. :smitten:

Patricia, if you sent this snow I wouldn't mind you taking it back. Not enough to worry about for the moment but I bat come this afternoon there will be.

Jenny, hope you soon get back to normal with your health.

Patricia, I just scrolled back and read about your jumping when the two hard hated men showed up!! Bet that made you scurry. You should have had notice about the work going on.

Better scoot.

Enjoy your day and stay safe.

Good morning from a non-snowy Interior, altho a minuscule amount is expected for Monday afternoon. The city crews spent last weekend grading streets down to the pavement and moving dump truck loads of snow to designated sites in preparation for the three spring dog races this month and the first week of March.

Other than my haircut this afternoon (The first one in two years, not citing Alan's last year), that wasn't self-inflicted. The manager's daughter is licensed, and she used to come bi-monthly in the days before Covid. She charges $20.00 per cut, which is low for this city. There is always a long line, probably more so today, so I signed up quickly when I heard.

I spent yesterday going through my kitchen, collecting all the boxes and bags of food I can no longer eat due to allergies. I was surprised at how much I had squirreled away. It's now downstairs on the donation tables, and I saw the men gathering even as I left. While women here shop, I believe some men live off the donation tables!

Amy, since everyone, (except one daily staffed maintenance man and one security 24/7), works remotely, they no longer seem to send out notices.

And so goes my life. We had 222 new cases of Omicron for the week ending February twenty-fifth, and we are still at the highest levels in the state, so everything is still shut down and locked out. March first is our twenty-fourth month's lockdown anniversary.  :'(  One of my friends was recently diagnosed and missed her three-year-old's great gran's birthday.

I will be going sometime this coming week for hunting and gathering. I swear, it's becoming my social activity of the month during this pandemic.

It's a really dreary day out of my window.  Mother Nature teases us with a nice warm, sunny day and then turns around and gives us a dismal day.  It's hard to keep up with her.  At least, she hasn't given us snow!

Amy, you make me exhausted when I read all of the things that you do.  I think you couldn't sleep because you were over-tired with all that work.  Take it easy today.  Sunday is supposed to be a day of rest.

Jane, I doubt your day is duller than mine.  At least you have Cooper and Frankie to see every....or, nearly every day.  Sydney Poitier was always an actor that I admired.  I can still hear him say, "Call me Mr. Tibbs."  The book sounds good.

Patricia, thanks for the giggle this morning.  I love Peanuts and really miss that cartoon. That one and POGO by Walt Kelly, which has been gone for a long time, are my favorites.  Some of the jokes from POGO have become part of our family.  Quotes like:  "For ink it ain't bad."; "Mankind is OK, it's the people I can't stand." and so many more.  I loved the three bats that were named Bewitched, Bothered, and Be-Mildred.  Does anyone else here remember that?

I am reading the latest book in the OUTLANDER series by Diana Gabaldon.  "Go Tell the Bees I Am Gone" is the title.  I loved the series when the first book came out years ago but by now I find I am really getting tired of all the things that has happened to these people.  Besides, it is located in N. Carolina and she gets some of the geographical detail all wrong.  That always irritates me when an author doesn't appear to know the area she/he is writing about and doesn't seem to bother to do accurate research.  But, I have vowed to finish the darned thing!  >:(

Brunch time and I must put the Blueberry English Muffins under the broiler.  We have several different flavors of a fancy jam that I bought on the Internet so I hope it will taste good.  Also, I have some fresh fruit to cut up to go along.  If anyone here can get down to N.Carolina within the next half-hour I'll set a place at the table.

Take care, All.

Phyllis, I loved Pogo and Albert the alligator! I go online to Go Comics and read my favorites each morning,  I recently started reading Dick Tracy; talk about a time warp!

I read and loved the first books on Outlander and never read any others. I also hate the liberties taken when an author uses Alaska as a backdrop to their stories. It's often evident that they haven't a clue. One adventure story had a climactic scene of a moose herd stampede. This is odd as moose are solitary creatures and never gather in groups other than mom and calves, and even that is limited.

Super Sunday to all........... pretty nippy out but sun shining & starting to warm up for the week. I am really surprised at all the birds flirting (yes, not flitting) around, looking for stuff to build nests.

I'm thinking about what each of you have said this morning & last night, not ready to talk about it, tho. Been to church & breakfast with the group at McDonald's & need some more sleep. That 4 hours & 45 min just not enough to keep me going. Hope all will have a really good day, happy, HAPPY.

I don't even know who B.O. Plenty is ! I'm only six days in.

I know Sam, his partner, and I know they're after an old Criminal named Yeti and that his associates are turning up dead. Now Tracy is after his living associates.

We didn't have a TV growing up and never spent time listening to the radio. We were too busy cleaning, gardening, or other chores our parents assigned us. That is if we weren't traveling the interior's rivers.

We did have one page of black and white comics in the daily paper, but Tracy wasn't among them. Of course, I had heard of him but never actually saw a strip until very recently.

patricia19,
I thought you were reading older Dick Tracy stories.  Just realized they are new ones, so you likely won't run into B.O. or Diet Smith.
If you put - Diet Smith - into a search engine you will get more out of it than if I try to tell about him.

Re-reading & y'all brought to mind my brother-in-law's brother & wife..... the family name is Dick so they named their baby girl "Tracy". Back in the day a teacher called roll with last name first. That poor little girl spent her early years called Dick... Tracy. Have not thought about that for many years, wonder what happened to her.

Day is done, gone the sun. Supposed to warm up this week so I plan to wash a car & shape up the yard before taking on the house again. It is a dark night, no moon light or stars & less than normal lights across the river for some reason. Think I'll get my pjs on & if the eye lids get any heavier, will just crawl into bed. 5:00am was a long time ago & I barely dozed this morning/afternoon, whatever time it was.

Rick, the Apple watch really is science fiction gone wild. My daughter has the latest & so does a friend & both of them put those watches thru their paces. My friend has hers set to notify her son if she falls or whatever, as well as can do anything a computer can. I'm not that techie so don't even want one, Fitbit Versa 3 does all I need to know!

Patricia, the donation table sounds like such a good idea. I have trouble keeping track of stuff I buy, if not right in front of me I sometimes have food go out of date. I make myself get it ready to eat (right now I discovered 2 of the cup size tubs of mac & cheese I missed when cleaning out the motorhome)... out of date so I will open each & add the water & nuke to feed the critters down by the river. Oh, I enjoyed the photos.

What I am really upset about is the shelf in my kitchen that is full of cake mixes, brownie mixes, flour & self rising flour.. had 2 boxes (1 from the motorhome) of pancake mix that had weevils in so threw them away & will open & throw away a whole lot of other stuff. I used to use that "No Bugs M'Lady" shelf paper but that's been declared bad & I don't know of any other product to use to keep bugs out. Being the "sunflower state", we have always had a problem with bugs/moths.... but I don't know what is safe these days. The termite people do not spray inside the house anymore.... Got to face it. :'(

Wishing all sweet dreams, God Bless.... Shirley

Day IS done!  SHIRLEY, before I forget, baking soda keeps out the ants and I understand it's good for keeping out other bugs.  You could cut off a couple of paper cups very low, put some baking soda in them and spread them around the cupboard.  However, I have to be honest with you.  I'd just take a spoon and sprinkle some of it around the things that seem to draw the bugs.  It doesn't really make a mess and you could just clean it up once a week and replace it!

Now I'm off to the haystack!  My eyes have almost entered slam shut mode and I have to be up early.  Frankie's schedule for this week is 7-4 so she'll be dropping Cooper off around 6:30.

We're supposed to have a couple hours of snow tonight beginning around midnight.  That won't do too much to the roads.

I wish you all a peaceful night's sleep and a happy tomorrow.  And may God bless us, every one!

Shirley, setting out a bay leaf or portions will drive away bugs. But if you want a permanent solution, use food-grade diatomaceous earth. People actually ingest, it's sometimes prescribed for cats and dogs, and it is an easy, no dangerous chemical way to destroy most bugs. Sold in most stores and online such as Amazon.

Natural Product - Composed of 4lbs of 100% ground freshwater diatomaceous earth with absolutely no additives or fillers.
OMRI Listed - Listed with the Organic Minerals Research Institute, a non-profit organization that reviews products against organic standards.
Powder Duster Included - Powder duster in the bag for easy and efficient application of diatomaceous earth on animal feed
Supports a Great Cause - Harris donates 10% of profits to support the local Etowah Valley Humane Society.
Made in the USA – Mined in Nevada and packaged in Georgia

will this work for bed bugs?
Answer:Yep! Since my teenage son's friends brought us bedbugs during a weekend sleepover (apparantly, they crawled out of their backpacks and suitcases), it has been a LIVING NIGHTMARE, trying to live with them while trying to kill them. Good Morning! SHIRLEY, did you get all that?  I made a note of what PATRICIA said but right now, I think I'll stick with baking soda.  If the ants are as bad in the Spring and Summer, I might try her stuff!

Frankie had been and gone and Cooper had his breakfast and is telling me it's time for a walk.  I think I'll get that over with.  We had a bit of snow during the night and the roads are wet but it didn't really lay anywhere except on the old snow.  For now it's not dirty any more but I don't think that will last long.

Today is wash day!  I'm not doing the bed today...just clothes.  I did the towels on Thursday...or was it Friday?

Frankie said she's going to spend the night tonight so it'll be a busy day!  AMY my food plan for today includes Chicken for supper.  I'm doing the crockpot Cranberry chicken for supper.  But what's that soup you're doing for lunch?  It's sounds very interesting!

OK, I'm off to walk Cooper!  I wish you all a good day...better than yesterday but not as good as tomorrow!

I use white vinegar when the ants show up.  However, I thought the weevils that show up in flour/cornmeal/etc. actually came from the eggs that are already in the flour when you buy it.  I buy the smallest bag of flour/grain and store them in the fridge or freezer.  Here is a link about that problem:

Thank you, girls, for the suggestions. I've been lucky to never have an ant in this house BUT the problem is I guess I brought weevils in from stores, in boxes. You gave me the idea to see what "duck-duck" suggested, almost made me sick for the site to say it was okay to eat certain kinds of bugs. But they had reasonable ideas. Not sure the bay leaves we buy are fresh enough but garlic, & making a spray of .... oh, pooh, here's the link! Thanks to all, now to get everything on that shelf & whole cabinet cleaned out, scrub the cabinets & be the end of this story! We have ants outside, Cas used everything in the book, including vinegar, gasoline, ant killer, etc. They don't come inside so I leave them alone. I made the mistake not long ago to stock up on brownie mixes.... I often take a whole batch to the doctor's office (for their snack room), or the mechanics that work on my motorhome. Those guys aren't bashful, just ask when I call if I'm going to bring them. I don't get cheaper service but they always work me in! Anyway, I will take them to the freezer & will inspect before using. This site it sounds like the weevils are in the boxes & not the moths we had to watch for living next to a field of wild sunflowers! Lost some nice wool clothes before I took those critters serious!  ONWARD!

was okay to eat certain kinds of bugs.

Shirley, years ago we caught a beautiful bass and as I was cleaning it I noticed little yellow spot in the flesh. My neighbour worked for the MNR as a pilot and when I phoned to inquire about these spots, he said they were worms and we could eat it if there was only some many to the inch :yikes: . Told him I used worms to catch the fish and I wasn't about to eat them. Cats had a good feast!

I know I'm having Amy's soup tonight!

I remembered several years ago; someone had brought in bedbugs that were hurrying through the floors here. I never, to my knowledge, had them in my apartment, but they were on each floor. The entire building had to bag and remove items to the balcony, beds, couches, and other furniture moved away from the walls.

I gathered every bit of clothing I owned, went to a laundromat with those huge washers and dryers, and washed everything twice in as hot a water as possible. The exterminators came three separate times to spray with a week in between. They had to do the three sprays to eradicate them. I spent the time of each spray with Farrah in her carrier, sitting in another tenant's car. We were all grossed out, and I know I developed hives and had trouble sleeping in my bed.

About bugs, I remember once mom found bugs in a sack of sugar and promptly threw it out. After that, she inspected all the dried foods before throwing them out. We cleaned the entire kitchen and downstairs thoroughly and used vinegar balls in cupboards for a couple of months, and food sat in the freezer for a time before it was used. I vividly remember how horrified she was to find bugs in HER kitchen.

We had Cranberry chicken over rice done in the crockpot tonight for supper and it was deeeelicious!  Frankie had seconds but I was good with just one helping.

AMY, the soup sounds good and I was thinking of using some of my canned potatoes in it.  I'll have to check if I have bacon tomorrow.  If I don't, it will be on my list this week!

I wish you all a peaceful night's sleep and a happy tomorrow.  And may God bless us, every one!

I'm off to sleep, at least I hope it's not another night of dreaming I'm awake all night only to discover Fitbit said I really did get some zzzzzzzzzzzzs. Felt like I was struggling to breathe, know I didn't get a new furnace filter put in but have not been able to find until today... and this one doesn't say for my brand furnace but the ACE people all thought it should work.  ??? Right size but doesn't say for my brand furnace. This furnace takes 2 different types, one is 20x25x5, but when you read the numbers it actually takes a quarter inch smaller & says so on the filter!  The other filter is the skinny 1" size x??? Had it changed so now will see if this new fat one fits & will have to wait for son to put it in, think it is more than I can do.

I bought a bag of wild caught cod fish, each "shrink wrapped" separately so nice to pull one out of the bag (frozen), no coating so I salt & pepper & fry with butter in a little egg skillet with lid... pretty tasty, doesn't take long.

We have the whole week of 60s & 70s with nights above 40, then next week end back to winter & possibly winter mix. Stuff is sprouting & going to probably do damage to fruit trees & most other early stuff. Callie cat enjoyed the day outside & little Rhodie came to visit a couple times. Wish there was a way to show you a video of her racing across the back yard to visit. Had to laugh, she had a squirrel with her this morning, right together... and then Callie cat comes stand right beside her, no problem. Squirrel took off when I went out.

Sweet dreams & God Bless, can you believe that Lent starts this Wed?
